[15/300] "Eating a sleeve of saltines in my underwear watching Carlito's Way!"
Man, when it hits you that you really like drinking alcohol but the thing you like drinking is a relatively lightweight cocktail and you get called out for it, it's like "Yeah, I know it's a basic AF cocktail. But it's MY basic AF cocktail of choice, mmmkay?" --- It was kinda funny to gauge my wife's reaction to my friend stealth-calling me out for being a "lightweight", but probably the funniest thing was, like, how I got oddly defensive about the whole thing. --- But screw it, y'know? Just like the concept of comfort food, a comfort drink is also a matter of choice and, again, I just drink one per occasion, if we were talking about drinking on the clock or something, yeah, I could see that being a problem, but I only have one every third or fourth day once I clock out of work, y'know? --- And again, it's a whiskey ginger! It's basically like drinking soda, only slightly funkier, y'know? Let an old fart enjoy his poison of choice. Most local beer doesn't even do a thing for me, so please, let me enjoy my goofy drink. Kisses + hugs, and I'll read you later, alligator!

listen nandor is a fucking liar as per usual because he absolutely doesn't have a problem killing his friends despite what he said about how much it would suck. i mean, he referred to patton oswalt as "my friend" and you saw how fast he pushed that bitch off a roof. let's not forget he also tried to kill the baron in the first season and absolutely loved that guillermo killed all the vampires he knew in that theatre for him. nandor only has a problem with killing his friends when it's guillermo

It's Wednesday! - Minor Threats Vol. II #4
The finale of Minor Threats: The Fastest Way Down came out yesterday but it won't be the last you've seen of these characters! News is out that it's coming to Netflix : D
This volume got to build out the world like few others I've worked on. As the issues grew, we had to go back and reference our own work to keep things straight. A background character here or there, might become a central figure in a new issue, and knowing that, any one could become something bigger in future issues.
Thank you to the entire team for being a joy to work with and a thank you to all the readers for following along with the series. I can't wait to see what's next!

Hello everyone!
Today I am delighted to present you the first of the series you were able to choose thanks to the survey done on my Instagram (@theaddictedwatcherreviews): Sandman! Series composed of 11 episodes released in August 2022, adapted for Netflix from Neil Gaiman’s eponymous comics, the series was a great success and I’m going to tell you why.
A short synopsis to introduce you to the series: Morpheus, the King of Dreams, is one of the seven Endless. While he finds himself captured by a British occultist for nearly 106 years, the Awakened world - that of Men - sinks into an epidemic of « sleep disease ». Indeed, since the Sand Merchant is no longer there to rule the world of Dreams, Men on Earth are sinking. However, he manages to escape and undertakes a journey through the two worlds to find what was stolen from him in order to rebuild his Kingdom, which finds itself in ruins following his long absence.
And a small technical presentation:
- Created by : Allan Heinberg
Based on Neil Gaiman’s graphic novels, Sandman, published between 1989 and 1996 by DC Comics
- Music by : David Buckley
- Main casting : Tom Sturridge, Vanesu Samunyai, Eddie Karanja, Boyd Holbrook, Vivienne Acheampong, Patton Oswalt, Mason Alexander Park, Razane Jammal, Sandra James-Young, David Thewlis.
When announcing the serial adaptation of the Sandman comics, Neil Gaiman said that he would be more involved than he was in the television adaptation of his novel American Gods (released in 2001 and adapted by the Starz channel in 2017), but less than in the adaptation of Good Omens (co-written with Terry Pratchett, published in 1990 and adapted by Prime Video and the BBC in 2019 to meet a posthumous request from Terry Pratchett). He was therefore part of the creative team, the executive production of the series and made important narrative changes with the team of authors compared to comics.
