Eddie doesn't believe dreams have meaning. He believes your brain simply relaxes after a day of working, letting everything it saw and thought run freely and stick into weird, meaningless shapes.
But that morning, he woke up with a whine.
He's dreamt of Steve's puppy dog eyes looking up against his chest. He's dreamt of grocery aisles navigated with a leash in hand. He's dreamt of fur and skin and eating at the table, him from a plate, and Steve from a dog bowl.
And it made his sad heart constrict and ache. No matter how much he's been dragging Steve around to see their friends and to prepare for their little party, he still has been off and distant. Eddie was missing something, and Steve wouldn't tell him what it was.
The party is this weekend, and today he's helping Steve prepare the backyard. It's the last moment to coax it out of him. Gently. And preferably without him noticing.
It's a weird thing to take note of and enjoy, but Eddie still does—carrying a barbecue out of a shed is something only humans could do, and he's elated to be able to do it with Steve. He pats his hands against his jeans, dusting them off leftover dirt and ash.
"Good job!" he says with a grin and reaches out towards Steve. It works, his friend ducking his head with a smile to accept a quick scratch against his scalp. Eddie feels proud of himself more than he ever did for passing an exam. He's tip-toeing the line between Steve's two forms, with full intent to breach it soon, and he's eating out of his hand.
Huh.
Maybe he should try that at some point, too.
They find another barbecue, smaller than the last one, and bring it out as well, and after a short break, they start cleaning. While pulling out lawn chairs from the pool shed, Eddie finds some old toys. And among them, a tennis ball. A golden opportunity Eddie is unable to pass. He runs outside, where Steve is cleaning the pool.
"Catch!" It's all the warning he gives before throwing the ball at him.
Steve turns to him and his eyes widen joyfully when he spots the ball. He hesitates for a millisecond too long, but still manages to catch it, the net he's been using to fish out leaves falling to the ground. He throws the toy from one hand to another, almost transfixed, before looking up.
"Since when do you like throwing balls around?" he asks, cocking his head.
"Since I have a dog to play with." Eddie grins at him. "Wanna play fetch?"
Steve's arms fall and Eddie thinks he might have overstepped this time. That's it, their tentative friendship is gone. Who's going to hug Steve now?
"You're joking."
"Try me." Eddie lifts his chin, digging his grave deeper.
Steve shuffles his weight from one leg to another, the ball in his hand moving hypnotizingly.
"Are you going to make fun of me?" he asks, looking up all blasé like it wouldn't hurt him. For now, it's only hurting Eddie that he could think of him like that.
"Of course not," he protests. "I just thought it could be fun. I'm sorry if it's like, overstepping or something." He raises his shoulders in a defensive shrug. Steve considers him for a moment.
"It could be fun," he admits eventually, before throwing the ball straight at Eddie's chest. He scrambles to catch it, so he completely misses the moment Steve shifts. When he looks up, he sees the dog already shaking out from the polo Steve has just been wearing.
Relieved, Eddie raises his hand, Steve's muscles tensing in anticipation, and when he throws, it's like a spring let loose, flying after the ball. He grins, and he can see the same delight in Steve's eyes when he proudly brings the toy back.
"Good boy," Eddie praises him after he gets the slightly damp ball back in his hand. But he can feel Steve tensing under his hand when he scratches his head. He frowns. "You don't like that?"
He shakes his head, and Eddie presses his lips together.
"No, you don't, or no, you do like it?"
Despite the dog's limited expression, he can sense the exasperation as they stare at each other.
"Okay, uh, do you want to be called a good boy?" he clears up his question.
Steve hesitates but nods.
"Okay, you got it." Eddie smiles, giving him another scratch before throwing the ball again. He watches Steve dive between the untamed bushes that surround the backyard. As the dog struts back, he forms his next question but waits till the ball is back in his grasp before he asks it.
"Do you want to be called a good boy when you shift back?"
Steve stares at him.
Eddie stares back.
It's a tiny thing, easy to miss, but Steve nods. Eddie smiles at him.
"You got it, Stevie," he says, reaching to give him more scratches. "So good, telling me what you need. All you gotta do is ask, okay? Don't be shy, man. We're friends. "
Impulsively, he leans in to plant a kiss on the slope of his furry snout. He throws the ball again.
So Steve needs some praise and reassurances? He can do that.

The meaning of Jinshi and Maomao's names
I was wondering: if Apothecary Diaries is set in ancient China, but some of the characters' names are in Japanese, then what would their "real" names (or Chinese names) be and what their meanings would be?
Here I answer that question.
Maomao
In Japanese, Maomao's name is マオマオ, her name in Japanese doesn't mean much, but in Chinese it means a lot!
Her name literally means cat, the word mao (猫 in Chinese) is cat. Which fits her personality very well. Furthermore, this is why she appears as a cat in the manga and anime.
Her nickname, Xiao Mao, means little cat (xiao is small in Chinese) and in Japanese it becomes shao mao (shao is the Japanese version of xiao).
But there's one more thing, Maomao's surname! Being Lakan's daughter, she inherits his surname, which is Kan(Han in chinese).
But the name's clan is not Kan, but luó, which means net to capture birds or prepare a net to capture, and is extended to mean to collect, attract and capture. Which for me fits very well with Lakan who is a strategist.
So in the end Maomao's full name would be Han Maomao or 漢猫猫 (in Chinese).
Jinshi
Jinshi's name (in Japanese it's ジンシ) is more interesting.
Jinshi (進士) in Chinese is a word that meant the highest grade in the imperial exam in ancient China. Which I found quite funny because Jinshi is in a high position as a eunuch.
The Chinese version of jinshi, which is Ren shí (壬氏), has no meaning other than being the Chinese version of the name Jinshi. Now let's look at Jinshi's real name, his baptismal name which is Ka Zuigetsu.
Ka means flower and is the surname of the royal family, and the ending in Jinshi's name, Tsu, probably refers to the Moon, which is tsuki in Japanese. (And alludes to Jinshi's title, Prince of the Moon).
The name Ka Zuigetsu in Chinese is Huá Ruì Yuè(華瑞月) ,Hua is the word magnificent and Yue is Moon in Chinese.
When Jinshi disguises himself as Jinka (in Chinese Ren Hua), he uses the character 華 (ka) in his disguise name, later we discover that this character refers to his real name.

(7) After the Storm
The frost was beginning to melt by the time the BAU packed up.
Brookings felt quieter than usual, like the town was holding its breath. Word had spread fast—three girls rescued from a madman’s cabin in the woods. Two reunited with grieving relatives. One, Mira Carson, had no one waiting. No parent left to claim her.
But she had survived.
And she wasn’t alone anymore.
Wren stood by the hospital window in her same windbreaker, watching Mira through the double-paned glass. The girl sat on the edge of the exam table, bare feet dangling, her dark hair still damp from the medic’s sponge bath. Her posture was rigid. Her expression unreadable. But her hand—Wren noticed—never left the grip of Annie’s.
Lila sat on the other side of her, chewing on a cup of ice chips and watching cartoons, unaware of how much Mira had shielded her from. Annie, barely able to speak, leaned into Mira’s side like it was the only thing holding her up.
