I know it's a bit on the nose, but I can't think of anyone more like the Ram than Merida. Stubborn, impulsive, firey, playful, passionate... it's all her baby. Even has the red-ass wildwoman hair. For me, she is most like how I behave on the surface, especially when I'm having a good time. She loves fiercely, plays recklessly, and isn't afraid of a bit of danger in the pursuit of living fully. Everything about her is loud, proud, and in your face- and just like the sun, you can't tone her down even for a second. Especially when she's angry. But that anger is a good thing too- it reminds us to stand up for ourselves, for the injustices we see, and to fight wholeheartedly for what's right. She shows us that our emotions are our greatest allies, and if you befriend them, they will help guide you towards your truest path. All this boldness and authenticity allows her to be a truly fearless leader, and one who isn't afraid of breaking traditions to do so.

Helga, for me, is the epitome of my Moon sign. She's no-nonsense, likes things to be efficient and effective, and is constantly scanning for problems to fix. She can also be intimidatingly scary and judgmental when she's pushed into a corner, and then all of those analytical skills can easily turn into weapons of mass destruction. But the more healed way it usually manifests for me is through her tough-love Mommy energy. She has a "right way" in mind, and knows what works and what doesn't. It's not that she's trying to be cruel, or too abrasive, but she sees when someone needs that push and won't hesitate to give them it. She's often the best person for advice if you don't mind being torn to shreds in the process lol.

Now if you were scared at all by the hard-headedness of my first two signs- fear not! My rising sign is here to make me less of a dick lol. Might be a controversial choice, but Genie is definitely a cancer rising. "You've never had a friend like me" is sort of an inside joke of mine, and it's because I truly seek to be the most authentic and loyal friend you've ever had. I'm not just here for a good time- I'm here to change your life! Emotional intimacy is the hallmark of this goal, and I love to really "see" someone, to bear witness to all their ugly and do away with the surface barriers society imposes upon us. I know how crushingly lonely it can be to feel like no one really understands you, or even tries to, and so my bleeding heart takes up arms against this strongly. The way Genie bends over backwards and selflessly grants wishes- even ones he didn't have to- and genuinely wants the best for Aladdin despite the sacrifices it costs him, is the heart and soul of what this sign is for me. Not that this is always a good thing- I've definitely given away way too much without proper boundaries and gotten burned by it- but the way I feel for someone's situation, and want to do everything in my power to make it all better for them, is what Genie and I have in common. The shackles around him often feel how this type of empathy feels too- knowing you care so much and so deeply about someone, trying your best to "poof" their problems away, but having to free yourself from helping them or else it will drag you down as well. It's a big lesson this sign often has to learn the hard way, and boy have I learned it. But still, when it's used correctly and for the right person- nothing feels better than knowing you helped someone feel a lot less alone in this crazy world, and made a positive impact on their soul.

When a caterpillar enters into a Chrysalis, many don't know that the caterpillar completely dissolves into a gooey liquid. None of the previous form is left or used. And then out of the goo begins to emerge the new form, the Butterfly. And the Butterfly 🦋 is capable of doing things that the caterpillar cannot. still on Le Berceau des Dominations and making an absolutely intense experience reading the interviews Dussy had with incestés (those-who-were-incested-upon; very good term, much better than the english dance around victim/survivor/etc, all of which i hate).

several of which (!!) describe developing a personal obsession with stories of torture and resistance, organised around the question of 'telling', 'keeping silent', 'enduring' and transposing this fantasy into their own irl experiences of enduring pain (i.e. the sexual assaults of their childhood but i.e. birthing a child) 'while enduring' 'without betrayal' 'while keeping quiet' etc, or wondering if they could endure that, imagining themselves enduring that while enduring their actual experiences of abuse or pain. fantasising themselves as tortured, essentially. some of them seeking it out in roleplay, even.

i have never glorified or been preoccupied with the question of 'telling' or not under torture, on the contrary, i've always thought it something inappropriate to moralise or glorify, i think even as a kid? but i have been preoccupied by torture. i have related to and deeply appreciated those trauma-bloggers that 'took torture seriously' or are torture survivors. i started this blog wondering about the why of that. fictional characters and scenarios i obsessed about in a personal-projection working-through-of-personal-shit recognising-my-experiences way are torture survivors (gamzee, theon, the book 1984). i partook in written fandom roleplay and fanfic that included torture. the first trauma memoirs i dared to read (because they were 'removed from' my experience) but also the first that helped me in a i-recognise-what-this-talks-about this-puts-experience-to-words way included torture and atrocity memoirs (jean amery, charlotte delbo).

now let's be clear, i have not been tortured, but every day and right now people are. people right now are detained by police and military and are being tortured and i have not experienced that. i am in fact comfortably sitting on my little ass in my little room unmolested and mainly a beneficiary of our social order, gifted with the correct kind of passport, correct kinds of diplomas, beneficiary of attainable food and clothing and electronic devices brought to me via an international order upheld by torture, etc. it cannot be said that i 'do much' about it, except some mild protesting and some opinion sharing. my abuse experiences also do not include torture. they do include pain or debasement or being cornered or kept under locks (for a few hours), but if we started calling every experience where someone stronger physically hurts someone that cannot escape that hurt (for being smaller, or a child, or briefly locked in) 'torture', the word would lose its correct meaning. differences matter. as such, when i 'relate to' fictional torture narratives, or 'see my experience reflected' in memoirs of actual torture, we must wonder why.

