Hey Aster! Could we get a guide on Ares please?
Ares, Greek God of Everything Kind and Sweet: A Guide
Just kidding, of course.
Hi! I'm Astin/Aster and this is my guide to Ares. A disclaimer before we begin, this is going to be bare-bones basic. I will not be going over any specific myths in the post. Hope this is helpful!
Ares is the god of war and thus peace, as appeasing him would thus prevent war, bloodshed and bloodlust, violence, anger/rage, manliness, rebellion. Something to note is that Ares is less of the strategy involved in war, and more of the actuality of it. He is not only a god of war but the personification of it.
His parents are Zeus and Hera, and his lover was Aphrodite. With Aphrodite, according to Hesiod's theogony, he has three children, Phobos (Terror), Deimos (Fear), and Harmonia (Harmony).
Sacred Symbols, Animals, and Epithets
His symbols are the spear, as well as armor, particularly the helm and shield.
His sacred animals were:
Serpents- he is frequently depicted with one and has myths regarding serpents.
Barn owl, eagle owl, and woodpecker, as shown:
Antoninus Liberalis, Metamorphoses 21 (trans. Celoria) (Greek mythographer C2nd A.D.) :
"Zeus loathed them [the giants Agrios and Oreios] and sent Hermes to punish them . . . But Ares, since the family of Polyphonte [mother of the giants] descended from him, snatched her sons from this fate. With the help of Hermes he changed them into birds. Polyphonte became a small owl whose voice is heard at night. She does not eat or drink and keeps her head turned down and the tips of her feet turned up. She is a portent of war and sedition for mankind. Oreios became an eagle owl, a bird that presages little good to anyone when it appears. Argios was changed into a vulture, the bird most detested by gods and men. These gods gave him an utter craving for human flesh and blood. Their female servant was changed into a woodpecker. As she was changing her shape she prayed to the gods not to become a bird evil for mankind. Hermes and Ares heard her prayer because she had by necessity done what her masters had ordered. This a bird of good omen for someone going hunting or to feasts."
He is also associated with horses, as his chariot is pulled by them.
Another notable animal are the bronze bulls, depicted as so:
Ovid, Heroides 12.39 ff : "The condition is imposed [by King Aeetes] that you [Jason] press the hard necks of the fierce bulls at the unaccustomed plow. To Mars [Ares] the bulls belonged, raging with more than mere horns, for their breathing was of terrible fire; of solid bronze were their feet, wrought round with bronze their nostrils, made black, too, by the blasts of their own breath."
Notable Epithets:
Thêritas - Beastly, brutish
Gynaikothoinas - Feasted by women
Enyalios - Warlike
Khrysopêlêx - Of the golden helm
Obrimos - Strong, mighty
Worship
His This section is going to be mainly UPG, so if you think of something else you'd like to do or give, please do so, as long as it is respectful.
Sacred Day:
Tuesday
Offerings:
Snake symbolism
Symbolism of His sacred birds
Spicy food
Feathers from His sacred birds (sourced ethically)
Self defense weapons
Imagery of Him
Devotional Activities:
Workout or do physical activity
Go to a protest
Stand up for yourself and what you believe in
Work on anger management
Honor Aphrodite and their children together
Do something you're really passionate about

So...is it me or does...Ares just like birds more than Athena does.
I mean he has at minimum 3 sacred birds in the Woodpecker, Vulture, and Owl (no really)*, most of his famous smiting myths involve turning people into birds (Cycnus in some tellings gets turned into a swan, he turned Tereus, Philomela, and Prokne into a hawk, swallow, and nightingale, and Alectryon got turned into a chicken to either dodge Aphrodite's wrath or because Ares was enraged with him not warning them of the sun (or both but potato potahto considering the Golden Net Incident happened shortly thereafter)), and he had metal coated feather slinging birds guarding his sacred grove to the Golden Fleece.
Which gives us a vivid image of the Brutal God of War who turns battlefield into a harvest as a GirlDad who tends to his pet birds in his spare time.
Which also paints a vivid image of Ares taking care of Aphrodite's pet doves and naming each one and Ares giving Athena an owl as a gift when he was young. *I. BARN OWL (Greek aigolios), EAGLE-OWL (Greek buas), VULTURE (Greek gups), WOODPECKER (Greek ipne)
Antoninus Liberalis, Metamorphoses 21 (trans. Celoria) (Greek mythographer C2nd A.D.) : "Zeus loathed them [the giants Agrios and Oreios] and sent Hermes to punish them . .

Greek Goddess Legacy Challenge: Generation #1: World Filling Characters

Did you know Aitna is one of the 9 mountain deities? She has 8 siblings walking around the earth with her, talk about a big family! If you want to enrich your simworld with them: meet Athos, Helikon, Kitharion, Nysa, Olympus, Oreios, Parnithia and Tmolus! Find all of their information on this sheet. Looking for more about Gaia's challenge? Use these sheets:
Gaia (must) World Preparation (must) Gaia's Children (recommended)
The Greek Goddesses Challenge by LJJ-Sims is a challenge based on the ancient mythical creatures and stories from Greece. I fell in love with Greek mythology in high school and have not let that love go since. In this challenge you will follow 10 deities in their journey through life. Every goddess has a different take on and goal in life. Special about this challenge? All your kids have little challenges of their own, not only your heir. These challenges are optional, so if you feel like these are too much or just too restricting for you: by all means let them go. I also have sheets for characters that you can make before you start each generation. This gives your challenge a lot more personality and makes it frankly easier and more fun!

Pray for me, oh children, pray for what I've done
warning: depiction of the aftermath of a suicide
High Priestess Asaria felt different somehow. Smaller, quieter. She averted eye contact, not out of superiority to everyone else here, but out of fear, it seemed.
She's been like that ever since she returned from the trial of the Witch of Creitum. To think that the High Priestess had second thoughts about having brought about the end of her own sister, although traitorous, but still flesh and blood - prepostrous and blasphemous. As a fairly new initiate, Oreios was in no place to throw such accusations.