“She made sure they ate,” the attending nurse had said. “Taught them how to answer calmly. She put herself between them and Hale. She was... their little general.”
It stayed with Wren even as she boarded the jet.
The hum of the FBI’s Gulfstream jet was a familiar comfort to the rest of the team. To Wren, it still felt new. The beige leather seats, the overhead hum, the files tucked into netted sleeves—all of it faintly unreal, like stepping into a movie after living backstage.
She took a seat across from Reid, who was flipping through a slim medical journal. His expression was drawn, but calm. Garcia was back in Quantico, having sent her final update on Hale’s digital footprint—minimal, almost deliberately erased. The rest of the team settled in one by one: Hotch with his folder already open, Emily nursing a mug of tea, JJ and Morgan sharing quiet conversation near the window, and Rossi seated at the far end, watching them all like a weathered captain of a strange, steady ship.
“We’re officially closed,” Hotch said to the room, breaking the silence. “Local PD is finishing the last of the evidence catalog. Hale is in custody, and the girls are safe.”
Wren exhaled slowly, letting the truth settle in.
“They’re safe,” she repeated.
Rossi gave a slow nod. “And Mira made sure of that. Seven years in captivity, and she still found a way to fight for them.”
“She was his original focus,” Reid said. “The fantasy began with her. Everything since has been him trying to replicate the control he felt over her.”
“But she never gave him full control,” JJ added. “You could see it in how she handled the other girls. She kept her mind.”
Hotch glanced down at his notes. “Psych evaluations confirm what we suspected. Hale began grooming her early—telling her she was chosen, that she’d been saved. Reframing captivity as protection.”
Emily leaned forward. “He was preparing her. Not just to obey—but to eventually take over. When she was old enough, he planned to make her a ‘mother’ to the new girls.”
“Disgusting,” Morgan muttered. “He wanted to make a world where he never had to be rejected again.”
“Except Mira resisted,” Wren said. “She protected the girls. Taught them to behave so he wouldn’t hurt them. But she never broke.”
Everyone looked at her.
It was the longest stretch of uninterrupted silence she'd received since joining the team.
“She told the ER nurse that she never cried in front of him,” Wren continued, voice low but steady. “That she didn’t want him to know he got to her.”
Hotch gave a small, solemn nod. “That’s strength.”
Reid closed his journal. “What Mira did goes beyond survival instinct. That’s cognitive resilience. She rewrote the story in her head to keep her identity intact.”
Wren’s throat tightened. “She raised them in hell. And now she’s the reason they’re alive.”
Rossi looked toward the windows, his voice roughened by the years. “Sometimes the strongest survivors are the ones who were never allowed to be kids.”
No one argued with that.
The plane hit a patch of light turbulence, but Wren barely noticed. She stared down at her clasped hands, the tight knots in her shoulders starting to unwind—not all the way, but enough.
JJ stood and gently placed a folder in front of her. “You’ll need to write up your version of the profile for the case file. Hotch will sign off, but it goes in under your name.”
Wren blinked. “Mine?”
JJ smiled. “You saw things we didn’t. You spoke up. You’re part of this.”
“Get used to it,” Morgan added, grinning from the other row. “This job’s not about seniority. It’s about instinct. And you’ve got it.”
Wren felt something stir—some small, bright thing under her ribs. Not pride. Not yet. But the start of it. The quiet flicker of I belong here.
Hotch spoke again, voice quieter this time.
“We did good work. And we’ll keep checking on the girls.”
He didn’t look at anyone in particular—but Wren knew it was for her.
Rossi raised his coffee cup. “To Mira Carson. Stronger than anyone gave her credit for.”
JJ followed, then Reid, Emily, Morgan.
And slowly, Wren raised her own.
The jet soared above the clouds, slicing through the soft light of late morning.
And beneath the echo of their toasts and the thrum of the engines, Wren closed her eyes briefly—letting herself feel, for just a moment, what it meant to win.
The Quantico bullpen was quiet when Wren stepped off the elevator.
Her boots echoed lightly against the tile, duffel bag slung over her shoulder, windbreaker wrinkled from the long flight. The sun outside was still high, but the air inside felt low and cool, like the building had been holding its breath.
She walked to her desk—her desk—and set the bag down. The paperwork from the Brookings case was still being processed. JJ and Emily were giving statements to child protective services. Reid was buried in the psychology behind long-term captivity. Garcia was already sifting through case leads back in her "cave."
Wren just… stood still.
And then she heard a familiar voice behind her.
“Hell of a first case.”
She turned. Rossi stood a few feet away, arms folded, suit jacket unbuttoned, a coffee in his hand that smelled criminally strong.
“I keep thinking I missed something,” Wren said, not turning back to her desk. “That I forgot a detail. That I could’ve said something different to Mira. Or been faster.”
Rossi approached and leaned against the edge of her desk. “Everyone thinks that after their first case. Some still do after their hundredth.”
“She looked at me like I was the enemy.”
“She looked at you like she was trying to figure out how not to drown.”
Wren exhaled. Her shoulders finally dropped.
“She protected them,” she said softly. “That whole time.”
Rossi nodded. “Survivors often do. They become protectors, not because they want to, but because they have no other choice. You saw that in her.”
Wren met his gaze. “You think I did okay?”
“I think,” Rossi said, pushing off the desk, “that you saw her. And she saw you. That matters more than you know.”
She watched him go, his steps unhurried, his presence still somehow anchoring even after he turned the corner.
Wren sat slowly at her desk, fingers trailing the grain of the wood.
Maybe she could breathe now.
The sky was burning with late-afternoon orange when she finally made it down to the parking garage.
The echo of her footsteps was swallowed by concrete and quiet. She pulled her car keys from her pocket, aiming for the sleek black sedan tucked against the wall—and then froze.
Hotch was already there.
Leaning against the driver’s side of his SUV, jacket draped over one arm, eyes on her as if he’d been waiting.
Wren hesitated. “Sir.”
He offered a small nod. “Wren.”
Her hand tightened on the strap of her bag.
Hotch pushed off the car and approached. The lines on his face were softer today, the dark suit still sharp but slightly rumpled. His tie had been loosened, and there was a weariness in his posture that mirrored her own.
“You did good work,” he said.
She blinked. “I—thank you.”
Hotch studied her for a moment longer, as if weighing his next words. “You handled the scene with calm. With restraint. With empathy.”
Wren looked down. “I was scared.”
“That’s why I trusted you.”
She looked up then, surprised.
Hotch’s expression didn’t waver. “People who aren’t afraid walk into danger blind. You walked in with your eyes open.”
She didn’t quite know what to say.
He continued, voice low and measured. “Mira’s path is going to be long. You won’t be able to fix that. None of us can. But what you did—helping her take the first step—that matters.”
Wren felt her throat tighten. “It doesn’t feel like enough.”
“It never does.” He glanced at her duffel. “Go home. Rest. You earned it.”
She hesitated, then asked, “Why me? You read my file. You knew I was a risk.”
Hotch’s answer came without delay. “Because risks don’t scare me. The wrong reasons do. And you didn’t have any.”
