So I’ve been talking to my husband and boyfriend recently about how much energy I have in terms of a percentage. And then I realized it might be helpful to express it with context- so I made this chart.
Energy Scale:
(This is entirely disregarding tricks such as inducing anxiety, adrenaline, or dissociation. This also disregards motivation and pain, which may affect capabilities)
5% - Put me to bed, I'm so tired. I'm swaying obviously if I stand and my limbs feel heavy.
10% I should be sitting at least. Probably swaying or trembly while standing. Mental work is possible, but only very slowly.
15% I can stand up and walk around decently. I can make myself simple food or do light cleaning that does not involve bending down or lifting anything heavy. I tend to be here a lot. Mental work is possible, and I often will do it.
20% I can do a task! Hooray! It needs to be a relatively gentle task. I tend to overdo it here and get all shaky cause I choose a task that it too intense or too lenthy.
25% I can do a task and Not collapse right after. Cooking or cleaning for half an hour is doable, though I might be panting by the end.
30% I can do something that makes me pant a little and recover from it without flopping. Could go for a walk without ulterior motivation to do so.
35% This is usually where I start planning elaborate tasks. "I'll clean the whole downstairs!" I cannot complete this. But I will make a good headway.
40% I can do things that involve a bit of exercise without feeling terrible. A treadmill walk, a cleaning that involves a lot of up and down, even that requires going up and down the stairs.
45% I might want to do some things to expend energy at this point. Wanting to go outside, to do a social and physical activity like roller skating, or to walk around a historic site or museum.
50% Oh heck, I'm doing so well! I have energy to exist with and energy to spare! I can put Two physical tasks on my list. Maybe a walk to the dog park And deep cleaning the bathrooms. And I won't have to flop for hours afterwards!
55% If I only have mental tasks to do I'll get antsy and do some physical movement spontaneously. I can do an activity that causes panting and sweating for up to half an hour without strong external motivation.
60% A task that takes multiple hours and expends low to medium variable effort won't exhaust me. I am genuinely capable of cleaning the downstairs Without it being the Only thing I do that day.
65% I might seek out physical movement and tasks that tire me out enjoyably. Trampolining, jogging, dancing, all possible intermittently for up to an hour. I'll need breaks, but I won't flop afterwards.
70% I barely know what to do with myself I'm so capable. I may pick medium-low intensity tasks, like cooking, that last 5+ hours, and pair them with a medium or high intensity physical task for a shorter period of time.
75% I don't have problems completing even a quite long task list. I can go shopping, and come home and put away groceries, then clean the kitchen while making dinner. And I'll be fine after dinner with enough left over to clean up the meal.
80% I genuinely need at least one of my tasks this day to be physically tiring. Think when I get all giggly and pace around stomping and wiggling. That is a temporary 80%.
85% Something difficult like rennovations or yard work is a welcome and very doable task, even for 4+ hours, provided I have enough water and a few lil breaks.
90% I can sprint and enjoy it. I may not be capable of sprinting far, but the wind in my face and the movement in my body is Thrilling! I may even do multiple bursts of it.
95% I can take on the world. Throw any task at me. Better yet, throw a Hard task at me. See how much of the house I can clean in an hour, see if I can do a hundred yard dash, put me on a heckin sports field and I might like it.
100% What does this even look like? Playing a physical sport for a few hours and then after a break wanting to go out and do it again? Racing a dog, skipping through a forest, thriving in the sunshine and light of the gorgeous world?

REVIEWING THE CHARTS: 27/07/2024 (Jimin, JADE, Eminem)
Once again, Sabrina Carpenter is at #1 - it’s the fourth non-consecutive week for “Please Please Please”. Otherwise, it’s a pretty fun, short week - possibly the first of quite a few this Summer - so welcome back to REVIEWING THE CHARTS!
Tumblr media
content warning: language, references to disability and bigotry towards wheelchair users
Rundown
As always, we start with the notable dropouts, songs exiting the top 75 - which is what I cover - after five weeks in the region or a peak in the top 40. This week, we bid farewell to not just all the football songs from last week bar “Dancing in the Dark”, all of which I feel like I don’t need to mention because they’re basically seasonal, but also a small selection of “Renaissance” by Eminem, “us.” by Gracie Abrams featuring Taylor Swift and “CHIHIRO” by Billie Eilish. Where the chaos really shows up on this chart, however, is what actually stuck around.
So, occasionally, weeks happen on the UK Singles Chart where songs up above drop out or freefall thanks to their “chart ratio” changing to accelerated, which essentially crunches their real streaming numbers and can lead to the chart having a lot of movement in that week when they all coincidentally fall into this period. However, there’s not exactly an influx of new songs waiting for this to happen, and those bubbling under the top 75 haven’t gotten that much traction, so instead we have a bit of a bizarre week where new songs debut higher than they probably should and we have tons of notable gains and returns. As for the re-entries, this includes “Pick Up the Phone” by PAWSA featuring the late Nate Dogg at #74, “Viva la Vida” by Coldplay at #73, “Addicted” by Zerb, The Chainsmokers and Ink at #70, “Ain’t No Love in Oklahoma” by Luke Combs at #68, “places to be” by Fred again.., Anderson .Paak and CHIKA at #54 and “the boy is mine” by Ariana Grande at #53. On the other hand, there are tons of boosts for a mixed bag that includes “Alibi” by Sevdaliza, Pabllo Vittar and Yseult at #60, “I Love You, I’m Sorry” by Gracie Abrams at #58, “You & Me” by Disclosure featuring Eliza Doolittle at #57, “6 in the Morning” by Flex featuring the late Nate Dogg at #56, “Miles on It” by Kane Brown and Marshmello at #55, “Evergreen” by Richy Mitch & the Coal Miners at #52, “These Words” by Badger and Natasha Bedingfield at #51, “Pink Skies” by Zach Bryan at #43, “Set My Heart on Fire” by Majestic, The Jammin Kid and Céline Dion at #40, “Red Wine Supernova” by Chappell Roan at #39, “Birds ij the Sky” by NewEra at #35, “misses” by Dominic Fike at #34, “Move” by Adam Port, Stryv and Malachiii at #25, “Happier” by The Blessed Madonna featuring Clementine Douglas at #24, “Red Wine Supernova” and “HOT TO GO!” by Chappell Roan at #39 and #19, “Apple”and “360” by Charli xcx at #23 and #18, and finally, “Kisses” by BL3SS and CamrinWatson featuring bbyclose at #13. Phew.
The top five should look somewhat refreshed thanks to some ACR hits and some relatively newer hits rolling in. Firstly, we have Myles Smith at #5 with “Stargazing”, but a much more obviously new track is at #4, as Jimin debuts high with the track “Who”, which for those who don’t follow the charts as religiously or aren’t in the K-pop bubble are probably asking. He’s from BTS, we’ll have more on him later. At #3, which a lot of people will be very happy about, is Chappell Roan with “Good Luck, Babe!” whilst trailing behind Sabrina at #2 we get the similarly sapphic “BIRDS OF A FEATHER” by Billie Eilish. Of course, Sabrina’s still at the top, so let’s look at what ended up below to see if any of these new tracks are worth sticking around, though most of these have already planted themselves in the top 40 so it seems more than likely. As for what has yet to get there…
New Entries
#50 - “WILDFLOWER” - Billie Eilish
Produced by FINNEAS
The only debut we have for this episode that landed outside of the top 40 is actually a late entry for an album cut from Billie Eilish’s latest record, HIT ME HARD AND SOFT, which I admittedly don’t revisit very often despite really liking it on release. “WILDFLOWER” is around the middle of the album and hits especially hard after “BIRDS OF A FEATHER”. In “WILDFLOWER”, Eilish comforts a woman she had seen experience a rough breakup but eventually forms a relationship with said ex-partner, though the morality of that is up to question and Eilish feels somewhat guilty about having those feelings. That line in the first verse, “I wasn’t there but I know”, is so essential because it frames Eilish as an outsider, who only really saw one part of that relationship during that period, and is now getting to experience what she would have when she was with this person. That extended closeness and vulnerability with her friend not only strengthened her bond with Eilish but also, in a twisted way, Eilish’s relationship with the ex-partner, and I think it actually seems up to interpretation whether this song is directly addressed to her partner who broke her friend’s heart or whether it may actually change perspectives, I think you could do a great deal of analysis there, and the constant use of changing pronouns, whilst clearly necessary for a personal song, make those feelings of guilt feel multiplied and caving in on Eilish. I love the distant indie folk guitars being at a dissonance with the clean, echoing vocals Eilish is known for, and that chorus is heartbreaking. Both the first and second verse start with common post-breakup platitudes that make it appear as if Eilish is attempting to float these feelings off as meaningless, but that image of her is implanted whenever Eilish spends time with her new partner, even adding details about her clothing that make this feel incredibly real. That whispering bridge wherein she pits the love they now feel and how this partner has no intent to hurt her with the knowledge that they very much did hurt someone who is incredibly close to her at a vulnerable moment is honestly both a rough listen and read, it’s a resoundingly effective track about complex subject matter that should feel wordy and difficult to put into song but the Eilish siblings have made so loose and concise by evoking the most instinctual thoughts and feelings as the most constant, giving it a really overwhelming feel. This is the first of two absolutely fantastic songs debuting this week, and is definitely the more respectable opinion I have as, surprisingly enough, those two songs are consecutive. Oh, dear.
