AuDHD is so funny sometimes like what do you mean my hyperfixations/special interests will last for years on end or possibly forever but they will cycle out every month or two with absolutely no transitional period or warning. like i will think about the same topic every day obsessively for 46 days in a row and on the 47th day with no visible cause adhd brain goes "ok! bored of that now" and autism brain goes "dw i got something queued up for ya" and i blast into full blown obsession on some other topic whose mental file folders haven't opened in 9 months. brain's out here treating hyperfixations like a crop rotation. once the dopamine runs out it cycles in another one but once something's in the rotation it never ever leaves. last summer we brought in one from when i was 11. it's so funny to me but frustrating too bc like. i cannot stress enough my inability to predict or control this. or how completely abrupt and random it can be

EDIT: seems this is more common among ND people than i thought, and probably not limited to AuDHD specifically :] i was just describing my own experiences and didn't expect this post to blow up, so don't take me for an authority, but i'm glad it resonated with so many of y'all!

i have been reading through the diary I kept from ages 14-17 and realising how helpful it can be to keep a record of how you're feeling at different moments.

not only is it helpful to write down and process how your feeling and give yourself time to truly think about it, it's nice to have something to look back on. to not just remember how you felt about a certain situation but to actually have yourself from that time tell you.

and also, from an adhd perspective, it's really lovely to have reminders of things I'd almost entirely forgotten. it's easy to think that your life right now isn't interesting, but in 5 years time? to know what songs you were listening to or book you were reading or even that Thing that you were so worried about but now you can't even remember the details. it's nice to have a physical reminder that time passes and things really can get better.

I like to think that Sam has a notebook that has very detailed notes dedicated to Castiel about human stuff. Which is how he was able to leave Castiel notes because he had them previously prepared. Such as the how to use a computer notes. It can be something like how to use a word document to how to use a toaster without breaking it. But also important human interaction stuff such as why people might've been staring at you strangely part x. There's always more to add to that edition. But it's something that Sam keeps to himself until the moment arises. He has saved copies on his laptop just in case for Jack but he always gives the handwritten ones to Cas knowing the angel prefers handwritten notes over printed. Even after Cas was taken to the Empty and Jack took upon the God role Sam found himself writing tips just in case. Ignoring the fact that he knew they'd never be needed again but not wanting to let go of that hope that be might see them again.
