Good morning my ass
Johnny’s Point of View
Ring. Ring. Ring. I opened my eyes and looked at the alarm. 5:45 Ring. Ring. Ring. I stretched out my arm and stopped it. I was too sore. There was no way I was able to go the gym today. Screw it, I’m sleeping in today.
I slept for another couple of hours when suddenly a huge weight was thrown on me and I opened my eyes. What the fuck?
“Wake up. The sun is shining, the birds are singing and big brothers are out to kill me.” Gibsie sang while on top of me.
“Get off me, ya little gobshite.” I screamed. “We’re leaving in a couple hours, I want to sleep.”
“No can do, Joey the hurler texted me and told me to get my pretty bottom over there.” He stated.
“Then tell him you’re busy and you’ll be coming by later.” I replied exhausted. I looked at the alarm clock once again. 9:12 God, why me?
“I’m already on thin ice with this lad, I have no intention of giving him any other reason to beat me up, not after yesterday.” He gave me a glance. “Don’t think I’ve forgotten that you still haven’t told me what happened.”
“I did tell you what happened.” I retorted.
“You gave me a generic excuse.” He pointed out.
“It was a generic occurrence.” I tried. “You know that girl can’t stand me.”
“She’s not a fan of you because she thought you meant to hurt her cousin.” Gibsie reminded me. “And you know she wanted to apologise to you.”
“Then you had to go and ruin it by doing whatever it is that you did.” He concluded. “I wanted her to join our friend group.”
“You’ve been obsessing over that girl ever since you met her last week.” I wondered. “Do you like her?”
“What? No.” He declared. “You know I only have eyes for Claire-Bear.”
“Like that has stopped you from screwing half the female population at Tommen.” I rolled my eyes.
“I have no intention of screwing your sunshine, rest assured.” Gibsie emphasised. “And I didn’t meet her last week, I met her last November at Biddies, during one of the parties you refused to go to.”
“You did?” I asked. “How?”
“Some lad from her school got a little rapisty and I had to drag him off her.” He explained. “Patrick was there too that night, he helped me beat the guy up, though I doubt Maeve remembers him, she looked pretty shaken up.”
“What?” I was seeing red. “Why didn’t you tell me this?”
“Because she made it known to me, in no uncertain terms, that she didn’t want anyone minding her business.” He spoke. “Also, you didn’t even know her name back then. It’s not like I go around telling you of every maiden I save.”
“Every maiden you save?” I gave him a glare.
“There are quite a few of those.” He grinned.
“Who was it?” I questioned him. He knew immediately what I was referring to.
“Paul Rice, apparently Lynchy stole his girlfriend and he wanted to get back at him by fucking his sister.” He exclaimed disgusted. “After a few punches he spilled everything. Don’t worry he got back home with a broken nose and more than a few bruises.”
“Does her brother know about this?” I rubbed my chin.
“I doubt it.” He sighed. “If he did, Paul Rice would be six feet under right now. That lad doesn’t take kindly to someone messing with his family.”
“Alright, get off me.” I pushed Gibsie. “We’re going to Maeve’s house. Tell me the address.”
And maybe we were stopping by Biddies on our way there.
“Why are you making that face.” Gibsie got off the bed.
“What face?” I rolled my eyes.
“Your scary face.” He commented.
“I don’t have a scary face.” I protested.
“Yes, you do.” He responded. “You’re making it right now.”
“Just get ready, Gibs. We’re heading out in fifteen minutes.” I told him and motioned for him to get out of my room so I could prepare.
“You’re not going to kill anyone are you?” He asked.
“No, Gibs.” I assured him. “I don’t even know where the lad lives. I’m just going to make sure he’s not going to bother Maeve again.”

HISTORY ;
born in glasgow on a rainy afternoon, the second child of one of the glasgow royal infirmary's top surgeons, dom was a remarkably average baby. this averageness continued throughout his childhood, school marks just high enough to prevent his siblings taunting him, and extracurriculars — football & piano — only narrowly squeezed in to the family schedule between cormac's maths competitions, aoife's titration competitions and their parents' work.
things changed once dom started university. with aoife still in high school, and cormac having moved out to pursue his own career, there was less competition for their parents' attention, and fewer siblings to be compared to and found lacking. and dom had found something that genuinely interested him — medicine. though it was following in his father's footsteps, he did so at oxford, moving to england for his studies, and thus escaped the shadow of familial achievements.
dom was scouted while at university, a tactical agent recruited from the same faculty having visited to investigate whether there were any promising students. ( the answer to that question was obviously yes, because dom's here, isn't he ? ) it was his first year of the clinical portion of his undergraduate studies, and they saw something in him that they didn't see in others — maybe it was the way he handled patients, or his attitude towards dire situations, or something else entirely. dom doesn't know, and neither does anyone else, but the fact remains that he passed all the training as a junior agent with flying colours, moving to the role of a biomedical agent as soon as he had completed his doctorate.
he was part of the biomedical faction of mercy for fifteen years, something of a legend for his willingness to push the boundaries of what should be possible — all thanks to his mutation of probability perception. knowing what actions will and won't lead to worse outcomes is a very valuable skill in medical fields, particularly when working with an experimental drug such as solaris.
two years ago, dom was moved from the biomedical to the tactical faction of mercy. now, he uses his ability, along with those fifteen years of experience, to strategise and plan missions — as well as reviewing the work of his once-protegés, and investigating potential future recruits.

