I can't imagine the pain.
Word Count: 3,262
TW: child loss, grief and grieving, discussion of death. See AO3 for complete tags.
Special thanks to @angelfishofthelord and @shirtlesscastiel who both asked for a part 2, as well as @featherasscas , who's reblogged part 1 more times than I can count
Companion to this, + also on AO3. [Masterpost]
Castiel stayed on the ground, broken, for what felt like hours, lacking the strength to look away from the devastation of his grief.
He stayed there so long that the Winchesters gave up hope. They mumbled something about Chuck and the end of all things, of the ghosts that Cas’ total grief had obliterated and how they might not have been all that was released. Castiel didn’t care. He didn’t have it in him to, and maybe the Winchesters saw that. Dean tried to touch his shoulder, maybe even offer an apology, but Castiel shot him a look that ended the conversation they had been dancing around for years. They left him in that graveyard with what was left of his son.
He almost prayed, but what could an angel do to reverse God’s will? No, he needed to do something else. He was desperate enough to try anything he thought would work.
Bargaining. Maybe he could strike up another deal. Whatever the price was, he would pay it happily. He would give his life in a heartbeat, just like before, if it would bring Jack back.
He reached out to Death directly.
He felt Billie’s presence before he saw them and slowly turned as they offered a laid back “Hey.”
“Bring him back.”
“Can’t.”
“Can’t or won’t?”
“Both,” Billie replied. They raised a brow as Castiel drew his blade. “Killing me again? That seems a little redundant.”
“If you won’t bring him back then maybe your replacement will.”
“Everything has its time, Castiel and everything dies.”
“And it wasn’t his time! His story isn’t done!”
“God said otherwise.”
“You’re going to let God do your job? Kill Jack and wreck the order?”
“God isn’t wrecking anything. Every story has different endings. This was one.”
“Then change it.”
“It’s already happened. It can’t be undone.” Billie’s voice was gentler than Castiel expected when they continued. “It’s not fair, or kind, or right, but it’s life. You need to make your peace with that.”
“No.” Billie’s brows drew together and if Castiel didn’t know better, he would think that it was from pity. Even as he spoke, he felt the tip of his angel blade drop. “I can’t accept this, he can’t be...”
“He is. And nothing you do will change that, regardless of what your time with the Winchesters has taught you.”
Castiel felt the lurching ill sensation rise up again.
“What if I go to the Empty directly?”
“Then you die. It keeps both you and Jack. But you know how the Empty works.”
“I still won’t get to see him...say anything...”
Billie touched his shoulder, a rare gesture of remorse from Death incarcerate. “He’s gone, Castiel, but he can live on in you.”
Castiel didn’t answer, and Death left him to grieve.
Even as time ticked by, Castiel was at a loss for what to do. In the dust, he drew the Enochian sigil to create a portal to Heaven, paid it enough attention that for a moment he could pretend Jack was sitting in the truck playing on his phone.
Castiel almost called his brothers and sisters down to open the portal, to take both Jack and him from the Earth, to let them rest for the first time in years. He wanted Jack to know the peace that used to exist in Heaven, the safety of the place he had once called home. More than that, he wanted to be at peace, to quell the anguish and anger writhing in his chest. It would be easier to go back to proper angelhood, forget what it was to feel.
Emotions had never brought him anything but trouble. They’d lost him his family, his home, his friends, his life…
Still, his tongue wouldn’t speak the words to bring his siblings down. He remembered how they’d treated Jack, and him. The angels had manipulated Jack just as the Winchesters had, and they would do so again if given the chance.
Even dead, Jack could still be used as a weapon. His body harbored the remains of not only nephil grace, but also that of the archangel Michael. Those were both cosmic; they would endure longer than his body.
As much as it sickened him, Castiel realized a hard truth.
Not only was Jack unable to come back, but it wasn’t enough to simply lay him to rest. His body needed to be destroyed so completely that he could never be manipulated again.
He only knew one person he could even start to trust with something like that.
“Hello, tweetie pie,” Rowena answered. “Is this a social call?”
“No, I need your help.”
“Now as much as I’d like to, I’m busy. Tell the Winchesters—”
“This isn’t for them,” he said, words coming out harsher than intended. He took a breath and added a gentler, “Please, this is important.”
“More important than—”
“Yes. Can you meet me at...” Castiel faltered. The Bunker wasn’t an option, and he certainly wasn’t going to stay where he was, surrounded by death, destruction, and his son’s wings scorched into the earth. “Uh…”
“I’ll need some time to tie things up in Nevada. Could you perhaps meet me halfway?
“Yes.” Castiel breathed a sigh of relief. “In Colorado? Grand Junction?”
“Alright,” Rowena agreed. “Now tell me what it is you need so I can prepare.”
“I need you to help me burn a body.” He risked a glance to Jack, feeling bile rise up. “So completely that he can’t come back.”
“Dearie—”
“I can’t talk more; I’ll see you tomorrow,” Castiel blurted, hanging up before what little control he had over his emotions could slip.
The drive was even harder than watching him die.
He talked and played music, anything to avoid the screaming silence, the way Jack was growing cold and stiff beside him. It didn’t work. His mind still repeated the horrified knowledge of “this was your child,” a broken record he feared would never stop.
Neither of them would recover from this.
He arrived after Rowena and nearly cried as she offered him a smile in her prim and proper way and asked if Jack would be joining them or staying in the car.
He didn’t know what gave it away. The unnatural stillness and silence of the car, one that he’d grappled with for hundreds of miles, perhaps. Maybe it was a witch’s intuition, since she’d seen enough over the last several hundred years. Maybe it was because he couldn’t answer her, or even look her in the eyes.
“Oh,” was all she said before embracing him. He couldn’t return it. He couldn’t tear his mind from the hug he had given Jack in the graveyard, how he hadn’t hugged back, how he’d kneeled rather than fight, and how he’d died even when Dean couldn’t go through with it. How it felt to hold Jack, limp and soundless in his arms.
The dam broke, and all that pain and grief and anger nearly brought him to his knees.
Rowena saw it: how broken he was, how broken he’d always been. He didn’t know who he was anymore if he wasn’t a father or an angel, yet he was neither anymore. What was he supposed to do now?
Maybe she understood that. She had suffered the loss of a loved one, too. She knew what it was to watch the world die around her, to lose herself for a time.
When Castiel was able to collect himself, pull the broken shards of his being back together, Rowena asked something that almost tore him apart again.
“Dearie, are you sure you want to…”
“I can’t bring him back. I talked to Death, and I can’t bring him back,” Castiel said softly. “I can’t have someone take advantage of what’s… left.”
“But something so permanent…”
“I would do it myself,” he offered, “but I seem to have fallen.”
Rowena gave him a strange look, the likes of which he hadn’t received in years, so he explained.
“I felt it. Something in me breaking. The emotion growing stronger. I don’t know how to describe it… It felt like when the angels fell. The same kind of desperation.”
“My dear, you’re still an angel. You still have your powers.” She looked him up and down. “Maybe you’re not as powerful as you once were, and you’re a smidge weaker than last we saw each other, but you’re far from powerless.”
Castiel looked away, lost.
“Maybe you can’t do it because you don’t want to,” she offered gently.
“What I want is for him to come back. But he needs to be….” He couldn’t bring himself to say it.
Rowena nodded, understanding.
They found somewhere private, somewhere quiet outside the city. The trees stood tall and proud and vibrantly alive. A felled one became the pyre.
Castiel placed Jack on it, still wrapped in the trenchcoat.
The flames that swallowed him were brilliantly red, orange, and gold like the ochre rocks on the horizon.
It took hours, even with the help of magic. Castiel stood by Jack’s side for all of it, even long after the embers had cooled and all that was left was a small pile of ash and smudges of soot. Rowena collected it up in a jar as the sun rose, and Castiel took it in his hands.
It never should have ended like this.
The day carried on as if Castiel’s world hadn’t ended hours ago. He was grateful to Rowena for what she had done, but even sitting in her kitchen he was too lost in grief to thank her.
Standing by a whistling teapot, she finally asked, “Would you like to talk about the wee boy?”
“It hurts too much.” Castiel bit into his lip, hard. What did it say about him, that he could hardly even say Jack’s name? Shame bubbled up, hatred of himself swift to follow.
“It hurts because of how much you loved him.”
“I still love him.”
“Yes.”
The pair fell silent for a long while and Rowena set a cup of hot tea in front of Cas before settling into her own seat.
“Rowena…”
“Yes, tweetie pie?”
“When did losing Oscar stop hurting?”
Rowena bowed her head, and Castiel knew the answer.
“It didn’t,” she finally said. “Just as losing Fergus hasn’t stopped hurting.”
Castiel’s instinct was right. This was something he would never recover from, would he?
“It’s a different kind of hurt, with time,” Rowena offered. “It stops being so keen. You survive and you try to carry on without them, because that’s what they would have wanted.” She stared deep into her tea. “You learn to talk about them, and to them, even though they’re gone.”
Castiel nodded and held his tea closer. He couldn’t see that happening, not with how much it hurt, but she was right: he would survive. With Jack gone, his deal would never come due. Happiness wouldn’t kill him because he would never feel it again.
Rowena offered him a place to stay for a few weeks, but Castiel declined. He couldn’t stay there, not where the earth was scorched and the air still smelled faintly of smoke. Instead, Castiel drove for hours, not paying much attention to where he was going until he found himself parked outside of the Bunker.
It wasn’t where he wanted to be, not by a longshot, but he had something he needed to do. The door creaked as loudly as it always had, and Castiel was halfway across the library before a voice called out to him.
“Cas.”
Dean.
“I’m here for his things. Then I’ll be on my way.”
“Cas, hey. Stop for a moment, would you?”
Castiel did.
“Look, alright.” Dean walked over until they could look each other in the eye. “I’m not proud of how everything went down. And I’ve given what you said some thought. You’re right. It is our fault, but it’s Chuck’s, too, man. You gotta see that.”
“What I see is that you’re finding any excuse you can to get the blame off yourself.”
Dean’s eyes darkened.
“Chuck has been toying with us—”
“No, you made the decision to kill him, just as I made the decision not to. You told me to get onboard or walk away, and I left you and Chuck both of my own choice. Because you taught me that people and families and love are worth fighting for, and I was going to fight for him!” Castiel tried to keep the waver out of his voice as tears brimmed in his eyes. “Chuck couldn’t have changed that even if he’d tried.”
“Maybe he didn’t want to, huh? You think of that? Maybe he wants us divided.”
“You should have thought about that before you tried to execute him in front of me.”
“Cas—”
“You had a choice and you made the wrong one.”
Castiel left him there in the library and locked himself in Jack’s room. Almost instantly, it proved to be too much, and he slumped down against the door, sobbing.
The room was holding its breath, waiting for Jack to come home. A half-read book sat on the desk, a few stray papers underneath. A pile of clothes waited patiently to be returned to a drawer. The nightstand was bare save for a pencil. One good deed….
Castiel packed it all away. He hated himself for destroying the illusion, for leaving the room as empty as his chest felt, but what he was waiting for would never happen. Jack would never walk through that door again. The decoder ring in the drawer would never be used. Everything had fallen into ruin.
He managed to get the first box into his truck with no issues, no run-ins or confrontations. The second box was smaller, and he rested it on a hip as he closed the bedroom door for the last time.
This time, he wasn’t so lucky. Dean watched him cross the room and quietly said, “You’re not the only one grieving him.”
“It’s not the same, Dean. You never felt his soul. You never took the time to know him: you spent your time trying to make up for wanting him dead. Well, you got what you wanted.”
Dean flinched at that, but Castiel didn’t care. His son was nothing but ash and a box and a half of belongings. Anger flared again.
“You think angels can’t feel.” He laughed bitterly. “Even though I’ve proven that wrong. Did you think killing him wouldn’t kill me, too? As if I haven’t given more for him than you could possibly imagine. As much as you’ve given for Sam. My life. My happiness… I signed away my future in a heartbeat so that he could come back and I would do it again. I tried to do it again.”
If only it would have worked.
“Wait, what?”
“I made a deal to save him. When I’m happy, the Empty will take me forever.”
Dean gaped at him in horror.
“Cas, what’ve you done?”
“What I had to. What any father would do. Don’t give me that look. You’ve done worse for Sam.”
“And it’s always come back to bite me in the ass.”
“Well, I haven’t been happy in years, so don’t worry about the deal.”
“You shouldn’t have made it in the first place.”
“Oh, so now only you get to make deals to save the people you love? Only you get to cheat death time and time again while the rest of us suffer?” Castiel looked at him incredulously, anger seeping through him. “Do you know how many brothers I’ve lost? Sisters? Friends? Now Jack. Why can’t I save them? Why should they stay dead when you and your brother have been raised so many times?”
“That’s not what I meant and you know it. We would have figured it out without making the deal!”
“We didn’t have the time! If I hadn’t made the deal I would have lost him forever, right then and there. I couldn’t stand by and watch him die!”
It would have killed him. And it had.
“We would have figured it out,” Dean maintained. “Like we always do!”
Castiel shook his head. “Then you figure it out. If you bring him back, I’ll be back, but until then…” Castiel looked around the wide expanse of the Bunker with a strange longing. This had never been home, but it could have been, just as his friendship with the Winchesters could have been more. He was leaving behind an almost.
“Jack’s dead. Chuck’s gone. You and Sam have each other. I think it’s time for me to move on.”
“Cas, wait.”
As angry and tired as he was—as they both were—Castiel wanted to. A decade of comradeship, of camaraderie and pining, did that, made him reluctant to leave. Then he remembered standing between Dean and Jack, realizing that if that gun went off, he’d lose them both. He knew now that he’d lost them both long before that.
“Goodbye, Dean.”
It was years before they saw each other again.
It took longer than Castiel could ever admit to find peace.
He still ached for Jack to come back, felt the pain in every drawn breath, but Rowena was right. Billie was right. The anger lessened and the pain dulled. He missed his son but Jack would have wanted him to try to move on. He would have wanted Cas to be happy, despite the deal still hanging over his head even if Castiel couldn’t see it ever coming to fruition now. He owed it to Jack to try to be happy.
And he would. He had to. No matter how much it hurt, even if he still wanted nothing more than to bring him back or follow him in death. Jack survived through him, in his memories and his love. He couldn’t let what was left of his son go like that.
He’d moved to Washington, made a home of where Jack had been born and Kelly had died. Where he had burned. It was a little too empty, full of broken promises and loss and regret, as if it, too, struggled to let go. One day it would. Another family would come and clean it out, fill this home with love as it always should have been. Children would run out to the sand, oblivious of the ash mixed in, while their parents painted over Kelly’s mural and took down the pale yellow curtains that had reminded Cas of honey.
One day, all memory of Jack and the world his parents had tried to give him would be gone. But it wouldn’t be today.
Castiel made his way outside, stood where the rift had first appeared. If he looked closely, he could still see the imprint of wings in the earth. This was where he and Kelly had both burned.
Cautiously, Castiel looked to the sky, the twinkling lights of stars against an unpolluted sky. Jack loved space. He would have loved it here, able to see the stars every night without fail.
It was time to let go.
Gently, Castiel let the ash catch in the breeze, wander everywhere it liked and more until it was gone. Jack was gone.
Castiel swallowed hard and tilted his head back up to the sky, to the light of a thousand stars. If he looked hard enough, he could see the golden twinkle of Jack’s grace reflecting back, his eyes glowing against a sea of blue.
“Hello, Jack.”

