the op of that "you should restart your computer every few days" post blocked me so i'm going to perform the full hater move of writing my own post to explain why he's wrong

why should you listen to me: took operating system design and a "how to go from transistors to a pipelined CPU" class in college, i have several servers (one physical, four virtual) that i maintain, i use nixos which is the linux distribution for people who are even bigger fucking nerds about computers than the typical linux user. i also ran this past the other people i know that are similarly tech competent and they also agreed OP is wrong (haven't run this post by them but nothing i say here is controversial).

anyway the tl;dr here is:

you don't need to shut down or restart your computer unless something is wrong or you need to install updates

i think this misconception that restarting is necessary comes from the fact that restarting often fixes problems, and so people think that the problems are because of the not restarting. this is, generally, not true. in most cases there's some specific program (or part of the operating system) that's gotten into a bad state, and restarting that one program would fix it. but restarting is easier since you don't have to identify specifically what's gone wrong. the most common problem i can think of that wouldn't fall under this category is your graphics card drivers fucking up; that's not something you can easily reinitialize without restarting the entire OS.

this isn't saying that restarting is a bad step; if you don't want to bother trying to figure out the problem, it's not a bad first go. personally, if something goes wrong i like to try to solve it without a restart, but i also know way, way more about computers than most people.

as more evidence to point to this, i would point out that servers are typically not restarted unless there's a specific need. this is not because they run special operating systems or have special parts; people can and do run servers using commodity consumer hardware, and while linux is much more common in the server world, it doesn't have any special features to make it more capable of long operation. my server with the longest uptime is 9 months, and i'd have one with even more uptime than that if i hadn't fucked it up so bad two months ago i had to restore from a full disk backup. the laptop i'm typing this on has about a month of uptime (including time spent in sleep mode). i've had servers with uptimes measuring in years.

there's also a lot of people that think that the parts being at an elevated temperature just from running is harmful. this is also, in general, not true. i'd be worried about running it at 100% full blast CPU/GPU for months on end, but nobody reading this post is doing that.

the other reason i see a lot is energy use. the typical energy use of a computer not doing anything is like... 20-30 watts. this is about two or three lightbulbs worth. that's not nothing, but it's not a lot to be concerned over. in terms of monetary cost, that's maybe $10 on your power bill. if it's in sleep mode it's even less, and if it's in full-blown hibernation mode it's literally zero.

there are also people in the replies to that post giving reasons. all of them are false.

temporary files generally don't use enough disk space to be worth worrying about

programs that leak memory return it all to the OS when they're closed, so it's enough to just close the program itself. and the OS generally doesn't leak memory.

'clearing your RAM' is not a thing you need to do. neither is resetting your registry values.

your computer can absolutely use disk space from deleted files without a restart. i've taken a server that was almost completely full, deleted a bunch of unnecessary files, and it continued fine without a restart.

One thing I noticed talking about Linux and free software is that a lot of people seem afraid of learning things about technology. I constantly read things like "I hate windows, but switching to linux would mean learning a new OS, and you have to be some super-smart programmer-hacker to do that." Or even: "Switching to firefox would mean switching browsers and I don't know how"

And that is precisely the attitude tech companies like Microsoft and Apple try to instill in their users in order to control them. They create these simple and “friendly” user interfaces for their products, but these hide information. From their OS being pre-installed to their settings apps, they keep people from learning things about how their computer works, and letting the companies make the decisions for their users.

I think people are underestimating themselves and overestimating how hard it is to learn new things are. It is like Windows/Macos have taught them some kind of technological learned helplessness. Not knowing how computers work and being afraid to learn how is how companies like Microsoft controls you, and justifies that control.

For example, people hate the forced and automatic system updates on Windows. And Microsoft justifies it as necessary because some people don’t know that their computer needs security updates and therefore don’t update, so they have to force the updates on them. That’s definitely true, and Microsoft’s tech support people is definitely very aware of that but it is a operating system that presumes that the user is incompetent and therefore shouldn’t control their own computer. And of course Microsoft abuses that power to force privacy-invading features on their users. Windows updates are also badly designed in comparison, no Linux distro I’ve used required the update program to hijack the entire computer, preventing the user from doing other things, but Windows does.

