Liam had both a Polaroid camera and a digital one. The Polaroid camera was a gift from his mom and step-dad when he entered high school for the sole purpose of "capturing the memories of a new era" (whatever that means. Liam mostly used it to take stupid photos if him and Mason whenever he could).

It was black and had some paint peeling off and small dents from when he dropped it on his carpeted bedroom floor. He didn't appreciate it then, but he does now that he's a werewolf and is finding that taking photos of all the people that he loves is worth it. It's worth it when he can look back at the pictures and remember the happy memories once upon a time.

The digital camera is new though. It's sleek grey and small, but it does the job well. The photos come out a bit grainy because the camera is kind of old, but there's something nostalgic about the quality and holding a camera in his hand similar to one his parent's had when he was younger that doesn't bother Liam one bit.

He should probably thank his mom and step-dad for sparking this need to snap photos at any opportunity that he can. During the war against the hunters, Liam had taken fewer photos. They were fewer times where he felt truly happy, so his two cameras laid on his dresser for a while.

When Monroe was finally defeated after that day at the hospital, Liam didn't have either camera with him, but he did have his phone. He forced Mason and Corey and Melissa to face towards his phone and made them all smile, which wasn't hard considering they had just won (the smiles were more relieved grimaces but Liam took it as a win).

The next photo would include Theo, who seemed extremely surprised to even be part of a group photo with the others. Nobody batted an eye when Liam grabbed the chimera's wrist and yanked him to his side. He forced Theo to the left of him, making him stand next to Mason, and wrapped his left arm around the chimera's waist. Liam's right hand held the camera horizontally to make sure everyone fit in the frame.

"Make sure to smile, everyone."

The beta printed the two photos when he got the chance, and they're still pinned with thumb tacks on the decently sized cork board hanging in his room above his desk (that his parents got for him when they realized how many photos he took and printed out).

(Nobody knows but when Liam is studying or merely sitting at his desk, his eyes will trace Theo's eyes, nose, lips, everything about the chimera, and his heart will settle down. Add in Theo sleeping down the hall in the guest room, heartbeat loud and steady in Liam's ear when he listens for it, and the wolf in Liam's chest would settle.)

The first time he took a photo with just him and Theo, the chimera wasn't prepared for it. Both of the boys were sitting a bit further from everyone at the McCall house, who were all celebrating Stiles' birthday. The whole pack came back to Beacon Hills from whichever part of the world they ended up and celebrated the occasion.

Obviously, Liam brought his digital camera. (Not that it matters much, but one of the things Liam loved the most about his digital camera was the date being shown at the bottom right of the photo.)

It seemed like the perfect opportunity to take a photo. The air was bright and light, filled with everyone's laughter and smiles. Even Theo sported a small quirk of his lips every once in a while.

His digital camera is in his hands before he knows it. The beta can't help it. Not when the living room lamp light illuminates Theo's face in a soft yellow glow. Not when Theo is holding a paper plate (because using real plates and utensils is too many dishes to clean with a whole supernatural pack) with a slice of cake, and his cheeks are full of the sweet dessert.

Not when... not when Liam thinks he's falling in love with Theo more and more as the night wears on.

He needs to capture this memory now.

Liam shuffles even closer to Theo (even though they were already touching from shoulder to knee) and once again wraps an arm around Theo. The chimera doesn't flinch (hasn't flinched at Liam's touch in months. If anything, Theo leans into it) and doesn't stop eating his piece of cake.

"Smile!"

Theo barely has time to look up at Liam's digital camera, cheeks full with the bite of cake he just inhaled, so he doesn't get the chance to smile, but Liam does. His smile is wide and sincere, and he can't help the blush that stains his cheeks with his close he is to Theo; the way he can smell Theo's scent when he releases just the slightest bit of his chemosignals because he's getting more comfortable with the whole pack (even though he still doesn't fully believe he's part of it no matter how many times Liam reminds him that he is).

"Ugh, Liam! I wasn't even ready for that one. You better not print it out," Theo threatens, pointing his frosted covered fork at Liam. He's glaring at Liam but there's no heat behind it. He merely seems exasperated but fond.

The next photo he takes is of this expression.

(Liam prints both photos out and hangs them in the center of the corkboard, side-by-side. It's his favorite photos to date. That is, until Liam gets a photo of him and Theo on their first date. Then, the photo of him and Theo on vacation with his parents gets put up. And then again, with the photo of Liam and Theo holding up their left hands to the camera with matching silver bands fitted snugly around their ring finger finds its way on the corkboard. It becomes his favorite photo of all.)

Anyway hi. So I have this silly joke I make a lot of Dandy not knowing how to talk to pretty people. Like, they just got not a clue as to how to interact with someone pretty.

That shit so includes Wally. You bet the first time Wally spoke with Dandy, they genuinely didn't even realize he was talking to them. Assumed he must have been talking to someone else, cause why would someone as pretty as him be talking to someone like them??? At least that's how they see it.

Takes them ages to really understand that Wally LIKES their company.

also wrt the boros of it all: i doubt simon planned to stay in boros long-term. truthfully, i don’t think he HAD a plan past smugging river out of the academy and finding a ship to take them Anywhere Else. notable that as simon is finishing his monologue he notes “and then i could take her… wherever.”

which is not to suggest he’s not taking it seriously (i don’t know how anyone could watch the show and make that claim lmao) or that he’s not smart (he’s obviously unfamiliar with the world they’re now in but he Is intelligent and knows that they will like, need to figure something out.) it’s more that there’s really only so much he COULD plan for.

like, getting river OUT of the academy, while by no means easy (and i do in fact think part of him might very well have expected to fail and die as a result) was something that could be more clearly broken up into actionable steps. getting her somewhere else, where they would be safe, is a much different challenge, given that it’s long-term, that they’ve never been out on the rim and have no contacts or resources, and simon isn’t even sure there is such thing as a safe place for them even as he’s telling river they will find one on the pilot. (this is a note in the shooting script but frankly i feel it can be read all over simon’s face in the scene itself bc sean maher is really good at nuanced expressions.)

so, i don’t view the whole not having a plan thing as like, incompetence or anything. my heart actually hurts for pilot!simon specifically if i think about him too much because it’s so clear that, despite how much he loves river and wouldn’t do anything differently, he IS pretty in over his head and doesn’t really know where to go from here. simon not having a plan is indicative his broader emotional state of panic. in the pilot he is Reacting to things happening more than he is actively planning for them. which i don’t think is his preferred mode of functioning - he likes plans and structure and rules - but it’s also the only path he sees towards survival - particularly river’s survival. which is sort of a vicious cycle that i do think is somewhat present in other episodes because that mode of Reacting without necessarily having a guiding map of what to do make him feel helpless. but he can’t feel helpless because then he’ll BE helpless. and he can’t be helpless if he’s going to protect river.
