I just spent a few days in London for the Glory and the Beast concert and like. I know I made jokes about "eww London" but like
Holy fuck. London is so nice to get around. Hop on the tube for like £2 and go the whole way across it in like five minutes by just tapping your phone against two booths, no questions asked. Hop on the bus for like £1 and do the same around Kentish Town and Camden for the whole day. It costs like £16 just to get into Belfast and then getting around it at all is absolutely fucking miserable.
Fucking hells, London's public transit might just be the best I've ever experienced. Translink get your act together.

Scalan Names
So something I've noticed about Missing Link is the names. It's very interesting that they're Roman myth names when the rest of the times we've seen Scala, we've only seen Scalans having Norse names. Especially since we have characters like Freya, whose name does come from Norse Myth, walking around with characters like Remus (and Neptune). I doubt Nomura did this on accident, so I'm curious about the implications of the Norse vs Roman names in Missing Link.
So I went back through Dark Road and Union X and gathered up all the characters with mythological names (yes this includes Missing Link beta content and theorizing). It's a long post, but stay tuned for the end where I've thrown all my Remus thoughts:
Skuld
Tumblr media
So in Norse Myth, Skuld is a Norn. Specifically, the Norn of the future. The Norns also closely resemble the Fates from Greek myth, which is interesting. I find it really interesting that Skuld is named specifically after the Norn of the future when her game takes place in the distant past. Obviously all the Union Leaders travel to the future--so why is Skuld the only one named after a myth figure that specifically has to do with that? I can't wait to see how this all lines up later, since so far we've only had one game with her in it.
Baldr
Tumblr media
He's the important guy, both in Myth and in Dark Road. In myth, he's the son of Odin that's deceived and killed by Loki, however it is Hod who deals the fatal blow. I feel like his name lines up with his myth inspiration very nicely--he's tricked by darkness, which ultimately leads to his death. However, one really interesting thing is that Baldr is said to survive Ragnarok, so does that mean we'll be seeing Baldr again someday?
Bragi
Tumblr media
So Bragi is interesting. In myth, he's actually a poet who was diefied as the god of poetry. He's also known for his wisdom. The really interesting thing though is that myth Bragi's wife, Idunn, had a tree with the apples of youth, which keep the gods from aging. Really interesting that Dark Road's Bragi is actually Luxu, a guy who does not die... Clues lying in plain sight, really.
Vor
Tumblr media
There really isn't much to find about Norse Myth's Vor, other than Vor was a minor goddess of wisdom. I just think it's cool that Vor's name is based off of a goddess of wisdom, since Vor's whole arc in Dark Road is figuring out who's right and what she wants to do.
Hermod
Tumblr media
So in Norse myth, Hermod is the messenger god and a son of Odin. He also uses magic. In one particular myth, Hermod tried to rescue Baldr from the underworld, but ultimately failed. He has other myths where he acts like a messenger too. I don't really have much to say about Hermod's name inspiration and how it ties to Dark Road, but it is interesting how Hermod dies immediately after visiting the Underworld trying to find Baldr.
Urd
Tumblr media
I... I have the least to say about her (at least about the main DR cast). In myth, Urd is a fate like Skuld, but she's the fate of the past. It's just weird she's named after the fate of the past and not the present. Or maybe not since this game is technically Xehanort's past...
Odin
Tumblr media
Can you tell he was based off of Odin? He has the long beard, he's old, he's got a long coat, and a wide-brimmed hat (those are how Odin is usually represented). In myth, Odin is the god of war and also poets. He's got a horse named Sleipnir and was a magician. I know there are also theories floating around about Yen Sid potentially being Master Odin and honestly? Yen Sid fits the description.
Heimdall
Tumblr media
In myth, Heimdall is the protector of the rainbow bridge and the entrance to Asgard. He also had heightened senses and didn't need to sleep. He and Loki actually ended up killing each other in myth as well. I have even less to say about the upperclassmen, honestly, especially ones like Heimdall who are only in a few scenes anyways. It is ironic that Heimdall was killed by darkness, though (and darkness, in my eyes, takes up a very Loki-like roll).
Helgi and Sigrun
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm merging these two since their myths are very connected. So basically, Helgi was a Norse hero figure that is the son of Sigmund. He fell in love with a woman named Sigrun and ends up getting killed by her brother, Dragr. Sigrun eventually dies of sadness, but both she and Helgi are reborn. Sigrun is reborn into a Valkyrie named Kara whereas Helgi gets to keep his name. It's very interesting that their myths have aspects of reincarnation tied to them, which isn't true for any of the other DR characters. It's also very curious that Sigrun got a new name... and DR Sigrun looks like Strelitzia...
But that's just a theory a--
Vala
Tumblr media
So Vala isn't an actual mythological figure, though they do show up in myths a lot. Basically, a vala is a priestess/shaman. In myth, they could use magic, see the future, and influence battles. I don't have much to say about Vala despite her being one of the more interacted with members of the upperclassmen, but she does appear to be the most wise/level-headed of the group.
Vali
Tumblr media
I could have sworn Vali was a girl but Vali is, indeed, a guy in Dark Road. Anyways, in myth Vali is the son of Odin who was born to avenge Baldr and killed Hod. Vali does survive Ragnarok as well. It's just interesting how he has a reverse to his myth inspiration, considering be dies to Baldr and Darkness, though he does try to avenge Hod's death.
Hoder
Tumblr media
The blind god of the night in Norse myth and son of Odin. Hod was actually tricked into killing Baldr and so was told by the other gods to avenge Baldr's death by fighting Vali. Vali won, Hod died, but when Ragnarok happened, both Hod and Baldr returned and survived Ragnarok. Very interesting implications when it comes to Kingdom Hearts...
