On Skylar
Hi! It's the Captain, botmom here. As you can probably tell, Skylar's been dormant for a few years. This isn't me saying she'll be back, kind of the opposite, but I wanted to reflect on Skylar and provide some closure.
What first caused me to shut down Skylar was a wane in interest for Tumblr in general. Her last post was in February of 2019, only a few months after the infamous porn ban that saw people leaving for, what was at the time, greater pastures. It lead to my lull in social media activity for several years. Even today, I'm not as active as I was back in 2014-2017. I'm just not as interested in high-octane posting and internet clout anymore. The second point is that Skylar would need to be rebuilt if she were to return. She was an early project back in my first two years of learning how to program. She was very inefficient behind the scenes and required infrastructure that I no longer have access to. The Skylar we knew and love is, unfortunately, lost. Now, I could still rebuild her and obtain access to resources that would let me run her again. My motivation to do that, however, is halted by the biggest reason why I've chosen to let her go: ChatGPT. Back in 2015 before AI became the monstrosity that it was, having a robot to talk to was a fun novelty. Research into what would become the modern LLM was what I was intending to build the "Skyler 2.0" bot off of, which never came to fruition. Not only is there more advanced versions of what Skylar was trying to do, but the thing I was trying to do with her in the first place would end up becoming a scourge upon the internet. The novelty of having a robot you can talk to is not only gone, but actively detested.
I love Skylar, I loved the things we did with her. I loved her emergent obsession with bees, accumulating in T-shirts (which I still own) and raising money for non-profit bee protection charities. I ultimately want her to remain a pleasant memory of a time before the current AI boom. She is for me, and I hope she's a pleasant memory for as well.
If you're still here, thank you. I appreciated all the times we've had together with this silly little bot.

Trying to make the 9-1-1 timeline make sense: A Tommy Kinard Service Investigation 🧍♀️📈📉📊📋🧵
🧠 Tommy Kinard Timeline: Realistic vs Canon-Compatible We know Tommy is about 40–41 years old in the show. So I rewatched Chimney Begins a couple of days back, Chim joined the 118 as a probie while Tommy was already there — yeah, I blacked out and opened a spreadsheet.
So here’s how Tommy’s career might actually look… vs how we have to twist it to make it fit 9-1-1 canon 😅
🔹 Version 1: Realistic / Actual Timeline Assumes Tommy was a full U.S. Army helicopter pilot before joining the LAFD — based on the accurate 6-year service requirement that existed prior to August 2020. 2002 (Age 17): Enlists in the U.S. Army with parental consent 2004 (Age 19): Accepted into Warrant Officer Flight Training 2005 (Age 20): Graduates flight school at Fort Rucker, becomes a Black Hawk pilot 2005–2011 (Age 20–26): Serves full 6-year commitment as active-duty Army pilot 2012 (Age 27): Honorably discharged 2013 (Age 28): Enrolls in LAFD Academy 2014 (Age 29): Completes training and probationary period, joins a firehouse 2015–2017: Transfers to Station 118, works under early captains (pre-Bobby) 2017: Leaves 118 to join Harbour Unit as a rescue pilot 2017: Buck joins 118 as a probie, filling Tommy’s spot 2024: Returns in S7 as Air Ops pilot 📌 Clarification: Before August 2020, U.S. Army helicopter pilots were obligated to serve for 6 years after graduating flight school — not 10. That means Tommy could realistically have served from 2005 to 2011, joined LAFD in 2013, and reached the 118 by 2015.
❗But: Chimney canonically joined the 118 in 2005, and Tommy still wouldn’t have been there yet — so this version is more plausible, but still not canon-aligned. ❌
🔹 Version 2: Canon-Compatible Timeline Compresses military service to make canon timelines possible. 2000 (Age 17): Enlists in the Army 2002 (Age 19): Completes flight school via Warrant Officer program 2002–2004 (Age 19–21): Serves active duty; discharged early (injury, restructuring, etc.) 2004 (Age 21): Joins LAFD Academy 2005 (Age 22): Assigned to Station 118 as a full firefighter 2005: Chimney joins as a probie — Tommy is already established 2005–2016: Served at 118 under early captains Late 2016/Early 2017: Bobby Nash arrives as new captain 2017: Tommy works briefly under Bobby 2017: Leaves 118 to join Harbour Unit as a rescue pilot 2017: Buck joins the 118 as a probie, effectively taking Tommy’s spot 2024: Returns in S7 as helicopter rescue pilot ✅ This version keeps everything lined up with Chimney’s and Buck’s established timelines — and explains how Tommy could’ve already been at the 118 before both of them.
✍️ Meta note: Tommy wasn’t originally meant to return. He was first mentioned back in Season 2 as part of the 118’s past — folded into the backstories of Hen, Chimney, and Bobby. — The writers clearly weren’t planning for him to show up again in Season 7. But now that he’s canon again... we get to be ✨creative✨ to make it all fit 😌
📎 Note: All timelines, ages, and years used here are based on canon clues, but the show itself plays fast and loose with dates. So everything here is assumptive, patched together with love, logic, and a dash of spirally elbow grease 🧵 Interpret with flexibility — because the writers sure do 😌 Don’t ask me why I did this. Send help.🚑🧑⚕️🏥
💬 If I missed something or fudged a date, feel free to correct me (kindly) — or stitch in your own version. I’m always down to spiral deeper. 🧵🔥