Indeed, the story begins in 2021 instead of 1989 in comics, and Morpheus/Dream -played by Tom Sturridge- was imprisoned for 106 years instead of 75. Other characters have also been adapted to correspond to current questions such as Doctor Destiny, who is embodied in the form of his alter ego John Dee -played by David Thewlis- or John Constantine who has been reinvented as a female character, Johanna Constantine - played by Jenna Coleman. The role of Matthew the Raven -played by Patton Oswalt- has also been expanded in the series so that Morpheus has someone to communicate his thoughts with, which was represented by bubbles in comics but is impractical to do in live-action. Allan Heinberg, the creator of the series, explains that for him « Sandman comics were ahead of everyone in the late 1980s in terms of the representation of women, race, sexuality and gender ». Neil Gaiman explained that he chose to remove various references to the DC universe - such as the presence of Martian Manhunter and Mister Miracle - because the Sandman series was moving away from the initial links with the DC universe. This will also avoid the potential implications that the series could have with other adaptations of DC Comics in the future.
One of the first remarks I will make would be about the quality of the casting choices to embody absolutely all of the characters -the heroes of the story as well as the antagonists. In the cast, I only knew the characters least present, which does not mean that they are characters of lesser importance. Indeed, you may recognize in the names of Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who), Stephen Fry (V for Vendetta), Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones, Wednesday), Mark Hamill (Star Wars), Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), Arthur Darvill (Doctor Who), Derek Jacobi (Gladiator, Doctor Who, The Borgias), Sandra Oh (Grey’s Anatomy, Killing Eve), James McAvoy (X-MEN, Split), Neil Gaiman himself or David Tennant and Michael Sheen (Good Omens). As for the most central characters in the story, like Morpheus -embodied by Tom Sturridge-, the Corinthian -played by Boyd Holbrook- or Lucienne -played by Vivienne Acheampong, it has been brought to my attention after having seen the series that I had previously seen them in various other productions but they hadn’t made a strong enough impression on me in these respective roles and I had all the pleasure to rediscover their talent fully in this series. Each and every actor and actress -whether they are main characters, secondary or even special guest- have been able to bring their own mark on their role, something that identifies their character with their signature. This is partly what makes this production very qualitative in the sense that not only is it very well interpreted but also unique enough to stand out from the thousands of other fantastic series that are released every year.
In addition, I would like to take a moment to talk about the artistic direction of the series. Sandra Phillips and Luc Whitelock, the two artistic directors of the series, did a phenomenal job. Whether on the special effects themselves or even simply on the light games, the camera angles, the different atmospheres from one episode to the next, contribute to creating a very characteristic atmosphere and aesthetic which reinforce its fantastic-horrific aspect. Because, make no mistake about the atmosphere, although the series is tinged with onism through the various worlds of the Endless, it is also imbued with a dose of horror and macabre in the world of the Awakened. Through this aesthetic dichotomy, the series shows the best and worst of humanity, how humans could -if we were to let ourselves be governed by our animal instincts- sink into self-destruction, chaos, violence and let all our worst flaws dominate us. I will not develop more but if you are sensitive -or curious- to what I am talking about, I am particularly refering to episode 5 of season 1 entitled 24/7…
During the creation of the series, David S. Goyer, Allan Heinberg and Neil Gaiman explained that they often discussed the following question: « Why is it essential to tell Sandman’s story now? » To which Allan Heinberg answered every time « Sandman is an exploration of what it means to be human. To be mortal and therefore vulnerable. Able to be hurt, but also able to love and be loved. Sandman is the story of an honorable and arrogant king who learns slowly, very slowly, to love. » David S. Goyer adds that the series is summarized as « the story of a god who, in the course of history, loses his divinity, becomes mortal and learns what it means to be mortal. This is the story of a really crapy dysfunctional family. The Endless, even if they are divine beings, all have their little quarrels. Some of them hate each other. Some love each other. It’s just that when they fight, it’s whole worlds and universes that suffer from it » and called it a melodrama. Morpheus is sometimes simultaneously a protagonist and a catalyst for the events of the series, he is a character who « cares about humanity in the abstract, but not in the concrete ».