Vidar
Tumblr media
In myth, he's the son of Odin and was also fated to survive Ragnarok. He killed the wolf Fenrir, who's Loki's son who ate Odin. That's about all that's known about Vidar from myth. I do think it's very ironic that DR Vidar died to a Heartless when his myth inspiration killed Fenrir. Also interesting that his is the name of someone fated to survive Ragnarok despite him dying in DR...
Sigurd
Tumblr media
I nearly forgot him but here he is! His name in myth is Siegfried. He's a hero figure who fought a dragon and awakened a valkyrie from sleep. In some stories, he's of noble blood but was an orphan. He's also associated with the ancient Germanic princess, Brunhild, who had Old Norse origins. Basically the story of Brunhild is that she vowed to marry the man who could beat her in strength, and Siegfried was able too, but he won her for another person. Brunhild got vengeful, and Siegfried died. Not every story of Brunhild leads to his death though.
He's a lot more interesting than I thought, especially for a character who shows up for like 2 lines in Union X's secret ending lol. Likelihood is, he's from another Society or the people in charge, and he welcomed Brain in Scala ad Caelum (this we know). Judging from his myth and what we already know about him, he's likely of noble or blue blood and is probably a Keyblade wielder. I wonder if we'll see any grand feats like fighting a dragon or if he'll die in Missing Link, though?
Freya
Tumblr media
I can't really say much for Freya either since she's so new and her game isn't even out yet. She is the sister of Freyr in Norse Myth and is the goddess of love, fertility, battle, and death. So just keep in mind that she's an option for the tragic siblings trope.
Now for the really interesting guys!
Nept
Tumblr media
I've decided to start with Neptune since Remus is a whole can of worms. So Neptune is the Roman god of the sea, and used to be just the god of freshwater until the Romans identified him with Poseidon. His myths are the same as Poseidon's: get eaten by his dad, get vomited out, draw sticks to see which realm he gets, yada, yada, yada. He was loyal to the Roman Zeus, Jupiter, and married Salacia, though he had many affairs. He also created horses and bulls!
We really don't know much about Nept since he only has a few released scenes so far, but the fact that he's probably named after the Roman god of water is interesting (i've said it before but Aqua's ancestor??? Perhaps???). I'm a little worried about the loyalty aspect though...
Remus
Tumblr media
This. This fucking can of worms. Remus do you even know the implications of your own name?
So the myth of Remus and Romulus! Their mother, Rhea Silvia, was the daughter of the king of Alba Longa, Numitor. Numitor got removed from the throne by his brother, Amulius, who forced Rhea to take a vow of chastity by becoming a Vestal Virgin. Well she ended up having the god of war's, Mars', twin children: Remus and Romulus. They were cared for by Mars' sacred animals (she-wolf and woodpecker) and taken in by farmers, Faustulus and Acca Larentia. When the twins grew up, they killed Amulius and restored their grandfather to the throne. The twins then went on to found a city, and after Romulus built some walls around it, he killed Remus, and the city was named Rome after Romulus.
So this myth is interesting for a number of reasons. First and foremost: the siblings thing. Tragic siblings being a staple of the KH mobile games and all leaves Remus and Romulus perfect candidates for being the tragic siblings. This is also why I'm so worried about Remus being late to showing Player the Astral Realm because--is he already dead? His mythological self dies! It's practically written in the Book of Prophecies at this point!
However the second most important thing about the Remus and Romulus myth is how Remus and Romulus are the grandsons of a king who got overthrown. What if, somehow, the Baroque Society is the very last remnant of Ephemer's line/society? Somehow, what if Ephemer's line gets usurped and its last remains of his society dwindles down to at least 4 people (the question is if there's 5 members considering Freya's "another one" line)? After all, the scientists do say the founders' societies. Who are these other founders? Are they even real? What is going on with Scala ad Caelum's governing situation? We already know that it can't be good, but we don't know how bad it is.
Another really interesting thing is that Player specifically, very weirdly, reaches out to Remus when they're by Ephemer's statue. That scene was all shades of odd. Which begs the question--is Remus somehow connected to Ephemer? Is Remus is the descendant of Ephemer, and all these silver-haired characters are just there to throw us off? Did Ephemer's bloodline somehow get usurped? Is Missing Link going to be about reinstating his family line, or watching it all fall to ruin? Is Remus going to get killed by his own brother?
It's just. It's all shades of interesting and worrying at the same time. And I'm not even mentioning Remus' similarities to Lea!
Conclusion
Remus nearly made me forget this post had a point: the differences between Roman and Norse names. I thought maybe there was a connection between the "sons of Odin" thing going on, but no. Baldr and Hermod both are sons of Odin, but Baldr has a gold Master's symbol and Hermod doesn't. Even for the non-sons, Heimdall has a gold Master's symbol but Bragi doesn't.
It's also too early to really tell anything distinct about the new Missing Link characters, since a) we don't see much of them and b) the naming doesn't differentiate them either. Freya is a member of the Baroque Society alongside Remus and Nept. There's no distinction there either. There is no visual disctinction between Freya, Nept, and Remus except for their underclothes, and I'd say those design choices are more geared toward their personalities than anything else. They also don't have Master's symbols (which is another interesting thing. Sigurd doesn't have one either. Do they not exist yet? Are they the symbol of another society?). Even if they did, we still don't really know the difference between silver and gold ones, though one theory is gold = blue blood, silver = non-blue blood.
There is definitely a naming convention going on here, though. It's no coincidence that all of Dark Road's characters have Norse-inspired names, but not all of Dark Road's do. I just really want to crack why there's this distinction. I'm betting it has something to do with these noble houses/blue blood families, though (I'm willing to overlook Xehanort and Eraqus as they existed long before these concepts were even thought up.). For now I'll leave it at that and post this so that we have a bit of a collection of all the name inspirations for our myth-inspired Kingdom Hearts characters in one place.
Also, if anyone knows more about ancient myth than what Google could tell me, please let me know! I absolutely could have missed something!