tomorrow, october 23 2024, spore will be getting an update to renew the server certificates.
there will be no new content.
however, this means that all mods that use the ModAPI sdk will break upon the 2024 update. .package files will not break and will be functional upon update. Most mods that work on the current (march 2017) version of the game will continue working fine, though many will need ModAPI and the Launcher Kit to be updated.
SMC community modders are currently working on an open-source mod that will backport the 2024 certificate updates to the march 2017 version so march 2017 update players can continue accessing servers. when it is released, i will post a link to it.
if you use the GOG or origin/EA versions of spore, you do not have to update your game and if you do not update, you will not be able to access the servers, but your mods will continue to function.
if you use modded steam spore, set your game's acf files to read-only. from the SMC discord:
there is a way for steam spore to be prevented from updating. Locate the folder SteamLibrary > steamapps
[it was Steam > steamapps for me, so it may be different for you.]
If you arent sure where you installed steam, right-click a steam game > manage > browse local files. You can backtrack from there. Most people have steam installed under "program files (x86)" but it depends.' Set the following two files to read only: appmanifest_24720.acf which is Galactic Adventures, and appmanifest_17390.acf which is Core Spore. You do this by right-clicking the file, then properties, then select "read-only" in the attributes section. When you DO want to update, remove the read-only flag.
as of right now i have already taken these steps, and hopefully my game will not cease to function upon update day, but i am spreading this information so we are all prepared for if it does stop functioning.
as a precaution to prevent outdated information from spreading, i will be turning off reblogs to this post once the situation is resolved.

