plotting out the timeline of some of the horrible things that happen to Tim and my god the 2000's fucking had it out for him
Batman #618, Oct '03 - Jason comes back and slits Tim's throat
Robin #129, Oct '04 - Tim's friend Darla gets shot in front of him
Identity Crisis #6, Jan '05 - His dad dies
Batman #634, Jan '05 - Bruce tells him Stephanie's died
Teen Titans #29, Dec '05 - Jason beats him up again in Titans Tower
Infinite Crisis #6/7, May/June '06 - Conner dies
Batman #657, Nov '06 - Damian shows up and tries to kill him
Flash The Fastest Man Alive #13, Aug '07 - Bart dies
Final Crisis #6, Jan '09 - Batman dies
Red Robin #1, Aug '09 - Dick makes Damian Robin
Over the course of 6 years irl, and almost certainly way less time within the comics, Tim just absolutely gets his shit rocked and I'm positive theres stuff that I've left out or forgotten

what would vlad's/dani's reaction be to finding out about dark danny (and im not 100% sure but i think the ultimate enemy comes after kindred spirits)
Tumblr media
POV: you just asked your cousin where he sees himself in 10 years
(The Ultimate Enemy actually takes place well before Kindred Spirits! KS is Vlad's last season 2 appearance, if I'm not mistaken)

one day Charles says something about still being 16. and of course Crystal has to look at him and say all breathy serious
"how long have you been 16?"
and you can hear the audible thud of Edwin putting down his book to give her a look of Disgust.
And she just gives him a look back like 'ah yes, but you knew what i was referencing...'
meanwhile Charles who only kind of paid attention to the twilight movies (when he and edwin watched them once) is looking confused like "since 1989??? when i died?? Crystal you know this"

the fact that one of the few times we see Julian close to crying in DS9 is when he's pointing a gun at Garak, prepared to shoot him, and that the tears are in his eyes before Garak starts being especially horrible to him, is something I certainly think of at times and shall again

i think a core component of the okumura twins relationship is that if you told them before the series what happens in the future, they would worry about each other before themselves
#i stand by this 100%#especially with yukio people act like he actually hates rin#when in reality he spends a lot of time worrying about his safety to his own detriment and to the detriment of him#cuz he thinks about it as an authority figure and not as a peer and he doesnt really know rin that well at this point#hes used to the 'if nothing bad happens he'll be same so if he does nothing nothing will happen' but of course that doesnt work anymore#rin is already a demon hes already an exorcist and yukio cant cope with the fact that bad things have ALREADY happened#and his problem solving method failed and continues to fail that he doesnt know what to do#in terms of rin of course he also has his own problems#rin does this too but more as a brother and less of an authority figure#its more of a 'yukio should have to deal with this so im gonna do it even if it kills me' even tho in this case yukio has more experience#rin needs to keep him safe and to keep him safe he needs to fight the things that threaten his little brother#but that also fails because of yukio's aformentioned experience but also rin's lack of experience#rin knows how to fight bullies but he doesnt know demons but hes still trying even if yukio doesnt want him to#anyway i think its sweet how hard they try for eachother despite being out of their element#and also how hard they're trying to appear like they're not trying to keep eachother safe to eachothers benefit#okumura twins#ao no exorcist#blue exorcist#yukio okumura#rin okumura

Had a really interesting moment at work earlier this week. I was making myself a cup of tea when I suddenly heard from behind me, "Amy!" I turned around and saw three of my colleagues congregating in one colleague's office with the door open. The colleague whose office it was gestured to me to come over, and then said six words that nearly stopped me cold: "We were just whispering about you."
I say it stopped me cold because I have far too many memories of bullies calling my name in the hallway in high school, and never for a good reason. What made it worse was when I could tell that they had just been whispering about me--again, not for a good reason--and started giggling as I approached. But I went over anyway, because I never felt like I couldn't go over to them, even as the knot of dread in the pit of my stomach steadily grew larger. In this case, though, those six words were immediately followed by, "We love your shoes! We were just over here admiring them and how well you match" (as I was wearing teal-colored heels that happened to coordinate with a sweater of a nearly identical color I had on).
I still don't think I managed to relax from that instinctive freezing feeling until my mind and body had fully processed the interaction afterward, but at least it all worked out well...