I sometimes can't handle seeing actors in other roles. I love Line of Duty, massive crush on Kate Fleming and then the recent season had Kelly Macdonald. Almost too much for me. I also loved The Fall because, well, Gillian Anderson as Stella Gibson but then I loved Niamh McGrady as Danielle Ferrington too.
Anyway, who was in both? Tara Lynne O'Neil, better known as Erin's mom Mary Quinn from Derry Girls. Now, that's all I see. Mary Quinn. Oh, Siobhan McSweeney was in The Fall too as part of the investigation team, but yeah. She's only Sister Michael now. Seeing them in other shows screw with my head.

Hozier, Grammy-nominated five-piece Fontaines D.C., Elbow, Pillow Queens, and Rhiannon Giddens are among the line-up for the new season of Other Voices when it makes its return to RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player on March 4th.
The new season of Ireland's longest-running music TV show will also come from new locations, including Cardiff, and Ballina.
The series, presented by May Kay and Huw Stephens, is now in its 19th season and will run for 10 weeks, from March 4th at 11.05pm.
Hozier will kick off the season with an intimate, stripped-back, performance, featuring new string arrangements by Ireland's Crash Ensemble. Viewers can also expect performances from two Choice Music Prize nominated acts - the indie rock four-piece Pillow Queens and singer-songwriter Niamh Regan, both of whom released debut albums in 2020.
Other Voices founder Philip King said: "The Other Voices series coming to you on television this year features a range of truly remarkable performances from Irish artists who opened their hearts and raised their voices in a powerful and emotional musical response to the events of what has been one of the most complex and difficult years in Ireland's history.
"We have been so lucky to have the support of Minister Catherine Martin which has been essential in enabling us to produce Other Voices this year and it is a privilege to work with these amazingly talented and creative artists and with the wonderful crews that make them audible and visible."
The new series will include three special episodes, with Fontaines D.C. performing in Dublin's Kilmainham Gaol, Other Voices regulars live Elbow from Ballina and Dingle, and a special highlight episode of the upcoming Other Voices Cardigan, with performances from rapper BERWYN, post-punk-poet Sinead O’Brien, violinist Aoife Ní Bhriain and more from Cardiff.
Damien Dempsey, renowned folk singer-songwriter Rhiannon Giddens, alt country musician CMAT and For Those I Love - the project of multi-instrumentalist and producer David Balfe -  will also feature in the series.