I also would like to acknowledge the work on costumes done by Sarah Arthur who managed to give a strong visual signature to the characters and managed to make them stand out from each other while giving clues about the links between certain characters through small details slipped here and there into the costumes of the main characters.
Finally, as always, I will finish by telling you a little about the soundtrack of the series built by David Buckley. Not only do the different themes of the series make it possible to accentuate the different main characters as well as their intentions, but the music also makes it possible for the viewer to travel between the different worlds explored alongside Morpheus.
If there is one thing I must admit to the series distributed and produced by Netflix, it is that not a single one of the ones I have seen could be qualified to have a bad soundtrack. Although obviously I have not seen their entire catalog, I think I have seen enough to make this remark, which remains a subjective and personal opinion. Obviously you are free to disagree and please let me know if you do, I will discuss it with pleasure! But, at least at the moment I write these lines, none comes to mind.
I think I’ve talked enough to leave you here for this article on the Sandman series! I hope I made you want to at least take a look at this masterpiece!
Don’t forget to keep an eye every Saturday on my Instagram account (@theaddictedwatcherreviews) if you want to be able to choose the subject of the next article!
In the meantime, I wish you good viewings and I’ll see you very soon with new adventures!
Eli.

Here's an exterior shot of The Vanmoor Institute, which seeks out gifted kids for its projects, where Virgil will briefly be "The New Kid".
Tumblr media
Virgil is to work with Daisy Watkins and the twins Duncan and Henry on a project. It's easy to tell which of the three is the notable character.
Tumblr media
Two older students, who go by their nicknames Specs and Trapper, are to supervise them. Virgil had an encounter with them before this, where they tricked him about where to go. They're arrogant and are considered the 'pets' of the school's main funder.
Honestly, Specs looks rather like an evil Milo Thatch to me. Though that's the wrong Disney/Pixar protagonist to compare him to, given how he's voiced by a pre-Remy Patton Oswalt. Further side note: I don't know if the pattern on Specs' shirt is meant to be flowers or starfish. The timing seems a bit early for a Patrick reference, but I don't think it's impossible.
I'll talk more about Daisy and her dynamic with Virgil in a later post.

supernatural s7e11 adventures in babysitting (w. adam glass)
when this started i was like. is this... going to be a twilight new moon reference...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
which is my favorite scene in the series, it's my favorite adaptation of how the book did it (a blank page with just the month name for 3 pages in a row), and it's one of my most favorite and memorable usages of music in a movie.
youtube
while the circumstances are less permanent, new moon really hit for me with grief. and in fact i made a little parallel thing with this scene in spn s2e3 bloodlust (sera wrote that one) when sam and dean are in the thick of john just dying.
i wrote a little bit (under the cut) about my own parents deaths in the last episode and as ever this show pokes at my dead parents feelings and i'm not sure this episode is gonna go down with me. john dying was rough on me in that stirring up personal grief way, i'm hoping to not have a repeat of that experience.
(minor music rant, i think why it gets to me so much is because i am such a pushover and so easily emotionally manipulated by tv/movie music. *usually* if a show wants me to fell sad, they're gonna hit that button with music if nothing else. and i dislike it when i feel like i'm being manipulated. so to have a show not be able to hit that low bar, when i am already extremely emotionally connected to the show, THAT is notable. and not good. because like i said, i'm a cheap date. like just for a second there i felt that real sadness with this generic sad piano score happening as we go from sam and dean arguing and deciding to work different jobs to sam knocking on the kid's door. it was right there! but it petered out as soon as it came. -- edited to add: not surprisingly, it's a jay gruska ep)
Tumblr media
wolverine, is that you?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
teen wolf s3e8 visionary - madison mclaughlin as paige krasikeva
i thought the kid looked familiar, paige in teen wolf?? baby derek had to mercy kill her
Tumblr media
surely dude would have a scarred up arm by now, with the number of times he's slicing himself. on the same wavelength again, i also suggested this little test back in episode 6 :p
FRANK Do I look like I know? You think it's easy to see this deep into what's real and also be bipolar with delusional ideation? There is no pill for my situation, sweetiepop, so, yeah, best guess – the bigmouths are onto me. Next question.
cue reading the delusional disorder wiki page, i didn't realize delusions could come without other symptoms of psychosis
Tumblr media
so i think i've seen stuff he's been in but nothing jumping out worth grabbing a picture of. but he keeps pinging a) tom sizemore b) that he's somehow related to mark sheppard/crowley c) patton oswalt.
