Voiceplay Visuals: We Don't Talk About Bruno

("You're gonna show/talk about That Moment, right?" Yes of course I will be showing/talking about That Moment; who do you take me for? 😝)

This video was uploaded on the 26th of February, 2022, it features Ashley Diane (in her second full-length collaboration with Voiceplay), and it is of course a cover of the ridiculously-popular song We Don't Talk About Bruno, from the very-popular Disney movie Encanto (which I have seen 2 or 3 times, including in cinemas, but I'm also very familiar with the movie soundtrack, because it's amazing). To cover such a popular song (let alone acapella-style) can be a challenging task, because obviously there'll be a lot of people who'll already know the original song quite well and who will be prepared to make comparisons, but this is Voiceplay we're talking about! They're not called "the theatre kids of acapella" for nothing, and Disney covers is one of the things they do best (and the video currently sits at a very impressive 5.6 million views on Youtube! (EDIT: as of the 13th of March, it's now 5.7 million!))

So of course I have a lot to talk about with this one, so let's get into it!

Layne was in charge of the video, arrangement, and direction for this one, and he and Tony worked together on set design and costuming. Needless to say, Layne and Tony did an amazing job (and yes, this was of course filmed at Pattycake Productions Studio, which Layne and Tony own and run together)

As for the costuming/characters: Cesar is playing Felix (is it perfect casting, or is Cesar just amazing at slipping into basically any role he's given? You decide), Ashley plays triple roles of Pepa, Isabela, and Mirabel, Eli is maybe Agustin (Agustin doesn't have a lead singing part in the song but the outfit is close enough), Layne is Dolores, and Geoff is either Camilo, Bruno, or both (Camilo pretending to be Bruno perhaps, like in the original scene in the movie?)

If we don't count Jingle Bell Rock (where Eli was wearing glasses while dressed as "Sandy Claws", then I'm fairly certain this is the last/most recent time that Eli has actually worn glasses for a Voiceplay video? And perhaps the only time he's worn them since growing out his facial hair.

Also I'm pretty sure I heard from someone that Geoff's "ruana" (google it) is in fact just a regular blanket/piece of fabric draped (possibly secured/pinned) over his shoulders (it's kind of a Look though ngl)

Not even 30 seconds in and I already stumbled upon a way-funnier-than-expected screencap 🤣

Basically, Cesar 100% understood the assignment as Felix, totally hammed it up, and it's highly entertaining 😁

I know I'm not meant to be talking about vocals in these posts (per my own rules), but I have to give a big shoutout to Layne, who freaking killed it with Dolores's solo part, and it's always so lovely to hear him actually getting a vocal part in a song, as amazing as he is at vocal percussion 💜

Cesar continuing to do The Most (affectionate), and also it's kinda sweet how Geoff is looking at Layne here imo <3 (and also it kinda fits with how the characters they're playing, Camilo (probably) and Dolores are siblings!)

(If you're rewatching a Voiceplay video, try shifting your focus to someone other than whoever you typically focus on for a certain part of the song! It will probably be worth it!)

Trust Geoff to get a dark/spooky section of the song! Voiceplay is nothing if not consistent 😝 (well, sometimes, in regards to some things 😂)

Yep, that still continues to be up there as one of the most bonkers-ridiculous moments in a Voiceplay video ever. 🤣 (Also if it weren't hilarious enough, check out Ashley's Offended(tm) face in the first and second pictures above, and Layne's Extremely Concerned face in the second picture! ("uhh, Geoff. something you wanna tell me, dude?"))

I'm a little fuzzy on specifics, but apparently the idea for this moment came about when Voiceplay was acquiring clothing for everyone, and Ashley's outfit arrived in two different sizes (just in case one might fit better than the other). Turns out one of the copies of the outfit was a perfect fit for Geoff, and one thing led to another, and we ended up with Aspiring Disney Princess Geoff that you see in the images above 😄😋)

(When I said "don't just get you a man who can do both, get yourself a man that can do everything" back in my Frozen 2 Medley post, I meant it!!!)

(Oh and this section really was slowed down in post-production in order to make the petals (and hair flips!) look nice, and so both Ashley and Geoff were having to sing/lip-sync to sped up versions of their vocal lines!)

Ashley and Cesar were both great in this video, really seemed to play off each other quite a bit!

Man, what a video. Amazing to watch, and also a really great to watch other people react to, for multiple reasons! 😁

There's not much for me to say that I haven't already said about Voiceplay before, but I will say that if you liked this one, go watch their Mini for Surface Pressure if you haven't already! It was filmed during the same shoot as this one (same set, same clothes), and uploaded a few days prior. It's only a short video, sure, but it's still very much worth a watch.

