Ossian Skarsgård is going to be in a new Swedish Christmas show on SVT
“Trolltider" back as this year's Christmas calendar in SVT
"Sune's Christmas meets The Lord of the Rings"
By: Elvira Knudsen/TT
44 years have passed since one of the most appreciated Christmas calendars in television history, "Trolltider" was shown for the first time. This year it is time to bring it back to life, in a new vintage. "Sune's Christmas" will meet "The Lord of the Rings", says director Lisa Farzaneh.
In Vårby gård outside Stockholm is a large studio where a fairytale world has been built. It is dark and cool in the building and in the middle of all the technology and props move trolls with black eyes and pointed ears.
This year's Christmas calendar is called "Trolltider - the legend of the Mountain troll". Kjell Bergqvist, Malte Gårdinger, Ossian Skarsgård, Nour El-Refai, Helmon Solomon and Matilda Gross are some of the actors.
This year's Christmas calendar "Trolltider - the legend of the Mountain Troll" is recorded here during the spring. There is a high tempo during the recording, as 24 episodes are to be recorded in ten weeks.
Famous names such as Kjell Bergqvist , Nour El-Refai and Malte Gårdinger can be seen among the actors .
We take the memory of old "Troll times" and translate it to today. It will be a new story but more exciting. "Sune's Christmas" should meet "The Lord of the Rings", although it should be suitable for the whole family, says Li said Farzaneh.
Even though it will be a new story, the audience will once again get to know several characters who were there back in 1979. The fairy Dorabella, the sullen witch Mara, the dutiful wether, the grumpy master of power Gorm and the kind, but slightly stupid troll Kotte, are all the characters who are now back.
In 1979, the Christmas calendar "Trolltider" was shown for the first time. In 1985, it was repeated.
Honoring the memory of "Trolltider"
"Trolltider - the legend of the Mountain Troll" is said to be based on an old legend. In it, the mighty Mountain Goblin ruled over the North, but together the four peoples – the goblins, fairies, witches and humans – managed to put him to sleep with the help of a magical amber.
But one day someone finds the stone and breaks the spell that keeps the troll asleep. Then the human Saga and the troll Love find each other and together they try to find the stone and use it to prevent the Mountain Troll from waking up and taking over the world again.
When a classic Christmas calendar is brought back to life there is some concern about disappointing people, but according to Lisa Farzaneh it's mostly a "peppery nervousness".
We want to honor the memory of "Trolltider". I belong to the generation that enjoyed that Christmas calendar the most. As long as you honor it and keep what was good, I think you can feel the same love, she says.
Kjell Bergqvist plays the troll Gorm.
"Like entering a fairy tale"
The main characters Saga and Love are played by Matilda Gross and Ossian Skarsgård , son of Stellan Skarsgård , respectively . They see it as a great opportunity to be included in the Christmas calendar.
For me it is unimaginable and I am very grateful. It's a nice story and a nice script. It is a dream to be included in the Christmas calendar because it is something extra special, it is something popular. It's really wow, says Matilda Gross.
I say the same. I've always seen the Christmas calendar and it's always cool. This Christmas it will be special when you see yourself. It's so much fun to be in this environment, says Ossian Skarsgård.
Today, a scene from the first episode is being recorded. It takes place in the troll village where all the trolls live in their little huts. There is snow on the ground and lanterns hang from the ceiling. Outside the image is a smoke machine that contributes to the foggy forest environment.
It really is like entering a fairy tale. It will be a cozy Christmas calendar, says Matilda Gross.
A nice friendship
Ossian Skarsgård, who plays the troll Love, describes his character as someone with two sides.
He is a bit of everything. Playful, curious and nonchalant. He is also a bit rough on his sister but she deserves it. All this is very new to me, but it's fun to play someone other than myself, to be this troll, he says.
Love becomes close friends with Saga, who is a character full of energy and who always stands up for others. Matilda Gross describes Saga as a brave girl who never gives up and who constantly wants things to happen.
The filming of the Christmas calendar hasn't been going on that long, but already a friendship between the two actors has started to emerge, just like in the story.
Saga and Love develop a very nice friendship. They have a common goal and they do it together, says Matilda Gross.
In December 2020, in connection with the Christmas calendar turning 60 years old, SVT conducted a poll in which the most memorable Christmas calendar of all time would be chosen. Then "Trolltider" ended up in third place. When it was shown in 1979, it became so popular that it was repeated a few years later. Now that it is to be recreated, according to Lisa Farzaneh, it will be important to hold on to the memorable.
I have clear memories of invisible tracks in the snow and that it is a bit whimsical. This is going to be great, she says.