This is the dark side of “user-friendly” design. By requiring zero knowledge and zero responsibility for the user, they also take control away from the user. User-friendly graphical user interfaces (GUI) can also hide the inner workings of a system in comparison to the command line, which enables more precise control of your computer and give you more knowledge about what it is doing.

Even GUIs are not all made equal in regards to this, as the comparison between the Windows Control panel and their newer Settings app demonstrates. As I complained about before, Windows have hidden away the powerful, but complex Control Panel in favor of the slicker-looking but simplified and less powerful Settings app for over a decade now.

Of course this is a sliding scale, and there is a sensible middle-ground between using the command line for everything and user-friendly design masking taking control away from the end user.

There are Linux distros like Linux Mint and MX Linux who have created their own GUI apps for tasks that would otherwise use the command line, without taking control away from the user. This is mainly because they are open source non-profit community-driven distros, instead of being proprietary OSes made by profit-driven megacorps.

Still, giving that control to the user presumes some knowledge and responsibility on part of the user. To return to the update example, by default both Mint and MX will search and notify you of available updates, but you will have to take the decision to download and install them. Automatic updates are available in both cases, but it’s opt-in, you have to enable that option yourself. And that approach presumes that you know that you should update your system to plug security holes, something not all people do. It gives you control because it presumes you have knowledge and can take responsibility for those decisions.

All this also applies to the underlying fact that practically all pre-built computers nowadays have an operating system pre-installed. Few people install an OS themselves nowadays, instead they use whatever came with the computer. It’s usually either Windows or MacOS for desktops/laptops, and Android/IOS for smartphones (which are also a type of computer).

Now all this is very convenient and user-friendly, since it means you don’t have to learn how to install your own operating system. The OEM takes care of that for you. But again, this is a convenience that takes choice away from you. If you don’t learn how to install your own OS, you are stuck with whatever that is on the computer you bought. It’s probably precisely this step that scares people away from Linux, few people have installed even Windows, and installing your own OS seems impossibly scary. But again, learning is the only way to take back control. If you learn how to install an OS off an USB stick, you now have choices in what OS to use. (Sidenote: the hard part IMO is not the actual install process, but fiddling with the BIOS so it will actually boot from the distro on the USB stick. This old comic strip illustrates this very well).

That’s how life is in general, not just computers. Having control over your life means making decisions based on your own judgment. And to make sensible, rational decisions, you have to learn things, acquire knowledge.

The only other alternative is letting others take those decisions for you. You don’t have to learn anything, but you have no control. And in the tech world, that means big corporations like Microsoft, Google and Apple will make those decisions, and they are motivated by their own profits, not your well-being.

Computers have only become more and more capable and more important in our lives, and that can enable wonderful things. But it also means more power to the tech companies, more power over our lives. And the only way to resist that is to learn about computers, to enable us to make our own decisions about how we use technology.

I don’t know if this is genuine or sarcastic, so I’m just going to say this:

I don’t claim to know anything about media literacy. What I do understand is intricate plot and telling a compelling story. I also understand that from the end of 806, I said almost immediately “I feel manipulated”. This has deep personal connotations for me, but the point remains, and because of those personal relations, I get an actual “ick” about feeling manipulated. Now again, I have zero clarity one way or the other as to whether the manipulation is based out of them actually fucking this storyline up or if it’s because of the way they’re trying to pitch it to us as an “exit” and “ending”. Either way, that hasn’t left me.

All I know at the end of the day is that if these people don’t understand how to recover from this decision, they don’t belong in writing television. There’s also the point that I’ve made this week, that this is not the first time TM & Co have done something like this. They’ve done it with Madney. They’ve done it with Tarlos. We’ve even seen it to some degree with Bathena. What set us all off was the interviews, which we’ve all stated from day one were …odd. The thing that stays with me though, is the fact that not once has any one of these interviews stated “Tommy Kinard is gone for good”. I’ve read dozens of exit interviews (said this too earlier this week), and the only people CALLING it an exit interview, are the interviewers. Lou said the arc was over. By the very definition of what needs to be shared and said between BuckTommy for the reconciliation, he’s right. They’ve spanned the first arc of their relationship. Further, another thing that sticks out in my mind is his statement towards how he wouldn’t turn down playing Tommy again because, to his knowledge, there’s nothing else similar to their relationship happening on television. Which is SO important for representation. I also keep thinking about his tweet “keep the hope alive”. Obviously that can be read as he just wants more work… or it can be read as, there’s more coming, don’t give up on them yet.

