ROs' names in ogham
Ogham is the first writing system in Ireland, first used in to write Primitive Irish. It is usually seen carved into ancient standing stones found around the country.
So anyway I thought it would be appropriate to write the Na Daoine Maithe characters' names in it. Ogham is read from bottom to top, and due to Tumblr tomfoolery, you may have to click the image to see the name in full.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not everything transliterates literally however. There are no fadas in ogham, so Aífe and Flannán lost fada privileges. Keagan is technically written as "Ceagan" due to the lack of the letter "k". There also is no letter "v" in Irish so I wrote Meave's name in my personal favourite way, "Meabhdh".
Bonus! Tadhg (my MC)

Because you bully him so often, please say some nice things about the Master of Secrets. 🤭
OH, THIS IS EASY ACTUALLY
I BULLY HIM BECAUSE I LIKE HIM!
This isn't grade school sort of "haha I'm pulling your hair because I have a crush on you", this is very much "I want to understand you from every angle and faucet, you are fascinating to me, what is your DEAL"
Like okay. Flannán? To me, he is very much a very comfortable coat, I've had this coat for years, and it keeps me warm no matter what, I can always rely on this coat, Flannán mac Lugh is a character archetype I know and love dearly. I may not know every detail about him, but I know enough that is comfortable and it brings me back to him constantly. I know him in a way that feels intimate, even without all the details in place.
Keagan? I know this guy too. He's Jumin Han spliced with David Xanatos (which, yes, this specific association, with Xanatos, is one of the highest compliments I can give Keagan, dear anon, because it's David Motherfucking Xanatos) by way of Mister Miracle (2017) (warning: suicide discussion, gore, blood, unreality) in that Keagan has a lot of potentials, as a narrative arc, to go into a lot of fascinating and phenomenal questions. And, in spite of all of this familiarity, in seeing his face in different people, in seeing different I know completely people in him...I don't actually fully know him in a way that feels...complete.
Hence why I constantly propose putting him in numerous different scenarios that are tortuous for him, but also why I pair him with an MC who is, potentially, exactly what he needs: I want to unlock the puzzle box. Because I do like him.

I know you don't do HCs but I like your theories so I wondered if you had any ideas what their weddings might be like 👀
anon i am so sorry because I kept forgetting about this in the drafts
planning fictional weddings may be one of my favorite things to do ever. Everyone else under the cut. This is arranged by who I had ideas for first. Lengths and details may vary.
Shae
You and Shae avoid getting married the whole time somehow, despite doing married people things your entire relationship. And then it's tax time and you realize it would be way more convenient to do these if you were married. Now you're married.
OK, tax joke aside, one night after a long time of marriage-esque domesticity, you just wake up bolt upright and ask, "Should we get married?"
Shae's still a little sleepy so they just grumpily tell you to ask again in the morning. They wrestle you back into a cuddle position. You are soft putty and cannot win.
Before you can wake up and ask again, Shae is up first and beats you to it. You should have proposed first!
You send out invitations—not a lot, just the people who matter. Shae's family, the friends you've made, small group only. You specifically tell everyone that it's because you're getting married in a few days, but everyone still brings food to the outpost like it's some kind of potluck.
The ceremony takes place three days later in the garden. Under the trellis, where some berry plants are tied to prevent them from falling over. It smells like it's about to rain, and you have to act fast.
It starts as a light drizzle that becomes a whole shower just in time for the final kiss. Everybody rushes inside before the rain gets any worse, but all in all, it was a great day.
Maeve
You and Maeve do get engaged and all, but in the spirit of her U-Haul Lesbian vibes (...U-Haul Bisexual?), one weekend in the heat of wedding planning, you spirit away and just elope.
It's a private affair with just you and the crows (ravens?) as your only guests. You come back to the capital two days later and dive back into the wedding planning whirlwind.
You still go through with the public wedding, but now it's more fun for you both. A lil wink to each other as you repeat your wedding vows. No one else gets the joke.
No one will ever know the wedding was just for show, except maybe three people (Flannán included?) and this knowledge will stay secret until at least your 10th wedding anniversary.
Robin
Robin canonically cannot got to a church, so you have a destination wedding instead.
First stop, the trash heap. You have to pick out your wedding rings. There's a lot to choose from.
Next stop, wherever the hell you want. It doesn't matter, they can take you there.
If you can't decide immediately, Robin will cycle between a few places, including but not limited to: Shae's outpost, the forests of Murias, literally right at the Seelie-Unseelie border, the throne room at the People's Castle, and the hoard he calls home.