Yet it seemed so logical. He couldn't help but watch her leave the chamber once she passed him.
Oreios had dripped some candlewax on the cover of a beautiful Eothasian prayer book yesterday. The High Priestess had ordered him to clean it up. No humiliation. No punishment. Not even a scornful look.
----------------------------------------------------
He found himself worrying for her, strangely enough.
Oreios felt hot-sharp anxiety at the back of his head.
"Go to the High Priestess' chamber and inform her of my request."
"Priest Hephalon, I am but an initiate. I cannot invade the High Priestess' private quarters and give her orders" he said in a rushed panic. Unwise words despite a wise choice.
"You are but an initiate. And my subordinate. Do as I ask. Summon the High Priestess" Hephalon's voice was stern, borderline vicious.
"Yes, Priest."
Oreios scurried away.
Oreios hurried through the corridors of the temple. He stopped at the door to the High Priestess' private chamber. Only high ranking Eothasians were allowed to knock on this door, and even they were often met with her displeasure.
Hephalon wouldn't risk the High Priestess chastising him for a reason as fickle as wanting her advice with the preparations for the mass next dawn celebrating the fall of the heretics. He must have noticed it too. Her changed demeanor, the air of uncertainty that surrounded her.
Perhaps since something is apparently wrong, she won't mind it that much, he hoped.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
No response.
He waited a minute, two minutes. Once courage steadied his mind, he attempted opening the door. Bold move.
Locked.
"Priest Hephalon?" Oreios announced his presence. "The High Priestess didn't answer the door."
----------------------------------------------------
"Where is she, then?" his previous frustration seemed to have subtly molded into worry.
"I do not know."
"No one knows, is the problem. No one has seen her all day, and there is so much work to do for tomorrow" Hephalon furrowed his brow, thinking. "We shall enter her chamber. Forcefully, if we have to."
Oreios nearly gasped in shock at the idea.
"But Priest, doing that this strictly forbidden!"
"I'm aware. But since she is nowhere to be found and no one seems to have seen her leave the temple, logic dictates that she is probably in there. Something might have happened to her. Not checking on her would be shirking our duties."
Hephalon looked at the magnificent stained glass window depicting the cycle of rebirth.
"May the light of Eothas bless her."
----------------------------------------------------
The door stood unchanged, still locked, a mystery on the other side. Hephalon had knocked several times. No response, just like before.
Just like when Oreios had visited this place, there was no answer. He noticed Hephalon's ears twitching nervously.
"High Prestess! Are you in there?" anxiety crept into the Priest's voice. "Is everything alright?"
Some time passed, in complete silence. Eventually Hephalon handed a crowbar to Oreios. The initiate wedged it between the door and its frame. A moment later the door gave in and opened with a loud crack.
The priest pushed the door, slowly and carefully. The inside of the chamber was pitch black. Hephalon muttered a quick prayer to Eothas and a glowing orb appeared in his hand, basking the room in soft light.
----------------------------------------------------
There was so much blood.
"Bright Eothas" whispered Hephalon, his hands trembling.
The High Priestess' body laid on an ornate bed, sheets soaked in crimson, long dried. A deep cut marked each of her wrists.
Oreios had thought it possible that something might have happened to the High Priestess but he hadn't imagined this.
Polished silver mirror, thrown on the floor. Ceremonial robes, singed and crumpled up right next to it. The air around them smelled faintly of smoke. That unique gold Eothasian pendant the High Priestess always wore, bent in half.
A dagger, covered in dried blood.
Finding a bit of tranquility among the disturbance in his mind, Oreios pieced together everything he saw. That fleeting thought he had when he last saw the High Priestess, that blasphemous idea - it was true.
High Priestess Asaria's faith had broken.
----------------------------------------------------
The tragic news travelled faster than either of them expected. Not longer than three days after their discovery, the Grandmaster himself arrived to the Temple.
The mass had been cancelled. The beggars were fed, as was the custom, but celebration would have to wait until after mourning was over. Everyone in the temple had been informed of the High Priestess' death, though Hephalon and Oreios had decided to keep the details to themselves, for now.
Hephalon, as a higher ranking member of the temple, was invited to speak with him first. After what felt like an eternity, Oreios was asked to enter the chamber. He expected to see Hephalon there but the priest was nowhere in sight.
"Tell me, how does a priest and an initiate find themselves in the High Priestess' chamber?" The Grandmaster's gaze was deeply uncomfortable, nearly painful. His demand to constantly keep eye contact made it all the worse.
It was a great honor to speak to Thaos ix Arkannon himself, the Chosen of Woedica, and yet Oreios couldn't help but feel uneasy at his incessant questioning. Question after question, he became increasingly convinced that it was not only an investigation into the High Priestess' tragic death but also an interrogation against him.
"We had to do something. No one had seen her all day, despite the fact that she was needed. No one had seen her leave either. She didn't answer the door when we knocked. Priest Hephalon was concerned that something was wrong. He asked me to forcefully open the door.
The Grandmaster furrowed his brow, considering his words "So you admit to breaking into High Priestess Asaria's private chamber?
"I... no! I mean... yes, but we had good intentions, we only wanted to help. I would have never done that if I didn't believe the High Priestess could have been in danger. I had to do something."
"So you keep saying. Do you think High Priestess Asaria was strong enough to bend her pendant?"
The bizarre question made Oreios even more uneasy than before. "I... maybe? I don't know."
"Have you ever seen her bend metal?"
"I don't... think I have."
"You are quite physically strong, aren't you? You managed to force that door open." The implication chilled the blood in Oreios' veins. Thaos continued after several excruciating seconds. "What do you think happened to her?"
"I... I don't think it's my place to speak of such things."
"I want to hear your opinion regardless." It was a trap, and Oreios knew it. Nevertheless, the Grandmaster wouldn't accept refusal as an answer. He had no choice but to tell him what he thought.
