Just so we are all really clear: Republicans are using the manufactured debt ceiling “crisis” as a bargaining chip, threatening to blow up the U.S. (and world?) economy unless Biden caves in to cutting things like food benefits for women, children, the poor and the working poor. Got it? That’s their deal—either eviscerate the social safety net, or economy go boom!
No doubt, a lot of liberals are pressuring Biden to acquiesce, because 1) the economy will absolutely positively go boom! and 2) because they will blame Biden if the economy crashes
BUT..! Here’s the thing: If Biden does cave in and give Republicans even a little bit of what they are demanding, I fuckn promise you that in October and November of next year, Republican ads are going to be like: “Vote for Trump! Remember how Biden cut food benefits for women and children? Trump won’t do that”
And it will not matter how many 8k high quality videos you have showing that it was really Republicans who took the economy hostage and demanded those cuts. By time the general election rolls around in ‘24, Republicans will be airing ChatGPT AI political ads where it looks like Biden was the one asking for all the cuts to SNAP and demanding ridiculously harder work requirements
Believe that!!
Did you even see those ignorant charlatans eating from Trump’s hands on CNN?? These are bomb throwers. They enjoy blowing up the economy, especially when it hurts poor people! You cannot in good faith make any policy decision about what to do based off of what Republican voters “might think” when it’s election time! They don’t “think” AT ALL, and even if they did, they still do not care! They’re unscrupulous deplorables. They will always always always find a way to blame Biden and the Democrats, no matter what, so Biden may as well go on and do what’s right while he can, and try actually fighting against these cartoonishly evil Republicans
AND..! Do I even need to remind anyone what happens when you cave in to bullies?? If Biden caves now, then Republicans will bully every Democrat from here on out, and the programs they take hostage next time will be Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid
Caving in to the whims of Kevin pickme! McCarthy and Marjorie Traitor Greene is bad politics, and it will only get worse in the future if Biden folds now

Currently reading a story where Frigga goes to Earth with Thor without Odin knowing and it has me thinking:
WHY DIDN'T THIS HAPPEN IN CANNON‽‽
Loki was fighting with Thor before he let go and Loki had issues with Thor and Odin! (Not that he likely didn't with Frigga, but he was able to TALK with her CALMLY!)
If Frigga had gone things would have been VERY different!

Norse Mythology Vanished
Tumblr media
You know what's sad? How little we know about Norse Mythology. Like, there are so many gods and goddesses and heroes and stories that used to exist, that just... don't anymore. Some scholars compare our knowledge of Norse Mythology now to if our entire knowledge of Greek Mythology consisted only of Herculean and Thesean myths. Of course, that's not exactly accurate; it's based off all the references in ancient texts to stories we can no longer find, as well as certain stories like Beowulf, which was likely originally about a Son of Thor but was altered by Christianity, but it's still pretty sad to think about.
Like, by all likelihood, there was probably a huge epic, on par with the Titanomachy in Greek Mythology, or the war over Amrit between Asuras and Devas Hindu Mythology, between the Aesir and Vanir in Norse Mythology, but now... it's gone. Lost in time. Same with so many different gods and goddesses. I mean, we really only know of like, 3 Vanir, but there were definitely wayyy more.
The reasoning for this is also pretty annoying; in the 11th century, the Church began moving to Iceland, and once Christianity had settled over Iceland, they began recording and archiving Norse myths. However, they also began throwing out a lot of it; whatever the Church thought was dangerous or unneeded was either burnt and discarded, or altered heavily to be more Christian.
Idk man, it's just so annoying for me
Anyways have a great day yall.

When you find a fic about a time-period you're interested (Loki posing as Odin) BUT the author turned it into Loki propaganda of "Loki would be the best king that would fit MY POLITICAL IDEALS" ugh...
