How do i Make Icon masks (Tutorial)

I USE ALIGHT MOTION!! you can actually create icon masks on ibispaint or other app i just use alight motion beacuse thats where im more comfortable in, i havent do icon masks for month so i was curious about making tutorial

so you wanna look up " mask icon " on pinterest and pick the border u like !! MAKE SURE ITS BLACK AND WHITE

then take the imagine into ibispaint !!! press the plus button and then import picture !!! click on the layer button ( the three overlapping squares on the bottom ) and then click the three dots on the bottom of the righthand column !! once there , select " clear white ( color ) " and that should make it transparent !!

then , in that same layer screen , click on the camera icon on the left and add the image you want to be in the border ! once you add that , position it how you want and click the button on the bottom that says " clipping " !!

don't forget to save the image as a transparent png or it won't work !! hope this could help you !!!

the time it takes you to slap text and glow effects and re-create your mask is equal to (or in some cases, less than) the time it takes to

record/download high quality video footage

upscale it

adjust the speed

adjust the coloring

add individual effects

coordinate the set and time each individual gif to ensure they line up

and render gifsets

especially of the quality we see from people like @alexxmason and @collinnmckinley (whose gifs were stolen)

this is just a false equivalence made by someone who's mad. besides the gifmaking aspect... are you SERIOUSLY saying that writers aren't artists?? aren't creatives who put effort into things??? genuinely fucking confused here, mate.

and in case the archive images don't load, this is how the exchange went down when privately asked to delete the reposted gifs. these screencaps were posted by @codcat and come from his instagram, where he reposted the tumblr convo without censoring the url.

meaning that his fans could find people and harass them should they choose to do so.

so much for the whole "not linking to avoid harassment" mentality, huh?

I noticed you got that circle thing with teeth how you did that?

that's quite simple !! (I found the tutorial on Pinterest)

first, search for a profile mask (personally i search them on Pinterest) and download the one you want to use.

then, go on remove.bg to remove any possible background color : everything that is the mask will become transparent.

then, go on Ibis Paint X (it's free on mobile even though there are more and more ads lately). Export the mask as a layer, do the same with the picture you want to have as a pfp. then, make the pic as a mask over the pfp mask (or the opposite, i always confuse at this part there). and now you should have your pfp with cool borders !!

so first i love doing text gradients bc it makes it overall pretty -> tutorial here and i do all my themes last minute actually lol so it’s jus at the top of my head :P sometimes i use canva / but i mostly use adobe / ps instead. i’ll prob use canva for my next theme in a few days,

i usually get my pfps from pinterest which is like from a manga or wtv then i crop + mask it out or make it circular using an app likeeee picsart ^^

majority of the stuff i use is free tho, ps i don’t think so but ya !! best advice i can say is to just freestyle with ur themes !! 👨🏽‍💻 that’s what i do, i play around with my color palette ( the blue and pink on the top of my blog ) and try to make everything match accordingly 💓 also make sure you have somewhat of a neat format so it’s easy to read n understand <3 hope this helps >.~

SO UHH tutorial to the best of my abilities

take a banner mask kay.

( i used this one i forgot who its from )

take the ruler tool and crop a little bit at the top and add a funny graphic ( i find that dividers here work incredibly great for this ) where you cut the banner off

find an image, preferably one that looks good with your pfp & your actual blog colours but hey i can't control what you do, and mask it onto the banner mask

find miscellaneous graphics and spew them around wherever they fit and pray it still looks nice

if you want the matching thing i did in mine, I literally just used symmetrical pfp masks and made them additionally pretty by messing around with overlays and blending modes etc etc

then i just like added lyrics i like shrug

ALSO my pfp is like uh. a pfp mask. i always add a circle colour border around it cuz I like it, then i just added the monster on top. not willing to share my mask specifically tho sorry

Hi babe! I have never used Photopea before, but it looks similar to PS. I am going to do my best to explain what I think is the easiest way to make a PFP in it.

Before we start, you need 2 things:

1) A PNG image you would like to use. There are plenty of free PNG packs on Deviantart.com to choose a picture from. I am using one from this pack.

In case you don't have a RAR file opener (most PNG packs are compressed into a RAR file) you can convert RAR files to ZIP files here. Once it's converted to a ZIP file, open it and find the PNG you want to use. Keep it somewhere you can easily find it.

2) Download this PSD

Alright, here we go!

Step 1) Open Photopea at https://www.photopea.com/

Step 2) Open the PSD file in Photopea via File>Open, or by dragging the file and dropping it into the work area. Click on the layer called "png image".