"Well... She had been acting strange since she got back from the trial of the Witch of Creitum. It was like all confidence had left her. Then the locked door and her wounds... I uh... I think she may have killed herself."
The Grandmaster stayed silent, staring him down, waiting for more. Oreios gave in.
"The pendant and robe... it seemed like she had forsaken Eothas and couldn't bear it."
A fleeting emotion crossed the Grandmaster's face. Satisfaction?
"You forcefully entered the High Priestess' chamber and now you are accusing her of heresy, suggesting she put trust in the lies of the Witch of Creitum. A new initiate, saying such bold things - quite suspicious, don't you think? It's a wonder how Iovara and her people survived as long as they did. Hephalon told me everything, after some encouragement. You didn't think you could lie to me, did you?"
Oreios' heart started racing, a hundred thoughts crossing his mind at once. Was his life over?
"...WHAT?! We didn't kill her!"
"I never said you did. An yet here you are, defending yourself anyway."
"Grandmaster, I swear, my devotion to Eothas is true! I would never act against the High Priestess!" Oreios pleaded, though it was no use at all.
"Spare me your words, traitor."
Oreios was tied, blindfolded, and gagged. Even that couldn't muffle all the sound of his wailing. He knew exactly what happened to those accused of heresy. He'd seen the trials and executions, many of them conducted by High Priestess Asaria.
----------------------------------------------------
How could he have ended up in this situation, innocent but accused? How could the Chosen of the goddess of law do this?
How many more had been falsely punished?
When Oreios was thrown onto a cart, he heard a faint, muffled yelp. He recognized the voice. Hephalon. As the cart began moving, Oreios started feeling around with his tied hands, searching. Eventually he found Hephalon's furry hands and squeezed them.
Hephalon squeezed back.
In his last moments Oreios was glad there was no trial. Only lake water, only sinking deeper and deeper, to erase any trace of the two men who found out something that could shake people's faith in the gods.
A small fish noticed a bit of green growth in the distance. Hunger led it to an unfamiliar structure, full of strange holes and angles. It nibbled at the algae growing from the surface of the formation.
----------------------------------------------------
Another structure like it, but smaller, a little further away. Good hiding spots, the fish thought.
It would be a long time before the two skulls broke down and became a part of the lake and its creatures. For now, they remained. A memory of a scheme much grander than any of their current inhabitants could possibly comprehend.
Another body, in another place, perfectly embalmed, laying in a perfect gold sarcophagus. Saint Asaria, Eothasian patron of warriors of a righteous cause. Holy martyr brutally murdered by what remained of the heretics who followed the teachings of the Witch of Creitum.
sincere thanks to @adozentothedawn for allowing me to adopt the martyr saint idea. your fic is SO GOOD
Regrettably for herself, the Grandmaster, and the Queen of Gods, she wasn't done. Not yet.

Character Intro: The Ourea (Kingdom of Ichor)
from left to right: Athos, Helicon, Kithaeron, Nysos, Olympos, Oreios, Tmolus, & Parnes

Nicknames- The Rockies, The Silver Brothers by the people of Olympius
Kithaeron- Kit by his brothers & friends
Age(s)- mid 40's
Location- Throughout Olympius
Personalities- They're about as dysfunctional as any group of siblings- different personalities vying for control & attention. Being the eldest, Athos is a natural leader. He's athletic and emotionally stoic. Helicon loves being surrounded by nature & is the self proclaimed "hippie" of the group. Kithaeron is a natural entertainer- always wanting to bring a laugh out of his brothers. He's a great lover of music as well. Nysos is "the heart" of the group, with family being the most important above all other things. Olympos is larger than life- arrogant, self-absorbed, & a bit snobbish. Oreios has an adventurous streak with an unquenchable thirst for acquiring knowledge. Out of all of the brothers, Parnes harbors the most resentment towards their mother. A true survivalist, he's also practical, resilient, and self-reliant. Tmolus, much like Kithaeron, is a fellow music enthusiast. He also appreciates art as well as literature.
They all have the standard abilities of a god. Their other shared powers/abilities include vounókinesis (mountain manipulation), fire immunity, limited hydrokinesis (as it pertains to rivers & mountain streams), avalanche generation, being able to induce altitude sickness in other beings, limited lava and magma manipulation, teleportation (but only to different mountains), aerokinesis (air manipulation), stone & metal mimicry, as well as being able to manipulate all minerals and gemstones.
Athos' sacred mountain is his namesake and is located in Thrace (8,033 meters tall).
Helicon's sacred mountain is his namesake and is located in Boeotia, near the two sacred springs of The Muses (6,749 meters tall).
Kithaeron's sacred mountain is his namesake and is also located in Boeotia, not too far from Helicon (5,900 meters tall).
Nysos' sacred mountain is Mt. Nysa, located in Boeotia (5,000 meters tall).
Olympos' sacred mountain is Mt. Olympus, located in Olympius' capital and is over 10,000 meters tall.
Oreios' sacred mountain is Mt. Othyrs and the current height is unknown.
Tmolus' sacred mountain is his namesake, located in Lydia (4,800 meters tall).
Parnes' sacred mountain is Mt. Parnithia, located in Attica and is a little over 3,000 meters tall.
The Ourea's physical appearance is that of a hyperborean giant- sharing the same silver white hair, pale skin, ice blue eyes, & incredible height of 10 ft (though they're able to shift their height of an average mortal). Olympos' skin is now golden bronze due to obsessive tanning.
They come from the greatest Olympian dynasty. They're the youngest progeny of Gaia (goddess of the earth). She conceived them all on her own- a tremendous display of her fertility! The Ourea's other half siblings include the former ruler of Titanius- Kronos (Titan god of the harvest, time, & fate), the former ruler of the Underwater realm- Oceanus (Titan god of the sea), the former ruler of the Underworld- Krios (Titan god of stars & constellations), Eurybia (goddess of the sea's mastery), as well as Thaumas (god of sea wonders). Their nephews are the new rulers of the three realms- Hades (god of the dead), Poseidon (god of the sea & earthquakes), and Zeus (god of the sky, thunder, & lightning).