Neverwinter nights enhanced edition combat

NEVERWINTER NIGHTS ENHANCED EDITION COMBAT PC
It feels like punishment for not choosing combat. It would be nice of the game were able to detect you were not caught and then give you more experience than you would have gotten from taking the combat route. It would have been far more beneficial for me to murder every last soul in the mansions and the strip every last item from the place. I choose to sneak through the mansions, wasn't detected once I got the requested items. I can either show a Golem a ring to get past it and get 0 XP for doing so, or I can batter the bloody thing, get 400+ XP and then loot a key from it and open the door anyway.Ī similar thing in Chapter 1 as a Thief I robbed a load of people for a Lady in the Moonstone Mask. Unfortunately the module was cancelled after Atari pulled the plug on the premium module service.
NEVERWINTER NIGHTS ENHANCED EDITION COMBAT PC
With this Enhanced Edition Steam key, players will discover magic, mystery and danger at every turn in classic Dungeons & Dragons adventures. A long, long time ago (2005), I was contracted by Bioware to develop a premium module for their hit PC roleplaying title, Neverwinter Nights. 1 thing that is really annoying is that the violent combat route is often far more rewarding than the other options.įor example. NEVERWINTER NIGHTS: ENHANCED EDITION INCLUDES ALL OF THE NEW CONTENT FEATURED IN THE DIAMOND EDITION Become the hero you were born to be in fantasy RPG Neverwinter Nights. Use the world map to explore 18 areas in the Moonsea region including Zhentil Keep, Cormanthor, Thar, and prominent city-states.For some reason I am playing through the OC (first time trying Thief) and I am stating to realise how unbalanced a lot of the stuff in the game is.An expansion-sized high-level adventure with 20+ hours of gameplay Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition adds all-new enhanced features to the content of Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition. As the old Moonsea battle cry goes: “Dare… and beware!” Shadows of Undrentide: Another adventure. old keg with rogues and grave-robbers every night, it seems This is what. Journey through dangerous cities, monster filled dungeons and deep into uncharted wilderness in search of the cure for a cursed plague ravaging the city of Neverwinter. Gate: Enhanced Edition (BG:EE) all portrait sizes were slightly increased. Encounter monstrous foes of unspeakable power in a high-level adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The original Neverwinter Nights campaign: Find yourself at the center of intrigue, betrayal, and dark magic in Neverwinter Nights. Instead, combat involves a multi-layered approach. While Neverwinter Nights takes place in a real-time environment, BioWare was careful to keep the combat system from becoming a 'click-fest', where the player with the lowest ping and fastest reflexes wins. You soon discover that only you can prevent the total annihilation of the Moonsea at the hands of a legendary and ancient evil…Įxplore the treacherous region of the Moonsea, including the infamous Zhentil Keep! Travel by foot and horse through the dark and mysterious lands of Cormanthor and Thar, and by ship across the pirate-infested waters, engaging in ship-to-ship combat. Combat is conflict and forms the core of many Neverwinter Nights modules. Accompanied by the dwarf merchant Madoc, you approach the town of Voonlar just as the worst snowstorm of the year hits. Amid the chaos, war is imminent between the powerful city-states and their tyrannical rulers. A mysterious cult has arisen, bent on death and destruction. In the original Shadows of Amn and in the Enhanced Edition previous to v2. The harsh frontier land known as the Moonsea is besieged by demons. the secret of the Night Masks in Neverwinter Nights 2: Mysteries of Westgate. Developed by Ossian Studios and based on the original module by Luke Scull, this new, enhanced version of Tyrants of the Moonsea vastly expands this former premium module by adding 70% more story and gameplay, as well as a large amount of new art and audio content.

