RB Headcanon

The Rescue Bots had to completely rewrite the Rescue Training Manuals before opening their Academy, because not only did they now have to include training and procedure for Earth/Human-based rescues, but they also realized that some of the old methods and techniques from their training days were severely antiquated.

Blades is going through the old rescue manuals and finding that most cures for various ailments were the cybertronian equivalent of "Shove a spoonful of cocaine down their throat and send them on their way-"

I was rewatching fire in the sky (full analysis here) and noticed that whenever Starscream shot Skyfire to punish him, Starscream didn’t hesitate at all to shoot him and Skyfire never questioned the violence itself that Starscream is exerting, only why he did it, so it leads me to wonder if this was normal for them even before the war, like one of those twinks who always hits their bigger bfs for fun cause they’re skinnier

Charles tilts back against the wall, panting breaths his ghostly body doesn’t need, a hand pressed against Edwin’s chest holding Edwin against the brick next to him. He leans to the side, darting a look around the corner, then jerks back hard enough to knock him into Edwin’s side.

“How does it look?”

“Not great, I’m gonna be honest.”

“Hmm.”

Edwin’s brows are furrowed, he’s glaring at the ground, and Charles recognizes the signs of his brain over-heating, and then he remembers something from about a decade ago.

“What if - what about the Silver and Steel Technique, from the Case of the Bumbling Brownie?”

Edwin’s head whips up. “No.”

“You said yourself, it’s easily confused. We just need to dazzle it a little, long enough to get across to the summoning circle. It’s our best play, mate.”

“Absolutely not.”

Charles grins at Edwin, whose eyes widen, and he dodges back right as Edwin grabs for him, right into full sight of the monster.

Charles looks twenty feet up at the monster, then back at Edwin, then back at the monster, and raises his hands high.

“Let’s do the fork in the garbage disposal!”

Edwin lets out what Charles is fairly certain is a string of very foul curses in Aramaic but before the monster can lunge, Edwin’s at Charles’s side, matching Charles’s pose, arms in the air, hands waving, hips swaying back and forth, feet hopping, body spinning.

“Ding ding ding da-ding ding da-ding ding!”

“Ding ding ding da-ding ding da-ding ding!”

The whole SPEW thing reminds me of a lot of older British fiction. It's pretty clear that Hermione is at least misguided, but we definitely also see that she's tenderhearted. This is the same sort of ploy used in [Austen's] Emma, for example. A favorite tactic of pro-empire and pro-class system literature is to have a character who battles the class system far too openly and ends up being wrong. S/he sees legitimate flaws in the social order, but in trying to rectify them, goes so overboard that we can feel comfortable retreating to the same inequitable system we had before. (For women, this usually involves making friends of an unsuitable class and being unable to properly civilize them. Men usually have to work with subordinates in the military and come to realize that officers really are inherently superior… or some other rot.) At the other end of the spectrum is the Indian Hater, a common figure in American Westerns. The Indian Hater is a bigot so intensely bad that in comparison, we/the reader can be prejudiced in a normal, everyday sort of way and feel ourselves to be paragons of reason and justice. I would venture to say that Lucius Malfoy fulfils this role. The other HP characters don't mistreat house elves as much as he does, so they must be nice, moral people, right?