I'm here for Loki coping with grief and near-death, and the trauma of posing as Odin. And Loki trying to cope through bad theatre. Loki being resentful that he gets less pushback as Odin than when he was the "rightful" ruler. Not that! And I think he did ok as king despite TR wanting me to believe reduced military intervention is bad because Disney controls the narrative. The funny thing is Disney controlling the narrative will make the bad guys seem better sometimes.
Anyway, I HC everyone was too scared to tell "Odin" that his play was bad. Odin being erratic due to the grief. And such.

A rant about Loki - Where Mischief Lies
Loki - Where Mischief Lies is probably one of my favorite Loki contents, the book portrays this young Loki and a bit of his life in Odin’s court, it dives deep in his magic and how he feels growing up as a sorcerer in a warrior’s society, it also shows his relationship with Amora, who in the story is Karnilla’s apprentice and heir to the throne of Nornheim, Karnilla is the Norn Queen and Odin’s royal sorceress.
I think I love the book so much because Mackenzie Lee (the author) is not afraid to explain to the readers what’s going on inside Loki’s head. Sometimes I feel like I'm reading some meta analysis of the character (and I mean that as a compliment!), she really understands Loki, what his motivations are and portrays him as this charming young boy who’s so insecure about who he is but is so eager to please his father, to prove himself worthy of the title of prince of Asgard, to impress Amora, to be a good sorcerer, to be a good soldier, a good son, he is just desperate for someone to see his value, even though he doesn’t see any value in himself.
The book is supposed to show us who Loki was before he became the villain of the Avengers, before he embraced his role as a antagonist and in my opinion it does a really good job on that, we see how reluctant he is to accept that in the beginning of the story, but by the end he is sadly ready to take the mantle of The Villain and to become the awful man everyone around him assumes him to be.
Right at the beginning of the story we see a boy who lives under the pressure of being a son of Odin and a prince of Asgard, Loki says at some point:
“He wished he could afford not to care, not to feel like everything he did right or wrong was ticked off in a corresponding column and kept on file for the day Odin would name either him or Thor as the heir to the Asgardian crown.”.
Now, that is a lot of pressure for someone to grow up under, and this bit is specially heartbreaking to me because we as an audience know that Odin has no intents to put Loki in the throne of Asgard, but the boy feels like he has the responsibility to prove himself worthy of the throne, he feels like he is failing his father and his people and he is also so immensely alone, he has no friends in court until Amora arrives and no one in Asgard has a good opinion on her. Loki is very clearly in love with her, I find so sweet the way he describes how he feels when around her, he’s like this teen awkwardly in love for the first time, he sees her as a model of perfection, he wants to be like her, she is everything he ever dreamed to be: confident, skilled with magic, strong, witty and funny.
There's a few moments where he talks about himself and we can see that the self loathing is strong, he despises all the things that make him him and would gladly throw it all away if it meant he could become Asgard’s “ideal prince”, wich by the way is Thor, that’s it, in Loki’s opinion (and apparently in Asgard’s opinion) Thor is the perfect prince, he is blonde, muscular, strong, and an excellent warrior, Loki even says:
“The gods could not have handcrafted a more obvious model of kingship than Thor”.
Loki praises him (not out loud of course) for his appearance and describes himself as
“the scraps of (Thor’s) silhouette, the part that was discarded on the workshop floor to be swept up and tossed into the fire—thin and pale, with a hooked nose and black hair that hung flat to the nape of his neck, where it flipped into an unflattering curl. While Thor’s skin bronzed in the sun so that he seemed made of armor, Loki was pale as milk, and soured just as easily.”
It’s very clear Loki does not think much of himself, he hates pretty much everything that makes him unique and is very sad to see how desperate he is to fit in, to belong. We see his desperation when he talks about Amora arriving at court, he says he had never interacted with another sorcerer besides his mother and states that he thought of Amora as an equal, someone just like him. In his first conversation with her we can see clearly how unsure of himself he is, he wants to be more confident and open but fears she’ll not find him interesting enough to talk to him:
“He wanted to sit beside her, but somehow that felt too presumptuous, a bold assumption that he was interesting enough for her to want around.”