Step 3) Drag your PNG into your workspace. It should be placed beneath the folder "Ky's PSD" and above the circle called "change color". Delete the original PNG image of Lisa from BP (I left it in so you could play around with the original file if you wanted)

Step 4) Holding down the SHIFT key, click and drag any of the handles (the little squares) to resize your image to your preferred size. You can click anywhere on the image and move your mouse to reposition it or use your arrow keys to move it pixel by pixel.

TIP: If you accidentally click out of the transform mode image, go to Edit>Free Transform

Step 5) Holding down the Option/ALT key, click and drag the "change color" layer's Mask (the black and white circle square) to the png layer in the Layers Panel.

Now both layers should have a circle mask.

Step 6) Right-click the layer preview on the png image (literally right-click where the face is) and click "Select Pixels".

The original image outline should now have marching ants.

Step 7) Click the PNG layer's mask (black and white circle square) and click the paintbrush on your left-side toolbar. Make sure your forefront color is white in the bottom left corner.

Step 8) Now paint back in the parts you want to show. For this icon, I want the hat to show, so I paint over where her hat is not showing. This brings it back into view.

Step 9) Click Select>Deselect

Step 10) Holding down the Option/ALT key, click and drag the mask on the PNG layer to the PSD folder (I put my PSD in this file, but you can download and use any PSD you want. Just open it in Photopea and copy and paste the layers into this file.) All 3 layers in the Layers panel should have a mask now.

Step 11) If you have extra transparent space that needs to be cropped out, click the Crop tool on the left toolbar. Holding down the SHIFT key, click a handle (square) and move it to where it touches the corners of the PNG or circle, whichever your particular image needs.

You can also use the arrow keys to move the crop circle around, or use your mouse tool. Once it is placed where you want, press the Enter key.

For this icon, I cropped out some extra space on the left and right sides.

Step 12) Select the PNG preview image again, and click Filter>Sharpen>Smart Sharpen, and set it to 200% and 0.3 pixels.

Step 13) Export your icon by clicking File>Export as>PNG and click save.

Your icon is now ready to upload. Here is how this one turned out:

no yeah! i use ibispaint for it bc its the easiest

first pick your two colors for the gradient and just use lens blur filter until it blends just right

* pick the panels you want

* say yes to the extract drawing line filter, it'll make the background transparent

* import your gradient

* use clipping mask on the gradient so it just goes onto the lines

* create a background layer

* screenshot your tumblr blog background color and import it

* use the color picker and the biggest brush you can find, i use the dip pen soft

* color in the background

and there you go. you need to do a little trial and error to find the size of the header on tumblr, i can't remember the exact size so i can't help much there

hi nonie! first of all, thank you sososo much :<  this is my first tutorial so pls bear with me :: i’m not very good with words ksjdksjd

how to do this:

this requires: basic photoshop skills

warning: very image heavy

first upload your photo to photoshop (i use photoshop cc 2019, but whatever version will work!) and sharpen your photo (i use topaz clean + smart sharpen). then crop your photo into a square/1:1 ratio and add your psd

now you want to erase/cut the background off, i use the quick selection tool. with your brush, select the subject

and then click on “select and mask” (located at the top bar) and enter these settings (you can adjust it to your liking but i personally just enter either 0 or 1 px for the radius) and then click “ok”

then right click on your canvas select inverse then press “backspace/delete” on your laptop and then right click > deselect

time to make your icon!

resize your image by clicking image > image size: (i eitherr use 128px or 150px it depends on you what you want hehe) then click ok

to make the circle, click on “shape tool > ellipse”. you can click and drag or just click on the canvas and input your settings: 

you can change the color of your circle by double clicking your “ellipse layer” (click the part where the arrow is pointing, not the name of your layer if that makes sense kjsdsd)

drag your shape layer so that it will be behind your subject. then while staying on the shape tool, right click on your canvas, select “make a selection” and then click “ok”. selecting the “marquee tool”, right click on your canvas > select inverse. this way, what is outside the circle we selected a while ago can be erased. this is how it’s supposed to look:

click on “layer 0″ and then select the “eraser tool”. start erasing the parts that you want to not be showing outside the circle, which in my picture, is the whole bottom part. it’ll look like this:

select your “marquee tool” again, right click > deselect. you have now made an icon with a cutout!

to save: click file > export > save for web, select png-24 and hit save!

and this is how it’ll look like!

note: i didn’t add any other effects like blush, but feel free to do that too! :)

It's a bit of a lengthy process but I used a picrew to make the flag.

You kind of have to experiment a bit with the given choices and the color options but this was the most inclusive flag maker I could find.

As for the pfp itself, I'm not actually sure if I can help that much since I used to be an Alight Motion editor and I just did a lot of shapes and masking on there but ask me if you still want a tutorial anyway.
