Today was the second day of competition at the Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy, and the Junior and Senior events started.

Shiyeong Lee of South Korea and Jiarui Li of Hong Kong lead the Senior and Junior Men's events respectively.

Novice events also took place.

Aayla stepped into the Utility B ring at Nationals and pulled out her best and got a 198/200 only a half point behind the winner with some impressive competition. Some of the biggest names in obedience for Australian Shepherds and Aayla ranked second, only a HALF POINT behind.

ykw i never thought of competing b4 for crossfit since im only a year in but i think i may shift my aims toward that goal in the future as i progress

bc let’s face it i would love to be a local vegan crossfit competitor. there are so few vegan crossfitters out there… and fewer still who are women.

if i could really get good enough, like really really get technique perfect enough, i could do something REAL with this at whatever level i enter in and show how zero percent the body needs animal products to achieve strength and stamina. i could be a decent example of that not just for women but for vegan women even just by getting good enough to enter. i don’t have to win or even do great, i just have to keep qualifying and showing up.

i also have a background story that could be educational and inspiring for women who have had EDs (i started from 79lbs of osteoporosis and catabolic wasting conditions) and women who have struggled with cosmetic surgery complications/chronic illness/disabilities/autoimmune disorders etc etc…

maybe visibility via local competition is a worthy goal to train for. hm. we shall see

So for a while I was like ‘oh this Miku trend is cute, I prolly won’t do anything tho bc I’m white usamerican’ but then I remembered I used to do Irish dance! So I designed her a solo dress n gave her some glorious curls

Solo dresses, also called trophy dresses, are all unique. They’re custom made (though a lot of people buy them used) and astronomically expensive, around the price range of wedding dresses.

Now they’re called trophy dresses for a very good reason. At an Irish dance competition, called a Feis (pronounced f-EH-sh), categories are divided by age and skill. For the first three categories, Beginner 1, Beginner 2, and Intermediate, you can advance to the next category by earning a first, second, or third place medal. However, for Novice, the fourth category, you can only advance out by winning gold.

As you can imagine this creates quite a bottleneck and many people stay stuck in Novice. Advancing out is a huge achievement, and it means you have won the right to perform in a solo dress. I remember going to competitions and seeing girls as young as 8 or 9 walking around in these things and being super impressed, but in fairness the Novice category is relatively small at that age while being absolutely packed for the 14/15s

Also as another fun tidbit, since they’re custom made and often at the whim of teens and tweens, a lot of them are extremely ugly lol. But most of them are very cool!

Today was the third day of competition at the Cranberry Cup International, and the final day of competition for Juniors and Advanced Novice.

Yanhao Li of New Zealand won the Junior Men's title, while Emilia Nemirovsky of the US won the Junior Women's. Zachary Lopinto of the US won Advanced Novice Boys, while Lia Cho of Canada won the Advanced Novice Girls.

"She is probably eligible for Finals in Texas" is something I clearly remember my friend saying as Aayla got her Novice title in ASCA this past April. It wasn't even something I knew about or was on my Radar. I just wanted to hurry through novice and open to start working on her UD like I was for AKC.

Due to a barky run, she had one 193, it was suggested that I replace it for a higher score. Then I got offered a ride to nationals and was told I could stay for cheap in a stall in the obedience area. The spark there started thinking I could make this happen and we could go.

I entered in novice B for a fourth time in May to get a 196 and secure Aayla's spot in Novice Finals. When the standings came out, Aayla was dog #4 in novice with a 199, 196.5 and 196. The dogs ahead of her were in the 196-200 score range. Two dogs were scoring similar to her as well. So I was excited to go and hoped to place in the middle of the 10 dogs that were attending.

Except for a weird judge issue that caused an NQ for the first pre trial, the second pre trial went well and Aayla got her highest score in utility to date with a 195. Her heeling was doing great and I was really looking forward to finals.

