it was a hectic but fun shift at your daycare job. the kids love you and you equally got along with them. your coworkers reasoned that it was because of your youthfulness that made working with them a breeze and you couldn’t disagree.
there was just 5 kids left and it was nearing the hour that would mean you’re working overtime but you didn’t mind.
the kids played with the toys around the room but you had just tidied up the place so they made sure to not make too much of a mess.
just as you were about to settle down on the floor, the doorbell rang signalling a parent was there. you instantly got up and chuckled at the way you didn’t even get to touch the floor.
you took a look to the glass entrance door to see who was there and usually you’d be able to recognise the parent/guardian but you have never seen this person ever. you looked over the kids in the room and back to the door. “i’ll be back okay, stay here,” you instructed to the kids who gave a sweet nod.
at the entrance stood a tall, lanky man. you couldn’t tell what his age could be but if you had to guess, he was probably your age or a bit older. he had hair that framed his face well and he was definitely someone that could brag about his looks. his appearance made your heart flutter.
often when you couldn’t recognise someone, you’d fear that this was a complete stranger, could be be those kidnappers but you didn’t get those vibes from him. or was it the pretty privilege?
you pressed the button which unlocked the door and he stepped in, “hi, i’m here for choi yuna,” he kindly spoke and shot a smile that could kill.
despite the looks that could sway you, you were hesitant. yuna was choi seungcheol’s daughter. you knew seungcheol was a busy man. he ran a big company but he never failed to pick up his daughter. plus he dropped her off in the morning and didn’t mention someone else would be picking her up which made this suspicious.
“im sorry, i need to know if you’re allowed to pick her up, how do you know her?”
“sorry! forgot to introduce myself, i’m yoon jeonghan, seungcheol’s secretary, he would've came but his meeting ran long so he sent me to pick yuna up.”
you were still unsure, you weren’t gonna take any chances for a case to happen, “can i make a call to seungcheol first?”
jeonghan let out a husky laugh, “you’re careful huh? what if i just showed you a picture of me and him together?"
“that won’t be enough.”
“alright but if you’re gonna call him, he’s could still be in his meeting i think your call will just be transferred.”
you already had your eyes on your phone but gave him a look as he said that. you still made the call and it instantly connected. “yn? is everything okay?“ the man on the other line opened with concern in his voice.
“hi mr.choi! yea, i just wanted to confirm that you sent someone else to pick up yuna?”
“ah- yes, im so sorry i just got out my meeting if i was the one to come yuna would still be there so i sent jeonghan. don’t worry, he’s a trusted friend! sorry for not letting you know.”
“no worries, just wanted to make sure,” you quietly sighed with relief. you said goodbye and ended the call. you stared at your screen and there was a loud silence for like 2 seconds until you closed your phone and lowered your head to the secretary, “sorry for making a hassle.”
he gave a sympathetic smile and waved his hands, pushing you back up, “no, don’t be! you’re just doing your job, it’s good your keeping these children as safe as you can. i’m glad you’re being this careful, if anything, if you weren’t so cautious i probably would’ve told seungcheol to find a new daycare.”
he was surprisingly nice.
“thanks,” you couldn’t hold back your grin. “um, i’m going to go get yuna.”
he nodded and you walked to the fence which led to the section of the room to the kids were in. jeonghan peered over and his eyebrows instantly rose. he didn’t know there were still children there. he got shocked that the kids weren’t checking if their parents were there. they were just sitting in a circle, playing and sharing the toys. usually they would be hoping the parents are here right? why weren’t they checking?
but jeonghan saw the way their face lit as you walked towards them. perhaps the environment was that good he thought to himself.
you held yuna’s hand and walked to the exit.
“i don’t want to go yet yn!” yuna clamoured. you softly laughed, “you’ll come back tomorrow.”
jeonghan silently watched you in confusion. were you an angel or something? kids love it when their parents are here, if anything, they cry at the absence of their parents right? yet someone like yuna who’s close their parents is clinging onto you.
“yuna!” jeonghan called out.
“uncle?” yuna beamed and ran to the older man, her height allowing her to only hug his legs.
jeonghan bent down and patted her head, “dad can’t make it so i’m here but we’ll see him in a bit okay?”
yuna nodded signing she understood. “did you bring your bicycle?” she asked with wonder in her eyes.
“bicycle?” jeonghan furrowed his eyebrows.