Above all else, it’s the crowd reaction. We know the “other team” thinks this is all to tee them up into their pairing, and here’s my response to that:

One, it’s not. Because we know that’s now what TPTB want. But two, if it is, I hope they’re prepared for the mass exodus that takes place when all the people who DON’T want that pairing stop watching. And of course, those who do but don’t get the version of it that they want because RG and OS don’t want to play it the way the fandom thinks it should.

I’m not above saying that if they made them canon, I don’t think I’d stick around. It doesn’t serve the story, it spits in the face of what RG has been trying to communicate for years about himself and Hispanic men in general, and especially on the heels of this, it would feel dirty.

Anyway, I rambled on on this far longer than I meant to. Oops!

And then you're back to hiring humans instead of a morally acceptable slave brain in a box.

So…here’s the thing.

I know I’ve been keeping everything under closed doors lately, but as I’ve started to drift into other non-selfship activities, I’ve been thinking a lot about my past in the selfship/fictolove communities. I’ve been thinking about what I’ve done, what I accomplished, what I experienced, what I failed to do, and most importantly, my future in it.

And after long and careful consideration, I have formally decided to completely move on from the selfship/fictolove community. I will still be a selfshipper in private, but I will never again interact with it in any way.

Truthfully, I won’t deny that I did some pretty bad things during my 8.5 years in it. But I have had some awful things happen to me as well, even in times where I felt like I didn’t deserve it.

IDK, maybe I just have absolute shit luck when it comes to the community. Or, there’s a still-standing stigma against people such as myself that has been there since I first joined. A stigma against people who ship themselves with anthro characters.

And trying to eliminate this stigma myself has been a major source of my problems. Hell, I created an entire server just for people like me, only for it to eventually lose its purpose and for me to be exiled from it. I can’t believe that I just poured my heart and soul into trying to make a change, only for it to mean nothing, and zero things have changed in those 8.5 years.

I wanted to try again, over and over. I wanted to have hope, that there was some other thing I could try. But lately, I’ve been thinking. I’ve been through a total of 4 traumatic experiences in this community, as well as 4 straight months of the worst depressive episode in my entire life after the last one. I’ve sacrificed so much for a passionate cause, and nobody has learned their lesson. Is it really worth it to continue, and perhaps spend another 8.5 years battling even more trauma, just to end up back at square one again?

The selfship/fictolove community has a ton of problems, and I believe that a lot of y’all agree. But this one problem I’ve faced for so long has made it pretty much impossible for me to play an active part in it. And, based on the results, it is very clear that I do not have the experience, expertise, or ability to change this. As a result, I cannot continue with this community any longer. I’ve done all I could, and it still wasn’t enough.

This is a problem I cannot solve on my own. This is something that another person, or a group of people, or the entire community needs to solve. But until then, I cannot continue.

I’m still a selfshipper, before you ask, but all of my F/Os are private now, and can only be revealed by looking at my past posts. I will still be friends and mutuals with selfshippers, but I will not be actively searching for new friends in the community. And I will try not interact with any selfshipping posts as best as I can.

I can’t believe that a community that revolves around something I was once so passionate about has brought to me the most damaging traumatic experiences of my entire life. But I guess that’s just the way the world works…

To close, if y’all followed me primarily for selfshipping stuff, I sincerely apologize. I may start posting semi-regularly again, just not with any selfshipping. I want to move on, I want to be through with this, I want no more pain. And I think this is the best possible option moving forward.

hellooo, fellow bucktommy shipper (and casual b*ddie enjoyer, if it weren't for the horrors...) here! i really liked your take on b*ddie st*ns and how they are now making super wild assumptions based on some latest interviews.