FRANK Got the equipment arranged. Come and get your costume on. We can scoot. DEAN "Costume"? What?
okay, that was cute.
not cute for me, the bumbling around on the cherry picker -_-
SAM (on phone) Dean, hey. So I think this guy was hunting a Vetala. Um, Dad took one down back in the day. Silver knife to the heart, twist, they're done. He says they're maladjusted loner types – like to knock a guy out, drag him home, feed slow. So, if Krissy's dad got grabbed, there's a chance he might still be alive. Be nice to get this girl's dad back home to her, you know? All right, I could use your help. Call me.
hitting us over the head with the point again. GOOD TO GET A DAD BACK TO THEIR KID HUH
Tumblr media
you just said you could use dean's help.. but you went alone anyway and got jumped (very easily i might add) and bitten? great decision making, sam
DEAN How long was I out? FRANK 'Bout 36 hours.
excuse me WHAT. what a cheap way to add a bunch of tension and conflict that's also completely not believable. i don't care how sleep deprived he was, unless there was some medical condition happening there IS NO WAY.
FRANK Did I mention you look awful? DEAN Yes. Maybe because somebody I cared about just got shot in the head. And this is like shoving a rock up a hill. And – screw you. FRANK Here's my advice you didn't ask for – quit. DEAN What? FRANK You want to keep going? DEAN I want Dick Roman on a spit. FRANK But you're gonna drive yourself into the ground first. Good plan. DEAN I'm not gonna quit. It's not even an option. I'm not gonna walk out on my brother.
not totally sure how quitting equates to walking out on sam, but okay. oh wait, was he saying quit hunting altogether? (that totally went over my head, i just am realizing now after finishing the episode and rereading before posting lol)
Tumblr media
KRISSY My dad left, and he didn't come back. Sam left, and he didn't come back. I give you the info, you leave, you don't come back.
she makes a good case and we get awkward roadtrip with kid for dean
DEAN Because I hunted one that turned out to be two a couple years back. KRISSY And you never told Sam? Wow, thanks. How 'bout sharing that with the rest of the class so we don't all get killed? DEAN Sam was away at Stanford, smartass.
okay but what? if sam was at school then john was alive and somehow dean never got that information to john so he'd update his journal? i don't think there's a gap that this could have worked in when john was dead but sam wasn't with dean for long enough to do a hunt/not talk about it. weird.
anyway probably just a segue to bring up college with the kid.
Tumblr media
KRISSY So... Guess I'm retiring – one and done. DEAN Really? How you feel about that? KRISSY Who knows? Maybe I'll go to Stanford like Sam. KRISSY We're so lame. DEAN Yeah, we are. Take care of yourself.
that was sweet.
Tumblr media
SAM You know what? Good for them. DEAN Yeah. It's nice to walk away from someone and feel like they could be okay. How about you? How you doing? You all right? SAM No. I'm definitely not. But, you know, I mean, um, I think, maybe... I just want to work. SAM Should I even ask? DEAN I'm fine. SAM "Fine," meaning...? DEAN You're right. We should just... work, right? And figure out a way to kick Dick Roman's ass. Well, hey, we are the professionals.
obstinate as dean can be about some things, he sure will take other people's advice to heart and start implementing it. though faking the smiles for that long while driving was creepy and sad
is it too much to ask for sera gamble to unironically like twilight???