Taylor Swift Tours Masterpost
Hey everyone! For absolutely no reason at all, I’ve decided to compile a masterpost of all the regular setlists, surprise songs, covers, and guests on Taylor’s tours with links to YouTube videos when available (I’m only including videos that weren’t featured in official tour movies). I’ve noticed that, although there are posts like this for specific tours, like Red or reputation, some of this information is pretty hard to find, and it might be useful to some to have it all in one place. Also, I’m something of a Taylor Swift live performance ~connoisseur (💀), so I thought I might share. :) Here we go
Note: This is only part one. I don’t know when the posts for Red, 1989, and reputation will be up.
Part One: Fearless & Speak Now
Fearless Tour (April 23, 2009-July 10, 2010)
This tour did not feature a ‘surprise song slot,’ but she did sometimes change the setlist up a bit. She also brought out a couple of surprise guests (most notably John Mayer and Katy Perry), but not nearly as many as she did on her later tours.
Regular setlist: Fearless Tour
1. ‘You Belong with Me’
2. ‘Our Song’
3. ‘Tell Me Why’
4. ‘Teardrops on My Guitar’
5. ‘Fearless’
6. ‘Forever & Always’
7. ‘Hey Stephen’
8. ‘Fifteen’
9. ‘Tim McGraw’
10. ‘White Horse’ (x)
11. ‘Love Story’
12. ‘The Way I Loved You’ (x)
13. ‘You’re Not Sorry’ / ‘What Goes Around… Comes Around’ (x)
14. ‘Picture to Burn’
15. ‘Change’ (x)
16. ‘I’m Only Me When I’m with You’ (2009) (x) OR ‘Today Was a Fairytale’ (2010)
17. ‘Should’ve Said No’ (extended version)
Footnotes:
*Starting from the show in Uncasville, Connecticut on August 28, 2009, ‘Change’ was removed from the setlist. It was added back in Greensville, South Carolina on September 4, 2009. Starting from the show in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on October 1, 2009, it was removed again.
*European shows on the 2009 leg often removed ‘I’m Only Me When I’m with You’ as well as ‘Change.’
*Starting from the show in Brisbane, Australia on February 4, 2010, ‘Today Was a Fairytale’ replaced ‘I’m Only Me When I’m with You’ in the encore.
Surprise songs:
1. ‘The Best Day’ - Evansville, Indiana (April 23, 2009) Note: This was actually the first show of the tour. Unfortunately, I haven’t found a video of this performance.
2. ‘Two Is Better Than One’ - Brisbane, Australia (February 4, 2010) (x)
3. ‘The Best Day’ - Moline, Illinois (May 8, 2010) (x)
4. ‘Jump Then Fall’ - Foxborough, Massachusetts (June 5, 2010) (x)
Surprise guest performances:
1. ‘Your Body is a Wonderland’ and ‘White Horse’ (already part of the regular acoustic set but performed as a duet here) with John Mayer - Los Angeles, CA (May 22, 2009) (x)
2. ‘The Way You Love Me’ with Faith Hill - Nashville, TN (September 12, 2009) (x)
3. ‘Hot N Cold’ with Katy Perry - Los Angeles, CA (April 15, 2010)
Speak Now World Tour (February 9, 2011-March 18, 2012)
Regular setlists:
Eurasia (February 9, 2011-March 30, 2011)
Note: All of the performances linked below are from the Eurasian leg. Therefore, their quality is questionable. I’m only including these because this leg had a slightly different wardrobe than the North American leg which was recorded for the tour movie. I’m not including videos from performances where the costume is the same.
1. ‘Sparks Fly’
2. ‘Mine’
3. ‘The Story of Us’
4. ‘Back to December’ / ‘Apologize’ / ‘You’re Not Sorry’ (x)
5. ‘Better Than Revenge’ (x)
6. ‘Speak Now’
7. ‘Fearless’ / ‘I’m Yours’ / ‘Hey, Soul Sister’
8. ‘Fifteen’ (x)
9. ‘You Belong with Me’
10. ‘Dear John’ (x) - I’m only including this video because she wore her hair loose lol
11. ‘Enchanted’ (x)
12. ‘Long Live’ (x)
13. ‘Love Story’ (x)
North America & Oceania (May 21, 2011-March 18, 2012)

1. ‘Sparks Fly’
2. ‘Mine’
3. ‘The Story of Us’
4. ‘Our Song’
5. ‘Mean’
6. ‘Back to December’ / ‘Apologize’ / ‘You’re Not Sorry’
7. ‘Better Than Revenge’
8. ‘Speak Now’
9. ‘Fearless’ / ‘I’m Yours’ / ‘Hey, Soul Sister’
10. ‘Last Kiss’
11. ‘You Belong with Me’
12. ‘Dear John’
13. ‘Enchanted’
14. ‘Haunted’
15. ‘Long Live’
16. ‘Fifteen’
17. ‘Love Story’
Notes:
Starting from the show in Toronto, Canada on July 15, 2011, Taylor started playing acoustic covers right after her performance of ‘Last Kiss.’
Starting from the show in Denver, CO, on September 27, 2011, ‘Ours’ was added to the encore, right before the performance of ‘Fifteen’. This marked the live debut of the song. If Taylor had a surprise guest, this was the song she would usually cut from the setlist.
Starting from the show in Perth, Australia on March 2, 2012, ‘Safe & Sound’ (x) was added to the encore. ‘Ours’ (x) was shifted to the acoustic set and was played right before ‘Last Kiss.’ It was only skipped at the show in Auckland on March 17. I’m including a video because, although the performance from the encore was featured in the tour movie, this version takes place on the B-stage and has a different costume (the purple Susan Hilferty dress she wore for half the show lol).
At the shows in Melbourne, Australia on March 12, 2012 and Auckland, New Zealand on March 16, 2012, ‘Fearless’ was skipped.
Surprise covers:
1. ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ by Bon Jovi - Newark, NJ (July 19, 2011) (x)

siren | a writer’s choice bingo fill
writer’s choice bingo masterpost rating: mature warnings: none
For a hunter, Dean’s frequent visits to the monster bar are unusual, to say the least. His profession tends to not mingle with monsters, even though the ones that frequent this place are the ones that live amongst humans without any issue. Dean doesn’t care, though. He’s met good friends through here and even had a few flings with some of them. He feels more at home here than he does in a hunter crowd, and he’s not really sure if he should feel as comfortable as he does about that fact.
Doesn’t stop him from looking for someone to spend the night with, though. It’s been too long since he’s had someone underneath him—or been underneath someone, frankly—so he’s nursing a single beer as he looks for someone that piques his interest.
It doesn’t take long. A dark-haired man walks through the door within fifteen minutes of Dean sitting down and he looks perfect. Dean doesn’t even hesitate to grab his beer and vacate his table, sidling up to the man at the bar.
“Hey there, gorgeous. Let me buy you a drink?”
The man turns to look at him and Dean can’t help but feel a little self-conscious as the stranger’s eyes skim the length of his body. “You can’t buy me the kind of drink I want.”
Dean frowns. This is a monster bar, so if the guy’s looking for blood or something, that’s not exactly an odd request. “You sure about that?”
The stranger smirks, leaning against the counter and raising an eyebrow at Dean. “Unless you’re prepared to ingest my venom and allow me to feed off your adoration for the next several hours, yes, I’m positive.”
Dean’s brain short-circuits at that because honestly… he wouldn’t be opposed. It must show on his face because the man tilts his head as he watches Dean. “Siren, right?” The man nods, so Dean clears his throat and finishes what’s left of his beer. “Then let’s get out of here.”
Dean catches the bartender’s eye and closes out his tab, turning back to the man. “I’m Dean, by the way.”
“Castiel,” the man answers with a wry smile. “How do I know you don’t have a bronze knife on you somewhere?”
Dean can’t help but smirk. “You can pat me down when we get to where we’re going, hm? My motel isn’t far.”
Castiel hums, nodding once as he turns to leave. Dean grins and slips his jacket on, following him to the parking lot. After a short discussion about the logistics of getting to Dean’s motel, they both pile into the Impala and Dean pulls onto the road.
“Do I even want to know how many daggers you’ve got in here?”
Dean laughs. “Four, but they’re all in the trunk. Don’t encounter sirens very often, honestly. Besides, I’d need the blood of one of your victims, right? I doubt you just leave those lying around.”
Castiel quirks an eyebrow. “You do realize if you ingest my venom, you’ll be considered my victim?”
Dean blinks and glances over at Castiel. “Huh. Yeah, I guess you’re right.”
An uncomfortable silence settles between them, so Dean just stays quiet as he drives. He doesn’t really blame Castiel for being nervous. A lot of hunters don’t care about the monsters that live in the gray areas, most are content to kill every monster they come across no matter what. Of course, Castiel would be concerned.
The parking lot is empty when they get there, so Dean parks in front of his room and pops the trunk before climbing out. Castiel watches him curiously, so Dean offers him a small smile and tugs the false door up to reveal his arsenal. “4 bronze daggers there. I’ve got a gun hidden in my room, though that won’t do much to you. Couple of steel knives that I’ll leave out here.” Dean proves his point by grabbing the sheaths from his waist and ankle and tossing them in the trunk.
Castiel chuckles. “I believe you, but thank you. You wouldn’t have been allowed in that bar if you weren’t friendly. Benny takes security seriously and, no offense, I could smell the hunter on you five miles away.”
Dean smirks. “I taste better than I smell, promise.”
Castiel rolls his eyes and follows Dean into his room, depositing his trenchcoat on the chair near the door. “You’re positive you don’t mind? The effect will wear off by morning.”
Dean hums, already beginning to unbutton his flannel. “Not even a little. There a certain way you need to do it?”
Castiel smiles and crosses to Dean in a few long strides, cupping his cheek gently. “A kiss will work just fine.”
Dean’s not sure what he’s supposed to feel when their lips meet, but he definitely doesn’t feel poisoned. Not that he’d know what it felt like anyway—he wasn’t lying when he told Castiel he’d only seen a few sirens in his career. Dean lets himself get lost in the kiss, barely even noticing when Castiel starts to push the flannel off of him. He’s way more on board once Cas starts to unbutton his jeans, his long fingers brushing over the erection already forming in his briefs.
“You’re right, Dean, you do taste better than you smell,” Castiel mumbles, a small smile on his lips as he leans down to kiss Dean again.
~
Dean pulls up to the nondescript apartment building, sitting there for a moment before shutting the car off. He hasn’t seen Castiel for over four months—apparently, the length of time a siren can go without feeding—but Castiel had called out of the blue and asked him to come over. Dean had only been a state over on a hunt, so he’d wrapped up his business there and driven straight to Castiel’s.
He looks weak when he opens the door, and far more pale than the last time Dean had seen him.
“Cas? You okay?”
Castiel smiles weakly, stepping aside to let Dean into the apartment. “I’m alright. I went… longer than I should have without feeding. I wanted to, I just... “ He turns his gaze back to Dean and the unspoken words hang heavy between them. Dean thinks he knows what Castiel was about to say, but he doesn’t want to pry.
“Alright, well let’s get you back to yourself then, hm?”
Castiel smiles gratefully, allowing Dean to draw him into a kiss.
~
It becomes a recurring thing between them. Every month or so, sometimes more often if Dean’s passing through Cas’s state, they’ll meet up and sleep together. Castiel gets his fix of adoration, as he likes to say, and Dean gets a warm, fluffy bed and a good fuck. He can’t complain, even if he does wake up a little bit tired the morning after.
“So, Benny’s hiring,” Dean offers one morning over breakfast. It’s been almost a year since he went home with Castiel for the first time, something he still can’t believe. He’s never actually had a relationship this long, and they’re not even actively in a relationship.
Castiel quirks an eyebrow. “Indeed. I saw the sign on the door.”
Dean hums. “I’d make a good bartender, I think.”
Castiel leans back in his chair and crosses his arms over his chest. “I’m sure you’d be wonderful at it. You want to give up hunting?”
“I’ve been wanting a life outside of hunting recently,” Dean admits with a shrug. “Gets a little too dangerous after a while. Besides, it would be nice to sleep on a comfortable bed like yours every night instead of those shitty motel beds. Or worse, Baby’s back seat.”
Castiel studies his face for a moment before frowning. “I’m sorry, I must have given you too much venom last night. Perhaps you should stay another day.”
“What? No, Cas, I’m being serious. I like it here, I’ve got friends here, I’ve got you—well, not… you know, I… fuck. I didn’t mean it like that.” Dean sighs, running a hand through his hair. “Look, I like you, alright? It’s not because of your venom, it’s because of you.”
Castiel smiles, though it looks sad. “We were up late last night, I’m sure my venom hasn’t worked its way out of your system yet.”
Dean scoffs. “Hey, I can think for myself, thank you very much. Your venom’s not even that potent, man, it’s never made me feel any different.”
Castiel squints at him. “Never?”
“Nope. Why?”
“Well it’s supposed to make you disoriented and passive, so you’ll follow my every order no matter what. It… doesn’t do that?”
Dean snorts. “Follow your every order? God no. If you’re so convinced I’m still poisoned, make me do something.”
Castiel frowns. “I don’t like making people do things. It’s why I’m always so careful with what I say when we’re together.”
“I’m telling you, I’m immune to your venom or something. C’mon, try it.”
It takes a moment, but Castiel eventually acquiesces. “Refill my coffee.”
Dean waits a moment, half expecting to be compelled to refill Castiel’s mug, but nothing happens. Castiel frowns and sits up.
“Kiss me.”
Dean waits again, raising an eyebrow at Castiel. “See? Nothing.”
Castiel frowns. “Stay with me tonight? I want to see if you’re immune after you ingest my venom.”
Dean smirks. “Damn, Cas, if you wanted to fuck me again you coulda just asked.”
Castiel rolls his eyes, though the hint of a blush on his cheeks gives him away. “So you’ll stay?”
Dean hums his agreement, eyes widening as Castiel leans over the table to kiss him. Once again, they both wait, expecting God only knows what to happen, but nothing changes.
“Go get my phone,” Castiel orders. The tone of his voice sends a shiver down Dean’s spine and though he wants to obey, he won’t. Castiel needs the proof. “You’re actually immune,” Castiel breathes, a look of wonder written on his face. “You want to move here to be closer to me of your own free will?”
Dean frowns. “Yeah, man. I like you, Cas. Not your venom.”
Castiel grins, leaning over to kiss him again. “Then just move in with me. I love you, I just didn’t want to force you to be with me.”
Dean blinks. “You love me?”
Castiel chuckles. “Why do you sound so surprised? You’re easy to fall for, Dean.”
Dean grins, pulling Cas in for another kiss, their breakfast entirely forgotten between them. “I’ll go get my stuff out of my car and call Benny.”
Castiel hums. “Later. Right now, we need to celebrate.”
Dean laughs. “Oh? How so?”
Castiel smirks, quickly clearing off one side of the table before lifting Dean onto it and settling between his legs. “Oh, I can think of a few ways.”