#38 - “Brand New Dance” - Eminem
Produced by Eminem and Luis Resto
Sigh, this won’t earn me any friends in the disabled community. Okay, so I’ve been vocal - especially recently - about my love for the silly, obnoxious and frankly confusing 2004 album from Eminem, Encore, and 20 years later, Em has released an album that not only resembles that album but features a song intended for release on it. The Death of Slim Shady, which I have discussed in-depth for the past two weeks here, uses some older vocal recordings to help it feel like Slim Shady, the one Em fans grew up with, is still rapping, and they use a lot of filtering and layering between the two voices to not just make the mix sound grainy and confused - which could be intentional or not, I have no idea - but also emphasise the album’s concept that Em and Slim are competing for room in Marshall’s head and will flash in and out of rapping in one personality or the other. “Brand New Dance” is a Slim Shady-led song that features basically no involvement from a sane Marshall, and is pre-empted by the track “Trouble”, where you hear the two struggling and insulting each other for 40 seconds, as Slim forces Em to down some pills and start making fun of quadriplegics, specifically one that any Eminem fan will be very familiar with: Christopher Reeve, or “Reeves” as Shady often says for the sake of the rhyme. Throughout his wilder moments, Reeve, an actor who played Superman before moving to activism as the result of being involved in an equestrian accident that leaves him in a wheelchair, is mentioned by Eminem, and this is especially true for Encore, including my favourite ever track from him, “Rain Man”, which basically has an entire verse explaining Shady’s love for Superman being torn away when he saw that he was disabled, and he feels guilty about it. Early tracklists for Encore including a song called “Christopher Reeves”, which was then taken off due to the actor’s passing that same year. 20 years later, here it is.
Under the possession of Slim Shady, a largely unaltered recording from 2004 plays, newly entitled “Brand New Dance”, which uses horse neighing and clopping in the beat and functions as a diss track to Reeve, by way of creating a dance fad that involves re-enacting the accident and pretending to be disabled, instructing his audience to “do the Christopher Reeves”. Jesus Christ. When I frame it like that, it seems awful, and given the fact that he’s been dead for nearly two decades now, it still is awful but there’s something so interesting to fixating on Reeve, much like the way he fixates on Caitlyn Jenner for the rest of the album. They’re irrelevant figures known arguably for things outside of their control rather than their careers, becoming easy targets for Slim Shady and demonstrating just how washed the guy is, and hence why he needs to die. In album context, hearing this bizarre beat that mixes the horse sounds with similarly flittery percussive sounds to those used in “My 1st Single” and obnoxious synth buzz, alongside some choral vocals, after a few tracks of semi-serious horror-themed production, does a great job at separating Shady from Em but also takes you by surprise. I know on first listen that I was basically dumbfounded to why and how this was included, and didn’t really understand fully until he literally explains half the album later on “Guilty Conscience 2” that it was recorded back in 2004, with this song and basically all of the album acting as a set-up for the useless, nonsensical and still remarkably offensive punchline that Christopher Reeve ruined the song for Em by dying so he had to take it off. That idea becomes even more egregious when Em talks more solemnly about his death and how it will affect his daughters just a few tracks later, and it may exemplify what I like most about this mixed bag of an album: it commits to the bit, not fully, but chaotically and almost improvisationally, just coming up with ways to one-up the recurring theme of Slim Shady being this shell of a man who echoes Fox News talking points.
As for the song itself, well, it’s incredibly offensive but the weird beat is hilarious and actually very catchy, and Em’s drug-addled, slurring delivery from the early 2000s is my favourite kind of vocal performance from him, making a lot of his multisyllabic rhymes end up a lot smoother to the ear as well as covering up some of the less discretely strange lines. I love how Eminem hasn’t just replaced outdated references with a new vocal take that somehow sounds even worse than 2004, but he’s re-recorded both entire lines and small fragments of bars for seemingly no reason, just to show that the “sane” Em is still in there somewhere. The back and forth between a multi-tracked cartoon voice and a frail sing-songy delivery that almost sounds like AI on the chorus is an inspired idea that places it firmly in the dance fad song canon, and in the second verse, he somehow rhymes several syllables of a line with a bunch of garbled onomatopoeia (more on that in a second). I love the “grand mal seizure” / “grandma, tease her” scheme, and the conceit of those lines is even funnier - next time you see grandma, surprise her and make her feel at home by doing the Christopher Reeves and showing up in a wheelchair. The bridge, where a new melodic vocal from Em is slotted, has been in my head for weeks, and is just the cherry on top of an unnecessarily hateful cake. He comes back, 20 years later, to record a new bridge for an already terribly offensive song, and in that bridge, he basically dedicates the song to Reeve as if this is granting his family any solace, whilst also dissing the guy for literally being deceased, like he’s somehow in control of that. “This is my Chris anthem, I’m giving Chris Reeves his chrysanthemums”. What did he ever do to you, Em?!
The new outro the song closes off with is mostly just him waking up from the Slim Shady nightmare as well as him bringing back the electrolarynx voice from Encore which I just have to be appreciate, even if he’s going to use it to sound vaguely like Stephen Hawking and speak from the perspective of Reeve which is just ridiculous levels of hating. I almost wish he took it back to when he used it not to diss Michael Jackson but complain about what surgery supposedly did to him - he doesn’t hate Michael, but he hates plastic surgeons and hopes they all fucking die. In this song, he’s only annoyed that Christopher Reeve(s) died because it hurts his own product he’s set to release, and ultimately put this out as a sarcastic “tribute” which is just sick, man. Thankfully, it doesn’t seem like his family has been quoted to have been offended or anything of the sort but there’s a certain audacity to this song that simultaneously makes me shake my head in denial and also force myself to recognise that this is a throwback to my absolute favourite era of Eminem, with absolutely all the tropes I love about it. It’s one of my favourite top 40 hits of the entire year and God, I wish it wasn’t.
#30 - “Chk Chk Boom” - Stray Kids
Produced by BANG CHAN, DallasK, Chae Kang Hae and RESTART
So Stray Kids are a K-pop boy band that I reviewed once before and somehow enjoyed despite all the chaos and confusion that their previous hit, “LALALALA”, led me down, but now we have a similarly monosyllabic and this time, onomatopoeic song that grants them their first ever top 40 entry, primarily because a lot of what’s above it somewhat crumbled. I have no idea what to expect from K-pop when it comes from less commercialised and Americanised acts (the BTS guys and BLACKPINK girls come to mind), as what they often end up releasing is an amalgamation of western trends in a bilingual mess that places cringeworthy lyrics in the mouths of a wide variety of singers all bundled in the same group, and this is the case even within BTS, though they’ve been smoother with it as long as they’ve been charting in the UK. As for whether my assumptions were correct, this is utter madness encapsulated into two and a half minutes because not even K-pop, which already likes to switch the production up several times within one song, is going to allow for a song to reach three minutes nowadays. We start with this chiptune-like synth that is already flubbery and gross before the boys invade with their explosion sound effects and a rap that honestly is not terrible flow-wise, and they sound much more comfortable in their own language. The industrial drums are honestly kind of sick, especially with that vocal fragment hidden in the percussion, and I wish the pre-chorus didn’t completely override that with a reggaeton rhythm and overproduced swell because it takes some of the impact away, especially when the chorus is so stilted and staccato. One of the track’s producers is actually the oldest band member, BANG CHAN, and he sounds the most confident on the mic, especially in English, I kind of want to hear the foundation of this beat with him delivering some verses. Otherwise, I’m somewhat disappointed this doesn’t go for something utterly insane like a drum and bass bridge, metalcore breakdown or phonk cowbells being introduced in the final chprus for no reason, but it still has the endearing madness of a lot of non-BTS K-pop, which I can always appreciate as a character trait despite it rarely ever being all too listenable.
