Nobody necessarily expected Kimi Antonelli to still be in school. Rarely did you see a Formula One driver who was still learning about the basics, such as math and language, while also simultaneously passing world champions in their sport and making a living for themselves. After this information came out, there was obviously… Quite a few jokes.

Kimi had made a whole ordeal of asking George to tutor him in math, and while viewers (and George himself) passed it off as a joke, the truth was Kimi really was struggling in the subject. It didn’t have much substance to him, and lacked sense. Unlike racing, which came so naturally to the rookie.

His teachers were emailing him nonstop, scolding the racer on how unbalanced his school life and work life were. Despite being a kid who raced cars for a living, going at unimaginable speeds, he still walked away with his tail tucked between his legs after being harshly lectured by his elders. After being reprimanded for about the thirtieth time, Kimi was instructed to find himself a tutor.

Online class was easy. Everyone was given their own workload to finish at their own pace, with varying deadlines depending on level of learning. Y/N excelled in this department, finishing most of her work far before the others. She was a straight A student, sitting at the top of her class.

On rare occasions, their class would host little lessons over Zoom. It always reminded her of the quarantine days, but it was nice to see familiar faces nonetheless. Even if most of the time she was sat there quietly, watching everyone else get caught up with the work.

One evening, a surprise guest had popped up. Andrea Kimi Antonelli, whom had never had enough time to make an appearance. Everyone knew of him— Y/N would be stupid if she didn’t. Of course, the reaction to his involvement was rather distracting to the sake of the course, but it was entertaining nonetheless.

He seemed lost the entire time, barely able to answer basic questions about logarithm and pythagorean theorem— Things they had actually learned during the prior years. Being an F1 driver must really be time consuming. Once the call was over, she did what a typical, compassionate person would do…

Every night, right after Kimi had finished up his responsibilities as an F1 driver, he’d stop by the hotel room his team had booked for Y/N, his new tutor. Every time, without fail, he’d find her sitting at the hotel desk, finishing up any new work the moment it came out. It was endearing how dedicated to school she was.

At first, their meetings were strictly professional. She’d teach him the basics, and then he’d be on his way. But by the fourth night of tutoring, the air had become more friendly. He brought in leftover food from the after party, which they shared while watching the newest episode of whatever reality TV show was airing on the hotel TV.

Y/N found herself craving his company by now. She counted down the minutes until she would see Kimi again, eager to spend as much time as possible with the aspiring racer. He was charming, funny, and… Despite his mishaps, intelligent nonetheless.

The week of her traveling came to an end, and the two parted ways at the airport before her flight back home to Italy.

The Walter Effect

So like, 15 years ago, there was a show I loved a lot called Legend of the Seeker. It was fun, sexy, there were cool ships. Shippers were very invested in this show.

Late season 2, we get an episode called "Walter." It's about a character who is typically not the main character. Who isn't at all a part of any of the major ships. It's a departure, a side tour. It's a DELIGHTFUL episode, clever and witty and the show doing something different and original and telling the story from a different angle to see things from a different perspective than the viewer is accustomed to. Legend of the Seeker wasn't high art, but it was written by writers who knew how to play with episodic telvision and "Walter" was a great example. I watched it and thoroughly loved every minute.

But you see, I wasn't that into the shipping. It was fun, but secondary to the show itself. I went into the fandom spaces assuming everyone else loved it as much as me. BOY was I wrong. NONSTOP complaints. WORST EPISODE EVER. WHERE WAS MY FAVORITE CHARACTER. WHERE WAS MY SHIP. I HATE IT WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO THE REAL FANS?

15 years later, I'm watching Severance. It's actually a legit artistic show. On a way higher level than Seeker (technically, not in my heart lol), it is better in every way. It has a devoted fandom with major investment in ships. Two ships in particular.

An episode comes along, "Sweet Vitriol" is what it's called and it is a departure. It is a turn. It spends time with one character and no one from your favorite ships and makes you look at things from a different perspective. It's brilliant. It's filled with lingering silences and long lingering shots and forces you to perceive things differently than you have through the entire series. It's "Walter," but more sophisticated.

And I come online, excited because I see so much that's rich and excellent in this episode, and see a bunch of fucking complaints that it was all about Cobel

and I know you're just mad because you want your Mark/Helly or your Mark/Gemma or whatever

Okay as promised to my instagram followers: My Review Of The Substance 2024 ❇️ Spoilers ahead! Tread carefully!