you know one thing that irks me? somehow nobody seems to talk about is the fact that in canon, buck isn't written to be in love with eddie at all. like, can we please talk about this??? because I'm all for Death Of The Author. OS can talk about ships all he wants but in the end, only the canon narrative matters to me personally. i've watched long-form content with endgame couples being set up in the pilot episodes who become canon many seasons later (bones, castle, grey's anatomy, the mentalist, etc.), and the entire point of such couples is to establish that, yes, they have been having romantic feelings all this time since day one. they do so very very obviously. there is zero subtlety or room for questioning.

one of the most common tropes is to give one or both characters (of the endgame couple) another love interest so that the endgame couple can be full of jealousy and pettiness every time that other love interest is mentioned or shown. having another love interests always endangers the original closeness of the endgame couple, and then the breakup propels the endgame couple forward in their relationship. the love interest is always used for comparisons, to make it abundantly clear that everybody else is lacking in some way. at no point in 911 did they do so with buck and eddie??? these dudes go through various romantic relationships, and never ever has it been any issue to the b*ddie dynamic. never was it talked about. never were hints dropped that one of them is jealous. even now, with bucktommy, eddie shows not a single ounce of jealously. on the other side, look at how they showed us buck being obviously jealous because eddie monopolized tommy's time even though buck wanted tommy time himself! buck couldn't stand the jealousy even a little bit, and he ended up literally hurting his bestie because of it. but whenever eddie is involved romantically and sexually with someone, there are zero signs that buck is bothered or threatened or jealous. they both seem super chill? they do not question at any point that them dating other people might hurt their relationship? logically, that must mean buck's never wanted to be romantically or sexually involved with eddie (and vice versa). at it's core, b*ddie has been written as a friendship. to this day, we have no canon proof for anything else.

i would not hate b*ddie to happen or anything. i do enjoy b*ddie fics (those that aren't super misogynist ♥). and i think it could be a great couple if done well! but as you said, even when buck thought eddie was hot... well, so what? that's literally just an objective observation. RG is handsome based on societal standards. chim and hen also immediately acknowledged that eddie was hot in 2x01, and both of them are Not At All romantically or sexually attracted to eddie either. nobody is questioning chim's or hen's sexuality based on the comments they made about eddie being hot. because nothing about this equals real romantic feelings or the desire to be in a relationship. the fandom understands that logic just fine with chim and hen. why not with buck, though? also, we have yet to see a reversed moment for eddie staring at buck and finding him hot. they had no problem to show eddie Immediately having a crush on ana flores when he first met her. this shows that eddie feels sexual attraction just fine. he was, however, never shown in canon to feel it for buck.

also interesting: even though buck found eddie hot when they first met, it did not trigger buck to seriously question his sexuality at any point in the past like, 5 years or so. in all those years of canon b*ddie friendship, the show has never used the plethora of opportunities to propel b*ddie into romantic or sexual territory. the show could have! but the show never did, so i refuse to let b*ddie st*ns or OS retcon this. if it's not in the canon material, it isn't canon. with tommy, it took only a couple of weeks and a handful of interactions for buck to reach a point of clarity about his sexuality. the most logical deduction imo is that buck simply clocked that eddie's hot (like everybody else, duh, he isn't special in that regard), and it's never meant anything deep.

my only real probem with this entire situation is how hardcore b*ddie st*ns are now using this as a justification to harass others even more (especially bucktommy shippers). i'd love to enjoy canon bucktommy and fanon b*ddie in peace! but the hate that b*ddie st*ns are spreading everywhere again (like with every new season and newly introduced love interest) is so overwhelming.

Discourse like this is what takes away the enjoyment of media for me. It sucks that fandom experience can have two very extreme opposing sides, specially when it comes to two “competing” ships. You can kinda tell by how bucktommy shippers behave (I’m not trying to flex at all because I am one. A good majority of us has zero problem with b*ddie endgame even though we prefer the other. We like what we are getting and are happy to see this storyline play out) compared to b*ddie shippers (of course not all of them, I’m talking about the entitled ones. That clog comment sections, bother actors, go to the other ships tag to complain about it and say how their preferred ship is better, etc).

Im not immune to bad takes and bad fan behavior. Ive surely acted like these stans in other fandoms and i do regret it, so i hate seeing it happen again and again, no matter where i go.