#7 - “Angel of My Dreams” - JADE
Produced by Mike Sabath
Finally, we have the full round of all four Little Mix solo debuts, and it’s genuinely been pretty interesting, and a lot of the time, assuring, to see how the former quartet has sought to define themselves as singers. Sadly, not much has lasted from these acts in general, which is a shame since I’ve loved material from Leigh-Anne and Perrie, but here, we have Jade Thirlwall’s solo effort, and it makes complete sense that she would end up collaborating with one of RAYE’s producers, Mike Sabath, as this honestly has a similar dynamic, theatrical approach written all over it. That’s not to say that it’s a rip-off or that the sonic palate is all that similar, but the flipping of a sample on its head, the disparate beat switches, the commentary on the popular music industry and the heavy focus on impressive vocal layering, all contributes to a song that RAYE could have been involved in, and to be completely honest, Thirlwall fails to develop much of a unique personality, at least in this one song, instead acting as what sounds like a fusion of a multitude of pop stars, which actually makes perfect sense for the content. The sample in the beginning of the track is a lovelorn snippet from “Puppet on a String”, which Sandie Shaw not only took to #1 but made the first of five wins for the UK at Eurovision all the way back in 1967 in Vienna. The usage of this sample, according to JADE herself, is to play on the trope of the pop singer as a puppet and to demonstrate how that can be simultaneously true and untrue, with the rest of the track and its driving electro synths pouncing on the tension that exists between an act, fame and the fans in particular, to who JADE has a love-hate relationship with, and this is where the Madonna-like vocal inflections start to make sense thematically too considering her surprisingly meta output over the years. I do wish the song did a bit more with the sample to play into the theme more, or actually made that cyclical structure feel like it mattered: the overwhelming bass thrust of the mid-section is clearly supposed to play a contrast against the slower freedom of the R&B-inspired intro and outro, but lyrically, the song remains in the same tone and narrative place for its entire runtime, so it doesn’t feel nearly as cathartic to have that book-end as much as it should.
Regardless, I still think the song is maybe not the most impressive of the Little Mix solo debuts, or at least the one not closest to my taste, but definitely the clearest and most cinematic statement of them, whilst Perrie and Leigh-Anne played it slightly safe, and Jesy… well, we don’t need to talk about that. In regards to how this will stick around, or if Thirlwall will see more solo success, I actually think both the dynamics of this sonically and the more thought-through, daring presentation of how the song is written, grant her a lot more potential than the others, who mostly just stuck to what their strengths always were. She may have taken the longest but she may be the one from Little Mix to make it the furthest or the longest if she keeps up the quality and intrigue this consistently, even if I’m not as over the Moon about this as I want to be. I can tell she has the ability to make something I really love, and the fact that she didn’t come out with it nearly immediately like the other two actually gives me some hope that she’ll have more longevity.
#4 - “Who” - Jimin
Produced by Jon Bellion, Pete Nappi, Tenroc, Pdogg and GHSTLOOP
Man, I wish I could enjoy BTS output more, but a few solo releases ago, outside of those kept more to hip hop and R&B like RM and j-hope, what ends up charting from these guys ends up being the most sugary and watered-down simulation of western pop possible. The fact that we see a lot of the typical gang involved here - Pdogg and GHSTLOOP - as well as pop songwriters such as Nappi and the admittedly very talented Jon Bellion, who I tend to like on a songwriting level a lot more than most due to his unique voice and distinct synthpop pastiche you can always hear even in songs he doesn’t perform himself, does not necessarily give me high hopes that this will do any better of a job than “Like Crazy” at showing me who Jimin really is. In fact, the largely derided “Smeraldo Garden Marching Band” probably did a pretty good job at endearing me to Jimin based on lovestruck corniness alone. At least I like the cover art, so that could be a good sign… and well, firstly, the cover art does not fit the song at all but, secondly, I thought Jung Kook was going to be the 2000s R&B and dance-pop throwback guy from BTS, is there really such a need for trend-hopping that we’re going to fuse two distinct acts both on the same roster for the sake of a guaranteed hit? The mix on the guitars feels oddly muddy for this kind of throwback too, probably because of the cloudier 2010s tropical house elements they shower the mix with for no real reason other than shoving whatever can make a “pop hit” in there. Despite that cynical production, the same one that made me really not like “Like Crazy”, I’m actually really fond of this. In fact, I think it’s great.
You can hear Bellion’s voice both in that anthemic and mind-numbingly catchy chorus and the twinkly synth that plays a role best compared to a drum fill, it’s a cute little detail that worse songwriters would not have felt the need to include. I don’t like the mix at all, but it still hits with a solid groove, especially with how percussive other elements are - like that staccato Latin guitar acting as both a background aspect and a distorted one-off in each measure, or, similar to the Stray Kids track, using vocal clips as part of the drums, adding a uniquely hopping texture to it all. Most importantly, the hooks Jimin is delivery are perfect for this kind of youthful R&B-pop, and even if the lyrics are generic, that’ll probably just ingrain them further in my head. It plays to a lot of familiar tropes and in a very obvious way, but through what seems like Jon Bellion just understanding how bland it would have been without his finishing touches, or just the core greatness of that chorus combined with Jimin’s endlessly passionate delivery, it ends up feeling like it’s been there forever. To my surprise, I really do love this in spite of, well, myself, and I can honestly see it sticking around: they may have again hit that sweet spot between their unique character as a K-pop group and the algorithmic coating of Spotify pop that they hit around 2019-2020 as a group. I know that the fans are hiking the streaming and sales up so it won’t last too long or too high, but I can hope that this eventually simmers a return as a sleeper hit because it is pretty excellent.
Conclusion
Well, there’s not much to discuss here, but what is here is frankly on a really solid, way above average level pretty consistently. It was tough between my two ultimate favourites, but Best of the Week goes to Billie Eilish for “WILDFLOWER” as Eminem regretfully takes the Honourable Mention for “Brand New Dance”. Jimin wasn’t particularly close but that doesn’t make his song any worse. As for what takes the bottom spot, I suppose Stray Kids have the Worst of the Week for “Chk Chk Boom” but the song’s fine. As for what’s on the horizon, Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding are back with a new song together, Halsey’s hopped on the sample train and unfortunately, there’s a new Ice Spice album. For now, though, thank you for reading, rest in peace to… sigh, Christopher Reeve, and I’ll see you next week.

The Magnus Archives Liveblog- MAG 9 A Father's Love
It's been a little bit since I livebloged the last episode, but (by golly!) I'm gonna keep going (at least until the end of season 1).
02:13- Stop whispering at me Johnathan!
02:47- Oh, you know what would be a fun premise for a show (maybe a miniseries) a true crime podcast investigates the murders of a number of people in their town. As they reveal more and more the podcaster realizes the murderer is closer to home then they like. I feel like that could be a real fun thriller.
04:56- 40 PEOPLE! GIRL WAS HE EVER HOME!!! 40 people in 5 years is 8 people a year. That is a lot of people for something like murder.
09:08- Time to call a plumber, I guess.
10:07- Oh, he was a cop! That explains how he was able to kill so many people (I'm not even talking about in the political way, I'm literally talking about the fact that his knowledge of how crimes are investigated would very much serve him on his quest for death. Not to mention he has access to things that your average murder just wouldn't.)
14:11- You know if Julia ever decides to take vengeance upon her father, she'd be a perfect candidate for the Batfamily. Who among the BatFam hasn't had a murdering father (essentially everyone but Steph and Cass (and for a period of time Jason maybe).
21:17- Uh oh, Poppa's trying to summon ~the horrors~
22:28- I just know this woman doesn't get the access to therapy she needs. I mean, as a therapist, where do you even begin with a story like this.
25:07- Oh....no.
27:40- Once again I must ask, how can Julia ever cope after this image is grafted into her brain!
28:06- Alright the silver had closed around an eye is clearly important. I will save that little image in my mind so I can pull it out when future episodes come around.
29:55- Man this guy should have gotten into butchery or Tarot lore or something other than straight up murder for occult purposes.
30:44- Oh snap! Teeth dude! Alright, it's starting to braid together.
31:15- Sound personal.
Okay, so,as I've mentioned in my other liveblogs, I'm really waiting her so I can see how all of the stories blend together and also because as a person who makes fiction podcasts I feel like i should at least listen to one of the most popular shows in the medium.
I like how it's blending together already. So we have the connection with this episode and the episode with the teeth. We also had that mention of the strange woman in a few episodes. I'm excited to see where this goes.