It's wild that the whole global trend of gay-focused happy ending romance shows and movies has only been going on for *looks at calendar* a measly ten years!
Just ten years ago. 2014. That's when you get the discovery of a market for queer romance series and films with happy endings. That year the OG Love Sick in Thailand came out. Brazil puts out The Way He Looks, which deserves so much more credit than it receives for influencing the aeshtetics of the genre. Looking premieres on HBO, and although it had low ratings, it's an important touchstone. And, despite Nickelodeon’s censorship and shifting the program from tv to its website, the Legend of Korra confirms Korrasami in its season finale.
The next year, in 2015, we get Love Sick season 2, and China, pre-censorship laws has a few options: Happy Together (not the Wong Kar Wai one lol), Mr. X and I, and Falling In Love with a Rival. Canada, premieres Schitt's Creek. In the US, Steven Universe reveals Garnet as a romantic fusion between two female characters, and will proceed to just be so sapphic. Norwegian web series Skam premieres and sets up a gay protagonist for its third season, which will drop in 2016 and entirely change the global media landscape.
Then, 2016! This is the MOMENT. That aforementioned Skam season happens. Japan puts out the film version of Ossan's Love and anime series Yuri!!! on Ice. China has the impactful Addicted Heroine, which directly leads to increased censorship. The US has Moonlight come out and take home the Oscar. In Thailand, GMMTV enters the BL game and Thai BL explodes: Puppy Honey, SOTUS, Water Boyy, Make It Right, plus, the Thai Gay OK Bangkok, which, like its influence, Looking, is more in the queer tradition but introduces two dramatically important directors to the Thai BL industry, Aof and Jojo.
By 2017, Taiwan enters the game with its History series. Korea’s BL industry actually kicks off with Method and Long Time No See. Thailand’s got too many BLs to mention. Call Me By Your Name, though not a happy ending, makes a big splash that will send ripples through the whole genre, and God's Own Country offers a gruff counter-argument to problematic age differences and twink obsessions. This is also the year of Netflix reboot of One Day At a Time bringing some wlw to the screen, and the Disney Channel has a main character come out as ‘gay’ on Andi Mack ( I’m am ready to throw fists with anyone who thinks the Disney Channel aesthetic isn’t a part of current queer culture). And I'd be remiss not to mention the influential cult-following of chaotic web-series The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo: "Sometimes things that are expensive...are worse."
All this happened, and we hadn’t even gotten to Love, Simon, Elite, or ITSAY, yet.
Prior to all this there are some major precursors some of which signaled and primed a receptive market, others influenced the people who'd go on to create the QLs. Japan has a sputtering start in the 2010s with a few BL films (Takumi-Kun, Boys Love, and Jujoun Pure Heart). Most significantly in the American context, you have Glee, and its ending really makes way for the new era that can center gay young people in a world where queerness, due to easy access to digital information, is less novel to the characters. And the QL book and graphic novel landscape was way ahead of the television and film industries, directly creating many of the stories that the latter industries used.
There's plenty of the traditional queer media content (tragic melodramas and independent camp comedies) going on prior to and alongside QL, and there are some outlying queer romance films with happy endings that precede the era but feel very much akin to QL genre tropes and goals, many with a focus on postcolonial and multicultural perspectives (Saving Face, The Wedding Banquet, Big Eden, Maurice, My Beautiful Launderette, and Weekend). I don't mean to suggest that everything I’ve listed ought to be categorized as QL.
Rather, I want to point out how all of these new-era queer romance works are in a big queer global conversation together, in the creation of a new contemporary genre, a genre that has more capacity and thematic interest to include digital technology and normalize cross-cultural relationships than other genres (there's a reason fansubs and web platforms are so easily accepted and integrated to the proliferation of these series).
You're not too late to be part of the conversation. Imagine being alive in the 1960s and 70s and participating in the blossoming of the sci-fi genre. That flowering is where gay romance sits now. Join the party.
#just constantly gob-smacked to be alive right now#i know there's plenty of reason to be horrifically distressed about the condition of the world#queer history#thai bl#japanese bl#korean bl#chinese bl#skam

Ford GT40
The Ford GT40 is one of the most iconic cars in automotive history, renowned for its dominance in endurance racing during the 1960s. Here's the full story:
Origins:
In the early 1960s, Henry Ford II, known as "Hank the Deuce," was determined to beat Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the world's oldest active sports car race. Enzo Ferrari had rebuffed Ford's attempt to buy the Italian company, which led to Ford's determination to defeat Ferrari on the racetrack.
Development:
Ford tasked its newly acquired subsidiary, Ford Advanced Vehicles, with developing a car capable of winning Le Mans. The project was named GT (for Grand Touring) with the intention of building 100 road cars to homologate it for racing. Carroll Shelby, who had been involved in motorsports and had success with the Shelby Cobra, was brought in to manage the racing program.
GT40 Mark I:
The first iteration of the GT40, known as the Mark I, debuted in 1964. It was powered by a 4.7-liter V8 engine and showed promise but faced reliability issues.
GT40 Mark II:
Ford made significant improvements with the Mark II, featuring a 7.0-liter V8 engine, and refined aerodynamics. In 1966, Ford achieved its goal when the GT40 Mark II, driven by Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon, won the 24 Hours of Le Mans, marking the first time an American car had won the prestigious race outright.
GT40 Mark III:
In 1967, Ford introduced the GT40 Mark III, a road-going version of the race car. It featured a more luxurious interior and was intended for homologation purposes.
Continued Success:
The GT40 went on to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans three more times consecutively from 1966 to 1969, solidifying its place in motorsport history. Notably, the 1967 race saw an all-American victory with the GT40 Mk IV driven by Dan Gurney and A.J. Foyt.
Legacy:
The Ford GT40's dominance in endurance racing and its rivalry with Ferrari became legendary. It remains an icon of American automotive engineering and a symbol of Ford's determination to compete at the highest level of motorsport.
Modern Resurrection:
In the 2000s, Ford resurrected the GT nameplate with the Ford GT, a modern supercar inspired by the original GT40. The new Ford GT debuted in 2004 and again in 2017, paying homage to its predecessor while showcasing cutting-edge technology and performance.

