would it be alright to use gai and strayt if one is basically nonbinary but prefers to use genderqueer as a label? not sure if that's a generally ok thing to do or if it'd be better to find genderqueer-specific terms or make alternatives using the same definition but with "genderqueer" in place of "nonbinary". Asking because I found that terms through your blog btw
that would be fine for me (but I'm not the coiner). originally, it's defined as "feeling gay/straight in a nonbinary way". in my opinion, anyone can feel they're gay and/or straight "in a nonbinary way", that doesn't specify you're nonbinary. even binary people could feel that way, don't you agree?
many places you can find them being used as "nonbinary version of gay/straight". for example, there's a wiki using strayt as interchangeable synonym of enbyhet. I see there's an overlap between being a straight nonbinary person and being strayt. while some use them in identical ways, nonbinary/binaryn't people can feel their straight attraction in a binary way. or simply being "regular" hetero whose gender is nonbinary.
if a binary het or binary gay said to me they experience their gayness/straightness "in unconventional ways" and feel that strayt/gai resonate with them, I wouldn't worry about it.
but in lack of specific terms, there I would suggest coining something prefixed with neo- (like neopronouns, neoAGAB, neogender, neomale, neofeminine, neocis (neocisgender), etc.). for example, using "neogay", "neogai", "neogae", "neostraight", "neostrayt", "neohetero"/"neohet" would mean being a new type of gay/gai/gae or straight/strayt/het(ero). but that would only be useful if you prefer these instead of simply gai/strayt or gay/str8. quasi- is an alternative
genderqueer is often described as "noncisnormative" gender/identity. so if we use "nonbinary way" as the same thing as "noncisnormative way", that would allow you to be strayt/gai. but that's what I think and could be wrong. I'm just commenting and showing my perspectives/points of view.
also, if you think about "contradictory labels" (lesboy, turigirl, saphboy, mspec lesbian, lesbian trans man, etc), it depends on you if you are open to/accepting of these experiences.

Enmitiec & Enmitiecflux
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Enmitiec (left) || Enmitiecflux (right)
Enmitiec is a stand alone term relating to orientations one decides they are out of opposition and/or spite of someone else. Being told you cannot be a certain orientation makes you identify with it more and more, until you decide to say you are said orientation out of spite, then to realize you generally identify with the term. Example: Being told you cannot be a bi lesbian while only recognizing yourself as bi, identifying as bi lesbian out of spite, then realizing you're a bi lesbian. Identifying out of spite to Realizing you are said thing. Enmitiec can work as its own orientation, and also as a modifier ("I'm enmitiec pansexual").
Enmitiecflux is the flux form of Enmitiec. One may identify as a specific orientation out of spite and realize they simply are said orientation afterwards like Enmitiec, however feeling like the orientation you identify yourself as may fade after realizing you feel genuinely connected to the label, and possibly come to identify with the term again in the future. Example: Being enmitec floric, dropping floric for another label, re-identifying oneself as floric later.
.
These terms was originally coined on my former blog genderslyphen on November 5th, 2021. It was then reblogged I believe to this blog on April 15th, 2022. These two terms were originally on the same post as Enmituren, Enmiturenflux, Enmiteon, and Enmiteonflux.
Enmituren is the umbrella term for Enmiteon and Enmitiec.

The end of an Era
Yesterday morning, on the 27th of March 2024 my dear cat Neo passed away at an age of almost 17 years. He was the last of our Oriental cats and his passing marks the end of an era for me. Our first Oriental Longhair was Jayto, born November 27th 2003 who later got company of Nintu, a black Oriental Shorthair born August 26th 2006. Sadly, Jayto got sick and died at an age of only 3 years old, not long after Nintu came. Nintu needed another Oriental cat friend because our ‘regular’ cat Joey, who had been with us since early 1995, was not interested in Oriental cat style stickiness. And so Neo came;  a black Oriental Longhair born on May 9th 2007. Neo and Nintu have been best buddies for over 13 years. They played together, slept together and went on adventures together- including our family holidays. Their personalities were polar opposites and that made them such a good match.

When Nintu died on May 7th 2020 at an age of almost 14, Neo missed his buddy so much that we adopted Yuka, a red ‘regular’ cat. He gave Neo some proper distraction with his naughtiness - hence his nickname “Geboefte” , which means criminal in Dutch.

Neo was one of the loveliest, social and most easy going cats whom I’ve known. He was timid and careful but also the most talkative and intimate. Cuddles were almost always welcome and most led to roll and belly-rub session. He had the peculiar habit to do ‘stairs sticky’ as we called it: he stood on the first or 2nd floor while you had to stand a few steps lower on the stairs with your face was at his level and cuddle him.
We often gently joked about his funny look and mannerisms. He was exceptionally small (3.5 kg at max) for a tomcat, always had a bony butt, a pronounced sternum bone that stuck out and a lean but well filled ‘sack of organs’ along with a slightly kinked tail tip. Despite his small size, his paws were proportionally huge, which was not a desired trait for the breed - but I didn’t care; I love big paws. He had a very typical quiet, calm and elegant gait with small steps and an elevated head. Quite the opposite of Nintu’s big steps  and -always-in-a-rush- pace. Neo and the other Oriental cats have left us so many precious memories. These will always remain.