Bruno - Reactor!Lix

with his colorful personality and loudness that covers both him and Burt, the two reactor boys make for an explosive team. always wearing a bright smile and always keeping his cat Pepa by his side, he always makes sure everything explosives-wise is completely covered.

has the most positive, upbeat, bright personality you could ever imagine

talks so much. tho it normally balances out Burt's general silence, so all good.

his artistic thing is firework making, but knows a lot ab making explosives, this man can rig anything to explode

sadly once got into some trouble after he accidentally hurt someone with said fireworks and ended up in prison, but he feels extremely remorseful about the whole thing and thought of his stay in the Invincible II as a way to redeem himself

unfortunately for him, the work Engineer wanted him to do was, quite frankly, putting the lives of all the colonists in danger (cause seriously how many self-destruct protocols did that ship have???) so at first he refused, but later realized that if he didnt do it Engie would just try do it himself and thought it would be better for someone with knowledge of what they are actually doing to rig all the explosives instead

so while he gets on perfectly with Burt, his relationship with Engie is a bit... well... its mostly Bruno being concerned about everything the other does

also he's still on a weird technical house arrest situation, so he has to wear an ankle bracelet °-°

his cat companion is a tiny fluffy kitten named Pepa! pepas are popular cookies in my home country, although im pretty sure you english speakers call them "thumbprint cookies"

i struggled a bit in making the character fit with the whole reactor area, but after looking more closely at Burt, i realized the key was just so. many. more. BELTS.

also, i was originally just thinking of making cryo!lix, but i got the inspo to make the other two after finding the inspo picture for Bruno's earrings! so for that, i wanted to add those to the character, dont question why he has earrings and that they would probably be way too heavy to wear XD

finally, his weapon is a crossbow, but he never uses arrows, instead he uses fireworks! im not even gonna lie the idea of this is straight out of minecraft. but it does fit, right?

it was so refreshing to work on such a happy character, and now the next and last space!lix remains!

Hello, Anon :D I’m going with Luisa & Bruno, who I am. Extremely Normal About. This... got a bit long XD

Okay technically I don't think Bruno and Luisa actually interact in canon BUT they're super close trust me trust me

Starting with how I characterize Luisa, because there’s some extrapolation going on here:

I think the big conflict of Luisa's character (in tandem with straight up overwork) is that she wants to be tender and vulnerable, but feels that being so would make her a burden. Other people have problems? That's part of life. They can ask for help, she'll fix it. But if she asks for help herself, it means she's a failure. It’s right there in the opening lines of Surface Pressure: she has no room for fear, vulnerability, or weakness/inability to do everything.

Also in Surface Pressure, between the Titanic and the line of doors, Luisa fixes Mirabel's glasses. It's a small gesture, but I think it says a lot about who she is. This isn't something that is any easier for her to do than it is for Mirabel. Mirabel’s perfectly capable. Luisa doesn't need to do anything. And in the action of the song, there is a lot going on that only Luisa can handle, but she still pauses for a moment for this.

In part, it could read that she fixes every problem she encounters, no matter how small, but that doesn't really cover the nuances going on. It's a very gentle gesture, even parental, and coming from a person who doesn't wear glasses herself. I think this is habit from when Mirabel was very young—young enough that she was too uncoordinated to fix her glasses without smudging them—which Luisa has kept up all these years later. Which also means that Luisa started doing this when she was young herself. That's not something she was likely ever asked or expected to do, she just did/does it because she loves her sister, who will never fully outgrow Luisa's memory of her. That's the way she loves.

(Keep that last bit in mind, I swear this post is about Bruno & Luisa)

Between this and she tells Mirabel that she (over)heard the adults talking about Bruno having a vision about the magic before he left, Luisa seems to pay attention to the people around her. In that conversation, she also doesn't speak badly of Bruno. The vision was terrible, his room is dangerous, but nothing about Bruno himself. And she knows nothing about his vision, so if she thinks it's terrible, that's a value judgment she heard from one of the adults. Considering what Alma says right before the collapse, I suspect Luisa heard someone (probably Alma) telling the other adults that, whatever Bruno saw, he abandoned them and left them to deal with it, without so much as a warning. “Bruno doesn’t care about this family.”

But she doesn't say any of that to Mirabel. And it would be relevant to whatever’s wrong with the magic. Given that Luisa is telling Mirabel to investigate Bruno’s tower, it’s not a matter of protecting Mirabel from dangerous information. I think Luisa just doesn’t believe it. Which, if my inferences about what she overheard are correct, that means Luisa believes in Bruno’s love for the family more than she believes Abuela, even after Bruno’s been gone for ten years. That trust doesn’t come from nothing.

(I don't necessarily keep that detail true in my fics, e.g. in Atlts Alma didn't tell anybody that she asked Bruno for a vision, so no one else knew. Unless Luisa actually overheard Alma talking to Pedro, but was avoiding sharing that bit of gossip, which is in line with her character. Fic-canon or not, it is always part of how I characterize Luisa, though.)

So, what we have (by my consideration, at least) a solid canon basis for:

Luisa puts on a tough facade, but wants to be vulnerable

Luisa shows her love through gentle gestures

Luisa doesn’t completely stop thinking of her loved ones as the way they used to be

Luisa is observant

Luisa believes that Bruno loves/loved the family

Enter Bruno.

Pre-walls, I like the idea that he was close with all the kids. (Nothing Jared Bush says on Twitter can stop me.) The Madrigals are a busy family, and Bruno wasn’t. I imagine that he wasn’t fielding a lot of vision requests those last few years, or going out for... anything else, if he could help it, given the combination of his poor reputation and his anxiety. And the more he withdrew socially, I think, the more the other adults would encourage him spending time with the kids. He was essentially a stay at home parent.