“the one you always come to my house with!” yuna hinted.
the man was left puzzled but also mildly embarrassed at the possibility that you’s think he uses a bicycle to get to places, “yuna, what bicycle?”
“the loud bicycle!”
“a motorcycle?” you chipped in.
“ahh—,” he did have a motorcycle. he was stunned and wondered what you thought of him— but actually, why does he care what you think.
jeonghan recollected himself, “your dad wouldn’t let me but hey, the car waiting for us outside has a tv!”
yuna was notably convinced the car was better especially with the way she hopped and cheered. you giggled at the way he changed her opinion so easily.
jeonghan stood up and held yuna’s belongings, “guess we’re good to go, say thank you to yn yuna.”yuna jumped to give you a hug and jeonghan waved a goodbye. soon, the two walked out.
you closed the door and deeply exhaled. you placed your hand over your chest yet your heartbeat couldn’t slow down. there was something about that man.
jeonghan looked back at the daycare’s door. he thought of the way his heart beated twice more than usual since he walked through that door.
was it you or the 5 sugars he put in his coffee that afternoon?
he shook his head and laughed after recalling the measures you went through to make sure he wasn’t a kidnapper or something.
“do you like yn yuna?” jeonghan turned to her. “why?” yuna dragged her words at the end. jeonghan inhaled stiffly forgetting about how yuna was in her ‘why’ phase. “just asking, so do you enjoy yn’s company?”
“of course! they're really nice! they always play with me and one time they bought me stickers!" jeoghan knew which stickers yuna was talking about. it was pasted somewhere in seungcheol's office and jeonghan made fun of him for it. his heart warmed at the way you seemed to be a genuinely good person. he’s known you for a few seconds but though your actions first impression, he could tell you were someone worth meeting and he liked people like that.
he really couldn't tell why but for some reason, he wanted to be the one to pick up yuna tomorrow.
luckily for him, he’s the secretary and he can manipulate his boss’s’ schedule however he’d like to.

I know other writers have done similar requests, but I just eat this stuff up every time I see it. There’s just something so funny to me about characters getting jealous over a plushie. I hope you like it, and I hope I was able to do your request justice! FYI: All of the characters can be read platonically, but I did add an extra bullet point for each that leans more into romantic territory and is marked as such! (Also, my Sun and Moon bias is showing.)

🐻: Freddy doesn’t get jealous very easily; in fact, he’s probably the least possessive animatronic in the entire Pizzaplex (with Chica being a close second)! So, when he notices you fawning over a plushie of himself you bought for yourself at the gift shop, he actually finds it quite adorable. You just look so cute treating the mini/softer version of himself as if it was alive! He may even take a few pictures of the sweet display. It doesn’t bother him in the slightest that you’re excited about your new plushie.
🐻: However, he does start wondering if you’re trying to make him jealous after a few days of this behavior. In the beginning, he just thought you were excited to have a new stuffed animal for your collection, but he now had a sneaking suspicion that you were doing this on purpose. So, being the mature fellow that he is, Freddy decides to just ask you directly about your behavior. He even tells you that you almost purposefully ignoring him in favor of a stuffed toy makes him feel… not so great.
🐻: Oh no, your “Make-Freddy-Jealous” plan backfired exponentially – all you ended up doing was make him feel bad! You just wanted to know if he could even feel an emotion like jealousy considering how open and emotionally mature he was… guess you got your answer there. You quickly apologize to Freddy, though, telling him that you could never love a stuffed animal more than you love and care about him. Thankfully Freddy isn’t the type of animatronic to hold a grudge, so your words make his mood brighten immediately. He forgives you fairly quickly since he knows you didn’t mean any harm by your little prank, but he will bring it up in the future to lightheartedly tease you over such a childish stunt.
🐻 (Romantic Bonus Headcanon): Freddy will just watch you with a somewhat blank stare as you essentially drown the plush in a sea of kisses. There it is, that uncomfortable feeling again… So, he makes his way over to you, gently removing the plush from your grasp and bringing your hands up to cup his face. Freddy smiles at you gently and, with the plushie completely forgotten due to how cute the animatronic in front of you was, you instead started placing kisses all over his faceplate as you both giggle about the absurdity of the situation.
Tumblr media
🐊: Monty was very quickly not happy with the plushie of himself you managed to win in a crane game while you were slacking off taking a break in the Fazcade. At first, he felt his ego soar when he noticed how happy you were to have a smaller stuffed version of himself as you showed it off to him and some of his bandmates, but that feeling quickly faded with all of the attention you were currently giving it and not him (Monty is the complete opposite of Freddy when it comes to jealousy). You two were supposed to be playing golf, not fawning over some stupid doll.
