Random captive TDL au lore dump and some behind the scenes stuff since you asked so nicely :]
Dark in captivity
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
victim did use dark as a way to train and get the mercs and him used to the box
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
victim and agent (i would probably explore their dynamic in this au also, mitsi would haunt this narrative because yes)

some behind the scenes things

additional art
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
#alan becker#animator vs animation#ava#ava tdl#ava victim#captive tdl au#long tag warning#dark is going to have some dog/caged animal symbolism and machine symbolism#TDL is very much a problem captive also very annoying one at that#you can blame the high security one him since his constant escapes helped rocket corp to tighten their security#victim is definitely insane and he will do some incredibly messed up stuff in this au#the machinery on agent is supposed to look like it is slowly consuming him like some kind of infestation#agent has some issues as well and will be an enabler for victim#victim and agent's relationship will get some attention in this au but the main plot will still revolve around chosen and dark#chosen and dark's relationship is a lot more complex so i won't bother to summarise it all since i don't really want to spoil it#TSC will receive a bit of attention since he is still very much tied to the plot of ava#tsc does have a split personality like an alter ego that takes over when he is in danger#i dont think i would really touch on the colour gang since i think it would make the story too messy#i do have most of the story already planned out#it is just the part leading to the ending#every weapon and tech in rocket corp was tested on TDL#in a way he did help with the destruction of chosen by helping rocket corp to improve their tech by being their test subject#fulfilling his code in its own twisted way#btw the additional cage in his containment area is to temporarily hold him during the box maintainence or upgrades#it is also the same type of cage that TSC is kept in currently#the box prototype that TDL is in would probably have a different name like 'the cage'#the bars of the cage is electrically charged and it also resembles a dog cage (dog symbolism)#there won't be too much about dark during his captivity since it will be more about how it impacted the relationship between him and chosen#i would probably start posting more random lore bits every now and then between comics#i hope i stop getting side tracked when working on this au

When i had forgotten a poetry assignment one time in 5th grade and was terrified of failure so I was completely panicking, i just tried to come up with something for half an hour while eating breakfast without success, and then woke up my dad 2 hours before he usually gets up for work, begged him to interpret the poem for me and wrote down the anwers in dim lighting shining in from the hallway while he gives me an analysis angle with his eyes still half closed and one quarter asleep. That's what you did before chatbots.
Kids getting someone else to do their work for them is nothing new, parents or hired or threatened geeks are common enough. It was just also always known that you don't actually learn anything from that. And school is the only time when your main job is (supposed to be) learning things, so people should use that time. Even in a school system that's vastly improbable.
"what did students do before chatgpt?" well one time i forgot i had a history essay due at my 10am class the morning of so over the course of my 30 minute bus ride to school i awkwardly used by backpack as a desk, sped wrote the essay, and got an A on it.
six months later i re-read the essay prior to the final exam, went 'ohhhh yeah i remember this', got a question on that topic, and aced it.
point being that actually doing the work is how you learn the material and internalize it. ChatGPT can give you a short cut but you won't build you the the muscles.

am I getting too convoluted if I said Johnny dies Dallas lives n Pony loses his hearing as a result of the way Dallas hits him (to put out the fire) when he pulls him out of the church au??
#idk man#this idea has been rotting in my head for a long time#i have like a terribly rough outline#where basically the events of the book happen exactly as canon up until post church fire#so pony johnny n dallas are in the hospital#n ponys reeling from literally everything that just happened#n he reunites with soda n darry n suddenly realizes like oh fuck#i cannot hear sodas hysterically releived laughter#or darrys voice as he thanks god ponys fine#n then the dr pulls darry aside n tells him that pony has profound hearing loss as a result of an injury sustained during the fire#the last voice he will ever have heard clearly is johnnys#johnny dies canon complicent#but before dallas can get himself shot by the cops darry gets to him first#so dallas survives#pony learns asl from a deaf woman who their family has always been familiar with#since their parents were always real keen on including people that the rest of the world looked down on#dallas has to deal with not only surviors guilt but feeling like he took something from Pony that can never be given back#he has his own arc with the woman#but it basically all boils down to deafness is not the LOSS of something#but rather just the ADDITION of a new community n language n experience#plus dallas learns sign n is just utterly overwhelmed by feelin like his hands can be used for somethin soft n good#UGH#if yall wanna hear more about this lemme know#bc i have been thinking about this for a WHILE#the outsiders#sodapop curtis#ponyboy curtis#darry curtis#dallas winston#the outsiders 1983

