My toxic trait is that I’m toxic.
Is that plant looking at me? Don’t make eye contact. Actaea pachypoda, the white baneberry or doll’s-eyes, is a species of flowering plant in the genus Actaea, of the family Ranunculaceae. The plant’s most striking feature is its fruit, a 1 cm diameter white berry, whose size, shape, and black stigma scar give the species the name, “doll’s eyes”. Did it just blink? No. You did.
A variety of birds, which are not affected by the toxins, or the creepy eyeball aesthetic, eat the berries and help disperse the seeds. However, the berries and the entire plant are considered poisonous to humans and can lead to vomiting, delirium, and stomach cramps. On that note, don’t eat it. Have a good one!

Camping tip #1: maybe don't eat random stuff you find off the ground
ID below readmore
[ID: Title at top reads 'alphie origins: plant, possibly?'. In the first panel Alphie is walking among birch trees with bark patterns that resemble eyes. Below the panel reads 'betula papyrifera (paper birch)'. In the second panel Alphie is looking at some succulents that look like bloodshot eyes. They hold a bottle of eyedrops and say "Eyedrops, anyone?". Below the panel reads 'conophytum wittebergense (living pebble)'. The third panel has Alphie throwing a berry from a plant that looks like eyes into their mouth to eat it. The text below reads 'actaea pachypoda (doll's eyes)'. Outside the panels on the right side, Alphie is leaning against one of the birch trees from panel 1 and puking.]

“•They might have or not have a crush on MC even before Frey was gone”
omg pachy ….. ??? 👀
To be fair... Pachypoda canonically had a crush on both MC and Frey. LMAO
They were the first friends they've ever had and Pachypoda catches feelings very easily. But it was just a crush, and they were okay just being a part of their lives, and a part of their family.
It's cute, isn't it? 🥺 I miss them already!
Thanks for sending this, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks about it!

I just came across a plant called Devil's Beggarticks (Bidens frondosa). Since we're in the middle of spooky season, that made me wonder if there are any Halloween-themed plants (other than the pumpkin, of course). Are there?
There are a ton of plants with fun common names that might remind you of Halloween! These aren't traditional Halloween plants, but they are all interesting in their own way. Most flowers, with the exception of witch hazel (not actually named for witches, but for how bendy they are, from the Old English "wice"), aren't blooming by late October in North America.
Below are a few that we came up with. Can you think of any more? Feel free to share in the comments, or reblog with your favorite spooky additions!
Frightful sedge, Carex molestiformis
Witchgrass, Panicum capillare
Phantom orchid, Cephalanthera austiniae
Ghost pipe or ghost plant, Monotropa uniflora
Corpse flower, Amorphophallus titanum
Devil's club, Oplopanax horridus
Devil's walking stick, Aralia spinosa
Zombie palm, Zombia antillarum
Cursed buttercup, Ranunculus scleratus
Death camas, Toxicoscordion venenosum
Lambkill, Kalmia angustifolia
White doll's-eyes or white baneberry, Actaea pachypoda
Northern wolf's-bane, Aconitum lamarckii
Shadow witch orchid, Ponthieva racemosa
Dracula orchid, Dracula vampira
Devil's Dracula orchid, Dracula diabola
Toad rush, Juncus bufonius
Death apple, Hippomane mancinella
Veiny skullcap, Scutellaria nervosa
Bloodroot, Sanguinaria canadensis
Zigzag spiderwort, Tradescantia subaspera
Common wormwood, Artemisia absinthium