To qualify myself… I’m a body horror buff. If you ask me to list my favorite movies, 80% of them will be about people experiencing horrific transformations and acts of fantastical violence. Body horror is kind of my whole thing! I love French New Extremity, I’ve seen every Cronenberg, I can only get off if something nauseating happens to somebody’s body. I’m very drawn to body horror as a vessel for visualizing experiences of sexual violence and desire(re: Crash 1996, Titane, Hellraiser) or dysphoria/dysmorphia (also Titane, Being John Malkovich ((I will fight you to death, it IS body horror, die mad)), Tusk) but I think a lot of the genre leans into the ways our lives and bodies are altered by technology and the possible consequences of these extremes (The Fly, Crimes of the Future 2022, Tetsuo the Iron Man, and you guessed it, Titane AGAIN).

Immediately I’m thrilled by how The Substance hits every single one of these genre concepts. It makes the concept feel more suffocating and inescapable than other films that deal singularly with their messaging. Elisabeth is trapped by perceptions of her body on all sides; she takes the drug because she’s been deemed undesirable and devoid of value by the same people who made her famous in the first place. To escape this, she creates (through a disfiguring and grotesque process) a conventionally desirable vessel. The chase to obtain beauty is worth the most violent of undertakings. For her prime self, it generates more self loathing and degradation of her self image. For the secondary self, she continues to experience profound amounts of objectification, still valued only for her desirability, her youth, her performance of childlike naïveté. I saw an excellent review that stated The Substance holds the viewers accountable through the scenes of full nudity and salacious dancing to interpret the way we’ve been trained to default to a sexual view of bodies, physical movement, behavior. We’re made complicit in Elisa/Sue’s dehumanization.

The Substance depicts dysmorphia through body horror in the most articulate way I’ve ever seen. Logically, the viewer knows; This is not how aging works. This woman is not decrepit and wasting away, she’s just middle age. But in the digital age, youth is capital, and youth is sexually desirable and attractive. It may not be the reality of aging, but this is how we’ve been conditioned to feel about the natural course of our lives. The solution is not self acceptance. It is products, procedures, adapting diets rooted in a culture of systemically encouraging disordered eating. Elisabeth’s body becomes worthless, just a source to be used as a fountain of eternal youth. Her pain, deformity, depression, are all irrelevant if it means she can temporarily experience youth. When she tries to stop the procedure, deformed into a funhouse mirror of what an elderly person actually looks like, Sue beats her to death in a blind rage. Her appearance makes her worthless. Her perversely obtained youth is the “only good part” of her. The metaphor frankly could not be clearer and Im not… shocked per se to see people not getting it online, because I know media literacy just isn’t for everybody, but it’s straightforward and concise. That isn’t to say that The Substance isn’t full of other commentary and room for interpretation.

A lot of people in me and D’s screening were laughing during the Mostro section of the film. I spent a decent chunk of it crying! Again, media literacy isn’t for everybody, and I’m the ideal audience for this one with the existing body of knowledge to appreciate what was done here, but we still found it quite distasteful. It’s terrible and grotesque and is the most robust and “bashing you over the head” part of the metaphor. To make it abundantly clear what was being said: The best version of yourself that you could ever be is the person you are, and the person you have always been, exactly where you’re at.

At her most fantastically deformed (HUGE credit to the practical effect work in this movie, which we’ll talk about a little more in a second), she wishes she could just go back to who she was before any of this happened. None of it was worth the terror, and now she’s trapped in a monstrous body, with the same soul and character she had the entire time. It offers the sense that her body is simply something that is now happening to her, rather than just existing, or being contended over, as previously seen. It’s a level of constant infliction she could not have imagined. Loss of control is a large theme of The Substance, the point being clearly that you cannot stop the natural progression of your body’s changing, and intervention only worsens your ability to perceive your body as your own. She dresses up to perform anyways. She tries to curl her few strands of hair. She stabs earrings through her almost inconceivable skull. She just cannot stop trying to be beautiful. It’s all she’s ever been allowed to be. When she goes to perform, she is screamed at in horror by the audience, while calling out “It’s still me! It’s still me!” to no avail. Nobody ever cared who she was or how she felt, only what her body could do for them.