What follows next may be romantically stupid or stupidly romantic, depending on which end you are so inclined. You exchange vows at the location of your choice.
Part of me wants to say Robin splits their wedding vows into sentences and each one is said in a different location, but I don't know how great teleportation is for either party.
Robin is as Robin does, the last line they say is "We're married now, buck-o."
Seems legit enough. Now let's go pick the honeymoon location.
Flannán
Married and engaged in the same day.
You wake up one morning to see Flannán trying to fit a ring over your finger, and he tries to make you go back to sleep and pretend like nothing happened, but eventually relents and proposes.
As soon as you step out of the bedroom, you find people rushing around the castle covering every inch of it with winter blossoms. Flannán looks as surprised as you.
He flags someone down to say that the proposal is off. He's bright red as he explains that he already proposed to you on accident.
Turns out this isn't for the proposal.
Apparently, no one trusts you or Flannán to plan your own wedding in a timely or easy manner. You are now getting married.
Talk about overwhelming. You just got engaged less than an hour ago. To be fair, it doesn't matter how you got married. Just that you finally do.
Also Flannán's dogs are chewing on the decorations the whole time. If this were a wedding with a photographer, they would feature in every single shot.
Not because the photographer was too focused on the dogs (valid but not the case). It's because they want to be included in everything.
Aífe
OBVIOUSLY a massive ceremony. All of the Seelie court is invited. I'm torn between having it in the palace gardens or the throne room. Both seem like great ideas.
Aífe's wedding will be loaded with outfit changes like nobody's business. She has at least ten gowns for herself, and then ten outfits for you so you match with her every single time.
The ceremony would be simple if not for the break taken for every outfit change. Aífe made all these dresses, she MUST get to use them.
Outfit changes extend to the reception, too.
Aífe sings you a lovely ballad and you just have to stand there and take it and how in love you are with her. And you need to let her finish the song or else she'll be very cross with you, and that's no way to start your marriage.
Unless, of course... you would like to sing with her? She does love it when you duet.
The wedding reception is truly equal parts reception and equal parts recital. People (mainly Aífe) showing off their talents and having fun, celebrating.
Keagan
Full disclosure, it is impossible for me to think of Keagan wedding HCs without thinking of my Arranged Marriage AU at the same time. And that's a very different wedding than what I imagine Keagan would normally have. Probably still similar enough though.
Sorry for talking about the Arranged Marriage AU (not sorry actually :P)
Anyway, garden wedding for sure. Aífe wouldn't say no to lending the royal gardens for her dearest friends' wedding.
It may also be next to one of those super cool waterfalls in the royal gardens but I have my personal reasons for wanting that.
It's a bad idea though because waterfalls are Loud, so maybe we'll keep it to that nice gazebo by the water.
There have been spring showers every day leading up to the wedding so the two of you are rightly worried about wedding plans, but when the day comes, it's nice and sunny.
It's actually too nice and sunny.
If you turn around at any point during the ceremony, you'll see people holding up things over their faces so that the glare from the sun isn't bothering them.
There's a tiny part of you that's actually upset that it didn't rain because you two planned this whole affair around the idea that it would be raining, and now it's not.
The wedding goes off without a hitch. Not a single dry eye when Keagan is done with his vows, made worse when it's your turn.
The reception is not much different from Aífe's (though significantly less of a talent show).
I imagine it's a bit more of a game. You and Keagan can be playful that way.
From the audience, all that can be seen is Keagan turning to you and whispering something in your ear that makes you smile.
From where you're sitting, he is trying to get you to break so you two can leave the reception early.
He is trying very well.
You both leave the reception early.

Flannán: We need to distract these guys.
Robin: Leave it to me.
Robin: Centaurs have six limbs and are therefore insects. Discuss.
Aífe, Keagan, and Shae: *Immediately begin arguing*
Maeve, watching in horror: Oh, this. I don’t like this. I don't like this at all.

Please tell us about Mishae. What kinds of things do they do together? Does Mine meet their family fast or want to wait (aside from whatever the game does of course)? *chin hands* Go off on whatever.
Hello anon sorry for taking forever to answer this! Also fair warning, you have opened the Floodgates so let’s gooooo
What kinds of things do they do together?
Interestingly, it can be said that Mishae do nothing & everything together
Both their interests hardly overlap if ever, but neither will ever pass up the chance to take part in their partner’s interests. If they both happen to be free & one of them wants to do smth, the other will def tag along
Mine will happily help out Shae in their garden or the kitchen, while Shae will happily (tho much more cautiously) assist with Mine’s magical experiments or newest matchmaking scheme
The closest to an actual bonding activity would be taking little walks together, or just cuddling somewhere in the house
Mine + Shae's daily routines tend to vary wildly, due to their differing responsibilities and interests. Long story short, the two of them actually spend lots of time apart
It's not a bad thing though. In Mine’s words, ‘the best part of a goodbye is being able to say hello again’. Plus when the two of them reunite, they have plenty to catch up on and conversations go on long, long into the night (day?)
