Do you know about the Marchil h-doujin, just called "Marchil Meshi"? (Dunno wether you're comfortable about adult content regarding the ship. If not, sorry and feel free to ignore).

Imagine my surprise… When a few months ago, I was looking up places to buy doujins for dunmeshi online bc of that new-ish laimar (sfw) doujin and I find, many many nsfw ones bUT AMONGST THE HORDE… MARCHIL MESHI. I ate it up. It’s a lil iconic to me ngl, I quote it in my head sometimes. Marcille angrily gesturing always gets me cackling. It honestly has no business being this good, it was made pretty early on in the story so many years ago, and STILL! So in character, and honestly so funny, AND no weird business either. Like listen, I scour the internet, looking for any marchil content, any marchil content at all… And find a dry af desert, no life here, literally jackshit nothing. Only Pixiv has some afaik but the nsfw is def… Hm. 😔 (2 fics tagged chirumaru on there btw!! That aren’t mine lol) Thank you marchil meshi author if I had to pick 1 piece of marchil nsfw to exist I’d choose this one (honestly that’s already so close to reality lol) Thank u Asaki Takayuki I owe u my life. I like zines but I’ve never bought doujins before so it didn’t cross my mind, but dunmeshi is taking a lot of my first times in fandom engagement and I bought said laimar doujin just the other day hehe 

I do want to keep my blog generally sfw but yes I’m 100% cheering on nsfw marchil content from the shadows, glad that ao3’s finally getting some too. I hope that fic writer makes more… Tallman Chil is so so good but I hope they also do some more general premises, which the end notes on that one do make me hopeful 👀 I want more marchil writers in general. More marchil fanartists. Sfw nsfw idk I need to be fed 😭 (<- This post was drafted before that new marchil smut fic WOOHOO. So much new marchil content this week!!)

Oh while I’m here, I find this so funny/odd, but in japanese fandom ship names are simply the beginning of each name smushed together, like marchil or chilmar. The order of the names is that the first one is the "top"… Idk how jp fandoms live without switches but aight, but in m/f ships this means that typically the man is the first half of the ship name right. WELL WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT marchil is so much more used than chilmar lmaoo. Even more stats: On Pixiv, the tag marchil had all the artworks, but the chilmar tag had all the fics. Ain’t that wack to think about. Anyways marchil or chilmar idc you go guys

Alright hc time what was I gonna talk about… Ah yes ah yes. I def think Chil is a pest, he’s horny and he wants sex and is flagrant about it, but also we know that he stayed faithful for 4 years without getting any, I feel like realistically the relationship sex wise would 100% be on Marcille’s pace. And this is the fun part, bc would Marcille be very eager? Would she want to do the romance book correct™️ route and that means no tapping until marriage, or he needs to court her all princely first? They are such a blank canvas of sexual chemistry listen LISTENNN there are just so so many ways you can go with them they are so special. God the banter… They cannot stop bantering for a second I swear So many kinks they could fit… I like uhh praise kink for him and for her… Idk she just really loves him and the emotional adoration is what’s at the core of her enjoying it all so like, loving Chilchuck kink, which turns out those two really match together 🫶 He makes her sing and ummm um you see where this goes. I am not sure if it was your blog or another that pointed out how jarring it is that Naruto would choose to get a new arm without Sasuke, since both of them are in agreement that they would share each other's burdens. And that it seems inherently a selfish choice for him to choose it while Sasuke refused.

I honestly never thought of it, because I assumed that since both of them were without arms for some time during the blank period and they discussed it and Sasuke chose not to since he didn't trust it would not fail in battle and Naruto agreed with him.

It's more of a realisation for me, since I just thought that they were both in agreement, but this other take made me wonder and hence I decided to send you this ask.

Thankyou! I'm glad to read that ♡!

Oh, that would not have been me for sure. As you say, it was "a take" from someone because I can't think of a moment (at least in canon) where they.. discuss this matter. (Perhaps in 'Boruto'? If so then ignore the rest 😆)

And if they haven't discussed it, then don't you think that all talk regarding this are theories? We don't really know why Sasuke chose to not get a new arm. That's not to say that some theories are more probable than others but Naruto making a decision while disregarding Sasuke? That didn't happen whether we saw it or not because it wouldn't make sense for their characters. In their case, they've developed too much for it to be a possibility.

There are many in-character theories though, things that would make sense too.. but the problem with those as well is that it's just that: theories. Or, headcanons. E.g. Naruto never said that he'd get an arm because it'd be irresponsible otherwise as Hokage and Sasuke never mentioned that a missing arm would remind him of VotE2. (I'm saying it simply, the original theories go deeper than that, but you get what I mean..)

Naruto-Reddit is all in agreement with each other that Sasuke didn't get a new arm "to atone for his sins" and that it is "explicitly stated somewhere". On Twitter they even bring up Sakura and that it is to punish himself for her sake.. *insert major eyeroll* Although they can't tell you where any of this was stated. Of course, this also isn't true and don't mind the lack of reading comprehension..

Now what I think..

Well…

I like that our sub fandom, or the people who understand Sasuke's character can somewhat understand that Sasuke wouldn't necessarily want a new arm, need it to battle or feel the need to receive this.. "gift" from Konoha/Tsunade- or whatever.

As a SNS-fan I certainly enjoy many of the headcanons about this subject because most of them are based on canon material. Canon as in: the removal of it holds a lot of meaning, as much as the entirety of the story itself almost as it serves as a conclusion and beginning at the same time:

This visual is incredible and I do think it is a reminder of sorts, but (I'm sorry..) I think the choice to not get the prosthetic has less to do with Naruto alone personally. Although he is part of it. Sasuke without Naruto is a practical character and given the entire story and the fact that they're separating at the end of the Manga.. (temporarily but also in preparation for its sequel :/ they ((shueisha)) tried at least ykwim) don't you think that suddenly receiving an arm from Konoha after they wanted to put him in jail and punish him for changing a corrupt system after they've failed him first, seems kind of like he'd be indebted to them? Like, "we're letting you go free because we've pardoned you and giving you an arm out of the kindness~ of our hearts.. so…." Yeah, no. And isn't is also true (not sure, because this was mentioned in 'Boruto' right?) that if something happened to it he'd need a new one? Meaning: he'd be depending on Konoha for an arm as they constantly are doing research on it and improving the thing.. so don't you think that Sasuke would be the type of character to just learn how to use his powers/weapons/Jutsu with one arm- if he could?

Which he can now? Instead of depending and being "sorta but not really" indebted to Konoha who then so kindly provided this new arm for him? "Despite him having been a rogue Shinobi who went against them"? < general narrative.

Yeah.

Which one sounds like a burden to you?? Seems like an easy choice to me.

But having said that, I don't think Sasuke minds it because of the way it happened and with who. He had no reaction to having lost his own arm, but when he saw Naruto lost his as well..