After the walls? Bruno’s a gentle, goofy guy. And my Bruno, at least, doesn’t stand in the present so much as straddle the past and the future. I think in the movie, when he looks at Mirabel, he sees both who she is now and remembers the little kid she once was. (Pretending to be Hernando and Jorge did work to distract her from the reality of his situation, but also made it worse. I think it would have worked better on Antonio, but Bruno wasn’t quite calibrated to interacting with a teen.) We don’t see him really interact with the other kids he knew before, but I imagine it would be the same for them.

So, the specific Luisa & Bruno dynamic that I write:

Luisa is tender but feels like she can’t let herself be because she needs to be strong and invulnerable for the family. But the facade doesn’t work on Bruno, because he looks at her and thinks “that’s my sweet Luisita” and is just as goofy and sweet to her as he’s always been. Even six foot something and jacked, she will never fully outgrow Bruno’s memory of her.

(Remember I said to keep that bit in mind? It’s one aspect in which Bruno and Luisa love in the same way.)

They also both absolutely won’t stand up for themselves, but I think they’ll throw down for their loved ones, hence my Luisa throwing Ricardo Espitia in the river that one time. They’re good for each other.

Special award for @saltiestcoconut because they humor me so much 🥺🥺🥺🥺

How I feel about this character: Yo, he's perfect. 🥺🥺🥺 I love him so much—his character design itself makes me weep because boy, do I love star motifs and his got the character 'hoshi' in his name. 😭 That's just so endearing and sweet, and his Stardust Dragon is just perfect for him. They were made for each other, omgs.

But to be completely honest, I struggle to write this guy. He gives so much but also so little at the same time, and there's just so much about him to fill out because he's quiet and awkward and cool. I really would love to hear about how I write Yūsei, but feedback is hard to get because I don't draw a lot of readers, lmao. I just hope I don't make him boring, even though post-series, I imagine him living a rather peaceful and quiet life. The guy is everything I'm not—STEM, talented, reserved—and not even my love for him can help me as much as I like. QwQ. He's not the bestest written Yūtag, but despite that, he is still my favoritest Yūtag. I think Yūsei is pretty unique in that he's a middle child, lmao. It makes him a little relatable when many people say he's not because he's so perfect. (It's fine, he can be perfect; have you not seen his brothers??)

Anyway, in short, I love Fudō Yūsei with all of my heart, and he's honestly the first reason I dove so hard into YGO. 5D's was the first of the series I watched I think, which was good because otherwise, I would be into Zexal, and it would've all over for you guys. xD /J

My unpopular opinion about this character: FUDŌ YŪSEI FUCKS.

I know people tend to headcanon Yūsei ace, and while being ace makes him interesting, sure, being horny makes him hilarious. At least to me, and so, when I write Yūsei, he's the kind of guy who rarely say no to sex and is pretty straightforward about it. ("May we have the sex please?") I'm not going to lie: making Yūsei horny actually helped me write him more comfortably because he's so fun to write like that, lmao. He is actually the active cause of chaos sometimes instead of always being the straight man. He annoys and exasperates Jack and Crow at times. There is other things in his life that interests him outside of runners and engineering. His perfectness breaks for a second because his desires have driven him to embarrassing actions, and more moments like that start breaking through. It helped me develop him more as well, lol, so nowadays, he comes off more like a cool coworker I got to know better through his wild and stupid stories, half of which are his fault, but also by talking about his family. What a guy.✨

One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon: That Yūsei himself says he fu—

some closing thoughts after this 2-months long adventure revisiting Yugioh 5D's..

I feel like I finally could enjoy this show as it's supposed to be enjoyed and it probably has to do with the fact that I'm more mature now (also finally able to get the full hd experience 🤣) and there's a fun thing about having a dogshit working memory: to be able to experience this show almost as if it was the first time again 😊 I can't recall when was the last time I watched it but it was probably close to 8-10 years ago 🤣

some loathed characters became favorites - I was avoiding this show like the plague because Jack Atlas was just......... so bad for past me 🤣🤣🤣 - well it turns out his peacock personality and overpowering sex appeal worked on me 🙄 Thanks I hate it 🤣💜

some characters I paid no attention before became favorites, too: Rex Godwin have my whole heart and I am so sad he died.. man why do my favorites always die huh huh???? 😭 get me out of here with this shit......... also, Rua (Lua) is the sweetest little guy and I was so damn excited for him because he's just so goddamn cool?!??1 Wtf!! Also most the "villains" since I'm built different and villains are my weak spot 🤣

have to confess I did not remember him much so I kind of went on blind and, fuck me, he became one of my favs and do I even risk to say he IS my favorite character in this show?!!?? I could talk about this and about him for days but the long story short is that he checked all the boxes for me and pressed all the right buttons too and then he died too because of fucking course he died and I cried like fuck my life dude. That was so devastating... definitely want to give this show another go soon just so I can watch Bruno again. We have never had another character as cool and interesting as him in the franchise

as is tradition in YGOs, 5Ds started getting much better by the end, but it was very solid all over (except that arc full of fillers, it was annoying as hell because the episodes were not good), Crash Town was fun, and the last two arcs (WRGP and Ark Cradle) were very good

overall.. I think I'd bump 5Ds all the way up, becoming my second favorite YGO (guess it was in 4th place before?), because Zexal takes the podium FOR NOW, we'll see when I rewatch it and just how that will go XD