All that being said, whichever ship “wins”, it’s no one’s call but the writers and producers of the show. Hello it's me with another very naive computer question!

One of the really common complaints you see about modern software (from Adobe, Microsoft, etc.) is the move from the single-purchase model to a subscription-based model. While I understand that people are upset about paying more money over time, this also feels like the only viable option for shipping products that work with modern OSes, especially Windows (I don't have any experience with MacOS). Windows pretty regularly updates, and if you want your product to continue to work, you have to continue paying your engineers to maintain compatibility through time.

Obviously I understand that there are lots of FOSS options out there, but for the companies that are built on making money from these sorts of software products, I don't see another way. Am I way off the mark here?

This is a really good question. I don't have a great answer, but the model I have in my head is that "traditional software distribution" is partially an artifact of an era where companies were starting to use computers but internet use was still spotty so providing support for software was just a very different ballgame. A lot of what I'm saying here is not like. Fact as much as it is my understanding of The Software Business from the side of someone who is a little involved in that but mostly not in that.

(This is mostly about "business software", that is to say, accounting packages, creative suites, design packages, modelling tools, etc. This model does not explain like. Spotify. But that's much easier to explain.)

You're not wrong that the subscription model really make sense given modern software development, where patches come out continuously and you get upgraded to the latest version every time something changes, but there has been a significant change in how software is developed and sold that makes it noticeably different. I think that the cause of this is mostly because it's finally practical to do contract-style deals with hundreds of thousands of customers instead of doing one-off sales like we used to do.

In the Traditional model you charge a pretty sizeable upfront cost for a specific version of the software, you buy Windows XP or Jasc Paint Shop 7 or whatever and then you get That Version until we release The Next Version, plus a couple years of security and support. When the next version hits, we stop adding any new features to your version, and when that hits end of life, you maybe get offered a discount to buy licensing for the latest version, or you drop out of support.

Traditional software with robust support typically costs an awful lot, Photoshop CS2 was $600 new in 2005, or $150 to upgrade from CS, because you're paying for support and engineering time in advance. A current subscription for just Photoshop is $20/mo, and that's after twenty years of inflation. Photoshop is also cheap, a seat for something like SolidWorks 2003 could probably have run you $3000-4000 easy. I can't even give you a better guess there because SolidWorks still doesn't sell single commercial licenses online, you have to talk to their salespeople.

The interesting thing to me about Traditional pricing was that I think it was typically offered to medium to small businesses or individuals, because it's an easy way to sell to smaller customers, especially if it's the 90's and you're maybe selling your software through an intermediary reseller who works with local businesses or just a store shelf.

Independent software resellers were a big business back in the day, they served as a go-between for the software company and smaller businesses, they sold prepared packages in a few sizes and handled the personal relationship of phoning you up and saying "Hey there's a patch for your accounting software so that it doesn't crash when someone's surname is Zero, we'll send you a floppy disk in the mail with some instructions on how to install it." Versioned standard releases are a thing you can put in a box and give to resellers along with a spec sheet and sales talking points. This business still exists but it's much smaller than it once was, it's largely gone upmarket.

If you were bigger, say, if you were a publishing house that needed fifty seats of editing software you'd probably call the sales department of Jasc or whoever and get a volume deal along with a support contract.

Nowadays why would you bother going through resellers and making this whole complicated pricing model when you could just sell subscriptions with well-established e-commerce tools. You can make contract support deals with individuals at scale, all online, without hiring thousands of salespeople. You can even provide varying support levels at multiple cost brackets directly, so you don't need to cultivate a direct business relationship with all your customers in order to meet their needs. Your salespeople handle the really big megacorp and government deals and you let everyone else administer themselves.

It also makes development easier. You can also deploy patches over the net, you just do it in software. You can obsolete older versions faster, since you can make sure most people are using the latest version, and significantly cut down on engineering time spent backporting fixes to older versions. I think a lot of this is straightforwardly desirable on most software.

Now, there are still packages sold by the version, and there are even companies selling eternal licenses.

Fruity Loops Studio is still a "Buy once forever" type deal.

MatLab can be purchased as a subscription or as a perpetual one-version license.