I will say, while I'm listening to the episodes I feel not necessarily disengaged but it feels sort of quotidian. However, after the episode ends and I really think about the implications of the episode I become more intrigued. I think that might be the single narrator kicking in. Those aren't my favorite type of shows as they are hard for me to stay engaged in, especially since Jon speaks so monotonously through the episode, but the stories he's telling are interesting and thinking about it afterwards gives more more of that imaginative thrill.

"I'm a very private person, much like my ex-boyfriend. But this past week, for the first time, I have felt compelled to share a few things. Leo and I dated for four years. I met him casually through friends when I was 19 years old and we started dating when we were both 21.
It was a different time back then. We could go places and not be followed by the paparazzi. It was 1995 and he was making a movie called Marvin's Room. I remember vividly while visiting him on the set, watching the O.J. Simpson verdict while in Meryl Streep's trailer. It was a surreal moment for a Michigan country bumpkin like myself.
We were kids. My friends knew his friends and Hollywood back then was like a big high school. It was, dare I say, an innocent time. We were nerds. Good looking nerds with glamorous jobs, but still nerds. We went to amusement parks, concerts, museums and the movies. I was with him when he made Romeo & Juliet, Titanic, and The Beach.
I visited Leo for long periods of time on various sets in different countries. I loved his friends and he loved mine. We were like one big happy family. Leo was a very sweet and thoughtful boyfriend. We also had some hard times like all couples do, and broke up for a bit in 1997 and then got back together. Then, about 4 months after my 25th birthday (ha, I know what you're thinking) it was over for good.
It was a choice I made. I don't how to explain it exactly, I just felt like I was ready for our relationship to be done. It was like I had outgrown that version of myself, the Hollywood high school girl. I wanted to figure out who I was and what I wanted.
Now over 20 years later when I read the headlines and online comments with his most recent ex girlfriend being referred to as having "aged out" or being "too old for Leo at 25," puh-lease (insert dramatic eye roll). I think we can and should do better. What kind of message is this sending to young people?
Back when I was a young model, we were told that our careers would be over at 21. I'm happy to see things are slowly changing for people in that industry now but in the '90s that wasn't the case. Looking back, at 21 or 25 I had no clue who I was or what I wanted. I ended up modeling, and did some acting and a few commercials. But it wasn't until about 30 that I found my true passion, dog nutrition of all things, and I started my own company when I was 33.
I met the love of my life when I was 38 and got married when I was 40. So you youngins out there, listen up. Life gets so much better after 25. Yes, you get more wrinkles but you also get more confidence and more love for yourself.
As far as Leo and his latest breakup, who knows what happened. Maybe she really cared for him but was just ready for the next chapter, perhaps it's temporary, or maybe it's none of our business but can we stop with the ageist headlines and comments? But let's keep the funny memes coming, they're stellar. Truly.
As for me, I'm 48 years old now, (ancient indeed). I live in the countryside of Oregon with my hot husband, Shea, who's a builder and also happens to be younger than me (joke's on you, Leo ), my really cute rescue mutt, Harley Dee, and I own a locally-sourced dog food company www.emmalouskitchen.com. Turns out, I was barely scratching the surface of life at 25."

Great Divides
My brother and I were born near the end of the Baby Boom. It’s a generation of 78 million people born between 1946 and 1964, a period of unprecedented growth, prosperity, and optimism. While there was that nagging Cold War issue in the 1950s and early-1960s (you know…the Commie threat…and all the saber rattling that went with it), things were upbeat. They truly were the Happy Days.
But things started to go south, and our innocence was lost, once Kennedy was assassinated and we found ourselves at war in Viet Nam. Suddenly, that generation of kids born into bliss started questioning everything that persons in authority said. It was reflected in war protests, our music, our lifestyles. Woodstock—sex, drugs, and rock and roll—was a defining moment.
As a teen maturing in then 70s, I, like most others in my cohort, concluded that our parents’ music sucked, their prudishness was quaint but outdated, and even their religious values were up for debate. It set in stage, for me at least, a love for generational divides. Since then I have been a student of those divides, knowing that there is no one set “way” of doing things for everyone, that each generation must define itself.
Music. Religion. Politics. You know. All the big things, and a bunch of other little ones, along with how we buy and consume.
That’s why when I stumbled into a study detailing GenZ and Millennial shoppers in the supermarket, I knew I had to dive in. I kind of live for this stuff. This ain’t your grandparents’ supermarket anymore. Oh, and one more thing: It is never cool to force your generation’s way of doing things onto subsequent generations. There’s no right or wrong, even if it clashes with your sensibilities. As I tell my brother, we’re geezers now and increasingly less relevant or of interest to marketers, because our primary spending days are behind us.
But you younguns? Marketers love you, and want to get to know you.
Tumblr media
The study identified five different grocery shopping personas, or “attitudes” (much more on this topic later in the term) known as Care About the Classics, Price Hunter, Health Concerned, Buyer of the Best, and Trend Seeker. As with all things demographic, we should never assume sameness between the generations, or even among genders, race, and income.
The Trend Seekers were decidedly Millennial by age (25-40), skew toward higher income, and are ethnically diverse. Sounds like a pretty cool group, if you ask me. It also sounds a lot like Oldest Daughter and her husband, Dallas professionals who just bought a huge house but don’t yet have kids. Selection is critical, and explains why they are not as store loyal as marketers might like. They hit the HEB for some things, Walmart for others, Trader Joe’s for a lot, and the Farmers’ Market for the really cool stuff. HEB, though, even if 15 minutes away, is their favorite.
The Price Hunter persona is predominantly female and white. This group is more likely to live alone or with their parents, earn less than $50,000, and shop for private label products. Think store brands. German-owned chain Aldi is a clear favorite, and living within a tight budget is a defining trait.
Health Concerned is interesting in that it breaks with a lot of assumptions we make about younger generations. It is skewed toward Millennials and even GenX, while GenZ apparently is not at all interested in this aspect yet. Perhaps it has to do with their youth, when the tolls of hard living have not yet accrued. This is also an ethnically diverse group, one that seeks out the best products. By virtue of this, income must also be a factor.
Naturally, there is overlap, and it is not just possible, but also likely, that a single person or household might find themselves fitting into two or more personas.
The bottom line is this: marketers must always strive to understand the generational cohorts, and the subdivisions within. It helps drive store location decisions. I see this in the Frisco neighborhood where Oldest Daughter and her hubs live, one populated with homes running the gamut, but many in the $400k to $600k range. Walmart is the only grocery in the immediate neighborhood, but most of the families living there are 40-somethings on a career trajectory yet are struggling to live within their paychecks. My progeny, though, are only in their 20s, and 15-20 years younger than most of their neighbors. They would much rather have a shiny new HEB or Trader Joe’s nearby.
My dear students, you are the darlings of marketers right now. My generation had its moment in the spotlight. Now it’s your turn. Don’t be surprised when marketers want to know as much as they can about you, not because they’re nosey, but rather because it’s a dog eat dog world out there, and your corporate survival depends on it. My generation? We’re worried more about getting enough fiber these days.
Enjoy your moment, because this too shall pass.

Draft from 15th of June: How many chapters does MHA have left?
an old post I found in my drafts. did not finish it exactly but I figured it might be a fun read for someone. I tried to calculate it via anime seasons (laid down nicely) and manga volumes (did not lay down nicely at all but I forgot abt the last volume bonus content which is bound to be more than usually)
this was after ch 425 so I still had just a tiny bit of copium left in me
everything after the cut is text from the draft:
tldr: around ten maybe, maybe forty
one of our main measuring points there will be the anime coming out
Tumblr media
as this wikipedia screenshot shows, season 7 is going to have 21 episode. we are one third through!
episode one starts with chapter 329 and ends with last pages of chapter 331. three chapters.
i decided not to check every single ep because that's long and annoying and instead grab all seven. if the amount of chapters serialised is consistent episode seven should end with chapter 349. which is exactly what happens!
so by extending this logic we can assume that episode 21 will contain chapters 389, 390 and 391 thus ending dabi's plotline in final war arc and bringing up the sad man parade. the main trick here is that chapter 391 is 9 pages long so exact details may vary but honestly i am willing to bet the season will end around there
but what then?
right now studio bones makes their anime seasons have either 25 eps (mha s7 is not an outlier if you count specials btw) or somewhere between 12-13. how many exactly? well
in last ten years there was one anime with 10 eps, 2 with 11, 9 with 13 and 18 with 12, however among those 18 two had specials released either during the airing period or just before it akin to s7 specials so it might be more correct to say that there are 10 animes with 13 episodes, 16 with 12 episodes and one with 14. debatable honestly
we will keep all three possibilities in mind
so, how many chapters is that? chapters 392-423 fit perfectly to give us 11 episodes
which means 1 more chapter for 12 episode (probably not)
4 more chapters for 13 episodes (most likely option out of three)
40 chapters for 25 episodes
"okay well what about manga volumes?"
