Contra toda cancelación y expectativa previa: Ariel Pink en Montevideo

Con dos fechas a sala llena, el controversial Ariel Pink regresó a Uruguay después de una década, pero Incluso Si Es Un Susurro Soviético y Period Bomb se robaron el show

Lo que empezó con la iniciativa de Fede Cáceres (Incluso Si Es Un Susurro Soviético) de comentar banderas uruguayas en el Instagram de Ariel Pink para lograr que el referente del indie americano llegara al país, finalmente se concretó en dos noches a sala llena en Bluzz Bar.

Con un sábado agotado con exagerada anticipación, el equipo detrás de la llegada de Pink redobló la apuesta agregando una nueva función el domingo, repitiendo el pintoresco lineup que ofreció de todo: indie, new wave, punk, post punk, armonías y ruido.

Si bien la noche del domingo ameritaba una hora de inicio adelantada, la puntualidad uruguaya hizo de las suyas y tocó esperar afuera hasta que los artistas terminaran de probar sonido. A pesar del frío, la hora de "hacer puerta" ayudó a los debutantes a hacernos una idea de lo que nos esperaba, en base al relato de quienes llegaban a Canelones y Ciudadela por un segundo plato de Ariel Pink, resumida en algunas premisas fuertes:

Pink había hecho un desastre en Chile después de que la producción local lo obligara a tocar sin su bajista australiano, rebotado en el aeropuerto por falta de visa. Ya con las cuatro cuerdas de siempre, en Buenos Aires y Montevideo había sonado bien.

A pesar de sus incontables cancelaciones, tiene su gente en Uruguay. Parece que el sábado fue el club de fans entero y no dejó una canción sin corear.

Nos habíamos perdido el networking del indie rioplatense que había desencadenado la presencia de Santiago Motorizado y Pablo Kemper de Las Ligas Menores.

Period Bomb nos iba a dejar de cara.

"El Susu" estaba sonando cada vez más fuerte.

La última fue la afirmación más certera y pudimos comprobarlo apenas el reloj dio las 21.

Con banda completa, Incluso Si Es Un Susurro Soviético representó a Tacuarembó en 30 minutos furiosos que, a oídos de alguien encariñado con su repertorio, no duraron lo suficiente.

Fede Morosini y Diego de Hangwire cumplieron con la cuota de invitados, mientras que el regreso de Nati (había estado ausente en las primeras fechas del Montevideo Soviet Tour) elevó completamente la performance de la banda, tanto desde su voz como detrás de los sintetizadores. Además, la artista interpretó una canción de su proyecto Julia Lunar, regalándonos uno de los momentos más destacados de la noche.

Al ritmo de "Policía", los Incluso se despidieron de un fin de semana soñado en donde continuaron consagrando su lugar en la grilla montevideana, compartiendo con amigos, colegas y referentes.

"Es un show para ver en primera fila", me dijeron mientras los Period Bomb subían al escenario y yo, ingenua, les hice caso. Sobre la tarima me esperaba una puesta en escena que buscando ser disruptiva rozaba lo grotesco.

El trío de Miami es una banda enteramente pensada para el vivo, por más material grabado que tengan. Un bajo agresivo y protagonista acompaña a la batería cumplidora, pero ambos son inevitablemente opacados por Cam Alvarez.

Única chica del grupo, Alvarez se muestra provocativa y desacatada. De medias blancas, bombacha a cuadros y dos mallas superpuestas que no tienen la intención de cubrirla, Alvarez canta con un micrófono de vincha (a-la-Britney, en sintonía con el vinilo rojo de su indumentaria); aunque más que cantar grita, mientras araña su guitarra con un tornillo, en una performance masturbatoria que se prolongó por más de 40 minutos.

El ritmo punk engancha a la audiencia, pero el aporte de Alvarez al menjunje resulta en una absoluta disonancia. Es como si, en su cruzada por incomodar, hubiesen querido darle la razón a los puritanos que catalogaban todo rock como ruido.

Los gustos son subjetivos y hoy Montevideo se posiciona como la ciudad donde más se los escucha en Spotify, ya sea por curiosidad morbosa o fanatismo. Para quien escribe, Period Bomb fue una cachetada demasiado violenta para una noche de domingo. En especial sabiendo que después le seguía un onírico Pink.

No me malinterpreten, nadie milita más la filosofía de "separar el arte del artista" que yo. Mis playlists no sobrevivirían una inspección de cancelación y sin embargo soy capaz de disfrutar de la música y el talento de sus intérpretes sin asociarla a los delitos que se les achacan. Dicho esto, Ariel Pink no me cae bien.

Ahora que leo estas líneas, seguramente sea porque no lo escucho, por ende las acusaciones de abuso e incitación a la violencia que acumula suenan más fuerte en mis oídos que sus discos. Pero no me gusta cerrarme antes de haber escuchado a alguien en vivo, por lo que intenté dejar los prejuicios en la helada madrugada del (ya) lunes, antes de volver a ingresar a Bluzz.

Dentro del amplio abanico de géneros y matices que el músico ha explorado a lo largo de su trayectoria, Ariel Pink y banda decidieron brindar un auténtico show de pop en su regreso a Montevideo. Las armonías de las voces perfectamente sincronizadas de Pink y su guitarrista tiñeron las canciones de un halo beatlero, transportándonos de inmediato a una emisora de radio cualquiera en pleno boom del hipismo.

Sin embargo, luego del torbellino Period Bomb, la performance de Pink fue entre chata y lúgubre. Prácticamente no habló, mantuvo la mirada clavada en el piso y el pelo descuidadamente sobre la cara, como aburrido. La postura era incongruente en contraste con los sintetizadores bailables y los aplausos de la audiencia, pero Pink ni se inmutó.

Bajo el escenario, el alto volumen de músicos reafirmó un secreto a voces: Ariel Pink es un artista extremadamente influyente para toda la oleada indie que inunda las bateas virtuales desde hace ya unos años. Es "el referente" por más cancelado que esté y aunque no faltaron detractores quejándose en Twitter, fueron más los que obedecieron el llamado a esta misa alternativa. Espero que el show haya estado a la altura de sus expectativas.

never understood why jack had a portrait of moxxi up in his casino. the place went under after BL2, and at that point they hadnt been together for years. and its not like what they had together was particularly happy or long lasting, either. they were together for maybe a month before breaking up pre-TPS, and thats not even mentioning what happens between them during the game itself, so... maybe its a trophy? it doesnt feel like one when theres also one of angel. but its all i really got because presumably hes been in a much happier relationship with nisha for years, even though the portrait does feel too sentimental for a woman hes hated for the past Forever. speaking of nisha, there's no portrait of her or his wives. which is doubly weird because surely theyd be here too if moxxi is. idk, moxxi and angel are just a strange pair to have it just be them. by themselves is fine, moxxi alone is easily a trophy. and imo its just weird for a portrait of angel to be in the casino in the first place. some secret siren, huh? but together? idk. it gives mixed messages.