That almost seems like another character entirely, right? Imagine Loki from the MCU, that arrogant man who treated everyone else as being beneath him as a shy, insecure teenager who was scared the girl he had a crush on would not want to talk to him. That’s why I love that book so much, it shows who Loki really was before adopting the persona of the God of Mischief. The way he describes some of their interactions is literally so sweet and relatable, he really was just a boy in love with the new girl in town, there’s a bit where they’re in the gardens and this happens:
“Loki sank down beside her, close enough that their knees pressed together. Even through the hazy gloom lingering from his conversation with Thor, an electric shiver went through him when she didn’t pull away from his touch. No matter how small that touch was.”
This is so sweet, he is so in love with her, is so shy and insecure, he is always nervous when around her, always trying to hide things she would consider weaknesses, it’s clear he considers himself to be weak, as i said before he despises himself and all of his particularities.
He is also always seeing other people as being superior to him, is always looking down on himself and trying to be someone else, someone he thinks is who he should be. He wants to be accepted so bad, he wants to be loved, wants to know that he belongs in his family, wants to be just a good prince as Thor is, wants to feel seen by his father, this may sound silly but he just wants attention, he is tired of feeling inadequate, he is desperate for Odin to acknowledge his value and to consider him worthy of his attention.
Loki is almost obsessed with his father, everything he does he does to impress him, sadly he never succeeds, each time he creates a scheme to praise Odin he fails and his opinion on Loki only gets worse, Odin starts to see Loki as this corrupted man with darkness in his soul, with an evil and calculating nature and a danger to Asgard.
What he fails to realize is that Loki at his core is just (as Mobius himself put in the series) a scared little boy, he needs guidance and validation from the person he considers the most, he depends so much on Odin’s opinion of him, he lets it define who he is, he is not strong enough to stand up against this perception of himself, probably because he hasn’t got a single friend, no one he can be vulnerable with without fear of judgment, he bears his burden alone and is nearly falling apart under the weight of everything he has on his shoulders, he really needs someone he can be real with, but he probably will never feel comfortable enough with anyone to let his guard down.
He doesn’t even allow himself to be in love, when he realizes he’s starting to become too fond with people he immediately pushes them back, he puts on the act of the cold, bad guy, but at the same time he is desperate for connection, contradictory fellow innit?
Loki struggles with his need for love and acceptance and the fear of showing his true colors to people around him, he views himself as weak and he’s not willing to show weakness to anyone, he needs a friend he can be real with (and I feel the Loki series has hit the nail in the head with Mobius, he is exactly the kind of friend Loki needs), a friend who sees the man behind the mask of villainy and is willing to accept Loki for who he is.
I couldn’t help but feel impotent reading the book because at some parts you really wants to jump on the pages and hold him close to you, whilst telling him everything will be okay and that he is enough, that his worth is not tied to Odin perspective of him and that he is capable of doing everything he ever dreamed and more.
Well, that was quite a long post, sorry if I talked too much, this book is so important to me as a Loki fan, I could rant about it for hours!