Wren swallowed.
He turned back toward his SUV, unlocking the door. “You’ll be on the next case.”
She gave a small nod, more to herself than him. “I’ll be ready.”
Hotch glanced back, a rare flicker of warmth in his gaze. “You already are.”
And with that, he stepped inside, started the engine, and drove away—his taillights fading slowly into the quiet hum of the garage.
Wren stood alone for a moment longer, the weight of the case still in her limbs but less heavy somehow. She looked up, past the rows of cars, toward the ramp that led back to the surface. Back to daylight.
Then she slid into her own car, turned the key, and drove toward the exit.
For the first time since joining the team, she didn’t feel like she was pretending to belong.
She did.
Wren stood in the doorway of her apartment, keys still dangling from her fingers.
The silence hit first.
After days of radio chatter, crying children, boots on gravel, and the constant hum of tension—it was deafening.
She stepped inside.
Dropped her duffel by the coat rack.
Kicked off her shoes.
The soft thud of each movement echoed through the space like a song with too few notes. The living room was exactly how she left it—couch still slightly askew, her throw blanket bunched up in the corner, an empty wine glass on the coffee table from a night she barely remembered.
She moved toward the kitchen without turning on the lights.
The refrigerator opened with a mechanical sigh. A bottle of water. Half a lemon. Leftover Chinese she wouldn’t touch.
She closed it again.
The apartment wasn’t big. A modest two-bedroom with hardwood floors, white walls, and one large bay window that overlooked the quiet street below. It felt too clean. Too still.
She poured herself a glass of water and leaned against the counter, arms folded.
Mira’s face wouldn’t leave her.
That moment in the cabin, the way she stepped between the others and the younger girls, like a wall that had stood for too long. The look in her eyes—distant, tired, too grown for her years.
You’ll ruin everything, she’d said.
Wren had been trained for that. Prepped for psychological resistance. But nothing prepared her for the shiver that traveled up her spine at the sound of that voice—half-child, half-prisoner.
And yet Mira had stepped forward. Had let them help.
That was something.
Wren carried her glass to the small table near the window, sinking into the chair. The city lights blinked faintly beyond the trees. Somewhere, people were living normal lives. Ordering takeout. Folding laundry. Laughing at sitcoms.
She felt galaxies away from all of it.
Her phone buzzed.
She flinched before reaching for it.
Text from Penelope Garcia:
Hey Wonder Agent. Just checking in. You okay?
Wren stared at the screen for a long beat. Then typed:
I don’t know.
Three dots appeared. Then disappeared. Then came back.
That’s okay. We’re all figuring it out. Proud of you.
Wren set the phone down and blinked hard.
She reached for her notebook—the one she kept hidden beneath her stack of field guides. Flipping it open to a blank page, she wrote:
Brookings, SD – Case #1
Mira Carson. Lila Meadows. Annie Cole.
Still breathing.
Then, below that:
What did I learn?
1. Fear is not weakness.
2. Trust is a slow thing.
3. Some survivors protect others before themselves.
4. I don’t know if I’m built for this. But I’m here.
She let the pen fall beside the notebook.
Then stood slowly, walking to the stereo tucked into the bookshelf. She clicked it on, let the soft hum of jazz filter through the room. A record her aunt used to play. Miles Davis. Low and warm and slow.
She curled into the corner of the couch, legs tucked beneath her, arms wrapped around a pillow like armor. The streetlight outside cast long shadows through the window. The music played on.
She didn’t cry.
But she also didn’t sleep.
Not yet.
Not tonight.
Because this was what no one prepared you for—not the gun range, not the psych evals, not the pages of criminal theory.
The quiet after.
The moment when no one’s watching. When the children are safe. When the suspect’s in custody. When the team goes home.
And you sit in the stillness of your own mind, wondering what part of you changed and if it’s ever coming back.
And whether that’s a bad thing… or just the beginning.

Why Pursuing a BA After 12th in Pune Is a Smart Career Move
For students finishing their 12th standard and looking for a meaningful and flexible academic path, a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree offers an excellent option. With a wide range of subjects and career possibilities, the BA program provides the kind of foundational knowledge and skills that remain relevant in an ever-changing job market.
Pune often called the academic heart of Maharashtra, has emerged as a preferred destination for students seeking a strong liberal arts education. Its colleges are known for academic quality, cultural diversity, and exposure to real-world learning.
A Versatile Degree with Strong Foundations
A BA program allows students to dive deep into subjects like English, Economics, Psychology, Political Science, History, Sociology, and more. The degree is structured to help students build critical thinking, communication, and analytical skills that employers value across industries.
Unlike technical courses that limit you to specific roles, a BA opens up opportunities in multiple fields. Students can later branch into education, media, public administration, content creation, research, and even corporate roles.
Learning Beyond Textbooks
One of the key advantages of studying BA in Pune is the focus on practical learning. Many colleges offer hands-on projects, field visits, seminars, and internships that allow students to apply their classroom knowledge in real-life settings.
Colleges like Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce (SCAC) include skill-based modules, guest lectures, and interactive learning sessions. Students benefit from workshops on soft skills, communication, digital tools, and social research methods. This exposure helps bridge the gap between academic learning and professional application.
Career Opportunities After BA
Contrary to popular myths, BA graduates have access to a wide range of career options. Depending on your subject and interests, you can explore roles such as:
Content writer or editor
Public relations or communications officer
Human resource executive
Policy analyst or civil service aspirant
Counselor or psychologist (with further study)
NGO or social sector professional
The flexibility of the degree also makes it easier to pursue postgraduate studies in management, arts, education, or social sciences. Many students go on to write exams like UPSC, and NET, or prepare for international education.
Updated Curriculum Aligned with Today’s Needs
In recent years, leading BA colleges in Pune have revised their curricula to match current demands. With the New Education Policy in place, students can now choose specializations, combine major and minor subjects, and earn credit through internships and add-on certifications.
Institutions like SCAC have introduced courses in digital media, creative writing, personality development, and campus-to-career transitions. These additions help students stay ahead in both academic and professional spheres.
A College Experience That Builds Confidence
College life is more than academics. Pune’s BA colleges offer rich student life through clubs, debates, theatre, literature forums, and social outreach programs. These activities play a major role in developing leadership, creativity, and collaboration.
Such an environment not only builds confidence but also helps students discover their interests beyond the syllabus. It prepares them for life after college, both personally and professionally.
Why Pune Makes a Difference
Studying in Pune comes with several advantages. The city offers a blend of academic excellence, affordable living, and access to opportunities in NGOs, media houses, educational institutions, and startups. The student-friendly atmosphere, combined with cultural exposure, makes it an ideal place to pursue a BA degree.
Colleges like SCAC are recognized for maintaining academic rigor while also encouraging holistic development. With a supportive faculty, strong infrastructure, and focus on career readiness, students are well-positioned to succeed after graduation.
Final Thoughts
A BA degree is not just about studying arts subjects. It is about developing a flexible mindset, learning how to think critically, and gaining the skills to adapt in a variety of fields. For students looking to make the most of their college years, Pune offers the right combination of learning, exposure, and growth.
Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce stands among the respected institutions that help students build a strong foundation for their future, both in academics and beyond.

RJ's Platinum Collection #62: Persona 4 Golden
Tumblr media
Achieved on 3/3/2025 at 11:42 PM
I always had known of the Persona series, but I never actually played it. And then one day, I decided to give it a try. So I bought a Persona game, and started playing it, and I became hooked. I became obsessed. It was one of the most fun video game experiences I ever had, and I was determined to get the Platinum for it.
That game.......was Persona 5.
Yeah, I actually played Persona 5 up until the boss of the second dungeon, but then I had a catastrophic system glitch and lost my save file. I was very sad and annoyed, so I decided to take a break from Persona 5 and try something else.
That something else ended up being Persona 4 Golden. And if I thought I had loved Persona 5, I was not prepared for how much I would end up adoring Persona 4.
As soon as I began playing Persona 4, I wondered to myself "How did I miss this gem for so long?". I immediately fell in love with the game and the characters. And I also loved how different the plot was from Persona 5, and was excited to join these small town teenagers in discovering the truth behind a series of murders related to the strange world inside the TV's.
I now know that the Persona 4 protagonist has the canon name Yu Narukami, but at the time of my first playthrough, I gave him the name Rin Yamanouchi. I played the game blind, using my knowledge of the similar mechanics from Persona 5, and got three trophies early on.
1/50: The Other Self - Obtain the Persona Izanagi.
2/50: Advantage Mine - Enter a battle with Player Advantage.
3/50: A Favor for Marie - Register a Skill Card.
Now I will say that, going into this game, I had already known that there were guides on how to 100% the game as quickly as possible. Like, guides that told you exactly what to do day-by-day in order to unlock all the trophies. And at first, I didn't want to do that. I wanted to play the game completely blind.
And then I failed to rescue Yukiko before the deadline.
From that point on, I decided that I could still enjoy the game even if I was using a playthrough guide. So I restarted the game, and this time I played following the 100% Schedule Guide. I know some people might not agree with his decision, but the important thing is that I was correct, and I was still able to thoroughly enjoy the game even when I was playing following a guide.
So I continued on with Rin, now renamed to his canon name Yu, and played through the entire game day by day.
4/50: Lucky Me! - Win a prize from the vending machine.
5/50: Persona Shopper - Buy a Persona from the Compendium.
6/50: Seize The Moment - Buy a special croquette from Sozai Daigaku.
7/50: It's Working Today - Buy an item from the Capsule Machine.
8/50: Fashion Plate - Fight a battle in costume.
9/50: Tactical Fighter - Exploit enemy weaknesses 100 times.
10/50: Skilled Commander - Perform 50 All-Out Attacks.
11/50: A Prince Appears - Rescue Yukiko Amagi.
12/50: Grasping At Greed - Defeat a Golden Hand.
13/50: A True Man's Stand - Rescue Kanji Tatsumi.
Real quick note: Kanji is Best Boy. That is all.
14/50: Bug Hunter - Swing the bug net with perfect timing.
15/50: Fill Your Hand - Get 50 Sweep Bonuses.
16/50: Displaying Adaptability - Switch Personas 5 times in one battle.
17/50: The Lounge Is Closed - Rescue Rise Kujikawa.
18/50: Granter Of Your Desires - Buy 5 things from Tanaka's Amazing Commodities.
One thing to mention is that, by following the guide, there were some points where I would do things specifically to get trophies, and then reload a previous save in order to keep things running smoothly. Save files REALLY came in handy a lot in this game. You bet your ass I was making sure to use a Goho-M and save the game before any boss fight.
19/50: Movie Buff - Go to three movies at 30 Frame.
20/50: Head of the Class - Rank #1 in your class on an exam.
21/50: The Nose Doesn't Always Know - Experience a fusion accident.
22/50: Special Fusion Expert - Use 4 or more Personas in a special fusion.
23/50: Game Over - Secure Mitsuo Kubo.
24/50: A True Bond - Max out a Social Link.
25/50: Fishing Master - Catch the Sea Guardian.
26/50: Going Nova - Deal over 999 damage in 1 attack.
27/50: Boarded-Up Lab - Rescue Naoto Shirogane.
28/50: Moderate Bookkeeper - Register over 50% of the Persona Compendium.
Also I think most Persona 4 fans can agree that Rise and Yu are just meant to be. I know Yu can romance Chie and Yukiko and Naoto and a few other social link girls, but honestly? Yu and Rise just make the most sense.
Also Rise is Best Girl, I love her so much. Just give me Yu, Rise, and Kanji and I'll be a happy RJ.
Anyways, continuing on with the playthrough and getting trophies!
29/50: A Special Lady - Enter a special relationship with someone.
30/50: The Return of the Angels - Rescue Nanako Dojima.
31/50: Mr. Perfect - Max out all social qualities.
32/50: Food Fighter - Finish Aiya's special dish.
33/50: Big Bro Is Worried - Visit Nanako in the hospital three times.
34/50: Bond Maniac - Max out 10 Social Links.
35/50: Compulsive Reader - Read all books.
36/50: Fusion Expert - Perform 50 Persona fusions.
I will also say that I was genuinely thrown for a loop by the identity of the real killer. Looking back, there were plenty of hints about it, but I was genuinely surprised. I guess I just got tricked by the soft tones of Johnny Yung Bosch's voice. Sigh.
37/50: Breaking Through The Fog - Secure Tohru Adachi.
After capturing Adachi, surprisingly there is still a lot left to do in the game, so I continued following the guide to get more miscellaneous trophies.
38/50: An Acquired Taste - Drink the coffee at Cafe Chagall.
39/50: The Reaper Becomes The Reaped - Defeat the Reaper.
40/50: Cooking With Gas - Make five perfect boxed lunches.
And then it was time for Marie's dungeon. Apparently, Marie's dungeon will ONLY appear in the game if you finish her Social Link. I am glad that I followed the guide, because if I had been playing blind like my first attempt at Persona 4, I would have straight up ignored her. I find Marie deeply annoying, sorry to all Marie fans.
41/50: Welcome Back - Rescue Marie.
After that, all I had left was finishing the last Social Links and then defeating the real final boss, and I had officially finished my first entire playthrough of Persona 4 Golden.
42/50: Legend of Inaba - Max out all Social Links.
43/50: The Truth In Your Hands - Defeat Izanami.
Now it was time for my New Game+ playthrough. I was specifically aiming for the secret Margaret fight that is only available on the final day of a New Game+ playthrough, but I was also going to go for all the remaining skill cards, Personas for the Compendium, and getting 250 unique navigation lines from Rise.
That last one I will get back to.
But I ended up playing the entire game again, and this time I did whatever I wanted, only building up the Social Links that I liked the best, and being an absolute troll and menace. It was great. And by the end of my second playthrough, I got all but two trophies in the game.
44/50: Card Collector - Register 100 Skill Cards.
45/50: Thorough Bookkeeper - Complete the Persona Compendium.
46/50: The Power of Truth - Create Izanagi-no-Okami.
47/50: One Who Has Proven Their Power - Defeat Margaret.