I want to learn seidr but idk where to start or what resources are even valid and not tainted by bigotry or transphobia. A lot of posts are very vague, too. So I have no idea what they actually mean. Any thoughts?
Hello! Thank you so much for the ask.
Seiðr is quite the mysterious practice, which is why you must have found difficult to find trustworthy sources, or even one that could clearly define its nature. We currently know very, very little about it. What we do know for sure is that it was a form of pre-Christian magical practice, the uses of which stretched from divination to healing, luck-bringing, controlling weather and making game plentiful (archaeologist Neil Price). It was neither a force of "good" nor one of "evil", as it could also be used to fulfill malicious purposes, such as to cause conflicts or cast curses.
Unlike galdr, which was often practiced by men, seiðr was seen as a rather "feminine" practice. But as always, there have been exceptions to this: after all, mythology has it Óðinn himself, in his eternal search for knowledge, had learned to master seiðr! Though it was considered dishonorable for men to practice it back in Iron Age Scandinavia, it was common enough for a word to describe such men to emerge: seiðmenn. For this reason, neither galdr not seiðr are (or ever have been) confined to specific genders. This, I felt compelled to specify, especially since you've mentionned having stumbled upon many transphobic posts in your research. Galdr and seiðr do not belong to any given gender.
Another difference we could find in modern practice as opposed to historical practice is the means to reach the seiðrkona's staple trance. Archeological finds have informed us that the practice often would have involved trance-inducing intoxicants, which would have enabled the practionner to receive visions and use divination. It's possible for us to recreate such conditions in vastly different ways, namely, using music, chants, repetitive motions and the like.
Now, what's interesting to note is that the Goddess Freyja was also said to be a master of the art. Since she is often thought to be the archetype of a völva, magic practitionners who famously carried a long staff which was crucial to their craft. The term völur actually means "staff carrier", or "wand carrier". This means that to anybody seeking to re-construct this practice, the use of some sort of staff would be near essential.
Tumblr media
Though the accounts describing völur and their work are sparse, it's still possible for us to make out a few recurring informations: they were wanderers (and were generally viewed as standing apart from society), which makes them likely to have had some sort of connection with the God Óðinn, and they went from village to village to offer their help and insights. When welcomed into a household, it's very likely they would have been offered to sit at the head of the table, replacing whoever was the head of house in their seat. This means that their presence was considered of the highest respectability. If you're interested in learning more about völur, I suggest checking out the Saga of Erik the Red, which contains the most detailed account of a völva known today.
Another interesting detail to be noted about seiðr is that weaving, whether it was physical or metaphysical, was a central part of the practice. After all, the Norns, who weave the Wyrd, are said to be the greatest of Seiðkonur. Another mythical element to support this theory is that Freyja as a deity seems to share lots of common points with Frigg. In fact, it's very likely the two were worshipped as one deity at some point in time, and depending on the areas. While Freyja is said to be a magician, capable of surviving a pyre thrice, famously, Frigg is more a clairvoyant master of divination, able to foresee the future. And both these different types of witchcraft could very well be considered seiðr practices! Now, Frigg is often depicted weaving using a spindle. That's because her myth has it she is the one who weaves the clouds, and is therefore a talented artist in this domain, which furthers the connection between magic (or at the very least, divination) and the textile arts. It's also interesting to note that the Nornir and Frigg have one major element in common: their ties with fate. While the Nornir weave fate, Frigg knows everything that's to come in the future, though she never speaks a word of it. This particular element of their respective stories greatly emphasizes the imortance of divination and foresight within seiðr practices.
Though I do work with witchcrat, I don't consider myself a practionner of this art per say. That's because oftentimes, the nordic magic I use takes the form of rune-carving, a practice inherent to taufr instead of seiðr. What little information we have on seiðr is unfortunately not enough to determine exactly how it was practiced, apart from the fiew hints here and there. I'm sorry that I can't be of much more help concerning this topic, but I'll link below a few online articles to check out if you're interested in some further reading.

Mischief has received a tag!
@soliloquent-stark Tagged me to do this thing!
rules: list the first line(s) of your last 10 (or however many you have) posted fics and see if there’s a pattern!
1. May: Part 5 of Frost & Forge-Fire: A Year of OTP 2023 Frostiron 12 Month Anthology of a Relationship
The first time Loki sent Tony flowers, he was off on a mission with Steve, Thor, and Natasha while the inventor stayed behind with the others to worry about their significant others.
2. A place where sinners fall in love
Loki stared at the wreckage around the entrance hall of the palace, vases and other statues overturned and shattered across the once clean and shining marble floor.
(Note: That is not the exact first line, but it's the first line that's not just Loki's inner thoughts.)
3. Dancing in my storm
“Is this something the Avengers can and, more importantly, will help us with?”
4. To be in love with the masterpiece
“Loki! Where’re you headed? The studio’s back that way,” Steve called out when he saw one of his friends booking it away from the art building. He was on his way to the art studio from the parking lot and caught the swish of a short black ponytail bouncing in the opposite direction.
(Note: Okay, you got me. It's more than just one line.)
5. Eden revives in the first kiss of love
When Logan woke up, it was to the caress of sunlight on his eyelids and the warm breath of a kiss on his lips.
6. Under blue moon, I saw you
“Oh sweet fucking Norns,” Loki exclaimed.
7. You are the ghost behind my eyes
Steve had returned all of the Infinity stones as per his last mission as Captain America.
8. Heartache to heartache, we stand
Thanos’ army arrived like a swarm, decimated the compound, and left the sky black as if they’d put out the sun.
9. Take me back to the night we met
Tony bent over his scratched and dented Iron Man helmet.
10. Half past four and shifting gear
“You hear about Loki?”