Hazbin Hotel x Helluva Boss Theory: Why The Elevator Doesn't Go To The 8th & 9th Rings

we know that there are the Seven Rings, the Pride Ring, Wrath Ring, Lust Ring, Envy Ring, Sloth Ring, Greed Ring and Gluttony Ring...

and then there is the 8th and 9th rings, The Melancholy Ring and The Vanity Ring...maybe it be like Encanto, "we don't talk about bruno"...(by the way I do love that movie) but instead of "Bruno"...it's "we don't talk about Melancholy & Vanity."   Lucifer rules the Pride Ring, Sathanas rules the Wrath Ring, Asmodeus rules the Lust Ring, Leviathan rules the Envy Ring, Beelzebub rules the Gluttony Ring, Belphegor rules the Sloth ring and Mammon rules the Greed ring...

but the queston is, who are the two who would be ruling the Melancholy Ring & Vanity Ring...?

also I want to say this, that if Asmodeus (not talking about the one from the show who goes by the nickname Ozzie.) if he is said to have been like a cambian born from a Succubus and King David.... wouldn't that make Asmodeus my Grunkle...?  should I be calling him "Grunkle Ozzie" XD

and wouldn't that mean that he is like the big brother of King Solomon...?, which I don't think it's really a bad thing I'm a descendant of Solomon, I mean I know that I'm from the line that can't take that throne, and I'm also a descendant of his son Rehoboam.

but not being able to to take that throne, is more of a blessing rather than a curse.

so play the song "The Joke Is On You" by Niki Watkins.  yeah I'm weird and a Earth Angel who thinks it's a blessing to be a descendant of that line. plus there is that whole having ethereal things that go into "flame mode" when I get really mad, and the whole habit of them hugging around me whenever I'm upset or nervous.

which of course I got that info from asking about it by using my pendulum, and I'm still making sure not to use the pendulum too much. I know half of the time my pendulum can pull pranks on me or give me like half-truths... I'm not really sure about the whole having a ethereal lion tail and deer antlers is true or not, I mean maybe those two were pranks...? but I guess having ethereal wings, lion tail and deer antlers, could be a trait that some Earth Angels have.

plus it might be possible I don't have some form of ethereal flowers in my hair, maybe I can try using my pendulum and try to ask one of the Archeia about it. I mean I could try, but it is possible a prank answer can end up replying instead....so maybe I will wait a while to do that... plus for all I know, my soul name being "Small Lilith" could be a prank, I guess I can try to ask one of the Archeia about that as well.

anyway back to the whole 8th and 9th rings, in theory those two rings could have their own rulers but they aren't really famous or popular, because they aren't very well known, not even by those who are Hellborns who live in the other rings. even if Sinners can't really go to the other rings and have to stay in the Pride Ring, in theory they could probably find a loophole that can let them go to Melancholy Ring and Vanity Ring.

so the only rings they would be able to go to and live in, would be Pride, Melancholy and Vanity...

I guess Astaroth would be the Duke from the Melancholy Ring, but it could turn out that they aren't the top ruler of the Melancholy Ring. it might be possible that Melancholy is run by Duke Astaroth, while Vanity is ruled by a President.

the current President of the Vanity Ring, could be Haagenti. it could turn out the roles of being the ones who run both the Melancholy and Vanity Rings are temporary, like it turning out that both Astaroth and Haagenti could be substitute until the true embodiment of Vanity and Melancholy appear and become the Kings of those rings....or Queens.

but when the true embodiment of Vanity appear, they would possibly end up co-ruling the Vanity Ring with a President.

of course this would possibly stay in the Fanon Timeline of Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss, meaning the Melancholy Ring and Vanity Ring would just be in the Fanon.

and the reasons why the elevator doesn't go to the Melancholy and Vanity Rings, is because it can't....like it use to, but it doesn't anymore. if some do want to go to one of those two rings, they would have to use the other ways to get there.

for all we know, those two rings could be under quarantine because both rings have fairies, pixies and unicorns in them... and well in a Fanon Timeline, it could turn out that those rings were taken back by the Feminine Angel Princesses that had ruled them before those Fallen Princes took over the rings when they fell and changing them from what they were once were. yeah one of my theories is that the rings use to be a type of Matriarchy, because ya know "Earth-Feminine" and "Heaven-Masculine"..... but when Lucifer and the others fell, they had taken those rings over and had corrupted them.

for all we know, it could turn out those rings were taken back by their original Princesses, but the Other Princesses have yet to take back their rings.

yeah it might be a weird and crazy theory, but I think it could be true, but it's okay that not everyone agrees that it might be true.

and I guess in a Fanon Timeline, the Princesses would have to co-rule with the embodiment of Melancholy and Vanity, maybe like a Yin and Yang relationship.

it might be possible that the Melancholy and Vanity Rings wouldn't be canon in both Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss, they would only be in the Fanon.

but fans can think of reasons why the elevator, doesn't go to the 8th and 9th rings, but in a Fanon Theory way.

a Fanon Theory, can explain some things that wouldn't be canon in the main timeline, and could be fanon but some can be semi-canon but still fall under the fanon.

