I can’t be the only one who’s tired of modern capitaliszed Christmas and yearns for the old darker version of Christmas when people needed some form of joy and warmth to get them through the harsh cold, right?
I live in Florida so, I don’t get snowfall, or much cool weather at all. But I feel like this whole country has kind of lost sight of the origins of Christmas, whether that be the Pagan holiday or the Christian version.
I really want to move somewhere that gives me Carol of the Bells or God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman vibes in winter y’know? That sort of hauntingly beautiful candlelit lamppost wreathes and pine trees and smoking chimneys Christmas. I dunno, just a thought🤷

There's something so insane to me about being able to create and recreate vintage or even ancient music, clothes, fabrics, building architecture, anything, really.
I watched this video about a lady who knit a WWII-era vest, and it was really unique, because the cable work would eat up yarn, when there were shortages of fibers. This pattern would have likely been used by people to send overseas to soldiers, and now it's being created in a time where this war has been over for generations. What were the people making this pattern thinking of? What about the people making the vest? Could they fathom a world where world wars didn't happen back to back? Could they imagine what peace felt like, or did it fade like a distant memory, a faint friend? All we have now are the remnants of their efforts, a "simple" vest that would warm the bodies of countless people the knitter would never have imagined were here on earth with them.
We're reaching across time to learn about other people - we're reaching our hands out just to grasp anything tangible. And when we've take hold of something, all we can do is say I love you I love you I love you

My fellow zillennial. It's come to my attention that Gen Alpha is apparently making aesthetic tiktoks romanticizing 2020, like they want to be a teenager during that time??? Like no? You don't? I can't even begin to start breaking down how bad that year was in every category. McDonalds apparently now has "standards" yet another rubbish thing to add to the "college degrees make you overqualified with zero experience sorry you can't get this entry job" bucket. And Lunchables news reporters are like 30 years too late to be writing an expose on the toxic levels of metal in that.
people were dying????? we were in a state of panic and isolation???? schools were struggling with the switch to online only classes????
do we all remember the BLM protests and the tips on how to keep your face hidden and how to stay safe from getting maced???? do we remember the pushback against it??? calling on botched stats???
do we even remember the fucking US election???? how heated it got???? how much distrust republicans tried to seed into mail-in ballots?????
and then literally January of 2021, the US legislative house gets stormed in, Texas has a freeze so bad our gridlock shuts down and PEOPLE DIED FROM THE COLD WHILE EVERYONE ELSE MOCKED US FOR FREEZING!!!
2020 was not a good year. it is the furthest from a a good year, but it sure as hell emphasized a motley of issues the world had going on (tho i’m more versed in the US issues bc i live there)

I can grow up and learn to handle my issues and I can gently make fun of Coldplay as a phenomenon and a phase but I am never more than a single "fix you" or "the scientist" away from staring at my ceiling with tears rolling down my temples into my pillow and that's just a fact.

Man I love being nostalgic for a time I never lived in, like the 60s where influencers went on the street and asked, "Khrushchev son or Castro daughter".

I'm as sceptical of Tom Brevoort's X-Men reboot as everyone else, but can't we wait until the issues or out or we at least know who the creators are before denouncing it as a total dumpsters fire?
I get the concern. Brevoort's record at Marvel is inconsistent at best. He oversaw Hickman's FF and Avengers, Ryan North's FF, Ewing's Ultimates, Gillen and Ribić's Eternals, and events like Secret Wars and Judgement Day. He also oversaw Slott on FF, Aaron on Avengers, and events like Civil War II and Secret Empire.
But as patchy as that record is, I'm just counting my lucky stars that it wasn't Nick Lowe taking over.

I actually hate feeling nostalgic. You want me to think about a time in my life when I was working with people who became my best friends and now we only see each other maybe 2 times a year? Or when I went to my next job and didn't know anyone there and then again a few of the people became my best friends and now we see each other once a year maybe? I'm supposed to just go to one of my best friends baby's first birthday party and not think about when me and his mom worked together while she was pregnant? I'm supposed to keep going to new jobs or my friends leaving to new jobs and we're all just supposed to make new memories and continue to look back at the most fun times and continue living like it's not breaking my heart to know that I'll never go through a shitty shift with my favorite coworker and get drinks after? I'm never gonna watch dried ice bubble up in the sink while me and my favorite coworker are hiding in the back so we can have a break? We're just supposed to go on seeing each other twice a year and share stories and then inevitably start saying "remember when?" And have the new time of our lives remembering the time of our lives?