The brothers are well aware of the fact that their conception and birth was a means to an end. They were expertly crafted weapons meant to aid in the Gigantomachy- the war between Gods & Giants which solidified the Olympians' rule.
The Ourea is fluent in all the languages spoken in Olympius.
Gaia was their general of sorts. They were (and still are) devoted to her. The Ourea also aided in teaching some of their nephew's heirs in battle- like Dionysus (god of wine), Athena (goddess of wisdom), and Hermes (god of roads, travelers, thieves, merchants, messengers, speed, trade, sports, borders, thoughts, communications, money, & luck).
In recognition for their service, The Ourea were awarded with stars on the Pantheon Walk of Fame.
It's been many years since all the brothers were in the same place together. Some are closer than others, but they all try to stay in the loop with each other through various forms of communication- phone calls, e-mail, & written letters.
Aside from Nysos and a few others, the rest of The Ourea doesn't have much of a relationship with their extended family.
Parnes feels the most conflicted about his feelings towards Gaia. He feels that the label "mother" is too generous to attach to her, loathing the devotion he feels towards her. The one being in all the realms he hates with every drop of ichor in his body is the one he can't help but defend whenever she's insulted.
The Ourea collectively has a single group business venture- The Ouros Wilderness theme park & resort, located in Komotini, Thrace's capital. Spanning 700 acres, their theme park is the largest in all of Olympius! There are indoor & outdoor activities like bungee jumping, ziplining, rock climbing, and ice skating. There's also over a dozen attractions, four mega arcades, an 18-hole golf course, a spa, as well as many diverse dining options. The theme park's most popular attraction is the Cavern Supercharge- a roller coaster measuring 8,000 ft long with a top speed of 95 mph. The ride goes through a deep mountainous cavern starting off pitch black, the dark soon illuminates with glittering & bioluminescent crystals and gems overhead & below. Afterwards, the riders are given a small bag of pyrite- otherwise known as fool's gold.
The theme park is also known for their sweet treats like rocky road ice cream cones, crystal brownies (fudge brownies topped with various colored candy rock popping pieces), overstuffed s'mores milkshakes, as well as the behemoth dessert known as The Avalanche. The Avalanche consists of 16 scoops of chocolate dipped vanilla & chocolate ice cream and is topped with sprinkles, malt powder, chocolate cookie crumbles, chopped peanuts, fudge brownie chunks, a dozen maraschino cherries in addition to liquid toppings like hot fudge, caramel, and an entire can of whipped cream. The frozen treat weighs nearly 7 pounds & though it's meant for group servings, that doesn't stop beings from trying to eat it by themselves. Since the park started serving it, only fifteen have ever completed the challenge. A being usually has an hour to finish The Avalanche. If they manage to finish it, the payment of the sundae is waived, they get a free "I Survived The Avalanche" T-shirt, their photo is added to the Wall of Fame with all the other winners, as well as receiving a 100 drachma gift card for the resort's gift shop.
Collectively, The Ourea has shared friends like Bronte (goddess of thunder), Pan (god of the wild, satyrs, shepherds, & rustic music), Astrape (goddess of lightning), Horkos (god of oaths), The Pleiades (Maia, Electra, Celaeno, Taygete, Alcyone, Asterope, & Merope), Eváeros (goddess of air & the zodiacs), Astraeus (Titan god of dusk), Chrysanta (goddess of metal), Axiótimos (god of honor), the three blacksmithing cyclopes (Brontes, Arges, & Steropes), Chiron (the immortal centaur), as well as the three hecatoncheires- (Cottus, Briareus, & Gyges).
They have fallen out of contact with their former close friend Atlas (Titan god of strength & endurance) since he was pardoned.
Athos splits his time between New Olympus, Thrace, & Arcadia. Because of his singular main job, he primarily resides at his studio apartment at the Agrotera Ridge Residences, an apartment building complex located in the Lunar district of New Olympus. He also owns a small cottage in Arcadia and will check on his mansion situated on his namesake mountain every once in a while. Athos' mountain is widely known as "the holy mountain." It consists of many monasteries- with Aeschyne (goddess of modesty & honor) overseeing the construction of the latest one being built. When he wants to get away from everything, he'll spend some time at his mountain, taking in every second of silence. Out of his brothers Athos is closest to Oreios, Parnes, & especially Nysos- since they talk on the phone daily. A go-to drink for him is the homemade smoothie he makes with frozen cherries, spinach, unsweetened chocolate almond milk, & two scoops of whey protein powder. Athos fills a thermos with it- which he brings to work. He also enjoys beer, pomegranate juice, ginger ale, bourbon, red wine, as well as olympian sized dark roast coffee from The Roasted Bean. Athos has two pet dogs- cane corsos named Stalagmite & Stalacite. He'll sometimes go on a run with them through the Celestial Woods. Athos' job is teaching seventh grade earth science at Olympion Middle- the junior high school located in downtown New Olympus. The school shares the same expansive compound as Olympion Primary & Olympion High, the elementary and high schools. To him, earth science isn't just "dirt and rocks." Athos tries making the lessons fun & engaging for all his students. He's even planning an overnight class trip to Thrace for the students to study cave and crystal formations. His most engaged student is Thrasos (god of boldness, insolence, recklessness, & courage). Even though Athos claims to be too busy for romance, he'd be lying to himself if he said he wasn't attracted to the 7th grade health teacher- an oread named Shaile Slatestone. They'll sometimes strike up a conversation while having lunch in the teacher's lounge. Outside of school, Athos has gained interest in bodybuilding. He's an avid reader of Powerpulse, a popular fitness magazine & he works out before and after work without fail seven days a week. Athos is even thinking about entering Mr. Colossus- the most well known & prestigious bodybuilding competition in the country. Every once in a while he'll treat himself to a large cup of chocolate cookie crumble ice cream from The Frozen Spoon as well as a double bacon olympian burger from Olympic Chef. In the pantheon Athos is also friends with Harpocrates (god of silence & discretion), Pagoniá (goddess of ice), and Ponos (god of hard labor & toil). In his free time he enjoys mountain climbing, basketball, hiking, meal prepping, archery, bowling, & reading. Athos' favorite meal is grilled salmon with roasted sweet potatoes and steamed asparagus.