Windows is still sold like this, but also direct to customer sales of Windows are minimal, Windows is primarily sold to OEM's who preinstall it on everything.

But it's a dying breed, your bigger customers are going to want current support and while there are industries where people want to hang around on older versions, for a lot of software your customer wants the latest thing with all the features and patches, and they'd rather hold on to their money until later using a subscription rather than spend it all upfront. Businesses love subscriptions, they make accounts books balance well, they're the opposite of debt.

Personal/private users who might just want the features of Photoshop CS2 and that's fine forever don't matter to you. They're not your major customers. This kind of person is not a person who your business cares to service, so you don't really care if you annoy them.

Even in the Open Source business world, subscriptions are how the money is made, just on support rather than for the software itself. You can jump through relatively few hoops to run Ubuntu Enterprise or SUSE Enterprise Linux on your own systems for free, but really there's not much benefit to that unless you pay for the dedicated support subscription.

In many ways I think a lot of things have changed in this way, I have a whole thing about the way medium-scale industrial manufacturing has changed in the past thirty years somewhere around here.

While there are valid reasons you might want to buy a single snapshot of some software and run that forever, the reality is that that's a pretty rare desire, or at least that desire is rarely backed by money. If you want to do that you either need access to the source code so that you can maintain it yourself, or you need to strike a deal with someone who will, or it needs to be software so limited that it (and the system it runs on!) never need updates. Very few useful programs are this simple. As a result subscription models make sense, but until recently you couldn't really sell a subscription to small businesses and individuals. Changes in e-commerce and banking have enabled such contracts to be made, and hey presto, it's subscription world.

Hey!! I was actually looking to clear this up! There's actually a bit of a funny story between the reason why Leland and Mater are both listed and platonics and secondary romantic F/Os, I suppose I just never got around to explaining it or thought that anyone would properly pick up on it😅(Though I have had it recently pointed out to me by a friend).

So, with Mater, it's a bit funnier cause I'm not even entirely sure. Do I think he would make an awesome friend and I want to hang out with him? Yes. Would I mind doing things that I consider romantic gestures with him like kissing or holding his hand? No, I wouldn't mind I'd totally also do that. Is this queerplatonic? I don't know. Is this romantic? I don't know. Normally with my romantic F/Os I'm not like "They'd make a super cool awesome friend to have and I would also kiss them", normally it'd "Uh oh I've caught feelings." So this could just entirely be romantic but I'm too dumb to figure it out.

With Leland it is slightly a bit more complex. Now he mostly takes on the role of being a best friend and on this blog I mostly just talk about him in the scenario of him being Finn's best friend and being a pain in the ass(affectionately) to the both of us. But BEFORE that, a whiles ago I actually did consider him fully romantic, and I'd think about all that stuff with him. But as I slowly got out of denial with Finn and got closer to "Maybe I would have zero shot of a chance with Finn but I can pretend otherwise in my head" I sort of split off a seperate AU of where I would think about Finn, and Leland would take on the role of just being platonic, because Finn and Leland are just too good of buddies in my head for me to tear them apart. And as I focused more and more on that, that part of my relationship with Leland grew more.

I don't know if I've ever shared this here or to what extent, but all my stories with my F/Os are all slightly different AUs/timelines/whatever the proper term would be here. The one where I end up with Lightning is a separate one than the one where I end up with Chick or Jackson, Francesco, etc. In the same way, my story with Axlerod is different thank my one with Grem and Acer, however in my one with Axlerod, Grem and Acer still play a role because they are involved with Axlerod, it just isn't as heavy and isn't really focused on the romantic aspect there. Same similar thing with Leland. I had a seperate story with Leland, but in my story with Finn he still played a role there because he's connected to Finn. As my focus on Finn grew more and I thought about Finn really heavily, Leland's relationship to me, the focus shifted a lot more on just him being a friend/best friend.

But I still don't think I'd be comfortable seeing other people that romantically also like Leland(If those other people even exist) so I still have him there. Plus once in a blue moon on cloudy nights I still get thoughts of him.