Also, I think one of my favorite things about the both of them is how much they bicker. It's cute, it's fun, but above all, it speaks to an underlying trust between the two of them
Shae can be as brutally honest as they like, without worrying if their lack of delicacy will affect the relationship. They’re allowed the space to be unabashedly themself, with the security that Mine will never assume the worst of them and will always put in effort to understand them, even when they feel like none of the words are coming out right
Mine is used to being the ‘mood maker’ and tends to be the one to balance out everyone else (doesn’t help she feels emotionally responsible for almost everybody most of the time). Bickering gives Mine the space she needs to be disagreeable, aggressive & maybe a little petty even. A break from the cheerful, pleasant, ever-reliable problem solver who is always at everyone’s service
Unless one of them has crossed a line, neither Shae nor Mine tend to take these arguments to heart. It also helps them both work through their respective natural aggression too
Does Mine meet their family fast or want to wait (aside from whatever the game does of course)?
Honestly, Mine could go either way, they’re cool with whichever way things end up working out
HOWEVER, both scenarios will likely have Mine panicking one way or another. She’s actually a very family-oriented person like Shae and takes things like meeting families & showing elders respect VERY seriously, as per her own culture’s traditions.
Meet Fast = Mine: "Oh shit i did not think this through and i have Not prepared the adequate buah tangan (gifts) to greet Shae’s family properly, what else have i forgotten, oh shit oh shit oh" //cue Panic
Waiting = Mine: //has prepared everything to near perfection, but will hyperventilate and pace around up until the actual meeting bc she’s busy playing every potential worst scenario out in her head
In the end, things will work out, even with classic Mine hijinks. They’re an excellent mood maker and when they’re not overthinking everything, they’re very funny & charming & can put people at ease pretty quick
Mine will likely endear themself to Shae’s family soon enough, and likewise, Shae will be the same for Mine’s own large family. Mine will work hard to ensure that Shae feels like they have a place in her family, tho it’s not too hard since Mine’s family are all supportive and everyone more or less listens to Mine as the eldest child

Analysis of Clues to What Likely Caused Flan's Exile
Hi all! This post is in response to a question from the NDM Discord server that I got very carried away with answering. Instead of posting yet another lengthy wall of text on there (which I often can't help from doing, haha), I decided this was worth making into a post and trying out in the tumblr format! Especially since I'd been considering making a casual blog on here anyway. Without further ado:
Just like my dear friend Laura, I've always thought that Keagan was the reason for Flan's exile, and there are definitely strong clues in certain asks that I'd like to point to in support of that idea, even if they don't directly confirm anything.
Before I really dive into those specific clues, let me first provide my understanding of the timeline, since I might be off on a thing or two but this is how I've interpreted it:
1). For what seems to be most of the 200-year-long war, Flan acted very differently
(confirmed change by Maeve and Robin, the latter giving a timeline to it by saying he was “apparently kind of a jackass during the war”, and this is something I'll get to later, but it's worth noting this was specifically a response to a question about how he used to flirt)
2). Flan and Keagan get involved and subsequently get each other hurt in different ways sometime prior to the end of the War
(not confirmed events of course, but if true, I think the implications are that they were nearing the end and had a lot to do with it, but still prior, due to the state Flan was in:
First, Keagan was said to have “distinguished himself during the War of the Courts as someone with a knack for intrigue and espionage” with whispers of him having been involved with “the end of the War,” which can reasonably be interpreted as him having deceived and betrayed Flan to get the info he needed to help him turn the tides
And second, it was specifically said that “before the conclusion of the War,” Flan technically did cross the border into Finias, but only when “time was of the essence, and he… Well. Let’s just say he wasn’t quite in the right state of mind to take in the surroundings,” which to me speaks not only of his understandable PTSD from the horrors of such a long war but a specific state that resulted from a recent event, such as a fresh betrayal, as well as whatever wolf-form-related damage was implied to be done to Keagan in return potentially also weighing on him)
3). Then after the conclusion of the War, Flan is either formally exiled or otherwise forced by circumstance to spend time away from the new Unseelie capital
I tried to keep the above to just establishing the timeline of the events I'd like to discuss, but with that done, I'm ready to get more into the meat of the evidence heavily implying that not only did Flan change as a result of betrayal by a lover during the War, but that he was publicly shamed in some way over the relationship, supporting the idea that it had far more impactful repercussions than a broken heart alone and led to his exile.