~2,8k words
“Are you nervous?” Sam teased Dean, who stood in front of the mirror, tugging his tie straight. He thought about it for a moment “Excited? Sure, can’t wait to see Cas again after you forced us to spend last night apart for some stupid tradition. Nervous? No. It’s Cas I’m marrying.” Sam smiled knowingly, already half out the door. “I’m very happy for you two!” Alone again, Dean’s eyes drifted back to the mirror and he placed his hand on his shoulder, right over Cas’ handprint. He meant what he had said to Sam. It had been the first night they had been apart since he got Cas back and he barely slept. He had just felt wrong without hearing Cas’ gentle breaths, without being able to wrap his arms around the former angel and without feeling the weight of Cas’ head on his chest. But was he nervous? Not at all. He was almost surprised at how calm he felt. He’d never been this sure about anything in his life. After today, he would never have to spend another night without Cas.
Everything was perfect. Everyone they knew had insisted on helping with the wedding in one way or another. Sam wanted to officiate them, he got his license as soon as he heard the happy news. Eileen had taken the grooms separately to shop for wedding suits, Jack had promised them a warm, sunny day and handmade the invitations with Claire. Jody and Donna had baked their wedding cake, Ellen and Jo contributed a dozen homemade pies, Bobby took care of the bar and the catering. Garth and Bess promised to capture the whole day on their cameras. Gabe offered to be their DJ and Ash took care of all the technical stuff. Rowena had promised them truly magical fireworks at night, while Crowley and Benny were in charge of the security, although that shouldn’t be necessary ever since Jack became god.
Charlie and Dorothy had not only offered their vast, beautiful property as their wedding venue, they had also taken care of the decorations. The ceremony was set to take place on the Southern side of their house. An aisle led through rows of white chairs up to a little lake in front of which they had placed a rectangular wooden arc, decorated with greenery and big white flowers that stood out brightly against the blue water in the background. The Western side of the house was already equipped with a big dance floor around which tables, a big buffet and a bar had been set up. To top it all off, Charly and Dorothy had hanged fairy lights in every single tree on their property, which would create a magical atmosphere at night.
Lost in thoughts, Dean adjusted the flower on his lapel and smiled at the mirror. He never thought that he – Dean fucking Winchester – would ever get married. And yet here he was. His phone buzzed and his smile became even wider as he saw who texted him.
[Cas 10:34] Dean?
[Dean 10:35] What’s up? Don’t tell me you’re getting cold feet now😉
[Cas 10:37] No, my feet are perfectly fine, why would they be cold?
Dean rolled his eyes, amused at his fiancé’s confusion.
[Dean 10:37] Not literally, that’s an expression for someone who has second thoughts on their wedding day. What’s going on?
[Cas 10:38] Oh. I see. I’m nervous that I might act weird because I don’t know all wedding customs. So I wanted to ask if you could maybe help me out when I’m about to make a fool out of myself.
[Dean 10:39] Sure thing, sunshine, but don’t worry about acting right, it’s your wedding day, all you have to do is enjoy it. And everybody here knows you’re a little weird😉
Without a knock, Charlie barged in. “What’s up bitch, you ready? Cause your fiancé is and he’s smokin’ hot.” She winked as she noticed Dean’s blushing cheeks. “Yeah, I’m ready. Where’s Bobby?” “Already waiting downstairs for you. I have to go, see you in a few”.  As quick as she had come, she disappeared again. Dean took another glance at the mirror to make sure everything was perfect before he left the room.
Downstairs Bobby and Ellen were laughing over a glass of scotch. When Bobby noticed Dean, he smiled and reached up to adjust his baseball cap, scoffing when he realized that he didn’t wear one today. “Lookin’ good” he grumbled. Ellen gave Bobby a quick peck on his cheek and winked at Dean as she went to take a seat. “I’m glad ya two idjits finally got the sticks out of your asses. Took ya long enough.” Dean chuckled nervously, his cheeks turning red again. “Thanks Bobby. Truth is I still don’t know how I got this lucky.” “Well, ya really deserve this, ya know? You’re a good man. He’s lucky to be with you. And I like him. Never seen you this happy.” After a pause he added “I’m very proud of you son.” Fumbling with the empty glass Ellen had left behind on the table in front of him, Dean replied “Bobby... Thank you. You’ve always been a father for me, unlike John, who... Anyways, thank you. For everything.” Dean swallowed, unable to put his love and gratitude for this man into words, but as he looked up at Bobby’s face, he caught him wiping over suspiciously wet eyes. “Idjit” he grunted, pulling Dean into a bone crushing hug. He nodded at the clock. “Ya ready? We gotta go.” “Ready” Dean replied, and he meant it. He was more than ready for this.
Or maybe he wasn’t. He was more than ready to marry Cas, but he wasn’t prepared for the sight of all his loved ones in one place, alive – thanks to Jack – gathered to celebrate with him. He always thought the only occasion where they’d all come together would be for his funeral, and he didn’t even expect that since most of them had been dead until a few months ago. Grateful and touched to see how many people where there because they loved him and Cas, Dean fought back some tears. While Garth’s kids waddled down the aisle, scattering white rose petals, Bobby squeezed Dean’s arm, as if he could sense all those thoughts whirling in his head. Dean nodded, linked their arms and let Bobby lead him down the aisle where Sammy already waited with a big grin and an even bigger stack of notes for his speech.
Back in the house, Charly gave Cas an encouraging smile and handed him a gorgeous bouquet of white and yellow flowers. “Thank you for leading me down the aisle, I was made aware that that would usually be the responsibility of one’s father...” “There’s nothing usual about this wedding..” Charly teased him. “Besides, you’ve been my bestie ever since we first met, of course I’m gonna walk you down the aisle!” She linked their arms. “Ready?” Cas nodded. “Ready...” Leaning in, he added with a proud smirk “...bestie”. The doors swung open and they stepped outside.
All heads turned around to see Cas, but he didn’t even notice. He was completely captivated by the sight of his fiancé, who let out a little gasp before breaking into a wide smile. His eyes made those cute crinkles that Cas loved so much and as he came closer, he could see a tear roll over Dean’s check. Usually, although Dean had become way more relaxed over the last months, Cas could always sense a lingering alertness in him. But now... he seemed completely at peace. Cas quickly blinked away some tears. He didn’t want anything to cloud his vision, he needed to preserve this image in his mind. His navy-blue suit combined with a simple black tie and a white flower on the lapel suited Dean incredibly well. He was beautiful and Cas’ heart skipped a beat at the thought that it was him who caused the pure adoration and happiness on Dean’s face.
Charlie led Cas towards him with excruciatingly slow steps. Dean could barely restrain himself from running towards them. Cas was indeed smoking hot in his black suit, the baby blue tie perfectly matching the color of his big, loving eyes. Their eyes locked and Cas smiled at him with his adorable alien head tilt. Dean took a deep breath in, smiling at his fiancé, whose eyes glistened suspiciously. Cas seemed completely awestruck, and Dean felt a little lightheaded like he always did when Cas looked at him like that... like he meant the world to him.
Charly placed Cas’ hand in Dean’s. “Hey handsome! Missed me last night?” Dean whispered with a wink. “Hello Dean. I missed you very much indeed”. Murmuring “Me too”, Dean softly leaned his forehead against Cas’. The grooms stood there for a moment with closed eyes and fond smiles on their faces, the longing for each other almost unbearable. Cas finally pulled away and stated softly: “You are incredibly beautiful”. He turned towards Sam. Dean blushed at the seriousness in Cas’ voice and slowly turned to face his brother as well, not without glancing at Cas’ concentrated face once more and shooting him a loving smile from the side. While Sam held his unsurprisingly deep and thoughtful speech, Cas slipped his hand into Dean’s, who squeezed it lightly in response.
When it was time to say their vows, Dean took Cas’ hands in his and started shakily: “So, uhm, I’d like to start if that’s okay. Cas – you’re my best friend. And you’re the love of my life. I never thought I’d ever say something like that, I didn’t exactly think love was in the cards for me. I never let anyone close. But you...” His furrowed brows softened, and he broke into a fond smile, adopting Cas’ little head tilt. “You immediately got to me – well, right after I stabbed you... Sorry for that, buddy.” He winked and Cas chuckled softly. Dean continued, his voice overflowing with love: “I love your weird, quirky personality. I love that you’re such an openhearted, adorable little dude and at the same time you’re brave, strong and one hell of a badass. You never stop surprising me. You have the most loving, pure and beautiful soul.” Dean’s voice started to crack. “You know me better than anyone, heck, you probably even know me better than I know myself. You looked into my soul and you love me for exactly who I am, which is the best gift you could have ever given me.” Firmly holding Cas’ gaze, he added seriously: “I promise to always love and support you unconditionally, in our human life together and beyond. I’ve been yours ever since you first laid a hand on me. And I swear I will be yours for all of eternity. I love you Cas, so damn much.”
Cas looked at him completely lovestruck, tears glistening in his eyes. In a low, gravelly voice he declared: “I never truly belonged anywhere. I never... functioned the way I was supposed to. And you made me realize that that’s okay. That freedom and free will were more preferable than being a brainwashed soldier of heaven. You gave me your friendship, you made me part of your family. You taught me to love.” He cupped Dean’s face, gently brushing his thumb over Dean’s freckled cheeks. Squinting his eyes in adoration at the miracle before him, he added: “You are the most perfect, selfless and loving human being I have ever known.” Tears started rolling down Dean’s cheeks, he still had a hard time accepting that someone – especially Cas – would think so highly of him. Receiving this praise in front of such a big audience made him blush. “Dean, you are my home. I love you. Forever.” He pressed a soft kiss on Dean’s forehead and wiped away his tears. Dean almost drowned in his loving eyes, completely overwhelmed with affection.
Claire and Jack came up to give them their rings. Claire handed Cas a ring and whispered: “Congrats Ca... Dad”. Cas froze up for a second, tilting his head, squinting his eyes, trying to understand if she really just meant that or if it had just slipped out on accident. When she gave him a shy confirming smile, he pulled her into a strong hug. Jack handed Dean a ring with a “Hello Dad” and a short hug, before tugging on Claire’s hand to pull her back to their seats. The almost married couple shared a confused look after what just happened, Dean opening his mouth to ask “Did they just call us..?” “I believe they did”, Cas replied happily.
Sam moved on with the ceremony and let them repeat some more promises to each other before posing the final question: “Do you, Castiel, take Dean Winchester as your lawfully wedded husband?” Cas answered earnestly “I do.” Sam turned to Dean to repeat his question: “Do you, Dean Winchester, take Castiel as your lawfully wedded husband?” Dean grinned widely, eyes crinkling around the edges: “Hell yeah, I do!” Sam asked them to exchange their rings to seal their bond and Cas took Dean’s hand gently in his. He slipped the ring on slowly, looking deeply into Dean’s beaming green eyes. Dean then slipped a ring onto Cas’ finger, his fingertips lingering longer than necessary. Sam finally pronounced them “...husband and husband. You may now kiss your groom!” Under the roaring cheers of their loved ones, Dean cupped Cas’ face while his husband pulled him close, arms wrapped around his waist. Their lips found each other easily, all of their adoration blooming into a chaste, soft kiss. Cas spontaneously bent Dean backwards, who gasped into his mouth in surprise, before letting himself fall into the strong embrace. Their kiss deepened, both too far gone to hear the excited cheers and whistles around them. It took them a while to gather the strength to break apart, foreheads resting against each other for one more moment before turning to the cheering crowd. Dean linked their hands and raised them up, as Sam exclaimed loudly: “I present to you Mr. and Mr. Winchester!”
The party afterwards was one for the books. Everyone had a blast and surprisingly enough, everyone got along perfectly, which wasn’t exactly a given on a party were hunters and supernatural beings came together. Donna’s and Jody’s wedding cake was mind-blowingly delicious. It was a white cake with three tiers and a figurine of the happy couple on top, wearing their trademark flannel and trenchcoat. When they cut the cake open, it revealed a colorful surprise. The top tier was colored like the bisexual pride flag. The second tier was chocolate-brown and the bottom tier looked like a rainbow flag. Dean insisted on feeding Cas with some cake and “accidentally” smeared frosting on Cas’ face. After he had kissed it away shamelessly, which earned them loud cheers and whistles from their guests, Dean pulled his husband onto the dance floor for their first dance.
They both didn’t exactly know how to dance, but it didn’t matter. They were just happy to feel the comforting warmth of their bodies against each other and melted into a tight embrace. As they were swaying gently, eyes closed and faces buried in each other’s necks, they didn’t realize that the first song had long blended into the next one. After a couple of songs, Dean opened his eyes for a moment, watching all the people he loved enjoy themselves. Jody and Donna slow-danced next to them and Eileen tried to teach Sam how to dance, hoping not to get her toes crushed. The brothers exchanged a big smile that said: “We’re so damn lucky”. Rowena stood at the DJ-table with Gabe, brushing a hand over his arm and whispering something in his ear. Crowley and Benny seemed to hit it off at the bar and Claire and Jack tried to teach Sonny some “tictoc-dance”, whatever that was, while Miracle excitedly jumped around their feet. Dean closed his eyes again and sank even deeper into the feeling of Cas’ arms wrapped around him.
The party carried on deep into the night, roaring rock classics long having replaced the quiet couple-dance music, everyone partying on the dance floor or sharing stories and laughs at the bar. As the newlyweds sat down to chat with Sam and Eileen over some drinks, Cas looked at his husband lovingly. He was overjoyed to see Dean beaming happily from being among all the people he loved, no danger in sight. As Dean caught Cas starring, he gave him a gentle peck and got up. He linked their hands as they strolled towards the lake, the party sounds fading into low background noises. They leaned up against each other, the reflections of stars and fairy lights glistening on the water as they held each other close in the cold night air. Dean nuzzled his nose into Cas’ hair and pressed a gentle kiss on his head. Cas turned to see Dean’s glowing eyes and pulled him into a long, achingly tender kiss. They were home.

StackedNatural Day 60: 5x10, 6x09, 9x07
StackedNatural Masterpost: [x]
November 19, 2009
NOTE: I’m putting the finale in it’s own post that will follow this one shortly. I think that the psychic damage it will deal me to watch it again deserves it’s own place.
5x10: Abandon All Hope...
Written by: Ben Edlund
Directed by: Phil Sgriccia
Original air date: November 19, 2009
Plot Synopsis:
Dean and Sam get to know the whereabouts of Lucifer and want to hunt him down. But Lucifer is well prepared and is working his own plans.
Features:
Crowley has the best character intro ever filmed, the best hard zoom ever filmed, retrieving the colt, Cas drinks with the girls, family portrait, Meg and her hellhounds, the devil’s deteriorating vessel, Jo and Ellen’s sacrifice, shooting the devil in the head, raising death,
My Thoughts:
I watched the cold open 3 times while watching this episode because it made us laugh so hard. GOT HIM.
I love Crowley so much, he’s been a fruity little crossroads demon since the beginning and we owe Mark Sheppard everything. He didn’t have to go so hard with the eyes and the face before he kissed that sleezy banker, but he did that for us. He gave us not one but TWO gay kisses in this role. A hero.
The scene when the boys meet him and they’re so baffled by him… I love them. They’re so stupid.
Lucifer is still an actually scary villain in this season, he has a ton of gravitas and control and I forgot how much I loved that until I saw it contrasting so sharply with, for example, Inherit the Earth, where he was mostly whined and said “cuck”. The colouring and the aesthetic of this episode also fuck extremely hard, especially when Cas is walking among the reapers and then standing in the ring of holy fire all lit from below, doing the same hand turn that he does in On The Head of a Pin. And they still use Cas’ wings to great effect this early into the series as well.
Bonus points for Deangirls and hellers this episode. Dean says, I’d like to die for a cause (do NOT think about the finale in this context), and then he gives Jo the same “last night on Earth” speech that he gave to Cas in Free to Be You and Me.
Cas is making friends with Jo and Ellen, which makes it even sadder that they die in this episode. I love them so much, Jo especially, but I do like that she got to go out a hero and that she and Ellen got their emotional moment at the end.
Cas and Lucifer are great foils for each other in this episode. They both rebelled and were cast out, but for opposite reasons. One for hatred of humanity, one for love of it. @meg3point0 pointed out that Lucifer, even through rebelling, is playing the role that his Father has been writing for all of existence. One brother has to fight the other, Lucifer vs Michael, Cain vs Abel, Sam vs Dean. This is God’s book, and it needs conflict.
Cas looks sooo pretty in this episode, and while I don’t personally ship Megstiel, this episode makes me see the appeal. They have chemistry, hot damn.
Notable Lines:
“Your choice. You can cling to six decades of deep-seated homophobia, or give it up and get a complete bailout for your bank's ridiculous incompetence.”
“To him, we're just servants. Cannon fodder. If Lucifer manages to exterminate humankind, we're next. So, help me, huh? Let's all go back to simpler, better times, back to when we could all follow our natures.”
“Sam Winchester, having trust issues with a demon. Well, better late than never.”
“What a peculiar thing you are.”
“I rebelled, I was cast out. You rebelled, you were cast out. Almost all of heaven wants to see me dead, and if they succeed, guess what? You're their new public enemy number one. We're on the same side, like it or not, so why not just serve your own best interests? Which in this case just happen to be mine?”
“Oh, I don't know, Sam. I think it will. I think it'll happen soon. Within six months. And I think it'll happen in Detroit.”
“I was a son. A brother, like you, a younger brother, and I had an older brother who I loved. Idolized, in fact. And one day I went to him and I begged him to stand with me, and Michael—Michael turned on me. Called me a freak. A monster. And then he beat me down. All because I was different. Because I had a mind of my own. Tell me something, Sam. Any of this sound familiar?”
“Lucifer is the father of our race. Our creator. Your god may be a deadbeat. Mine—mine walks the earth.”