Sans from Undertale being the future self of Steven from Steven Universe, could be seen as semi-canon and fanon. Sari from TFA (Transformers Animated) being the daughter of Megatron, could be seen as both semi-canon and fanon as well. there being a Reaper Queen in Mass Effect, but never got to appear, that would be semi-canon and fanon...

the Reaper Queen being part of the fanon, because even though she didn't get to appear in the game, fans can still try to do fan arts of her and maybe some fan fics. so she would be Semi-Canon, even if she didn't get to appear in the game but was plan to be in it.

and I believe that Sari might have two human parents that she got her DNA from, which happens to be Isaac Sumdac and Marissa Faireborn... me thinking that Marissa might also be Sari's Human Parent, has to do with the Red Hair, plus Isaac was wearing rubber gloves when he touched the protoform,and there is no way that the protoform that use to be Sari, could get enough DNA from that or any at all because of those gloves.

so it is possible that when Isaac was shocked and went out cold, some of his hair from the top of his head or mustache had fell off and got on the protoform, but it wasn't enough for the protoform, so it might be possible it need more DNA, so Marissa may have came into the lab and saw Isaac out cold and even touched the protoform like he did, and it may have shocked her as well and even made her go unconscious like Isaac. so if it were true, this would mean that Sari would have three parents, and not just two.

even if the Melancholy and Vanity Rings that are the 8th and 9th rings wont appear in the two shows, fans can still view them as rings that only appear in the Fanon.

but all the other rings, are still being ruled by Eon-Boomers...who are ficto-counterparts of ones who didn't really do anything to fix the imbalance that had to do with toxic-masculinity...

and we also have a problem with toxic-femininity, but lucky it isn't as high as the toxic-masculinity one...but doesn't mean it isn't still a problem. why is it that some masculine angels (even the fallen ones) think violence solves everything...?

anyway even if the Vanity Ring and Melancholy Ring wont be in the show, and even if they were, the elevator might not be able to go to those two rings.

those two rings might be closed off from the elevators, like they do have their own elevator, but it only goes from Vanity to Melancholy and vice-versa and it could of turned out it could go to the other rings, but no longer can.

I know it is really not likely that Melancholy and Vanity will not likely be in Helluva Boss or Hazbin Hotel, and even if they aren’t, they can always be in the Fanon and no one can get there by the elevator, because the elevator that can take those from the rings to those two rings, doesn’t work and you would probably have to go the other way to get to those two...

and the only elevator that does work, is the one that is only connected to the Melancholy and Vanity rings...

plus we could view that those two rings are under some kind of quarantine. 

maybe to make sense as to why they don’t appear or are mention in the canon, even if they would be just in the fanon.

How about an Encanto AU? I have not fully thought this through but Rua/Leo as Mirabel, the other Signers as the cousins. (I can't remember names for the life of me, but Crow as the shape-shifter, Aki as the plant girl, Ruka/Luna as the one who talks to animals. Perhaps? Idk I'd love to hear your thoughts about where everyone would fit in!)

About Ruka, yeah, her being the sibling who could talk with animals (Antonio) fits much better bc she's the last who gets her powers (do you remember the beginning of the movie, where Mirabelle encourages him right before the rite? That part, but with Rua and Ruka, it feels adorable to me! Even though it's a little heart-breaking for Rua) AND because she can talk to the monsters spirits in 5Ds!

Crow as Camilo (shape-shifter) would be so freaking hilarious, sign me up IMMEDIATELY

I'm crying bc age wise, the only role left that he could actually FIT IS FREAKING MARIANO HAHAHA (Isabela's bf, who later notices Dolores XD Yusei x Ruka is NOT my ship, but that's what would happen with a direct parallelism, unfortunately. I'd have to bend the main storyline in my favor :V)

I reeeeally wouldn't know about the other characters (Bruno, tia Pepa, Abuela...), they're all older, and I'd have trouble into looking for niche 5Ds characters to get them all in the Madrigal family.

We simply don't have an Abuela (Martha would be an excellent Julieta, Mirabel's mother, but never an Abuela) and Bruno's character is too important to be given to very niche characters... I first thought of Kiryu (I'd have to make him much older, of course)! But Pepa??? Would she be Sherry, with Bruno??? Again, they'd have to be much older-

SOooo yeah, this AU half-works as it is, but with some changes, it's an excellent story!

Three ships: Lets see...narrow it down to three...hmmm...

Spideypool. Don't judge me, they're precious little cinnamon buns and deserve good things. I suppose I have to state why I like them, huh? I like the back and forth with these two, they're sassy little bastards and they know it, while not shying away from the heavier stuff. They're hopeless but they compliment each other nicely.

2) Stolitz. I will go down with this ship. I love them. I need them to be happy. They're both going through hell (ha, literally!) and they need to work through some stuff but it's obvious that there's a real connection between them and if you ask me, they need each other. I also relate to Blitzo a fair bit so I want to see him happy...

3) Merthur. The Merlin fandom is the once and future fandom. Never let it die. WE WILL RISE AGAIN, STRONGER! *ehem* got a little carried away there...been watching a liiittle too much JackSepticEye content I think xD I don't think I need to explain my love for these two dorks, do I?

As for agonising earworms, there's been a lot of Christmas songs playing recently and every time I think "Oh Gods this is annoying" my brain, oh-so-helpfully goes "Annoying!? This morning I had "Driving Home for Christmas" by Chris Rea competing with "We Don't Talk about Bruno" from Disney's Encanto (which I love, don't get me wrong, but last time I got it stuck in my head it was there for three weeks!)