You know what you do when a movie or tv show has a scene you don't like? You skip ahead if streaming it, you cover your ears and close your eyes if not streaming, or you leave the theater or turn off the tv or streaming site entirely when it becomes apparent that this is a major theme in the movie or show. And then you readjust your choice in media that led you to this moment if necessary.
That's what people have done forever and what is the correct reaction to this kind of thing.
"But what about the children" that's what pg ratings are for. They already have that. It's called ratings for what kinds of things are in a movie.
And apropos that, it's also why you research a film or tv show a bit before watching. For example, i don't like horror movies. So i make sure i don't watch a horror movie. Which is communicated through the specified genre, as well as the marketing and summary.
They even have website for smaller specific things, a famous one is "Does the dog die".
NOTHING gives anyone the right to censor media instead of doing what i described.

hal jordan vs brucie wayne: the tiktok war
a continuation of this. part two
hi i'm back with a little thing. i desperately needed to write something kinda lighthearted because my current WIP is really bumming me out lmao. anyway, effie-typical characterisation ahead so don't read if you don't like me portraying bruce as kind of an asshole <3
When Dick slammed his phone down, screen-first, onto the dining table, Bruce figured he'd finally had enough.
All of his children weren't behaving normally. Being shifty, being one with the shadows, that was a core part of being a Bat but this? Hiding things actively from Bruce was a step too far into territory he did not want to visit.
He sat down heavily, opposite Dick who was staring down at the table like it interested him greatly. "Phone," he growled.
"What am I? Twelve?" Dick retorted, flipping it over and unlocking it. A song started playing, a rap song Bruce was only partially familiar with and Dick didn't show Bruce immediately, staring at whatever played before sighing. "Okay. I'm gonna show you, but you have to promise to be normal about it."
"Normal?"
"Yeah." Grimacing, he added, "Just don't be...yourself, okay?"
A grumble of dissent built upon Bruce's tongue but Dick didn't let it fly. He spun the device around and Bruce got to watch one of those TikTok edits young people were obsessed with. The song he now recognised: Nasty Dog by Sir-Mix-A-Lot. Bruce figured the song choice would have offended him the most but no. He now saw exactly what Dick meant.
Because why, in the seven hells, was Hal Jordan the subject of this thirst trap?
Bruce blinked. He reached up and scrubbed his eyes before they focused again on that stupid, infuriating aviator jacket. It was--it was undoubtedly Hal's face and body there, edited by a stranger underneath a slightly cloudy filter in order to make him look as physically attractive as possible. And--
Bruce turned horrified, betrayed eyes onto Dick, his eldest and prodigal son who was currently rolling his eyes. "I told you to be normal about it."
"That's Jordan."
"Yeah."
"You are watching videos of Jordan."
"Yes."
"Why does Jordan have a TikTok account."
Dick sighed, long and hard. "He doesn't. But his teammate, Jessica Cruz has. She's been uploading videos about Hal for a couple of weeks now and they've been blowing up."
"His ident--"
"She's careful about it. No identifying questions or traits or anything like that. It's just raw and unfiltered Hal Jordan."
Staring at the edit which was still playing, Bruce blinked harder. "And people enjoy it?"
"Clearly."
"Do--" He hesitated. "Do you enjoy it?"
Glancing away, Bruce's boy muttered, "Me and others. Hal's become a hit in the hero community. And, uh, other communities."
"People are--are sexually attracted to Jordan."
Dick shoved his face into his hands and groaned. "Yes, Bruce. What about that can't you understand?" Lifting his eyes, Dick sighed harder at Bruce's expression which he was trying to maintain as total neutrality. Clearly, he was not effective. "It's not just his appearance. He's nice. He's honest. He's very out of touch with internet trends so he's funny without meaning to be. And with the Lanterns raising Keli, there's a paternal aspect people can't seem to get enough of."
"Keli?"
Sounding vaguely annoyed now, Dick said, "Yeah, Keli Quintela. Teen Lantern. Keep up Bruce."
"There's another one?"
"Ugh! Anyway, I got from Jason who talked to Kyle--"
"You talk to Jason?" Bruce asked, astonished despite himself.
Dick waved him off. "He's my little brother, of course I talk to him. Anyway, Jess is running a tight ship. She's ruthless about what they do and don't put on the internet. If the whole Green Lantern thing doesn't work out, she'd be a pretty good PR manager. Might not work for you."
Bruce narrowed his eyes. "How good?"
And finally, Dick looked a little cowed. He glanced up at the clock and then the exit, as if he was planning an escape while thinking up of a sufficient lie. Bruce leaned forward and hoped the hysteria in his eyes didn't give him away too freely. "Bruce, c'mon--"
"How good?"
Looking anywhere but his father's face, Dick muttered out, "Really popular. Like, stupidly popular. Even in comparison to you."