Holy crap! I have patterns! Ones that my college creative writing profs would be so proud of me for. At least in these 10 fics (and very likely the ones following those), I start my fics either with immediate action or dialogue (speaking = action). I do remember when I started writing back in the Middle Stone Ages that I thought I needed to always "set the scene," especially with long rolling descriptions so anyone reading could 'see' where they were. I think I still sometimes try to set the scene, but it was 'gently' recommended by two of the profs I admire the most to start with action, dialogue, and one of them especially loved starting a story In medias res, and with "Under blue moon, I saw you," that was the start I gave it.
Who'da thunk that at almost 51, I'd finally grasp all those things my favorite writing profs kept encouraging? Go me!
Anyone else pick up patterns I haven't mentioned (or noticed)?
Tagging: @scottxlogan @mcfiddlestan @endlesstwanted @kleenexwoman @kedreeva @mistressofmuses @song-witch @stormxpadme @securitybreach @loni4ever @chaoticgardenbread @holistic-alcoholic @renlybaratheon-tyrell and anyone else who wants to play!

seriously though now that I've worked out and calmed down a bit, the post I'm actually wanting to make:
a few people have mentioned they're surprised by how much they've ended up liking Phyrexia. i see a lot of, like, "this started out ironic but now I kind of love them???" floating around.
my theory is basically that ǩaπa š’iimashaǩ *ahem* that you can't really worldbuild a faction to the degree that they have and keep it from becoming interesting in its own right. Once you're inventing sub-factions and intrigue and gossip and assimilation/conversion stories that aren't completely horrific, even if the culture is clearly villainous, you've got complexity and nuance starting to peek through the cracks and someone's gonna notice and like it.
If you've gone so far as to invent a conlang... yeah, "this isn't going to have any fans in its own right" is dead, you killed it. bye.
in the case of phyrexia specifically: body modification is a thing. actual cyborgs exist. i, the person typing this post that you are reading, likely qualify as one on at least some definitions. characters are metaphors for real things. cultures are metaphors for real things.
so you're going to get some people who experience or understand those things vibing with the culture you've created, as soon as you make it more nuanced than ARG BLARG.
and that's not the only reason people have or want body modification or transformation. or the good old "rite of passage that involves pain and fear and yikes but when i'm done i get $status."
those are... all things people can like and invest in without agreeing with yawgmoth or elesh norn.
it's a feature, not a bug.

Hi, sorry about last night
I talked to my friend and realize what a lot of post lotr and dune fantasy/sci-fi writers tend to do this
“Well they [older writers] already did the heavy lifting so I’m good!”
So a lot of writers forget the minor but important lore pieces that make these settings interesting and good.
And how does warhammer “borrows” it can’t that-
Oh…found that named inquisitor from the first edition. Are the blood ravens an homage to game workshop early days of worldbuilding?
Perhaps I’m not the best for discussion, sorry, your post just reminded of stuff I been noticing even as a child.
What did 40k "borrow" from?
DUNE
God Emperor of Dune Leto Atreides II: clearly the basis for the God-Emperor of Mankind, including the self sacrifice element (Leto lets himself be killed).
The Golden Path: the plan Leto wanted to enact to save humanity and the inspiration for Big E's big plan to help humanity ascend.
Melee combat: 40k has an absurd focus on melee combat and so does Dune.
Ix: basis for the Adeptus Mechanicus. Basically tech obsessed dudes building advanced tech.
Bene Gesserit: inspiration for both the absurd amount of mental control the Astartes have over their bodies and of the special order of Adepta Sororitas that assists noble families as personal counselors.
Sardaukar: elite combat specialists trained on an irradiated world from childhood with an absurd casualty rate and the personal army of the emperor.
Face dancers: assassins that can imitate anyone. Basically Callidus assassins.
Navigators: 40k navigators.
Prescience-negating gene: pariah gene.
Butlerian Jihad: Men of Iron and hatred of AI.
Miscellaneous
The concept of an Ecumenopolis (a planet converted into a single city) was first explored in a widely known way in Isaac Asimov's Foundation, with the capital of the Galactic Empire, on Trantor.
He again popularised the concept of Hyperspace (Warp) travel in that series, though the concept was a little older.
Eldar (before they became legally distinct) is literally just a word in Tolkien's Elvish for star people, AKA elves. It's pretty blatant.
The Horus Heresy is a pretty explicit homage to the War in Heaven from John Milton's Paradise Lost, except this time Lucifer wins.
The Tau Battlesuits are inspired by Mobile Suit Gumdam, including the Commsnder Farsight.
Lovecraft.
The Deathworld book by Harry Harrison, in which the entire planet is trying to kill you, is a clear inspiration for the various Deathworlds in 40k.
The Lensman series by E.E. Smith is probably the reason Psychic powers are so common in sci-fi today, and 40k is no exception.
Xenomorphs: Tyranids, or Genestealers more specifically, xenomorph queen basis for Norn Queens.
P-5000 Powered Work Loader: Nob power armor.
Powered Armor troopers: Space Marines, the term coming from Bob Olsen in his short story "Captain Brink of the Space Marines," while the works of Heinlein were much more influential.
Predator, ripped sweaty dudes in a jungle: Catachan jungle fighters.
Judge Dredd: Arbitrators of the Adeptus Arbites.
Cenobites: Drucharii.
Michael Moorcock's Universe, Chaos: literally the basis for 40k's Chaos, down to the symbol.
I can go on...

