Interview s ... Oliverem Valverde z OLIVER & CO. PERFUMES
Já ho používám, protože popisuje přesně to, co dělám, DNA značky Oliver & Co. Je to ten nejpřesnější pojem, co jsem našel.
Jaká je tvá osobně nejoblíbenější vůně?
Nemám žádnou oblíbenou vůni, líbí se mi všechny. Záleží, jakou mám náladu. Hodně nosím svůj vlastní výtvor Ambergreen a zatím poslední parfém Nebula 2.
Taky si zapálím nějaké éterické oleje v aromalampě a občas arménský vonný papír a tyčinky vonného dřeva palo santo na pročištění vzduchu.

Because this interview has got an international context, we put here also the original version in english.
OBJECT: Customers often ask if it’s true that your fragrances are natural. What would be your answer?
OLIVER: They are not 100% natural at all. I use both synthetic and natural raw materials. Although the first impression can be perceived as more natural than synthetic, especially in the collection ILLUSTRATED SERIES.
I love both!
You describe yourself as an avantgard perfumer, do you feel it as the same as “niche”?
Well, I never refer myself as a niche, and I don’t like that my fragrances are considered niche fragrances, even if they are somehow. I mean, I cannot control it. If some people want to catalog me as niche, it's ok. I learnt to don't take it personally :-) it's all about the market.
The term niche is not accurate nowadays, and there is a lot of controversy around it. What was considered niche years ago is not niche anymore, because most of the niche brands are very commercial now, looking for profits rather than thrilling and original perfumes. And personally, I think "niche" is an horrible term to describe something related to art. Perfumery is an art, but it can also be very technical and lack of originality. So, people must pay attention to what they call niche!! it can be very confusing.
My work as a fragrance designer is focus mainly on creativity, risk, passion, freedom and a bit of rebellion. And all these features doesn't fit in the niche term nowadays. Think about it, see the market... 95% of the brands don't take risks, they don't have the freedom to create what they want because they are slave of budgets and profits, and their creativity is forced, not authentic.
I feel so proud and lucky to be one of the brands in that 5%. I'm not fake, and I don't think of money at first. I'm very honest, and I respect the customer. I mean, for example... I don't create fake story tellings... I don't want to seduce the customer with marketing tricks... I want to seduce the customer with a real, honest, pure fragrance, without artificiality or poses. You know..like in ancient times where the real perfumers were not influenced by the market. It was just them and their freedom and desire to create and explore, in order to offer unusual fragrances.
In arts, the term avant-garde art has always been referred to this. I use this term because describes exactly what I do, the DNA of Oliver & Co. It's the most accurate term I've ever found.
What is your personal favorite scent?
I don’t have any favorite scent, I like all of them. It depends on my mood. I wear very much my creation Ambergreen, and the last Nebula 2 in Eau de Parfum.
But I also use other brands Prada, Andy Tauer, Comme des Garçons, a few vintage Guerlain, Etat Libre d'Orange, Annick Goutal (a few years ago, not now anymore)...
Are there any news that we can looking forward to?
I will open the first brick-and-mortar store in Madrid, during November. I'm so excited!
[The interview was held in the beginning of autumn so now the shop is already open and you can visit it in Madrid on Calle Palma 58. Above you can find the video from the opening ceremony.]
What is your relationship with fashion? Do you have a daily uniform?
Not really. I wear like everyday, very casual and urban. I use to wear sneakers, jeans, t-shirts, leisure oversize pants, sometimes a cap...
How does a beautiful day smell to you?
Start with freshly made coffee, toasted bread, fruits, and then I choose a fragrance depends on my mood. I also burn some essential oils in my oil burner, and sometimes armenian paper and palosanto sticks to clean the air.
Thank you for your time, Oliver!