For finals you do two full runs under two different judges and combine the score. NQs on an exercise are just points loss not NQed from placing. So we did our two group stays first then started our individual exercises.

Aayla got a 195 on her first run. She two slow sits that lost us our 5 points. I somewhat watched the other runs, thinking we did well in the group of people. After everyone finished my friend ran up and told me that Aayla was in the lead by several points. Even if everyone else got a perfect score, Aayla would only need to get a 196 on the next run to win overall.

For the next run Aayla only had one slow sit, but had an auto finish on the recall. She got a 194. A few of those dogs had a history of getting 199-200 scores in novice before so I held my breath.

My friend (the obedience chair, who can't wait for any surprises) came up, grabbed me and said we got it.

Aayla was the Novice Finals Champion.

….a chic umbrella that screams "I don't do tan lines" (you didn’t know umbrellas might be chic? wel, you’ve obviously never met astarion, you poor soul)

struts around in Dior or Armani swim trunks that probably cost more than everyone else’s entire beach wardrobe (taste, darling)

throws subtle shade at anyone who dares to get sand near his setup

𓇼 Gale 𓇼

sitting next to Astarion under the chick umbrella, reading a brick-tome that looks way too heavy for a beach day

loose, unbuttoned shirt flapping in the breeze, looking like he's ready to casually narrate the next chapter of his life

dips into the water only to cool off, then returns to his book (wears a wide brimmed hat while swimming because sunburns are for novices)

brings some fruits, maybe homemade snacks i(f he’s feeling particulary extra)

puts on sunglasses, claiming it’s for “eye protection,” but really so he can unashamedly observe everyone else (astarion observes everyone at the beach as well, but making no effort to hide it though)

𓇼 Halsin 𓇼

totally would have preferred to go to a nudist beach, but hey, what won’t he do for his party?

sunbathes directly under the scorching rays, basking in nature's warm embrace

gives off major retired surfer vibes—minus the board, plus a lot of wisdom about underwater ecosystems

spends most of the day diving, befriending the fish, and enthusiastically recounting his underwater adventures to Shadowheart

as the sun sets, he meditates, he’s body looking positively glorious as the golden light hits just right

𓇼 Wyll 𓇼

rolls in with a cooler full of chilled beer, instantly becoming everyone’s favorite person

the one who’s super into every beach sport there is

performs cartwheels and somersaults, showing off a little (endd up with a head full of sand)

borrows Halsin’s goggles and disappears for an hour or two, only to resurface with a story about an underwater adventure

comforts a crying child who lost their bucket, instantly becoming a hero of the beach

𓇼 Karlach 𓇼

alexa, play starships by nicki minaj

fearless of the sun—probably doesn’t even know what sunscreen is

the most grateful for Wyll's beer, probably cracking open a can before she even sets up her towel (if it's a bottle, she’ll open it with her teeth)

hypes everyone up for a beach volleyball match, whether they want to play or not

dominates the game with killer serves, yelling “BOOM!” every time she scores

𓇼 Shadowheart 𓇼

aka Wednesday Addams on vacation, complete with a black swimsuit and a hat so big it casts shade on half the beach

floats around on an floatie, giving off strong “don’t bother me” vibes

quietly builds a sandcastle that turns out to be an architectural masterpiece (It’s somehow both gothic and impressive)

doesn’t know how to swim but hasn’t admitted it to anyone. Instead, she’s perfected the art of looking mysterious while staying close to the shore

smiles at dogs playing in the distance

𓇼 Lae’zel 𓇼

laughs in the face of sunburn

side-eyes Astarion and Gale applying sunscreen, muttering something about “weakness” under her breath

joins Shadowheart for a few minutes of sandcastle building, then pretends she wasn’t enjoying it

hyper-competitive during beach volleyball, diving for every ball like it’s a life-or-death situation

inevitably gets sunburned, grudgingly wears Gale’s hat, and glares at anyone who dares to mention it