That’s my general plot analysis but for Other Bullshit… I cannot gush enough about the homages paid to Cronenberg in this film, and the follow through on visual language borrowed from Carrie and The Shining. It was viscerally satisfying and just a lot of fun for horror enthusiasts. The director spends so much time being totally original, while still occupying the sandbox Built by other pioneers of the genre, and I absolutely loved seeing a female director in body horror taking up the space to say “You did this, it was incredible, and here is the fresh and enthralling ideas I’m bringing to the table.” It was a body horror movie my beloved Cronenberg could not have made. That’s not to decry his skill and vision, but to praise The Substance for its bold direction and fierce representation of uniquely woman-centered body horror. To hype up my favorite little things, I adored all the flies buzzing around in the beginning of the movie before she undergoes any transformation, I love that the catalyst for her taking the drug is getting into a car crash, I love that all the sets full of evil male directors are stylized after Kubrick’s Shining (because FUCK that guy! I piss on his grave!), I love love love that the beheading at the end is the same as the head pop scene from the beginning of Scanners, and I just cannot get over the Mostro suit. It’s sublime, and the actresses deserve joint best actress Oscar’s for what they accomplished in them. Holy fucking shit! Oh my gd! Wow!!!! It’s the same feeling at the end of The Fly, but with such a fresh take, the same sharp attention and reverence for practical FX work, and drawn out for much longer, with much more modern capability to enjoy the suit for longer, from more angles, with more gritty detail. It’s not trying to emulate or elevate anything. It’s just a perfectly present and challenging addition to the genre at large.

I love that none of the men in this movie were fully formed human beings. They’re the most uncanny and robotic part of the whole film. They question and belittle the personhood of the women they encounter, so the director takes the time to strip them of theirs. It’s really not about the men here. Hell yeah! I’m also glad that there was no sexual assault scene in this film. I don’t mind this content at all and I’ve seen many done in an incredibly visceral way, I’m pro-depiction of everything and anything, but The Substance didn’t need one. The whole thing is an act of sexual violence. It’s stronger that way and was the perfect decision. And since you knew it was coming… The Substance is one of the best , if not the best, addiction allegory I’ve ever seen. The other you, the real you, is just a life source for the impostor, It takes and it takes until there’s nothing left. I felt it strong and will definitely be looking for more readings on the same page so I can expand more at some point, but I found it very clear through the visual language of IV drug use, tooth loss, aging, etc. that there was a strong point on addiction being posited in The Substance.

So that’s my enthusiasts review!!! If i was unclear: Go see this movie. If you’re a sensitive soul or new to/unsure about body horror and specific types of gore, Please check online for trigger warnings, because it is a very graphic and brutal piece of film. I’ve seen pretty much every indie horror released in 2024 and as much as I did enjoy Longlegs and Cuckoo, The Substance blows them both out of the water. We’re in the age of women in horror and I love it!! It’s fucking awesome!!!! Go watch The Substance and then eat a bug. Stay vigilant I love you 🦩

Writing Alt Text Can Enrich Your Life

If you really love an artwork or drawing or cartoon writing an image description of it is an excellent way to connect with it more. You could just say "I love this it's amazing" but if you describe it so that someone else can see exactly why you like it so much?

I don't know you really "see" it then in a way that's deeper.

My grade 5 students make animations and we have a "showcase" where we watch them all together. I write descriptions of each animation and read the description before we watch it. For some reason they LOVE this. Once I skipped reading the description and there was nearly a riot.

The descriptions are very literal. I want the students to know what parts of their idea were clearly communicated in their animations. I didn't expect them to be so popular, though!

For my students and when trying to write alt text online I try to be objective. I think this is important even though it's also important to recognize that it's impossible to be perfectly objective.

All descriptions say something about the perspective of the person writing the text. But, the challenge is to write descriptions that will meet with wide agreement from many different kinds of viewers. So, it's a very useful critical process.

I may ask older students to do this for each other.

I worry that when we say "nothing can be objective" some people take it to mean "it's not worth trying to be objective"

Taking the best objective stance you can is massively useful. It forces you to not just think about what you are thinking and seeing but what other people may think and see. And to look for, in the intersection of all of those perspectives, what is really *there.*

It's because nothing can ever be perfectly objective that's it's all the more important to make this effort.