"Weird: The Al Yankovic Story" is a bonafide masterpiece. A glorious parody of hagiographic biopics, we follow Al through a fictionalized version of his life and rise to stardom. At every turn, the degree to which it is fictionalized gets weirder and more extreme, until, without meaning to spoil too much, it reaches a glorious extravaganza of action and violence.
The movie was produced in part by Funny Or Die, and I guess they'll live another day, because Weird is very, very funny. Along with the typical silliness and absurdity you'd expect from a movie like this, it's also riddled with hilarious in-jokes and references to Al's career and to famous moments in rock history that provide a deeper layer to the comedy. That said, even if you know very little about those moments, the surface-level jokes more than carry the film. It's a laugh a minute basically from minute one.
The movie uses Al's music in pitch-perfect ways. We get to see (a highly fictionalized version of) him writing and performing some of the big hits of his career, and these scenes are consistently incredible. I took away a new appreciation for every one of those songs - the moment he whips out "I Love Rocky Road" feels downright transcendant.
Daniel Radcliffe as Weird Al Yankovic is inspired casting. I didn't get it, and then I saw the movie, and I immediately got it within two scenes of him showing up on screen. He perfectly fits the weird, geeky nature of Weird Al, but has no problem rolling with the punches as the fame gets to him and he spirals wildly out of control. Absolutely perfect for the kind of larger than life vibe this movie is going for. I'm not gonna lie, I'm a sucker for Radcliffe (if you haven't seen Guns Akimbo, you should see Guns Akimbo) but he is impeccable in this. As is Riann Wilson giving an aptly demented turn as Doctor Demento. Evan Rachel Wood's Madonna is another gloriously ridiculous performance.
More generally, name a quirky actor or musician you love seeing in movies, and odds are they have a cameo here. Jack Black's turn as Wolf Man Jack is of particular note, in case you needed a reminder that Jack Black is an extremely sexy man who effortlessly owns every scene he's in. Small part, but the charisma on display... Woof. Also, Patton Oswalt shows up for a cameo. I just love seeing that guy in movies.
The lighting and cinematography also deserves special mention. It's all lit and shot in ways to make things look larger than life and surreal, with bright, flashy colors. It's not realistic, but it's not supposed to be. The overall vibe is incredibly effective.
This isn't a perfect movie. There are plot beats involving Al's family that, while needed for the story arc, don't mesh well with the rest of the tone or pace. The way it handles certain beats, while hilarious, are kinda problematic (most notably, it does Madonna pretty dirty and she was not consulted). But when I think about the movie, I don't think of that. I think of the absurdly funny and cathartic "My Bologna" scene, or how much of an incredible heel Madonna is. I think of Pablo Escobar. I think of the wealth of obscenely funny one-liners.
Weird is a comedy treasure. The end credits song notes that it's "technically eligible for Oscar consideration", and frankly, just give Weird Al Yankovic a fucking Oscar, he deserves it. If you like comedy, Daniel Radcliffe, Weird Al, or classic rock history, you owe it to yourself to catch this one.

I was scrolling through the notes on a post you reblogged an hour ago about Ratatouille and saw your comment, I was curious if you perhaps were confusing Patton Oswalt (voice of Remy in Ratatouille) with Sean Astin (Bob Newby in Stranger Things)
youtube
Unfortunately no, it is definitely Patton Oswalt I'm referring to. Here's a link to the panel I mentioned.
https://youtu.be/4E11rAbUyVY
Oswalt was acting as host for this panel. The incident I referred to happens at around 7:15 (timestamp). Finn and the other cast members mostly laughed it off, but I and many others found it an incredibly inappropriate joke to make about a young teenager to his face, and especially to keep running with. I was never a huge fan of Oswalt to begin with but after that, I can't stand him.