#in tags cos I'm not tryna start disk horse I just feel like ranting a bit about it cos it annoys me ahsmdhsbsgd#i'm tired of the prevalent attitude in a lot of RPG video game fandoms that men VAs suck and deserve to be ridiculed for no reason ahrbdgdgd#like it's been going on for so many years i'm tired i'm over it i'm done#having a preference for the female VAs and character options is fine lord knows i prefer to play them myself#but like mark meer??? gavin drea??? aren't bad actors???#it's a different performance and interpretation but like they're at worst FINE (but also actually good)#even in games where i have a very big preference for the female VA (ac odyssey and valhalla) the guy is still good???#i'm not big into alexios or meivor but i think their performances as deimos and odin respectively are brilliant for those stories#(and that's really a flaw in the fact they were not supposed to be main character options originally and were rewritten for that)#(so it's not on the VAs but ubisoft being dumbasses who fear making a woman the sole protagonist)#ANYWAY i know it's not that serious but it's so weird seeing people in tags on a certain post being so... nasty#about people they don't know and who afiak have been nothing but kind and appreciative of their fandoms#thank fuck honestly that bg3 doesn't have full voiced Tavs/Durges cos i know people would be freaks about the guys there too#also in games as big as these massive RPGs it's rarely just one voice director for the whole project#so a lot of the times a big reason these voice performances are very different is they're likely being directed by different people#sometimes different directors for different scenes so like. there's a lot of things that can change from page to performance because of that

The worst Norse god tropes I have seen in popular culture.
Inspired by @aimee-maroux and @my-name-is-apollo
Odin: Shiny king who never makes war.
Frigg: Useless passive queen
Thor: Too clueless or too aggressive, no in-between.
Loki: Softy uwu boi
Heimdall: Plot device character
Sif: Isn't that the woman with the sword??
Hel: Psychopat murderer
Njord: who?
Frey: whO??
Freya: wHO???
Idunn: WHO????
Skadi: Isn't that a brand of popsicles?
Týr: NO, sErIoUsLy, WHOOOOOOO?
The rest of the Aesir, Vanir, Elves, Dwarves, Valkyries, Jotun: *Cricket sounds*
Balder: Norse Jesus Christ

Jesus God Lordt please give me skrenth 🙏🏿
PLEASE
I am trying sO damn hard rn not to fucking explode on my great aunt but she is insistent on carrying on a “religious” conversation that I’ve told her that I don’t wanna discuss any further. That’s YOUR fucking hang up, not mine. I left her house, she calls me. I ended the phone conversation, and now she’s texting me
I try to always respect my elders, but …… whew boy do y’all make it hard af sometimes
We very literally have an extended family member who did hard time in prison for hiring a hit man to murder someone, and everyone still invites them to family gatherings because all is forgiven, God’s graces and all that fucking kumbaya bullshit—but another family member who is (gasp!) gay got y’all permanently bent outta shape????
Mind you, the person who hired the hit man was never contrite, never repented, never apologized, never even said, “My bad. I’m sorry, that was wrong of me,” and everyone just regurgitates some bullshit about “don’t judge” or “God forgives” ….. but a lesbian—a blood relative—who has lived an EXTREMELY fucking exemplary life is beyond forgiveness, is shunned, not talked about and isn’t invited to any family functions???
This right here is why people learn to hate or reject religion completely. The rank hypocrisy
And this is coming from me, someone who had two grandmothers who were both preachers; and a mother who is a preacher; and from someone who was raised in the Pentecostal church, and as a kid, who had to go to church every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and twice on Sundays until sports gave me an excuse to not go
JFC I am sO fucking heated rn
I refuse to knock religion writ large because I am aware that not all religious people have these homophobic + transphobic beliefs. I know this because I have personally met them, and they are more than a few. And that’s without even getting into other non-American religions. And I’ve also met plenty of deeply racist, misogynistic, homophobic atheists in my brief 39yrs
And note to white people: you don’t need to be religious for that fuckery. White supremacy doesn’t need a church structure to make it happen. Just look at Wall Street and Silicon Valley if you doubt me. They’re hardly dens of religion or Christianity
And Black evangelicals don’t got nothing on their white evangelical counterparts. I just personally hate it that sO many Black people—my people—get suckered into respectability politics via religion. It’s got some of my elders stuck somewhere between subservient Chicken George and Uncle Ruckus mentalities
And they can’t even see it
That’s the sad, frustrannoying part
Anyway, maybe I’m just being a little weird, but I will gladly take an LGBTQ person over someone who attempted to have someone murdered in cold blood

Every time I think about Odin i think about Beg for Mercy by Oceans Divide. I know so many were thinking similar things about him. They wrote his character specifically so that up til the end and even after you sorta think he can be saved but only if he gets a conscience. It makes his whole character and story in gow really sad. Because you realize he's not actually redeemable and that breaks Freya's heart because at one point she had to actually love him. She had his child and loved that child so much she broke him. And to realize that no matter what they do Odin can't be saved or spared is really sad.