How in the world do you make Minecraft look like that... ??? So inspiring! Weird and awesome... Also, I love the style you do for your MC skins- also very inspiring!!
Thank you..! Short answer: This video might illuminate some of my process.
Long answer: ... I could probably use this ask as a soft announcement/explanation of what I've been doing...!
Abiogenesis is the name of my current Minecraft project. It's a resource pack and data pack based on a very old version of itself from 2017 that I recently began enthusiastic work on again.
When you abandon a world for long enough, it will teach itself things.
I haven't been super forthcoming with it all because I'd like to keep as much of it a surprise as possible, but I've split it this way for those who are more interested in just exploring the creative possibilities and those who are more interested in the "weirder" stuff.
(Almost) all of the tiles are created from corrupted graphics harvested from ROMs using the Realtime Corrupter. I use Resource Pack Workbench, an old and (to my understanding) retired program to manage my files.
...
..Was that door always here...?

Phillip Jackson at HuffPost:
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) introduced a bill Wednesday that would give federal and state officials more power to hold police departments accused of bad behavior to account. The Enhancing Oversight to End Discrimination in Policing Act, led by Warren and in the House by Rep. Marilyn Strickland (D-Wash.), would strengthen the power of state attorneys general to launch investigations into police departments involved in civil rights violations if the Justice Department fails to act on them. The bill would also task the Justice Department with looking beyond “traditional law enforcement mechanisms” when providing reforms to selective police departments such as mental health support, civilian oversight bodies, and community-based restorative justice programs, according to Warren’s office.
Warren had introduced a version of the bill in 2020. This newest version of the measure would also revitalize the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division, granting an increase in funding to pursue civil rights investigations into police departments and other government offices accused of discriminatory practices. It would increase funding for the civil rights division to $445 million per year over a 10-year period. (For scale, the 2023 budget for the division was $189.9 million.)
Warren first introduced her bill following the death of George Floyd in 2020. That earlier draft also called for Attorney General Merrick Garland to rescind a 2017 memorandum from his predecessor, Trump-era Attorney General Jeff Sessions, that limited the DOJ’s ability to initiate consent decrees on police departments — a key way of stopping bad behavior. (Garland rescinded that memorandum in April of 2021.)
Nine senators co-sponsored the bill: Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Ed Markey (D-Mass.), Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), Peter Welch (D-Vt.), Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), and Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii). Several civil rights organizations are backing Warren’s new bill, including the American Civil Liberties Union, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the National Urban League and others.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and 9 other co-sponsors in the Senate are supporting the Enhancing Oversight to End Discrimination in Policing Act to strengthen police accountability. Rep. Marilyn Strickland (D-WA) is pushing this in the House.

Updated 100 Memorable Skating Programs
Back in 2018, I created the original version of this list. (You can find the master post here.) Since 2024 marks my 30th year as an official fan of figure skating and there have been some more great programs created since the last time, I thought it was about time to update the list in honor of World Ice Skating Day. Same rules apply as last time:
Only senior competitive programs starting from the 1993-1994 season are eligible, since that's the first season I really started watching figure skating.
Each skater may only be listed once, unless a partner/discipline switch is involved.
Choice of music may also not be repeated. (Yes, there are two James Bond programs on the list, but Yuna and Wakaba use different music for the most part, so I'm letting it slide.)
I debated long and hard about whether or not I should still include programs from skaters who have proven themselves to be not so great people. I'm someone who has little difficulty separating the art from the artist, so in the end, I decided to keep them listed (although most of them got knocked down a few pegs). This list is more about the choreography than the skater anyway, although there are certainly some problematic choreographers out there, too. (Looking at you especially, Morozov!) So, just because a skater is listed doesn't mean that I'm a fan of them or that I condone their actions! I just think certain programs are still great regardless of the skaters' terrible behavior off the ice.
Choreographers are noted if known. If you know who choreographed the programs without a choreographer named, please let me know!
I've also created a handy playlist on YouTube if you don't want to click on all these links.