elden ring attracting so much attention from audiences that usually wouldn't touch a fromsoft game has been so annoying when it comes to discussions about its story.
like maybe ironic considering grrm was involved in the writing this time, but the response to elden ring & specifically SOTE feels very similar to what happened with game of thrones, where the story is pretty explicitly about the dangers & violence & cruelty inherent in certain systems of power, and 95% of the audience response is to look at that & be like "wow i hope my fave character gets to be the good ruler who fixes everything because they're so cool & nice :D"

Hey! So I've been following you since you posted a lot about good omens in 2019ish? I remember you talking about wing fics vividly, but I just want to ask:
How are you doing after season 2?
Good! I enjoyed season 2, and I look forward to seeing how things resolve in season 3.
I think there are a lot of folks upset about various things, for various reasons, a lot of which boil down to "the season didn't go how I wanted it to/thought it should go" or "the season didn't end wrapped up neatly like S1 did." Neither of which, imo, are fair judgments of a season that a) isn't that person's story and b) was meant to be a bridge not an ending. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, of course, and to their feelings, but I do wonder how many have taken honest assessment of those feelings and opinions.
In my opinion, it's unfair to claim a story is bad JUST because it didn't do what you wanted it to do. It's not a bad story just because characters didn't act how you predicted or wanted, either. Some of the responses I've seen hinge almost entirely on "but canon didn't do what fanon/I decided is best" usually with the caveat of "before I even saw the season" and that's... ignoble at best. It's fair to criticize poor storytelling, but I feel like you have to have the whole story, or most of it, to do that, and we don't have that. We're actually smack in the middle of the story, by my judgment.
This season was never meant to be The Whole Story, we have known for a long time that there is a season 3 planned (whether or not it's ever able to come to fruition is a separate issue, it has been planned since a long time ago). As such, I don't think it's fair at all to the story to be angry that the season didn't stop at a nice, neat, happily-ever-after, because this isn't the end of the story.
To quote one of my favorite authors, Peter S. Beagle: "Things must happen when it is time for them to happen. Quests may not simply be abandoned; prophecies may not be left to rot like unpicked fruit; unicorns may go unrescued for a very long time, but not forever. The happy ending cannot come in the middle of the story."
They cannot have a happy ending until they've fixed the problems, and even before the end scene there, problems abounded. The unicorns are still unrescued. It's still the middle of the story.

people love an "i'll take care of you" "it's rotten work" "not to me, not if it's you" character dynamic until the character who needs to be taken care of is disabled. then it's supposedly fucked up and toxic for a person to have to take care of someone else.
#eliot posts#this is continuing off that last post i reblogged#that time i was like ''aw tumblr is out of new posts for this character i like. reddit is empty too. lemme check twitter''#BIG MISTAKE#i had to see the hot take of#''it's fucked up to ship this because character A had to be character B's caretaker. that's basically slavery.''#LIKE BRUH???#have you. ever met a couple where one of them is disabled and needs a caretaker? bc that's a very real thing that happens and it's not toxi#honestly usually the risk in those situations is the power the caretaker nay have over their disabled partner#but that imbalance can be properly navigated#and is not a concern in these two characters' case bc there is a very clear mutual respect there#caregiver fatigue is a real problem too of course but that's ALSO something that can be successfully navigated#and in these particular characters' case doesn't seem like it would be an issue because like#character b also has professional caretakers who will likely continue to be part of his life if needed#(and the money to hire more if not)#like it's okay to not like the ship#maybe the age gap of someone in their 20s w someone in the equivalent of their 30s squicks you out#maybe you monogamously ship one or both of them w someone else#maybe you think their dynamic is way more interesting from a platonic angle than from a romantic one#maybe you just aren't interested in their dynamic#those are all fair points! i'm not even ride or die for that ship myself#but jesus fucking christ you don't gotta be ableist about it#oh or the equally bad take i saw on there of#''character a could never be attracted to character b. he just sees char b as a sick dying old dog that he needs to take care of''#like no! character a clearly respects and values character b! they are friends! the issue is just that YOU see character b as a dying dog.

tim rejecting kon as robin because he believes kon already rejected tim and so would be disappointed once he finds out....this is the worst ending yet...i love it....
(this scenario) listen, tim is so smart and strategic and logical and also (especially post-breakup/misunderstanding) would plan for every single outcome except the one where he is actually wanted