🐊: He fairly quickly comes up with an idea to get rid of the thing so you two could continue on with your usual hangout routine. Without much more thought to his plan, he goes to enact it. Monty points out something across the course and, when your attention is diverted, he “accidentally” knocks your plushie out of your hands and into the chlorinated water that weaves in and out of the golf course. At first, he finds the look on your face funny, but that’s quickly replaced with guilt when he sees your eyes start tearing up.
🐊: He quickly grabs the plushie from the water and, with you following close behind him, takes it to one of the staff break rooms where a washer and dryer were located (they were there in case your uniform got dirty in one way or another – it was an establishment primarily for kids, after all, so stains were quite common). He apologizes in a painfully Monty way and, after some more crocodile tears from you, you eventually accept his apology when your beloved prize comes out of the dryer unscathed and only smelling slightly like a public pool. Not that much different from the real thing, honestly.
🐊 (Romantic Bonus Headcanon): As soon as Monty sees you place a single kiss on the plushie’s face, it’s over for the poor thing. The exact moment your lips make contact with the cottony material, it is hastily grabbed out of your hands and flung across the room, bouncing off the wall with a comedic squeak. It’s unscathed since Monty knows how much you like the stupid thing, but he’s not letting you go near it for the rest of the night. He’ll just fling himself across your lap, making you essentially stuck in place as he demands to have your undivided attention.
Tumblr media
☀️: When he sees you holding and doting over a stuffed version of himself one of the kids gave to you as a present, Sun feels his non-existent heart soar over the metaphorical moon; you just looked so cute playing with the mini Sun plushie alongside the children! However, once all the kids had left with their respective guardians, you were still playing with the doll. Well, that was strange – normally you’d be spending the last half hour of your shift spending one-on-one time with him. As more time passed and the time for you to clock out was nearing, Sun took it into his own hands to get your attention back on him.
☀️: Sun made his way over to you with a smile, easily snatching the plush from your hands and running around the daycare with it in his grasp. If you weren’t going to pay attention to him yourself, he just had to make you! You do as he expected, chasing him around almost as if you two were playing tag (or more in this case keep away). This isn’t quite what he wanted, but Sun was glad you were at least spending time with him, even if said time was mostly you yelling at him as you took time to catch your breath after running around for however long.
☀️: For good measure, Sun even puts the plush in timeout on a shelf far above where you could grab it without the need for a stepstool; it was a pain how tall the animatronics were sometimes (plus the fact you couldn’t find a single stepstool in the entire daycare). With crossed arms and a stern façade, Sun asks why bother playing with something that can’t even play back. After all, he thought you liked spending time with him before your shift ended! Believe it or not, Sun has a slight manipulative streak and, since he knows you have a soft spot for him, it doesn’t take very much convincing for you to spend the rest of your shift making arts and crafts rather than fawning over a plushie.
☀️ (Romantic Bonus Headcanon): Sun stares you down like a hawk from across the daycare as you place feathery kisses all over the face of the mini Sun. Thankfully the children were gone, so now he could enact his revenge for having to see you fawn over the plush for the past however many hours. Sun makes his way over to you and, without any warning, lifts you up in his arms and holds you the exact same way you’re holding the doll in your hands, placing his unique “kisses” all over your face just as you had done to the plush. Eventually the stuffed toy is forgotten in favor of giving your favorite animatronic your undivided attention.
Tumblr media
🌙: Moon pretty much immediately knows you’re up to something due to the strange amount of attention you were giving the small plushie version of himself. He’s sitting on the floor, cradling one of the children who is fast asleep in his arms as he glared at you from across the daycare. You were babying the mini Moon doll, giving it more attention than you had ever given him. As much as he hated to admit it, it was quite an annoying sight to see. He had no clue why he was becoming jealous over a plush, but he needed to get rid of the thing fast.
🌙: Gently setting the child down on the soft mat in front of him, Moon silently made his way over to where you were sitting as you fiddled with the small bell on the plushie’s hat. You didn’t even notice Moon approaching until the plush was ripped out of your hands, the small bell jingling as Moon dangled it above your head with a smirk. You were going to shout at him, but he quickly cut that idea off by placing a finger to his mouth and making a “shh” noise between his closed teeth.
