Cursed Drabble meta post because i cant help myself sometimes

while i dont think i nailed the vibe for the tumblr reader x celebrity self-insert fan fiction (mainly because i just Could not get through a single fic without dying of cringe. im sorry i do not vibe with this genre in the slightest for reasons that are probably evident in how i wrote that fic) and its probably more wattpad / quotev fanfic tier, i think i did pull off the standard tropes for those sorts of fics

like how the self-insert is supposed to be a blank slate for anyone to, well. self-insert into, but they're always very obviously written to be (cis) women. and the author can't decide if they want their self-insert to be meek and easily smitten, or sassy and genre-aware, as well as simultaneously living the fantasy of having a glamorous lifestyle that people would be jealous of, but she's also totally just an ordinary girl you guys. see, she's got average looks!

and also the combination of fulfilling the fantasy of 'what if my dream man saved me from a scary situation like gross dudes hitting on me', and the fact that the love interest is... often not written that much better than the bad guys lmao. the 'i saw you from across the room and immediately fell in love and wanted to protect you because you are so beautiful' seems to be popular in self-insert fics from what i skimmed through, but a lot of the time the dudes always come across as creepy to me. but in this fic sharle is using french terms of endearment so clearly he is sexy and romantic and not also a weird sleaze, duh

i died the most writing every single piece of sharle's dialogue but also the descriptions talking about how hot he is, btw. the line about the reader imagining his hands choking someone and them smelling his intoxicating scent in his bedsheets both made me want to hurl LMFAO props to people who can write that shit, id rather swan dive off a cliff thanks (tho the hand focus is also due to me listening to that read-through of the foxhole court and the video essayist mentioning how often the characters in that story grabbed each other by the chin. i was just like 'ok yeah i need more hand stuff in this people eat that shit up')

the warnings at the start are there solely because when i was scrolling through the tumblr tags for reader self-inserts i saw quite a few that warned for swearing which i thought was funny since like. this is a 13+ website. you can say the fuck word here and not get in trouble. apart from the cringy dialogue i wouldnt say anything in the fic actually merits a warning, but i felt like i needed to add the other stuff to keep it true to the formatting style that is common for tumblr self-insert fic

the bit with ropikk at the end definitely breaks the illusion and probably turns the fic into some 'lol well that just happened' marvel '''humour''', but tbh i just wanted to include a 'he would not fucking say that' joke and needed to write a palate cleanse LMAO you can pretend that last paragraph doesn't exist if you dont like the immersion-breaking

but i guess today with social media where we can glimpse these people's lives, our fantasies become more 'possible' and the real-not real balance gets thrown out of whack. honestly i think it either spoils the fantasy (oh no theyre human after all) or it makes people believe they could actually be friends with celebs (because theyre human! yay!)... and like, yeah, technically, but when i see people saying 'i just need to meet them and we'd be besties' it always makes me cringe, because parasocial relationships make people forget that relationships really really are two-sided. and your fav celeb might just not... like you that much. or they might just be a bit boring irl for more than the length of a tiktok video lol.

idk, i've worked in jobs where i've met a fair share of celebs i admire from many different fields, and its amazing, the difference between idea of them and the presence they have in person. after that i decided i didnt like to meet my heroes because the imbalance felt so weird to me.

so maybe your friend knowing this guy was gay, it ruined her balance of real-not real make believe. whereas i assume you, knowing you were having gay crushes on straight dudes from a young age (</3), probably had this self awareness and so your fantasies hinged on something other than possibility. did you also like any celebs who were rumoured about, like prince or bowie? as i recall there was some ambiguous sexuality in the 00s alt scene, but who knows how much was for show? (mcr springs to mind)

Yeah, I definitely think it's very common across the board for a lot of people that once something interferes with their fantasy, it just breaks them a little. Which I always just find so odd because celebrity crushes are so far from reality so why does it matter so much?? Absolutely different if it's someone you know irl, you're into them, and then you either find out they have a SO, they're not sexually compatible, or they just... don't want you haha. Add a very thick layer of 'they'll never want you' to celebrities because while yes, famous people do get with non famous people, you crushing on someone famous as you go about your day to day normal life is a lot different than a random encounter that is so rare it's not even worth mentioning as logic to this situation. People get upset when they find out the celeb they like is dating someone. Or they come out. Or whatever. The make-believe really warps some people. (This could be a whole discussion on the rabid Mlvn fan issue, as a meltdown on the verge due to their ship sinking and their ideal fantasy world centered on Mike/El crumbling down, breaking their brains)