"To me?" Bruce's voice did not crack.
Throwing his hands up into the air, Dick desperately exclaimed, "It's not my fault we're in an economic recession! Billionaires aren't really popular right now so the people are gravitating towards a ruggedly handsome everyman--"
"Ruggedly handsome?"
"--to root for! And Hal just happened to appear on TikTok at the right time. I'm pretty sure Hal barely knows what TikTok is. Kyle apparently mentioned that they're not letting him read any comments."
"I..." Bruce stood up so fast, he was dizzy for a split second. "I need to talk to Jordan."
"Great! Goodbye Father!"
When Bruce walked out of the room, Nasty Dog continued to play and did not stop for several, long minutes.
---
When Bruce got to the Tower, he was late. This was by design, of course, although when he entered the agreed upon meeting room, the darkness made him believe it was empty for a moment. Flicking the lights on, he got the shock of a lifetime.
There was Hal, slumped forward with his head resting on his arms. John sat next to him, entirely uninvited but not unwelcome. Hal groaned loudly when the LEDs blinked to life, burying his face deeper. "Turn the sun off, John," he moaned.
"They're lights, Hal."
"Even better. Turn 'em off."
"Jordan," Bruce began brusquely. "Are you hungover?"
Hal groaned pitifully. "Who the hell has time to be drunk? I was patrolling for a week straight and then I had to go straight to a PTA meeting. Fucking Micheal doesn't know how to keep his goddamn filthy hands off--"
Hal was still talking but Bruce had already thoroughly checked out, his mind still caught on that damning piece of evidence right in the middle of his rant. When he spoke next, his voice was an octave higher. "You're a member of the PTA?"
"Shut up, Bruce! You're too goddamn loud."
He fought with himself to regain his composure. Breathing out deeply, Bruce spoke again and his voice didn't waver. "I wanted to discuss with you about your online presence."
"Aw, frag, is it that TikTak shit?" Hal grumbled. Once again, Bruce found himself blinking in shock. This was the man who'd charmed the internet? "Jess's the one in charge of it so go ask her. God, I thought this was gonna be important but you dragged me up here for nothing."
"It is important," Bruce pressed. "It's a matter of security. All it would take is one slip up for our identities and lives to be compromised. What Jess is doing is putting everyone at serious ri--"
"Get to it, Bruce," Hal growled. Growled. At Bruce. "Guy's got an MRI later and I needta be awake for it."
"I just--Gardner has an MRI? What happened to him?" Bruce demanded.
Hal laughed at him. Laughed. A short bark of a chuckle that was neither soft nor actually humourous. "Don't pretend to give a shit about Guy and his extensive brain damage now, Bruce. Get. To. The. Point." He lifted his head enough for Bruce to see the deep circles underneath his eyes, the weariness that clung onto his face like a vice. Not so ruggedly handsome anymore, then.
"I think you should convince Jessica to delete the account she's made," he said succinctly. "It's far too risky and if you truly are raising a child, which I wish to talk to you about later, it is best that you keep her off the internet at all costs. There are many benefits to staying offline, in fact, and I think you would thrive in such a position, Jor--"
Hal's head slammed into the table so hard, Bruce heard an audible crack. Then, he heard a soft and firm, "No."
"No?"
"No. Jess won't delete that account if she doesn't want to. That's her decision."
"Why?" Bruce demanded. "Why would you--"
"Fuck!" Hal slipped both hands over his ears. "Volume, Bruce."
"Why," Bruce snarled, "are you opposing me on this?"
"It's makin' her happy." Hal gave an approximation of a shrug from his crumpled up position against the table. "If she's happy making content with me in it, then she's happy and I'm not gonna be an asshole and ruin that. And she's good at it too, according to your kids."
"Do you enjoy the attention, Jordan?" Bruce seethed.
"People on the internet wanna get me pregnant and they frame it like it's a threat. Keep that in mind and ask again."
"You aren't funny."
"Wasn't trying to be."
"Jordan," Bruce said, taking a step forward to tower over him. "I'm not asking you."
"'Kay."
He felt himself twitch in irritation, a full body flinch. John smiled down at Hal, idiotically fond, and rested a hand against his back. "I think we should bench this discussion for another time," he said pleasantly. "We really do have to get going. Guy might try to chicken out of the scan and we've been trying to convince him for months."
"Right." A deep breath in and out. "And about Keli Quintela--"
"No." Hal looked up again, eyes a pale, bleached green. "Nope. Nuh uh. You come at her with one of your half-baked, bullshit contingencies and I'll show you what fear is. She's eleven. She doesn't need that shit. Jess won't even let her be in the TikTaks."
"They're TikToks!" Bruce cried, a little hysterical. "Don't tell me you don't know that?"
But Hal had already dropped his head down once more and gone still. John's smile at Bruce was nothing short of victorious in his calm, quiet way.
Bruce walked out with his head high and his ego moderately bruised, the promise of vengeance settling over his heart.