So, you'll notice that even though I began my New Game+ playthrough with the intention of getting Hardcore Risette Fan, I did not get it. This is because I was an idiot and didn't think to keep track of the lines until halfway through the first dungeon with Rise as navigator. I ended up getting so frustrated that I just gave up.
So yes. I actually had to play an entire third playthrough of the game JUST for the sole purpose of unlocking the trophy for hearing 250 of Rise's navigation lines, this time keeping track and spending hours in a dungeon grinding out different lines. It was infuriating, but the pure euphoria I felt when I finally unlocked the trophy was indescribable.
48/50: Hardcore Risette Fan - Hear 250 of Rise's navigation lines.
After that, I only had to do the Miracle Quiz minigame. This is a quiz show where Teddie challenges you to answer trivia questions about Persona 4. And some of these questions are VERY obscure. I think one of them was "how many seats are in the classroom" at the school. It was wild. I ended up using a guide for this as well, and when I won the Finals of the game, I got the Platinum for Persona 4 Golden!
49/50: A New Quiz King - Win the Miracle Quiz Finals.
50/50: Golden Completed - Earn all trophies.
I really enjoyed what little I had actually played of Persona 5, but this game is what made me become a truly obsessed Persona fanatic. I love the setting, I love the characters, I love the dungeons, and even though some parts of this Platinum were frustrating, I loved every minute of the 150 hours it took to get it.
And as of me posting this, Persona 4 Revival has been announced, and I already know I've lost the mental battle to convince myself not to buy it. Persona 4 has a special place in my heart.

You can read this fanfiction in Fanfiction net, Wattpad and soon AO3
This will be a “My Hero Academia” story but will have a minor crossover. I say minor because only the power system of another anime will be crossed over to MHA as a Quirk, no other elements from that anime will appear in this fanfiction. Said anime will remain a secret for now but it will be obvious once you see it.
There are references to 3 different anime within this chapter, see if you can figure them all out, it’s pretty easy tho.   Good luck ;)
Enough said. I hope you enjoy reading this story as much as I enjoyed writing it.
DISCLAIMER
I do not own My hero academia or any other elements from existing anime, the pain is real. TwT

Chapter 1 – Beginnings and preparations for UA
The classroom was in a buzz, being the last day of middle school everyone was excited, specially with the teacher still not in class yet.
The classroom was full of groups of friends huddled together babbling about what highschool they want to go to, what they plan on doing during the break and many other topics.
It was no different with a pair of friends on the back near a window.
“I’m telling you, we gotta beef up our training man! We couldn’t focus a lot on the physical aspect of our training because of the exams so now we gotta make up for it Shinso.” - A boy with amethyst eyes and silver hair caught in a ponytail exclaimed to his friend. He was tall for his age, being 15 years old and standing at 5’11’’.
“Really? Can’t we just keep doing what we used to do before the exams? We already trained every day Luci.” – The now named Shinso asked his exasperated friend. Shinso was a boy with spiky indigo gravity defying hair and purple eyes, like his friend he was tall for his age, being 15 years old and standing at 5’9’’, just 2’’ shorter.
Luci just gave Shinso what Shinso likes to call the ‘making you feel stupid with a look’ look, a deadpan expression with an eyebrow slowly arching up. “Shin, buddy, we’re aiming for UA high, not your run of the mill highschool, it has less than 5% acceptance rate for the heroics course. We can’t go in half-assed.”
Shinso lightly blushed in embarrassment at being on the receiving end of that look coupled with the rational observation. “Yea… I guess you’re right...”
“I’m always right!” Luci quipped in jest while holding a finger up with a smirk.
“Smartass” Shinso glares but the image is ruined by the smile tugging at the corner of his lips. It’s a running joke between them, thanks to Luci’ eidetic memory more often than not he tends to be right.
“Our quirks might be useful in combat but they are not in all situations. While your quirk ‘Brainwashing’ might be perfect for fighting against other people, it is terrible for fighting inanimate objects while mine will only be useful if I’m fighting inorganic objects, like robots or something alike. That’s why we gotta train our bodies to compensate.”  ‘Well that’s not entirely true… I could use my quirk on people but the reaction wouldn’t be pretty, nor would the consequences of those  be. I’d be lucky if all they did was lock me up in Tartarus’ – A shiver went down Luci’ spine at that thought. ‘I’d never see the light of day, let alone be a hero.’
“Fine, fine” – Shinso relented tiredly already dreading Luci’s hellish training, although he couldn’t complain. Ever since Luci came into his life everything changed dramatically for the better. Not only did Luci become his first and best friend since his quirk awoke but now he no longer lamented on how his quirk was seen as villainous and had no applications on heroics. He thought back to their first interaction fondly as Luci went on a tangent about training.
_________FLASHBACK_________
(Beginning of the second semester of the second year of middle school)
“ Alright class, settle down.” – The teacher spoke with a tone that demanded attention. When all was quiet he continued. – “Today we have a new transfer student joining us from Shibuya. I want you all to be civil and help him acclamate to our school.”
While the teacher spoke, light chatter could be heard throughout the classroom.
“Ohhh it’s a boy, I wonder if he’s cute” – One of the more popular girl asked her friends.  “I wonder what his quirk is, do you think it’s a powerful one” - A boy asked to no one in particular, but several commenting and speculating on it.
Shinso lightly tskd ‘if it is, he’s probably like all the rest with powerful quirks, arrogant and unappreciative of being born blessed with a powerful heroic quirk’
“You can come in now” – The teacher said while turning to the door.
The door slid open and a boy with silver hair that reached the middle of his back caught in a pony tail walked in.
When the boy reached the teacher he turn to the students. Everyone could now see the boy clearly. He had deep amethyst eyes and fair skin, he was slim and muscular but not bulky like the jocks. He had almost an androgynous look to him.
Mumbling could be heard throughout the whole classroom, most predominantly from the female students who most were sporting generous blushes. “oh my god he is gorgeous!” – one girl said almost awestruck  - “He is so cute!” – one girl quietly squealed to herself.
The boy didn’t react to any comment of the girls, either he didn’t hear them or he was downright ignoring them, ‘probably with practiced ease’ were the thoughts of many of the boys in the class.
The boy was almost perfect in the girls opinion… Almost.
“Yes he’s pretty hot but… he looks more apathetic than Shinso” – one girl commented to her friend.
For all the boys looks, the one thing that stuck out the most was the apathetic look the boy had. He was standing tall, looking straight to nowhere in particular showing no emotion on his face or eyes.
“Yes but with those looks it makes him seem more cool than antisocial unlike Shinso” – The girls friend commented back to her friend.
Shinsos eyebrows twitched at that comment.
“Alright you can introduce yourself to the class.” – The teacher spoke to the boy, wanting to get the class started.
The boy turned to the chalkboard and wrote his name than returned his attention to the class.
“My name is Akabane Luciel, it is a pleasure to meet you all.” – The boy spoke politely while bowing with a smile. While he was polite and his smile seemed genuine, his voice seemed almost cold, making many question if his smile was actually genuine.
‘No surprise, he just transferred here, he wouldn’t be chummy with everyone right away. Either that or he thinks he’s better than everyone here.’ – Shinso thought, first in understanding that than turned to annoyance.
