sam and cas are so... they're like brothers-in-law that are always slightly awkward bc their relationship only exists bc of a different person. and the first few seasons getting to know each other they keep getting pissed off if they exchange more than a few words ("he's an abomination", "i'll hunt you down and kill you", etc) but there's still somehow an inherent admiration there (bc that's Dean's Brother/that's An Angel). and eventually they do become some sort of actual friends. bc along with everything else. they realized that they can be bitchy to each other without toning it down and enable each other's most insane ideas.

compared to sam+dean and cas+dean's relationships, sam+cas are remarkably unaffected by everything that happens. they might have seasons long fights or plots with dean, but with each other they're always just kinda chill. like, yeah, course he's always gonna be there. we're friends and i don't actually like him that much but he is my 2nd closest family member in the world. he can be super annoying but i'd die for him in a heartbeat :)

kawkab al-hawa happens to sit by belvoir castle, one of the best-preserved crusader castles in palestine. the village itself had been testified to in some shape or form from antiquity - the crusaders had referred to the village with the frankish name "belvoir", hence the name of the castle. after saladin retook it, the village as we know it today expanded into and around the castle's confines. by 1945, the castle had been in ruins for centuries, while the rural village housed 300, mostly farmers.

i saw this tweet and found it interesting for two reasons. one is that some people base how good cartoon network would be to toh by how it treated su, and despite the fact that su’s treatment by the network was considered poor at the time, now its thought to be exceptionally good in comparison to modern shows.

two is how exactly su got impacted by a limited budget. a common criticism is how characters like connie, peridot, and lapis are left out of missions. but balancing a lot of characters is not only hard but also costly (extra animation, extra voices—it’s been revealed that the show is limited to a set number of characters per episode otherwise they’re over budget). animation mistakes are not uncommon since retakes cost extra. the entire reason the original show got cut short was due to loss of funding!

thinking abt how satoru is one of the only adults in the jjk universe who can separate the child from the situation/cards they are dealt with… yuji took in sukuna as a host and he’s the only adult who sees yuji as a child/his own human being while other adults see him simply as “sukuna’s host” who needs to die. thinking abt how satoru was also one of the only adults who stepped up for yuuta and that’s one of the reasons yuuta appreciates him so much… same with when he took in megumi. at the end of the day gojo satoru is the only one in the universe that knows what it’s like to be used/seen as a weapon or Entity rather than a person and he won’t let his kids feel the same way/he’ll do everything in his power to make them feel better & actually LET them be children!

tgcf book spoilers, but one mu qing and xie lian snippet that I think about a lot is this one, at the start of xie lian’s second banishment when he’s surprised to hear mu qing being described as generous and kind:

I think it just really goes to show 1) how deeply mq’s actions truly affected xl and what he thought of him, but also 2) just how different mq and xl are fundamentally in the way that they think and approach things.

I don’t have a lot of commentary on xl that hasn’t already been said, but bc we get the story from xl’s pov, we see a lot of mq’s actions being framed as selfish or suspicious (which is fair, bc again, we know how much his actions hurt xl), but we also see a lot of misconstrued kindness, like in book 8 where it’s revealed that he knocked out fx in order to save him. it’s also pretty obvious how much mq still cares abt xl, with how quickly he volunteers as fu yao and the lengths he goes to protect him when he deems hc a threat, so I also think it’s very likely that mq leaving the trio first was exactly what he said it was — that he thought becoming a junior official, ascending quickly, would be the best way to take care of not just his mother, but also xl, fx, the king and queen, and himself, and so in a way, him leaving was him acting on his kindness. but ofc it doesn’t work out, and he spends the next 800 years fighting w/ fx about it, defending himself, his decisions, and his kindness, and nitpicking the accuracies of his statues while he himself remains completely misunderstood by the two people he probably cares abt the most.

and idk, I guess I just think that’s probably a really lonely way to spend 800 years.

The popular concept of Usopp being the one to taste Sanji's food and new recipes all the time is actually so interesting to me.

I think it makes so much sense that Sanji goes to Usopp of all people because, despite being our liar™, Usopp is the most honest of all of them when he has to be. But it's not only the fact that he's honest (because if Sanji wanted honesty he would go to anybody else) but that Usopp's words, at first, wouldn't hurt Sanji.

It's not just the way Usopp talks to him (genuinely and gently and without hiding hatred Sanji feels everybody must feel for him if he isn't of service) but also that, at first, Usopp's opinion is not that crucial to Sanji. Nami giving him a bad feedback, no matter how gently, would break Sanji's heart. Luffy doesn't seem to care about what Sanji cooks, but if he didn't like it, it would destroy Sanji. Zoro's opinion doesn't matter in the slightest and he would never go to him but if he ever did, a bad review would only start a fight and it wouldn't be productive at all.

And then there's Usopp. Sweet, honest (ironically enough) Usopp. If he doesn't like something he won't complain or be rude about it and he will try to be careful with the words he chooses for Sanji, because he knows too, as an artist, how much bad feedback can hurt sometimes. So Sanji trusts him with his new recipes and ideas because he knows Usopp won't hurt him.

This makes me think, though, of a point in their relationship where Sanji starts caring about what Usopp might think. And perhaps that's what makes him have the "oh. Oh" moment of realization about his feelings for Usopp. But everything is a disaster because he ends up pushing Usopp away every time he offers to taste his food and Sanji starts being just a little bit too anxious every time Usopp eats what he prepares.

They end up fixing things up, right? With Usopp telling him he has nothing to worry about because he will always like what he prepares, and if he doesn't, he will be right by his side to help him find the perfect solution to his food. Usopp doesn't tell him he's always the one to help him with his artist's block because every time he runs out of ideas, he draws Sanji, but he hopes Sanji can assume he will always be of help too.