The strongest implications are found in three responses to asks about how Flan used to flirt, starting with the one where Maeve acknowledges his change and says, “I’m not happy about how he ended up learning some of the lessons he did, but it’s best to leave the past in the past, in some cases.” I touched on Robin's response earlier, but I'd like to pull a later quote from that same ask where they caution, “This is going to sound a little strange coming from me, but I’d avoid giving the guy a hard time over it, if I were you.” The echo and weight of these two responses, especially considering the latter to be such an uncharacteristically serious one from Robin, imply that these “lessons” Flan learned in regards to his flirting involved pretty severe consequences.
Then there's the glaring fact that Robin isn't even speaking from firsthand experience here (given how she wasn't around during the War), and Flan is not really the kind of person to confide in him about such personal matters willingly (nor would Maeve be the one to spill Flan's secrets if he confided them in her), raising the important question of how Robin came to be so knowledgeable about it in the first place. However, I believe this is answered in a third such ask about Flan's past flirting, where the dev statement to me suggests that not just Robin, but the public as a whole is at least partially aware of the situation.
They might not know the details, but something appears to be known based on the statement that, “Most folks are too intimidated to flirt with the Unseelie King, especially given… Well, never mind. Let’s just say Flannán was not always so austere nor hesitant to trust affection. For better or worse, he’s changed quite a bit since the War.” In addition to further supporting the idea of Flan having been betrayed by a lover during that time (specifically being left unable to “trust” the way he could before), this quote speaks volumes about what's being left unsaid when it intentionally trails off, especially when paired with tags on a different post that again emphasize how Flan is “#man's not as willing to display vulnerability these days #particularly so to the public.”
When you combine all the clues, these are clear indications to me that whatever changed Flan was not only traumatic and romance-related but somehow a relatively well-known affair (i.e. to the point that Robin finds out post-war and treats it seriously, that it apparently makes “most folks” even more hesitant to flirt with him, and that Flan is now painfully mindful of the public's perception of him as a result), implying that at least some degree of public shame over the relationship was involved.
Under the KeaFlan interpretation, there are many different possibilities for how this could have played out (no way to know whether it took place when Keagan's betrayal was first discovered or later near the time of Flan's exile, what person or situation actually outed Flan in the public eye, how much was revealed, how many were actually there to witness it vs how much was spread by word of mouth, etc.). Regardless, the bottom line is that it would make perfect sense as the kind of affair he might be publicly shamed over and face consequences for, due to the betrayal impacting far more than just Flan on a personal level by granting the Seelie a turning point in the War.
This situation thus lines up with the timing and all of the beats of what's been established or implied, as well as naturally providing a case for why Lugaid would go to such an extreme as exile to punish his chosen successor:
From his perspective, not only did Flan's “weakness” give the Seelie the edge in the first place, but he then failed to redeem himself by turning things back in the Unseelie's favor before the War ended. On top of that, Lugaid might see fit to distance himself from Flan due to the latter bringing public disgrace depending on how that played out (though I'm not discounting the possibility of Lugaid himself being the one to shame him in the interest of “teaching him a lesson,” it just seems likely he'd want to handle it privately if possible, to keep from publicly undermining his legacy).
-
Also, for fun as a quick added bonus, I did find what I believe to be another clue relating to Flan's exile, but this one relates to his life post-exile. I don't have any particularly strong leanings on exact location (though I loved reading the ideas people had on Discord!), but after this find, I'm definitely of the belief that Maeve was with him, if not for the entire exile then at least for some amount of time right before his return. As we know, Robin was not around for the war, and it's said that they “'joined' the Unseelie Court prior to Maeve and Flannán returning to the capital.”
“Returning to the capital” is vague enough that it wouldn't have to mean returning together from Flan's exile, such as if the two had been on a short trip away. Even so, I think it's likely, given how this particular return to the capital is being framed as something significant to the timeline.

Hey anon, thanks for asking! As far as clothes go, we have seen people use quite a variety of things! The game starts in 1845 Ireland, and the MC is a tenant farmer if that helps your research! We have also seen quite a few MCs that use the clothing offered in Keagan's chapter as their clothes. Ultimately though, it comes down to your MCs backstory and your preference. We've also seen MCs from all over the world!
You are also more than welcome to tag us in any fan art! We regularly reblog NDM MCs. We do our best to keep an eye on the tags for art, but we might not always catch everything!