Alright, here's what I have so far for "Titanfall 3: No Time to Fall" (deeply unserious title). I barely have an act together for a story so I'm gonna reblog this a bunch of times with new additions. Don't be surprised at any lore contradictions with Apex Legends; I don't play the game or follow the story.

So we start off just, like, a few months after Titanfall 2. Jack Cooper is flying high from the Fold Weapon fiasco and has joined the 6-4 alongside Bear, Gates, Droz, and Davis. The chemistry is delightful; Cooper has developed the confidence to fit right in with the team, and you get a great re-introduction to the setting with a high energy mission against an IMC station (could be in space maybe? Movement system may not be great to start in zero G). The 6-4 is, as always, wonderful. You get re-acquainted with the wall-run movement style of the series.

The 6-4 shreds through the base and finds some important IMC files, but Cooper searches for stuff irrelevant to the mission, and manages to get ahold of a lead on how to track down Kuben Blisk, leader of the Apex Predators. This is still only a couple months after Typhon's donation, and that means Cooper is set on taking down the man he sees as responsible for the death of both Lastimosa and BT. He manages to get the information, but Gates catches him at the last moment, and he plays it off. Before she can press, they get an alert from Bear that enemy Titanfalls have been detected.

The team calls in their various Titans, with kits both carried over from the previous games and entirely new to the sequel. When Cooper calls down his Titan, it is revealed that he has been paired with FS-1041, the Vanguard Titan originally intended to be his once Cooper had finished training under Lastimosa. Immediately, something is not right; FS's vocalisations are sterile in a way far beyond BT's had ever been. He does not make conversation, he does not make informative callouts, and Cooper is audibly frustrated with the situation.

Davis remarks on it with empathy; he too had a strong rapport with a former Titan. Lore is dropped that Titans with incredibly Smart AI like BT had already been rare and expensive this far into the war. Many Pilots, like Anderson, Bear, and (very importantly) Gates, had only ever piloted standard OS AI in their Titans. Lastimosa had been an acceptional dual-tactic Pilot and was deemed valuable enough to merit BT. Most other Smart AI are either present on ships, in charge of infrastructure. MOB-1316, Sarah Briggs' Titan, is one if these, and Cooper makes a snide comment wishing she'd let him switch.

Once the fight is over, the 6-4 returns to the current Militia flagship, the MCS Typhon's Memory. Gates attempts to corner Cooper about his vendetta against Kuben Blisk, but Bear interrupts and has a heart to heart with Cooper. Bear goes on to explain that the war has been hard on all of them. It is revealed that the Militia victory at Typhon was important but not without cost. The current goal of the Militia has become the capture, trial, and sentencing of General Marder, a campaign that has encountered multiple frustrating setbacks. Bear expressed sympathy toward Cooper's grieving, but emphasized the important of having everyone in the same page. He finishes his words with "we'll get him one day, I promise."

Cooper looks at his helmet before setting it on a table and falling into his cot. The helmet's visor blinks in accordance with the post-credits ending of Titanfall 2.

• I already mentioned this on my twitter, but his pendant from his first outfit (OS-Chronicles) was originally his late father’s 🥲

•His parents passed when he was about 3 years old. He has vague memories of his parents, but knew that they loved him :(

• His maternal grandparents live in Johto! He didn’t really get to see them in person for the first time until he journeyed to the region. The reason why is because his grandparents don’t like to travel and they are EXTREMELY old school so they don’t have rotom phones/video phones.

•His sister, Daisy is a Pokémon breeder in Paldea! She used to be a coordinator but wanted to take a different path after traveling a few regions. She now likes to style pokemon for contests :)

• Gary ends up doing online college for his Bachelor/Masters degree so that he can stay with Ash.

• His father passes when he was about 4 1/2 years old. Gary, knowing the feeling of losing a parent, comforts his during this time. (note: i know the canon AU implies that is dad is living. I’m basing the hcs off of the regular canon)

• one of his earliest memories with his dad is watching one of the Pokemon league competitions on TV

•pretty sure i mentioned this on twitter as well but, Ash eventually gets tired of the monotony of being a defending world champion, which leads into his existential crisis at the age of 14

Profic Party; Week One @profiction-edits

As always with cool daily prompt games I just end up doing a big batch of them at once and then collapsing fgdjhgjdf So!! Here's all my Profic Party prompts for Week One all together now sense I have a lot going on over the weekend

If you wanna see me talk about all my answers, that'll be under the cut. These were fun! Here's hoping I can keep the motivation through Week 2!!