#NEVERWINTER NIGHTS MULTIPLAYER CAMPAIGN PC#
With a Dungeon Master on PC and an assembled party on Switch handhelds, it's easy to see how the Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition could be used to recreate a reasonable facsimile of the D&D tabletop experience. While the Nintendo Switch edition of Neverwinter Nights may not be the best choice for prospective DMs, the console's portability could make it the perfect edition for player characters. While crossplay between PC and Switch players will be included, only the PC side will have access to the Dungeon Master Client, which allows a single host to guide players through a module, control the world and hop into NPCs, similar to how a Dungeon Master operates in a tabletop D&D session. Planescape Torment and Neverwinter Nights on consoles in 2019.
#NEVERWINTER NIGHTS MULTIPLAYER CAMPAIGN MODS#
It sounds as if Switch players will have access to select mods created by the PC community, but not the complex customization tools used to build their own. The game will take place in Numenera, a fantasy campaign setting written by Monte Cook. PCs will also be able to host Xbox, Switch, and mobile using DM tools."
#NEVERWINTER NIGHTS MULTIPLAYER CAMPAIGN INSTALL#
"Curated mods will be available to download and install as well. Like all previous patches, we change the networking model continuously to allow us to implement new features and fix bugs. "Players will be able to play multiplayer with any module and we plan to offer access to most persistent world servers," a representative for publisher Skybound Games confirmed to Newsweek. While save games and modules created in older versions of Neverwinter Nights are usable in Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition, NWN 1.69 players wont be able to connect to NWN:EE servers. The Nintendo Switch edition of Neverwinter Nights looks to preserve many of the game's defining multiplayer features. The Duke of Daggerford has been mysteriously killed, a new power has taken over the town, bandits rove the Trade Way unhindered, and mysterious things stir in a fabled ancient citadel, yet all is not as it seems."Neverwinter Nights" beat the Night King to ice dragons.
#NEVERWINTER NIGHTS MULTIPLAYER CAMPAIGN UPDATE#

Neverwinter Nights: Tyrants of the Moonsea
I didn't enjoy this. It crashed several times, it softlocked sometimes, and the main quest was so tedious I cheated through part of it. The plot wasn't satisfying—there was one antagonist that you killed, everyone else escaped again and again. It felt like the most railroady of the modules I played. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone.

Happy Birthday to the Gaelic Folk sing Julie Fowlis.
Julie Fowlis is a multi-award winning Gaelic singer who is deeply influenced by her early upbringing in the Outer Hebridean island of North Uist. With a career spanning five studio albums and numerous high profile collaborations, her ‘crystalline’ and ‘intoxicating’ vocals have enchanted audiences around the world.
Nominated as ‘Folk Singer of the Year’ at the 2018 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, and ‘Best Artist’ at the Songlines World Music Awards, Julie is a warm and engaging live performer who has graced stages around the world, from village halls in the Highlands to stages in New York, The Philharmonie de Paris and Shakespeare’s Globe in London.  Recent invitations to perform have included a return to world-class Festival of Voice in Cardiff, the World Festival of Sacred Music in Fez, Morocco, to collaborate with the BBC Concert Orchestra in the Royal Albert Hall for the Proms and to support Scottish icons ‘Runrig’ to an audience of 50,000 during their farewell concert weekend in August 2018. She sang live at the closing ceremony of the Ryder Cup in Chicago in 2012 to a TV audience of 500 million, an event that was only eclipsed by singing live at the opening ceremony of the Glasgow XX Commonwealth Games in 2014, to a TV audience of over 1 billion people.
Since of the release of her otherworldy album ‘alterum’ in 2017, she has been in demand – touring with the world-class Transatlantic Sessions, sell-out shows in London and throughout the UK, and is currently working on a major new 14-18 commission with celebrated Highland musician Duncan Chisholm, commemorating 100 years since the ‘Iolaire’ tragedy.
She will forever be recognised for singing the theme songs to ‘Brave’, Disney Pixar’s Oscar, Golden Globe and BAFTA winning animated film, set in the ancient highlands of Scotland. The track was recorded when Julie was eight months pregnant with her second child, and has since been a worldwide smash hit, and the song ‘Touch the Sky’ was indeed long listed for an Oscar nomination in 2013.
Julie’s latest album, Alterum was released in 2017, as well as songs by Annie Briggs and Archie Fisher it  featured traditional songs arranged by Fowlis and her production team.
Julie made history as the first Gaelic solo artist to win a Scottish Music Award in December 2014.
In January this year  Julie released an EP  a new three-track  which feature a number of special guests, was recorded to accompany the Source To Sea podcast series in which Lee Craigie and Jenny Graham travel the length of three major Scottish rivers (The River Dee, River Tay and River Clyde).
Julies voice sends shivers up your spine, I have chosen  Smeòrach Chlann Dòmhnaill (‘The Mavis of Clan Donald’).  It’s a scottish gaelic song in which the poet praises Sleat MacDonalds and North Uist. It was composed by John MacCodrum (Iain Mac Fhearchair 1693–1779) one of the earliest of the “village poets”‘, who penned it as an ‘antiquarian’ re-creation of the Celtic bard Ossian in the 1760s

