technically this is not so much fanart of his fic as "we had a conversation and he did a fic about it and i did art about it", but i've been waiting on him to post first so that he could give context and i wouldn't have to lol. let the word guy do the word part, amiright?

To me, Dr. Ratio is like that one specific topic/subject that I'd force myself to read because of its importance for an exam and during the process, fall in love with it realizing its intricacies. I originally did not like him at all ; his snooty talking style and apparent lack of respect used to give me some not-so-kind flashbacks from middle school Math class.

He irked me so much that I had to start a fic with the exclusive wish of emotionally torturing him, which then spiralled into a long-fic because, as I was looking into his lore, I realized that there is practically nothing on his origin story besides that one letter from his teacher. How exactly did he come to harbor this specific ambition? How were his philosophies formed? How old is he? Does he still have a living family or, did he EVER? They don't tell us! And that drove me crazy.

It's honestly such a pity. When you look at all the theories about him and realize just how much potential he has and that the writers aren't utilizing it. He has maybe an hour worth of screentime from Crown of the Mundane and Divine and Penacony quest combined which I personally think is criminal. You look back on those scenes and find some info that has your brain malfunction for a second. What do you mean Ratio knew that the Astral Express could be used as a weapon and the whole deal about “Dormancy”? And they also never explain themselves after dropping these information!

Dr. Ratio is unfortunately one of the most mischaracterized characters in this game and as someone who used to be a part of that crowd, I just want to extend my solace to all Ratio lovers. As well as encourage anyone with similar feelings of dislike or, someone who currently does not understand him to spare some effort into studying him. Take your time and don't be discouraged, what matters most is that you start thinking.

Seriously chaotic fashion misadventures

I realized I posted a teaser and never really followed up on it, so here is some more of that

“Hey, Dami?”

Boy hadn’t looked up from the kittens he was bottle feeding but let out a hum indicating he listened.

“I'm thinking about trying out a more girlish style. Do you think it would suit me?”

Well, Damian had no idea but if Dani wished to give it a chance, then, well, the only proper reaction was to offer his aid.

“Father, I require access to your rouge gallery.”

Bruce almost choked on his breakfast when his youngest made this announcement.

Rouge gallery, as his children playfully called it, was vast collection of lipsticks, which he collected to uphold his Brucie persona. Famous playboy with head constantly in the clouds couldn’t not show up with discreet signs of scandal from time to time. And it couldn’t always be the same shade. Or scent when he choose more subtle approach and used one of his more feminine perfumes.

In all honesty, he enjoyed this.

But that’s not the point, point was that Damian wanted to use it and Bruce needed to know what disaster would fall upon him if he agreed.

“Mind telling me why, chum?”

Dick, who visited Manor for a weekend, barely stifled his laughter while Tim stared at his empty coffee mug like it personally betrayed him. Cass just wore her usual knowing and mischievous smile.

Damian shifted in his chair, hands clenching on butter knife. He was nervous and suddenly Bruce dreaded the answer he was about to hear.

“I don’t see how me sharing this information would change anything. It won’t be used to cause harm to anyone but it’s necessary in the extracurricular project I just started.”

“Dami, what project?” Dick asked, voice oozing with genuine curiosity and excitement. He was almost bouncing.

“I don’t want to disclose it.”

“Is this a hero or civilian type of deal?”

Damian didn’t look any of them in the eyes, both hands clenching on his seat as he kept shifting. Bruce narrowed his eyes. Was his youngest… flustered?

“Civilian”

“Alright, great” Dick swung back with single clap, almost tripping his chair over “I think B won’t have anything against you using his rouge gallery, will he?” Man knew his oldest son well enough to recognize his ‘don’t you dare to disagree’ tone. He was confused but there wasn’t any harm so he nodded with affirmative hum.

“Thank you, Father”

Boy practically inhaled rest of his food and rushed outside. Despite all his training and all his efforts, they clearly saw his excitement. Tim pinched himself and returned to staring at his mug.

“Cass, have you seen what I’ve seen or am I overreacting?” Dick asked, barely restraining his enthusiasm. Girl nodded eagerly, shoving more crumbs into her mouth. Young man cheered, throwing his hands up.

“What have I missed?” Tim mumbled, frowning a little.

“BABY BAT HAS A CRUSH!”

Cass nodded again with wide smile.

Oh.

Oh no.

Who were they? What did he know about them? Was Protocol 3r0s started? Did someone run a background check already? What could they do if they somehow hurt Damian? Was this person a risk to their identities? Oh gods, oh no.

He probably will have to do The Talk™.

He always dreaded having The Talk, with any of his kids. He felt The Talk with Damian would be even worse. Understandably so.