He looks shocked, defeated, turns away and then Kishimoto decides to cover his eyes and make Sasuke question Naruto again more out of desperation than anything else.. several times. It hurts and not just because he's bleeding to death.

There is so much meaning and symbolism behind the missing arm.

And that's the big difference. Not minding and holding the meaning/history closely as a personal matter or "resenting Naruto for getting an arm without him" as some posts here make it sound like is something else entirely. There is sort of a… jealous/bitter(?) tone to that which isn't necessary and doesn't suit him/them. There are things bigger than them and the fact that there are proves how important they are to each other. Growth in contrast as shown to the audience (us). Sasuke understands Naruto's connections as much as he does his own (including lack thereof) and the one they have with each other. If there wasn't they wouldn't have developed as much.

So I understand it, but there is one thing I dislike. The general fandom, without explanation is holding onto this idea of "Sasuke sinning" all because of one panel and seeing him without an arm is validation for them as if to say "see? He's feeling guilty, as he should! And that's why he doesn't have an arm." As I said before, they even make up entire theories relating this to.. Sakura? Who especially has nothing to do with it as Sasuke even says himself. (IN THE SAME PANEL LMAO!) It's depressing. Which, sort of fits the Shinobi life I guess. One who doesn't live for themselves.. that's the burden here. Not the missing arm. Apparently for this audience it is necessary to give it a panel or two because they take most things at face value or grab things out of context.

Sasuke did leave Konoha before the arm that was made for him was finished and Kishimoto did mention that notably because people would otherwise question it. This however, I find interesting because the question actually still remains.. "why?"

He simply says that he can't "miss this chance" to go travel, to see the world, go on a journey by himself and although that's true, that doesn't seem like the sole reason for rushing his leave, not staying in Konoha any longer and therefore not getting the arm that's almost finished. Sakura also says the arm is made out of Hashirama's cells- which is where things could get complicated.

And I believe, although I'm not sure about this, this is currently completely retconned in 'Boruto'. The whole "using of Hashirama's cells" is confusing to me because I've been reading theories and everyone is saying different things and 'Boruto' makes no sense anymore. I'd have to study it.. For now I'd say that Kishimoto deliberately chose to leave it and not go the route of figuring out how to work with it and what it would mean if Naruto/Sasuke have an arm made up of Hashirama's cells which they could potentially use for other things.

And why does it look like that under the bandages?? 😆 (So natural, I mean) Why use bandages in the first place then? This is some BS!!

"Boruto" everyone. I don't know much about it yet but I'll read the damn thing when I get back from my travel, hence these screenshots- these are not my opinions/observations.

I think in conclusion that's why Sasuke refused the arm, but the reason for Kishimoto was much simpler and dismissive as it wasn't for him to deal with (he thought). And now 'Boruto' doesn't really know how to handle the lore regarding power dynamics at all, changing it to all kinds of scientific stuff to make it easier on them I guess.

But admittedly, I do like some of the SNS-headcanons.. *shrug*. I just take them for what they are.

Nothing grinds my gears more than going through some of the indie and fandom RP tags, seeing a new promo, and clicking that blog to find that there is absolutely jack shit on it. And I don’t mean just RP posts; I mean the only thing that exists on that blog is the promo. They don’t have a rules page, a docs, a Carrd, nothing with info on their rules or info on their muse(s). Not even a link to another blog that says “hey, my rules are here, pardon while I convert stuff over to this blog!” If you’re lucky, they MIGHT have a pinned post they says “under construction” with sweet fuck all beyond that. You know what “under construction but has a promo” tells me? That you’re someone who is 100% going to half-ass this blog. And that is a terrible first impression to give. Bonus points if you whine about having no interactions; you reek of meme receptacle to me. Maybe have something somewhat finished before you promo yourself, instead of putting in zero effort and expecting people to want to write with you. Blogs like this bring down the quality of the RPC far more than someone with no blog theme and a basic, plain, unformatted google doc with rules and a muse list ever will.

Fenris romance cut scene note

I just watched both variations of the initial Fenris romance scenes back to back for the first time and I noticed somethings. He ends up pushed against the wall in both but I noticed some differences.

In the grab and push one Hawke is kissing his neck while Fenris’s head is tilted to his left. Fenris’s hands move along Hawke’s back, hips and rear.

However, in the alternative scene in which Fenris initiates he is KISSING HAWKE BACK when against the wall and while his hands are roaming they move slower and more assured. Freakin’ yeah! He deserves that.

I used to like the first one more but after noting these differences I’ve changed my mind.

Dragon Age Thoughts- Fenris’s Markings and Vallaslin

‘The Chains are broken but are you truely free?’

I believe Flemeth is talking about his lyrium markings here. We and Fenris himself are not meant to know this at the time. The markings he has are the actual markings that the Dalish vallaslin are based on, the ones Solas said were slave markings in Arlathan.

I believe Solas also referring to those markings as ‘chains’ supports this.

‘I broke all the Chains of those who wished to join me.’

In this mural from Trespasser the ancient vallaslin is blue, like lyrium.

Vallaslin is ‘blood writing’ and the Dalish use their own blood to make it but lyrium is the blood of the titans and I think that was the original 'blood’ referred to.

That they are lyrium and with the multiple uses of the word ‘chains’ I have come to believe they are not just markings or a source of power, but are meant to tie to the marked to one of the Evanuris. I also think this would require the use of a Spirit but this is more tenuous of a theory based on how spirits are needed in reversing tranquility and also noting that lyrium is used in the brand of tranquility.

I think there are two reasons Fenris’s markings are ‘broken’:

1. Mainly they are broken because the Evanuris they are meant to connect to is sealed away

2. There is no binding spirit used in the exact way needed to connect them

I really hope both are true because if it’s just #1 then if the veil falls Fenris gets enthralled :(

Holy fuck?! Pardon the language but truly thank you, Thank you to everyone who got me to 100 likes! Like this perhaps may be the new start of my tumblr adventure! My blog will feature characters from and or related to Thomas and Friends and TUGs. “What are you looking at?" The new Gryffindor asks. Despite only being a first-year, she already knows almost everything about the school, having read Hogwarts: A History, her favourite book, several times.

“Nothing.” The ginger boy states, beginning to devour his meal once again.

He had been watching his eldest brother and a girl make eye contact, blush, turn away, then make eye contact, blush and turn away again - it is an endless cycle.

“Doesn’t look like it," this first year is skinnier, with green eyes and dark hair. Harry decides to follow his new friends gaze to the Hufflepuff table.

He was looking at a girl.

“I like her hair.”

“What?”

 Hermione rolls her eyes at the boy’s ill manners. The first day in, and she is already fed up with her housemates. “It’s pardon.”

He instantly rolls his eyes back at the know-it-all. The first day in, and he is already fed up with her.