GREAT QUESTION
we usually get 12 chapters per volume. the last released volume is vol. 40 which goes up to chapter 410 and includes it.
by the same logic volume 41 will contain chapters 411-422. but maybe actually 411-423 because come on that's just. one last chapter of final arc. it does not fit well here.
42 - 424-436
43 - 436-448
44 - 449-456
45 - 457-465??
math does not math well here to be honest. it DOES lower chances of getting like five chapters and be done significantly, but beyond that? debatable
what about the plot however? we still have several threads hanging:
lov state, surviving members, their fates
tomura dying and kurogiri's sacrifice. to be honest chapter 420 does not make me believe hori gives a single fuck about kuro and his plotline but what if??
mystery person
izuku's dad (horikoshi did say he wants to do something with him but as for ch 425 we still have nothing)
actually becoming the greatest hero. it did not happen yet. allmight can say whatever he wants really but izuku has not even graduated, i kinda doubt hori will just leave him in 2-a
ochako and shouto's plotlines in general. they don't feel finished yet and we know that at least with shouto there is definitely something coming up next chapter
a lot to cover. i would normally say four chapters definitely won't cut it but then again we DID have four pages to resolve the rooftop gang plotline. it's not the likely option but it's still an option for me now
horikoshi himself predicted he would end the manga in 2024 but he did the same thing about 2023 plus he could not have predicted the amount of breaks he is taking. still it does speak more in favor of having maybe 10 maybe 20 chapters rather than 40.

Cardio-vascular endurance and training :
'Now what do I mean by cardio- vascular endurance?'
"Cardio-vascular endurance is the ability of the heart, lungs and blood vessels to deliver oxygen to your body tissues."
• The more efficiently your body delivers oxygen to its tissues, the lower your breathing rate is. While this may help you get a little more bottom time in your workout, athletic competitions like marathon or in the cricket field.
Here's how my cardio -vascular endurance training routine looks like:
• Stretching -
Well, you can't proceed to any workout or training nor end it without stretching right? But are you aware about its types? Dont worry let me list it down for you :
|Dynamic stretching|- Perform this during pre workout or training. Dynamic stretching basically means to induce movement in your muscles and tissues in order to get them ready and warmed up before your training.
|Static stretching| - Perform this post workout or training.Static stretching basically means to stretch your muscles and release the tension or stiffness caused during workout or training.
Tumblr media
• Shuttle run -
After i am done with my stretching and warming up, I move onto the shuttle run. I place two markers at a distance of 40 metres. The work is to start from the marker and run at a moderate speed up to the other marker ,which was placed at a distance of 40 metres, for 8 minutes in the first set followed by 7 minutes, 6 minutes and so on up to the last set which is of 1 minute. Some key pointers:
° Take a minute break after each set
° Your running speed should be moderate
° Batsman: Focus on your turning and imagine it as if you are running between the wickets.
° Focus on your breathing for maximum output!
Tumblr media
• Core training :
After rehydration and rest of 10- 15 minutes i move on to my core training. My core training is a cycle consisting of various exercises like planks, med ball exercises, burpees and many more . 3 sets of each exercise is performed with a rest period of 30 to 45 seconds.
Tumblr media
• Cool down :
Lastly , I end my whole training with a relaxing cool down session in order to release excess oxygen as well as any sort of stiffness from my body. Cool down session usually lasts for about 20-25 minutes.
Refresh and relax your mind and body!

Why Your Inventory Sucked Part 5
I would jokingly threaten to quit over the years. I didn't laugh when I did it, but I also knew I wasn't going to do it. I suppose the fact that I stopped making those joking threats should have been a sign that I was at the end of my stay.
But there was one time I was very, VERY serious. We entered a Family Dollar. It was to be a small store, didn't need a lot of crew, shouldn't take long. Turns out the reported size was wrong, it was at least 3 times larger that it was supposed to be. I threatened to quit if I didn't get some help and get done by 5 pm. I was obviously serious as my boss' boss called me to try to talk me down. We did finish before 5 btw.
The thing is, it wasn't the store I was in that pushed me to that point. It was a dumb thing, and felt like we had been lied too, but any other day I might have dealt with it. But I had just come out of the worst month of inventories we had ever had, and I was stressed, angry and tired, and this was almost the straw the broke the camels back. The rest of the weight, though was all the fault of. . .
PART 5: HOBBY LOBBY
I hate Hobby Lobby, for all normal reasons, but also for specific inventory reasons. But for you to understand WHY those reasons are so toxic is to do some setup.
Most stores do their inventories once a year, though a few will do theirs more frequently. For the big stores, yeah, once a year is enough, and companies like Lowes, Walmart and even Dollar General will spread them out across the entire year because there aren't enough people to count them all at once. The stores that tend to want to cluster their inventories together are small hole in the wall mall clothing stores, like The Gap. And those stores prefer to do them in January, so they can see how they did over Christmas.
This works out as December is our lull period as few want to do inventory around Christmas. While our regular workers have to apply for unemployment to keep money coming in, it gives us time to hire new people. The small stores in January gives us a chance to train the new hires in the field. We'll lose a lot of them by February, but we usually have enough counters to reinforce as the dollar stores start up and then we can start another round of hiring.
Our basic training in December teaches the new hires about how to quantity count, and most of those January stores are AQ-1 stores, so by the end of February they usually have a good idea of most of the kinds of inventories they will do will be like. So they are ready for the rest of the year, or however long they actually last.
Then here comes Hobby Lobby. They wanted all their stores, across the entire country, done in 6 weeks. And this was the compromise, as originally they wanted it done in 4. They also want it done January and February.
Hobby Lobbies are BIG, even the smallest one is a quite large. To do one Hobby Lobby takes between 25 to 60 people to do in a reasonable amount of time. Our office during a normal year has about 35 to 40 people, tops. It's not what we were supposed to have, but it's what we typically did have.
So not only do we have to throw our new hires at the store, but also our vets AND tap into other offices to get enough bodies to take care of ONE store. There are about 6 of them in our territory. And we have to help other offices as well, so we tend to do a much more than 6 stores.
I mentioned that there are generally 2 kinds of inventory, Quantity (scan and count) and AQ-1 (scan everything) but that's not strictly true, there are other kinds of inventories. There's things like pharmacy inventories that are weird combo of Quantity and AQ-1, and the less I have to talk about halfs, wholes and tenths, the better, and then there's one of my favorites, the pallet count. That's where we take a clicker like you would use for exercise reps and count all the blue pallets in a warehouse. It's how I ended up in so many distribution centers.
Then there is Financial. It's an old style count, from before I ever got involved in the business, and is designed for a world before barcodes. The ideas is that individual items don't really matter, it's only how MUCH those items are worth that matters. The store is broken up in such a way that every area is a "department," like one for candy, one for beer, one for automotive. Then you go up, enter the department (or tag number, it depends) and find the price of the items on the shelf.
So let's say there is a row of those Little Tree car air fresheners. They all cost 1.99. Enter the price and count ALL the air fresheners. Don't worry that there is half a dozen or more different scents, they all cost the same. In fact, anything in that section that costs 1.99 can be counted together. I didn't strictly do that, but that was more to keep track of where I was in the tag than for any other reason.
With practice, it's shockingly fast. There was a truck stop I used to do via this method and two of us could clear the entire store in the same amount of time it took a 5 man crew counting it like a normal Quantity account, which they converted to while I was working for the company. The issue, of course, is auditing, which really can't be done because, well, which 1.99 product did I count? No way to know. There is a way, basically comparing the previous values versus the current values, but that's more detail than strictly necessary.
Well you've probably heard that Hobby Lobby doesn't use UPC codes, I think the owner thinks it's the mark of the devil or something. It has to be a Financial count, something our new hires aren't trained for, at all. And worse, they'll likely never use it again because NO ONE uses Financial any more.
So to summarize, we have a bunch of new hires that instead of training in the field on relatively easy and small clothing stores, we have to teach them, in the store, how to do a count they will NEVER do again in a painfully large and busy store.
It gets worse.
The main issue with Hobby Lobby is that they are part of that picky category of store staff. Not just the manager, all of them from top to bottom. They want it "right," which is our goal too, but their way of expressing it is, unpleasant.