Awesome list!!
Here are some more reasons of my own:
Builds confidence: by learning new skills, learning to cope with mistakes, taking up challenges and succeeding and having an accomplishment you can grasp with your hands, you build up confidence in your own abilities. That is very important and good for you.
Keeps brain practiced: it's very helpful to have a brain that is practiced at learning new things and building new neural pathways. It keeps your brain younger, able to retain information and new skills betters, and that helps in all kinds of ways. Including for mental health.
Can be used as meditation: to just practice mindfulness, to have a way to space out and rest your head, and to have something low key to do while you process some situation or feeling under the surface and have a space and time and positive grounding distraction to take on your emotions.
Can boost self worth: yes you are worth it to have a lovely handmade item that a lot of effort and time has been put into.
An incomplete list of reasons why crafting helps my mental health (and might help yours, too):
It stops me from doom scrolling: can't go on social media if my hands are full of yarn.
It gives me a sense of agency: a lot of things are messed up in a way that's beyond my control, but I can make something that didn't used to exist. It's evidence that I'm alive and I can impact the world, even if the impact is small.
It builds my tolerance for mistakes: I grew up a perfectionist , which is really bad for my wellness and my ability to complete tasks. But crafts are a great source of low-stakes mistakes to help me learn how to handle imperfection. And while there are certainly mistakes I'll always fix, I also have many opportunities to decide a mistake is acceptable and leave it in favor of getting to the finish line.
It interrupts rumination: even if I'm still chewing on some troubling news, it's not front of mind if I need to focus on getting this seam straight or whatever
It helps me meet good people: although there are obvious exceptions, I've found most craft-centered spaces (IRL and online) to be full or supportive, kind, helpful people in all walks of life
It encourages a growth mindset: I'm always learning new things in crafting, and that builds my identity as someone who can grow and improve.
And finally, making your own clothes is empowering: I know this is specific to fiber crafts, but it's important. When you make your own clothes, you flip the notion that you're supposed to "fit into" a certain size and instead remember that clothes are supposed to fit you. You get to learn how to dress the body you have with love and care, instead of allowing manufacturers decide how clothes should look.