Helicon lives on his sacred mountain in Boeotia, though he's also fond of traveling. The interior design of the mansion has an eclectic mix of colors, patterns, & textures. The flooring is light cedarwood covered with many woven rugs while the walls are covered in tapestries with intricate mandalas and other nature inspired motifs. There's rattan & wicker furniture pieces as well as bean bag chairs. In his bedroom there's a canopy bed along with a hammock. There's also a room specifically for meditation- complete with healing gemstones & crystals, incense sticks, lit candles, and humidifiers. There's no afixed lighting, with Helicon opting for natural sunlight coming in through the windows. He has a beloved animal companion- a pegasus named Sunbeam. Sunbeam is Helicon's primary mode of transportation when traveling. When he travels to Arcadia, he'll stay at Pan's commune. Helicon will typically start out his day with a quick shower followed by an hour long session of meditation, as well as taking a drink from The Muses' sacred spring. It's been said that the springs' water is even sweeter than the waters of Elysium. Helicon can play the acoustic guitar as well as the ukulele & bongo drum. Out of his brothers, he's closest to Kit, Nysos, and Tmolus- especially in regards to their mutual love of music. Instead of having a modern device, he has a vintage record player. Helicon loves listening to folk, country, bluegrass, & alternative music- with his favorite band being Chapters of Lore. He's also a frequent customer of The Sonic Sanctuary, the largest record shop in the state located in Boeotia's capital, Livadeia. Even though he's vegan, there are times where Helicon goes through long periods of fasting for "cleansing and enlightenment." A go-to drink for him is the homemade wheatgrass smoothie he makes with agave syrup, banana, soy milk, spinach, pineapple, and ice. He also likes aloe vera juice, coconut milk, lychee juice, coconut water, carrot juice, a hippie juice cocktail, apple cider, orange juice, as well as the surfer on acid cocktail. Usuals from The Roasted Bean includes a large decaf coffee (with extra coconut milk creamer) and an olympian sized lemonade. He dislikes when Parnes & Olympos give him shit about his veganism or doesn't take it seriously. Helicon often visits the Herbal Harmony cannabis dispensary for some pot, which he smokes recreationally. His favorite frozen treat is dragonfruit sorbet, prefering to make his own. In the pantheon Helicon is also friends with Damia (goddess of naturalness), Nárkosi (goddess of sedation), Anatole (goddess of sunrise), Demeter (goddess of the harvest & agriculture), and Alectrona (goddess of the morning). He became a first time mentor, mentoring Corymbus (Cory) (god of the ivy). Helicon is knowledgeable and has recently written a book on mountainous botany. He's the founder of The Green Conservancy- a non profit organization founded for the purpose of promoting & establishing wildlife conservation. He also volunteers for Haven for Beings. Surprisingly, he's gone to visit Gaia at her estate in Meteora. Helicon identifies as queer, open to a connection with any being. He's had a fling with a satyr named Tarius and is currently seeing a lotus eater named Cyra, who he met while volunteering during Haven for Beings- building a series of houses in a neighborhood in Pyrgos. In his free time he enjoys sunbathing, listening to music, karaoke, gardening, swimming, pottery, surfing, hiking, & yoga. Helicon's favorite meal is a bowl of loaded ginger soba noodles (added with sesame seeds, ginger glazed tofu, and snow peas).
Kithaeron lives atop his sacred mountain in Boeotia. The interior design of his mansion is the perfect mix of classic & funky with statement furniture pieces (like a rubik's cube coffee table), eclectic artwork on the walls, a bright playful color palette, as well as different textured and patterned rugs with various light fixtures. The most important room is his music room that holds his collection of musical instruments. Framed music themed artwork cover the walls. There's also suede & velvet chairs, an upright piano, as well as other instruments mounted on the walls like harps, lyres, trumpets, and trombones. There's even an electric guitar! Kit is closest to Helicon, Tmolus, & Nysos. There has always been a playful spark of competition between him and Helicon. They would often annoy their other brothers, asking them which of the two was the better singer. When he travels, he mainly likes going to Delphi & New Olympus. Kithaeron enjoys a wide range of musical genres- if it sounds good to him, he'll listen. He's a well known record producer in the music industry- having worked around Apollo (god of the sun, music, poetry, healing, medicine, archery, plague, light, & knowledge), Euterpe (muse of music & lyric poetry), GA-zelle (a dryad rapper), and even Eurydice (a dryad singer/rapper). As a producer, he's won over 30 Golden Laurel awards. Kit's latest project is the first album of a debut artist- a maenad who performs under the stage name Madame Starlight. Her album name A Frenzied Galaxy has already begun to garner buzz! Whenever he travels to New Olympus, Kit loves staying at The Chateau Nysaeus. A go-to drink for him is a negroni. He also likes rum & cokes, manhattans, beer, dirty martinis, scotch on the rocks, purple crush cocktails, red wine, lemonade margaritas, white wine, as well as champagne. Kithaeron is a recreational user of lotus dust, saying that it boosts his creativity. While in New Olympus he also loves stopping by The Jovial Joker comedy club to check out established & up-and-coming stand up comedians. His favorite dessert is the chocolate souffle from Salon du Sucre. In the pantheon Kithaeron is friends with Matikós (god of performance), Apólafsi (god of enjoyment), Epimetheus (Titan god of afterthought), Lyrikós (Titaness of voice & song), Sponde (goddess of libations), and Mousika (goddess of studying & music). With his own personal endeavors, he's considering starting up his own record label. Kit's already been slated to be one of the judges in the upcoming talent competition show Olympius Got Talent. The show will display a variety of participants who possess some form of talent. Acts range from singing, dancing, comedy, magic, stunts, as well as other genres. He's also an executive producer on the popular singing competition show To Astéri! In his free time he enjoys working on his music, karaoke, going to the cinema, football (soccer), going to the opera, going to museums, and clubbing. Kit's favorite meal is the coq au vin. He eats it often at Le Rêve Gourmand, a popular restaurant in the Chant du Cygne neighborhood of New Olympus.
