A LOT TO LOVE ABOUT STAR TREK THE ORIGINAL SERIES: CRISIS ON CENTAURUS BY BRAD FERGUSON

#I WANT TO POST THE WHOLE BOOK I LOOOOVED IT #we got scotty double trouble action (TWO scotsmen on the bridge)#we got chekov minor love interest #we got sulu badass pilot and sulu knocked out and having to be carried around for the second half of the book moments #we got UHURA’S FIRST TIME AS ACTING CAPTAIN. WHICH I WILL BE POSTING ABOIT #we got mccoy and joanna!!! WHO I LOOOOVE. the scene of them meeting got me 😭😭#we got spock logical as always (my fav thing he did was a huge spoielr so i wont say it. but it was GOOD)#we got kirk on the run having to put up with people he hates but theyre criminals so hes constantly threatening them in thr most insane ways #(the criminals r space racist and actually racist theyre white supremacists so everyone hates them. kirk threatens to rip their hearts out #and feed them to pigs which. he should have done fuck the federation)#overall it was really solid!#some of the characterizations i disagree with a little but its still estentially the crew ykwim #if anything i would prefer if it was longer! i would like to have seen the trial for the terrorists #i mean that lawyer guy is in this book. i wanted some lawyer action #and i would have liked to see more of the mccoys tbh! but what was there was nice #i enjoyed spock and chekov side mission and kirk and sulu side mission #i love uhura in the captains seat shes my favvv #ok and. to be FAIR. the ending is a bit lame like the last few pages. MGSV sketch dump. The brainrot is thriving

#mgs #metal gear solid #mgsv #mgs5 #mgsvtpp #I’ve let the brainrot simmer for a couple of days and dare I say I think I love this game #I mean there are things I hated but overall an absolute banger #I’ll definitely be replaying it #one thing I think the game would’ve benefitted from is taking more time for the ending #it was too abrupt #the additional higher difficulty missions could’ve been a mode #and those episodes could’ve been used to pace the ending #I also hesitate to recommend the game cuz it really benefits from the context of previous games #and that’s a lot of game #mgs5 also covers some very heavy topics #that hit very close to reality #I might have gotten more squeamish with time but some of those things were very difficult to process #one thing I think mgs does very well is it never settles for one side or one person being the absolute hero #in this plot they may be a relatively good person #but in the next they’re the villain #but it’s never static #and it u can’t get cozy with tropes #it’s not even grey morality it’s just human nature

Not really the exact emotion expressed in this specific instance but it is the overall issue #something something Hiro survivors guilt he keeps avoiding because that's a whole nastier can of worms than standard grief #“I'm moving on from Tadashi's death so I'm almost good!” he says meanwhile the EVERYTHING ELSE is still waiting to be unpacked #Cus like fun fact about grief caused by loss bet money that grief is not going to be the only thing you gotta work on healing #humans brains are really funky about death especially when it happens spontaneously when you least expect it #Anyway reminder that self care and mental health is not linear there are days you think you're good and then you Find Out #but that's okay #so yeah this was supposed to be a quick warm up doodle for another drawing but I ended up messing around with it and now its a thing #I did find a new way of sketching I think I like so we'll see how it goes #been busting out the solid 3px pen I used to used back in 2018 when I started drawing art for the series that's been fun #god bless tags man great for yappers

Adult Swim's new Superman show is really good, and demonstrates (in the first couple minutes) a better understanding of Superman than any non-comics Superman media of the last 2 decades, by recognizing two small but essential features of Clark Kent's characterizarion:

A) He has to discover his powers via an act of altruism (specifically saving a life) and

B) He ALWAYS saves the cat stuck in a tree

Look, I know that Ratchet being so different in RiD15 than in TFP is a thing of like different genre and target audience or whatever but I think it's funny to come up with possible in-universe reasons, like:

so hey guys i finished dungeon meshi yesterday and i'm still thinking about it

#ria.txt #i spoiled myself so at first i was like 'this is bonkers wtf are they doing in those last few chapters?????'#but then it was like. yeah. i see #love those ch when it's just clearly putting the squad into Situations #also. izutsumi #what i really liked was how tightly the protagonist and the deuteragonist were wound up in the overall themes #the plot the themes the conflict the characters it was very neatly connected #hence i am also now accidentally invested in whatever going on between laios and marcille #not just platonic not romantic not enemies i just think they work well tgt and deeply care for each other its great watching them develop #it's the leader + most trusted advisor / anxious girlfailure + the annoying freak she's somehow attached to vibes #haha that rabbit chapter with marcille. hahha i was like what the fuck man. it was funny and then boom whump [tears streaming down my face]#those shapeshifter chs were sooo much fun esp seeing other chara's perceptions of each other. stealing that #the changeling ones were great too elf senshi is the fucking funniest he looks sooooooo unserious #marcille's evolving perception with death starting with saving falin and saving the squad and her nightmares of outliving everyone-#-and her dad and her 'temper tantrum' and UGH when at the end she said she was fine with falin not coming back.... WAAA. OUGH.#i think dunmeshi handled the trope of 'prophecy of chosen one becoming king' pretty well and it makes sense why laios is the protag #the worldbuilding is so thoughtful as well i liked seeing different characters with different worldviews interact #very solid and well rounded series wooo #the main 4 has such a fun dynamic together #anyways. dunmeshi au.....#more like borrowing the worldbuilding bc charas are too nuanced for a one to one comparison #ren is like some prince of his own species but he's like 34th in line and no one cares about him so he fucks off to eat monsters #which is why he's both snobbish AND a total freak when it comes to his food taste #false is originally in for the money from ren and plans to scam him but unfortunately the cringefail swag captures her #martyn is Obnoxiously Clueless and thinks he's smart but he's not. he's resourceful but also pathetic and crazy #stress cant cook but she thinks she does so everyone goes (≖_≖ ) when she picks up a pot. they delegate her to killing and chopping duty #the mvp is iskall who keeps on saving everyone's asses and somehow has resources for everyone #i think ren is actually aware false is going to scam him but he has too much money to spend anyway and he thinks shes cool so he lets her??#and somehow she doesnt take the money and run. and goes back to eating monsters w/ the party. everyone is crazy