“You think she’s staring at my brother because she has ‘nice hair’?”

“She’s pretty. Why were you look at her, Ron?”

“Don’t look at me like that, ‘arry. I don’t fancy her… stop look at me like that!” He huffs, and takes another bite of his drumstick, not caring to swallow first, “ue artud mm t.”

“Oh my god,” the girl rolls her eyes again, exaggerating each word. “Don’t talk with your mouth full, you pig.”

Harry laughs, choking on his water.

“Jesus Christ ‘arry,” he hits his friend hard on the back, “and sorry, I didn’t mean to offend you.”

“It’s okay - ew!” Ron hadn't met it, as he opened his mouth wide to show the girl what exactly he’s eating.

She can see a bit of roast potato in there.

He reminded her of a Hoover.

He swallows and starts again, “I said that she started it. She was looking at my brother.”

“Thanks, Ronnie, but we’re third years, and she’s a fifth year, that would be gross -,” the twin on the right starts, worming his way into the conversation.

“ - not that we like older girls, but they don’t like us.”

“Not you two, you idiots.”

The twins are mostly identical, par a few things, for example, George is taller by 1/2 an inch, not that anyone knows which one is George and which one is Fred.

“(Y/n), did you get my letters over the summer?” Percy asks, pulling his satchel tighter to his side. He is quite tall, and thin, with horn-rimmed glasses which makes him look rather funny in his brothers’ eyes. He would never admit it, but he was quite upset about the lack of responses.

Every holiday, since their first year, the two have always made sure to exchange letters and hastily reply to each one. This has led to Errol fainting several times, but that could also be due to the constant frights he gets from seagulls and pigeons.

However, this summer, it took (Y/n) almost a week to respond to one, small letter.

Okay, it was four pages long.

Of course, he doesn’t know that she didn’t know how to respond and, it was all his fault.

Last year, (Y/n) had struggled with Charms, which Percy is great at, just like every other subject. So, Percy had offered to help her and, the two spent about eight weeks in the library, every Tuesday and Thursday, alone.

Now, this isn’t the problem.

The problem is that the day before their last, they had decided to cram in some more charm work and look ahead to this year’s spells, using his brother Charlie’s book. They had ended up staying late, and when packing up they hugged for the first time in a few months, but it felt far different.

It gave her butterflies.

“‘course I did, Perce,” the girl turns to him, beaming. “I replied to you. Sorry, it took me so long, a lot was going on.”

“Perfectly alright, (Y/n/n),” she instantly blushes, turning away to instead focus on the very interesting portraits.

He would do anything for her.

“What is up with them?” Ron asks, clueless as ever. He is more focused on not being late because the twins have spared no gruesome tale of the punishments they had received such as being beaten with sticks and having to kiss an ogre!

“I think she fancies your brother.”

The youngest son can’t help but snort. “Don’t be daft. He’s a bloody troll.”

“Okay...”

“Hey! Have some respect, that’s my brother.”

“Boys…” Susan Bones and Hermione sigh to each other, walking past the grumbling two and up the stairs.

Percy had heard what Ron said about him being a troll, resulting in him playfully chasing around his younger brother once (Y/n) had gone into class, and Ron Harry, and him were left alone in the corridor.

“I can’t believe you got to Perce without us -,” Fred sighs, putting his arm over the shoulder of his brother as they head back to the common room after dinner.

“- We feel quite betrayed really.” George finishes, tearing his gaze away from Angelina Johnson for a split second to grin at his brother.

Fred found it quite funny, how smitten his little brother is with her.

“How was I supposed to know he heard?”

The twins chuckle, giving each other knowing looks before focusing back on their brother. “It’s not that he heard -”

“It’s the fact that she could have.”

“Who?”

Fred shakes his head again, “tut, tut, tut, little brother. You see, like Georgie with Angelina,” his head instantly shoots up as he glares, “he is completely and utterly in love with her.”

“Didn’t you see them blushing at the feast?”

Percy wanted nothing more at that moment than to strangle his brothers.

“Who are they talking about, Perce?” (Y/n) doesn’t want to admit it, but her heart had sunk upon hearing it.

The two of them aren't supposed to be here, at this moment. The two were planning to head straight to the courtyard after dinner, before his patrol, but instead, Percy wanted to head back up to his common room to drop off his bags - like a fool!

There was no way he could like her when he is so confident and loud (something which definitely runs in the family.)

“Whaaaa...” Percy attempts to ignore his red face, “..aaat?”

“Oh my god, you do!” She gasps loudly, taking a step back, and alerting the brothers.

“Oh shit,” the four brothers utter in sync, which would have been funny if not for the situation and the fact that all redness has faded from Percy’s cheeks as he begins to look faint.“

You like me too!” His mother taught him not to point, but he can’t help but point an accusatory finger at her.

“Yes, I do.” The Hufflepuff girl beams proudly. It feels right to say it, and when a Hufflepuff is sure, they do not back down.

Oh, how the table have turned, rendering the confident know-it-all into a gaping idiot.

“Wow,” (Y/n) links her hand in his, looking up to him, “if you are this surprised now, I can’t imagine how you’ll react when Hufflepuff crushes you guys at the end of the month.”

She is trying to ease the tension, Percy does not feel eased, his heart is beating too fast for his body, he’s redder than an hour in the sun, and he knows that his palms are sweaty.

“Bollocks,” the three brothers utter by the entrance, entranced with the scene around them.

“Percival?”

This appears to shake him out of his stupor as he bites back a smile, straightening his posture to look down at her. “Well I’ve known you for years, so it isn’t like we barely know each other... hmmm... I guess I love you too.”

Her shoulders sag in relief. “Thank god.”

A few moments of silence pass as Percy waits for his response.

“I already said that I love you, you Nutter.”

He smiles, beginning to slowly lean down.

Her cheeks flush again as she realises what is about to happen.

Not in front of his brothers!

For once, Percy doesn’t care about what his brothers think of him at this moment.

Fred thinks he’s a fool. George thinks he’s gross. Ron thinks he’s a prat, still, although he does still love him, he has to admit.

“S-so you admit that we are going to win?” She whispers, trying to change the subject, but at the same time wanting this more and more.

“Bollocks,” he whispers and just as their lips are about to meet, she pulls away.

“The words before our first kiss is not going to be bollocks,” she kids.

You know sometimes I have the impression that the audience in MHA and the audience that reads MHA are alike.

For example the majority of the answers I saw regarding the development of Hawks and Endeavor are:

If, for example, I can understand the lack of reaction from civilians to Hawks' actions, since the change and more criticism of the heroes comes in the long term, I am still quite disappointed with the lack of criticism from the majority of readers. who had a more omniscient view of the situation.

Anyway, it's just to say that I'm happy that you and some of the readers are more critical without loathing the characters.