“Also sleep in at least three da-”

“Fuck off, dick.”

“Was this insult or-”

His children remained obvious to how much work it meant, cheering and sassing each other like they often did.

Damian did not know how it was possible but he lowered his guard enough to get caught.

"What are you doing?" Brown choked out after they stared at each other for a long moment.

"It does not concern you–"

"You're rummaging through my wardrobe, not many things concern me more and also, that's frickin creepy don't do it to anyone outside of the family"

She did have a point however he was not convinced it would be the correct approach if he shared his plan. Father's wards (even unofficial like Brown) tended to make assumptions and overreact based on these conjectures. Dani wasn't easy to scare off but he didn't want to check if his family would manage. They often did things thought to be impossible.

He tried to get away but the blonde stood fiercely in a door, leaving the window as the only way out. He wasn't this desperate. Yet.

Girl looked more and more angry at his silence. He had to give her some answers.

Now that he actually considered it, she could be a useful asset. She was far better versed in women's fashion and if he phrased it correctly, he wouldn't even need to bribe her. Question was, how should he phrase it?

"I have an acquaintance- I have a friend," he corrected himself "from the animal shelter I volunteer at. She mentioned wanting to try out more 'girlish style' and asked for my opinion. I wanted to see if you had any clothes that would fit her. She is smaller than me so I thought that whatever I take, it wouldn't be missed." 

Brown grinned with an unsettling gleam in her eyes. He suddenly regretted opening his mouth if not coming to this room in the first place. 

"Say no more, I have a plan Demon Child"

Minthara's Sudden Motherhood — A Narrative Concern in Patch 8

“To find a home… for myself… and my child.” “Murdering Orin… raising my daughter…” These two new lines in Patch 8 raise questions that go far beyond simple surprise.

Minthara was already a fully realized character in Baldur's Gate 3. She was cold, ambitious, loyal to power and ideals, and slowly opened up only through earned trust. Her development throughout the story was already complex and compelling. This is why the new dialogue introduced in Patch 8 was such a shock.

In this patch, two new lines were added to her Speak With Dead dialogue:

“To find a home… for myself… and my child.” “Murdering Orin… raising my daughter…”

These lines suggest that Minthara has a daughter—something never previously mentioned in the game. This revelation appears with no prior narrative setup: – Not in the main story, – Not in side quests, – Not in companion or romance dialogues.

Even for players who built deep relationships with Minthara, she never once references a child. The information arrives without buildup, reflection, or thematic support. It feels disconnected—and inconsistent.

🧠 Context & Trigger Conditions

These lines only appear under very specific, emotionally charged circumstances:

You must erase Minthara's identity (via Questioner Jasin and Sumera or directly),

Kill her,

Then cast Speak With Dead.

Only after all of that does the line about her being a mother appear. This raises a deeper concern:

Why is such important information only available after you erase and destroy her?

If this was a conscious narrative choice, it feels less like organic storytelling—and more like emotional manipulation.

⚠️ Possibly Accidental Content?

There’s evidence that this content may have been unintended. As of December 2023, datamined triggers showed that these lines were linked to:

These flags were never attached to active quests or content and seem to have been cut. There are no journal entries, no follow-up quests, no reactions from the player character—nothing.

This suggests old content may have been reintroduced by mistake, or hastily added without support.

�� Two Possible Interpretations

❌ If Minthara does have a daughter:

It contradicts her character. She’s cautious but honest with those she trusts.

A child would be too important to remain hidden—especially in a romance route.

Her main trait is ambition. If her greatest goal was her daughter, why is it never explored?

✔️ If she does not have a daughter:

Then this was metaphor, broken flag dialogue, or discarded narrative fragments.

Her arc—built on regret, survival, and earned connection—remains consistent.

It keeps her emotional development intact without contradictions.

⏳ Why This Matters

Had this content been added early in the game’s lifecycle, it might've been seen as expansion. But Patch 8 arrived almost two years after release, right before the definitive edition. This doesn't feel like natural development. It feels like a rewrite.

This isn't about resisting growth. It's about protecting what was already carefully built.

Minthara was already complex. Already compelling. Already complete.

She didn't need a child to be meaningful. She needed a story that believed in her as she was.

💬 A Personal Closing Note

I don't believe Minthara ever needed to be softened.

Her strength lies in how guarded she is with strangers and how unwavering she becomes with those she trusts. She shows vulnerability in her own way—quiet, private, and deeply earned. The contrast—from enemy to someone she could trust—or even love—was already powerful without extra sentimentality.

She didn't need fixing. She was already enough.

gale did say that he's known to try his hand at poetry in one of his very first dialogues, but him truly taking up writing, painting and knitting after the game ends is something i didn't know i needed until now
