you don't have to be vegan to make little changes that help your health and also the environment in teeny ways. you can be a "cheater vegetarian" and eat meat at restaurants. you can be "vegan-ish" and avoid animal products for "the most part." you can make no changes except switch dairy milk for almond or soy or whatever. you can cut down your land meat consumption and go for fish instead. you can do any of these things. or none of them. it is up to you

but my point mainly here is that vegans who try to force an all or nothing mindset when it comes to plant based eating aren't helping advance their cause. at all.

i feel like being a guy who loves fighting so much while living in a sugar plum soft world gets really boring (outside of the occassional intergalactic threat) if you feel the need to beat up a gorilla 30 fucking times. like what's the deal man? are you getting enough enrichment in your enclosure? do you wish you were in dark souls? could you maybe leave the local wildlife alone for a bit?

Every time I see anti-vegan takes on this website it always presents veganism as this crazy extreme thing, and then presents animal husbandry as their kindly old lady neighbour that has one cow and a little chicken coop with all the ameneties as if vegans don't generally talk about... Systemic issues.

As if eating meat like is done these days is actually good for the environment and you're detached from the oppression in the global south, as if soy for animal feed isn't shipped just as much and produced in the same places you blame vegans for getting their food.

it's a difficult position to be in as an environmental scientist and a leftist, and i always try to stay aware of how in the us especially there's a reflexive backlash to this kind of language but: some of yall are fucking delusional about what a sustainable future looks like, and refuse to acknowledge the fact that some of the creature comforts americans have grown used to need to go away. Public transit systems usually kind of suck but it's better than cars. We need to be building a lot more kind of shitty apartments and a lot less private homes. You are setting the AC too damn low. And the entire agriculture and food economy is grossly distorted because people love eating meat and fruit out of season.

as much as i hate uther, i don’t believe him to be homophobic. him and gaius definitely experimented when they were younger. i think it much funnier that uther doesn’t care that merlin’s a boy. yeah sure he’s a little stuck on the class difference (why on earth would arthur go for a servant???). but the thing that really sets him off, has him spitting with rage, is the sorcerer part.

Being brought up on a farm and only ever going back indoors to head right back out again for my whole life, the decreasing amount of insects has been extremely noticeable and it's been going on for years. Of course it's been worrying with the climate catastrophe, and once I became a beekeeper and learned more about my village's local flora it became even more glaring.

So imagine my surprise this year when there are more insects than I can count. Sitting on my porch (practically my room during summers) I'm noticing species I haven't seen since I was at least a young teenager, and there are more butterflies of different varieties than I even remember from my childhood!

There are so many bees flying around too, probably from the hives down by the old homestead buildings by the church and school, owned by the woman I know from the local beekeeper's association.

What's more is that this year there has been no drought OR flooding, so there are a lot more flowers blooming for longer, and everyone in my village as well as the surrounding villages are reporting a burst of activity in their hives... as well as higher activity from the wild bees and pollinators. For the first time in years it's starting to resemble the way it was when I was younger.

All that is to say, the climate catastrophe is real, and in my area it's causing a lot more violent thunderstorms... but oh my god all this reminds me why I persist despite the despair that tries to dig its claws in.

I may not be able to do major change on a global scale, but you can bet me and everyone here will at least try and support this little place. We can keep going in the fight against the municipality that wants to urbanize at the cost of our precious biodiversity, and we can continue to fight to keep out the cities that tries to enroach on us and get closer.

It is rare for villages in Götaland to remain this free from urbanization despite being nestled right in the middle of multiple major cities, and there's no excuse to destroy what little there is left of it down here in the south.