Mh, you're definitely not alone there, anon. There were times where I too considered the irony in the fact that a good portion of the fandom's standings on Hawks (and sometimes Endvr) tend to mirror the reactions from the civilians in the manga itself.

I think this can be easily explained away tho. Of course the readers should technically have an omniscient view on the themes of the story (and sometimes they do! I happen to follow all the right bloggers bc I rarely see bad takes nowadays, only complaints about bad takes for the most part). But, there's a but. And it's mostly Horikoshi's fault.

See, we get hints at the fact that hero society is shit very early on (most prominently in Stain's arc), but the first time we are actually shown the pov of an outcast, and the first time we see him in a sympathetic light, is with Shig during mva. Which only happens waaaaay later in the series. By that point, most of the audience is already firmly rooting for the main characters. So it's hard, by then, to welcome any sympathy for the villains, or to even concede that hero society isn't all it's cracked up to be. After all, even when Horikoshi tries to push forward that theme, he always does so clumsily and sometimes ineffectively. For example, framing Endvr to be an absolute shitbag but still making us cheer for him. Or framing Hawks as a villain when he kills Twice only for him to suffer no backlash at all from the public afterwards. how are you to think that the villains might just have a point about the corruption of hero society when the author himself doesn't want to commit fully to the idea that the heroes should work on their own flaws?

Anyway, I'm glad that my blog can provide some interesting content for you. I'm far from being unbiased but I try my best to read the series with regard for authorial intentions and themes.

As for the Icarus theory... Forgive me, I'm a little out of the loop since I put the manga on break. I'm not sure if a new theory is floating around or if you were referencing the original Icarus theory. I always believed Hawks to have a lowkey Icarus symbolism. I used to believe 1000% in op's points too, but then the war arc happened. I still think that Hawks will ultimately have a "fall", but I don't believe it involves a villain awakening anymore. I'm not sure what's the deal with Lady Nagant, but from what I parsed from the spoilers on my dash, I think she might've stolen that plot point from Hawks. So Horikoshi probably plans to do something different with him now (tho admittedly he's been retconned. It's pretty much a given that this plotline was originally his).

That said, idk what he's been up to as of late, and if that would change my prediction in any way... but imho for his character to make sense at this point, he needs to do something that goes against the greater good, and that can finally redeem him. Even if it's in his last moments. I see a huge death flag for him and I'm not even sure if he'll ever break out of his mindset tbh, but if he doesn't then what's the point of keeping him alive till now.

Plus, if Endvr gets redeemed by hopefully acting like a father and not a hero, I think it would make sense if Hawks got redeemed by finally acting like the boy who selflessly rescued people in need from a car crash, and not the utilitarian monster the Commission made him out to be. Ever since the war arc, Hawks has been paralleling Endvr as a corrupt hero from the top ten who refuses to see his own flaws while still preaching justice and heroism, so I think that for the manga to make sense, they both need to address the things they're trying so hard to run away from. In Hawks' case, I expect it to take the form of a self-sacrificial, selfless act because a hero who killed his negative foil doesn't have a big chance of making it out alive from the manga. But I could be wrong. Maybe he'll live and not change. Maybe he'll die and not redeem himself. Maybe Hori will say he's changed while he's still the same. It's all up in the air with how Hori has been writing things lately

Heyo! I joined this fandom about a month ago so sorry if I sound like a total buffoon lol. I recently came across something that kind of made me cringe but I have no clue if it real or just a rumor. This something is at a fan sign and a fan, and to specify even more they were a Taekook/Vkook shipper. The fan supposedly talked to JM about Taekook and a fanfic she wrote or read (something like that?) about them. I'm pretty sure people said JM was uncomfortable with where she was going and was trying to shut down the conversation and make her move on. Then, due to JM getting uncomfortable (which is freaking reasonable, who would talk to their idols about shipping someone else when you can literally talk about anything else? Maybe it is just me lol.) the fan got angry and decided to talk shit on her blog about how "rude" he was. I have no clue if this is true of if you have even heard of it. I would just like to hear what you have to say about it!

P.S.: If this is true, then that is pretty, pardon my language, fucked up. Imagine, you are dating someone and a fan comes up and starts talking about your soulmate and boyfriend. That would just make me uncomfortable and stressed out. Well, even if they (JM and JK) were not dating, that is still messed up. I don't get why people would talk about this shit in front of idols (yes, they most definitely know about it, but we do not have to shove it in their faces, invade their privacy, make them uncomfortable, and expect answers/expect them to like it. Just plain ridiculous and I seriously hope this is not true, but I have heard worse.

I had also heard about this rumor. I also was not in the fandom at the time. I wasn't sure how much stock to put into the rumor. I tried to find more information about this since yesterday so that I could try to give you more information with good sources. I even reached out to @wingzie about it since she is my "senior" ARMY friend and I trust her sources. She also basically just said it was rumor and had a hard time finding anything related to this officially.

Neither one of us could remember the outcome of said rumor. Its important to keep in mind that sometimes fandom culture can blow things out of proportion and it can turn into a bit of a cry wolf type situation. So it's important to try not to focus too much on things that you cannot back up or find any information about anywhere else. We agreed that it might be true, it might not be, but either way probably wasn't the best thing to try and focus on. As a new ARMY, try and focus on the positivity of all the guys together. It probably isn't worth it trying to dig into every nitty gritty rumor between ship wars, that can be a toxic place.

I do agree that if that did happen it is extremely out of pocket and inappropriate. I would hope that anyone who gets the chance to meet the guys would use it to praise them and love them and make them smile! That is not the place for anything to do with shipping. And if any of the guys ARE together, its not like they would ever confirm it to a fan at a fansign. It wouldn't be a very good secret relationship if they just went around confirming it to people in so many words or chitchatting about fanfiction over said relationship with fans. Lol

"i am very curious for the vids on amara right now, because I feel like I did not understand a lot of the underlying text from her plotline."

My Amara heavy vids are Reflection (S14 orig)/Destiny's Reflection(S15 update), End of the Line, and Xanthosis. However they're more how she interplays to the storyline for the mains rather than a breakdown of the mythological significance at large. I'd say check my talk on Absence. Somewhere I do have a cosmogeny post from like S13, where I break down the Qabbalah on this but I can’t seem to find it at the moment and would be a bit extra. Almost overcomplicate things right now since it went into the tree of life and pillars, even if that’s quite predictively mapping out our path right now episode by episode.