For example, I've made it pretty clear I have a big gay embarrassing crush on Finn. What does it matter though haha I will never meet that man. Don't want to, and I'm also very happy and smitten and secure in my personal life. It's just normal human attraction. Talent and being hot is appealing. I'm just a random fan. Same as everyone else! I could talk for hours about the parasocial epidemic but you said enough so I'll let that one sit. Also, I don't think I'd like him less if it turns out he's straight. Still follow his career. Still think he's fine as hell. I'll just probably like him more if he's on this side. That's my honest take.

And totally sad for kids that their peers and people older than them are promoting this thought-crime culture that it's weird or wrong to fantasize about other people, especially those older. hannie probably has that fond look on his face everytime you interact w his kid. i imagine that the kiddo might have a bit of a mischievous streak like their dad, but they always behave so well with you (maybe bc they adore you) and he loves how patient you are. he probably works a lot so it honestly already feels like the three of you are a family when he comes home to see you and his kid just chillin.

shua imo pushes back on those feelings. his kids still young and at first he was worried about what introducing a new person into their lives would mean. but honestly i think he’d be tucking them into bed and they’re like so when are u gonna marry them 😇 and he gets flustered as hell over it. but its comforting to be around you and to hear you dote on both him and his kid. you have the key/code to his place, so it always feels very domestic to come home to you making dinner while his kids playing with their toys. really gives him that “honey, im home” moment imo. probably fully gives in and accepts his feelings when you see how tired he is and offer to put the kiddo to bed before maybe busting out the wine and relaxing w him for a bit, and the way his kid gets excited at the idea of you reading them a story. it just shows him how important you are to both him and his kid.

jun i think also denies it a little at first, but way more half-heartedly bc man KNOWS hes got it bad for you. why wouldnt he? he sees the way his kid squeals with delight when you come visit because you always bring both of them a little something (typically just a candy, but he’ll never forget the day you splurged and got his kid that toy they’d pointed out when the two of you went out for a nice walk while he was working). he loves how much you think about him and his kid, and it just feels like you naturally came into their lives. he decided he was going to wait, but if his kid loves you and you love both of them and he loves you… then why bother waiting? his kid absolutely plays matchmaker btw and hes like its genetic i guess 😔

i think minghao is another person who pushes back on his feelings tbh. he just assumes he’s infatuated with you bc he hasnt dated in a while and ur nice to him AND his kid. you come over to check on them both when hes not working and you take care of them while he Is, so he sees you often enough.he probably offers to make/buy dinner for the both of you to make up for u having to take time to watch his kid, and you accept often enough that it feels weird to not have you around when he’s not working. he probably asks his friends if they think it’s okay to like... start dating someone if your kid already knows them and likes them, and every single one is like “oh, someone like [you]?” because they just Know.

What we can gather:

Most frequently he does a faint/thin/quick smile, which often appear to just be polite and not genuine. These are usually towards lords and other people of his status as well as the general public, in whose presence he would be cautious/controlled about showing emotions (both genuine and not genuine ones; the smile at Mance' lyrics for example could be genuine, but it is still controlled due to being in a public setting).

He smiles/chuckles a lot in his dinner with Jaime in aSoS; This makes it seem like he is in good spirits to have found Jaime (whose return is a great political tool), but also tries to be polite to him and make a good impression (offering him food as well, etc)

He smiles while showing his teeth two times; both PoV's that witness it (Arya and Theon) find it strange and barely qualifiy it as a smile. Since for many people showing teeth is a sign of an open, real smile, and these teeth smiles seemingly contrast his usual controlled smiles, one might argue these two scenes show him smiling openly/genuinely; as opposed to when hes acting polite or emotionally controlled. Notably both smiles are when he's only in the presence of people who are his underlings and that he appears to see no danger in (Qyburn, "Nan" and "Reek"), so he would not have to act as emotionally controlled as usual.