Nysos lives in Boeotia atop his divine mountain. The doors and window frames are made of granite while the doors itself is petrified wood. The flooring is smooth marble while the bathroom resembles that of a hot spring. The mansion's walls are made up of a mix of various rocks like lava rock, granite, quartz, & diorite. Framed photos of his family are found throughout the mansion with lots of leather furniture. A go-to drink for him is a cup of black tea that he brews himself. Nysos makes a cup of green tea for his wife- an oread named Cisseis (that he calls Cissy for short). He also likes dark roast coffee (which he makes himself), classic martinis, lavender tea, blueberry juice, mineral water, beer, ginger ale, as well as pomegranate juice. Nysos & his wife share four daughters known collectively as The Nysiades. Their names are Nysa, Eriphia, Bromia, and Arsinoe. He's a proud "girl dad." With three of his daughters grown & living on their own, that leaves Arsinoe, who's eleven years old. He and his wife take turns dropping their daughter off at school. He also drops Arsinoe off at her weekend ballet classes. Nysos affectionately calls his eldest daughter "junior" because she was named after him. Nysa is also the only one out of the daughters that resemble Nysos- right down to the intense ice blue eyes & ethereal silver white hair, which flows down to her waist. Whenever he travels to New Olympus (either by himself or with his family), Nysos will typically stay at The Hearthwood Inn- a charming bed & breakfast located on Chaste Tree Court in the Hearthwood neighborhood. He loves the spread that's available for breakfast for the guests in the common dining area- koulouri, loaded yogurt parfaits, fresh fruit, alevropita, buttermilk biscuits, sausage, bacon, toast, pancakes, rizogalo, waffles, and loaded scrambled eggs (added with tomatoes, feta cheese, & black olives). Above all things, family is most important to Nysos. He makes sure to keep in contact with all of his brothers even if they're not available to meet up. He also tries establishing a relationship with members of The Ourea's extended family. Nysos has introduced his wife & daughters to Gaia and has been in contact with Thaumas as well as one of his sister-in-laws, Tethys (Titaness of freshwater & clouds). He even reached out to Rhea (Titaness of fertility, motherhood, & comfort)- inviting her to his family's upcoming Thanksgiving. Even though he considers his role in the Gigantomachy important, there's another role that holds a greater importance in his heart & memory- when Nysos aided his nephew Zeus in "giving birth" to his son Dionysus. He helped Zeus throughout the labors, made the initial incision on the king's thigh, and pulled the tiny screaming newborn godling out by the feet! He was surprised & touched noticing the affection Zeus showered on the child when he placed the godling in the king's arms. Nysos even helped the other oreads look after Dionysus, which is how he was introduced to Cissy, who was one of the wetnurses. A favorite dessert of his is his wife's homemade snowberry ice cream. He and his daughter help out with making it. In the pantheon Nysos is friends with Leto (Titaness of demurity & motherhood), Soteria (goddess of safety), Pathos (god of emotion), Hestia (goddess of the hearth), as well as Ktesios (god of the household). A guilty pleasure for him is the gyro combo meal from Olympic Chef- a lamb gyro with extra tzatziki sauce, large potato wedges, and a large drink (he gets ginger ale with plenty of ice). Nysos and his wife love going out on date nights. They'll typically eat at her favorite sushi restaurant in Boeotia called Zen Umi. He's been a recent convert to the matcha martini which is served there. In his free time Nysos enjoys reading, camping, hiking, mountain climbing, riding dirt bikes, football (soccer), as well as spending time with his family. Nysos' favorite meal is his wife's egg drop soup along with spanokopita.