“Alright then, you can sit… ah, there’s a free seat there in the back next to Hitoshi Shinso.”
The now named Luciel nodded to his teacher and went to sit down. On his way to his seat he crossed eyes with Shinso and gave a small nod in greeting. Said act seemed to surprise the indigo haired boy.
‘Huh… guess he just doesn’t talk much instead of thinking he’s better than us.’ – Shinso thought, having his opinion of Luciel raised a few notches.
With everyone seated class began.
 ____________________________________________
(Some time later after class, during lunch)
Nearing the end of the class Luciel was contemplating whether he’d risk trying to find the cafeteria alone or ask someone to show him around. Having decided to ask for help he chose to ask his desk neighbor Hitoshi Shinso. Out of everyone in the class he was the only one that wasn’t commenting about him as if he wasn’t here.
Luciel got up and stood next to Shinso’s desk. “Hey, Hitoshi-san right?” – Luciel asked with a friendly yet neutral tone. It amazed Shinso how one can sound friendly yet neutral.
“Yes, can I help you Akabane-san?” – Shinso asked, curious what the new kid wanted.
“I was wondering if you could show me around, at least to the cafeteria for lunch, as a thank you I’ll pay for your lunch.” – Luciel added seeing no bento or any kind of food with Shinso, guessing he’ll also go to the cafeteria.
“Yeah, I don’t mi…” Shinso was answering the silver haired boy when they were rudely interrupted.
“Hey, new guy, a friendly advice.” – A brunette girl and two black haired boys walked smuggly twords them “Be careful around Shinso, or he’ll mess with your mind with his villainous quirk.” – The girl crossed her arms when she reached them and gave a confident smirk “You should come and hang out with us instead.”
Luciel raised an enquiring eyebrow looking between Shinso and the new arrivals. “Villainous quirk?”
Shinso said nothing but had a resigned and frustrated look. That seemed to emboldened the girl as she continued. “Yes, his quirk allows him to brainwash people when they answer one of his questions, then they obey any and all commands he gives them, worse yet, those brainwashed don’t have any memories of what they did or ever being brainwashed in the first place.”
Luciel cupped his chin “hm… Interesting” Luciel murmured so quietly that no one heard him.
“Hey Hitoshi-san” – Luciel asked with the same  tone as the beginning of the conversation.
Shinso looked up, expecting the usual ‘you wouldn’t use your quirk on me’ or declaring it a villainous quirk or even just the silver haired boy not wanting anything to do with him. What Luciel actually said completely befuddled not only Shinso but also the trio who started this topic.
“Can you use your quirk through a phone or a radio?” – Luciel asked in complete seriousness, not noticing or just ignoring everyones perplexed looks. Most likely the latter.
“I can use it through the phone but I can only affect one person at a time, if I want to effect various people I have to do it one by one. Visual contact with who I want to target helps me focus but it’s not mandatory.” – Shinso answered honestly, too confused with the suddenness of the question to even think about saying anything but the truth.
“hm… very interesting…” - this time they all heard him, but Luciel continued unbothered. “Quite an impressive quirk, and with a lot of potential, could be used in many different ways in heroics, actually probably one of the best quirks I ever seen for a hero.” – Luciel commented, actual amazement dripping into his voice, the first emotion any of the four have heard from him since they know him, albeit they just met the silver haired boy today.
However no one was more shocked to hear those words than Shinso himself, he couldn’t even hide his shock. All his life he was told by his classmates that his quirk was a quirk of a villain, now someone says the complete opposite.
The girl was the first one to find her voice. “What do you mean the best quirk for a hero?! That quirk is clearly one for a villain! He can control people with it, against their will!”
All she got from Luciel was him giving her a deadpan expression with an eyebrow slowly arching up. This was the first of many times Shinso would see that expression on the silver haired boy.
The girl started to fidget under that stare and eventually asked – “What?”
“Are you pulling my leg or are you actually serious?” – Luciel asked honestly. Seeing her serious expression he sighed and mumble to himself while lightly shaking his head“When has common sense become rarer than quirklessness”
“Imagine there’s a bank robbery, there are civilians inside being held hostage by a villain. With me so far?” – Luciel asked, getting a nod in affirmation he continued “All it would take is Hitoshi-san here to ask ‘What are your demands?’ through the phone for the villain to be caught under his quirk, making it possible to free the hostages and apprehend the villain with near to 0% risk to both the hostages and the officers.”
“A similar plan can be used to apprehend rampaging villains, regardless of their quirks or physical strength. All he needs to do is find a way for the villain to answer him, either by asking a simple question or irritating them enough for them to answer him. With enough knowledge on human psychology he can be one of the best heroes for capturing villains.” – Luciel answered honestly, surprised he even had to point out something that should have been obvious.
Everyone was speechless, the trio looked like their whole world just shattered. But Shinso was the most surprised of all.
‘I… I never thought of that… I never even considered what my quirk could do as a hero… why did I never think about ways I could use my quirk, was I always so cought up on what people said about my quirk that I didn’t bother to think for myself?’
Before, Shinso’s opinion of Luciel raised a few notches, now his opinion of the silver haired boy was better than anyone he’d ever met before. Not only did he stood up for him without even knowing him, if it was his intention or not is irrelevant, but he also changed his opinion about his own quirk. His once jealousy for people with powerful and heroic quirks turned to gratefulness for having a not only a powerful quirk in his own right, but one that can make his dream of being a hero not only feasible but very likely based of what Luciel said.
‘Now that I think about it, the uses were pretty obvious’ – Shinso chastised himself in his mind for missing something so seemingly obvious ‘I guess hindsight really is 20/20’
Luciel seeing that would be the end of the conversation turned back to Shinso. “So Hitoshi-san, you still up for showing me to the cafeteria?” – Luciel asked casually as if he hadn’t just shattered the world view of 4 people.
Being snapped out of his own thoughts Shinso stuttered. “Y…yes, let’s go before lunch break ends.”
When they were in the school halls Shinso looked at Luciel while they walked. “Shinso.”
“Pardon?” – Luciel asked, a bit confused.
“You can just call me Shinso, no need for Hitoshi-san or Shinso-san” – Shinso replied to the silver haired boy with a friendly smile.
Luciel gave a nod and a smile “ Then you can just call me Luciel” – luciel replied with a warmer voice than Shinso has ever heard from the silver haired boy.
They walked towards the cafeteria in a compatible silence, not yet realizing that this was the beginning of a friendship that would last until the very end.
______FLASHBACK END______
Shinso was pulled out of memory lane by the annoyed silver haired boy in front of him.
“Hey! Are you even listening to me?!” – Luci asked with an annoyed tone and eyebrow violently twitching.
“Yes, yes, I heard you. We have to train our bodies to compensate for the limitations of our quirks.” – Shinso answered, but inwardly sweating bullets not wanting to tell his already incredibly annoyed silver haired friend that he didn’t hear a single word.
Luciel just offered Shinso a deadpan look. “Y’know, I’m not sure if you actually listened to me or if we had this conversation so many times that you can already guess what to answer…”
But further musing were promptly stopped, along with every chatter and babble going around the classroom by the arrival of the homeroom teacher.