I will say: not all mentions of “absence” on my blog are specifically in regards to Amara, but rather, to a collective mindset. The fandom -- frankly, humans in general -- tend to think in dualities. A subtle point in the subtext of this all is that dualities are often more a matter of being and unbeing. Darkness isn’t a thing, it is an absence of light. Death isn’t a thing, it is an absence of life. Evil isn’t a thing, it is an absence of good. It wasn’t by magic that I pre-quoted Cas in well...Absence once I saw the episode title while dealing with Jack being soulless. (x) This is something to learn moving forward-- or uh unlearn. Be absent of former dichotomous coding.  This is critical in other things like The Absence of Life which is going to be incredibly crucial to grasp coming up. (x)

Many authors talk about the Absence of Cas as a narrative tool, and while this is very valid, I find it’s almost too targeted. It’s a valid tool to start thinking about empty space: absence of Cas in AUs, the loss of Cas in the alternate future, and more--you’ll find me showing how Amara’s exit itself paralleled Cas and both handled Absence. But this is a very large scale idea that also impacts the sum of our cosmogeny really. You don’t think of it being “Cas” and “negaCas”, it’s just... absence. Something that isn’t there. Now expand that on these ideas.

I once etched this out on paint to try to streamline it when it comes to our Alpha and Omega (11.23), aka our Form and our Void (11.2).

They're pulled out into Absence, Absence is the lack of Being, Being is the created world. Beyond the created world there is the Empty. In the Empty there is only the Shadow.

But body is also the physical world. As above, so below.  Everything, and I do mean everything, ties into this. There's actually two takes on this! Very good question! Ironically, most gnostic branches believe the ascent does return you to the formless shadow, and it's called a Nihilistic view. Basically you return to the source of the machine as the one. On the other hand, more hermetic structures are called Optimistic, in that the machine is self-created by us to learn and master ourselves through and achieve enlightenment by returning to a *reflection* of the core. In supernatural, this would be the Garden, where the unconscious shadow being built over in creation reaches down as the subconscious serpent and asks who you are-- man returning to the garden.

In fact, Jack’s role in this (including the Luciferian parts I’ll talk below) in being the one TO return to the garden corresponds with phanes and the orphic egg, the (remastered) being that CAUSES that big bounce. (x) Why yes, I AM going to just keep throwing season 14 posts at you because this structure is a few years building at this point.

The Shadow may be the source but a still raw and unformed one, it's the fish before it crawled out of the cosmic water if you will.

Whereas the question of Being or Unbeing, first sourced in ideas like Chuck and Amara, came as thought. Thought and Mind made the world in Being.

So Chuck Had A Dream, and built it, but off the back of a primordial Shadow soup that already existed before him.

So the Thing that wonders why, or even if it exists, does exist as a formative Prima Materia, first material, on which the mind itself was made, but in reaching into the created world also has a new form. There, the crossroads of man and divinity, the Garden, where Jack reclaimed his soul.

Chuck is the first Mind to create by Grace and the Word (Logos, notice the book between Dean and Castiel) and half of the first question. Abraxas: Abrahadabra: I speak, therefore I am.

Chuck would thus be (half of) the Shadow's mind in its first form, but lacks the actual essence that defines the Shadow, and the Soul. Some schools of gnostic thought believe that humans were originally created, their body forms, by the Demiurge (Chuck), but they had no souls. So the Shadow descended as a serpent, sometimes Lucifer sometimes not (I don't think SPN is doing that part--or more, as above, is using Jack, the orphic child, as Phanes), to teach them the difference between good and evil, but that forbidden fruit wasn't an apple or whatever, it was giving them a soul, because the soul is the one true good and foundation of it all.

There is no evil, there is only the absence of good.

But the acquisition of that made them more than Chuck's dream, but able to have their own.

Chuck wants them to believe that the Gold they have made in this world and their interpersonal relationships cannot stay. Perhaps in his world that may be true. But man and his soul and his mind is a mortal beyond the body of this world

If they break Heaven from the chains he put around it then he has no power over man. It's the same reason he sealed Amara away. He knew they were equals and he couldn't stand it.

Man has the same right to the throne that Chuck has. Only his propaganda machine and keeping people in the ecosystem of his boxes is what gives him Authority. But as Fortuna says, don't play his game. Make him play yours.

As Dean said when he threw Michael in the Box.

In that box, Dean was God. Everyone else was just All The Same. Michael couldn't snap his fingers and nuke them all, he didn't have Chuck's given right of being a wavelength of intent across the realm.

Perhaps my greatest frustration in this fandom is trying to slam out post after post explaining how wall to wall this incredibly deep philosophy is, to try to point out its resounding and powerful message to an entire audience, only to be met by resistance over silly fan warring about wanting or not wanting a ship like. Honestly, I don’t care if someone doesn’t like ~Destiel~ like. Get over it. You can see it as a long series (15.09, 15.13, etc) of platonic bro marriages of the platonic bro mind for their cosmic taxes to get a discount on the loan for their galactic fucking refrigerator at this point, but you are fundamentally doing yourself an entire assed disservice on the very moral bone structure of this show to not be willing to absorb this, much less prepare for how this will usher out our ending.

I don’t care if you ship Dean with Anna or Lisa or some other ancient shit, I don’t CARE if you prefer some Cas ship from 1492, tuck all that away. Please, for the love of everything holy, try to understand these lessons that the writing crew are even using to try to help counsel everyone through the ending of a show that took up much of our lives and, beyond that, learn how to carry these lessons into the real world in a way that just might maybe make you a better person who is able to have a better experience in their life.

a elite journalism company is recruiting for internships and asking people who know the candidates for input. when they come to Bustier's class and say they want to take people aside to ask about Alya, Marinette tells them not to bother and just look at the Ladyblog to see what sort of reporter she is. Alya thinks that Marinette is trying to worm her way into her good graces, Mari knows they'll actually fact check and reject her,

There was a buzz of conversation in the school today. Apparently a high end journalism agency was out recruiting interns for the summer, their goal being to teach and carefully groom the reporters of tomorrow.

And Alya Césaire was all the more eager to show them what she could do. So she put her name in for that internship and waited.

It wasn't long before she noticed that her classmates were being called out of class one by one. When they would come back, they'd shoot Alya a big smile and give her a thumbs up.

Her brows furrowed, confused, but she smiled back and continued with her daydreams of being a star reporter, of being the one to find out Ladybug's identity, of maybe even covering the future wedding of Chat Noir and Ladybug, with Lila as the maid of honour!

"Marinette Dupain-Cheng. You're wanted next." Principal Damocles spoke up, eyeing the girl sitting in the very back row, all by herself.

Marinette nodded and got up, ignoring the glares sent her way by her classmates and followed the principal to his office.

She quickly noticed a woman sitting at the principal's desk. She was beautiful, dressed in a white sheath dress that complimented her soft dark skin and trim body. Her dark hair was pinned back, and her dark eyes settled on Marinette.

Marinette knew that the woman was analysing her, taking in much information with a single gaze.

It scared her a back.

"Miss Dupain-Cheng, yes? I'm Genevieve Belrose. I work with Paris National, the biggest news agency in France." The beautiful woman spoke, folding her hands neatly as Marinette took a seat and Damocles left. "I am currently out recruiting interns for the summer. One Miss Alya Césaire has applied, and we at PN like to gather as much information about our interns as we can, as one can lie of a resumé, but the people as a whole always help paint the full picture. Now, do you think that Miss Césaire is worthy of an internship with us?"

