So, yesterday, I remembered to glance at current dramas on BBC Sounds again for the first time in a while, and got a huge and wonderful shock on finding this at the top of the SFF category.

It's a 1971 6 part supernatural series starring Martin Jarvis & Patricia Gallimore. I don't think it's ever been repeated since. At least parts of it were missing for a while, and I had no idea whether the rest of it was extant or not. But I liked the sound of it enough that I bought the novelisation, and it was top of my impossible radio listening wishlist.

Yesterday, I got to listen to Part 1, Part 2 should be broadcast later today!

Lord of the Rings Vintage TV Recast - Pippin

You're traveling through another dimension - a dimension in which director Peter Jackson is currently getting ready to direct one of his biggest film projects to date, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. He has decided to cast beloved actor, John Astin, of The Addams Family fame, as Gandalf the Grey.

Inspired by this singular casting decision, Peter Jackson and the film's producers have decided to cast The Lord of the Rings films entirely with other vintage television actors. They've entrusted the process of casting for the film to whom they believe will make the perfect decisions: the tumblr userbase.

Each actor will be taken from places in the prime of their television career (as pictured). A common practice in this strange alternate dimension.

It was certainly the first time Brent had been struck with this growing feeling of need, an absolute desire to just have that man all to himself. It was sttrange, since the politician was quite familiar with having various people propsition themselves to him. But he had always held off, wanting to pour all his time and energy into the right one. And once he had seen the superhero in person, saving him and countless others at City Hall, Brent knew that this was the one.

Fate seemed to agree with him, when the other men had also agreed that they felt the same way. It would make for a welcome addition to their home. But there was the unspoken question of who Spiderman really was underneath his mask. To them, he was just a famed hero with a perfect ass. If they wanted his attention and have him in their lives, they would certainly need to know more about him than just who he was in public.

As someone who rarely waited around for what he wanted, Brent opted to take advantage of the heroes' gala that evening. It was an event to commemorate all the hard work the superheroes had done for the city, and for him to personally thank Spiderman for saving his life once more. Brent had slipped the smaller man a note during their handshake, asking for a more private audience upstairs in his office during the event. And so, here the two of them were, one clad in mystery, and the other willing to lay his cards down on the table.

"I appreicate you taking the time to meet me, Mr. Spiderman. Please, take a seat. This is a bit more of a... personal meeting, I'm afraid. Nothing quite like what's happening downstairs. I have more of a proposition for you, if you'd be willing to listen."

The newest "old" (pre-2010) show I am watching is Threshold!

This show has an exceptional cast! Carla Gugino, Peter Dinklage and Brent Spiner are among the protagonists, and William "Ethan Rom" Mapother is in the first two episodes. Unfortunately it was canceled after a single season of 13 episodes.

The series focuses on a secret government project investigating the first contact with an extraterrestrial species; it's really good!

Numerous Trump-aligned media figures have accused the Federal Emergency Management Agency and its officials of committing treason over its handling of Hurricane Helene. Those right-wing figures have said that “whoever is running FEMA is guilty of treason your time is coming when Trump wins”; that Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas “should be in prison for the treason he has perpetrated against this country”; and that someone should “hang” government officials “by the necks till they're dead and let their dead bodies rot while people see what is done to treasonous government. ... I believe it's way past time for an armed revolution.”  This kind of rhetoric is part of a larger theme: Former President Donald Trump and his media allies have repeatedly promised retribution against government officials and the media if he wins a second term in office. 

Media Matters has been documenting the spread of conspiracy theories in the wake of Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Pro-Trump allies, including those who are scheduled to appear at Trump-affiliated events in North Carolina, have been pushing the conspiracy theory that weather manipulation caused the recent hurricanes.  Vitriol against FEMA has already resulted in real-world consequences. A North Carolina man was arrested for allegedly making an anti-FEMA threats, and The Washington Post reported that “threats against federal emergency response personnel have hampered relief work in parts of western North Carolina hard hit by Hurricane Helene, prompting disaster workers to relocate because of safety concerns and feeding a cycle of fear and anxiety.” Numerous right-wing media figures, including those linked to Trump, have claimed that FEMA and its officials are guilty of “treason,” with some suggesting that they should be killed. 

MAGA media commentators and outlets such as Glenn Beck, Charlie Kirk, Stew Peters, and The Hodgetwins push the baseless, paranoid, and dangerous lie that FEMA committed “treason” over its handling of Hurricane Helene.

Comics! was a CBC stand-up series that aired in the 1990s. Each episode featured one comic doing a half hour set. It was the first show of its kind in Canada - essentially a weekly stand-up special.

For the comedians featured it was the most airtime they had ever had up to that point.

Among the Canadian comedians who did an episode long before they were famous: Brent Butt, Bonnie McFarlane, Caroline Rhea, Harland Williams, Russell Peters, and Stephen Colbert's executive producer Barry Julien.