“Alright, settled down class. Just because today is the last day of your stay in middle school doesn’t mean you can turn my classroom into a children’s playground.”
“Now that you’re about to enter Highschool you should try to behave more accordingly to your age, it’s time to stop playing around and get serious with your studies. Your next choices will be very important for your lives going forward. The school you choose, what subjects you focus on, what path you follow in your careers, these are all important choices you will have to make in the near future.”
Everyone for once sat quietly and listened to the lecture with wrapped attention. Despite some words could be considered jabs at the students maturity, all of them could hear the fondness they held. Mr. Ukitake truly cared about his students and wanted the best for them.
“I know I could say to strive for higher and higher, to make sure you go for the best of the best, but instead I’ll say this. Make sure you live your lives with no regrets, chase your dreams and fight for them, nothing in this world is given for free, you have to work for what you want. But most importantly, make sure that what ever happenes, you always strive to be better than you were yesterday. Don’t just look in front of you on how far you still have to go, remember to sometimes look back on how far you came, how much you’ve achieved, how much you’ve grown and be proud of yourselfs. Because I’m proud of you all.”
A few sniffles could be heard throughout the classroom as the teacher spoke, his lecture truly shows how much he cares for his students. He really is the best teacher any student could ever ask for.
“Now, with my peace about your futures said, it’s time for us to check who has applied to what school.” – Mr.Ukitake talked as if he were a host to a great game show.
Giggles could be heard throughout the classroom stopping any remaining sniffling from the previous lecture.
Mr.Ukitake started to call out students and their school choices. This whole exercise was to get the students to be honest about their reasons to want to go to said school and any possible advice or recommendations he could give his students.
Nearing the end of the list Mr.Ukitake paused. “UA High’s hero course… Hitoshi Shinso and Akabane Luciel.”
The classroom was dead silent, everyone knew how hard it was to enter into UA High, even into General education, let alone heroic course.
With everyone’s eyes on them Shinso started to slightly fidget, fortunately not as bad as it would’ve been 2 years ago, while Luciel maintained his neutral face.
Luciel just slowly gave his homeroom teacher his patented ‘Making you feel stupid with a look’ look.
‘How does he do that so well…’ Mr.Ukitake sweat dropped ‘He makes you feel uncomfortably awkward with a single look’
Mr.Ukitake coughed to hide his awkwardness “You boys are planning to go to UA High? Those entrance exams can be rather brutal… But I know you two will be able to get in, you have the makings of great heroes” – He gave them a kind smile.
Shinso gave his teacher a big smile at the reassurance while Luciel dropped his look but gave a small smile.
“May I ask why that school in particular?” – Mr.Ukitake enquired.
Shinso was the first one to answer. “I want to be the best hero I can be, and UA High has the best results in the whole country.” – Shinso replied honestly.
With their teachers gaze now on him, Luciel answered. “My favorite hero not only went to UA but he’s currently a teacher there, I want to go there and follow in his footsteps.”
This was a new piece of information about the silver haired boy that none of them new, except for Shinso. Luciel has always been a very reserved person, no one even knows what his quirk is, despite several times trying to guess or coerce it out of the silver haired boy. The only ones who know what his quirk is are the teachers, who have read it off his file, and Shinso who he told and showed several times during their training and sparing.
Mr.Ukitake was now intrigued “And who is your favorite hero young Akabane?”
“My favourite hero is The Erasure hero : Eraser Head.” – Luciel replied honestly
All we’re confused by the name, no one’s heard of that hero before.
Luciel seeing the confusion thought to himself  ‘of course you wouldn’t have heard of him, he’s an underground hero after all’
“I see, fine reasons indeed” – Mr.Ukitake said while nodding and smiling softly.
As the class continued it was soon coming to an end, and with it the end of their time in middle school.
_____________________________________________
(Some time later)
Luciel and Shinso were walking towards the train station.
“You’ve been on your phone for a while, anything up?” – Shinso asked Luciel, who still had his eyes glued to the phone.
“Yeah, kinda. I’ve been doing some research throughout the internet and it seems that the entrance exam of UA is comprised of 2 parts.” Luciel replied, still on his phone.
Now that caught Shinso’s attention.
“The first part is a written exam rumoured to be incredibly hard, but that isn’t much of a problem. My eidetic memory makes almost all tests incredibly easy and your test scores are incredibly high.” He wasn’t bragging but just stating facts, fair or not, his memory is a tool he’d exploit whenever necessary, and Shinso’s scores were always near 95%.
Shinso nodded even though his friend wasn’t looking at him.
“The second part is what’s going to be tricky, at least for you.” That got Shinso nervous
“It doesn’t say exactly how the exam works but it mentions a lot battle and robots.” Now Shinso understood why Luciel said it would be tricky for him, his quirk doesn’t work on robots, he’d be participating in the exam pretty much quirkless. “There is no more information anywhere about the exam, apparently when you enter UA you have to sign a contract of confidentiality that forbids you from talking about the exam, maybe that’s how they managed to keep the same exam for almost a decade and still maintain less than 5% acceptance rate.” – Luciel pondered while pocketing his phone.
Shinso was digesting this new information, his great mind working 200% trying to figure out how to get past this massive hurdle even before starting the exam.
“Eraser head was in the same situation as me and yet, he still passed. His quirk only works on other people, in fact, he’s even more limited than me since he can only cancel quirks while I can create a fully in sync team with just a few words, but using people like that isn’t what a hero should do.” – Shinso said idly saying his thoughts aloud.
Luciel just waited for his friend to come to his own conclusion. He’d comment if Shinso needed it.
“Meaning either there are other parameters to the exam besides just defeating robots and/or we can use tools to help us defeat the robots for people who’s quirks aren’t suitable for combat against machinery.” – Shinso concluded.
Luciel smiled “Yes, you can use any tools you like as long as you register with the school at least a week prior to the exam.” – he confirmed for Shinso.
Shinso wasn’t annoyed that his silver haired friend neglected to mention that detail, he long since learnt that when Luciel does this, it is to train his deductive reasoning, something Luciel’s father taught him the same way. The faster you can deduce, the faster you can solve problems or find an enemies weakness.
“I have to figure out a weapon to use in the exam, and train with it, preferably something not lethal… At least we have 10 months to train and prepare for the exam” – Shinso commented on the current situation.
“We can figure it out with my dad, being ex-military he has a better grasp on those kinds of things than us at the moment.” – Luciel assured his friend, there’s no need to go through countless weapons and waste time when someone could direct them to the best weapons to complement their physique and fighting style.
“Wow… You’re dad is going to help us train?” – Shinso asked Luciel in awe and slight fear. While he met Luciel’s parents several times, he only trained with Luciel and his father a handful of times. Akabane Karma may be a brilliant teacher and trainer but he is also a huge slave driver. Coupled with Luciel’s stories of how brutal his father’s more serious training was, he’d won a generous amount of fear and respect for the man.
Luciel’s father, Akabane Karma, was a tall man with a slim and muscular frame, he had red hair with pale and sharp mercury eyes. He is a kind and caring person to those he calls friends and family, however to those who he doesn’t know he usually acts cold and dismissive. Many calling him apathetic.