Donald Trump's Evolving Signature Is a Bit Scary (at least to me✍🏻😱)
Donald Trump's Signature, February 25, 2025
I'm NOT a graphologist, but looking at the 2015, 2017, and 2025 of "Trump's evolving signature" above, his signature seems to me to be getting scarier with time.
In 2015, Politico asked "Michelle Dresbold, a graduate of the United States Secret Service's Advanced Document Examination training program" to analyze Trump's signature at the time (the one above left). This is what she said:
"Donald Trump’s signature has absolutely no curves, only angles. Curves in handwriting show softness, nurturing and a maternal nature. Angles show a writer who is feeling angry, determined, fearful, competitive or challenged. When a script is completely devoid of curves, the writer lacks empathy and craves power, prestige and admiration. Besides the bigheadedness that shows in this script there is something else that is rather over-sized—the 'p' in 'Trump.' This large phallic symbol shouts, 'Me … big hunk of man.'”
Yahoo's Jacqueline Leo noted the difference between Trump's signature in 2017 vs. 2015. They commented:
"If Dresbold’s analysis is even mildly correct, Trump has made a huge leap toward power since the election. Note, in particular, that the ‘p’ is now the largest element in the signature. The dramatic difference between the two signatures over the last 16 months is the difference between an uncertain candidate and a triumphant sitting president."
To me Trump's signature seems to be all spikey points in the 2017 and 2025 versions. Trump also uses a black Sharpie that to me makes his signature look like it's "shouting."
At least in Trump's 2015 signature you could vaguely make out letters. His later signatures look like a series of spikes (much like a lie detector printout) with large spikes on the ends and in the middle, which simultaneously evoke an impression of irritability, grandiosity, and a disposition to attack as a means of defense.
That's just my completely biased and subjective gut impression.🤷🏻♀️
But then again, even actual graphologists' interpretations are suspect, as graphology, according to JSTOR Daily, "has been deemed a pseudo-science by most."
Take all of this with a grain of salt.
Still, I hang onto my first impression that Trump's signature is kind of scary.

Adventure Maker (Windows, 1999-2013)
An easy-to-use first-person (primarily, but optionally third-person) adventure game engine, unsupported since 2013 and unavailable for purchase since 2017 (when the venerable Kagi registration service died). You can download it here.
You can find links to free games made with the program on the Wayback Machine here. Don't forget to check the linked sites on the live web too. Games listed as not working on Vista (and thus even following versions of WIndows) may work after using this patch from the Carol Reed series site (Carol Reed games 1-3 used to need it, but no longer do - the other games use other engines - game NINETEEN coming on Jan 1st!).

felt like reading homestuck so i tried going to the mspa (?) website but its down so i google how to read homestuck in the year 2025 and it takes me to reddit where people are talking about downloading a computer program to do that and i will not download shit so instead i google homestuck español and there it is the good old spanish fan translation of homestuck (european) but surprise theres also a latin american fan translation (new?! it did not exist when i first tried reading homestuck as a 13yo who didnt speak a word of english) so i skim some of both translations and sadly come to the conclusion that the European one is better on a technical level so i start reading homestuck in euro spanish. but some specific images are down especially the ones that link to other side comics on mspa so i hop back and forth between both fan translations to make up for the broken images on both until i reach a point where the latin american fan translation stops (rip never updated since 2017 and stuck on page 500 or so) and i think well. its been an honor. but when i eventually reach another broken page and it seems this one is plot relevant i start thinking how to see that image since og homestuck website is broken. and there i discover the portuguese brazilian homestuck fan translation. so at this point im reading homestuck on european spanish and occasionally im switching tabs to homestuck in portuguese as to not miss essential information. a friend is watching me do all this on my phone and so i explain that this is not the intended experience and shes like oh i thought reading homestuck meant you just had to switch to a portuguese version sometimes to get the plot
#despite what this post implies i havent made it that far yet and tbh if i get bored ill drop it#chizitxt