Day 1: OTP - Easiest one of the lot my all time OTP is and forever will be Mariocest. Hooked on the brothers for life. First ship forever imprinted on me.

Day 2: Favorite Character - A man I do not gush of often but that's because his media fandom is literally two people, Hero Nightfall from the Hell's Library book series. He is Bisexual, he is Polyamourus, he is snarky, he never lies, and I adore him.

Day 3: Most Problematic Ship - First one to stump me, for a while it was between AFO/Yoichi from MHA and Wittecest from TOH. Then I realized I couldn't draw AFO to save my life, so I was going to draw all my Belos ships to make up for it... But turns out I can't draw Belos either kdfjgkdf So you get Huntlos cause I drew it first, and Bellector but Belos is a child cause that was easier to draw. Just assume Wittecest is there as well. (William Afton/Cassidy could also probably go here but I'm not hardcore about it so..)

Day 4: Rare Pair - My stipulations for this one was it can't just be a ship for one of my tiny fandoms that no one's in, it had to be a ship from a popular media no one else liked that I was insane about. Which is a very small list. I eventually decided on Maximilien/Mauga from Overwatch because I was feral for them for about half a month. The Sub Pathetic Sugar Daddy X Dom Batshit Sugar Baby really got to me. Commit all the atrocities you want bby daddy's got the police chief on speed dial <3

Day 5: Crossover Ship - I'm not a crossover ship kinda guy. It's unfortunate but it's true. My only actual Crossover ship is my own comfort polycule Selfship; The Ideal Polycule. They helped me get over my Eating Disorder and they're probably what once could consider Main F/Os. I love them so much and they love me and eachother <3

Day 6: Polyship - I have so many of these you have no idea how difficult this was for me I love Polyamoury it brings me great comfort every ship can be made better with more people- Anyway. I decided on a Big Time fave of mine; Ojimonoshin aka The ABC Polycule from My Hero Academia. Fun little Bonus challange I did was I decided to only use a Fandom per prompt so I could show a lot of my Fandoms, so the fact that I couldn't draw AFO for Most Problematic made this choice more difficult fdgkjhgjdf

Day 7: Character from media you're not interested in - My boyfriend has fallen hard into the One Piece rabbit hole so I'm getting a lot of second hand knowledge about the series, and while I have zero interest in watching it, Usopp the beautiful Transfem is really testing my resolve. I also like Law, Bepo, Kuma, and Vegapunk. And of course my Blorbo-In-Law, Sanji Vinesmoke. Pushing him down the stairs and stealing his Boygirlfriend Usopp for myself <3

Huawei is pulling no punches in its race to manufacture a new generation of processors. Huawei has collaborated with SMIC – China’s largest semiconductor foundry – to apply Deep Ultraviolet Lithography (DUV) on what was previously only possible on EUV (Extreme Ultra-Violet technology). Once again, Huawei and SMIC defied the proverbial American “experts” with creative engineering solutions.

Huawei arrived at fabricating 5nm chips with DUV even as the process is more expensive than with EUV. If Huawei had access to EUV they would be already manufacturing 2-3nm chips. That will come, in short time, as both China and Russia, under permanent US high-tech blockade, must by all means develop their own EUV technology.

Shanghai geeks are convinced that Huawei will switch on 6G networksbefore the end of the decade. Their current breathless drive is not just aimed at the smartphone front – where Huawei is peerless; the new Huawei Mate 70 Pro + is by far the absolute top smartphone in the world, running on Harmony OS. Huawei is looking at cloud computing, AI and enterprise servers – and to become no less than the core player in the AI infrastructure race.

Ditching Any Reliance on American Technology

Earlier this month, Huawei introduced the CloudMatrix 384, a system connecting 384 Ascend 910C chips. The tech word in Shanghai is that this configuration, under certain conditions, and of course consuming much more power, already outperforms Nvidia’s flagship rack system – which is powered by 72 Blackwell chips.