The other thing I worry about is that my attention and excitement for crafting "The Best Possible Image Description" may intimidate people from just slapping on some alt text ... it's not that big of a deal. It's important that you do it more than doing it perfectly. And often I'm tired and just write something very basic. Because, otherwise the post is a mess and would make no sense. You don't want that do you?

I'm just saying, don't get uptight and intimidated and NOT do the alt text at all.

IDK it's just really neat to me that something that started out seeming like a chore I had to do for other people ended up benefiting *me* so much. Even informing the rest of my work.

I think things work like this more often than we think.

Train Puzzle Devlog 2025-03-08

Since the last update, work has slowly been proceeding to bring to perfection the crudely conceived idea of a transmission that would not only supply--ok enough turbo-encabulator bs. Let's get to the changes.

This video shows a few new features. Watch with headphones.

@msasterisk re-did car physics. Previously cars rode on single points, and so they tended to ride fairly roughly. On the very curved tracks in some levels, or in places where the tracks didn't line up exactly, cars would jerk around and sometimes even break their couplers. Now the motion is significantly smoother.

Fun fact: According to MsAsterisk, implementing it this way was actually easier than using a single point.

This change also brings with it two other improvements.

Switch stands will no longer throw if a car is on top of it. Currently only the end of the points (where the lever is) is tracked, but this will eventually be made less forgiving, which will make it harder to perform 'Flying Switch'/'Dutch Drop' and car kicking maneuvers. Not impossible, but enough that it should be able to be constrained in level design. This does mean we have to go through and alter some siding capacities to account for the less forgiving switches.

Sounds! Since each car now has two trucks, and each truck can have multiple axles, cars will make clickity-clack sounds as they run over switches. We considered making them clack regularly (with the rail joints), but since we are hearing the entire screen and not just a single point of view, the constant clacking got confusing. This way the clacking is restricted to when the cars actually cross a border that is meaningful to gameplay, which makes it an auditory aid.

In addition, the game's sound effects are now spatial! The effect is fairly subtle, but it's there. If you didn't already notice it, go rewatch the video above. Sound effects on the left side of the screen will sound like they're to the viewer's left, etc.

Cars and locomotives now also make a low rumbling and clanking noise when in motion.

These changes make the game sound more dynamic and real.

In the video above, you can see the camera moving. The behavior shown in the video didn't really work that great since the camera would move when the mouse was near the screen border... but there's u.i. elements there, and it would even do so when tabbed away.

However, while I sit here writing this post, MsAsterisk remains hard at work, and now there's already a fix for this--the camera now moves with the arrow keys and with right click dragging. To-Do: add borders to the camera's motion, and zooming in and out.

Here, i've reduced the screen width (more than you'd ever do in normal play) to demonstrate the extreme case. The camera can move, and the sound effects also change their position relative to the camera as you do so (which is why I move the camera back and forth several times).

In the second video you can also see the new "Turnout Hell" level I put together, based on a layout I found online called the "Short Long Way Around," a dense 'shelf switcher'. Can you find the runaround loop in that mess?

We also have a new menu, freeing up some screen space. Included is the settings menu (TBD), the level reset button, and the level select button.

We have pretty big goals for the next stable main version, and they'll take a while to complete, and it'll be even longer before the actual game can be released.

Also, at some point I'm gonna need to start pulling my weight around here and work on more art assets, including changes to existing cars and new scenery structures. I've been using a lot of 'we' in this post, but I can't stress enough that nearly all of the work showcased here, from the sound design to the programming, was done by the excellent MsAsterisk.

It's not a stupid question at all.

Of course no one knows for sure, we can only theorize. However, there are a few excellent reasons that immediately pop into my head for why DD doesn't linger and hobnob with others at these events.

He wants to avoid being a disruption

Let's face it, wherever DD goes the cameras and fans follow, and his mere presence can be a huge disruption to any proceeding. DD always tries to stay in the shadows so as not to steal other people's fire. Not just because he's humble and respectful - which he definitely is - but also to avoid anti attacks about him 'taking up too much space'.

A perfect example of this happened last night at the event. Eric Wang - his costar from Hidden Blade - was onstage speaking, and DD's face appeared on the screen briefly and the fans screamed really loudly, interrupting his speech. He was startled and looked around in confusion trying to figure out what had set everyone screaming.

This is the sort of thing both GG and DD no doubt want to avoid. They wouldn't want to be the reason other people's moments in the spotlight get derailed. Eric Wang is a friend and colleague, onstage in his own special moment. DD wouldn't want this.

