He stared for a moment, heart sinking as he saw you crying. Quietly, he drew you into his arms, gently shushing you and running his fingers through your hair as he guided you into leaning on his chest. You could feel the material of his dark grey button-up shift against your cheek as he curled his shoulders around you protectively, shielding you from the world. "Darling, it's alright... I'm here for you. And if I can help it, I'll never allow that to happen to you again, ok...?"

He gently hooked his index finger under your chin, to guide your head up so you could see the sincerity in his golden eyes. His thumb gently brushed over your cheek, wiping away the trail of tears with tenderness.

"I'm here, whenever you need me. Always. And I'll do whatever I can to help you feel better, ok? So... Let's go get you bundled up in some nice soft blankets, and if you want, I'll read you your favorite book until you fall asleep. How does that sound?"

He smiled gently, shadowy skin crinkling at the corners of his eyes at the movement, as he moved his other hand to gently wipe at the tears on your other cheek, eventually settling into cupping your face between his hands gently, leaning in for a brief moment to place a quick but tender kiss on your forehead. "Or I can kill them for you," he joked, "but I doubt you actually want that, haha." His eyes glanced to the side and down, the smile fading slightly. "It does make me upset to know you were treated that way, though. I wish I could do more for you, darling. I hope this is enough..."

He trailed off as he curled himself around you a bit more, holding you close and burying his face in your hair, sighing softly as he carefully walked the two of you over to the couch, gently scooping you sideways into his lap for cuddles and flicking a fuzzy blanket around your shoulders. "Just... please know, that you are always loved. I'll be here for you, as long as you want me by your side."

zurui onna, hidoi otoko and the like crazy cover are connected to underground idol, specifically junrie HEAR ME OUT

zurui onna is sung from the perspective of junji. some verses are about rie and others are about another woman who junji is involved with. this would make sense with the dialogue that they have in because (source: because behind the scenes)

after junji and rie fight, junji goes to his other lover's house (like crazy cover) one last time. this especially fits with the opening lines - "she's saying, 'baby, come and follow me, there's not a bad thing here tonight ... stay with me a little while'". he tells her that while he does like her, he can't sustain a relationship where they're both being unfaithful (zurui onna), and contemplates how he should have just stayed with rie all the time. i feel like the ending shot of like crazy is him leaving for the last time, after having a parting kiss with his other lover. he feels ashamed that even after his fight with rie and the realization that he should be with rie instead, he still was intimate with her. that's why he wipes his lips in an attempt to wipe away her kiss.

ooo's work is not very chronological at all so i also think that this scene, and the scenes of him in the denim jacket in general, have to do with rie. here he's standing outside his doorstep, contemplating if he should knock.

he doesn't knock. him and rie smooth things over later on instead, at the pool scene in because. this is also reminiscent of seoul drift, and how throughout ui junji the one approaching rie and initiating things with him, and rie finally reciprocated in seoul drift.

and finally, a note on hidoi otoko. i think it's their first and only (so far) song to explicitly refer to their lover as male, and it definitely feels sung from the perspective of rie. lyrically it describes being in an on-and-off relationship with someone, and wanting to stay with them forever instead of the instability they have now. the lover doesn't listen - reminds me of this line in the because mv

rie wants to talk about the issues in their relationship so that it can last longer, but junji is impulsive and only wants things to be perfect now. (he realizes this was a mistake after the fight).

also it wld make sense for a jp release specifically to be from their povs bc their stage names are japanese

Whumpee is brought back to life by Whumper, maybe Whumper is a mad scientist who brought them back for fun or research, or maybe Whumpee died and Whumper just couldn’t handle the idea of their precious Whumpee being dead (especially if they were the one who killed them in the first place).

Then they meet Death, or in other words, Caretaker. At first, Caretaker is ready to kill Whumpee for real, because they don’t believe anyone should have the right to escape death, but then they find not only is Whumpee incredibly abused, but also Whumper is the one who brought them back.

...so they take pity on them and grow rather protective of Whumpee, and decide to not only spare them, but become their friend and protector.

I thought the game was exciting enough already but knowing what happens in the novel makes it so much more interesting, especially when playing the part of the antagonist. It's rare to see novels like these adapted into games and I'm so excited to continue reading your story!

I'm glad that reading the synopsis is getting you excited about the game!

At first, I just wanted to make a game about one of my favorite childhood stories and was going to go with the hero's POV. But then, trying to plan the story out, I realized that Lagardère doesn't interact with all the main characters a whole lot... As opposed to Gonzague who has a relationship with pretty much all the main characters of the story.

Then I got really excited and the story took a completely different path, lol. One of the reasons I love this story is its charismatic villain. But of course, I made Gonzague my own and changed their motivations a bit. In the original story, he's a lot worse, but there was a seed of what I'm trying to accomplish there.

In the book, there's a small passage mentioning the fact that Gonzague doesn't particularly enjoy doing bad things. He's just been on that slippery slope for too long and can't really get out of it. But he doesn't really regret anything either.

And in the 60s TV series, there's a line where he says something like "I don't love evil, but what can I do when evil loves me?" Which he says very sassily lol. But I imagine that's what the Gonzague I'm writing feels like, they're just not as amused about it.