Out of his brothers, Olympos is the only one who exclusively lives in New Olympus, though he's fond of traveling. His not-so humble abode is a suite apartment in the royal palace atop his divine namesake mountain- Mt. Olympus. The interior design of his suite apartment is "Olympian glamour on steroids." The walls are painted in white gold & Imperial Gold paint while the flooring is Imperial Gold. There's lots of leather and suede furniture along with crystal & Imperial Gold furniture pieces. There are gilded mirrors, ostentatious chandeliers, marbled surfaces in the kitchen & bathroom, as well as a luxuriously sized canopy bed topped with gold and cream hued sheets made of the finest Corinthian mulberry silk & satin. Olympos has an extensive morning routine. He starts off with a shower before applying a 24K gold collagen face mask. While the mask is still on, he uses the Sparkling Smiles white blitz LED tooth whitening system. When it's all done, Olympos is off to an appointment at the Gold Rays tanning salon. He has an animal companion- a dragon named Aurumion. The dragon's coloration is primarily metallic gold with cream markings. He also has white gold crests & claws with cream colored wings. It's said that Aurumion was from the same clutch of eggs as Chrysarion- the dragon belonging to one of Olympos' good friends Aplistos (god of avarice). A go-to drink for him is champagne. He also likes mimosas, vodka martinis, fool's gold cocktails, mojitos, New Olympus Iced Teas, bourbon, whiskey, and a scotch on the rocks. Olympos enjoys listening to electronic, house, rock, & EDM music. He likes frequenting The Luxe, a high end eatery for a quick drink and morning treat. Olympos orders the liquid gold cappuccino (made with 100% coffee beans sourced from Olympia, foamed milk, and blended with a generous portion of edible 24 carat gold). The drink is also sprinkled with gold flakes, topped with a dark chocolate marshmallow, & is served on a white gold china set. He has this along with the Billion Drachma Omelet. The omelet included 14 ounces of Ionian caviar, an entire lobster, six eggs, cream, chives, and lobster sauce- served over a bed of crisp Olympia roasted gold potatoes. The final price tag for these things is a little over 2,000 drachmas. Olympos is tired of not having his own identity- always being seen as part of a set and not as an individual. For that reason alone, he's been trying to break the mold and carve out his own path. Olympos is also embarrassed by the fact that he financially relies on Gaia to fund his lifestyle. A favorite frozen treat of his is champagne sorbet. As a job, Olympos is an established social media influencer with 10 million followers on Fatestagram and nearly double the subscribers on PanopTube. He has more than a dozen brand partnerships including but not limited to Platinum Alchemy, Tis Kólasis, Astra Tempus, iCHOR Tech, monsieur provocateur, and Sharp & Suave. In the pantheon Olympos is also friends with Aisa (goddess of lot & fate), Pseudologos (god of lies), Hybris (goddess of insolence, hubris, & reckless pride), Orthosia (goddess of wealth), Helios (Titan god of the sun), Kéfi (goddess of mirth), and Litismós (goddess of culture). Out of his brothers, Olympos is the only one with the closest relationship to Zeus. He's been hanging out with him more since the queen, Hera (goddess of women & marriage) as well as the two princesses- Eileithyia (Ella) (goddess of childbirth) and Hebe (goddess of youth) moved out of the palace. Much like his nephew, there's never a shortage of women to keep Olympos company. He's had his fair share of hook ups, one night stands, and lotus dust fueled revelries. He doesn't want to be tied down to a single woman or family of his own. The late nights of Olympos walking through the palace & seeing the king as a crumpled mess of tears solidifies his stance. At one point in time he came close to being open to the possibility of a mature monogamous relationship- when he started up an online correspondance with Katharina (one of The Litae).
Olympos just didn't feel a physical attraction. He was stimulated intellectually & emotionally. He already knew that she had a child, Pompe (goddess of rites), so Olympos was already uneasy and anxious about how he would fit into their lives? Would he just be known as mother's "special friend" or would he have a much larger role, as a father figure? When Katharina became transparent about her asexuality, Olympos truly didn't know how to respond. A deep pit of fear settled in his stomach when she suggested that they officially meet face-to-face at the New Olympus Museum of Natural History. Olympos ultimately ghosted her. Even now, there have been times where his heart skipped a beat hearing the Fatestagram notification sound, half hoping it'd be a message from Katharina. In his free time Olympos enjoys clubbing, flying on dragonback, shopping, volleyball, golf, going to the spa, football (soccer), tennis, & surfing. His favorite meal is stuffed lobster tails drenched in a hearty helping of garlic butter.
Oreios lives in the state of Thessaly, far from where his divine mountain once stood, battling the sky for dominance. Before New Olympus, there was Saturn's Hold, the capital of the realm which used to be known as Titanius. Situated on Mt. Othrys was the Black Palace of the Titans- the greatest architectural feat witnessed by any being (until the Palace of Olympians on Mt. Olympus). The Black Palace was obliterated during the Titanomachy whereas the mountain itself had its height greatly reduced during the Gigantomachy. It's some sort of consolation to Oreios that the few surviving remnants of The Black Palace are respectfully archived at the New Olympus Museum of Natural History. He lives in a mansion situated atop Mt. Titanus, located away from Thessaly proper. It's secluded enough to where Oreios feels like there's enough privacy. The mansion is built out of black marble, the window & door frames built out of gabbro, while the doors themselves are built out of obsidian. The roof has a massive dome shaped skylight in the center. The flooring is natural stone- slate. Oreios' self proclaimed "man cave" has leather furniture, various kinds of maps of the three realms as well as several celestial maps covering the walls, ceiling high bookshelves filled with books on varying subjects. There's also his Talos Core gaming system- complete with a collection of video games. Oreios has an animal companion- a dragon named Andromedos. He's a slick nimble beast covered primarily in deep teal scales with shimmering greenish-copper crests and belly scales, dark blue eyes, as well as silver horns. When traveling, Andromedos is Oreios' usual mode of transportation. He's in a new chapter of his life after his marriage to Aigeiros (a dryad) ended. Oreios was the one who filed for divorce and the experience of it had been a contentious one. They share a young adult son Oxylos (demi-god of mountain forests). Unfortunately he hasn't been in contact with his son since the divorce became finalized. All efforts of communication by Oreios to Oxylos have been met with silence. A go-to drink for him is a hot cup of earl grey tea. He also likes green tea, mineral water, scotch on the rocks, dry martinis, cranberry juice, Strengthify zero sugar blueberry lavender water, pomegranate juice, and nojitos (a playful non-alcoholic version of a mojito). Usuals from The Roasted Bean include a large london fog latte along with an olympian sized dark roast coffee- with three sugars. Oreios has a job- teaching computer science at the Telamōn Aerospace Institute, the school founded by Atlas. At the school's grand opening, he gifted his former close friend with a miniature Celestial Bronze astrolabe which he forged himself. Oreios has been hanging out with his brothers more & more since the divorce, especially going on hunting excursions with Parnes. He's also been relying on his close friends in the pantheon like Aion (god of time, eternity, & the zodiacs), Harpocrates, Aegaeon (god of sea storms), as well as Arktos (goddess of the night sky & constellations). Oreios physically last saw his son at his graduation from University where Oxylos obtained a degree in environmental sustainability. He could tell that his son noticed him in the audience (sitting all the way in the back from his ex-wife & her family) as he walked on stage to receive his diploma. Afterwards, Oreios was about to approach Oxylos, but was then told by his son's girlfriend- a dryad named Magnolia that it wouldn't be the best idea. That his ex-wife's brothers were planning on roughing him up. Not wanting to cause any drama during one of his son's most proudest moments, Oreios left. He doesn't like to indulge in sweets too often so when he does, Oreios likes the jumbo peanut butter cookie from Hollyhock's Bakery. There's also a small bakery near where he lives where he gets a plate of baked feta topped with honey & thyme. Oreios has been trying to re-introduce some sort of normalcy back into his life, like dating.