🌙: However, no matter how much you quietly pleaded for him to give it back, Moon drew his arm back and flung the plushie over the glass walls. It landed in the net that surrounded the daycare and now had to sit there before you’d be able to retrieve it after closing. Moon didn’t feel bad in the slightest since you’d easily be able to get it back, but now you were ignoring him on purpose. Oh well, he’s sure you’ll get over it before the night ended. If you gave him the silent treatment for days, however, he would eventually apologize for throwing your stupid doll into the net.
🌙 (Romantic Bonus Headcanon): The lights were off and you two were finally able to have some time to spend with one another, but here you were kissing a doll of the very animatronic you were supposed to be hanging out with right at that moment. Was Moon jealous over a stuffed toy? Perhaps he was, but he knew a fairly easy way to get your attention back on him. Walking over to where you were currently sitting, Moon sat down beside you and wormed his way into your lap, grabbing your face after batting the plush out of your hands before pulling you down and placing a feathery light kiss on your lips. Now that was certainly one way to get your attention, but it definitely worked out in the end.

Jitters - Eddie Munson x Reader
An As You Wish story
Tumblr media
Collaboration with my darling @munson-blurbs
Summary: It's the first day of school for the Munson children--ever for Eliza, but their dad is being the biggest baby of them all.
Note: With all the back-to-school excitement going on I thought, "What would Eddie be like when Eliza first starts school?" So, voila. As always, I am so thankful for all of you who read and have the loveliest things to say 💕
Words: 3.2k
[As You Wish masterlist]
Tumblr media
If someone were to take bets on which Munson is the most miserable on the first day of school, they might pick Ryan. Sixteen years old, starting his junior year, and seemingly irritated by every move someone makes.
They might pick fourteen-year-old Luke, the Tasmanian Devil himself, constantly lamenting about how boring his teachers are.
Or they might pick Eliza, no longer getting to be the big fish in the daycare’s small pond, but now a full-fledged preschooler—one who is not happy about getting up early.
Any of these would be fine guesses. But they would also be dead wrong.
“My babies are all grown up!” Eddie bemoans, watching Eliza slide a comically oversized Little Mermaid backpack over her tiny shoulders. He stares at his sons as they shove their feet into their new sneakers, conveniently ignoring the repeated warnings not to break their shoes.
Ryan catches his dad looking at them and rolls his eyes. “Take a picture; it’ll last longer,” he quips, groaning when Eddie dashes into the bedroom to grab his camera. “Crap, I didn’t mean literally.”
“Swear jar!” Luke chirps, all-too excited to catch his big brother slipping up.
“‘Crap’ isn’t a swear word, dumbass.”
“Another dollar in the swear jar!” Luke roars, nearly colliding with the wall as he darts away from Ryan before the elder boy can get his hands on him.
You give the two boys a biting glare from across the room. If you can't keep them from using bad language all the time, they at least need to adhere to the rule when their little sister is in the room. Luckily, Eliza is currently admiring her new black Mary Jane shoes and was paying no mind to what was happening around her.
Before Ryan and Luke can start bickering again, you herd them over to the side of the living room where the lighting is the best for pictures.
“Come on, come on,” you say as you practically push them across the space. “Dad’s getting the camera, let’s get this show on the road.”
Ryan groans and drops his head back in irritation. “Can’t you just take some of Eliza? You have enough of us.”
“We never have enough of you,” you tell him, moving towards him on instinct to press a kiss to the top of his head—only to come face to face with the reminder that he’s taller than you now. “Eliza, come on over here, baby girl.”
Eliza looks up from where she’s now inspecting the pink overall dress she’s wearing. Her two curly little pigtails bounce with every motion. She hikes up her green sparkly princess backpack as she skips towards you. She becomes derailed, however, when Eddie walks back into the room. Eliza diverts her attention and makes a not-quite-a-surprise attack on his legs.
“Rawr! Gotchu Daddy!”
“Oh no!” Eddie feigns, clasping the camera to his chest. “I guess I can’t take you to preschool then, huh? Such a shame.”
“Nice try,” you tell him. “She’s still going.”
Eddie’s brows furrow together in another one of the little pouts he’s been giving you for the past few days. He thinks his baby girl is growing up too fast—does he think you don’t feel the same way? You just don’t show your emotions as expressively as your husband does.
“She’s only three,” Eddie says about your daughter. “Shouldn’t we wait until she’s at least four?”
“She’ll be four next month, Eddie,” you remind him. “This is when she’s supposed to start preschool.”