First they WATCH the counters, like hawks, and if you aren't counting the way they want, they'll complain. What does that mean? Okay, so I told you how Financial counts are supposed to work, but Hobby Lobby doesn't want it done that way, they want EVERY facing counted separately, even if it is the same price. More than that, they want us to TOUCH every item. Somehow, if we don't touch something, we didn't count it right. I can see there's one item on the peg, it's obviously one item, but if I didn't touch it, I didn't count it, that's their theory.
They complain about our not counting right, at first. But if it happens enough times, they'll demand the counter be kicked out of the store. Now that's a common issue I have covered, but in Hobby Lobby, I cannot be convinced that they didn't WANT to kick someone out. It's about showing how serious they are about accuracy of their inventory, so kicking someone out is a power thing. Which would do something if the staff isn't so large that no one even notices if one person gets kicked out.
Of course, they also want to do audits, on a Financial count. Normally audits pull from the same master file as our scanners, and will even insert things like a description of the product, which makes it easier to track and audit a section. In fact, you can follow exactly the flow the counter used to count the section. Financial counts do NOT have this, they only have the department, price and quantity.
It's why they want every facing done, but it's still really hard to follow. If they can't follow it, they demand the whole section be recounted. This removes another person from the main count, often a supervisor (like me) to do the recount. So now you have one less person watching the hoard of new counters and keeping them counting properly, which the store staff will point out and throw out at the drop of a hat.
Some of the audits will result in demands for recount because the counters did it wrong, specifically because they didn't capture every different price in a section that THEY didn't bother sorting out (this is mostly in the paint sections). So they failed their prep, and then demanded we fix it. Thanks.
They generally do better on prep than most stores, specifically they pre-count a significant portions of their stores. Though we have to mark them properly with a red marker (which our company has to provide, not the other way around). Tag number on first page, slash each page as you finish them (not at the end or before, no no), and tag number on the last page. Screw it up, whole section is to be recounted, and you may be kicked out. Oh, and sometimes they forget to put the price or quantity for the item on the sheet and despite having a small army of staff, it might take a bit for someone to respond to a sku check.
All that over the course of about 10+ hours, while the store is open. Oh yeah, and during COVID they didn't wear masks either, because of course they didn't. That was the following year, though, so it didn't apply here.
Now the fact that several of the stores are out of town, often several hours out of town, adds to the mess. Have to meet several hours before the count, count for 10+ hours, then several hour drive home. Oh, and since we still had all those little clothing stores, several people would have to work double, or even triple shifts. Me, I got to DRIVE the crew to those jobs and while I could go take a nap mid way through the count, generally I couldn't be spared for the main count as we never had enough people.
All this compressed into a few weeks. Oh and then some of the store staff had the gall to complain that one of their inventories was on Super Bowl Sunday. You rat bastards, fuck off.
By the time it was over, our core counters were exhausted and angry, and the new counters, well, they were gone. ALL gone. We didn't retain ANY of them. Hobby Lobby broke those new counters and they decided not to come back. We ALL knew that, and it was going to make the rest of the year that much worse.
The following year, instead of dropping Hobby Lobby like the radioactive lump of shit it was, they dropped all the smaller clothing stores instead. The result was a bit lighter, but none of the vets forgot the previous year, and no one wanted to be in Hobby Lobby, at all. Bad moral makes the inventory slower, and there was no way to make it any better as long as Hobby Lobby existed.
So after that nightmare, I made a serious threat to quit. I didn't, ultimately, because I did like my job, I was good at it. It gave me confidence I hadn't gotten anywhere else. I was proud of the work and skills I learned. And Hobby Lobby came stupidly close to ruining it all.
Two years ago I did quit, but it wasn't because of Hobby Lobby. Maybe some other day I'll talk about why, but for now I'm spent on my ranting. Thanks for reading, if you managed to get through it all.

Ryzen 8000 vs. Lunar Lake-M: Laptop CPU Showdown
Tumblr media
The Strix Point, Hawk Point, Arrow Lake, and Lunar Lake next-generation AMD and Intel laptop CPU families have been described in depth.
With next-generation CPUs like Strix Point, Arrow Lake, and Hawk Point, Intel and AMD will be engaged in a heated competition in the laptop market from 2024 to 2025.
The most recent data comes from Bilibili’s Golden Pig Upgrade, which largely contains information that has been known for some time with a few fresh additions. The laptop lineups mentioned here span the 2023–2025 period and feature next-generation models from both AMD and Ryzen. Beginning with the AMD family, AMD will release two new product families in addition to its Phoenix Ryzen 7040 APUs: the Hawk Point “Ryzen 8040” and Strix Point “Ryzen 8050” series.
AMD Hawk Point APUs: Phoenix Refresh With Zen 4 Cores & RDNA 3 iGPU, Q1 2024 Launch
The data indicates that the Hawk Point family will debut in the first few months of 2019 and replace the current Phoenix “Ryzen 7040” APUs. These APUs can have up to 8 cores and 16 threads and will once again use the Zen 4 architecture. The chips will support DDR5/LPDDR5x memory and be compatible with the FP7/r2 and FP8 platforms. The leaker claims that Hawk Point APUs would use the RDNA 3 architecture, in contrast to prior speculations that claimed Hawk Point would use the RDNA 3.5 graphics architecture.
Zen 4 (4nm) Monolithic Design
Up To 8 Cores
12 RDNA 3+ Compute Units
XDNA Engine Integrated
Q1 Launch (Expected)
AMD Strix Point APUs: Ryzen 8050 Zen 5 & Zen 5C Hybrid Cores, RDNA 3.5 iGPUs, 2H 2024 Launch
Strix Point and Strix Point Halo, both of which will be included in the Ryzen 8050 APU family, will actually replace the AMD Ryzen 7040 “Phoenix” APUs. Since the Strix Point chips will provide a monolithic design with a combination of Zen 5C and Zen 5D cores, and the more expensive Strix Halo chips will have a chiplet design with the Zen 5C cores alone, these laptop chips will be divided into two halves.
AMD Ryzen 8050 Strix Point Mono Expected Features:
Zen 5 (4nm) Monolithic Design
Up To 12 Cores In Hybrid Config (Zen 5 + Zen 5C)
32 MB of Shared L3 cache
35% Faster CPU Versus Phoenix at 50W
16 RDNA 3+ Compute Units
On Par With RTX 3050 Max-Q
128-bit LPDDR5X Memory Controller
XDNA Engine Integrated
20 TOPS AI Engine
Q2-Q3 Launch (Expected)
AMD Ryzen 8050 Strix Point Halo Expected Features:
Zen 5 Chiplet Design
Up To 16 Cores
64 MB of Shared L3 cache
25% Faster CPU Versus 16-Core Dragon Range at 90W
40 RDNA 3+ Compute Units
On Par With RTX 4070 Max-Q (90W)
256-bit LPDDR5X Memory Controler
XDNA Engine Integrated
40 TOPS AI Engine
2H 2024 Launch (Expected)
RDNA 3.5 iGPUs will be included in the AMD Strix Point and Strix Halo APUs, which will also support the FP8 and FP11 platforms, respectively. While the mainstream processors only support LPDDR5x, the higher-end chips will support both DDR5 and LPDDR5x DRAM. We may anticipate the Strix Point APUs to hit the shelves by the middle of 2024, which should practically fall in 2H 2024, as the announcement is anticipated at CES 2024. In 2023, AMD took about the same amount of time to launch Phoenix in the retail market.
Moving over to the Intel side, we start with Intel’s first-generation Core Ultra range, codenamed Meteor Lake, which is technically slated to ship on December 14 but which, according to sources, won’t be widely accessible until early 2024. While some Meteor Lake-H chips will begin selling at the end of 2023, customers will have to wait until early 2024 to get their hands on the more expensive and performance-focused designs, according to the roadmap for Intel Meteor Lake and Raptor Lake Refresh CPUs.
The higher-end HX series will also be missing from Meteor Lake, which is why a 14th Gen Raptor Lake Refresh-HX lineup is anticipated for 2024. The entry-level market, which includes Core i3, etc., won’t be served by Meteor Lake CPUs, therefore the Raptor Lake Refresh-U series will aim for pricing that are far less expensive than Meteor Lake alternatives in that market. Even a Raptor Lake Refresh-H series is being planned for release in late 2024.