now mind you as someone who mainly has norn & charr characters my heart cries out for more & better content exploring the particular things i care about.
will the norn move north again now that Jormag is gone? what was it like for them to see other races (the charr and to a lesser extent the asura) ally with their ancient foe, and will that have consequences for international relations?
what’s up with the svanir- are they totally broken without Jormag, or is their concept of the Great Dragon Spirit broad and resilient enough to change? they’re unique among the dragon “minions” in that they have, by and large, chosen that path of their own free will, and even developed an entire ideology around it… so what becomes of a Jormag-less misogynistic dragon cult? (narratively, i think it would be interesting to see a faction break off and attempt to reconcile their beliefs with worship of aurene- likely clashing with the crystal bloom along the way).
what the fuck do the kodan think about all the meddling with the balance of the world that’s gone on lately? what will their philosophy make of aurene now?
how’s the whole post-civil war period going for the charr? this is a society whose traditional values around loyalty & authority have been seriously tested. one branch of the flame legion is being reintegrated & bringing with it old social tensions and totally different norms. iron and blood both have brand-new imperators. presumably there are now a shitton of ex-frost legion charr recovering from dragon corruption and trying to find a place as new beings in a radically reshaped society. how many gladia are there now, after war casualties and defections, and will their numbers change charr society? we got some hints in TIS as to the state of the treaty (treaties?) with kryta & ebonhawke, but how is that actually playing out?
anyway yeah. I Would Like to See More. but asura & sylvari probably deserve a turn in the spotlight first

Completely ignore this if u don’t wanna answer but can you tell us anything about your original work?? Every story I post here I obsess over and I know that with ur own characters in your own world and storyline it will be absolutely brilliant
Awww that is so sweet. I'll put it under a read more for those who do not care.
Trilogy #1 I started this when I was 18 (and finished last year aged 27) so I spent a loooong time on it. All three books are completely finished and this is the one that I will likely start self publishing in winter because 1) my writing has improved massively since I began 2) I spent so much time on this, there literally wasn't a day for nearly 10 years where i didn't think about this series, so I would like to share it with the world, even if only one person reads it. It's first person single POV and YA high fantasy. I did a lot of travelling and researching folklore and myths so these are all woven into it. It features witches, norns, trolls as well as more obscure folklore.
It begins with an isolated community in the north of a continent who departed 200 years earlier once the rest of the continent started turning their backs on the Gods. They're basically like fantasy amish people lmao. They have very little of anything and are basically surviving day by day but worship fervently. Anyway, a stranger seeks out the chosen one™️ to fulfil their father's destiny and that of the Warrior who was sent forth by the Goddess Yelena to defeat the children of the Master of Time. Strangers are not allowed so it's a big deal and very naughty, MC has to sneak away. There are lots of secrets that unravel, MC discovers how brutal the world is that they left behind and struggles with having to give up their own safety for bad people, also struggles with seeing disparity between rich/poor/slaves, and isn't so easily swayed by wealth. Realises the stranger is a bad, bad, bad person and needs to get away from them but they're in a place where they have no allies except for a brutally scarred man who has his own secrets to keep.
Second series This was going to be a trilogy but I have too much content so it's looking like four books. I have written the first two and I'm struggling majorly with the third because I have all these ideas and trying to weave them together is hard. I have post it notes all over my desk trying to figure it out. This one is 3rd person multi-pov and definitely more NA, but also high fantasy with more folklore in it as well my own imaginings of creatures/magic systems etc. It's set after the Old Fae whose bloodlines were dying out bred with mortals so the current race of fae are less powerful. A tyrant king has died and his shy and weak son inherits the throne but there are mysterious deaths happening throughout the country such as bodies being drained of blood but not a drop spilled. He tears down the iron walls that have stood for two thousand years around his country to seek an alliance with their neighbouring country - who also have these deaths happening that aren't from any beasts or creatures that are known. The first book follows this establishing alliance between various characters as they search for what is plaguing their countries with a lil bit of spicy romance too :)
idk why my second book in each series is always the strongest imo whereas in actual published trilogies, it always tends to be the weakest. It also feels so embarrassing to write out what my books are about idk why!! Which is why the descriptions are so vague, sorry!!

Ok, so Belfast has some redeeming features. Like chips done in beef fat served alongside fresh scampi and a bramble.
Tumblr media
For better or worse, you can find anything in Belfast. But it makes it incredibly frustrating as a culchie that EVERYTHING revolves around Belfast.
The chips and scampi still fuck hard though. 2 points Belfast.

May I ask how Gaius ( and the warband) get along with Dragon's Watch?
For the most part, the entire warband gets along decently well with Dragon's Watch. I'll mostly discuss notable examples or exceptions here.
Gaius more or less adopted Braham and Taimi in the way he typically does--it was a bit awkward, and continued to be a complex relationship particularly in regard to Braham, because of the norn's very complex issues regarding heritage, particularly parentage, and Gaius' own parental issues, but also the charr-typical "just do your own thing."
Gaius and Rox had a strained relationship for an extended period, but circa the point Rytlock jumps into hell, Gaius has actually become a rather big supporter and emotional support for her.
Augustus and Kasmeer get along extraordinarily well, both being Mesmers, and having very different backgrounds and general focuses. I think August is her first real friend from the warband--Gaius is more her boss/coworker.
Oberon and Rox had a brief fling during LWS1-2. It didn't work out, but neither party was looking for anything beyond what it was. They're generally amicable, and like. I do genuinely think they're the sort to stay up super late on watch having really deep conversations.
Phlunq greatly enjoys the presence of Taimi and Gorrik--it's very nice for him to not be the only Asura, particularly because they're folk he can talk to about things he doesn't think his warband will understand.
Terang Bulan gets along with everyone generally amicably, if they talk to him.
Rytlock is an interesting topic for the warband, because they all know him (or at least of him, in some cases) prior to Dragon's Watch, save for Phlunq and Arashi. He doesn't have the best reputation among the warband just on the grounds of being Blood versus a bunch of Iron charr, and then interacting with him. Then, of course, there's the various issues they witness between him and Gaius. August in particular never really lets go of his disdain towards him post PoF.

Ooh for fic prompts, Sylki hurt/comfort with Loki as the hurt one? Bonus points if it links back to older trauma somehow!
Ooh hurt/comfort my beloved. Tysm for submitting a prompt! I hope you enjoy what I came up with!
Fic under the cut
Safe | Post-series | T-rated
Somewhere along the way, his vision goes hazy.