And this isn't just an issue with the event itself, but also all the discussion and buzz that their appearance generates online.

Yes, of course it's important for them to be talked about a lot and viewed as popular and in demand, but that can often tip over into being seen to take up too much space - too many 'public resources' - which can lead to public criticism and viewer fatigue. This goes along with my first point - he and his team will want to do everything they can to minimize the risk associated with unscripted moments in the spotlight. Of all the reasons, I think this is actually the number one reason they lay low at events.

Whenever a star is out in front of people in a live public setting, there is tremendous opportunity for them to become the subject of embarrassing, hateful or even career-jeopardizing anti attacks, gossip and hotsearches. Especially at an event where other stars are present. Every move they make, every choice about where to look or how to stand, every facial expression, becomes an opportunity for misinterpretation or incitement of fan wars.

This is likely also why GG and DD are never in the same room when accepting awards at these things. When one is onstage accepting an award, the other is backstage. This ensures that there can be no camera cut to the other one, which would be massively disruptive (as with point 1) and potentially inflame fan wars.

And it's not just onstage moments that are a problem; all time spent in the room can be a minefield. For example, any time one star is seated next to another star every micro-expression, every slight move or action is analyzed and conclusions drawn about how the two feel about each other. This can lead to harmful rumors ranging from dating rumors to rumors they hate each other - all of which can lead to negative gossip and fan wars.

If a star is really friendly with another star and one of them ends up embroiled in scandal, that can lead to the other one being dragged into the same scandal just by association. DD especially is constantly the target of hate attacks. It wouldn't do for him to be seen getting too cozy with the next star on the chopping block. Antis would have a field day making it seem like DD was part of the scandal somehow.

Both GG and DD are at the level where frankly they don't need this kind of exposure anymore. They don't need the risk, and they don't need the 'rewards'. They simply don't need to be seen quite as much as some of the newer up-and-coming stars do. There comes a point where the risk/reward ratio shifts to where it's safer for their careers to not be so constantly in the spotlight.

He is at work

I know these kinds of events can be a lot of fun for fans and feel like a big exciting party, but ultimately for the star, they are at work. It's work. Because of the issues I pointed out above - along with so many others, no doubt - being put in the spotlight like that has to be incredibly high pressure and high stress.

These are tightly managed events, and a lot goes on behind the scenes to ensure that things in front of the camera go smoothly. They have to be at certain locations at certain times (for example, they have to be at the end of the red carpet when it's their turn to walk, they have to be in their seat when their award is announced), and they have to be looking their best and on their best behavior.

They have to look beautiful but not too flashy. They have to look relaxed even if they don't feel relaxed. Their facial expressions and behavior have to be appropriate. They're appearing, after all, in front of millions and millions of people - appearances which are being recorded, photographed and livestreamed from every angle.

Behind the scenes there are people managing their makeup and wardrobe, there are often interviews and photos with media, there are often brand-related bits that need to be captured on film.

It might seem glamorous to get all dressed up and go to a party and get an award, but for the top stars it's a high stakes public appearance where every moment is closely managed and timed up to the minute - even second.

Things are simultaneously fast-paced and incredibly dull. Top stars like GG and DD are usually the last to appear on the red carpet or onstage, so there would be a lot of waiting around in unfamiliar spaces surrounded with work colleagues and management.

With events like this the stars are often starving as well, as they don't have time to eat or don't want to risk ruining their outfit or having digestive issues while in the spotlight.

I'm sure being a surgeon or a detective also seems exciting to those outside the profession, but really it's always work, and these are some of the most high-pressure, high-stress, high-stakes jobs.

A public appearance like this is ultimately a promotional activity, not a party, celebration or social occasion.

He's a very busy guy

This is another huge reason GG and DD often sweep into an event and leave the first instant they're able to. Because they have incredibly packed schedules and many conflicting demands on their time. They simply don't have time to dicker around at an event for any longer than necessary.

They've left events like this to go straight to a filming set to get back in costume and back to work. It's just how things go when you're that high profile and in high demand.

It's too public

GG and DD have private lives, even just in WeChat groups, etc. where they can socialize with friends and colleagues out of the public eye. I doubt they get excited about being under the scrutiny of so many people at events like this.