Oreios had a short term relationship with Ogygia (one of The Nesoi) whom he dated for a month. There have been times where he's wondered if there could be something more between himself & Arktos, but he doesn't pursue it, not wanting to ruin their friendship. Oreios came close to kissing her when they were having a mountaintop picnic. In his free time Oreios enjoys playing video games, mountain climbing, hiking, swimming, flying on dragonback, going to museums, and reading. A good chunk of his time also goes towards checking out his son's Fatestagram page. His favorite meal is keftedes with salt and vinegar steak fries.
Tmolus splits his time between his home state of Lydia & the city of New Olympus. He primarily lives atop his divine mountain in a mansion that's built out of marble and quartzite. The interior design is very classic with granite flooring, leather furniture, & blue obsidian countertops. The walls are covered in framed photographs Tmolus has shot as well as landscape paintings he's done. Ceiling high shelves holds his book and vinyl record collection. In New Olympus, Tmolus has an apartment in Bolt Towers, located in the Skyline neighborhood. A go-to drink for him is a hot cup of ginger tea. He also likes mineral water, aloe vera juice, manhattans, pomegranate juice, mint juleps, orange juice, and bloody marys. Usuals from The Roasted Bean include an americano, a cafe au lait, & an olympian sized iced tea. He'll typically start out the day with a three mile run, his iCHOR Tech wireless earbuds secured safely in his ears, listening to music. Tmolus loves going out to karaoke- especially when Helicon and Kithaeron tags along. A notable moment in his godly career was when he was the deciding factor of a musical show-off between Apollo & Pan. As a job at home, Tmolus teaches landscape painting class at the Lydia Art Museum in Sardis, the state's capital. He's also been slated as one of the judges for the upcoming talent competition show Olympius Got Talent, where he also serves as an executive producer. Tmolus will also sometimes serve as a docent at the New Olympus Museum of Modern Art (NOMMA). Because Tmolus is vegetarian, he feels there's a kindredness with Helicon (who's vegan) since the rest of his brothers don't take his diet seriously either. Tmolus loves the green goddess salad with extra dressing from The Bread Box along with the vegetarian gyro combo from Olympic Chef (he gets it with large sweet potato fries & an iced tea). In the pantheon he's friends with Favian (god of philosophy), Neicus (god of debate & appeal), Eikono (goddess of iconography & literature), and Mnemosyne (Titaness of memory & language). In his free time Tmolus enjoys reading, painting, going to museums, sculpting, pottery, going to the cinema, and ballroom dancing. His favorite meal is avocado fettuccine pasta topped with extra grated pecorino cheese. Tmolus is dating casually, his last hookup being with Hesychia (goddess of quiet, stillness, rest, & silence).
Parnes lives in a simple cabin house (which he built himself) near his divine mountain. He also owns an RV that he stays in when traveling. The doors are petrified wood while the interior design is basic & bare with leather and wood furniture as well as various animal pelts & taxidermied animal heads mounted on the walls. He starts out his day with a big bowl of Earthly Harvest raisin crunch cereal before going out on a run with his three pet bloodhounds- boys named Diesel, Brutus, & Rogue. Out of all the brothers, Parnes is the most physically and emotionally distant. He often does target practice, obliterating pictures of Gaia with bullets. Afterwards, he'll smoke a cigar. He enjoys drinking dark roast coffee, bourbon, whiskey, & beer. In the pantheon Parnes is close friends with Lelantos (Lantos) (Titan god of air, the unseen, & hunting), Auge (goddess of first daylight), Anytos (Titan god of anonymity & secrets), and Homadus (god of the battle-din). When he ventures out-of-state to New Olympus, Parnes likes the 10 piece bucket of crispy fried chicken from Olympic Chef. There's a certain momentary calmness he feels after a rainstorm. He also likes the steak sandwich from The Bread Box. He'll also check out a wrestling match at Acropolis Square Garden. In his free time Parnes enjoys hiking, mountain climbing, hunting, archery, canoeing, basketball, swimming, reading, and wood carving. His favorite meal is the thick & hearty venison stew he makes. A favorite frozen treat of his is oatmeal raisin ice cream. He buys a few pints from the supermarket. Parnes currently has a casual no-strings attached "relationship" with an oread named Moraia, a single mother with six kids. The only time they can ever be vulnerable with each other is when they make love.
“It’s not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves.”

It's kinda weird to see how nowdays every owl is associated with Athena, when Ares has two sacred owls as well:
Antoninus Liberalis, Metamorphoses 21 (trans. Celoria) (Greek mythographer C2nd A.D.) : "Zeus loathed them [the giants Agrios and Oreios] and sent Hermes to punish them . . Oreios became an eagle owl, a bird that presages little good to anyone when it appears."

hey btw im trying to figure out where the whole "ares birds are vultures" and i was wondering if you knew. i found sources saying his bird is woodpeckers but not vultures
Good question, the source of them being sacred to Ares was when he changed one of his great grandsons into on after his granddaughter was cursed into doing the nasty with a bear by Aphrodite...I imagine that was a REALLY AWKWARD talk afterwards.
I. BARN OWL (Greek aigolios), EAGLE-OWL (Greek buas), VULTURE (Greek gups), WOODPECKER (Greek ipne)
Antoninus Liberalis, Metamorphoses 21 (trans. Celoria) (Greek mythographer C2nd A.D.) : "Zeus loathed them [the giants Agrios and Oreios] and sent Hermes to punish them . .
