so i have adhd right? ive known this since i was in first grade, this is nothing new. HOWEVER. i started thinking recently that I might have autism, because almost all of my autistic friends have said to me "are you sure you're not autistic?" so I went in to a neuropsychologist and asked him if i could maybe have autism.

now, this guy is very old-fashioned. doesnt get the "whole trans thing" and from what i can tell, doesn't believe in the autism spectrum. I think that because when I asked him about it during my ADHD eval results, he said "no, i don't think so" and then word-for-word, "see, you're making eye contact with me right now".

so no diagnosis.

now the reason this is funny, is i based james almost completely off of myself. i wouldn't exactly call him a self-insert, more of an author's mirror image in a way. nearly every choice he makes is the same one I would in the given situation. so you rolling up and saying he has autism meanwhile a professional with a degree said i didnt is just hilarious.

I adore the art piece you did for the Smoky Progg and Glow Pikmin, but I’m unsure as to what the implication of it is meant to be? I’m probably being stupid and missing something obvious despite reading the Piklopedia notes, but I just wanted to ask.

It stemmed from me talking with friends about the role of glow Pikmin, and how messed up they are. Regular Pikmin kill creatures for self-defense and reproduction, they are at the bottom of the food chain and provide food for a lot of the fauna on the planet; even at full strength (as in, with a leader) they hardly pose a threat to ecosystem balance.

Glow Pikmin escape this role completely, to the point they feel like the anti-Pikmin. For one, the consensus is that they are not "alive" and are not affected by "death", and thus have no need for self-defense or retaliation, yet still do. As such they provide nothing for the ecosystem except death for the nearby creatures.

Let's drift a bit more into theory territory. Regular Pikmin benefit from killing creatures by scavenging their corpses. Glow Pikmin discard this element completely, and instead scavenge the glow pellets left by them... Here's my interpretation: "physical" Pikmin scavenge the bodies of creatures, "soul" Pikmin scavenge their souls, in the form of these pellets. This is also why their nest light up at night - to attract them.

Here's something even weirder: this process results in the creation of glowsap, a liquid who the glow Pikmin seemingly have no use for, but is known to have plant-destructive properties, and a reinvigorating effect on creatures who drink it; even protecting you from Pikminification, if you needed more proof glowmins are the anti-Pikmin. Aside from the odd implications that "plant" creatures create a product that kill plants, I'll let you decide the ethics of drinking something made from the souls of the local fauna to feel better (or even live forever, if my headcanon on the final boss has any ground).

Now what does this has to do with the Smoky Progg? Well we already know thanks to Olimar's notes that the Smoky Progg is somehow a spawn from a Mamuta, and even advances the theory that consumption of glowsap by the parent is what causes the malformation; a hypothesis helped by Louie, as the "warmth" from eating one is similar to the feeling of drinking glowsap. Of course it could just be a random, genetic incompatibility between the two, but think about the storytelling, thematic meaning of the most peaceful, plant-loving, helpful creature on the planet being turned into a vengeful death machine by this product, even inheriting the deteriorating properties of it, as an attack and in your body.

tldr: glow Pikmin are FUCKED. they're ghosts/zombies that attract animals to kill them and collect their souls to turn them into mountain dew. said mountain dew either makes you feel great, or destroys you from the inside and curses your offsprings on 99 generations. The Smoky progg may just be one of their many victims; or the most undeniable at least. Anyway thanks a lot for the question!! i always love talking about thought processes behind my art and/or pikmin lore.

Oli trails a feather light finger against the ridges of Martyn's scar. Martyn does his best not to shiver under his languishing touch. As Oli's finger find the edge of Martyn's torn cotton shirt and start playing with the sleeve's shreds, he leans closer to Martyn's ear. The Kestrel common room's couch cushion dips under the shift of weight.

'I know what you are,' Oli whispers, the scruff of his beard scratches faintly against the shell of Martyn's ear.

Martyn leans his head back, his hand carefully snaking up Oli's back. Oli's too close for Martyn to get a good look at his face but he can imagine the dark look in his eyes.

'What is that, ponytail?'

Oli hums, hand reaching under the torn sleeves of Martyn's green coat, fingers closed tight around the muscle.

'You wear it so openly,' Oli whispers, his nose trailing along Martyn's jaw. 'Among pirates, anyone would be ashamed. You flaunt it.'

Martyn angles his head towards Oli, his breath skidding on the other man's open mouth.

'Say it.'

Martyn's hand on Oli back beckons him to nestle closer against Martyn. He feels Oli's breath on his lips when the other whispers hoarsely.

'A traitor.'

Memories float up in Martyn's mind. The shocked look on a man with blue hair and a coral crown as Martyn plunges a sword in between his ribs. A visage he's seen on Scott Denholm in town square, on the other side of a rapier. A ginger woman crawling out of a lake, fuming, as water drips from her hair. He pretends to be drunk around Heron Cleo to stop himself from looking her in the eyes too long. Memories he tries not to think about. A king handing him an axe. A traitor.

Neither Scott nor Cleo seem to remember him. Ren... Some days, he wishes for a Ren that doesn't remember dying alone in a fallen kingdom, and some days, he knows he'd rather surrender himself to the Great Thrasher rather than see the look in the eyes of Ren who doesn't know him.

He's yet to see any Rens.

Oli's thumb brushes on the scar under Martyn's eye.

'You went far there, little star,' he says amusedly. 'What are you thinking about?'

Perhaps it's the scent of secrecy in the air, perhaps it's the fact that no one has touched Martyn's skin in a long time, perhaps it's even the ale going to his head, but Martyn says what he would never have dared saying any other day.

'I wish you were real.'

He thinks about Rendog and how long it's been since Martyn washed the blood away from his hair and carefully, lovingly braided it. He thinks about the number of NPCs wearing the faces of people he's met before and the lack of Rens. He thinks about the last player he ever loved and the possibility that he may have been a C.H.E.S.T. agent, because there is only ever that possibility. He thinks about how lonely he's going to be forever. How he'd let Ren kick him out of the datastream if it meant seeing him again. He thinks about how he wishes Oli was another player, how he wishes he wasn't so alone.

'What?' Oli replies. 'Of course I'm real, silly.'

How he wishes he could believe him.