Video Games, VNs
(Last updated: 13 March 2023)
(VN: visual novel)
Video Games
Some role-playing games and games with character creation let female characters take on a more dominant role in romantic relationships. Examples: The Sims, Stardew Valley, etc.
The Movies (Lionhead Studios) lets you create role reversal scenarios
Fable III
Gets a notable mention here for several reasons. For one, this game allows the player character (who can be male or female) to cross-dress and marry/have children with multiple male or female characters. You are basically a “man with breasts” if you play as a woman, and on this blog, that is the highest compliment I can give. You’re still taller than most characters, including the men, you can wear bulky armour, and your character’s romantic gestures/animations are more often what you see in male characters in other RPGs.
Visual Novels
The Men of Yoshiwara: Ohgiya (Steam)
A historical VN/dating sim set in Japan where you are a young woman visiting a pleasure district in Yoshiwara, where men are the sex workers
Northanger Abbey (Ren’py VN; itch.io)
This adaptation of Jane Austen's eponymous work follows young Catherine/Christopher/Kit Morland, drawn to the horror and scandal of Gothic novels yet themself kind and innocent. They come to learn the ways of the world and develop a friendship with the Tilney siblings. Mostly humorous and romantic in tone, it introduces diversity into the setting (in various ways) while remaining cognisant of the prejudices and limitations thereof. Most notably, it has the option to reverse the gender roles of Regency England, though suits are masculine and dresses are feminine regardless. There are two romance options: Helen/Henry and Edmund/Eleanor Tilney, each available regardless of your chosen gender. More details here.
Rose of Winter (Steam)
A cutesy fantasy dating sim where you play as Rose, a bodyguard to one of four princes. Soundtrack by Toby Fox.
Sword Princess Amaltea: The Visual Novel (Steam)
A continuation of the original comic, where Amaltea and Ossian run from their own wedding and strike out on their own in an adventure. Good story, if a bit short.
Women of Xal (Steam)
From the game's Steam page: "Decipher a tricky high fantasy political mystery that mixes replayability, lore, and clear answers in a way unique to the genre." Diverse cast and a female-dominated setting.

The Art of Brian Sanders
Five Decades of Illustration
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Educated at St Olave’s Grammar School, which then stood at the foot of London’s Tower Bridge, Brian spent much of his final year life drawing and painting at the Sir John Cass College of Art, less than a mile away on the other side of the river. He was offered a place at the Slade School of Art, but because of family circumstances he went to work in an advertising agency.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Quickly learning that most of its artwork was commissioned from two London artists’ agents, he joined one of them as a ‘gofer’. Artist Partners exposed him to sixty world-class artists and photographers and their work. He owes much to the help that many of them gave him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His career was interrupted by National Service with the Royal Marines, mostly spent on active service with 45 Commando in areas of North Africa and the Mediterranean. During his final year he was recruited into the Intelligence Section because of his drawing skills. After National Service he worked with photographer Adrian Flowers, to whom he is very grateful for the assistance given in helping him towards his freelance career. Brian would draw most evenings after work, and a year later he selected his best twelve pieces for a portfolio, and went freelance. Adrian provided him with a studio within his own studio in Chelsea, as a quid pro quo for background painting and visualizing.