As soon as my next paycheck comes in, after bills I’m ordering one of those bars that lock underneath door handles and make it impossible for someone to get in. Ngl I also wish I had the ability to have a travel dog/companion. Dogs are among my favorite animals and I wanna care for one someday- but it would also be a really nice benefit to have the added security of a dog. Especially because I would prefer a big dog.
I normally never have issues traveling, because work is fairly decent about putting us in safer areas. Most of the time you never have to worry beyond basic travel safety. However in rare instances it DOES get sketchy in some places, and I need to be better prepared for that.

go on a rant about ultimate thor
CW: Nazi mention
I shall! This took a while to gather.
So it starts out with runes and a bunch of Nazi symbols ON THE VERY FIRST PAGE. This comic reinforces the incorrect notion that the Black Sun symbol is a Pagan symbol when IT IS NOT.
Tumblr media
I do actually like the whole "People think it's all on Thor's head" aspect, but the rest of the writing is just convoluted and incoherent. I also find this factoid thrown around in an exchange a cool explanation of how Mjolnir works.
Tumblr media
Dr.Donald Blake makes an appearance and he's not Thor's mortal alter ego created through Odin's magic to teach Thor humility.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We are shown interactions between a masked Nazi, "Baron Zemo" and the Nazis at Wewelsburg castle. Zemo shows them this little stones with runes, and they go on about how the Sacred texts of the "Poetic Edda" show how to use them. *facepalm* I just find this very lazy concept-wise.
Then we see flashbacks to "eons ago" in Asgard. Where Balder is fighting giants only to receive help from Loki and Thor. At some point Loki saves Thor from a Frost giant and warns him about watching his back, a rather heavy-handed foreshadowing. Loki also keeps going off about how Ragnarok is real and WILL HAPPEN. Balder mocks him for being grin and throws a snowball at him. Loki is worried about the constant war and attacks from Jotunheim. Balder reveals he knows Odin is building a secret weapon, Mjolnir, that he commissioned to the troll Ulik. It seems like Loki didn't get his lips sewn shut in this.
Then we're sent back to Nazi Germany and are bombarded by magic mumbo-jumbo that I can't bring myself to care for. Something about opening a gate. The most unrealistic aspect is that the Nazis want to fight the Gods of Asgard despite the existence of white supremacist Norse pagan circles such as the Asatru and Odinists (unless it's Loki because they usually hate them).
Tumblr media
Then, apparently they've allied with the Frost Giants, whom will be revealed to be under a peace treaty with Asgard that has harsh stipulations.
Tumblr media
I actually liked how they use MRI to reveal Thor is actually a God.
Tumblr media
So, the war with Jotunheim ends. I have trouble understanding the throne picture regarding "Who's who?" I think Farbauti is in the Moon throne with the Jotuns. I wonder if the other woman is Frigga/Freyja? Because unlike most comic book runs, Loki is actually biologically related to Thor as a half-brother. Odin (most likely through some threat) made Farbauti have Loki and had him reside in Asgard to "ensure peace". Which screams hostage situation. By the time the story takes place, Farbauti, Loki, and Loki's fully Frost giant brother are stuck in Asgard. Jotunheim's fall made Farbauti despondent and so Loki has mommy issues here and is driven by them to get Asgard to fall and earn his despondent mother's love. Also, for some reason Farbauti looks like an Asgardian with black hair. It's never explained WHY. Is this magic? Did Odin do this to her?