6x09: Clap Your Hands If You Believe...
Written by: Ben Edlund
Directed by: John F. Showalter
Original air date: November 19, 2010
Plot Synopsis:
The brothers investigate a series of abductions attributed to aliens. However, when Dean disappears and then reappears, they realise that the culprits are fairies and that only someone taken to the fairy realm can see them.
Features:
The quintessential soulless Sam episode, Dean gets abducted, having a soul equals suffering, little glowing hot naked lady with nipples, fairy deals, counting grains of salt.
My Thoughts:
When I think of Soulless Sam, this is the episode that I think of. He has tons of funny lines (thanks, Bedlund), and it’s Jarpad’s best soulless acting (perhaps because he doesn’t need to emote). The use of Ground Control to Major Tom is very funny. I like to see big men hold little teacups. Also, the lighting in the prison scene is really good. Sam dumping out the salt is a fun way to bring it back to classic fairy lore.
I'm not a fan of the off-putting homophobic jokes, but in the grand scheme of things they're not the worst.
Also, they mentioned brownies, so I spent a fair amount of time watching this episode daydreaming about DTA instead of paying attention, sorry.
Notable Lines:
“Close encounter! What kind? First? Second? [...] Third kind already? You better run, man. I think the fourth kind is a butt thing.”
“t’s fine. I mean, I’ve had time to adjust.” “Did it happen when you were kids?” “No, like, half an hour ago. “
“So, say you got a soul and you’re on a case, and your brother gets abducted by aliens— [...] what about when there are no more leads for the night? Are you supposed to just sit there in the dark and suffer, even when there’s nothing that can be done at that moment? [...] But couldn’t I just do all that and have sex with the hippie chick?
“Nipples?”
“Dean? Did you service Oberon, King of the Fairies?”
“You’re missing a certain piece, right in the center, ain’t you?”

9x07: Bad Boys
Written by: Adam Glass
Directed by: Kevin Parks
Original air date: November 19, 2013
Plot Synopsis:
Dean and Sam visit Dean's old boy's home that's now being haunted by a ghost.
Features:
John was a liar, D-Dawg, Dean’s troubled adolescence, Sonny’s home for boys, John Winchester’s A+ parenting, Dean’s first girlfriend, protection from beyond the grave.
My Thoughts:
In this house, we hate John Winchester.
I mean, in a meta sense I love him because I thrive on conflict and Dean is such an interesting character because of his relationship with John, but in reality I am just frothing with rage at a dad who would say his son can rot in jail because he was stealing food to feed his younger brother. And then he lied to Sam to make it seem like it was Dean’s choice to leave him and that he ran away. And Dean still defends his choices to Sam all these years later!
Dylan Everett is so great as young Dean, he honestly nails all the classic Dean Winchester expressions and mannerisms. And he makes me so desperately sad that I want to claw at my own face, so.
The first time I ever saw this episode, I assumed that there was going to have been a case when Dean was a teenager and that’s how Sonny knew about the family business, but there wasn’t. Dean just got to be a teenager for a couple months, and he kept in contact with Sonny all that time and felt close enough to him to tell him what the business was so that Sonny could call him if he ever had trouble. I am actively soliciting fic recs for a fic exploring Sonny and Dean’s relationship over the years. Sonny said he was proud of him, and ten years later he knew that his dad was possessed because he said that he was proud of him.
Dean is so good with kids, it’s tragic that Jack never de-aged for an episode so we could watch him be a dad to a toddler. It’s what we deserve. I just kept thinking about the line, “Hunters are never children. I never was.” I’m sad! His benchmark for good is “no one sexually assaulted me or burned me with cigarettes”! He didn’t actually like being a hunter! He wanted to be a mechanic.
I also really like that even though this episode is centered around Dean, we got a little bit of Sam character stuff as well. He understood the orphan who lost his mom in a fire. He got to see a side of his brother that he had never seen before. And because he’s the parallel to Timmy, we get to see Dean as the parallel to the ghostly mother, protecting her son to the point of causing harm, or in Dean’s case allowing a violation of his bodily autonomy to keep him alive.
Love the parallel with Drag Me Away (From You), with John as the mysterious shadow in the front seat, not the father welcoming home his child.
Notable Lines:
“It was Dad's idea. And then it just – you know, the story became the story.”
“He found me. He found me quick. But he left me here 'cause I lost our money.”
“Well, his old man called. Once he found out what happened, he said `let him rot in jail’.”
“Cars are freaking cool as hell. Fixing them is like … a puzzle, and the best part is when you're done, they leave, and you're not responsible for them anymore.”
“Sometimes you got to do what's best for you, even if it's gonna hurt the ones you love.”
“I mean, here I was thinking this was the worst part of your life, and it turns out it was the best.”
Laura’s (completely subjective) Episode Rating: 9.6

In Conclusion: This Stacked was going SO WELL and now I have to watch Carry On.

What’s To Come What Is Ahead, A Destiel Christmas Calendar, Chapter 10
Tumblr media
Masterpost
AO3
This time, they didn’t shake hands, because they had already met, so there was no reason for it, and yet Castiel couldn’t help but wish that they had. It would have been – yes, he decided it would have been very nice to touch Dean Winchester again, despite the coldness that had seeped into his skin the one time they had.
But he could look, and by God, his own recollection had not done Dean Winchester justice. Really, the Winchester family had won the genetic lottery, as his most ebullient brother would have said. Belatedly he realized he should greet Sam too and deed, “Sam”.
He was grinning at him and Castiel got the impression that he was trying to set them up. That had happened to him a few times before – although never with someone he had actually been attracted to because his family had mostly been trying to get him to find a woman, settle down. But Dean? Now that was something else entirely. Apart from the fact that eh couldn’t help but feel that there was not a single person who must have less needs of a matchmaker (seriously, Dean Winchester was the sort of man who just walked into a bra and had his pick, from both men and women, if he wanted to, and he didn’t even know if Dean was interested in men).
Yes, he reminded himself, he didn’t know if Dean was interested in men – and then he did because Dean looked him up and down in a way that even he could not mistake.
So, yes, maybe Sam was trying to set them up. Only that didn’t make any sense whatsoever – they didn’t even know each other that well. Yes, he probably talked the most with Sam out of all his colleagues, but why should he then decide that he was good enough for the brother he all but worshipped?
Just get through lunch. Go from there.
Thing was, Castiel had always been the sort of man who preferred to have a plan.  And right now, he didn’t have a single idea what to do except for ordering food and hoping for the best.
Sam ordered for both himself and his brother, which he assumed wasn’t that strange if you were close and knew exactly what the other liked, but what surprised Castiel, now that he was paying attention, was that the waitress did not even look Dean’s way once. No matter who one happened to be attracted to, how could one overlook Dean Winchester? Nevertheless, she didn’t pay any attention whatsoever, and Castiel could only stare after her after she had put the plates down and gone back to the kitchen.
“Gotta love pie” Dean said happily, tucking into his meal (Castiel idly wondered if he often ate like that, and how he did keep his looks if he did – and only later would he remember that somehow, all of it stayed on the plate).
“What’s your favourite?” he asked before eh could stop himself.
He gave him a big smile. “Pecan, of course But they don’t always have pecan.” He looked at his brother as if he was making some form of inside joke.
“Yeah, yeah, Dean, I know” Sam sighed. “Never take him to a diner that hasn’t, trust me, you don’t want to see that.”
The problem was that Castiel very much wanted to see it, as a matter of fact, he wanted to see almost everything that Dean Winchester had to offer, and he didn’t know how to tell him, how to let him know, or whether he really wanted to let him know.
And then Dean winked at him and he got the impression that he already knew.
He looked down at his own plate and concentrated on eating. That lasted until Dean suddenly said, “So, Cas, what have you been up to when you’re not working?”
“I – “ he hesitated for a moment the admitted, “Not much. I like to read.”
“Oh, have you ever read Vonnegut? He rules man!”
Since Castiel had indeed read Vonnegut, a conversation ensured – and it wasn’t even an awkward one or a stilted one, like he usually did, but a very interesting and pleasant one, and Dean’s eyes were sparkling and his laughter was as infectious as he would have assumed it would be just from his smile.
A while had passed when he realized that he had not spoken to Sam at all and he quickly turned to him. “Sorry –“
To his surprise, Sam was beaming almost as brightly as Dean. “No, no, you just keep talking. You seem to be having a good time.”
“We are, aren’t we Cas?” Dean grinned and he nodded because as opposed to the last quarter of an hour, he found himself struck silent. “Always love a man who loves him some Vonnegut”.
He didn’t mean it like that, Castiel told himself. He can’t mean it like that.
If only he could have convinced himself – it would have made things easier.

The Truth
Fandom: Supernatural
Author’s note: I chose to begin the story with the scene in Billie's library. That part mostly aligns with canon, but I feel it provides important context for the confession. Most of the dialogue comes from this transcript: http://www.supernaturalwiki.com/15.18_Despair_(transcript)
Summary:  The confession scene between Castiel and Dean ends a little differently.
Warnings: death, violence, injuries
Word count: 3764