books, 2020
I don't entirely understand people who can list their books read for a year *including rereads* because, like, I'm rereading a book at every meal, how could I possibly keep track?
I don't actually track what I've read, so this isn't an accurate list, but this is a vague attempt at working out at least some of what I read for the first time in 2020. I'm probably missing things!
The Lady's Guide to Celestial Mechanics (Olivia Waite) The Red Tree (Caitlyn R. Kiernan) Among Others (Jo Walton) The Raven and the Reindeer (T. Kingfisher) All or Nothing (Rose Lerner) Beggars in Spain (Nancy Kress) Starless (Jacqueline Carey) The Handmaid's Tale (Yes seriously I hadn't gotten around to reading it before) In an Absent Dream      Come Tumbling Down (Seanan McGuire) Bittersweet (Nevada Barr) The Girl who Chased the Moon (Sarah Addison Allen) Novice Dragoneer (E.E.Knight) Dragon Whisper (Niamh Murphy) Princess of Dorsa (Eliza Andrews) Silk And Steel (anthology) Starfarers    Transition    Metaphase    Nautilus (it's a series of 4, Vonda McIntyre) The Final Empire    The Well of Acension    The Hero of Ages (Mistborn series, Brandon Sanderson) Through Wolf's Eyes    Wolf's Head, Wolf's Heart (Firekeeper saga, Jane Lindskold) Women of Futures Past (anthology) Sword & Sorceress 11 (anthology) Sword & Sorceress 16 (anthology) The Phoenix Code (Catherine Asaro) Darkness of the Light (Peter David) A Lady of Quality (Frances Hodgson Burnett) Gods of Green Mountain (VC Andrews) Six of Crows (Leigh Bardugo) The Winner's Curse (Marie Rutkoski) Amaskan's Blood (Raven Oak) Looking for Alaska (John Green) Wolf Star (Tanith Lee) The Glass Gargoyle (Marie Andreas) Four and Twenty Blackbirds (Cherie Priest) The Makioka Sisters (Junichiro Tanizaki) The Tea Dragon Society (okay it's more of a picture book but it's cute, Katie O'Neill)
Leaving out a couple that I started and disliked enough to drop, which is rare but sometimes happens. Usually even if the book is bleh I’ll power through to the end and then dismiss the book to the ‘never again’ pile, unlike most of my books which get read over and over again. For that reason there are a couple of books on that list I really wouldn’t recommend and at least one that I hated but it was very short so I wanted to finish in order to be absolutely certain that it was trash before leaving bad reviews. (I normally don’t, if something’s just not for me I leave it alone, but this was THAT BAD.)
My biggest surprise interest was probably the Mistborn series as I’d never read anything by the guy before (and you may notice I have a bias towards female authors) and it’s the kind of fantasy I like, where someone’s put some serious thought into how the magic system and the world actually works - I’ll probably read more later but that wrapped the first trilogy.
My reading list is not terribly "worthy". BUT I READ A LOT.
Also a ton of this was read in ebook format because I have a damaged hand.
Also this doesn’t count VNs!

We are enjoying the music of the women of Celtic music this week on the podcast. There are some who continue to devalue women and strip them of their rights. But this podcast believes strongly that women too need representation. That’s why I play at least one podcast a quarter highlighting the women of Celtic music. And I’ll be honest. That’s not nearly enough.
FairPle is an organization based in Ireland that seeks to achieve gender balance in the production, performance, promotion, and development of Irish traditional and folk music. They advocate for equal opportunity and balanced representation for all. A recent look at the top festivals in Ireland revealed that less than a quarter of all musicians featured at festivals were women. Headliners are even less.
And I get it. Again, I do this feature on women in Celtic music every quarter. That’s not a lot. I hope to increase the number of these shows and to continue to highlight Celtic women. But it’s a tough process with my time constraints. If you have ideas or suggestions or want to help, make something happen, please drop me a line.
And make sure you sign up for the FairPle.com website for more details about the work they are doing.

IFIA Launch Release
Irish Fashion Innovation Awards Launch at the Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa Galway
Designers, fashion enthusiasts, industry representatives and invited guests including the Mayor of the city of Galway Cllr. Noel Larkin attended the official launch for the 2017 Irish Fashion Innovation Awards at the Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa Galway last night. The awards, now in their 8th year are recognised as a launching pad for Ireland’s most talented fashion creatives. This year the awards will take place on March 30th and tickets are on sale to the general public now.
Featuring a range of award categories including Jewellery, Fashion, Accessories, Millinery, Innovation and Student Designer, the awards give visibility, support and a voice to design talent throughout Ireland, offering an unrivalled opportunity for their work to be shown to a jury of fashion design experts.  Previous winners include Carla Johnson, Natalie B. Coleman, Una Burke, Niamh O’Neill, Martha Lynn and Blaithin Ennis.
The success of the awards has led to the addition of multiple events as part of Galway Fashion Week with show producer and Chairperson of the Council of Irish Fashion Design, Eddie Shanahan hosting a series of seminars on Friday 31st March. There will also be a “Bloggers Breakfast” and the Galway Fashion trail on Saturday April 1st.
“Make your Mark for Galway Hospice”, an exciting new design competition in aid of the Galway Hospice was also launched in association with the awards this year. Members of the public aged 16 and over are being called to submit a design (a drawing, illustration or phrase) for a t-shirt that will reflect the ethos of the Galway Hospice. Nine finalists will then be chosen to have their designs modelled on the runway on the night. The overall winner, chosen by the public, will win a mini i-pad and Epson all in one printer courtesy of Galmac and have their design printed on hundreds of t-shirts sponsored by Advertees and sold on the night. All proceeds will go to the Galway Hospice.
Ticket holders can expect a jam packed evening of entertainment including a special after party with Galway Favourites the Amazing Apples. Sponsors for the night include Brown Thomas, Hartmanns of Galway, the Local Enterprise Office,  Standún, the Gate Clinic - Smiles Dental and the Radisson Blu.