hyrule snap is of course the hit new video game for nintendo switch that has swept the globe to almost universal acclaim. @nightpool and @ot3 wanted to see some of my "nature photography" (part 2 here)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I would consider these 'perfect' animal shots; they're high contrast and there's even more than one animal in the larger shot for most of them. I spent an hour of in-game time staked out to get the arowana leaping
Tumblr media Tumblr media
these are shots I like but will retake at some point to get bigger or with higher contrast. you are rewarded by physically getting close to your quarry--one thing totk did is actually reduce the 'resolution' of your photos as you zoom in. I have a lot of very zoomed-in bird pics with 'pixels' the size of a man
Tumblr media Tumblr media
these are likewise perfect monster shots. note the octorok's projectile about to clock me clean upside the head
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
these monster pics will get reshot but I really like the poses I got. the wheezing wizzrobe who just needs a second. the top ten anime moments before black moblin disaster. the boss boko with his ducklings is funny to me; I just have to get the picture physically closer and on a sunnier day (hyrule doesn't have a real golden hour, either)
bonus: I like to shoot equipment in situ when possible. local twink jailed for taking creepshots, claimed 'was just trying to get a good angle on the gerudo scimitar'

I don't want to think of greys anatomy during sex, and the second building really does have more personality. Seeming made for use by humans instead of how good it looks in a city skyline is a pretty big win, personality wise. Not that the space needle doesn't look cool, but the criteria is fuckability, not architecture.
idk why people are still trying to do "hear me out"s on tumblr
you could talk about wanting to fuck the space needle on here and people would still call you a poser for insisting on fucking "conventionally attractive architecture" as if that's a coherent, easily-recognizable category

And when OPLA calls back to Zeff telling the crew to read stories to Zoro so he can hear their voices and recover faster, by having Sanji sit by his bedside on Thriller Bark and read him a book about the All Blue. What will you do then?

Tartarus is still a little broken and that's Fun !
#so far playing through all of this i have to say. the no level cap increase makes me feel cheated#with how much questing we're doing and all#iirc they said they wanted to take companion promos seriously but did this whole. Hawkules thing#where you have to get a drop and they eventually needed to increase its rate in this recent update#and if you wanted it without farming you have to pay 10 bucks worth of crowns for it now#you know! to promote a companion! but see you can just BUY a companion in the crownshop using that real money#if you cant tell ive not been a fan of this new promotion method and this is taking it 'seriously'?#granted ive just started tartarus so i kind of want to hold my tongue and see the rest for myself rn#so far these quests are Good and Bad. they definitely went in the right direction but. no level cap kind of hurts.#still feels like we're stuck in one place even though we're moving forward#there's a lot of great concepts and even better dialogue to even out the bad#but at what point do we feel it's worth doing all this effort for. a couple new mid comps and a chance at a main comp promo?#keep in mind all this posting is just my own opinion. i know there's ppl out there that either love or loathe these additions#and i find myself in the middle tbh#i find this story fine and good so far i guess but i don't know if i'm still going to feel this way by the end of it#and yes yes 'be grateful p101 even got updates' while wiz continues to get new worlds and level cap increases. wonderful to be where we are#rambling#vent

This goes for TVs also. Yes it's cool that technology has managed definition and video quality this good. However i do not actually need to feel like i am staring at a portal to another dimension in my living room while watching tv. I have an imagination and seeing every single molecule coming at you in uber realistic 4KUltraHD is unsettling.
this is a controversial opinion and I’m not a gamer but I don’t need my graphics to be that good. I don’t need to see every individual feather on a bird. my poor computer doesn’t deserve to carry that weight either.