...
“I'll let you in on something,” Billie says, her hand just barely keeping her own scythe away from her throat. She stands pressed against the wall of her library, where endless bookshelves stretch in either direction, each one containing hundreds of tomes, each one detailing someone’s death. She seems unconcerned by the blade’s closeness—and she has reason not to be. She focuses on Dean, ignoring the angel behind him. “When you cut me… that little nick? It was fatal.” She grimaces. “Something I can't survive. See for yourself.”
She reaches with her free hand and pulls aside her coat—or rather, peels it back from where it sticks to her flesh, which has turned a necrotic green, visibly rotting away. The ugly wound has spread from the cut on her shoulder across part of her chest, stretching down under her sleeve to an unknown extent. The infection seems to spread even in the moment before she allows the coat to fall back into place.
Dean falters slightly. Because Billie is right. That wound does not look survivable—that wound is death itself. Dealt by a blade that the previous Horseman had once said could reap God Himself. But he keeps the scythe at her throat—dying or not, Dean knows better than to lower it.
He may have made a mistake, coming here.
Billie places her other hand on the scythe, glaring.
“You killed me, Dean. So yeah, no. I don't care about your friends. I don't care about your family. But seeing you here has reminded me of something.” Her grimace of a smile widens, and she inhales sharply. “There is one thing I'd like… one wish, before I go. I'd like to see you dead.”
Dean’s expression hardens.
Billie suddenly shoves the scythe aside and surges forward, backhanding Dean with her right hand. Cas lunges forward to catch him. They both move towards Death—to do what, against her, neither knows—but Billie has already taken hold of her scythe and stands tall, powerful even as she grows closer to her end. She slices the scythe, Castiel and Dean barely lurching back in time to avoid it. Both men’s eyes are wide. This is not going to plan, not at all.
Billie smiles.
She thrusts out a hand and the angel and human are flung back, flying between two stark gray bookcases to land harshly on their backs. A single book on one shelf falls over, opening to blank pages.
Castiel and Dean struggle to their feet, Cas with one hand on Dean’s arm. He doesn’t seem to realize having done so, and keeps it there. Dean does notice, but he doesn’t mind. He reaches for Cas, as well.
Billie waits for them to get back up, standing there with her scythe. She is in no rush. She has a little time, for this. Maybe she’ll even kill the pet angel, first. Make Dean watch, before she claims him, too.
“I'm so glad you came.”
She stalks leisurely forward, amused as Dean and Cas dash down the row of bookcases, trying to get away. Yes, revenge is the perfect way to spend her final moments. Their fear alone is quite satisfying to watch. She follows her targets, smiling.
They manage to make it back to the door they’d so foolishly opened to reach her, and dash through the portal. It blends seamlessly back into the normal wall of the library as they close the portal.
No matter, Billie thinks. The chase is half the fun.
Dean and Cas run through the door, Cas slamming it shut behind them. The wall returns to regular brick. They are back in the bunker.
“Come on,” Dean says, reaching for Cas, already walking. Cas follows closely behind.
They know they are still not safe. Billie isn’t called Death, a Horseman, for nothing. Very few things can get in this bunker uninvited, but Dean is sure she is one of the ones that can.
Dean makes it to the map room, walking agitatedly. Because anything is better than just standing there, waiting for her to come. Dean spins around as he walks, searching for something, anything that can keep Death itself at bay. “Come on, Dean. Think, think!”
As Dean continues walking, searching, Cas speaks up, holding his hands out to the sides.
“Dean, where are you going?”
“I—I don’t know!”
“You know she can find us anywhere.”
Dean turns to him, desperate. “I know, I know that! I just....” He paces, then pauses opposite the angel. His voice quietens. “What do we do, Ca–“
Dean gasps, cut off by a shock of pain in his chest, like something has clawed its way inside and has sealed around his heart like a vice. There is a roaring in his ears, electricity in the air. The temperature drops several degrees.
Billie is here.
Dean groans, dropping to his knees, clutching his chest. Castiel stares in shock.
Billie stands behind him on the balcony above, one hand holding her scythe, the other held up, slowly clenching into a fist. She watches as Dean writhes. She is doused in shadow, but her satisfaction is palpable. Castiel knows she is smiling.
“Billie,” Cas says aloud. He looks at her, then drops to Dean’s side, taking him by the shoulders and trying to help him up.
“My heart—” Dean gasps, his voice gravelly with pain. “My heart. I can feel her.”
Billie, on the balcony, smiles wider. Her rotting, gnarled hand clenches  further, trembling. The power it takes to do this, to kill even this one human slowly, is draining her—she is quite close to the end now—but it is worth it, worth edging to her grave that much faster. Oh, is it worth it.
“Come on, Dean, we’ve gotta go,” Cas says. He can’t stop Billie, not right now, not like this. He has to get Dean out of there, somewhere they have time to think, to come up with something. He will not let Dean die like this. “Come on.”
He gets Dean on his feet and bears most of his weight as he guides the man down the hall, away from Billie, moving as fast as they can. Dean continues to groan in pain, but he is just as determined.
Billie, meanwhile, steps lightly down the stairs, taking her time, her injured hand still outstretched. Bits of bone are visible now. She seems not to mind. She simply follows, relishing this moment.
“It's you, Dean,” Billie calls. “It's always been you. Death-defying. Rule-breaking. You are everything I lived to set right. To put down. To tame. You are human disorder incarnate.”
Cas and Dean hurry on, passing by the tables, the useless telescope, the books upon books of lore that probably wouldn’t have helped even if they had time to search for something, anything, that would help.
Billie clenches her hand again and Dean collapses against a wall. Cas touches his shoulders, worried, terrified. They are briefly hidden from Billie’s view by a row of bookshelves. But she continues forward, relentless. Castiel looks over his shoulder towards her voice and the sound of her all-too-calm footsteps.
Cas heaves Dean up and they disappear downstairs, Cas now practically carrying Dean through the halls of the basement level. Dean still clutches his heart. Neither of them knows how much longer he will last if nothing changes.
“I’ve got you,” Cas says, half to himself.
Billie follows them here, too. Her scythe taps on the floor with every other step, almost like a cane. Small cracks appear in the floor each place it touches. Even the concrete, infused with warding magic as it is, is not immune to its power.
“Come on, Dean,” Billie says, her voice echoing down the hall. “You can't escape me.”
She drags the blade of her scythe against the tile wall. Cracks and an ashen color spread from the tip of the blade, like a spreading infection. Sparks fly, flaring in the dimness.
Ahead of her but still far too close, Castiel and Dean hurry on, the grinding of the blade against the wall grating on their ears. Dean would cover his ears, but he can only manage another wince, one arm wrapped around Cas’s shoulder, the other clutching his chest.
Billie is having fun, toying with them. She strolls further forward, ignoring the infection clawing its way further up her chest, spreading like ink in water up her neck. “Don't you think it's finally time? Time for the sweet release of Death?”
Cas and Dean make it into the main storage room, and Cas slams the door shut behind them. Dean, released, stumbles to the side, only to be quickly steadied by his companion. Still, Dean doubles over, coughing, wheezing, holding his chest, leaning heavily on one of the shelving units. Billie’s vice grip continues to tighten. His vision is filled with black spots.
Cas finds a pocket knife in Dean’s back pocket—he knows his hunter well, and Dean would never be without one—and uses it to slice into his own palm. He then paints a bloody sigil on the door. It flares with light as Castiel finishes drawing. There is no such thing as warding for Death itself, but this is the closest and most powerful sigil he knows. He can only hope it will work. It has too.
As the glow of the sigil fades and its magic takes effect, Dean’s shoulders slump; and he takes in a deep breath, the pain fading. He straightens, leaning on the shelves.
“Thank you,” he gasps.
“It worked?” Cas asks, hardly believing it.
Dean swallows hard and nods once.
“It blocked her grip on you,” Cas observes, relieved, but not relaxing just yet.
Billie slams her fist into the door. It shudders, but does not yield.
Cas turns to look, and seeing that the warding is holding, looks back to Dean. He looks to one side, then the other, thinking. “Dean, she said that wound was killing her. Maybe we can wait her out.”
Dean drops his hand from his chest and levels a look at Cas. “Yeah, and if we can't?
Cas sets his jaw, his angel blade appearing in his hand. “Then we fight.”
Billie’s fist slams into the door again. The warding flares with light. Not quite so bright, this time.
Dean notices, and shakes his head. “We'll lose.” He looks around the storage room, at the solid walls, the single exit. He wanders over to the devil’s trap laid into the floor, and runs a hand along the back of the chair there. “I just led us into another trap,” he says, not needing to gesture at the literal prison they stand in.
Slam. The warding flares. Weaker.
“All because I couldn't hurt Chuck. Because I was angry, and because I just needed something to kill, and because that's all I know how to do.”
Cas takes a step forward, his heart breaking, because that’s not true at all. “Dean...”
Slam. Weaker.
Dean scoffs, his gaze darting to the door and back to Cas. “It was Chuck all along. We shouldn't have ever left Sam and Jack. We should be there with them right now.” His voice breaks, and his eyes are shining now, only making Castiel’s heart ache further. “Everybody's gonna die, Cas. Everybody. I never… I never even got to apologize to Jack. The kid probably still thinks I hate him. And Sam—I’ll never see Sam again.” He shakes his head. “I can't stop it. She's gonna get through that door.”
Slam. Weaker still.
Castiel’s angel blade disappears. He looks down. “I know,” he admits quietly.
“And she's gonna kill you, and she’ll make me watch. And then she's gonna kill me.” Slowly, he didn’t need to add. And everything, everything, is going to just… end.”
Slam. Weaker still. Cas looks over his shoulder, thinking. A part of him tells him that Dean is right, that this situation is hopeless. It might be different if he still had his wings, if he could take them somewhere, anywhere else, just for a little more time, enough to wait Billie out. It would be different if Jack was there, and if Jack still had his powers. There was a time when he was powerful enough—but their failed attempt to kill God has left Jack nearly powerless. His grace seemed barely strong enough to keep him alive.
Slam.
“I’m sorry,” Dean says, a desolate resignation in his eyes.
But a thought has occurred to Castiel: Jack.
He pauses, staring ahead, thinking. “Wait, there is.... There's one thing she's afraid of. There's one thing strong enough to stop her.” He looks up and sees Dean staring at him.
Dean Winchester. Beautiful as ever.
Cas takes a breath, steadies himself, and decides. He looks Dean in the eye, suddenly strangely calm.
Slam. Cas barely hears it.
Dean senses the change in tone and frowns, waiting for Cas to continue. Which he does.
“When Jack was dying, I… I made a deal, to save him.”
Dean is taken aback. Of all the things he might have expected Cas to say, this was not one of them. “You what?”
He looks at Dean, almost pleading. This is the moment, he knows. “The p—the price was my life. When I experienced a moment of true happiness, The Empty would be summoned, and… it would take me. Forever.
Dean stares for a moment, processing. A moment they do not have. Billie’s fist slams, again, into the door.
“Why are you telling me this now?” Dean asks. He has a bad feeling about where this might be going, and he does not like it.
Cas smiles, tears already collecting in his eyes. “You know, I always wondered… ever since I took that burden, that curse, I wondered… what it could be? What my true happiness could even look like. I never found an answer, because the one thing I want... It's something I know I can't have. I’ve always known, I think. But I think I know... I think I know, now.” He smiles, a tear rolling down his cheek. His voice breaks. “Happiness isn't in the having, it's in just being. It's in just saying it.”
Dean doesn’t know how to even begin to process this. “What are you talking about, man?”
Behind them, Billie continues her attack on the warding. But it holds, for now. And neither Cas nor Dean notices her anymore. Not really. This is their moment, not hers.
Castiel steps closer, looking at Dean earnestly. Willing him to understand, to believe him. “I know. I know how you see yourself, Dean. You see yourself the same way our enemies see you. You're destructive, and you're angry, and you're broken. You're “daddy's blunt instrument.” And you think that hate and anger, that's... That's what drives you, that's who you are. It's not. And everyone who knows you sees it. Everything you have ever done, the good and the bad, you have done for love. You raised your little brother for love. You fought for this whole world for love. That is who you are. You're the most caring man on Earth. You are the most selfless, loving human being I will ever know.” Castiel smiles. He’s crying, and he doesn’t care. “You know… ever since we met, ever since I pulled you out of Hell... knowing you has changed me.”
Dean blinks hard and looks down at the floor.
“Because you cared, I cared. I cared about you. I cared about Sam, I cared about Jack... I cared about the whole world, because of you.” He takes another step forward. “You changed me, Dean.”
Dean clears his throat and speaks, quietly. Because he knows, he knows what is happening, and he knows what Cas plans have happen. But he asks, anyway. Because he doesn’t want to believe it. “Why does this sound like a goodbye?”
Cas just gives him a soft look. “Because it is.”
Dean takes in a breath, to say what, he doesn’t know, but Cas cuts him off. He’s practically radiant with joy, at finally saying it. At speaking his truth, after all these years. Because even if he can’t have Dean, Dean will know.
“I love you,” he says. “I’m in love with you.”
Dean’s mouth opens. Closes. He stares. His voice is choked. “Cas, I… Please, don’t do this.”
Time has run out.  Behind Dean, the spine-chilling sound of the Empty grows, black goo squeezing through the bricks of the wall, tendrils branching out into this world. Dean’s mouth opens as he turns to stare at the rapidly opening portal, all too aware of what this means. There are tears in his eyes, now.
Castiel knows, too. He is still smiling. Still joyful. Radiant. Because he’s finally said it. After twelve years. He spoke his one, deepest truth. He is ready.
Dean’s mind is running a million miles a minute. “Cas….”
Billie has broken through the warding. The door swings open, and she steps through, grinning. The necrosis of what were once small wounds has spread, eating away at her arm, her chest, her neck. The hand that was cut by the scythe is practically skeletal, now. What is visible of her chest is little more than bone, gaps visible between them and ribbons of gray-green flesh. Yet her grip on her scythe remains steady.
She hasn’t seen the Empty, yet.
Cas ignores both entities, focused only on Dean. His eyes shimmering with tears, he steps forward, and puts a hand on Dean’s shoulder.
“Goodbye, Dean.”
But Dean isn’t quite ready for a goodbye, yet.
“No!” Dean says. He grabs Cas’s hand—the cut one—and shoves Cas aside. Cas is so surprised by the turn of events that it works, and he stumbles, not quite falling, staring at Dean, confused, now. There’s a bloody hand print on his shoulder, just where the now-faded mark was on Dean’s shoulder, from when Cas raised him from Perdition.
Billie steps further into the room. And then she sees the Empty. Her expression falters, her head tilting to the side. “Oh….”
She doesn’t finish. The black slime of the Empty slams into her, climbing and crawling and consuming until nothing is left but a ball of blackness; and then Death herself is sucked into the Empty.
Gone. Forever.
Cas smiles at Dean, a small, knowing smile. One of relief that Dean is safe, but also resignation. Because the Empty is still here to collect its prize. Because nothing has changed.
Except that it has.
Billie’s scythe remains. It falls, its owner gone, blade swinging down to the ground.
Dean catches it.
In one sweeping motion, before Cas or anyone else can react, he swings the weapon around and sinks the entire blade into the Empty, just as it begins to surge towards Cas.
This blade could kill Death itself with one little cut. Death, the old Death, had once said that this scythe could reap God Himself.
The Empty… stops. It freezes, still reaching out towards Cas, but goes no further.
It pulses.
Dean lets go of the scythe, steps back, towards a stunned Castiel, and grabs the angel’s trench coat in one hand without looking at him. His face is slack with shock as what he has just done. With fear that it won’t work.
The scythe turns black. A black so dark that it’s like a hole in the fabric of the world—just like the Empty.
The Empty pulses.
Cracks begin to spread, radiating from the sunken blade. The cracks seem to leak a faint, fragile light.
And then the Empty explodes.
Dean is alive.
He is pretty sure of this, at least. He doesn’t think his head would hurt so much, if he were dead. Unless Chuck thought it would be funny to send him back to Hell, or to Purgatory. Which is a distinct possibility.
So, perhaps pain doesn’t rule out death as much as it might for anyone else. But Dean really doesn’t think he is dead.
He hears a cough, from somewhere nearby. Dean opens his eyes.
He is lying on the floor of the bunker’s storage room, dust motes drifting in the air. His head pounds. His ears are ringing. He slowly sits up, feeling faintly punch-drunk.
The Empty is gone, as is Billie. The shelving units, lore, and supplies of the store room have all been blown back by the force of the explosion, and lie crumpled against the walls, bottles broken, precious artifacts crushed, pages strewn across the floor.
Dean is not alone in the room.
A body lies on its side beside him, clad in a trench coat, facing away from him.
“Cas?!” Dean asks loudly, his voice cracking.
Castiel groans. He shifts, and Dean feels relief—and anger, and so, so much more—wash over him. He rushes to Cas’s side and turns him onto his back, searching his face.
They’re alive. They’re both alive. Billie is gone, the Empty is gone, and they are both alive.
Cas blinks up at Dean from the floor, blue eyes wide. Dust and a bit of blood are streaked across his face. “Dean?”
“Cas,” Dean sighs. He looks around the demolished room.
“Are they… gone?” Cas asks. He seems oddly distant. Dean can relate.
“Yeah… yeah, I think so. Come on—get up.”
Dean and Cas both struggle to their feet and dust themselves off. Dean pats away a bit of dust from Cas’s lapel, and Cas watches the gesture, silent.
Then Dean jabs his finger into Cas’s chest, hard, and fixes him with a hard glare. Cas looks down at the finger, then stares back up at Dean, dumbfounded.
Dean’s voice shakes with anger. “Don’t you ever—ever—do something like that again! Do you hear me, damnit?”
Cas stares, his mouth slightly open.
“…Dean, I…”
“Did you really think I was going to let you do that? Just—just drop that on me, and—and die? How could you something like that to me? That is not okay, Cas!”
Cas continues to stare.
Dean stops, scoffs, and lowers his hand. He looks Cas over for a moment—living, breathing, Cas—thinking. And then he swallows, and nods. “We are not done talking about this,” he promises firmly.
And then, because today has gotten crazy enough, pulls the angel forward, and kisses him.
Dean releases the stunned angel a second later. “Now let’s go find Sam, and our kid.”
They still had a God to defeat.
...
Thank you for reading!
One additional tidbit I want to make clear: This alteration does, in my story, mean that Dean doesn't die on a piece of rebar. Cas goes with on the vampire hunt-the vampires do not, by the way, wear weird skull masks-and while Dean does get impaled, Cas is able to save him. And when Jack has time, he returns to visit his fathers. (Dean still has a dog, because Miracle was the best part of the episode.)

The Monster in the Dark
Word Count: 1,311
Also on AO3 [Masterpost]
It was normal for kids to be afraid of the dark.
That was what all of Cas' parenting books had said at least. Dean had taken to reading them when Jack came back from his stint as God, wanting to be in a body his age. While it had certainly taken some getting used to (a four-year-old standing by the bed and staring, unspeaking and unmoving, waiting for him to wake up was, quite frankly, horrifying), everyone had gotten to a good place. They were comfortable with having a child around, and it brought out the best in everyone.
Sam had never wanted to be a father, but he slipped into the role of uncle easily, just as Eileen was an excellent aunt who spoiled Jack with a trip into town for ice cream every few weeks. As much as Dean had always feared becoming a father like John, as much as he wanted the distance of being an uncle like Sam rather than a parent, he did find himself easing more and more into being a dad.
And Cas...Cas seemed as if he was meant to be a father. Dean didn't know if there was something about being an angel that made him more able to raise a nephil, but he did it and he did it well. He knew how to balance Jack's moods, how to banish nightmares, and he was learning how to goof off and have fun, to see how the floor was lava and the appeal of a vinegar and baking soda volcano. He did it all, and even when some days were rougher, when his own issues wore him down and he climbed into bed exhausted, he could always manage a smile for Jack.
Dean had never seen Cas so content, and he had never seen someone parent so well.
It was Cas' shoes he had to fill a few months later, when Sam and Eileen were traveling abroad and something urgent in Heaven called Castiel away. He hadn't shared details with either of them, but he'd promised movie nights when he got back, to make brownies and read stories and make up for time away. Jack promised to be very brave and to be good for Dean until Cas got back.
As much as Castiel assured Dean he would be fine for the week or two he'd be gone, Dean hadn't been convinced. Maybe he'd been right to worry, because only a few days later, Jack woke him up to tell him about a monster in the dark, how much it scared him, how he wanted to be protected. He didn't say it, but Dean knew he wanted Cas, too.
Dean knew what monster he was talking about, remembered them from his own childhood after running through a mental list of vampires, ghouls, and ghosts.
Children believed in a monster that lived under their bed, one that would grab ankles and smile sinisterly through a cracked door. They would lurk in darkened corners and wait for eyes to close and then they would creep closer. Sam had feared them, too, while Dean had been more worried about the creatures his father hunted.
What Dean didn't understand was why. There was nothing in the dark that would hurt Jack, at least not here. The Bunker was safe, warded extensively. That knowledge meant nothing to Jack, so Dean looked for other ways to reassure him, to convince him he was safe.
John Winchester had given his children a 45. Most books suggested a nightlight to banish the monsters. As much as Dean's hunting instincts defended his father, he went out and bought the latter.
For a few nights, it worked well, but soon enough even light didn't banish the monster.
Dean leaned more into what he knew from hunting and tried a circle of salt around the bed, a few sigils throughout the room. While he knew nothing could possibly be in the Bunker with them, maybe this would help to convince Jack. After all, he knew a little about real monsters, whether from memories of his first three years of life or from walking in on a discussion about whether they should keep hunting with Jack so young now. While they were careful with what they told him, did the best they could to keep him from growing up in fear, Jack knew salt was protection just like sticking his head under his blankets was.
Again, it worked for three naptimes and two nights, but Dean still found himself spooked awake by Jack standing by the bed again in his glow in the dark pajamas.
This time, Dean just lifted the covers and let Jack climb in.
That was the sight Castiel came back to a few days later. Dean woke as Castiel slid into bed, Jack sandwiched between them.
“Morning, sunshine. Just get back?”
“Yes,” Castiel said, voice hushed so as not to wake Jack. With a little nod toward him, Cas asked, “How has he been? Have things gone alright while I was away?”
“Yeah, he’s been really good. Listening ears and everything.”
“That’s good,” Castiel sighed. “I was worried because I haven’t been gone for so long before, not since before he came back. And even though he’s more used to Eileen and Sam not being here all the time, having them and me gone at the same time isn’t something he’s dealt with before. And you know I love you and think you’re a great parent, but you’re just one person and he’s so used to having so many people around and with everything going on in Heaven I might need to go back again soon and—”
“Sweetheart, you’re rambling.”
“Sorry. Just been a lot going on.” As Dean was about to ask what had gone on in Heaven, Castiel’s expression shifted to one of confusion. “Why’s he in here?”
Dean looked down to Jack, peacefully sleeping. Part of him worried what Cas would think of him as he admitted, “He kept talking about a monster in the dark. I tried a light, like in your books, and a salt circle, but it didn’t help. This is all that’s worked.”
“I thought we had passed that,” Castiel said with a sigh, running a hand across his face. “He’s talked to me about that, too.”
“Oh.” Dean felt a semblance of relief knowing that this wasn’t a new problem. “Any ideas why?”
“I think he remembers the Empty,” Castiel confessed, looking tired and worried. “The same way he remembers things from hunting and little details from cases, his mother…”
They both fell silent for a beat.
“How have you comforted him? Other times he’s talked about this.”
“I tell him a story about a man who’s been caught by the monster. He’s tired and cold and scared, and he’s so far from home. But no matter how far he is, he knows someone will save him. There are people who love him, and they’ll save him no matter how scary the monster is. They’ll bring him home.” Castiel shifted, voice growing softer still. “He says it’s a good story, that he’ll be brave and bring me home if the monster comes for me.”
Dean didn’t know how to respond, but he didn’t get much of a chance to.
“Cas?” Jack mumbled sleepily. He stirred for a moment before his eyes opened and crinkled in excitement. “Cas! You’re back! You’re back!”
The worry in Cas’ eyes disappeared and he took Jack into a tight hug. “Morning Jack. Do you want to help me make pancakes?”
“Yes!” Jack climbed out of bed with speed and agility that made both Cas and Dean laugh. “I’m gonna put chocolate chips in mine!”
Jack ran off towards the kitchen, and Castiel and Dean rose to follow him.
“Cas?” Dean said. “It’s good to have you home.”