Loki blinks rapidly, trying to bring the blurred smear of dark buildings and neon lights back into focus. But his efforts are fruitless. If anything, it gets harder to see.
Without warning the ground lurches beneath his feet and he stumbles, stomach flipping threateningly. Pain streaks through him from a hundred different directions, cuts, and bruises, and broken bones screaming for attention.
He should stop, he knows he should. He needs to try and heal himself before he passes out here, all alone, in a strange city, on a strange planet. But they’re coming. Hel, they could be here at this very moment, combing the area for him.
These people don’t stop, not unless Kang tells them to. And apprehending this particular escaped prisoner is no doubt high on their to-do list.
The world tips again he falls into a brick wall, sending pain shooting down from his shoulder. He waits there for only a moment, trying to catch his breath, before shoving off.
He hardly makes it two steps before his legs give out.
He reaches out, bloodied fingertips scraping the wall as he tries to catch himself. But he ends up crumpled on the ground, raspy breaths rattling in his chest, the taste of iron on his tongue, and a dizzying sort of terror eating at his insides. He’s fading, with no way to keep himself afloat. He’s well past the point where he can cast a proper healing spell. He’ll be lucky if he can mend a small cut.
Loki swallows down the bile that rises in his throat.
If the TVA finds him now, he’ll be helpless to defend himself. And he’ll end up right back in that cursed cell, watching the same horrible memories again and again and again until he’s certain he’s going to shrivel up and die right then and there.
The image of Mother dying flashes before him again, followed by the searing cold of a Frost Giant’s hand on his own, turning his pale flesh blue. He squeezes his eyes shut.
From somewhere close by comes the sound of shouting, breaking through the ringing in his ears. Every instinct he possesses screams at him to get up and run. But he lacks the strength to even push himself into a sitting position.
Running footsteps approach, stopping dangerously close to his body, and he forces his heavy eyelids open.
“Oh, Norns.”
A slight figure drops to their knees before him, curly hair falling across their angular face. A hand reaches out to him, emerald sparkling there, and Loki feels his breath hitch.
“S-sylvie?”
Sharp blue eyes meet his, just as they have in so many of his dreams.
“Yeah, it’s me,” she says, quietly. “I’m here. I’ve got you.”
And then she’s bringing him into her arms and her seidr is flowing through him, healing his wounds, and tears of relief burn the edges of his eyes.
“You’re safe,” she repeats, and he dares to believe her.

Hi, it's me with an incredibly long post again. Today: All the guild wars centric ask game for all my commanders! Enjoy!
1. Write a basic lowdown of your OC. What's their deal?
Commander Valoop the main gal. She’s a quaggan from Moshpoipoi (all the way up in the top right corner of Frostgorge sound), she and her village have fled south to Falooaloo where she meets Forgal, learns to embrace her rage from Baroosh and from then on (mostly) follows the canon storyline.
Every other commander is helping her do all that stuff, there is one of every race because the various personal story branches are too cool to not have a character experience them.
Commander Aluen is the Sylvari, she fights Bercilac the Green, tricking him to take off his armor and after the fight dons the green armor herself subsequently being called Aluen the Green. She has a good mind for strategy and chooses to join the priory to study warfare there. Does priory things until the foundation of the pact where she becomes Commander and Chief Strategist.
Commander Fenquin is a very minor human noble and lives through all those fun storylines, his masterful handling of the corrupt ministerial guard earns him the attention of countess Anise who decides to train him further. He joins the Order of Whispers per Anise’s recommendation with the expectation that he feeds information back to her. Plagued by a growing bad conscience and disdain for Anise he flips her the finger and stops giving her anything, throws himself into mission after mission to make up for his misdeeds and quickly rises to prominence in the organization so that, at the founding of the pact, Riel suggests him to coordinate the pacts intelligence branch, earning him the title of commander.
Commander Posh is both a Mesmer with an intimate understanding of portals and an Asura with expertise in energy projection (like a mega laser for example). They win the Snaff prize with an experimental translocator, begin a lifelong friendship with Zojja, a lifelong “friendship” with the inquest and and a bunch of prize money They join the Priory after Gorr presents his dragon research. They prove not only very adept in their field but also in working together with others and combining their research. At the foundation of the Pact Gixx chooses them to lead the Pacts research division earning them the title of commander.
Commander Steelforge (of Forge warband) is an Iron Legion Engineer who thinks very large. Big guns in big turrets on big walls with big gates in them that lead to big roads and so and so forth. This tendency also includes loosing track of the smaller things which in the case of the battle of smokestead lead to his whole warband being decimated. While rebuilding his warband he gets attention for the ghostbore artillery he designed, figures out his sire was a pretty dope elementalist and then comes into contact with the Vigil while he is building a fort in the Brand. The vigil ask if they can borrow Forge Warband to construct some forts for them and Tribune Goreblade allows them to. At the founding of the pact Ruck is suggested to lead the pacts construction and logistics division and is from then on formally transfered from the iron legion to the pact.
Commander Wurmslayer, otherwise known as Yorg the Slayer of Issormir, is an inspirational leader and skilled orator. His his victory over Issormor brings him much renown, he goes through the norn stories (all of them, he’s a very busy guy) and joins the vigil the moment he meets them. His thirst for adventure and unwavering optimism have the tendency to rub off on everyone around him, his retellings of his adventures are captivating and he can make friends with just about anyone. Naturally he is given a spot as commander in the pact, becomming responsible for recruitment, relations and similar things.
2. What's their class/elite spec? Weapon of choice? Did they purposely train for it or did it just sort of happen?
Valoop's character ingame which I made to have her name is a warrior, but since Valoop exists purely through a non combat tonic that doesn’t really matter. It does represent her lack of magic abilities though.