Tumblr media
Also, Asgardians like to fight very scantily clad. I find it funny how Balder and Loki have color-coordinated underwear. And I think Thor was given the same as the W3 to show how "down-to-Earth" he is. LMAO. There's very bad and heavy-handed foreshadowing of Loki's betrayal again, when Loki decides to turn against Thor in the game, and Loki continues to warn in a ridiculously ominous manner about change and such (It gets so tiring...). Balder goes on a fatphobic rant towards Volstagg during the fighting games because the writer thought that was funny. I am surprised Balder won instead of Thor. But Balder proceeds to go off about how Thor is the only one that can lift Mjolnir in the typical praiseworthy fashion of these comics.
Tumblr media
We go back to the Nazis and the alliance of the Jotuns with them. MORE MAGICAL BULLSHIT JARGON I HAVE TROUBLE CARING ABOUT.
Tumblr media
Thor asks Odin about Mjolnir's power. I gotta say I REALLY hate Odin's design in this. And he spends a lot of time shirtless. In a break from tradition, Thor is already "the humble one" rather than an arrogant proud and violent prince that needs to learn humility. And that makes this even worse and feel preachy. Thor's appeal is that he doesn't start as a good guy.
Tumblr media
The Nazis and Frost Giants open the bifrost gate. Heimdall appears and attacks them. Baron Zemo shoots an arrow through Heimdall's skull (seriously he's very good with arrows).
Tumblr media
This is how the Odinson brothers are drawn in this series. Guess which one they made into a Nazi ? (a) Is it the brown-haired white dude that's not a "peace offering" and also a heir to Asgard's empire? (left) (b) What about the guy that fits the exact "Aryan ideal" , is not a "peace offering", and is the preferred heir to Asgard?(right) OR (c) Is it the one that's constantly referred as a "half-breed", was drawn with suspiciously Native American facial features, and who was born to his Jotun mother as a "peace offering"? (middle)
Tumblr media
If you picked C, you're unfortunately correct. And Ta-Da! The twist we all saw coming from a mile away they tried to disguise by having Loki change his eye color to brown (odd choice for allying with Nazis)!
Tumblr media
Then the Nazis, the half-breed Loki, and Frost giants partake in an antisemitic trope of blood-drinking the whitest mfs around to gain the superior Asgardian strength. And IDK this is the worst way to show you hate Nazis...
Tumblr media
The art seems to be deteriorating. The Frost Giants and Nazis start Ragnarok, Odin comments that Loki's back from banishment. There's a flashback to Balder catching Loki looking at the stupid stones and Loki kills him. Balder for some reason is Odin's "all-seeing eye" has a weird connection to Odin.
Tumblr media
The purpose of the facility Thor is being studied is eugenics.... and they're not the villains...
Tumblr media
Thor goes off about his memories of the Asgardian Black sun and I need people to stop fomenting the myth that it's a pagan symbol. We go back to Asgard being attacked. Odin sends Loki to "a room with no doors." Loki is unrepentant for the evulz.
Tumblr media
Odin is killed by an Ice Wolf who is in turn killed by Thor. And we have this sappy shit.
Tumblr media
Then in another very badly executed twist and against comic tradition, it turns out tha Dr. Donald Blake was actually BALDER ALL ALONG.
Tumblr media
Apparently Odin plans to remake Asgard. They go back to the lab and this guy trips me up because he looks like a beardless Thor in a lab coat. ¡Que cientifico tan mamadisimo!
They are studying Thor's harness and such. Trying to reverse engineer it and add more features. Only Thor can use it so that's why he's kept around. Then Thor asks them to make him a hammer. Then Thor goes around being a white savior, and gets offers from the US military because he's special enough to help in the army.
Oh and there's the masked Nazi again (Loki) and some other one fucking around with the stones again. Magic bs happens.
Tumblr media
Loki makes the Hulk go apeshit and unites the Avengers in the typical fashion of the comics. Thor saves the day. Bleh bleh. THE END.