Marinette bit her lower lip gently, her hands tightly gripping the armrests of the chair. This was Alya's dream job, this could get her to the best places in journalism. It'd make Alya so happy.

But why should you concern herself with Alya's happiness? She hadn't concerned herself with Marinette's.

"No, Miss Belrose, I don't think Alya Césaire is suitable for the internship." The words came out before Marinette could stop them. But no guilt came as soon as they were spoken. In fact, Marinette felt somewhat relieved.

"Really?" Genevieve's brows rose as she stared at the young girl. "All of your friends have her outstanding praise, saying she was a good journalist."

"She's not." Marinette stood abruptly, her body shaking ever so slightly. Genevieve didn't flinch, seeing there was an obvious emotional turmoil. "Look at her blog, the Ladyblog. She had posted nothing but lies recently."

When Marinette motioned to Principal Damocles' computer, the head of PN went and looked up the blog. She already had before, had researched it extensively, as the internship application for miss Césaire had been bragging much about her superior blog.

It had been subpar. At the earliest of posts, it was promising, but recently it had reminded Genevieve of a gossip tabloid.

"It has become a shrine to Lila Rossi, more than a blog of facts." Marinette pointed to several posts, ones Genevieve herself had quickly found out to be untrue. "And to the search for Ladybug's identity. One that Ladybug herself pleaded for her not to try and find, as it could endanger the ones she loves."

"Hmmm." Belrose nodded. She did find that frantic hunt for a superhero's identity was intriguing, but she knew that is Ladybug fell, then Paris would fall victim to Hawkmoth, so she had banned any such coverage from PI. She respected Ladybug, and respect and trust was how you got interviews from the big names in the world.

Genevieve listened as Marinette told her every lie, every dishonorable thing Alya had done in her own twisted sense of journalism.

"Miss Aurore Beauréal has a blog called 'BugOut'. It is much better, and has even debunked the lies that Alya has published, but Alya refuses to change anything. In fact, she attacked Aurore the other day about it." Marinette sat down again, hugging herself. Had she overstepped a boundary...? She couldn't help it, but she couldn't allow Alya to have the assets that came with that internship.

She truly was a horrible friend, wasn't she?

"... I thank you, Miss Dupain-Cheng. You are the only one in that entire class of yours to be honest with me, beside one Chloé Bourgeois. While I honour loyalty, honesty is a better policy, despite what people make us journalists out to be." Genevieve gave the girl a dry smile and stood. "Miss Césaire will not be working with us. She is a disgrace to journalism everywhere, and from what I've read, she is far too proud to admit her mistakes. That is a journalist's downfall. I appreciate you for pointing me towards someone that has the potential to be worthy of my company. Now, you may go back to class, Miss Dupain-Cheng. I have an internship agreement to write up."

Alya Césaire perked up slightly when she saw a camera man with a 'Paris National' walked by them in the hallway. Were they finally here to give her her internship?

"Lila, I think it's finally happening!" Alya squealed as she pulled the Italian girl closer, pointing to the camera man as he disappeared through the doors and out to the courtyard.

"I told you my cousin worked there. I put in a good word for you, I promised afterall." Lila smiled sweetly, while silently being thrilled. With Alya becoming a reporter in an actual agency, she could become even more famous!

As the two girls entered the courtyard, they watched, confused, as a young man was handing Aurore a letter, than shaking her hand.

"We look forward to you starting your internship soon, Miss Beauréal. Welcome to the PN family." The man was saying, and Alya felt her blood go to ice.

"What...?" Alya whispered softly, staring off as Aurore's classmates cheered for their friend, and Aurore burst into grateful tears.

"Oh Alya, I'm so sorry!" Lila gasped, her hands on her cheeks and her eyes wide. "I was certain my uncle could get you it."

"Why...? Why couldn't I get the internship? By blog as ten times the amount of followers as Aurore's mess!" Alya snapped, her hands curling into fists.

"Maybe it's because Aurore is white." Lila spoke up suddenly, crossing her arms. "You know how it is in the industries. As long as you're white, you get first pick."

"I beg your pardon?" Both girls turned around, seeing Genevieve standing behind them, her arms crossed. She had a scornful look on her face. "I will let you know, Miss Lila Rossi, that race had nothing to do with my decision on who I will be personally interning. It was about quality over quantity. And Miss Césaire's quality was quite lacking."

"What the hell do you mean? My blog is perfect!" Alya shouted, drawing the attention of everyone in the courtyard. Marinette frowned as she pulled back from her hug with Aurore. Alya looked like a dog readying to tear out the throat of its prey.

"Your blog is trash!" Genevieve snapped, setting a perfectly manicured hand on her hip. "I have never seen such sloppy work! Your stories were a disgrace! You only took the stories from your little friend here at face value, and never once found any secondary sources to back them up!"

"Lila isn't a liar! Did Marinette put you up to this?!" Alya spun, her face red with anger. "Marinette, you bitch!"

"That is enough!" Genevieve snarled, her eyes narrowing dangerously. It was clear she had made a good decision. Genevieve had worked too hard, had suffered such discrimination, she was sure Alya would have thrown it all out the window, seeing how she reacted to rejection. "You, Miss Césaire, are a disgrace! I would never, ever hire anyone like you in my life! I will make sure every news agency, ever tabloid, every newspaper stand in Paris knows this! How dare you insult me, and my company, by thinking we think race matters over everything else, such as the most basic thing as checking sources, which you fail to do!"

"Wh-what...? Wait, no!" Alya's face went pale, as she reached out a shaky hand.

"Don't worry, Miss Césaire. I believe Miss Beauréal and I will be working on a story tonight. A story of one tabloid trash who got a bit too entitled with her out paltry journalism skills."

Genevieve left the girl standing there, smiling down at Aurore as she approached. "I certainly hope you can come to headquarters with me. I have already contacted your parents, I have their permission."

"Yes! Yes please!" Aurore gasped, delight clear in her eyes.