What’s wrong with people? All they want to yak about is their kids or places they’ve traveled to or divorces or affairs or encounters they’ve had in bars or at weddings or family reunions. Don’t they want to talk about the movies of the newly rediscovered French crime master Jean-Pierre Melville, or the Dogme 95 movement, or the dozen or so hidden references in the latest Tarantino film? --Patton Oswalt/Silver Screen Fiend

Movie phrases that aren't a thing
It was windy here the other day, and we were talking about a movie, The Holiday, where Jack Black tells Kate Winslet that "when the Santa Ana's blow, anything can happen." The Santa Ana winds are warm winds that blow from over the mountains that surround LA.
Now, I was born and raised in the LA area... I've lived my entire life here, and when I heard him say that line, I was like: What? I've never heard that in my entire life.
I don't know why the writers chose to throw that line in, but they did.
It brought to mind another line from the movie Young Adult with Charlize Theron, Patton Oswalt and Patrick Wilson where she refers to Minneapolis as "the mini apple", I suppose in contrast to "The Big Apple". I asked a friend from the Twin Cities area if they referred to Minneapolis this way, and she told me she'd never heard that in her life.
I don't know why these things get put into movies. Maybe it's a way of creating a convincing character- someone who has genuine idiosyncrasies, not sure. The Italian phrase "dolce far niente" is along those lines. It's an actual phrase, but I've never heard anyone use it while I was in Italy. I think it's more of a movie thing.
Of course, phrases do come into, and go out of, usage, so it's possible that it was in usage once, but not anymore.
And apropos of nothing in this post, an instagram account started showing up recently, where a stoic looking Norwegian guy would say stuff about Norway in a deadpan manner. I think the first one was a joke that went: In Norway, we don't have to knock on the door. But I recommend it or else you can be standing for a very long time.
Well, I thought that was funny. If I can find the account, I'll link to it.  found it!

Kyle Kinane Stand Up - Porch Party
If you don't know who this comedian is, you have to check him out now!In this Kyle Kinane Stand Up Short, One of Kyle Kinane's most popular jokes is his infamous Chicago party joke, which details a police officer who attempts an undercover job at a party only to realize that he had forgotten to put his street clothes on. The punchline and the audience's reaction are always uproarious. As the story begins, a typical kids' party is in full swing with children happily engaged in their activities. But when they see an officer of the law arriving at the door, pandemonium ensues as fear and panic set in! Kinane uses his witty delivery and clever wordplay to make everyday experiences feel extraordinary. He is a master of observational comedy and utilizes pop culture references often in his sets. He has gained a reputation for his unique style of storytelling that is both hilarious and thought-provoking, leaving audiences with plenty of material to ponder after the show ends. Kinane's comedic style focuses on incorporating stories from his personal life into stand-up sets, as well as taking real-world events such as politics and societal issues and exploring them through the lens of comedy. Despite his lighthearted approach, Kinane never shies away from tackling difficult issues like depression, anxiety, and addiction head-on. His honest approach to comedy has earned him praise from critics who have dubbed him one of the best storytellers in modern stand-up comedy. Kinane rose to fame with his television debut on The Nanny, playing the part of "Young Roger Clinton." Following this success, he released Death of the Party in 2010 - an album filled with witty comedy and recorded at an Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. His skillful artistry earned him recognition from Variety as one of their Ten Comics to Watch in 2010. Kinane's longstanding bond with Comedy Central stretches back to 2011 when he became the channel's official voice for their on-air announcements. On February 25, 2011, his first 30-minute special was featured as a part of "Comedy Central Presents". Besides this, Kinane has made multiple appearances in other popular shows such as Drunk History (wherein he narrated the story of the Haymarket affair while drunk), u/midnight where he won seven times, and TripTank - an animated series that aired in 2014. In 2012, Kinane released his first stand-up comedy DVD special entitled 'Whiskey Icarus'. His second major release came three years later in 2015 - titled "I Liked His Old Stuff Better". As well as these two popular releases, he's also graced the stage of television programs like Last Call with Carson Daly, Live at Gotham, and Conan. He has even opened for notable comedians Patton Oswalt and Daniel Tosh on tour!