The start of a gallery regarding Belphegor and the guys, but including a great deal of meta and extra gifs behind the cut, including relevance explicitly to Dean and Castiel, as well as Belphegor’s mythological relevance.
Edit: Since this post is making the rounds I’ma drop in my Belphegor meta-fanvid too. The meta/extra gifs are below the vid.
youtube
Yeah I know I’m a day late, no I don’t know if anyone has beaten me to this, I know some people beat me to talking about belphegor beyond me vagueblog screaming about him showing up on twitter with livetweets. For those who haven’t seen:
Belphegor - a Moabite god absorbed into Hebrew lore and then Christianity as a major DEMON. The name Belphegor means “lord of opening” or “lord Baal of Mt. Phegor.” As a Moabite deity, he was known as Baal-Peor and ruled over fertility and sexual power. He was worshipped in the form of a phallus. -- that giant rock he talked about worshipping, there you go.
In the KABBALAH, Belphegor was an angel in the order of principalities prior to his fall. He is one of the Togarini, “the wranglers.” He is an archdemon who is part of the demonic counterparts to the angels who rule the 10 sephirot of the Tree of Life; he rules over the sixth sephirah. He sits on a pierced chair, for excrement is his sacrificial offering. In Christian demonology, Belphegor is the incarnation of one of the SEVEN DEADLY SINS, sloth, characterized by negligence and apathy. According to St. Thomas Aquinas, all sins that arise from ignorance are caused by sloth.
Belphegor also rules misogyny and licentious men. He emerged from HELL to investigate the marital state among humans. For a time, he lived as a man to experience sexual pleasures. Appalled, he fled back to hell, happy that intercourse between men and women did not exist there.-- here’s the big block that I find fascinating.
Gully, Rosemary. 2009. The Encyclopedia of Demons and Demonology. New York: Visionary Living, Inc., pp. 27-28.
(For more discussion of Belphegor’s history and mythology on this blog, click this link (x) but I’m mostly narrowing it down to what’s relevant for address here.)
With that out of the way, I refer you to the gallery above, which is only a fraction of what I’ve clipped from the episode.
(Edit: As new things have come to light with a rewatch, or as new thoughts come up, I’ve been reblogging this post with additions; however, at the end of the post, I’m going to make headline titles for update thresholds and include it in here as a sort of Belphegor introduction masterpost. Any time I get to glance at part of this episode again it just gets LOUDER.)
The camera work is uncanny. Castiel and Dean are repeatedly cast not only as a unit, or Sam blotted off, or divided, but of a point of focus. A few more examples:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh wow Belphegor really just staring at them.
Think I’m just choosing frames I like? Check back at the scene. Whenever Sam engages it’s literally from a different, peripheral shot as so:
Tumblr media
This filming style isn’t single shots, but the entire scene. Oh, I don’t mean the entire scene, I mean the entire episode. The only place this rule wavers is when literally everybody is packed in the Impala, including when they save the mother and child, and until people decompress it’s impossible to do such controlled shots.
But then there IS when they decompress as I put in the original gallery.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Belphegor sits witness to the pain and upset over Cas, unable to look at him. And, shortly after talking about the giant penis he used to worship and flirting with Dean, asks who the child was to them after Cas has stormed out, finding out about it being their son.
At this point both Castiel and Dean have had their standoffs with Belphegor, which I side by sided in the top gallery. But Dean’s integration with Belphegor goes an entirely extra level.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We’ll handwave any deep readings about the heart of a man being needed -- but the simple fact is, as we know, this is when Dean and Belphegor encounter the white woman.
That alone is a fascinating point;
Whether you take Sam’s encounter as his serial killer fetish, or his clown phobia, or some people’s read of toxic parenting, or a combination of these -- the first two more likely to tickle the general audience -- this is clear.
Whether you take Cas’ encounter with Bloody Mary as the secret about Jack and guilt over Mary, or the secret over the Empty and general guilt over failing Jack, his connection is loudly clear.
The woman in white was a spouse betrayed by her partner and driven to madness where she killed her children and then herself -- something fairly clear if we remember the metaphorical ledge Dean was on at the end of the season that he steered away from, but the argument continues.
Blahblah *heterosexual handwave* just subtext just interpretation only the other two matter for Reasons(TM), we know how that will go. This, or the random divorce drop from the victim girls for totally inoccuous and random reasons aside, is just a worthwhile note to put in here as we consider the framing of Belphegor.
Throughout the episode, Sam has no identifiable major exchange with Belphegor. He happens to be in the vicinity, occasionally mediating Dean and Cas, or in the same car, but there is no forward led conversation, there is no personal tension or banter, and most of all there isn’t even any attempt at directorial focus. If anything, directorial blotting. Sam’s plot shines more in being a forward moving, smart hunter mediating the two here, but if we’re here to look at Belphegor--
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As Castiel sadly watches the rescued mother and child go to the school, in the wake of the death of his son, Dean only tersely checks on him. It’s strained, and Castiel is left staggered, only for us yet again to find Belphegor framed into the conversation, observing, as he has through the previous shots.
Belphegor’s placement is right between Dean and Cas, leaving it almost inevitable that as we move forward, he will annex emotional territory if by trust or nuisance to dig a deeper wound and antagonize the marriage he observes dissolving in front of him, a very personal and living manifestation of their struggles for these two to overcome, and inevitably part of what will send Castiel away briefly in 15.3 as he feels himself growing more and more detached from the Winchesters -- particularly Dean, as Sam is actively still engaging with him as is typical of them but like Entertainment Weekly recently put it, Castiel does has his favorite Winchester, and they’re totally-not-going-through-divorce-waves here, just totally heterosexual brovorce, of course.
Given considering my position of the overt and present canonicity of their relationship please note I’m only writing sarcastically towards the inevitable stupidity that haunts this fandom via anti dialogue and those that internalize it, but here it is, folks.
If anyone wants to even try to challenge me, I invite them to find Sam drawing belphegor’s focus on any front or being framed in the shots as Castiel and Dean are here. Belphegor is ... going to be a ride, folks. Buckle up. He’s literally been observing the hunter husbands, wracked with pain over the loss of their child, in active conflict despite their lingering stance as a unit, having held his ground with both of them to feel out their pain and rage each to themselves, and left to sit, and watch, and find what dark humor he may watch from them.
“Wanna talk about it?”
(Suggested reading: check out @tinkdw‘s post about them dividing Cas from his humanity *ba dum chink* and focusing on his angelicness this episode)

UPDATE 1
A belated addendum a few hours late I forgot to include but intended to: It has not escaped me that Dean and Cas also were both part of Belphegor’s spell casting. The aforementioned heart of a man with the trivial second ingredient of salt (truly not trivial at all in the alchemical scale of it, but that’s a topic for another time--just in SPNverse it seems weirdly easy; breaking down the alchemy in the last few seasons and the use of the salt in spell is its own essay), and the other common graveyard dirt and very conveniently angel blood. These things both created intensely powerful deus ex machinas that fall back to other points I made in the OP that are incredibly suspicious about the arrangement, and I’m more curious on if we should expect multiple parts of a spell eg reverse trials if you will or what.
I don’t consider these things a lack in SPN spellcasting integrity in writing. I consider these warnings.
UPDATE 2
Along with updates in the original post, someone posted this clip on twitter giggling about Dean’s expression, and something else I somehow missed the first time caught my eye.
youtube
Every time Belphegor opts to observe people or turn, while he comments on beauty and appearance (or stone penises or Dean being gorgeous), beyond his individual compliment of Dean – he is turning his head at couples. Or, well, we assume couples. At Units Of Two People. The two people units are:
A woman and a woman A man and a woman A man and a man.
Outside of the vehicle Belphegor is not taking any particular time paying attention to individuals. Only duos. The two women pass in front of the hearts, and one (the woman in khaki) even gestures at it to sort of make the woman in green look.
Tumblr media
The man and the women walk by, vaguely locking arms.
Tumblr media
Belphegor looks straight between these units. He leans forward, discussing people on earth being attractive. He turns and looks out the window to observe the two men now walking past the window with hearts.
Tumblr media
Drops the comment about worshipping a giant penis, and so forth.
But the direct observation of duos, potentially queer ones literally framed in hearts in case anybody misses it for not being hetnorm, is… well, in lieu of the OP, this is. Yeah. It’s a whole thing. Holy crap.
UPDATE 3
This one isn’t necessarily big enough for a central update, and isn’t even entirely Belphegor focused as Belphegor adjacent. A friend ( @tarend ) had asked passively why bikes were so prominently featured in this episode, so here’s what I’ve found.
Tumblr media
The green and blue bikes feature predominantly in the clown victim house from the first scene we see the garage, fairly early in the episode and every other showing until they’re extracted from the house. Often central, doorway, access, or backshadow in most shots. Trying to pin it on a single character would be ignoring the broadness of it, but the presence was enough to take note of.
Tumblr media
Various two people units roll around with bikes of different and more muted colors.
Tumblr media
The two dudes, one of them has a green bike and one has a grocery sack which I imagine ISN’T fruit from the tree of life.
I do find it weird and, especially since the green and blue bike collectively manage to get several shared minutes of screen time in a busy episode, I have to wonder, but I can’t find anything meaningful here without jumping to the common “green and blue” thing and a random joke-reach towards Queen which isn’t really my flavor of meta despite it even kind of matching the people passing by. The overlap is there and tangible, regardless, and passes in the background of Belphegor, so I’ll leave that here as a general sentiment.
Compared to the above gold mine of far more overt material, if this ever was intended to be an intentional nod of some sort, I feel like it’s been overshadowed entirely by the other content which might as well have been blasted from a bull horn, but maybe someone else can find use in it in association. Aside from the street highlights in the car while Dean sits by with Belphegor, the prominent double bike placement is best witnessed rather than screenshot into eternity in any scene involving Clown House Garage.
Though I may point out the dynamic impala shot with the paired bikes in the background is immediately followed by a stroller that colllectively haunt the three people in the car, but whether I’d swear to that being intentionally syncretic, I’m unsure. But I do feel it’s worth notating.
Tumblr media
I’m sure you all know I’m guarded about things like this fandom’s build on key colors and don’t apply it in meta outside of standard lighting theory, and generally even props are things I ignore unless they’re actual framing and blocking focuses, but the bikes do ride a line. They just lack the overall thematic story use most things I talk about do, like mystic symbols and the ilk. I would probably completely disregard this were it not for the other elements above, but now I’ll be keeping an eye on it.
UPDATE 4
Yet another thought more from @tarend than me, but his ass just about never posts so I might as well plug it into the viral post with some credit.
There seems to be painstaking effort to frame Belphegor with stop signs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cough
Crack aside it’s just some angle play that could be coincidence but I’m going to be throwing that out there for meta fodder for others while this spreads around until I can truly rewatch since life is seriously climbing me right now.
Tarend also points out the school was named after The Great Dissenter (Link).
I’m going to have a bit of a comparative study on Belphegor’s and Chuck’s mannerisms for consideration but life didn’t even give me 30 minutes for a video edit today much less a rewatch.

You’re Now Mine (Chap 13)