The primary characteristics of the 1st Gen Core Ultra “Meteor Lake” family include the following:
Triple-Hybrid CPU Architecture (P/E/LP-E Cores)
Brand New Redwood Cove (P-Cores)
Brand New Crestmont (E-Cores)
Up To 14 Cores (6+8) For H/P Series & Up To 12 Cores (4+8) For U Series CPUs
Intel 4 Process Node For CPU, TSMC For tGPU
Intel ‘Xe-MTL’ GPU With Up To 128 EUs
Up To LPDDR5X-7467 & DDR5–5200 Support
Up To 96 GB DDR5 & 64 GB LPDDR5X Capacities
Intel VPU For AI Inferencing With Atom Cores
x8 Gen 5 Lanes For Discrete GPU (Only H-Series)
Triple x4 M.2 Gen 4 SSD Support
Four Thunderbolt 4 Ports
The three Meteor Lake CPU models Meteor Lake-H, Meteor Lake-U15, and Meteor Lake-U9 will be offered separately.
Late 2024 for Arrow Lake-H, 2025 for Arrow Lake-HX for Intel’s Arrow Lake “2nd Gen” Core Ultra
The H-series laptop SKUs will be the first to get Intel’s 2nd Gen Core Ultra family, code-named Arrow Lake, in 2024. Once more, it’s anticipated that the supply of these chips would be restricted at first, before becoming normal around 2025. As the actual successor of Raptor Lake-HX processors, the Arrow Lake family will also contain HX-series CPUs for enthusiast laptops that would pair well with next-generation discrete GPUs. These processors will compete with AMD’s Fire Range-HX components, which will serve as laptops’ desktop substitutes.
In 2025, Intel Lunar Lake-M Will Be Available For Low-Power Mobility Platforms
2nd Gen Core Ultra Family
Targets High-End H/HX Series
Intel 20A Compute Tile
Lion Cove P-Cores
Skymont E-Cores
Alchemist+ Graphics Tile
TSMC 3nm Node For iGPU Tile
Up To 192 EUs
Similar VPU/NPU Capabilities as Meteor Lake
2H 2024 Launch
The Meteor Lake-U series CPUs will be replaced by Intel’s Lunar Lake-M, which is aimed at low-power laptops and other devices. In 2025, this range is anticipated to coexist with the Arrow Lake-H and Arrow Lake-HX chips. What is known about Intel’s Lunar Lake CPUs is as follows:
Targets Low Power Laptops
Architecture Built From The Ground Up
Increased Performance Per Watt
Lion Cove P-Cores
Skymont E-Cores
Battlemage iGPU
Possibly Uses Intel 20A Process Node
4+4 Core Configurations (Current ES Samples)
It appears that there will be a lot of activity in the laptop market between 2023 and 2025, with a number of releases, brand-new product families, designs that offer significant increases in performance and efficiency, and some really next-generation laptop options for consumers across the world.

Overwatch 2 patch notes slide in bonus buff to its newest OP hero
Tumblr media
The latest Overwatch 2 patch notes just got a sneaky update after players realized that its most-buffed hero was even stronger than initially suggested. The mid-season five Overwatch 2 patch changes quite a few heroes, with particular focus on the turret masters of Symmetra and Torbjörn. However, it didn’t take long for people to spot that the Symmetra buff is even more terrifying than it initially seemed, making her a true force to be reckoned with in the multiplayer game. Along with the hero balance updates, the patch also features some changes to On Fire to make it a little more difficult to attain and hold for long periods of time, and introduces the new Overwatch 2 team queue mode that lets you go into a no holds barred, five on five showdown with your best crew. There are some nice improvements to several Overwatch 2 characters, such as additional damage reduction on Orisa’s Fortify, improved spread for Sojourn’s Railgun, and a rather tasty round of buffs to Soldier: 76 across the board. However, there’s no question that the biggest winner of the update is Symmetra. In an attempt to fix Symmetra’s heavy map dependency, the Blizzard balance team has put more of her effectiveness into her Photon Projector. Its secondary fire, the charged-up balls, now deal 50 impact and 50 explosion damage for a total of 100 to targets you hit directly – meaning Symm can now pick off a large amount of the cast in just two well-placed shots. Her Sentry Turrets now deal just 25 damage per second rather than 40, but even that’s a small price to pay, because they keep their slowing effect and will now also reveal enemy heroes to you and your allies while they are dealing damage to them, and for a full second after the character escapes their clutches. That’s a huge boon, and lets you use them to now effectively place a safety net to spot any flanking heroes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxk2iQ_8tD8&ab_channel=FlatsTwo The patch notes also mention “conditional shield health regeneration,” but didn’t actually include that in the notes itself at first. However, they’re there now, confirming that Symm also regenerates up to 30 shield health per second while dealing primary-fire damage to either barriers or enemies that have shield health themselves. That makes her even more scary for the likes of Rein and Zarya, and she’ll almost certainly see plenty of play this patch as a result. Personally, I love playing Symm, so I’m not going to complain too much, but I am a little scared about how dominant she might become – her map-specific style actually felt like an interesting quirk, and now it feels like she might just be unstoppable anywhere. Overwatch 2 patch notes – July 11, 2023 On Fire Adjustments - Fixed a bug that caused players to gain On Fire at the start of a new round in Competitive Play when playing any game mode or in Quick Play when playing Control. - On Fire and Blazing are more difficult to attain early in a round. - On Fire’s cooldown reduced to 3 seconds. This should prevent most of the cases where a hero gained On Fire with a delay after a positive contribution. - On Fire score decays slightly more quickly when a hero is not On Fire. - Maintaining On Fire for long periods of time is more difficult Event Hub - A new centralized location for Event information is now available from the main menu, where all Event Challenges, Rewards, and Modes are listed here. Team Queue Team Queue is an all-new Competitive mode for Overwatch 2, requiring everyone to play in a full group of five players. Team Queue has no ranking restrictions and will be available through the end of Season 5. Other important rules for the mode are: - Players can group up regardless of how far apart they are in rank. - Grandmaster players can play, even with up to four other Grandmaster players. - Team Queue is limited to 1 Tank, 2 Damage, and 2 Support. - Players do not queue for specific roles, instead choosing their roles within each match. - Platform pool restrictions remain, meaning players on console must still only group up with other players on console, not those on PC. Hero Updates Orisa - Fortify: Damage reduction increased from 40 to 50%. Ramattra - Ravenous Vortex: The projectile now passes through enemy heroes but is still blocked by barriers. Reinhardt - Barrier Field: Maximum health increased from 1200 to 1400. Wrecking Ball - Quad Cannons: Manual reload time reduced from 2 to 1.6 seconds. This does not affect the automatic reload while transformed into a ball, which is still 2 seconds. Cassidy - Magnetic Grenade: Fixed a bug where Cassidy’s Magnetic Grenade did not disable the following: Baptiste’s Exo Boost and Flight for both Sigma’s Gravitic Flux and Mercy’s Valkyrie. Sojourn - Railgun: Number of shots to reach maximum spread increased from 8 to 12. - Railgun: Spread reduced by 12%. Soldier: 76 - Heavy Pulse Rifle: Damage increased from 18 to 19. - Helix Rockets: Explosion damage increased from 80 to 90. - Biotic Field: Healing per second increased from 35 to 40. Symmetra - Photon Projector: Secondary Fire maximum impact damage increased from 45 to 50. - Photon Projector: Secondary Fire maximum explosion damage increased from 45 to 50. - Photon Projector: Regenerate up to 30 shield health per second when primary fire deals damage to barriers or enemies with shield health. - Sentry Turret: Damage per second reduced from 40 to 25. - Sentry Turret: Turrets now reveal enemy heroes to allies while dealing damage and for 1 additional second afterwards. Torbjörn - Rivet Gun: Secondary Fire spread reduced from 5 to 4.5 degrees. - Deploy Turret: Damage reduced from 14 to 11. - Deploy Turret: Cooldown increased from 10 to 12 seconds. - Overload: Now reloads 6 ammo on use. Kiriko - Healing Ofuda: Recovery reduced from 1 to 0.9 seconds. Zenyatta - Orb of Discord: Maximum range reduced from 40 to 30 meters. - Orb of Discord: Time to wear off the target when not in line-of-sight reduced from 2 to 1.5 seconds. Additional bug fixes can be found via the Blizzard website. Time will tell exactly where Symm and the others fall on the Overwatch 2 tier list following these changes. For now, you’ll want to catch up with all the details on what the Overwatch 2 PvE schedule and missions are looking like following all the recent rejigging. Read the full article

Let’s Do The Time Warp Again!
Tumblr media
I’ve been re-listening to a lot of older episodes of Astonishing Legends. Today, I was listening to an episode dealing with the phenomenon of missing time. Of course, it got me thinking back because I have had my own experiences with wonky time. (Honestly, if it’s Fortean, I have encountered it at some point. I’m a magnet for this stuff.)