Lisa Gilroys Tearful Callout Of Her Misbehaving Followers Takes Surprising Flip
Lisa Gilroy most likely isn’t crying now. The comic has gone viral for what gave the impression to be a tearful account of a foul expertise with some disrespectful followers. It earned her plenty of love from fellow humorous individuals Jenna Fischer, Josh Gad, Patton Oswalt and David Cross. But it surely’s not what you suppose. Watch a sniffling Gilroy (beneath) discuss inviting 5 of her fortunate followers to spend the day along with her on the set of her new present ― and the way it “went so badly.” “It ought to have been a enjoyable time for all of us, however I feel generally individuals neglect I’m not only a persona or an ‘influencer.’ I’m an actual particular person,” she mentioned. “So I made the error of assuming that these individuals had been going to deal with me with respect, the studio with respect, the workers there with respect. And I used to be so flawed.” By the point she complains in regards to the one man who drank from the chocolate river although it was prohibited, and one other who introduced alongside their grandpa, you’ll be able to most likely see the place within the Willy Wonka that is going. Fischer, Gad, Oswalt and Cross referred to as consideration to her sly piece of labor: Presumably, Gilroy gained’t be inviting any followers to take a journey within the nice glass elevator. #Gravity falls full episodes for free series
But that is right and good! Monsters in genre stories can be allegories for bigger things, but if we always force them to signify more than what they are, we risk missing the stories that are being told without being dressed up in fangs and claws. It means so little that, to quote Wendy from another episode on this list, it is literally too dumb for anyone to care about. The Summerween Trickster (Jeff Bennett) is not terrorizing children every summer because its plight-being made up of “loser candy” that no one actively likes- means anything.
#Gravity falls full episodes for free series
She’s cheating at LIFE.” - Alexis GundersonĪside from letting Alex Hirsch sneak a Halloween episode into a series stuck forever in June and July, “Summerween” serves, to my mind, one purpose: To remind everyone (hi) who watches cleverly assembled genre stories (…) and spends hours trying to articulate the deep meaning behind it all (I mean), that sometimes a dumb monster is just a dumb monster. All that mattered was the tiny, tiny, adorably deadly turf war amongst Gravity Falls’ bloodthirstiest sports equipment, Mabel and Pacifica’s burgeoning respect for each other’s strengths, and Dipper’s pithy reminder of how failing to correlate personal achievement with generational wealth is a real mistake: “Pacifica’s rich, Mabel. This early in Season Two we didn’t know the degree to which deeply entrenched, deeply stupid rivalry would end up being one of the series’ Big Themes, but when Patton Oswalt’s Lilli puttian putt-putt ball avatar, Franz, rolled into Dipper and Mabel’s lives and gave tiny, unsettlingly toothy mini-golf shape to the well-established rivalry between our dear, doofy Mabel and rich kid mean girl, Pacifica Northwest (Jackie Buscarino), that didn’t matter. And be sure to enter our giveaway for the chance to win one of three Collector’s Edition boxed sets, including 18” x 24” lithographs. To celebrate the series’ legacy-and its triumphant return, in the form of Shout! Factory’s expansive Blu-ray/DVD boxed set, Gravity Falls: The Complete Series Collector’s Edition- Paste is proud to present our ranking of Gravity Falls 20 best episodes. The siblings’ loving rapport, which also features its fair share of frustration and hurt feelings, gives ballast to the series’ strangest interludes, as Dipper tries to find the truth behind an occult journal he discovers, Mabel tries to find true love, and Stan tries to find a way to keep his secrets hidden from the young ones. As Dipper and Mabel soon learn, despite the blasé attitudes of good-natured employees Soos Ramirez (Hirsch) and Wendy Corduroy (Linda Cardellini), Stan’s tourist trap, the Mystery Shack, is the epicenter of paranormal occurrences that’d make Fox Mulder weep.