Last Movie:  "Goodnight Mister Tom" (1998) ...what? It's a classic. If you haven't seen it, you should give it a watch, it's very wholesome.

Currently Reading:  Well lets see now I currently have... *counts* ...fourteen? Fifteen! Fifteen AO3 tabs currently open, aside from that, I have bookmarks in no less than 10 books on my shelves...I wish I had the executive function and/or attention span to read the things I desperately want to finish. I got new books for Christmas too... *sobs in bookworm*

Analysis: Disney Princesses were never bad role models

Like a lot of people I grew up with Disney movies. Snow White even gave me my love of apples (true story!). My favorite was Beauty and the Beast because I thought "Belle looks like me and we are fond of the same thing." Even so, like an awful lot of people I thought the Disney princesses were weak girls only waiting for Prince Charming to save them without doing anything to help their situation.

I was wrong though: Disney Princesses were never weak or dumb! They're great characters with deep and various personalities! I'm here to argue that point to you in analysing the old ones + Ariel because she's known as the first strong one + Rapunzel because she's an interesting case.

Snow White case

First one to be analysed... Snow White... Aka "The one I can't stand". Yet I'll defend her because I don't like her but I can't let people talk badly about her!

To defend her, anyone would have replaced the movie into its context as if it was the only way to defend the character to be a bad one. From what I know of and searched, at that time most women were housewives and Snow White gives them some credits so of course it can be used to defend the movie, I won't deny it! However that would mean she's still a bad role model today and I don't think it helps her case. Intention doesn't matter when one criticizes something so I won't talk about the context and you'll see I don't need it to defend Snow White!

Yes, Snow White is a kind princess that talks to animals. We even see her in the beginning talking to a nestling that fell from its nest to help it like we help a human child. We also see the animals of the forest helping her many times like cleaning the house with her. How thoughtful of them!

Yet no, she's not weak of dumb. During the movie, she even do some sensible things as:

Fleeing when meeting the prince when he approached her at the start of the movie

When the hunter tells her to flee she is trying to understand what is happening and actually understand once he pronounces the queen's name.

Yet she hesitates, clearly wondering if it is true, but ends up fleeing because she knows her step-mother and knows she's capable of trying to kill her.

When she starts acting as a mother to the dwarfs she's kind, smiling, but strict enough to ask them for proof when they tell her they washed their hands. Seeing it not being the case, she pushes them to wash them if they want to eat. Which is what a good mom would do, to teach some manners to their children.

Before that, when arriving at the Dwarfs' house she starts cleaning because she thinks doing that will maybe make them want her to stay. The girl is interested and clever! A bit rude too, you don't clean people's houses without asking permission.

Then when the dwarfs discover her, after guessing (correctly) their names she starts to negotiate so that they would permit her to stay in their home. She even answers every concern of them with actual good arguments, such as The Queen not having any way to know where she is, and suggesting she could cook. Well, she showed how useful she was in cleaning so cooking wouldn't be a problem for her either. I can understand they agree. I tell you, negotiating well is a quality requiring intelligence!

At some point she laughs at Grumpy for being... Well Grumpy! It's his name and when she guessed it she made a big angry voice to joke about it. Good humor is a sign of intelligence!

Snow White is a sensible woman then, who takes smart decisions and thinks before taking them. I'm pretty sure that, if she ever existed in our world, she would fight fake news. Actually the dwarfs are the stupid ones! Yes guys... It's water so, yes, it's wet.

I'll conclude my part on Snow White in talking about her supposed weakness. To do so, I'll talk about an interesting part of the movie: Snow White eating the apple the transformed Queen gives her.

What I didn't remember (since each time I wanted to watch it as an adult I quickly stopped because of how I couldn't stand her) is how Snow White was basically forced to eat that apple. And wouldn't have if the circumstances had ever been different. I mean, if the animals didn't attack The Queen for example, Snow White wouldn't have made her enter the house to help her recover. Actually she refused at first to eat the apple but The Queen argued a lot, insisted, and I honestly know a lot of people at her place who would have been confused enough to be convinced. It's how conspiracy theories as the flat earth one works! Snow White was convinced by the same way that conspiracy theories work: a lot of arguments and not letting your opponent think so they can be convinced in the moment. Some will stay convinced, others won't because they would have thought about it afterwards or simply done some research.

Snow White shows little girls they should learn to adapt, looking for proof when in front of a claim, and not acting without thinking before! I say it's good to teach them.

About personality Snow White is a sensible 14 years old girl that can be kind or strict depending on what is needed. She can act, like when she makes the animals go away from the disguised Queen or when she decides to clean the house so the dwarfs would want her to stay, and she mostly stays positive.