This is just the norm

I feel the need to add that DD's behavior isn't unusual at all. I think sometimes fans get the impression that GG and DD make themselves unusually scarce, but it's just not true. All the top stars tend to vacate their seats the moment they have a chance.

Just look at this footage from last night when DD was accepting his award. Look at all the empty seats behind him as he's walking to the stage - all along the entire length of the stagefront where the top stars are always placed. Soon DD's seat will also be empty.

Anyway, like I said, no one knows for sure. It's not something he or his team is ever likely to speak about publicly. But just looking at the situation some features do stand out.

You sigh, both in relief and exhaustion as you glance a little off to your side to see the disfigured face of the murderer of your friends, unresponsive and not breathing.

Slowly sitting up, you stare the demon that had been possessing the murderer in the face, his hand extended towards you with a grin of satisfaction and anticipation. “For thee bihofþe bæ ablæ bihofþe defeaÞ mīn vessel meanſ thee art worthī bihofþe becomæ mīn.”

You stare blankly at the demon speaking in a language you can’t understand, yet somehow you understand clearly what he is speaking. ‘For you to be able to defeat my vessel means you are worthy to become mine.’. Your gaze slowly trails to his outstretched hand and a compelling force for you to take it overwhelms you.

You look back up to the demon, your eyes unfocused and dull as if you have nothing else to live for. Before your decision can be documented, the end credits roll, leaving the ending open to the interpretation of the viewers as well as a sequel to showcase your decision.

“God, that was great,” Kasumi, your good friend and manager compliments as she leans back on the sofa and places her arm over her eyes to re-adjust from watching the movie for two whole hours. “When your and Masaki’s characters thought it was over but the movie still had half an hour left was actually a good plot twist.”

“Well, Director Ukai Senior is well-known for plot twists like that.” You comment as you stand up to turn the lights back on. “You said the critics were impressed by this movie?”

“Yeah, the movie critics were absolutely STUNNED by your acting and storyline, it’s a box office hit.” Kasumi answers as she groans from the lights turning on, readjusting her vision to the new lighting. ��Director Ukai Senior wants to make a sequel, it’s going to be tough to live up to people’s expectations.”

“No, no, Kasumi. Not the professional movie critics.” You clarify as you head back to the sofa. “The online critics.”

“Oh, you mean the horror junkies making movie reviews on the internet? Loved it. Said it’s a gem in the midst of the mediocre horror movies these days.”

Your lips tug into a smile of satisfaction, when Kasumi gave you the job, you were a bit skeptical and weren’t as enthusiastic as you have a reputation to uphold as being the ‘Queen of Modern Horror’. You’re glad you trusted your gut and did the job anyway. Ukai Ikkei was a bit tough to work with since he’s strict and a bit of a perfectionist, but he seemed to have favoured you and your experience as he listened to any input you gave to the script to make it less cheesy and better.

“I’ve got to give it to Yamasaki, most script writers take offense when the actors make suggestions to the storyline to make it better but she actually took time to consider and stuff. She’ll make it far in the script writing industry.” You comment as you remind yourself of the meek girl who wrote the fantastic movie script.

“Oh yeah! The online critics also complimented her again and again for her unique storyline. They say it’s a cliche that’s made fresh.” Kasumi says with a grin. “I think she’s starting the sequel for the movie as we speak.”

“Excellent, I hope to work with her again soon.” You say as you stretch your long legs on the sofa. “What else has the internet been saying?”

“Um… most are complimenting the movie… but I guess some are kind of comparing to Ukai Junior’s new movie.” Kasumi answers, thinking back to what she’s read. “The one starring Suna Rintarou.”

“Oh, you mean the thriller-gore fiasco of a movie, ‘The Crypts’? That’s also a great movie, the genius horror director genes run in the Ukai family.” You say with a nod of approval. “Suna’s acting is also great in the movie, his role as the killer in the movie looked so realistic even I was spooked.”

“You know, you and Suna are dubbed the ‘King and Queen of Modern Horror’, it’s weird that you’ve never acted in a movie together.” Kasumi comments absentmindedly as she opens her phone to look at the incoming reviews. “I think it would be one of the best movies of the generation if you two starred in the movie together.”

“I was wondering that as well, actually. I’d love for an opportunity to act with him, like I don’t even care if I end up covering my face for the role of the antagonist, I just want to star in a movie with him.”