Despite being reasonably young, being only 39 years old, he is retired from the military after having stayed for several years and completed successful missions in a special taskforce designed to go to Japan’s allied countries to help in any raids on big criminal organizations.
Now he stays at home, reading, spending time with his friends and family and training his son to become a hero.
His quirk, explosive touch, allows him to transfer a portion of his energy through his hands into an object, turning the object into a bomb as powerful as a C4 charge that he can detonate on command from any distance. This quirk, along with his tactical mind made him exceptionally effective and dangerous in the military, quickly rising in the ranks until he became captain of the taskforce.
Unlike Luciel’s father, his mother, Grayfia Akabane is a very caring person, she’s incredibly kind to everyone and always has a smile on her face. People jokingly say she is the heart of the household while her husband is the mind.
Grayfia Akabane is a 40 year old beautiful woman with an amazing figure, with fair skin, light violet eyes and long silver hair.
She is incredibly smart, having been a college chemistry professor but later leaving her job when Luciel was born, wanting to be a stay at home mother so she could raise her baby boy due to her husband’s job keeping him out of the country for long stretches of time.
She is very fond of embarrassing Luciel by calling him cute baby names while in public or whenever a friend comes to visit, which is always Shinso.
While Luciel may have inherited most of his personality from his father Karma, no one can deny that All of his looks were inherited from his mother Grayfia.
He didn’t understand how Luciel wasn’t afraid of his dad when he was mad, but was downright terrified of his mother when she got angry. Grayfia Akabane was a sweet woman.
 ____________________________________________

As the months went by Luciel and Shinso fell into a routine. Approved by both boys parents, Shinso would spend 5 days of the week in Luciel’s house to train under Luciel’s father.
Shinso would train in his chosen weapon, it was a Bo Staff that when twisted in a certain way it would break off into a Three-section staff, physical conditioning, marshal arts for if he ever was disarmed, resistance training, pain resistance and combat, either facing Luciel, facing Luciel’s father alone, or both Shinso and Luciel facing Mr.Karma to practice teamwork.
It was hell, in fact, Shinso was sure Mr.Akabane was a sadist, but he couldn’t say it wasn’t productive.
The other 2 days would be spent in his house, one for studying, and the second for resting.
By the end of the first day, all Shinso could do is fall face first into his bed while groaning loudly. Causing Luciel to burst out laughing at his friends misfortune.
“I swear…” – Shinso groaned tiredly with a hint of irritation. “You and your dad are sadists.”
Luciel just laughed harder.
As for Luciel’s training, this time his father didn’t hold back. His training got cranked up to 11 and he had the bruises to show for it.
Since Luciel was in a better physical shape than Shinso. While Shinso was working on his physical conditioning, Luciel was working on his quirk.
Luciel’s quirk, called alchemy, is a very interesting and complex quirk. It is the manipulation and alteration of matter by using his bodies energy, mostly his stamina.
The process is divided into 3 steps.
Step 1 is the understanding of the inherent structure and properties of the atomic and molecular makeup of a particular material to be transmuted, including the flow and balance of potential kinetic energy within.
Step 2 is the deconstruction by using his bodies energy to break down the physical structure of the identified material into a more malleable state so as to be easily reshaped into a new form.
Step 3 is reconstruction, continuing the flow of energy so as to reform the material into a new shape.
But if Luciel so wishes, he can interrupt the process at step 2, this way, as long as Luciel understands the atomic and molecular structure of the object, he can destroy anything he wishes regardless of how durable it may be. A truly terrifying ability, able to bypass any and all types of physical defence.
This quirk is powerful but extremely hard to use, unless you have eidetic memory like Luciel. What would normally take someone years to memorize the atomic components of all objects you can find in a city, it only takes Luciel a quick read.
Alchemy is a quirk based off science and chemistry, as such is subject to certain law and limitations, of all all which fall under the concept of equivalent exchange. In order to gain or create something, something of equal value must be lost or destroyed.
Equivalent exchange is separated into 2 parts.
Part 1 is the law of conservation of mass. Energy and matter can neither be created from nothing, nor be destroyed to the point of elemental nonexistence.
Part 2 is The law of natural providence, an object or material made of a particular substance or element can only be transmuted into another object with the same basic makeup and properties of that initial material.
When Luciel’s quirk awoke, he gained markings in the palm of his hands that can be changed at will into a transmutation circle. There was also a shift in Luciel’s brain, giving him an innate understanding on how each circle needs to be to manipulate the matter, akin to a 6th sense.
Alchemy can only be used with a transmutation circle, whether it be the circles in his palms, a drawn circle in the moment or an etched circle for a permanent use.
Luciel’s training with his quirk revolves around training the speed of the transmutations, his understanding of his quirk so as to be able to transmute matter into the atomic level instead of just molecular, hence turning one element into another, for example transmuting the ground into steel or iron instead of dirt, or turning air into methane gas.
Along with finding new attacks using alchemy.
His latest idea for the exam is using cloth and steel to create ignition cloth gloves, then transmuting the oxygen in front of him to create pathways highly rich in oxygen and methane gas, with a snap of his fingers with the ignition cloth gloves he can ignite the air and create fire attacks capable of destroying robots with one hit.
Needless to say, Shinso was amazed and slightly nervous on how destructive his attack was.
At the end of that day Luciel had to face a very angry Ms.Grayfia, and Shinso understood why Luciel and Mr.Karma were so terrified of her…
Ms.Grayfia is a very sweet woman, but also a very terrifying one.

NA: This is the ending of chapter 1, next chapter will be the entrance exam and the period of waiting before the results.
This chapter changed characters perspective quite often, hopping from Luciel to Shinso several time, this will not be the case in the future, it was just in this chapter because it was an important one for both characters.
Now to address some questions that may come up.
Do not worry about flashbacks being as big as this one was in the future, this one ended up being this big because i wanted to show what prompted Shinso’s change, how he and Luciel became friends and to show Luciel’s true personality to people who he hasn’t befriended.
This is a slightly AU, although most characters will be present, I have taken some liberties in changing some elements from the story that I always felt could’ve been more fleshed out. Most will be addressed in future chapters.
The addition of the confidentiality contract is to keep the exam always the same, this is not due to laziness, this is purely intentional on Nezu’s part. Although students can’t give the specifics of the parameters to pass the exams, they can give a general idea to what’s happening, hence battle and robots in plural. This is Nezu’s way to give an incentive to hopeful students to do research and use deduction to figure out what’s happening in the exams. The rescue points are just common sense, although that seems to be lacking in the MHA universe.
Are you surprised with Luciel’s quirk? If you are familiar with alchemy from FMA then you probably noticed that there are several differences between the original and the one found in this fic. Those were intentional. I wanted alchemy to be a quirk and not just a power that anyone with the right know-how could use, hence several changes needed to be made to facilitate it’s integration.
What did you think about this chapter, did you like it? Did you find all the references I mentioned in the NA at the start. Tell me your thoughts, I’d love to hear them.
Much love! see you next chapter!