The sullen father has nothing to say in response to that, so he just looks down at the camera and fiddles with it, making sure there’s enough film and that it’s on the right settings. You take the opportunity to walk over towards Ryan.
“Was he this bad when Luke started school?” you ask in a hushed voice.
Ryan considers it for a moment before shrugging. “In my childhood mind, no. But I also used to believe it when Dad told me I’d look like Popeye if I ate my spinach, so who knows?”
“I can only imagine how he was with you.” With a small smirk, you grab Ryan’s arms and give him a small shake from side to side. “His first born,” you coo in a sickeningly sweet tone. Ryan shoos you away from him, but you can see the smile on his face that he’s trying his damndest to hide.
In the meantime, Luke grabs a Kleenex box from the kitchen counter, lowering onto bended knee and presenting it to Eddie.
“A gift for thou, Sir Sobs-a-Lot,” he says, adopting an exaggerated British accent.
Eddie thumps him on the back of the head, but takes a tissue regardless.
“Wayne always said I’d be screwed if my kids were as weird as me,” he muses.
“Dad,” Luke fake-whines, “don’t say that about Eliza!”
Eliza furrows her little eyebrows and makes a run for her brother, charging towards him like a provoked rhinoceros.
Luke is quicker, though, and holds her prisoner against his chest with a menacing cackle.
“Mean brother,” Eliza mumbles, face smushed against him.
He grins triumphantly. “That’s why you love me so much.” He presses a big smacking kiss to her cheek and lets her go, gasping in feigned offense when she wipes it away and wanders back to Eddie.
“Time for school! Let’s gooooooo, Daddy!” She takes his hand and tugs him towards the door, equal parts eager and exasperated.
Eddie obliges, but you can tell that this isn’t easy for him. “Why is she so eager to leave?” he asks you under his breath. “Ryan and Luke were practically wrapped around my ankles begging me to let them stay home.”
“I think she’s just excited to meet new friends and learn new things!” you say with a smile, trying to hold back your own tears. “Isn’t that right, Liza Bean?”
Eliza nods vigorously. “Luke says I get Play-Doh!”
“Remember,” Luke crouches down to tell her, “it’s important that you taste the Play-Doh before you use it.”
The comment earns him another thump to the head from Eddie.
“Please don’t eat Play-Doh,” you beg your daughter. Or listen to anything Luke says, you silently add.
“Yeah, just stick to your lunch,” Ryan offers, always the voice of reason.
“Lots of fruits and veggies,” Luke jumps in. “Remember why?”
“SCURVY!” Eliza proudly shouts, beaming from ear to ear.
Eddie exhales and rubs the bridge of his nose, at a total loss for words. “Can you crazy children just take the pictures so we can go?” he finally manages, patience sufficiently worn thin.
“Sir, yes, sir!” the boys salute in unison.
“Yes, sir!” Eliza chimes in, happy to emulate her big brothers.
You take the camera from Eddie when you see his jaw clench. You’d been afraid of your daughter having a meltdown today, but you obviously should have been worrying about her dad.
“Okay,” you say, nodding for them to arrange themselves in front of the wall for a picture, “all three of you, first.”
Begrudgingly on the part of the teenagers, and happily on the part of the little girl exiting toddlerhood, they come together and manage to stand still while you grab a few shots of them.
“Now just Ryan, then Luke, then Liza,” you instruct. Ryan rolls his eyes as his two younger siblings step away from him.
“This is never going to end,” he mumbles.
Figuring it’s just easier to ignore him, you get your pictures of Ryan before moving on to solo Luke and then Eliza. “Now get in there, Dad,” you tell Eddie, gesturing him over to join the kids.
The moment Eddie is within reaching distance of her, Eliza raises her tiny arms to her father and insists that he holds her in the picture. Eddie, unable to deny her anything as always, complies.
“Just me and Daddy!” Eliza says.
“Eliza’s will be done,” you say before snapping one of just the pair of them.
“All right, all right,” Luke says, motioning for you to give him the camera. “You get in there, too. We’ve got a monumental day here. Another Munson in the school system.”
As you pose next to your daughter and husband, you see Ryan out of the corner of your eye. He leans in behind you and holds up two fingers as bunny ears behind Eliza’s head. His little sister didn’t see him, but she was going to get a kick out of that once you got the pictures developed. Luke also noticed the photobomber, so he takes another nicer picture.
