Beatrix is quiet again, intently watching the pigeons mindlessly peck away as they let Miriel’s words sink in. Something about her words stirred up emotion within them, something positive and encouraging. “Yeah,” they simply reply, holding out the last sound for a few seconds too long before they could stop themself from vocalizing. They sit up, fixing their gaze onto her.

“I hope I can see summer. It'll be really warm then, right? I'll feel the sun better.” There's a certain optimism to their words, dull eyes slightly brightened by the prospects of feeling the sun's rays cast down upon their skin. "Maybe...maybe someone could even bring me to the beach. I think I'd like to be in the water." It sounded nice, even if they couldn't swim.

"I think I'd like that." A short, affirmative nod follows. Beatrix's next question came out of an odd sort of naivety despite being sincere. "Do you think I'm making a diff...differ...difference? I hope it's good. I'm trying."

the prophetic hero you die saving the world, as you were always supposed to. peace comes only with your blood. the world will remember you for centuries. they will write poems, create art, and film movies all about you. no one will remember what you were before your death. maybe you don't even know it either. you have spent so long saving the world time after time that there is nothing left of you except the heroism. you die never knowing love.

the sacrifice you die saving the thing you love. maybe it is family, friends, perhaps even a cause. they will carry your face with them for the rest of their lives, and every milestone they pass will make them think of you. it does not matter because you won't be there to experience it with them. years down the line, they will meet people who do not even know the weight of your name upon their skin. this is what your selflessness gets you in the end.

on my first pass, i was suspicious and thought that, surely, lou lou was sent to find haymitch by the gamemakers in her ear. and, of course, i still think that’s a very viable explanation…

however, on my reread, it just occurred to me that the much sadder explanation could be that as wyatt sacrificed his life to protect her, he may have—in his last moments—told lou lou to find haymitch, knowing that haymitch would do his best to protect her despite how he insisted on going it alone

UGH thinking about those weeks Rook was trapped in the regret prison... thinking about Lucanis sitting on their couch with Assan... thinking about Davrin coming in to look for his griffon... thinking about him trying to give Lucanis a pep talk but Lucanis just goes "you know what I miss the most?" And Davrin tries to make a joke out of it because that's what Rook would have done and he says "having someone fawning over you all the time?" And Lucanis doesn't react he just says "just talking to them. Just their voice"