My most perplexing experience with weird time happened in about 2002 or 2003 at a friend’s house which is also a magnet for all things bizarre. The house is very much a liminal space, both in a physical and metaphysical sense. It’s on the line between two cities (or very close to) and it’s either situated at the convergence of lay lines or there’s a limestone or quartz deposit or something under the house that seems to generate energy for the most woo-woo stuff you can imagine. I’ve had a number of weird experiences there, but this is the only time when we seem to have departed this reality for an extended period of time and dropped back in with absolutely no recall of what happened in those missing hours.
It was late spring, I believe. I had gone with my best friend, Beth (tragically, no longer with us) to visit our friend Rachel at her home where literally anything is possible. We got to the house somewhere between noon and 1pm. As usual, we brought food and the three of us sat in the living room for what only seemed to be about an hour, maybe and hour and a half. However, when we looked at the time on the cable box, it was a little after 8pm. The three of us then spent another hour or so trying to figure out what the hell happened to those missing hours because we KNEW that we hadn’t been there that long.
Yes, I know that time flies when you’re having fun and anyone who knows me and my friends knows that it doesn’t take very long for the giggles to start. I used to go to the gym with another friend and it was real easy for us to lose track of time and end up working out for 90 minutes rather than our usual 45. Losing small amounts of time like that is completely normal . We all do it. Losing several hours? Not so much. To this day, I still have no idea what happened.
This, of course, wasn’t my only dance with weird time warps, it’s just the one that scares me the most. Not knowing what may have happened in those missing hours is really uncomfortable. I’m not going to say “It was aliens” because I don’t believe that, but I don’t have any real solid explanation for what did happen. And for those wondering if we were drinking or puffing on African laughing grass, the answer is no. I’m allergic to cannabis and not much of a drinker and my friends are real respectful of that. Nor were there more illicit substances involved. My ONLY vice is caffeine.
My other brushes with weird time went the other way. It was almost like I went through a time rift and managed to get where I was going far sooner than should have been possible. The first time it happened, I was by myself. My mom and I were working at the same coffee shop, but we worked different shifts. I didn’t drive, so the walk between work and home took 20 to 25 minutes. On this particular day, I wasn’t due to work for another 2 hours, so I hadn’t even gotten ready to leave. Mom called the house and asked if I could come in early. I asked how early and she said “Now”. She then explained that one of our co-workers had passed out behind the counter, was unconscious and there was an ambulance on the way. Coming from a performing arts background, getting changed into my work clothes in under 3 minutes wasn’t out of the norm. Getting from our home to work in 5 minutes absolutely was. Mom asked how I got there so fast and I honestly had no idea. I still don’t.
The second time, mom was with me. The background story is way too long, so I’ll sum it up as well as I can. Mom and I had gotten together with friends in Boston. The train ride between Beverly and Boston is around 40 minutes. My father had had a medical emergency that required hospitalization while we were gone. When mom found out, we cut our day short and headed back to the train station. The train ride back only took about 10 or 15 minutes. Again, can’t really explain how that happened.
Getting theoretical, if we accept that time is not linear (which I do), then that could possibly explain these time warps. It could also very well explain deja vu and residual hauntings. And it’s really not all that modern a concept. I have a book by Stephen Blamires called “Magic of the Celtic Otherworld” in which the author discusses some of the beliefs of the pre-Christian Irish Celts. In his book, Blamires explains that the Irish didn’t see time as something linear. They believed the past, present and future were happening at the same time and very often the timelines crossed or sideswiped each other. (Could Celtic knotwork be their “written” record of this belief?) In the words of the Tenth Doctor “It’s really a big ball of wibbly wobbly, timey wimey stuff.”
It is possible that in those latter cases, the crisis factor could also play a role. Much like the adrenaline rush that makes it possible for a 115 pound woman to lift a car off of a toddler, maybe that same fight or flight response had a more metaphysical effect and opened a rift in the fabric of time. Honestly, I don’t know. I have no answers. All I know is what I’ve experienced.
The missing time is always going to bother me. I have huge chunks of memory of my childhood missing. I remember talking to an acquaintance about that and she suggested that it could mean I was sexually abused and I blocked the memories. I quipped that it could also mean I was abducted by aliens. While her theory may actually hold some water with regard to the missing chunks of my childhood, it doesn’t explain the missing time my friends and I experienced together. And, no, I will not be undergoing recovered memory therapy. That’s how the Satanic Panic really got started. I’m not messing with that nonsense.
So, that’s me and my strange relationship to time. Like I said, if it’s Fortean, it will inevitably find me. If you’re looking for Sasquatch (or more properly, relict hominoids), just bring me with you. Brown Mountain Lights in North Carolina? I’m not much for hiking, but for the right people, I’ll do it (cough... Micah Hanks). If I can get Mothman Festival booked for one of my clients, he’ll probably put in an actual appearance. At this point in my life, absolutely nothing will surprise me.

This month was characterized by dissociation; the sense of living in an alternate reality. New Years didn’t feel celebratory as the Omicron variant was ravaging the city, serving as a reminder that we were still in a global pandemic.
I started off the month back in Tulsa for our friends’ wedding and it was a similarly strange experience being thrown back into the space and relationships I was still processing from 2021.
One of my best friends was in the city when I returned, emphasizing the mirror vibes as we hung out in the empty city. We randomly saw Aziz Ansari do a set at Madison Square Garden. We ate pizza. I was training for a marathon. None of it made much sense at all 🥴
It all felt so liminal—I was in a suspended, absurd period between my career, my social life, my relationships, and the state of the world. This culminated in going to the MERGE rave at Market Hotel at the end of the month, where we entered at 11pm and emerged at 8am to a fully silent NYC covered in a foot of snow. I had never heard the city that quiet before; there were no car sounds, no shouting, no birds, nothing. We had to trek all the way back to a friend’s apartment and the only thing we heard on the way was a car eerily playing “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?”
I had no idea where 2022 was going to go and I could have never predicted the ride it was going to take me on. 2021 was chaotic, but 2022 was a fully new challenge. The music in this mix is a representation of that disparate, absurd, liminal, and just plain weird feeling of starting a new year in the remnants of a global pandemic.

WHAT IS HAPPENING IN BRASIL RIGHT NOW:
So, as some of you may have noticed, today (2/10) was elections day here in Brasil. Things are really tense and scary here, at least for myself. Right now, our president, unfortunately, is Jair Bolsonaro, a man who has openly said he supports torture and our dictature, is also openly misogynist, queerphobic, the first thing he did when he became president was putting an end to the ministery of culture, he openly made fun of the pandemic, being able to help the people in need during covid's peak and decided not to, saying things like "it's just a little flu, people need to stop being so dramatic about it", made advertisement of a medecine not approved by doctors which his supporters started taking like water, never properly wore a mask and promoted marches during the lockdown, oh, and also spread fake news about vaccines, wich made a lot of people refuse to take them, among many many maaaany other things (I'm so tired rn, it's 02:59am here, if you guys want to, I can get the sources and post here but tomorrow.). Today we had the chance to take him out of our lives, but this is Brasil, no one takes anything seriously and we always find a nee way to surprise people.
I didn't want to sleep until the votes apuration reached 100% but I'll be waking up super early tomorrow so yeah, I must sleep. Anyways, the vote apuration is currently on 99,99% (it's been for the last hour btw) but those ate the results so far.
Tumblr media
In conclusion, I am legitmately terrified. Lula was our best shot to take him out, so everyone who didn't want Bozo voted for him, and we were really hopefull we could get him elected on the first turn, but now we'll have to have a second one where we choose either Lula or Bolsonaro. The choice is obvious to me, but as you guys can see, most people prefer to elect a genocidal man than a socialist.
I don't really know what I wanted to achieve with this post, but I just thought it was important to let everybody now what is happening here. We are comparing this to our period of dictature, bc a lot of people here still deny the fact we had one or say it was the best time of their lives and that, quoting my grandma "the history books are wrong".
I once had to research the kinds of tortures that were made by the army during the dictature for school and it still haunts me to this day.
And to see people in the streets, using my beloved flag as their symbol to say that that period was good makes me really angry and terribly sad.
I'm fucking terrified of the second turn. Things are getting more and more expensive here. There are reports of people raiding garbage trucks to look for food bc they're hungry. I am lucky to be privileged and I can still buy food, but for how long? I don't really wanna find out what four more years with him as president will do to us, but I'm scared. I'm scared to go out in the streets, and to openly say my opinions on the matter. There are also reports of people being murdered on the streets bc they were wearing stickers of leftists candidates.
Things are scary here. But please, don't let this be ignored like the dictature was. We now have internet on our side. Please, pray for us and wish us luck, we'll need it.