Cinderella Case

For Cinderella I'll try to avoid talking too much about Cinderella III where she's at her best since we can see her use her cleverness and bravery. It's the best of the trilogy and where she's the most active but that movie was made to respond to the critics about her being too passive in the first movie.

maybe if i write a list about my stressors it will help with dealing with them? or at least acknowledging that i am indeed stressed would help lol

here is a list in non-list format, mostly just incoherent ramblings. the tl;dr is that family, work and health stuff is stressful. and i'm just so gotdam tired. let me sleep please.

my parents have been out of work for months now and it's starting to take a toll on everything, most of all their well-being but also finances are tight and apparently we've been using too much electricity recently so i can't game on weekdays :"D it's fine, i can do other stuff, but gaming is sadly the only activity that can get my brain to turn off and not think about stupid stuff - maybe i have a problem but also horizon is good :D therapist asked if i think it's an addiction and no, i don't feel like it, i can put it down no problem, but i sure do like how focused i can be on games. i really miss that feeling of focus and flow that i used to have with drawing and for the most part gaming can provide that, but sadly the big boi pc is too power-hungry :D

we don't talk about Bruno drawing, no, no, no :D

boyfriend is really down, like really really down, and i can't help him, most i can do is cry about it and hug him when he lets me - at least he is sharing some of it, as much as he can, which is good, but also heavy... i can deal with that tho, i just don't know what to say honestly, never been big on words XD i wish i could help, i'm very worried about him

my brother is coming home after like 5-7 years and i had to help mom deal with his packages while he is in Japan having fun and it's been a bit frustrating having to message him for info so that we can pay import tax on his stuff, and asking the same thing over and over because he clearly isn't paying attention to what i'm asking, so y'know, i'm a bit salty about that - i'm a bit salty about my brother in general but it's okay, i'll bury it as deep as i can, what else can you do about that

work is a mess right now on multiple fronts, lots of work, not enough people and time, and i can feel myself being so tired that i have genuinely just become rude to everyone around me, both coworkers and customers, it's not a good look

we've been getting as many orders as last christmas rush since the beginning of may, which is a lot, but also we've been doing five people's work with 3 people since last march i think, more than a year basically, so going full christmas mode for months with like one week of pto back in june is just the icing on the exhaustion-cake - and going on pto guilty knowing that two people aren't gonna be able to do everything needed and then coming back from pto to two weeks chaos because the guy who brings in the books was on vacation and then your coworker was on pto leaving you to be one of the two people doing the job means that one week is like it wasn't even there, and i'm just so tired i actually just can't stop crying sometimes

trying to find a new coworker hasn't really worked out yet, the one person who tried lasted a week and then we didn't exactly have time to find someone else which just makes everything more and more overwhelming

and to top it all off the vibes are rancid, everyone is tired and irritable and i just end up not talking to anyone and just listening to youtube when i'm alone and it's not really great when it's just three people in the office - we used to joke around and generally be a fun group, but y'know, we are tired and cranky and tensions are building, i honestly fear when it's gonna blow

but also i'm so so so tired i just don't feel like i can socialise like i used to

i can barely take care of myself or do my chores at home, like i don't remember the last time i brushed my teeth, i very often skip showering for days, it takes me a month to do two loads of laundry and who knows when was the last time i changed bedsheets or vacuumed (well last weekend but before that i literally don't remember, the dirt on the floor was very visible sadly) - all this makes me feel like a failure as a human being, like i can't even do the most basic things and i feel thoroughly disgusted by myself

i went to the doctor with the near constant headaches and messy sleep and even messier periods i've been having (it's not a recent thing, me having headaches, but the last couple of months it's gotten worse) and so now i gotta go to a bunch of doctors to get checked out but wait times are very very long :"D i got lucky i can get an ultrasound for pcos in november lol - naturally doctor visits are stressful, i hate it, and i also hate measuring my blood pressure 3 times a day but what can you do (forget to do it, that's what, my sheet is pretty spotty so far). i gotta go to a nerve doc, a junk doc and possibly an eye doc because at this point who knows why my head hurts and why i can't sleep, apart from all the stress XD and it's not helping much that i can only call neurology between 7-8 am, i'm lucky if i can kick myself out of bed for work at 8:50 lol

i keep forgetting more and more things, and tbh i'm not sure it's because of the stress or the tiredness or something worse, and i keep making mistakes and then bashing myself for it, i hate it

i've been going diligently to a psychologist for quite some time now, mostly to work through some recent-ish stuff but also to figure out why i'm the way i am, and idk i feel like i'm not really making progress. that could be my perfectionism talking, and also y'know how everything is my fault and i still don't know where that came from :D maybe i should ask her what could be wrong apart from being tired - like is it a big cup of depresso espresso, or is it extra jitter, or am i just really that tired? maybe my hormones are out of whack?? who knows??? i hate that i do not know!!! and i'm terrified of having to go to so many doctors!!!!

sleeping is such a deep need and yet here i am dreading it because i can't fall asleep easily because i can't get my brain to shut up, and then i randomly wake up in the middle of the night, my heart pounding, because i have this vague sense of having to do something to prevent something horrible from happening, each time a bit different, but so visceral i have trouble calming my heart to go back to sleep - the worst thing is that i never remember what it was that i had to do or had to prevent, but i remember flailing my arms around very often when that happens :"D like i'm pointing at random stuff or brushing something to the side, and quite often i feel like someone rearranged my room when i wake up like that :""D and when i do fall asleep i have very weird and vivid dreams about magic and life and work, so great stuff all around

i wonder if you know how i feel. nah i know you don't know. i always felt that we were kids, impressionable 10 year olds barely knowing our times tables. i always assumed we didn't know what we were doing, so therefore nothing counted. no bad word you said to me, no good word you said, no hug, no letter you wrote me with little hearts drawn on the corners, no song i sang or wrote about you, no tear i shed for you, no insecurity i made you feel counted. we were 9, 10. what business did we have being in a romantic relationship with each other...for a year?!!!! there we were, the talks during break, nothing hectic or obscene, the SMSes between us,inappropriate yet innocent, the jokes, your pretty smile, my mild humour (i was never really sure what you liked about me, i tried not to question it and saw my esteem boost, yk, you're my "baby girl") as you have it, we move on and forget each other, like 5 year olds who've just pecked each other on the cheek, didn't matter yeah? i thought so too until recently. you see ive never been one for physical affection, always been fairly soft, you of all people would know this...