dussy's incestés and me (another incesté though not one interviewed by dussy) then use the thought of torture as a kind of metaphor or organising or soothing fantasy, where we transpose our daily experiences of endurance into something else. that you could say, is not ours to claim, but there we are. apparently this is at least common in incested children. which i didn't know! i am incredibly moved by learning how common it is! of course, on the other hand, lots of people all the time try to recommandeer the symbol of 'torture' for their own banal little experiences, so who knows. but i feel there's a difference between common thoughtlessness (calling something 'torture' flippantly because you don't think or care) or bad politics (other example but white feminist using the term 'slavery' for kitchen work and such) and inappropriate indentification (a life-long habit of elaborated fantasies and personal over-relating to themes of 'torture' that you couldn't easily curb even by berating yourself).

the connection dussy implies (or what i read into it, at least) is that part of what fuels the obsession is about the silencing of incest - the symbolism of being disappeared and silenced or forced to talk or forced to modify what one would say or struggling while struggling with loyalties, all of which obviously would be very interesting to incested children or adults who were incested children.

ok, but as someone who regularly has to look people up via personal info like legal names/SSNs for work this is. VERY true. its easy to tell if someones identity matches what we have on file if their name is something unique/unusual. its damn near impossible to do so with a name like john brown if we dont have other identifiers like birthday or phone number to confirm its the same person

to be clear, i work for a small, local debt collector that handles tenant-landlord collections (i thought it was an accounting firm when i applied and didnt know it wasnt until my interview ok). anyway, my point is that it makes the indentification process much harder if you have a common name.

also, i FREQUENTLY find multiple people listed under one SSN, and we have had more than one case where a tenant stole omeone's identity to sign a lease, so make sure you keep an eye on your credit score and open accounts, yall. its getting MUCH easier for your private info to be out there

Bad Gateway Branding- Buttons:

Since deciding to scrap the embroidery patches, there needed to be a stronger piece of indentification assets to be implementing into the merchandise design. The patches were to be inspired by the name and logo patches that are on most uniforms so I thought since we are using buttons on our caps, maybe we should create a design that can be used across the merch so we can achieve this theme objective.

Since receiving the button maker, I was able to measure the template of the design section of the buttonmakinn process and use this as a guide within the Illustrator document. It was important hat I measured both the template size and the button size itself as a lot of the template gets cut off as it wraps around the button so its important that the designs are centred within the document.

The second image across is the template document I created and then shared to the group,I thought it would be an interesting idea to allow the members of the group to add their own design work from their personal exhibition so they are able to add these to their own 'uniform'. The first three designs from the second image is examples of Peters branding design for the Bad Gateway buttons. I loved the idea of implementing new colours as it will enable the buttons to stand out on the caps. However when speaking with Yumna, she advised the pieces to match the existing theme of the Bad Gateway as then we could allow the opportunity to sell the buttons separately aswell as on the caps and shirts. This was a good idea to me as it allows the buyer to diversify their merchandise and make their piece unique to them. The first image is some design changes I made to Peters concept after taking in Yumnas advice. I received some outcomes of peoples personal designs and began to print them. Placing the document in a A2 sized file, I thought this was the next size up from A4. However this was proved differently when meeting some technical errors. When finally being able to access the printer, the buttons came out really small, me and Yumna were really confused as we had accurately measured the buttons. Using Command + 1 on the keyboard allows you to also accurately look at the sizing on the document and it was correct. However because of the paper complications, the A2 file was too big for the printer and the outcomes of the print were actually on A3 which is why they ended up scaled smaller. After a few attempts on the printer, we finally got the right sized button designs.

activists then tried to march to an assembly point (around 200 people), but the front of the demonstration was cut off from the back. we tried to evade the police, but were surrounded and brought to still-stand. the kanton police administered excessive force to the very front of the demonstration by use of batons and rubber bullets. 43 activists were finally surrounded and lawfully identified ("Identitätsfeststellung"), to which we complied peacefully. the surrounded activists were supported by the remainder of the protest standing just outside the closed zone where we were held.

During the indentification itself the police proceeded to treat People Of Colour, particularly hijabi protestors, with more prejudice. surrounded activists were given a temporary ban ("Platzverweis") from official buildings of the university basel until tonight at midnight, for "tresspassing and unautorized demonstration". with the exception of one person, we were not charged with anything.

i am incredibly proud of the other 42 activists with whom i had the honour of standing today. a group of beautiful, kind-hearted people, whose masterful conduct today showed the strength of the basel student, staff, and associates' body!

as of yesterday the Uni Basel has joined major swiss universities in organized student protests against the genocide of palestinians by the apartheid settler state of israel. One buidling is occupied. the goals of the protest are for the university to cut ties with the hebrew university of jerusalem and tel aviv university. additionally the university basel must return the freedom of speech, expression of opinion, and the right to public gathering to its students and staff.