His only actual "laugh" (a wording that also implies it's genuine) is in reference to the miller's wife story, showing his general callousness and immoral personality. Specifically he appears to laugh at Ramsay's naivety and his childlike desire to imagine a positive relationship between his parents; he has a generally low opinion of Ramsay, who is very driven by emotion and has a sometimes naive outlook on the world, which Roose often chides him for.

Generally, a lot of the things he smiles about are mean or immoral (like sending out Harrion Karstark to die only to say "i hope nothing ill befell him at Duskendale").

Roose also has a sense of humour and is sometimes seen making jokes. These are also often mean or immoral. ("Jaime Lannister sends his regards."- aSoS)

I could not find a reference to Roose smiling "without reaching his eyes", which is a description seen in reference to characters like Littlefinger and Ramsay sometimes. Perhaps, since Roose is generally regarded as emotionless/creepy, it just wouldnt stand out if the smile doesn't reach his eyes, since his face so frequently is a mask anyways. Notably, while there are a lot of references to his eyes being "empty" and guarding his emotions very well ("Pale as morning mist, his eyes concealed more than they told." - aSoS), it also appears as if when he slips, his eyes are the first to betray his true emotions in his controlled face ("Theon Greyjoy saw a look in his pale eyes that he had never seen before—an uneasiness, even a hint of fear." - aDwD); There are for example also several descriptions of him looking "amused" without a smile being described, which implies the amusement could be seen in his eyes.

Obviously these are all just guesses, since we have no insight into his actual thoughts due to his lack of PoV chapters! These are just some things i noticed, but that might also be interpreted differently.

GOSH.... ayato omg idk what's wrong with me. a few weeks ago i said i wasn't going to be pulling for him to save some primos for kazuha's rerun. and by all means, from what i saw from leaks and stuff ayato looked super super cool!! just wasn't really what i needed +++ i wasn't immediately smitten with his character design, and i think that is my own fault for having such high expectations for literally monthsss before his release.

but then. oh no. oh god. i played his story quest.

wait. was he always this handsome? with quite the character to boot. can't lie, my type in fictional men are ironically tend to share the common traits of being cunning, smart, strong, handsome, rich, elegant, and PARENTLESS LMAO (diluc.... yeah.) ayato pretty much checked out a lot of those traits and i was like oh my gijrfjjwfjsjfd???????????

i was steadfast in my decision not to pull, i am capable and i will resist the temptations of this man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!........................ and then. the fanfics started coming out.

and this is why i love the genshin fanfic writing community so so much. they expand the characters into different situations and scenarios and they are SO good and it makes you fall more in love with a character and that is exactly what happened to me.... so i pulled for him aHHHHH

and omg about AYAKA. i freaking love the kamisato siblings and their relationship so much. that promotional video of ayaka getting her vision literally made me want to cry it was so good... the way ayato looks lovingly at his sister with pride and joy GAHHHHHHHHH they do something to me... i really want her too but i dont think i can afford to pull anymore ;o; so we are on the same boat right now, and we must stay strong sherry!!!! kazuha will come!!1.... soon... i hope.. hah :,]

i've actually had a little idea festering in my mind these past few days regarding ayato... new fic incoming?!?!?! set in the canon genshin universe but reader is arranged to marry ayato for political and/or convenience reasons. ayato and reader never meet before the arranged marriage, but when reader gets the proposal, they are embarrassingly quick to accept. i mean, it's the kamisato ayato. who wouldnt!

still, reader foolishly thought it wouldnt be a completely loveless marriage........ that is, until they realize they never see ayato since the day they were wed. he is always busy dealing with other matters and can never find the time to build the relationship between them. it is a sad marriage, but reader stands tall and takes their position as the yashiro commissioner's spouse very seriously. they get a lot of things done............. an encounter happens where reader confronts him about his absence. sum talks happen then their relationship slowly evolves.. and that's as far as i have thought about thus far!!!

+++ i’m also thinking of titling it “drawing our moments” as they go through the process of being an arranged wedded couple :D