“FULFILLING A REQUEST FOR @lets-personofinterestontumbir! – “COULD YOU DO A DRABBLE FOR THE PERSEPHONE AU I DON’T KNOW IF YOU’VE SEEN ONCE UPON A TIME BUT THE EPISODE 1X07 REMINDED ME A LOT OF THIS STORY WHEN THE EVIL QUEEN RIPPED OUT THE HUNTSMEN’S HEART IF YOU COULD DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT IT WOULD BE AWESOME. THANK YOU.” “ Words: 2,087 Warnings (for the fic in entirety): Dark AF, Emotional/Mental abuse, smut. FOR THIS CHAP: Major character death, angst
Chapter 12 || Chap 14 || Masterpost || Persephone series || Fanfic masterpost
Placing your silverware down, you stated, “Lucifer, I don’t know if that is smart.”
“If what is?”
“Facing Am… your aunt.”
Raising his eyebrows, Lucifer inquired, “And pray tell me why not?”
“She… she’s powerful.”
Lucifer cocked his head, giving you an indignant look. “And what do you think I am?”
Swallowing, you tried to figure out the best way to phrase it. “Didn’t you have help last time? You might get hurt.”
Sighing annoyed, Lucifer said, “That is exactly what the Hand of God is for, princess.”
“But –”
“Now, don’t you go worrying your pretty little head about me,” Lucifer spoke over your protest. “I’ve got some tricks up my sleeve… such as more than one Hand of God to wield at a time.” You gave him a confused look and he smirked, “Please don’t tell me you think your inept friends could possibly the only ones to locate one.”
You wondered where he had found one and what it was. You knew better than to directly ask this and instead asked, “So… you’re just going to take theirs too?”
“Take? Absolutely. As you know the Winchesters as stubborn as they are, I am going to need to pry that thing from their dead, cold hands. They won’t give it up willingly.” The color drained from your face and he chided, “Princess, I just told you I was going to kill them. Keep up will you?”
Your mind raced, thinking of all the awful things he would do to them.
“Let me go with.”
Lucifer scoffed, shaking his head. “You must be joking.”
“No. Please. Let me go with,” you pleaded. “I can convince them to give it over willingly. So you don’t have to kill them.”
He chuckled darkly, “Oh, so you want to go with to protect them?” He leaned in and you held his stare. “What makes you think even if they give it willingly, I won’t kill them anyway?”
Mouth dry, you started, “Well… I figure if you are able to take it without trouble, there is no need—”
“No need? I still have a score to settle with them. Or have you forgotten?”
“Would that not settle the score?” you tried.
“No.”
“But, why would you kill them when you could count on them to keep the monsters in line? Monsters deaths surely have an influence on what is going on with Purgatory, no? You are working with Heaven now and you have hell under your control. Another realm seems like a lot to put on your plate. Them killing and keeping the numbers down keeps the monsters in hiding and on the run from hunters so they won’t ever be an issue for you.”
Lucifer chided, “You are grasping at straws, Princess. I don’t care about Purgatory or their monsters. They’ve always stuck to themselves.”
“Except Eve. Or the Leviathan.”
“Well, that was the Winchesters and Cassie’s fault. And trust me, that still eats away at him. Seems keeping them around causes those mishaps which makes things like Purgatory which normally aren’t a problem become a problem.”
Trying again, you said, “But what if God shows up. He’s obviously got something planned for the boys. Won’t you at least humor me?”
“If my dad cared, he would have showed up by now. And considering I just let you out of time out after you were so inconsiderately rude…”
“I know. I’m sorry,” you said desperately. “But please. The bigger picture here. Think about why your father made them in the first place. They could be an asset depending on what he wants from them. He has to show up some time.”
Lucifer was silent, his eyes boring into you. The seconds crawled, you waiting for his answer.
Slowly a smirk tugged at his lips and you did not like the cruel gleam in his eye. “You know, you may turn out to be helpful. I don’t think they are going to do this without tricks. It would disappoint me honestly if they didn’t go out without a fight.” His eyes flicked down to your plate. “Are you finished? Dean is praying again.”
Swallowing sharply, you nodded.
Leaning in, he ordered you, “Stay right by my side, be my little peach, and when this is done, we can go topside. Get some fresh air.”
Traveling with an angel never got easy, the tightness in your chest and feeling like your essence was being squeezed taut. You gasped loudly when you landed, trying to draw breath back into your lungs. Lucifer’s arm was tight around your waist, his touch grounding you. Your fingers dug into his chest, trying to relax against him.
It took a few seconds for you to recognize the heat around you. Your eyes moved to the flames licking around your legs.
“Shit.” Dean’s voice drew your attention.
Lucifer tutted, his hand holding you at the small of your back. “Hmm. Remember what I told you, princess. It seems staying close is your best option.” To Dean, Sam and Crowley, he stated, “I’m sorry. Your prayer implied I would be joining the team, but I’m just not feeling the warm and fuzzy here.” To you, he asked, “Do you feel welcomed?”
You shook your head and he smirked.
Sam and Dean looked between each other, worried.
“Oh… wow. There it is.” You followed Lucifer’s gaze and saw a horn partially covered by a cloth near Crowley. That must be the Hand of God the boys had found. “Powered up by dad himself. That bad boy plus me, that oughta take her out alright.” He beamed down at you, giving you a little shake. “Let’s get to it, right?”
To the boys, he gestured down at the holy fire. “Douse the flames.”
The boys did not budge, and you furrowed your brow. The more they refused to speak and move made you all the more antsy about what kind of trap they had thought they were setting for Lucifer. He was right, you knew they would not give it up without a fight.
You felt Lucifer tense and your heart race began to pick up. He could not harm them from in here but that did not stop you from worrying.
“Or don’t…?” he said slowly, his fingers digging into your back ever so.
Sam and Dean exchanged another look, swallowing sharply. Sam shook his head at Dean ever so slightly. Dean’s gaze was back on you, calculating.
“Dean,” Sam warned from behind him.
Lucifer cocked his head, “What’s the hold up, fellas?” He took notice of the pew beside Dean, his eyes narrowing in suspicion. Dean saw him and moved to try to block it, but it was too late. “Looks like there’s something slightly drawn there, Dean-o. You mind sharing with the class?” Dean refused to speak, and Lucifer surmised, “Something you had planned to, I don’t know, hurt me with?” He chortled, his free hand coming up to touch your jawline lightly. “I don’t think you were expecting her though. Threw a little wrench in your plan, didn’t it? Hmm, bringing you along did prove extremely helpful, even if it was not in the way we thought it was going to be. My perfect little helper.”
His eyes flashed back to Dean, amusement gone instantaneously. He growled, “I am done with these games, boys. Hand over the weapon. Whaddaya say? Or we can wait for the warding to fail and I’ll take it.”
The silence in the room was deafening as Dean and Lucifer stared each other down. Lucifer’s grip laxed and you looked at him curiously. “I know I said stay right by my side, but would you give me a step back, princess?”
You did as he asked, nervousness clawing away at your insides, unsure of what he was planning.
“Bloody hell,” Crowley said defeated before his essence was sucked out of him, traveling right into Lucifer. You leaned back frightened watching it disappear into his mouth before his head slumped forward and he was silent.
Stepping closer again, you touched his arm, staring at his face. “Lucifer?” you whispered.
“Y/N. Step back,” Sam said moving closer to the fire.
“And go where?” you snapped at him and he recoiled at your tone. Sighing angrily, you said, “He brought me to help convince you two to give it to him willingly. Do you not think that would have been the smarter course of action?”
“We were trying to get Cas to kick him out so we could put him back in the cage!” Dean told you firmly.
“Well, that went swimmingly,” you responded irritated. “Good job.”
Dean looked offended and Sam said, “We had to try, Y/N.”
Shaking his head in annoyance, Dean turned away from you, looking back at Crowley. He walked closer to the bench Crowley had fallen back onto.
Rowena appeared from the hall near the back of the room and exclaimed, “Exorcise him, will you? Get my son out of that vessel and back into his own! Can’t you people ever do anything right?”
Ignoring the insult, Dean and Sam set to work to exorcise Crowley from Castiel’s vessel. Sam began reciting the exorcism spell, Castiel’s body beginning to jerk in response. Dean threw the holy water at him over the fire; the water sizzled, causing Castiel’s body to flinch on top of the jerking. Your stomach twisted, seeing an exorcism being performed on him. His body was seizing.
It worked though, relatively quickly. Crowley was thrown back into his own body and he told you guys that Lucifer’s hold on Castiel was too strong to break through. Your dismay was cut short by Rowena furiously pointing out that the flames were dying down and she disappeared, leaving the group of you.
Typical, you thought to yourself.
“Ah, my patience is so thin, you cannot even imagine,” Lucifer sneered, straightening back up again. He noticed the flames were gone and threw a glance at you. There was a glint in his eye, as if he was daring you to run now that you were able to. You stayed put nervously.
His attention back on the boys, he said, “You know, I could have been your warrior.”
Sam acted quickly, spinning to run back towards the horn but it flew off the bench past him right into Lucifer’s awaiting hand.
“Well,” Crowley murmured before disappearing.
Like mother like son.
“It’s just like Crowley to leave right when the party is getting started,” Lucifer commented. He gestured at Sam and Dean, “Have a seat.” They were both thrown back onto the benches behind them, stuck fast. Fear creeped as Lucifer stalked towards them, a predator playing with his prey.
“As much as I get a giggle out of you two – and I do,” Lucifer said with a scornful tone. “There comes a time when every relationship has run its course. So…”
Time slowed as you watched him raise his hand and clench his fist, dread slamming into you, the breath frozen in your lungs.
Immediately, Sam and Dean grunted loudly, looking to be in excruciating pain. The veins in their necks strained against skin, their teeth grinding against the torment Lucifer was inflicting upon them.
“No!” you exclaimed loudly, forcing yourself to rush to Lucifer’s side terrified. “You said you wouldn’t!”
“I never said anything of the sort,” Lucifer replied dryly, his eyes burning into the boys. He cranked his fist and they shouted in agony, their shouts reverberating up your spine.
You reached up trying to pull his arm down to no avail. He was too strong. “Lucifer! Please!”
He refused to look at you, turning his fist sharply again and their grunts turned to weak gasps. The life began leaving their bodies. You watched horrified as they slumped slowly, eyes fluttering. Sam made eye contact with you, despair in his eyes. Your chest heaved as a sob escaped watching their chins dip to their chests, them not moving anymore.
Lucifer sighed, straightening up, his arm coming back down to his side, your own hands still holding on limply.
“Well,” he drawled, “That was satisfactory.”
Frozen to the spot, tears ran down your face looking at your friends. He had killed them.
Suddenly Lucifer grabbed your arm, anxiousness in his tone, “We need to go. Now.”
You barely felt him tug you to him, your eyes not leaving Dean and Sam before the world went dark as Lucifer propelled the two of you with a strong burst of his wings.

My Life With You
IV. So There's This Guy... Dean's been spotted around town and made quite the impression on the local singles. (All chapers can be read stand-alone)
Read on AO3 | Fic Masterpost
The sun was long past the horizon, the high street illuminated by the yellow-amber glow of the street-lights and the dim coloured lights spilling out from the bars. The spring air was cool and still, the whoops and hollers of the rowdy Friday night crowds echoed through the centre of town.
In one of the bars that lined the street, a group of early-thirties women gathered together to toast to another week of work behind them. Pushing past their exhaustion was their relief, their ecstatic joy at being free at last, even if only for two days. The ladies sat around a high circular table covered in a rainbow of different fruity cocktails, curly straws, and paper umbrellas. Already the table was littered with empty glasses of drinks long since backed.
“So…” began one woman, Rachel, pushing her long blonde hair behind her shoulder. “I saw the hottest guy at the playground the other day.”
Tia, a tattooed, bespectacled brunette, leaned in eagerly. “Oh?”
Rachel gave a knowing look to her friend before she began her story…
“It was on Wednesday, on my day off. I took Ethan out to the playground near my house, and it was all normal; the usual moms and nannies,
“Anyway, then I spot this guy helping his little kid, the cutest kid by the way, on the slide. There are a few dads around sometimes, you know, but this guy- when I tell you he was cute, it’s an understatement,
“He was so good with his kid too. The way he smiled at that kid, it was like he felt just so lucky to have him. Every five seconds he was squeezing him, or ruffling his hair, or kissing him on his little forehead.
“I just thought, I bet he’d make such an amazing step-dad, maybe I should get on that. A guy like that’s definitely not single I bet. I don’t know if he’s married, I couldn’t see a wedding ring from where I was sitting, but I was pretty far away.”
“So you didn’t speak to him?” a third woman, Sara, with hair in a neat puff and arms wrapped tight in a thick cardigan, asked, straw perched just below her lip poised to take another sip.
“No, I just watched him from afar.” Rachel sighed dreamily, recounting the man’s devilish smile and angled jaw in her mind.
“Why not?” Tia pushed, playfully slapping her friends arm. “You need to get back out there since Mike.” she spits the name and follows up with a gagging gesture.
“I know, I know.” Rachel shrugs, shrinking somewhat from her earlier excitement. “I’m still working up to it, but if I see him again I swear I will.”
The fourth woman, Yulia, took a big sip of her mojito, almost like a deep inhale, then added. “I have a cute guy story too.”
Tia perked up immediately and starting bouncing in her seat. “Okay, okay, spill.”
“So,” Yulia began, fiddling with her tall glass and nervously shuffling in her seat. “He’s been coming into the café every morning to get coffee,
“He’s tall- actually not that tall, maybe six foot? But still - tall. Anyway, he came in on Thursday morning and he actually made conversation with me. When he got up to the counter he gestured up to the menu and was like ‘I don’t know what half these things mean’. And I just laughed really nervously; it was so embarrassing. His smile was so pretty, you guys, I just melted. Then he said ‘Cas is the one who knows about all this stuff, I can’t keep up, you know, coffee is coffee.’
“I think Cas is his wife or something ‘cause then I clocked he had a wedding ring on. Shame. Anyway I just said ‘yeah’ really awkwardly in a sort of half swoon; I couldn’t come up with anything to say. Then he goes on to order the most complicated drink with like, three different flavour shots in it. He says ‘it’s not for me’ like he’s so embarrassed about it, it was so cute. I was like ‘no judgement, you can order whatever you like’. I really didn’t mean to sound so thirsty.
“Then he leaves and, I don’t wanna admit this, but I watched him go, you know. Nice ass.”
Sara, who was seemingly the most composed of the four, shook her head, snickering at her usually timid and reserved friend openly thirsting for coffee shop guy. Tia was frowning, trying to string together a thought that was forming messily and incoherently in her slightly tipsy mind.
“That kinda sounds like the guy who fixed my car…” Tia mused, voice a little slurred.
“Oh my gosh,” Yulia gasped, more excited than this particular revelation really called for. “I think coffee shop guy did say he was a mechanic at one point.”
“Wouldn’t it be crazy if it was actually the same guy though,” Tia said, before taking a big sip through her straw. “The car guy was really hot too. Like, I was twirling my hair the whole time laughing at everything he said.”
“Oh my god, Tia,” Sara shook her head. “Did you know he was married?”
“Yeah I saw the ring, whatever,” Tia laughed. “I bet I can steal that bitch’s man.”
“God, stop it.” Sara scolded through her laughter.
“Seriously, unless she is the perfect vessel of divine beauty, I could totally steal him,” Tia continued. “I mean, when I came to pick up my car there was definitely something there,
“I walked up and he, unprompted, was like ‘you’re the girl with a cute little bug, right?’. I was like,” Tia stuck out her chest, letting her cleavage peek out of her tank top in a cartoonish pose, and began to speak with an over-the-top sultry tone.
“‘Yeah, that’s me; cute girl for the cute bug.’. And then he laughed a little bit. Then he even commented on my tattoos he was like ‘nice sleeve’ and we talked about them a little bit and I asked him if he had any and he said he has one, but it’s on his chest. So… I was a little brave and I said ‘Oh, well you can show me some time if you want’ and I could have sworn he got a little flustered.”
“He probably got flustered because he was at work and he’s married!” Sara protested.
“Maybe,” Tia conceded with an unbothered shrug. She seemed a little lost in her thoughts. “He looked so good with a little car grease on him though. I’d buy a calendar of that guy. You know, I would so objectify him.”
“Tia, please.” Rachel grimaced. “Here’s me talking about a sweet loving father, and then there’s you flirting with a married mechanic.”
“I mean, not to be judgemental,” Sara added. “But how do you know he’s not like a typical misogynistic macho type?”
“What, just because he’s a mechanic? That’s so judgemental, Sara, you can’t make assumptions like that.” Yulia scoffed. “He seemed really sweet. When he was talking about his wife, you could tell he really loves her. I didn’t get a typical ‘I hate my wife’ vibe from him.” Yulia gave a sympathetic look to Tia. “Sorry, Tia.”
“Doesn’t matter, I still think I have a shot.” Tia shrugged. “What ‘bout you, Sara? You got your eye on anybody? Some nerdy glasses guy who reads Jane Austen or whatever it is you’re into.”
Sara rolled her eyes. “Actually yeah, a really sweet guy came into the library this week with his kid. He’s probably too old for me, and I think he’s married, but he had dark hair and really nice blue eyes,
“He took out a bunch of picture books and he told me that he’d just moved here recently. He also borrowed some gardening books, which was like, swoon. He just seemed so genuinely sweet and honest. The way he spoke was just… kind?”
“He’s definitely gay.” Tia asserted. Sara just gave her a weary look. “I’m just saying every guy you like turns out to be gay. You have a type, and it’s gay guys.”
“No way! Dan wasn’t gay.” Sara pouted.
“Yeah, but he was bi, and he moved to Florida to be with his boyfriend Julian.” Rachel added.
“Well technically I had a shot with him. You know, before he moved to Florida.” Sara said, deflated. “I mean, library guy didn’t seem gay. Not that it matters anyway.”
“How does someone seem gay?” Yulia pondered honestly.
“Well it’s not like there’s one set of traits for gay people,” Tia said. “But I think a pretty good predictor is if Sara has a crush on them.”
“Shut up.”
“Woah guys, oh my god!” Rachel hissed, patting Yulia’s arm furiously. “The guy, the hot dad, he just walked in. Don’t look, but he’s right by the bar!”
The other three immediately started craning their necks, very obviously, to get a good look. There at the bar seeming to be ordering a pair of drinks was hunter, husband, and father; Dean Winchester.
“Dude, that’s the car guy.” Tia said, getting a good look by standing up on her tippy toes.
“Yeah, that’s coffee guy.” Yulia confirmed.
Tia sat back down. “Don’t tell me that’s library guy too?”
“No,” Sara shook her head. “Library guy had dark hair, remember.”
“Uhhh, that him?” Tia said, pointing towards the table that Dean was quickly approaching, two beers in hand, where a smiling Castiel sat in wait.
Sara gasped. “That is him.”
Dean, as soon as he had placed the two bottles down on the table, leant down to plant a quick kiss on Cas’s lips. As he pulled away, the girls could see Cas smiling up at Dean, his gentle gaze soft and sincere, while Dean looked back at Cas like he was looking at the most precious thing he’d ever laid eyes on, which he was.
The ladies sat in stunned silence; what they’d just witnessed was somehow disheartening and heartwarming all at once. Tia was the first to speak.
“Sara, you’re cursed.”