Neo was also the last Feline with whom I had an intimate bond. Since I moved out of my parents’ house in 2012. I was not physically living with him anymore but I came back regularly and Neo was always there to be ‘sticky’ again. Until now. The next time I’m going back, he won’t be there anymore.
But his spirit stays

Merab Abramishvili was a Georgian painter whose works were influenced by medieval arts and European neo-expressionism.
His paintings show a unique mixture of oriental miniatures and Georgian frescoes. Despite these "influences", the artist introduced us a clearly different spoken language and style of Georgian painting. The world that the artist conveys to us seems unreal and at the same time it is remarkably earthly.

And just to follow up on that previous reblog without derailing it: a lot of the really weird relationships and discourse that exist out there in the neo-pagan, Satanist, and atheist communities are in fact echoes of the weird relationship that Xtianity has with Judaism.
Xtianity has a weird, tumultuous relationship with Judaism because they must simultaneously validate the Tanakh and the Jews who created it or else their own religion is devoid of context and built on a house of cards. But! If they validate Judaism, then they have to grapple with the fact that the Jews did not accept their interpretation of the Tanakh, that we still, against all odds, exist, and that because we still exist, we are still around to point out the ways in which the New Testament does not fit with the Tanakh and that the Tanakh does not inherently or naturally point to Jesus. And that's to say nothing of the bloody history of Xtianity towards Judaism. Our continued existence is a sore point and a weakness in the Xtian narrative that has been a constant source of irritation, frustration, and violence since the dawn of Xtianity. And, at the same time, there is a certain fascination with Judaism related to things that have been appropriated by Xtians or understood as particularly useful in spreading supercessionist ideas. So what you wind up with is a toxic mix of antisemitism and philosemitism (effectively fetishization and orientalism) that drives too many Xtians to "love" us by attacking our beliefs and way of life, and stealing whatever they think will be most helpful in their mission (especially as it pertains to Jews) in order to try and convert us.**
Many people who have also been hurt from inside of Xtianity or by the broader Xtian culture they live in seek to deconstruct those ideas by creating an inverse of Xtianity in one way or another. Those who turn to Satanism typically do this by worshipping the opposite force of the Xtian god. Those who turn to neo-paganism typically do this by embracing an unambiguously polytheistic religion and/or by turning to the cultural historical enemies of Xtianity. Those who turn to atheism typically do this by rejecting "God," "faith," and "organized religion" (as these concepts are understood by Xtian norms.)
And honestly? That's fine. If it helps, if it brings you meaning and joy, knock yourselves out. I have no problem with people turning to these beliefs for reasons of healing as well as simply being drawn to it. And for what it's worth, I did a similar thing by turning to Judaism. Obviously I had many other reasons for becoming a Jew as well, and I assume that's true for the aforementioned folks, too. Judaism healed a lot of Xtianity-shaped wounds for me, and if your paganism, Satanism, and/or atheism helps you in the same way as well as bringing you meaning, I sincerely wish you the best.
However, the problem is that many times, unless you turn to Judaism and learn our side of the story, it's very difficult to deconstruct the antisemitism of your past entanglement with Xtianity. Xtian antisemitism has permeated western society so thoroughly for so long that it is real *work* to identify and unlearn it. Those converting to Judaism have the benefit of the Jewish community and extensive educational resources to help. Other folks do not.
Here's the problem: if you simply invert Xtian ideas, you are still treating Xtianity as the baseline reality from which your other assumptions and beliefs flow. If you just choose the opposite at every chance, you divorce yourself from Xtianity, but not its prejudices.
Now you might fairly ask, "hey Avital, if we are making the opposite choice at every turn, wouldn't that invert the antisemitism to being at least neutral if not positive towards Judaism?" And that would be perfectly logical! But unfortunately deeply and (for us) dangerously incorrect.
The reason is because (1) antisemitism has never been rational but reactionary instead, (2) philosemitism is also bad, and (3) it is structured in a way that it's pretty much always "heads I win, tails you lose." Have you ever noticed that according to antisemites, Jews are both ultra-white and also dirty foreign middle eastern invaders? That we are supposedly very powerful and run the world, but are also weak and degenerate? That both the Right and the Left have extensive antisemitism problems? Etc.? There's a reason - it's because antisemitism is designed to other us no matter what. So oftentimes I see folks inverting Xtian philosemitism to being "those awful fundamentalist Old Testamenters" or inverting Xtian antisemitism to valorizing Judaism, but only to the extent that they can meme-ify our religion down to fighting God and/or being un-pious godless liberals.
But like other groups, we are a diverse and complicated group with a very long history and a lot of trauma to boot.
If you're trying to unpack your Xtian conditioning, please also unpack your antisemitism and philosemitism. If not for our sake and for it being the right thing to do, at least do it for yourselves, because unless you deconstruct that as well, you will still be operating within a really ugly aspect of a Xtian mindset.
(**Please note that this isn't literally all Xtians everywhere, but it is a lot of Xtians in most places and throughout most of history. There are absolutely Xtians who are good allies to Jews, but they are much smaller in number and are swimming upstream in their relationship to both Jews and Xtianity.)