omfg . radio play version of much ado with david as benedick from 2001

#this version of benedick is a lottttt more serious and restrained than the 2011 version #definitely due to the medium and bc it matches the energy of this version of beatrice way better #it's not david and catherine's insane comedic chemistry but it's still really good imo..#like it's obviously not as endlessly fucking funny as the 2011 version but it's still really solid #and i'm impressed with how they did the humor in a 100% audio format #and i actually really love this interpretation of benedick as more cynical and leaning into his Hater side #ironically david's benedick here generally comes off as older and more mature than his benedick 10 years later #'the prince's fool... hAhH???' is obviously extremely funny but also 'the prince's fool... [uppity hmph]' is Inspired #and his outraged 'oh!'s and gasps and sighs when he listens to don pedro/claudio/leonato talking abt beatrice being in love with him #also funnily enough i think benedick's whole monologue after this is SO good. if not better than the 2011 version #cuz it's more restrained you have benedick's haterism actively fighting and losing against his satisfaction and giddy laughter #and the bit where benedick challenges claudio is so ohhhghhgouhgghg #the way his voice deepens with 'and her death shall fall heavy on you' just FLOORS me it's fucking perfect #but also equally as fun are the line readings where they have evidently remained the same (or similar)#my dearrrrr ladyyyy disdaiiiiinnnn #and the 'she misused me past the endurance of a block' rant #and when he's bitching about claudio falling in love w hero #but the vibes are so different this feels like a whole separate guy and that's really cool #i'm not sure how much i would love this production overall if i wasn't as familiar w the play tho #much ado #essentially trying to say in the least embarrassing way possible that david tennant is now both my first and second favorite benedick

The Song of Achilles is one of the most garbage books I've ever read and I kind of want to talk about it but I'd have to reread The Song of Achilles to do that in a cohesive manner, which is garbage

#I went through a phase of reading the like... Feminist-ish adaptations of Greek mythology genre . Which as a whole is absolute dogshit #Like almost everything I read was outright BAD.#Silence of the Girls is the only one I read that I would describe as 'good'. Which I have issues with but still think is overall solid #Which if you are looking for a good novel with Achilles story is the only thing I could possibly recommend #(It really isn't about that (It's the Iliad from Briseis' perspective) but happens to have the only depiction of Achilles and Patroclus tha #I did not absolutely loathe) (And also it kind of feels like the author couldn't decide what kind of Iliad retelling they wanted to do #because it starts switching to Achilles POV randomly around the middle) (Which is one of the problems with the book but after #the absolute garbage heap that was Song of Achilles I appreciated it anyway)

I feel like they really did their very best #And even though what I'm going to say next is probably going to be all critic - because I nitpick things and that's what I always end up–#talking about - I still want to underline that it was a very solid and enjoyable episode!!!#Alright the ss/kk was so 💞💞💞 every scene I had to rewatch twice or thrice akhscbashfb they're so cute!!!#Except for the riding scene tho. That scene gives me massive second hand embarrassment every time I just wish it will end as fast as–#possible pffttt. Mmmmhhh... The drawings weren't even too bad all accounted. My main complain is about the quicksand scene...#I feel like that one should be a slow quiet emotional scene. I never licked the choice of using the song as background soundtrack :/#I feel like it ruins the mood of the scene (it was still good though)#I also... Generally don't like the direction they seem to go for with Akutagawa's character in the anime‚ he seems quite a bit flatter–#compared to how he is in the manga. He can't be angry and evil ALL the time you need to show that softness get through from time to time.#If not what even is the point of his character. Yet in the anime he's angry (and not distraught) when he loses the mine craft and he's–#angry when he's questioning Atsushi about his motifs and he's angry when he's bragging about Atsushi's abilities to Goncharov and he's–#angry when he makes the promise with Atsushi at the end of the episode and eventually he'll be just as angry even when telling Atsushi–#to run away as he's sacrificing his life for him. It is pretty flat at the end of the day.#If I can say something about K/ensho Ono without being killed I think they do contribute to making him feel angry all the time.#But that said it's all probably poor directing choices (or simply choices I don't agree with).#Also‚ about cuts. Usually I try to be lenient about it– I understand it's hard to fit in everything and b/sd already does a very–#good job by adapting the manga almost panel-by panel. It's just that... You skip Akutagawa showing compassion for Atsushi after the–#orphanage director died. You skip Atsushi sharing the same compassion when Akutagawa loses his targed in the mines chase. You skip the–#“Nothing special about that. // I suppose he's far crueler than my own mentor.” line. And sure each of them may be negligible by their own #But together they wave a consistent web of relationship between the two characters you know? And it's a loss to omit them all #Well no mind. Again it was still a great episode overall!!!!#I think the colors in the mines could have been prettier in the mines but we can't have it all #Off to season 4!!! Omg I can't believe we got this far :DDD #random rambles #FINALLY was able to catch up in time for the season 3 finale!!!!!!