Her weapon of choice is your typical quaggan harpoon/spear thing which you can see the npc quaggans wield. The way quaggan are built really doesn’t benefit weapons that need to be swung instead of thrust. She learned to use it to hunt and has trained a lot more since. From time to time you may see her wielding Caladbolg (and on one occasion both Caladbolg and Sohothin) though only to draw on it’s powers, not to swing it around. Even more often than with a spear she will fight unarmed, showing her rage to claw, bite and tear her way through soft targets.
Aluen, ingame is a warrior fighting with two swords, which is accurate to her pre HoT form. After mordy turns her into an armored semi-bipedal vinetooth thingy which I very sadly cannot play ingame she still fights with two swords only the swords are now fucking huge and she can also crush people with her claws or skewer them with her tail. #girl
Fenquin is a fencer. I'd probably make him a ranger ingame because I like ranger sword/dagger animations more than thief's.
Posh is a portalling mesmer, mostly doing things like projectile reflections/ teleporting enemies into their own attacks. No mind games.
Ruck is an engineer using both pistols and rifle, but later learn elementalist magic using his guns as a focus so he just keeps going when his ammo runs out.
Yorg mostly does spiritshape shenanigans but he also tames a bunch of animals so he'd be a ranger.
3. Are they a part of any groups? If so, what's their role? This is for you, Inquest and Nightmare Court people
This is a quick one. They're all pact. Valoop, Ruck and Yorg are vigil, Fenquin is whispers and later does the shining blade initiation (reluctantly), Posh and Aluen are Priory but Aluen later goes to the crystal bloom because the awakened there are much more chill about her body.
4. Do they have a family or people they view as family?
Valoop, after losing Forgal and then Trahearne, made an effort of not letting anyone get close to her out of fear of losing yet another person. Still Dragon’s Watch have agressively tried to be her friend and she very reluctantly cares about them a lot. She would never use the word family though.
Aluen really feels at home with the crystal bloom and the awakened there. I mean she basically looks like a vegan awakened abomination.
Fenquin is still in touch with his family in DR.
Posh has people they view as family both their actual parents and her friends in the pact.
Ruck, being the canon charr commander, lost almost his entire warband and the new recruits are of course, well, new. Not quasi siblings you've lived with all your life.
Yorg has a million friends and he'd consider all of then family.
5. Their most favorite map/place in general?
Valoop: That’s a tough question. I think she loved the cathedral of hidden depths. Swimming through an ancient temple of a long dead god with her friend Trahearne and his mysterious acquaintance Sayeh al Rajihd. An incredible experience.
Aluen: Sirens Landing. Nice to see Trahearnes Work come to fruition.
Fenquin: Fahranur
Posh: Rata Primus. Horrible implications but a dream of a laboratory complex.
Ruck: Fort trinity. Still his proudest work.
Yorg: Hoelbrak when it's Dragon Bash.
6. How do they celebrate the holidays, if at all?
Valoop tends to stay away from celebrations but gets pressured into appearing at dragon bash (what's a dragon bash of you can't meet the dragon basher supreme herselfl at least for a short while. She dips out the moment she gets a chance though.
Aluen similarly stays away from most social events, but does show up to her moms birthday party (which I insist is a thing, there have to be a bunch of sylvari who love throwing parties and I know those people are unstoppable) even though she absolutely hates being in the grove now.
Fenquin is home for wintersday and sometimes lunar new year too.
Posh attends the Super Adventure Festival "purely for its scientific merit"
Ruck decorates fort trinity for every holiday. He can not be stopped.
Yorg has a party radar that kicks in the moment he isn't actively fighting Tyria's greatest threats. He is thus magnetically pulled towards any and all holiday festivities. He goes around DR handing out presents to children. He is a competitive SAB speedrunner. He has faced Steve in single combat. There is a racing moa named after him (Yorg Wormpicker). He wrote Bash the Dragon. He is a Dragonball champion. He sells his own embroidery at the Zephyrite bazaar.
7.  Do they have a favorite mount?
Valoop does not ride, I don't think most of the mounts would be comfortable for a quaggan, except maybe skimmers. Conversely I don't think the skimmer would like quaggan that much they seem quite heavy.
Aluen is the mount (sometimes she lets Gorrik ride on her back)
Fenquin has found great joy in raptors but never progressed beyond that.
Ruck hatched the skyscale. The two are inseparable now.
Average Commander rides 10 different mounts into battle is a statistical error. Yorg the Slayer of Issormir who lives in a cave and has tamed every animal either side of the shiverpeaks is an outlier and should not have been counted.
8. What do they THINK their biggest strength and weakness is?
Valoop thinks her biggest strength is how she has no one she cares for enough to try and survive and her biggest weakness that she can’t refuse others from helping her.
Aluen thinks her biggest strength is working really well under pressure and her biggest weakness is that she looks like a monster (she gets vinetoothified during HoT)
Fenquin thinks his biggest strength is that he’s very good at lying and his biggest weakness is that he’s very good at lying.
Posh thinks their biggest strength is their intellect (naturally) and their biggest weakness that they sometimes loose track that the main purpose of all their work is to save people not hurt dragons.
Ruck thinks his biggest strength is being very good at recognizing what people are good at and his biggest weakness is being unable to build everything he wants to by hand so that he wouldn’t have to spend so much time explaining things to people.
Yorg thinks his biggest strength is that he gets drunk easily (makes moots a lot cheaper) and his biggest weakness is that he can’t be mad at people.
9. What is their biggest strength and weakness.
Valoop has a huge capacity for love, so huge that Forgal’s death is still fuelling the spite which keeps her going all these years later. Her biggest weakness is that she feels so protective of others that she feels she needs to do everything alone to keep them out of danger.
Aluen's biggest strenght is how dedicated she is. She just keeps going. Her biggest weakness is how much she worries about how others percieve her.
Fenquin's biggest strength is that he really does not take any bullshit. If he does not want to do something there is no way to get him to do something. His biggest weakness is that he's very good at lying.