StackedNatural Day 151: 13x17
StackedNatural Masterpost: [x]
April 5, 2022
13x17: The Thing
Written by: Davy Perez
Directed by: John F. Showalter
Original air date: April 5, 2018
Plot Synopsis:
Sam and Dean continue to collect the pieces necessary to open a rift to the other world in order to save their family. Their latest quest leads them to a Men of Letters bunker from the 1920s and a hungry God from another dimension. Meanwhile, Ketch makes a shocking decision about Gabriel after an unruly encounter with Asmodeus.
Features:
A tentacle ritual, a Rhode Island chapterhouse, a flapper girl from the 1920s, archangel grace infusions, Ketch getting his ass kicked, Sam getting kidnapped, rogue Men of Letters, Yokoth the interdimensional God, traumatized Gabriel, the Seal of Solomon.
My Thoughts:
I hadn’t seen this episode before but to be honest as soon I saw the tentacle I was kind of ready to check out. I was pleasantly surprised! Aside from the bad special effects in the A-plot, I actually thought it was really interesting and well done, if a little too easily resolved for my taste. They had to leave room at the end for the Ketch and Gabriel reveal and I can understand that. The directing was really elegant, I particularly liked the shot of the leaves raining down when they first opened up the chapterhouse and the fight choreography in the diner.
I’m a fan of Davy Perez’s writing as well - he’s clearly a Deangirl, with the actually-happy-for-once Dean in the opening of the episode and the lavish compliments on his face from the tentacle god from another dimension. It was a jarring shift between happy go lucky “jinkies” Dean and “I’m in charge and you have to stay here” Dean that I wish had more of an explanation. It seems wild that they don’t even call Cas to let him know what’s going on or to wait for him to come through. He was in Scoobynatural last week so there isn’t a reason for him not to be in this episode. And it’s his son that’s missing!
It had been so long since the Gabriel reveal happened that I totally forgot about it and had to go back and read the wiki to remember what’s happening with the Asmodeus plot this season. I don’t remember how, when, or why he and Ketch started working together. Ketch and Asmodeus are two of my least favourite characters (rounding out the list with Donatello), but I actually didn’t hate their plot line this episode. I like seeing Ketch get the snot beat out of him (and hopefully some of his ego), and the framing of Asmodeus as the source of Gabriel’s obvious trauma gives him a little more heft as a villain so he isn’t as boring or annoying. The archangel grace addiction is… weird. I’m sure it’s relevant later, or earlier and I forgot, but I just feel like angel grace should burn demons and not get them high.
Also, I feel like these other Men of Letters characters should come back, or at least they should have rented a uhaul and collected all the research and artifacts from that chapterhouse. Are you gonna drive all the way to Rhode Island every time you need something from there?
When we first started watching Supernatural again Nic @weedsinavacantlot told me that there was Sabriel bait and I feel like we’re just getting into that, which is equal parts hilarious and insane.
Notable Lines:
“Oh my God. That's tragic. It's like a Hallmark movie. But with tentacles.”
Laura’s (completely subjective) Episode Rating: 8.8
IMdB Rating: 8.5
In Conclusion: I wish Dean would never stop saying “Jinkies”.

Still not able to come up with an argument about the Epilogue treating Gamzee (the murderous corpse molester) better than Jade (sat around for 3 years with depression only to have a dog dick and then be abandoned by her friends) huh? Guess you're just an idiot and willingly sucking Hussie's dick for a job at Whatpumpkin down the line. Maybe write some incest porn like IPDG and you'll get hired.
Tumblr media
Wow get a load of this guy.
Okay I should probably just delete your comments and not give you the time of day, but you’ve been periodically sending me this kind of ask, and I really have to ask, do you really, really believe you’re someone with some sort of Moral High Ground right now? Like I’m not even defending the Epilogues as masterpieces or trying to shove them down people’s throats. I am literally just enjoying the content the WP Team put out and talking about it, and you come to my Inbox, to spew this accusatory nonsense and flinging insults. If you can’t read the Epilogues in a positive manner, and think they’re dogshit, sure, go ahead, but you’re like, trying to act like I’m some sort of brainwashed sheep and you’re trying to make me see the light. Also “Still not able to come up with an argument“ very passive-aggressive there, I have talked about the Epilogues, my opinions and takes on them, and how I feel about the way they deal with characters at LARGE here, if you haven’t bothered to look for the info, and the several responses to some of your asks, then don’t blame me for it. But sure. Let me talk about every single point you JUST mentioned here like some sort of big Masterpost, and when you don’t agree with my point either way, stop fucking harassing me on Anon, seriously you alone have been making me consider turning anon off entirely, which all things considered may just be the healthiest option I could consider, but here I am!
Still not able to come up with an argument about the Epilogue treating Gamzee (the murderous corpse molester) better than Jade (sat around for 3 years with depression only to have a dog dick and then be abandoned by her friends) huh?
Okay let’s begin with Homestuck proper. Gamzee is a Villain. He’s framed as such, people have constantly shown backlash against his character because he’s got fans that would like to see him redeemed, since a good chunk of his story happens with him brainwashed or mind-altered in some sort, but every time he’s shown to go back to doing awful things and killing people. He abuses Terezi, kills Karkat, and gets killed by Kanaya in return in one Timeline, and in another he gets locked up in a fridge, ends up in Caliborn’s planet, and trying to serve his Lord just gets beaten up, shot, left half-dead, until his final appearance in which he gets cut in half and absorbed into Lord English. Then, the Epilogues happen, and he becomes the butt of a joke about undeserved redemption arcs. His very existence in Candy is a joke that he’s not worth redeeming, actually, but tries to force himself to ‘seem’ like he has, despite ruining Dirk’s funeral, making Jake and Tavros’ lives miserable, supporting a Fascist ruler, taking advantage of a potential minor, and it all ends up with him being choked, killed, and his corpse being used as a Weekend at Bernie’s joke. Like... Is that really what you consider ‘good treatment of a character’? He gets away with a lot of bullshit, but he’s like. Constantly, and consistently, shown to be unpleasant, gross and awful. Like. He’s an awful person, and a comic relief, that does fucked up shit for most of his appearance, and I am not sure how any of this can be read in any sort of positive light. I’ve seen Gamzee fans MAD at how much he gets shat on.
Meanwhile, let’s take Jade. A huge theme of her character, sadly, is loneliness and isolation. I dislike that, like many Jade fans. She’s forced into depressingly helpless situations where she lacks agency or control over her own body, or the situation she’s in, and it’s shown affecting her greatly. I want my girl to be happy as well. So when the Epilogues came, and had her getting Callie-possessed, that was bad, it was like, AGAIN she gets the shaft. I want her to be happy and do what she wants to do and be badass with her powers! But- Oh wait, none of that is what you’re complaining about!!! You keep insisting on the Dog Dick instead of any of the genuinely heartbreaking things that happen to her. Jade has a dog dick. It is mentioned once in the entire Epilogues. It mildly affects her desire to have a child with Dave, but she doesn’t even shown herself that broken up about it, and had been looking about potential alternatives, even having Rose as a surrogate. There’s not a single joke made in the Epilogues about her HAVING a dog dick, nor any sort of isolation that happens as a product of her genitalia. Is it a weird choice to canonize that headcanon? Yeah! It kind of is! But this is also a reality where Obama and Dirk make out. And if someone is uncomfortable about Jade having a dog dick, or doesn’t like her being more openly sexual, then that’s fine!!! If they have a transphobic read on Jade, that’s fine!!! You can dislike it, and Homestuck, and the Epilogues, and the writers! But I, as a trans woman myself, and one who’s horny on main a lot of the time, liked the freedom Jade expressed to just do whatever she wanted with new partners on Earth C, and her seeming acceptance and lack of conflict at just, having junk. She does fuck up with Dave and Karkat, because she pushes them a bit too hard, specially Karkat, trying to use the Quadrant System to insert herself in a Black relationship. In Candy, this culminates with political tensions breaking Karkat away from the triad, which is bad for everyone involved. But in Meat, Jade states that they can tell her to just stop and she will, because she genuinely likes both Karkat and Dave, but their feelings are too deeply bottled and complex to just come to light. Does this put some tension in her relationship with them? Yeah! Does this ISOLATE her from her friends? No! Karkat and Dave DO still wanna hang out with her even if she’s a bit too much. John and Jade apparently chat online a bunch, and Jake seemed to have a good relationship with Jade before the whole Jane thing. She is close enough with Rose and Kanaya that Rose considered the surrogate mother thing. She has friends and ties! The major things that happen to isolate her is, Karkat leaving- Caused by Jane’s rise to power- Dave dying- Caused by Ultimate Self Timeline Shenanigans- And being possessed by Callie- All things outside of her control. I want her to get her agency back, but beyond that, her, as a person on Earth C, was not abandoned by her friends, and your obsession over her dog dick as a root of her issues and the bad stuff that happens to her says more about you than about the Epilogues in my opinion.
Guess you're just an idiot and willingly sucking Hussie's dick for a job at Whatpumpkin down the line. Maybe write some incest porn like IPDG and you'll get hired.
You know what? Yeah I would love to have a role at WhatPumpkin. Because I’ve seen the people working at it do other things, and I’ve seen their passion for Homestuck. The people currently doing Homestuck love Homestuck, and this is not up for fucking debate. As for the incest porn thing? Fuck you. Fuck you, fuck you, and a thousand fucking times fuck you. Once again, trying to get some stupid moral high ground mentioning incest. “Oh look at me, I am criticizing someone for something they wrote years ago”, is how you actually sound, and that’s only on the surface. V from Homestuck was never confirmed to be ipgd. V got harassed, and ‘doxxed’ by dubious sources and, I believe, Kiwifarms shit was going on at that time, so that was extremely shady and shitty. And the result of them being equated ended with ipgd being told to kill themself because of old fic they’d written, which, GUESS WHAT, was actually a critic to the way Incest was extremely popular in Fanfic back then, written by ipgd themself, a god damn survivor of that same bullshit they wrote about!!! Congratulations! THAT is the kind of bullshit people like you pull. You just cling to some idea of what’s right and wrong, and end up hurting real people that’ve gone through real shit, instead of considering nuance to your actions and thinking that, HMM, PERHAPS I SHOULD NOT HARASS SOMEONE ON THE INTERNET BECAUSE THEY DID SOMETHING I DON’T LIKE OR HAVE AN OPINION I DON’T AGREE WITH! But nah, let’s go send death threats to people we don’t like, riiiiiiight????
My fandom wish for homestuck 2 is the characters are treated with respect but since every single one of the new authors hate women and only want dirk and jake as well as Dave and Karkat to fuck on screen while Vriska gets comphet child raped by gamzee why bother lol.
Like, I don’t even know what to say. Have you seen like... The rest of the work the WP Team is doing with Homestuck stuff? Addressing actual issues? Doing right by the characters? Acknowledging their fucked up stuff while also showing them in positive lights? A good chunk of the Team, too, is queer? Like if they were all cis straight dudes I could see your complaint but they just. Aren’t??? At all???? Even Taz, who’s probably the biggest Dirk-Jake fan around, absolutely wants the best for other characters, yes, Jade and Rose included, you are just too jaded and blinded by your perception of the Epilogues. Vriska and Gamzee... Yeah that’s iffy. I am not going to defend that, whether it was a mistake with the ages or it was just Gamzee being more awful, that was extremely nasty. There’s also like, suicide and abuse and dictatorship in the Epilogues though. All of this shit that happens is awful, but also it’s not PROMOTING it or saying it’s a good thing? It’s... Fucked up. Comphet though, I dooooooooo want to elaborate on that, because, while I do like the reading of Vriska as being more into women, she does show a near-consistent fascination for Nic Cage and, then, ARquius as someone with a similar aesthetic? Like don’t get me wrong, Vris-Rezi is absolutely the way to go and the healthy thing for Vriska, but also I am not 100% sure if you can gloss over every single one of her relationships with guys as Comphet? (Compbi? Since it’s Trolls) Not to say it justifies anything with Gamzee, that was just nasty. But I feel there’s nuance to talk about Vriska’s sexuality.
Hussie doesn't like his fans or care about Homestuck, how you can read the Epilogue and say the opposite it honestly insane and a complete bold faced lie. Any author that cares about their work would read someone demanding a character be given a dog dick and say no. Any author who cares about their work and their fans wouldn't have released such a purposely bad and painful epilogue and then demand payment for a resolution. Just give up. That's the moral of Homestuck. Give up. It's pointless.
Nah man, you’re just jaded and hurt and projecting. Hussie and the WP Team love Homestuck. It would’ve been so fucking easy to just stop doing Homestuck and move onto something, not even release an Epilogue. It’s like when Homestuck ended. People accused Hussie of a rushed ending with Act 7 back in the day, of disliking Homestuck and the Fans, of having just wrapped it up quickly, but like... If you want to wrap Homestuck up quickly... There were a million fan theories and endings out around that would’ve been so much simpler, easier and basic than what we got. The fact we got Act 7 and all it entailed, the shit the characters go through the Epilogues, of course a lot of awful shit happens, but like... Precisely? If you’re tired of doing something, you just wrap things up. You don’t set up new plot points and mess with the characters and push a new narrative outlook on something. This is the work of an experimental team that still do love the content and characters. Again, you return to the fucking Dog Cock like it’s the biggest sin the Epilogues commit. You haven’t even mentioned Jane’s fascism a single time, but you’ve mentioned Jade’s Dog Fucking Cock like fucking twenty times. Who the fuck cares about what sort of junk Jade has, the Epilogues themselves barely even care, it’s mentioned in the passing and it hardly affects a THING at all. You ask me how I can ‘read the Epilogues and see the opposite of what they say’, and I ask you the exact same thing, because despite all the awful things that happen, Rose and Kanaya keep fighting against tyranny in Candy. Kanaya realizes she’s been brainwashed and chases after Rose because she’s NOT giving up on her wife. Roxy explores their gender identity and finds new things about themself. Karkat gets to live his rebel leader dreams in one Timeline, although with a bitter split from Dave, but ends up together in a proper relationship in Meat. John’s arc in Candy about feeling isolated from a world that seems fake, before realizing his nihilism has hurt the people he cares about and wanting to fix it. Jake’s morale of ‘better late than never’, working up the courage to take Tavros away from Jane- And in HS^2, working as a double-agent trying to sabotage Jane from within? Jane’s been shown at her worst in candy, but in Meat she’s shown to still be redeemable, and that’s exactly what the team’s aiming to do, too.
Like... I can see all the bad stuff that happens. And I find the reactions of the characters to these awful situations are interesting, and the political conflict among friends and the pushing forward in such a dark situation, resonates with me, personally, and some of my own experiences? Not to say, the Epilogues are a Game Over scenario? They are a low point. HS^2 sets up to be the high point. Like... When Game Over happened, a lot of people were like “Welp, Hussie just killed everyone, lol, guess he just got tired of Homestuck”, despite the Retcon Powers being there as the obvious solution. Epilogues, lots of shit happen, and similarly there’s still like a hundred ways to build up from there to a satisfactory resolution? Storytelling can have low points you know. It hurts when it’s characters you care about, duh, specially when it plays into the weaknesses they already acknowledged but fell into again despite themselves. I see why so many people would dislike them and take a more negative vibe from them than they actually convey. But I am still baffled as to why people like you feel entitled to shit on the WP Team and send harassment and insults to people who do enjoy them. You’re not helping anything. You’re not doing anything good. You’re just being a dick.
As for the “demand a payment for a resolution”, they didn’t demand anything? I will be the first one to say that I don’t like the Extra Bonus for 5 bucks, and think it would be better if the Bonus got released like, a month or two after it has for Patrons, an ‘early access’ scenario like I do with my Patreon. And I hope they change this. But aside from that??? The Patreon is optional to support the creators because, it’s not just Hussie, it’s a big team, and they’re also using the Patreon to help them with other projects like Pesterquest and Hiveswap, because we live in a capitalistic hell world and need money to be able to pursue passion projects. The main updates every month- And twice a month starting February- Are completely free for people to read, still, the paywalled content still circulates around the community despite being paywalled, and other paid projects like, Pesterchum, for their scope and the amount of fun they’ve given me, they’re super cheap and worth it.
You ask me how I can ‘see the opposite the Epilogues say’, you tell me that I am an ‘idiot sucking Hussie’s dick for a job at WP’, you act like I am scum and brainwashed and there’s literally no reason why I should ever like something you don’t.
You know what I am though? I am happy and excited about the things I’ve been given! I am happy with the representation I’ve seen the Team push lately. I’m happy with the way the characters have been treated in Pesterquest and have high hopes for HS^2. And I am interested in the events of the Epilogues, while acknowledging that of course a lot of fucked up shit happened in them.
Back when the Epilogues happening and I was reading them, I was reading Candy at like 4 AM and was LOVING the fucked up-ness of the Timeline and wondering what may happen in Meat. I got a PM from a friend asking me to make a channel in a server I’m in, to quarantine Epilogues Discourse, and was genuinely confused as to why there was Discourse going on. I went through the rest of Candy and Meat with some dread waiting for some ball to drop and something to turn really controversial, and I finished them still enjoying them? Obviously there was a lot of awful shit. Obviously there was a lot of things people wouldn’t like. Obviously they were tales that likely alienated a chunk of the Fandom that was looking for a happy ending. But honestly, the unbridled fury and subsequent harassment of people over them is just plain embarrassing. It was confusing then, and it’s even more confusing now, well over half a year since their release, and still sending random Tumblr Blogs this kind of bullshit.
So there you go! All of your questions and your bullshit, answered! Now let’s get this out of the way: You’re not going to like my answer, you’re not going to agree with a majority of what I just said, you’re not going to CARE about any of what I just said. Spare me the fucking asks and anon hate. Just move on and do something productive with your time.
