He's Bod's guardian and to me, he's even more like a father to Bod than Bod's adopted parents themselves. I have a serious obsession w him ngl askjdhalsd. The full Empire Magazine article about Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes has dropped new images and world-building lore.

A new character was introduced: an ape named Koro, played by Neil Sandilands

Noa (Owen Teague) sharing the forehead touching gesture symbolizing affection in ape society with a friend

Noa's tribe has built their homes in powerline towers left behind by humanity

Erik Winquist, VFX Supervisor, pointed out that fashions are different between ape tribes. Noa's community wears "woven adornments" while the apes led by Proximus Caesar sport "Romanesque armour made from the scavenged remains of human things"

The idea of trained birds like the one seen with Noa in the poster and teaser trailer came from our own love of pets. Director Wes Ball said "That idea came from, 'Man domesticated dogs, so maybe [apes] domesticated eagles?' It was actually the first image I created for the movie. I could just put that up on the wall and say, 'There it is. There's the feel of our movie.'"

Made this little illustration after rereading The Graveyard Book !!

It was one of my favorite books as a child but I never had the occasion to read it since, and I forgot the whole story.

It was a joy to rediscover this magical tale 💙💜

Fallout/KOTPOTA Parallels

A young protagonist who is from an isolationist (and possibly a cult) community, in a post-apocalyptic world set 200-300 years in the future, who is on a mission to bring the person/people they love back home safely.

They team up with someone living in the outside world, who is also on their own mission for mysterious reasons.

They also team up with another character who is religious, and has a moral code (and has definitely done some questionable things in the past); to teach them the history of the outside world.*

And they also find out the truth about their fathers/elders.

AND the character also has a fondness of other animals.

ANNNND ANOTHER THING! They interact with the main antagonist whose motives might seem like it'll be good for the outside world, but there's a dark revelation.*

Note: I noticed the similar character dynamics in each respective storytelling and writing.

It's the anniversary of my most popular post on how people fail to recognize a vampire (in this case Silas from "The Graveyard Book") unless the story spells it out for them

And to this day I still get notes from people voicing their atonishment that they never noticed this

So I've created a comprehensive list of all vampiric traits and behaviors Silas shares with Dracula (since Dracula Daily has started again too) as well as with Bram Stoker's other vampires.

First I'll always give a quote/s from "Dracula" showing the behavior, and then one from "The Graveyard Book" to go along with it

Not consuming human food or drink

„It is strange that as yet I have not seen the Count eat or drink. He must be a very peculiar man!“

„What‘s it taste like?“ „I‘ve absolutely no idea,“ said Silas, who consumed only one food, and it was not bananas.“

„Silas ordered a glass of water and a small salad for himself, which he pushed around the bowl with his fork but never actually put to his lips.“ (page 272)

Sleeping during the day

„I have not yet seen the Count by daylight. Can it be that he sleeps when others wake, that he may be awake when they sleep?“

„Yesterday I came here before sundown, for at sundown the Un-Dead can move.“

Not having a reflection

Weird earshape, paleness and cold skin

”His ears were pale and at the tops extremely pointed (…) The general effect was one of extraordinary pallor.“

It’s not actually mentioned in-text that Silas has pointed ears, but you can see them on the Chris Riddell illustrations and in the graphic novel

Crawling down walls

„I saw the whole man slowly emerge from the window and begin to crawl down the castle wall over that dreadful abyss, face down, with his cloak spreading around him like great wings."