always lived in a fairytale and you were my fairytale come true. i walked in and out of relationships throughout my teens, growing and meeting new people, but there's always been a disconnect. everyone seems to mature except me. 10 years after our juvenile love affair i find myself wanting letters from a significant other, wanting to talk for hours on end about inappropriate but innocent things, wanting to just sit in their company and see their pretty smile while my mild humor drives the conversation, not being sure what they see in me and therefore seeing a boost in my self esteem 'Cause hey, they're my baby girl. the world was full of color when i was in "love" with you. things were safe, alot more promising in 2014/5. Disney XD was still popular and I thought i was leo from lab rats and you were KC from KC Undercover. Bruno Mars' treasure would play and I'd think of you, despicable me had that character Margo who always made me think of you, that scene in despicable me 2 at the mall when she looked at her crush and "just a cloud away" always summed up how I felt about u, that's exactly how u used 2 look at me. you made me feel like I was likeable, don't get me wrong, that era of my life is where i was my most cocky about my looks, i was fire and i knew it, i didn't need validation but man did yours hit the spot! and when we talked? it was never deep or hectic as teens would speak about depression and their daddy issues, but we got along and flowed so well, it was perfect somehow, at age 10.

it hits me now, as i struggle to keep up with the pace of modern relationships. teenage dating is so complicated for me, it's abrasive to, involving sex and expensive things with the me and the other person never really connecting properly.

i realise what hastens my progress is that i still want a fairytale, our fairytale. it was safe, colorful and i understood it, sure there were horrible moments that have scarred me to date but 4 the most part...it made sense. we never kissed, hugged occasionally and we giggled alot, we liked each other, would stare at each other and i mainly just experienced u. i desire that but realise it was my first experience of a relationship and it did define my perception of dating largely, as my perception of it now is an advanced form of what we had, but I'm not 10 anymore. Disney XD was discontinued years ago, im 19, about 2 start my second year, looking for a job and fairytales don't exist.

i don't know if you'll ever find this, this is super cringe and i rarely write like this but if you do see this i want you to know that you'll forever be special to me, you're my sweetie pie, my "first love" and will never really leave my heart, that's why i don't forget January 15 every year.

anyways i made a Playlist of all the songs i used to sing about you, the songs that defined my understanding of love as a 9 and 10 year old with a girlfriend he barely gets along with. the title seems random but there was this day when i was 9 when i took a walk in July and the atmosphere was strange, the sun was shining but it was chilly, the streets in my neighborhood were empty (uncommon ko kasi), the clouds were bright and i just happened 2 think of you, so i called it "world mayibongwe day". it was probably the 9th of July idk. anyway, i hope you know there's no girl ive met that i respect more than you, i weirdly miss you and i hope you become successful as a musician (i always found the fact that you sing and play piano sexy😏)

i also know i messed up things between the 2 of us the last time (fun fact the day we last spoke i was at court to collect my parent's divorce papers, a petty excuse for my behavior that day but i was clouded im sorry) so yea Mayi, from Ora. this 3 page essay probably doesn't mean anything 2 u but thus revelation about myself has brought me so much peace, a gas refill on this journey of peace im on... peace and love ❤️

Do I Follow Them? Yeah, I follow a few of Ally's blogs, even if I suppose that Petal's blog is the most active among them. So far I've enjoyed writing with all the characters they have offered me, so while I don't mind focusing on one muse, I kinda miss some of the other interactions from time to time xD

Why Did I Follow Them? Damn, it's been a while since we followed each other, over a year, I think...? 🤔 I honestly don't remember who followed first, I think it was Ally for her Meg blog tho! They seemed nice and very interested in interacting and I didn't have many RP partners here back then, so I was more than glad to interact with them. I'm glad that they found him and that we're still writing to this day

Do I Ship Our Muses? Platonically, we have quite a few relationships. I think that the most developed one after Morty and Petal is the weird rivalry between my Evil Morty and @evilmcg. We also wrote their Slick Morty and my Rick OC (AR) for quite some time. As for non platonic ships, I think that so far the only one is Rick & Petal's fuck buddies arrangement? 🤔 I hope that I'm not forgetting someone xD

What I Think About The Mun: Ally is great! They are one of my most interacting mutuals and I'm really grateful for that. They send me more asks than all my other mutuals put together I think xD Also they are always willing to plot and talk ideas and that's something that I truly appreciate, since unfortunately good communication is a rare thing in the rpc.

Overall Opinion: Petal is a very interesting and captivating character, I high recommended checking her out! She's also very easy to crossover with and plenty of shenanigans to write. Also plenty of chances to build arcs, since she has a complex past and plenty of NPCs that belong to it!