“I’ll try to find a role for you that also stars him. I think it’d be a good opportunity for you both.” Kasumi says with a grin.

“I will literally bow at your feet if you ever manage to do that.” You say with a laugh. “I know damn well that movie will be the talk of all media if we star in the same movie.”

“Count on me, girlie. I’ve got your back.”

That was what you said to Kasumi about three months ago, thinking that the movie you’d star in with Suna Rintarou was going to be a horror movie, as you expected. But to your horror and confusion, the script in your hand is the farthest thing from a horror movie script.

“‘Sumi… when I said I want to star in a movie with Suna Rintarou, I didn’t mean a romance drama. And a series at that!” You mutter as you re-read the script your friend handed to you.

Ro Ramdin, my gods, most of her videos are not what i would call video essays, but she tows the line. Emotional, funny, to the point, amazingly shot, and compassionate to the bone.

i probably have more but here's my point, branch out, dont put non-horror video essays down. we get it, you watch gore on liveleak and draw ur edgy fursona with scars all over them. 1: First Post

My first post was on July 30th, 2011. It was a Spy Myung Wol kdrama post featuring Eric Mun. Neither fascination ended well. Somehow negging Lee Min Ho was involved???

2: Why I Joined Tumblr

I started a Wordpress blog about K-drama style, Suit Distraction, and my second post on July 31st was a link to one of those posts. This blog only spanned 2011, but I ran a Tumblr sideblog suitdistracted (now @libraryofstyle ) from about 2011-2015. It was my most successful online venture by far!

Tumblr itself stuck because I have been able to follow my interests more fluidly and stick with my mutuals, some from other platforms of the past.

3: Then vs. Now

In 2011 I was stuck in not-for-me Oklahoma, watching Korean dramas partly as a way to explore more of the world. I was between jobs, (some hours at my brother's then-job) working on my career as a writer with a lot of moral support but little visible success. It had been 4 years since I went to a big-deal writing workshop, and I'd published a few poems but almost by accident.

Now, I live in home-to-me Western Mass., work in a bookstore while still trying to start a writing career, but in the meantime got a degree at a Historically Women's College, and had a lot of eye-openings.

I'm still a follower of Jesus's teachings, but find it really easy to see how little those have to do with the Evangelical Right I was raised in. I thought a lot of this was obvious, but some of the questioners I knew then that have gotten the impression that God is really invested in America as his nation???**

I also have figured out I'm not just a Third-Culture-Kid or Geeky Artist, I am autistic. So. That makes sense.

4: Fandom Drift?

I watched a LOT of dramas in a season of my life when I was working on yarn for an Etsy shop of handspun, and filling my days around writing with house-keeping and projects.

It's not that I don't appreciate dramas but that I kind of caught up to being a discerning viewer around the same time access got a little trickier and my needs for media changed. I stream Critical Role while doing chores, because it's less visual. I don't sit at my spinning wheel for hours the last several years.

But I still thing Healer is the best thing I've ever seen in TV for *me personally*. I still think Gong Yoo is a wicked hottie. And I love that connecting with people about k-drama at a time when it was still a fresh wave in the West meant getting to be part of an upcoming fan culture in a way I hadn't before!

5: Side-blog/Name Confessional

I originated this blog with this username, which is kind of wild to me. I mean, 14 years ago I was 25, and while it feels quite some time ago it also feels like a fresh new handle. I like it, and I have used it to try and reset my LJ and set up a Dreamwidth. (Neither initiative stuck.)

I have, other than "suitdistracted" started 5 sideblogs. I should delete a few. One was from my coaching phase. (I am grateful for everything I got from the coaching training, including the impetus to go to college, but I also have been deconstructing THAT while listening to Maintenance Phase, an excellent podcast).

One was very recent, to anonymously post stuff about losing my parents. I also didn't post a ton there but it was a pressure valve for some hard moments in a weird phase of grief.

The fanfic one and the fiber arts one are pretty openly crossposted, haha. I stopped siloing the fiber arts one for the most part.

6: What's Next?

I wish I had the guts/energy to do something really wild and multimedium after watching Strange Aeons videos about Tumblr performance blogs but I have tried to at least post a bit more about my fandom takes.

I was so anxious early in my social media life that I feel like I have to be super-intentional about curating and this is the easiest place ot resist that. I like that this is accidentally totally not part of the ecosystem of "me as writer" that the other accounts are.