At first Brian represented himself, gaining work from Lilliput Magazine, which he jokingly asserts he helped to close. Miles Huddlestone at Heinemann came to his rescue supplying him with numerous book jacket commissions at seventeen guineas (£17.70) a time; so keeping the wolf from the door. Brian wishes he had kept a copy of his first jacket for the hardback edition of Ossian’s Ride by Fred Hoyle, who later became Astronomer Royal. In 1959 Artist Partners took him onto their books and put him on the road to success

It’s very early morning in London, yet the towering, coiffed father-of-eight is gregarious as ever, as he flits between such diverse topics as cooking, atheism, how he first met his wife, Megan, in the Shelbourne’s Horseshoe Bar (“You do meet a lot of people there”) and his late Hollywood home run.
He did balk at the House of Mouse’s standard contract that forbids actors from indulging in any behaviour that the film’s audience might find offensive.
“I was surprised that any actor would sign it but it turns out they do,” he says. “I don’t know why. The studios must protect their rights. But it’s abusive.” Skarsgård can afford to say no.
“I can get recognised by a three-year-old for Mamma Mia. And by teenagers for Thor or sometimes Nymphomaniac. I might get worried if the three-year-olds knew me from Nymphomaniac.”
“I see Lars Von Trier as my little brother and we have a lot of fun together. We have the same sense of humour, I guess.
He’s a fan, too, of how von Trier writes for women. “He has fantastic female leads and the male characters are pretty boring. But, as a vehicle for showing emotion, female characters are often better, because traditionally their emotional life has been more exposed. Men had a tendency to give the stiff upper lip and put the lid on. But we feel the same things you women do.”
That is one of the reasons that, having avoided various Scandi-crime shows, the actor was happy to sign up for the BBC detective series River.
“In the case of River, what’s going on behind the stiff upper lip was interesting to convey. And then when he encountered manifests, he could show everything. It was like playing one of Lars’ female characters.”
Skarsgård and his first wife, My, divorced after 32 years of marriage in 2007. He has subsequently remarried and has two young sons, Ossian (born in 2009) and Kolbjörn (born in 2012).
“It wasn’t much of a break, was it? And then I had to start over. I love it. What else should I do? Play golf? Also I’m different as a father now. I’m much more at ease with life and myself. It’s a great hobby.”
“It’s a parent’s job to make sure that they feel loved and worth something. And that they should be nice to people and be on time. That’s it. Then it’s good luck. They have to figure it out for themselves. And I’ll do the cooking.”
“I put in a phone call to Alexander,” says dad. “Because he had worked with Susanna on Generation Kill. Is she good? Is she nice? We don’t give advice but we do gossip. Put any four or five actors at a table and they’ll always gossip.” It’s not the first time that Skarsgård has played a Russian: he was Sean Connery’s student- turned-pursuer in The Hunt for Red October.
“That was during the Cold War when all the bad guys had to be Russian. There are not enough Swedish parts out there. I have to survive.”

Neverwinter Nights: Darkness Over Daggerford
This expansion was alright. The companions weren't very engaging (give me Deekin!), and the companion you start next to gets a total of ten or so lines in the entire game, when they could have had fun with your relationship. The side quests were more interesting than they were in the base game and the regular expansions, and there were several times that I stumbled onto an encounter that was surprisingly fleshed out. All in all, the side quests were probably the highlight of the expansion, as the main quest felt like pretty much every other generic CRPG main plot. But it's more Neverwinter Nights, I guess, so that's something.

OPERA IX “The Gospel”, 2018 (The new album of the legendary Italian Occult/Pagan Dark Metal masters)
“The wait is over ! The new studio album "The Gospel" by the legendary Opera IX is finally released after six long years by the previous "Strix - Maledictae in Aeternum". Opera IX certainly do not need presentation, they have been true initiators of Italian Occult Black Metal since the early 90s. With assets of seven full length albums, Opera IX has become one of the best-known Italian band abroad successfully crossing national borders in time. “The Gospel” is a concept album focused on the Italian myth of "Aradia And The Gospel Of The Witches", written by Charles Godfrey Leland and containing what he believed was the religious text of a group of pagan witches in Tuscany, Italy, documenting their beliefs and rituals. The album includes nine masterfully composed tracks with sounds that represent a bit of a "return to the past" in terms of dark, mystical and occult atmospheres and sees the inclusion of a new witch on vocals (Dipsas Dianaria) that forges with its powerful and ritual voice every track keeping intact the Opera IX trademark in years. Acoustic parts, classical ones, raging rides and mystical deadlifts make “The Gospel” a true masterpiece that manages to repay the long wait of all the fans around the globe that have always claimed a new album with such emotional charge remained unchanged in years. The new album has been recorded and mastered at both Music Ink and Occultum Studios, produced by Ossian and Federico Pennazzato (Death SS). Treat it with care and respect as only the legends deserve.”