Posh's greatest strength is being very adaptable and great at seeing connections. Their greatest weakness is that they want to save the world maybe a little too much sometimes.
Ruck's biggest strength is being very good at recognizing what people are good at and hos biggest weakness is not trusting people enough to their work right.
Yorg's biggest strenght is the friends he made along the way and his biggest weakness is that he has trouble to assign malice to people's actions which makes him easily taken advantage of.
10. What was their lowest point, either during the story or in general?
Valoop after the death of Trahearne, for obvious reasons.
Aluen after her mordyfication, for obvious reasons.
Fenquin after doing the Shining Blade initiation because he really didn't realize what he was getting into.
Posh at the Battle of Lions Arch because they has worked with Scarlet to bring it about.
Ruck at the beginning of PS, for obvious reasons.
Yorg's optimism has not wavered but it almost did in the aftermath of the Battle of Thunderhead Keep.
11. What do they consider their home/base of operation?
Valoop: Isn't really settles down anywhere but feels most at home in Fort Trinity.
Aluen: Eye of the North and the town that Sprung up around it that totally is there.
Fenquin: DR
Posh: Mrot Boru where they grew up is what they would consider home, base of operations is obviously changing with what the pact is doing. They're pretty quick to get comfortable in a new place.
Ruck: Fort Trinity as well
Yorg: Well his dad's got a homestead out on the far side of Lornar's pass where he spent a lot of his childhood but he also was a lot at his aunt's up in the snowden drifts but with her he would travel to hoelbrak and stay there over the winter and then sometimes he would stay there in hoelbrak at a friends steading and.....
12. What's something they could talk about for hours at length?
For Valoop it's Forgal. After defeating Zaithan she decided to honor his sacrifice by going around ans telling every norn that would listen what great things he had done, how good of a friend he had been, how he was both and accomplished warrior and diplomat. She still talks about him often, even years later because the norn say he is not truly dead as long as she does. That belief also influenced a little how she talks about other people she lost, how she approaches preserving her people’s and other quaggan’s histories but most importantly it is about Forgal.
Posh and Ruck both can go on for ages about their respective fields of expertise.
Yorg can talk endlessly of his adventures with the pact of course.
13. How recognizable are they? Do they have a reputation?
Valoop is probably the meanest quaggan you have ever seen. You will know when you see her.
Aluen is pretty unique looking and definitely well known. I mean there aren't many other plant monstes in green armor around.
Fenquin Posh and Ruck aren't super recognizable to people outside the pact and their reputation is only limited.
Everybody knows Yorg.
14. Are they actually good at fighting? Do they enjoy it?
Yes and Yes for all. Posh is probably the least competent fighter out the six (tho by no means bad at it) and Ruck the one that enjoys it the least.
15. What would they be doing if they weren't the commander/whatever they are?
Valoop would probably swim around Falooaloo living a normal boring village life.
The others well the first few chaptera of personal story you really aren't that special. Aluen would end up being a warden, Fenquin does normal noble things, Posh already has a krewe researching portal tech, Ruck does the same thing he is doing for the pact but does it for the iron legion and Yorg would hardly notice the difference.
16.   What's their greatest fear (be it one of the three from the personal story or something else entirely)?
Valoop’s greatest fear is to loose another friend
Aluen’s greatest fear is turning into the monster that she looks like
Fenquin’s greatest fear is forgetting who he is himself
Posh’s greatest fear is accidentally being evil again (they has joined scarlet for a while aka the infinity ball future was actually somewhat true)
Ruck’s greatest fear is being responsible for peoples deaths because he didn’t do his work well enough
Yorg’s greatest fear is wasps.
17. People with Commander ocs, is there any part of the main story where your oc's story diverges? Everyone else, is there a part of your oc's story that follows the canon one?
Multiple commanders means some of the things are split up between them, like how only Fenquin does the shining blade arc but generally everything happens.
18. Which antagonist did they have the biggest vendetta against (doesn't have to be canon)?
Valoop: Believe it or not it was Zaithan. With Forgal’s death she had experienced real personal loss for the very first time. Of course many of her people had not made the long and hard journey from Moshpoipoi to Falooaloo, but she had never really felt at home with them. Forgal was one that she had chosen go be family. And Zaithan has taken him away.
Aluen: Mordy
Fenquin: Balthasar but also Anise.
Posh: Themself
Ruck: Kralkattorik
Yorg: Joko
19. Do they have a love interest?
No
20. Could they ever go back to their old life? Would they want to?
Valoop couldn't and wouldn't. She has changed so much from what society expects a quaggan to be and she was never happy with her place in the world before she joined the vigil.
Aluen could not but really wants to.
Posh could go back but at this point does not feel like they deserve to have a simple life, they have to make good all the damage they caused when they helped Scarlett.
Ruck could go back to the Legions but doesn't see any merit in that.
Yorg's old life is basically the same as his current life except that his current life also involves beating up dragons. Why would he give that up.
21.   What song or songs do you associate with them?
Not really a thing I do.
22.   Whose death affected them the most?
Valoop: Forgal
Aluen: Trahearne
Fenquin: Demmi
Posh: Everyone that died in LA
Ruck and Yorg: Aurene
23. Did they have any close calls/near death experiences other than the canon ones?
Valoop not but kind of the inverse because she too ate a part of Joko and is thus a little bit less mortal.
Aluen got put into a blighting pod but got protected by the magic green armor which prevented mordy controlling her mind but not mordy altering her body.
Yorg fell of his airship in HoT, walked all the way to Rata Sum alone.
24. Which canon character do/would they get along with the best?
Valoop: Forgal and Baroosh.
Aluen: Gorrik
Fenquin: Demmi
Posh: Caithe
Ruck: Almorra
Yorg: Everyone
(ok I'm cutting it here because the last questions don't really have any imteresting answers. Valoops least fave enemies are those she can not bite)