Genevieve gave a look to Marinette, smiling and nodding to her, before leaving with her eager new intern.

hi hi hi! actually, yes, there will be a story dedicated for silver. it's actually an order from one of the customers that's currently on the second to the last request sent to me. it'll take quite a while to be published but we're getting there! i've made this young boy cameo on some of my stories to give him some attention and soon enough he'll get a story of his own. i have too much imagination to not let it happen. all i have to do is put it on paper <(￣︶￣)>.

ohhhh boy here we go. i've been exposed for researching before writing. i can't believe me just saying 'vil got the pureblood fangs' made me be known for researching. anyways, i don't entirely rely on google. i read some articles out of google too. i've done my own analysis from movies and books as well and place them on my stories so while enjoying the concept of writing, i also try to teach my readers something new. this is why i do thorough research before publishing (hence the slow updates).

focusing on the vampire fangs thing, i've actually seen a post back when i was still an 'untitled' blog here in tumblr. as someone who loves mythologies and have been through a lot of vampire fandoms (diabolik lovers, ikemen vampire, owari no seraph, etc.) there are blogs that have posted concepts about fangs. it doesn't apply for everyone who creates vampire characters but one thing in common is that purebloods share the same sharpness and length (adult ones). it really varies trust me. just do your thorough research about fangs. and DO rely on in real life concepts, not fictional ones. i suggest reading from experts.

now going to the google aspect, i mostly type what i really wanted to read. first, i do, let's say i wanna read something about faes, search in wikia fandoms about the general knowledge in faes. then, when i find something that i needed to expound on (let's say they tend to count sugar and salt which is true), i type in why is it like this, why is it like that.

and all honesty, i just get lost from researching/reading that i almost forget i have a story to write...

Based on this request:  Hi! The request about a Bratheon!reader got me thinking, what if there's a similar situation where the reader's king robert's daughter or a stark or something like that and the reader ends up getting smuggled away when jamie leaves cersei in kings landing and ends up reuniting with jon snow at some point and she kinda ends up kindling a spark with jon snow and interrupts the whole jon Daenerys thing? i'm not sure if this request makes much sense or if it would be good or not > . <

Here you go, lovely! I changed it just a little and ended up making her a Lannister (mostly so I wouldn’t get this request and the Robb one confused while I was writing XD.) *Familiar characters are not mine!

Warnings: SLIGHT (POSSIBLE) SPOILERS FOR SEASON 8.  FLUFF!!!!!!!!

Pairings/Characters: Jon Snow x fem!Lannister reader, Jaime Lannister, Sansa Stark, Daenerys Targaryen. Brief mentions of Tyrion Lannister as well. 

You were hiding and listening when your aunt, Cersei told Jaime she had no intention of letting her army fight the Army of the Dead. You had always been disgusted with her, but now you were frightened. She cared more about the throne than the realm she was supposed to be protecting. And when she threatened to kill your Uncle Jaime, you became frightened for your life. If she would kill him, what was to stop her from killing you, the daughter of her most hated sibling?

         "Uncle Jaime!" you cried, seeing him heading for his horse. He stopped and faced you with wide eyes. "What is it?" Your eyes filled with tears. "Don't leave me here. Please. I-She might…I can't stay here." He looked at you with sympathy. "I can't take you, Y/N. Cersei would never let you leave the city. Not when she could use you as leverage."

         "Please, Uncle Jaime. My father hardly knows me. He kept his distance if only to protect me. She will kill me. Please." Jaime glanced around to make sure no one was around before he threw a cloak over your shoulders. "Keep the hood up and your head down. I'm no smuggler, but I will do my best." You tied the cloak and put the hood up as he hoisted you up onto his horse. You knew you were riding North, but you gave no thought to the fact that you and your former love would be reunited once more.

         You stood behind Jaime with shaking knees. You kept your eyes on his back even though you wanted desperately to look at the faces of those people who would decide your fate. "Lady Brienne speaks highly of you, Ser Jaime. I say you should stay," Sansa said, making you breathe a sigh of relief. If they were willing to keep Jaime alive, maybe there was hope for you. After all, you hadn't done anything other than being a Lannister.

         "Thank you, my lady. And, what of my niece?" At that, you finally looked up at Sansa and Daenerys. "And why should we allow your sister's daughter to remain? She could be a spy." You narrowed your eyes slightly. You did not like this woman. Not one bit. And you especially did not like the way she kept looking at Jon. Still, you knew you had to say something. Anything to convince her to let you stay.

         "I beg your pardon, Your Grace. But I am NOT Cersei's daughter. Tyrion Lannister is my father. My mother, his first wife, bore me in secret to protect me from Cersei and Tywin. It has only been the last few years that I have come to know my family. Would you punish a young woman for the sins of her family the way Robert Baratheon punished you for the sins of your father? Uncle Jaime smuggled me out of King's Landing to protect me. If you turn me away, then I shall return to my aunt's keeping as I have nowhere else to go. But then my blood will be on your hands."

         The whole room went still and quiet as they watched with bated breath to see what Daenerys would say. You took that opportunity to glance at Jon for the first time since you'd arrived. Your own breath caught in your throat when you saw his eyes already on you. His lips were turned into a slight frown, but that was normal for him. And his eyes held a hint of the boy you used to know. The boy you had fallen in love with was now a young man. A handsome one too.

         "I do not agree with allowing Lannisters into our midst. Lord Tyrion has proven himself loyal. The two of you have not. You have proven time and again that your loyalty is to Cersei." Daenerys said. She and Sansa exchanged glares before looking to Jon to keep the peace. Without taking his eyes off you, Jon replied, "I agree…with Sansa. We need every sword we can get in the fight." With that, he rose and left the room.

         Daenerys looked heartbroken and more than a little angry. She got up and left the room in the opposite direction while Sansa came over to you. "Come. I'm certain you're freezing. Let's get you a bath and some dry clothes." You gave her a grateful smile as you followed her out. As you trailed behind her, Sansa spoke. "You know, of all the Lannisters I've met, you are by far my favorite. You aren't like your family."

         "Perhaps because I was not raised by them, my lady." Sansa smiled and laughed softly. For a few seconds, she didn't speak. Then she said, "I believe you and Jon would be good together." You nearly tripped on the hem of your wet, dirty dress. "I-I…I don't know what you mean, my lady." Sansa giggled again, something that seemed out of place in her otherwise somber countenance.

         "Everyone saw how Jon was looking at you in there. And I remember how close you were all those years ago. You loved Jon and I think you still do." You let out a sigh. "Of course I do. Even though I knew there was never any hope for us. The Imp's daughter and Ned Stark's bastard? As soon as my identity was discovered, I was shipped off to King's Landing to learn to be a proper lady and Jon was destined for the Wall. We were doomed before we even met."

         "Now you sound like him," Sansa said with a sigh. She turned to look at you as you stopped outside one of the doors. "After you are cleaned up, you should talk to him." She opened the door and ushered you inside. As soon as you were settled, Sansa left and you enjoyed a warm bath. You let out a groan as the warmth began seeping into your sore muscles. You hadn't known how badly you needed to relax.

         You heard the door open and sighed. You thought it was a handmaiden or someone that Sansa sent with a new dress, without opening your eyes, you said, "I can dress myself, thank you. Please just put the dress on the bed." For a moment, there was no response. Your brows furrowed and you were about to speak again when someone beat you to it.

         "I think you have me mistaken for someone else." Your eyes flew open and you looked over at the door where Jon was still standing. He was a respectful distance away so he couldn't see anything, but you felt your skin heat up anyway. "J-Jon…the door." Jon's own face turned red. "I'll come back once you've finished." He turned to leave.

         "Jon, I just meant you should close the door. The last thing I want is for someone I don't know to see me like this." Jon slowly closed the door and turned back to you. Silence came over the two of you again. You simply stared into each other's eyes from across the room. Then you spoke at the same time, saying each other's names. You giggled as you motioned for Jon to continue.

         "I've missed you. At the Wall thoughts of you kept me up nights." You felt yourself flush again. You cleared your throat. "It seems you didn't miss me nearly as much as I missed you." At Jon's confused look, you went on, "Daenerys. I saw the way she looked at you. Like she's got you wrapped around her finger." Jon was by your side, kneeling next to the tub, in an instant.

         "It was one time. And I never felt for her the depth of feeling I have always had for you." You looked into his dark eyes, which were still on your face despite how close he was. "Do you mean that?" His lips turned up slightly into a small smile. "I do. Y/N, no one could ever compare to you. I have already told Daenerys that nothing will come of our time together. She isn't you."

         You beamed at him as tears pricked your eyes. At least there was something good coming from all the bad in this. You had Jon. "I should go. I have a war to plan for." You nodded. "I'd ask you to join me in the bath first, but I'm afraid this Northern air has the water already cold," you said with a shiver." Jon chuckled before he kissed your forehead.

         "It wouldn't be proper anyway." You arched a brow. "Jon, you are kneeling next to the bath where I am sitting. Naked, I might add. I don't think propriety is the issue here." Jon's face flushed again and you couldn't help but laugh. When your laughter died down, you caught Jon looking at you again. You reached over and ran your fingers over the beard covering his jaw.

          "I love you, Jon." He rested his forehead against yours. "And I love you." With a grin, you reached up, wrapped your arm around his neck, and pulled him into the tub with you. Jon's laughter joined your own just before he brought his lips to yours. Water splashed to the floor as Jon tried to get up, only to slip and splash again. The winter winds blew outside and you could hear the logs crackling in the hearth, but nothing kept you as warm, as comfortable, or as loved as having Jon there with you.

cw abuse mention - so im new to fandom and im curious about something. is it okay to ship toxic/abusive ships? like obviously not if one is an adult and the other is not or they're related but as anna karenina said "All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way." you know? ive just seen different opinions on that so im curious.

Short answer: Do what is comfortable for you and the people you directly interact with.  Have open conversations about what each of you is comfortable with. Tag  known triggers diligently, and put especially controversial content under a read-more.  At any point in time, when someone with whom you are writing becomes uncomfortable, respect their discomfort and cease to write the content that’s upsetting them. On the other side of the coin, refrain from judging others for writing material you are uncomfortable with, and simply avoid their blog. Block if you have to.  Blocking has gotten a bad rep on social media, but it is actually a very important way to establish boundaries in a society that’s ubiquitous with instant forms of information (and social contact).  Do not feel ashamed for doing what you need to do to feel safe. 

Longer answer: This is a tough one. That’s probably why you’ve seen so many different (often strong) opinions about it, and let me disclaim that I’m no expert. I have written many toxic ships and I have written many ships that are healthy and balanced right off the bat. My end goal, however, is always healthy and balanced, with the understanding by all involved, “do not try this in real life.” 

At the core of this argument is the extent to which creative fiction may explore realms that are necessarily, and for good reason, inadvisable, even harmful and dangerous, in real life.  This of course then brings up questions of “to what extent can fiction influence reality by modeling certain cultural values?” And, therefore, “what is the creator/author/artist’s responsibility to real people consuming their work?”  As an artist and scholar by profession, I am deeply invested in analyzing media for the messages it conveys, and in the fact that art has a transformative power upon society.  There are things you just shouldn’t write about: egregious depictions of rape not responsibly and sensitively resolved, for instance.  

On the other hand, some content creators who explore deeply controversial content claim that it is therapeutic to explore their triggers from the safe distance of fiction, and that, if they tag responsibly and don’t force that content on others, who is to say that they are “forbidden” from doing so? 

It’s a complicated situation and I have come to believe that the best way to deal with it is on a case-by-case basis. Everyone has a different threshold, and every “toxic ship” you might write is a different level of toxic. A good way  to gauge this is the couple’s power dynamic. 

 For instance, I write the Doctor X the Master on this blog. To me, this is acceptable because both parties have informed consent about how toxic the partner is, and both parties have an equitable power dynamic: neither the Doctor nor the Master is stronger, or at more of an advantage, in terms of social or political privilege. They are both nonbinary and queer, both Time Lords of an elite social caste (important note: for this pairing this is not always true. Sometimes you do have to be very careful, and check both the character’s privilege and your own as a writer: for instance, if you write Thirteen x Dhawan, be aware of how she weaponized his brownness against him, which DOES matter to the human audience watching Doctor Who, as well as the character--the Master--experiencing a power dynamic imbalance, and how that is a very problematic incident that needs to be directly addressed if the relationship is to flourish).  Moreover, at different times in their complex friendship, both parties have shown a willingness to change out of love for the other: meaning there is still the possibility of healthy growth and healing.  I tag triggers diligently and always, and I make sure my writing partners are not feeling uncomfortable. 

 On the other hand, I will never write a toxic ship like Jessica Jones x Kilgrave. Why? Because he is a serial rapist with no remorse who shows no signs of repentance.  Because Jessica is his serial victim, and because she is a woman and he is a cis man. Because he literally has the power of mind control and she isn’t, until the very end of the first season, immune.  Right there we have an inequitable power dynamic that really can never be resolved, and probably shouldn’t, because pardoning the man of crimes so real and so severe to millions of survivors worldwide is just not something it’s worth it to do for a fun writing hobby.

Another example of a toxic ship I’d never write: a historical slave owner x a slave. Like, Thomas Jefferson x Sally Hemings (yes, people actually do this. believe it or not).  Not a good idea to try to render sympathetic and romantic a figure who participated in and benefited economically from the trafficking and abuse of human beings, the effects of which are still felt by black and brown people every day.  Do I even have to say, inequitable power dynamic, based both on gender and on race?  Plus it’s dangerous from a historical, cultural narrative standpoint to romanticize the institution of racism by sugar-coating some of its most infamous practitioners (America already has done this by ascribing “Founding Father” to Jefferson, who was frankly an asshole).  In this case you’re even blurring the lines of fiction and reality because these were real people that you’re “rping.”  

Summary!  Open, considerate communication is really important. The rules are different than when you’re writing a solo fanfic. You are collaborating with another human being, who has feelings and needs.  Always consider the power dynamic of the characters: “should I” is a dynamic question with very different answers, from fictional couple to fictional couple. 

You will make mistakes. I know I have.  Don’t berate yourself too severely, just ask what you did wrong, make a note of it, and move forward better aware of what not to do.