“We ready to go now?” Luke asks. “Big day for me too, ya know. Starting high school and all. No one’s all fussy over me and I bet it’s because I don’t have pigtails. Damn.”
Eddie claps Luke on the shoulder as you take the camera from your son. “Didn’t wanna make ya nervous, kid,” Eddie says. “Also, dollar in the swear jar.”
Luke scoffs and presses a hand to his chest. “Have I ever been nervous a day in my life?”
“Well,” Ryan starts with a smug smile, “that depends if you count the time that you got paired up with Missy Collins for that science project.”
Luke’s face turns pink and his nostrils flare. You’re almost taken aback because you think this is the most flustered you’ve ever seen the usually cool and mischievous boy. Luke goes from standing perfectly still to lunging toward his older brother in milliseconds.
Ryan just lets out a whooping laugh and dodges him by heading outside. Luke is hot on his tail.
Eliza looks up at you and shakes her head, little brown pigtails swaying with the motion.
“Boys,” she says, an air of sophistication older than her three years in her tone.
“Boys,” you agree, offering her your hand. Her little fingers slide into your own and you head out the front door behind the two teenagers. Eddie grabs his keys and follows his family out.
The keys jingle in your husband’s hand, a nervous tic as he walks over to the car and unlocks it. The three kids pile into the back and Eliza and Luke bicker over buckling her car seat as you slip into the passenger’s side.
“Everyone have everything?” Eddie asks as soon as the arguing stops. “Backpacks? Lunches? Or lunch money?”
A chorus of “yes” comes from the backseat so Eddie starts the car and pulls out of the driveway, instantly wishing he could turn around and take everyone back home.
Tumblr media
You, Eddie, and Eliza somehow arrive at the preschool on time, but not before your daughter had thoroughly embarrassed her brothers on the high school drop-off line. She’d begged Eddie to roll down her window so she could yell to them as they joined their friends.
“Bye, Ryan! Bye, Lukie!” she’d shouted. “I love you!”
You and Eddie thought it was hilarious. Luke and Ryan? Not so much.
But now, your husband is a total wreck as Eliza marches full steam ahead towards the school’s doors. Truthfully, you’re almost as bad as he is, but you’re trying to keep it together—for Eliza’s sake and for Eddie’s.
“You ready, Eliza?” You crouch down and place your hands on her shoulders.
“Yep!” She nods, baby teeth on full display when she grins excitedly.
Eddie narrows his eyes in disbelief. “Are you sure?” he asks, making you roll your eyes.
“Yep!” Eliza repeats; thankfully, she’s oblivious to his inner turmoil.
“You’re going to have a great time and make lots of new friends,” you tell her.
“And I’ll be right here, ready to pick you up when it’s over,” Eddie adds as he crouches down next to you.
It takes all your strength not to roll your eyes again or elbow Eddie in the ribs.
Eliza nods her head, little pigtails bouncing with the movement. She hikes her backpack up higher and gives you both another wide smile.
“Ready to go in?” you ask.
“Uh huh.”
You take her hand and she leads you into her new classroom, Eddie following along behind you. He’s quite literally dragging his feet, a human version of Eeyore the donkey.
A teacher, not too much younger than you, comes up to greet you all. “Hi, everyone!” she chirps in a tone that signals over-caffeination. “Welcome to preschool! I’m Miss Riley, your teacher.”
For the first time this morning, Eliza seems hesitant. She looks up at you for approval and you nod your head at her.
“I’m Eliza Marie Munson,” she announces, and you bite back a laugh at her formality.
“It’s very nice to meet you, Eliza,” Miss Riley says. “You’ve got both Mommy and Daddy with you here today, huh?”
“Yep! Was just gonna be Daddy but then Mommy said she didn’t think he’d really take me here.”
You squeeze your lips together as your daughter calls out your husband’s behavior; Eddie closes his eyes, a small smile appearing on his face. Both of you know (partially due to your experiences with Luke and Ryan when they were younger) that anything that went on in your house that Eliza knew about would be fair game to be shared with her whole class.
“Well, I’m very glad you’re here,” Miss Riley replies, holding a hand out for a high-five that your daughter eagerly returns. “Would you like me to show you where your cubby is?”
“Okay!” Eliza turns around and waves to you and Eddie.  “Bye Mommy! Bye Daddy!”
“No hugs?” Eddie asks, a pout forming on his plush lips.
Eliza rolls her eyes as if this is the most unreasonable request she’s ever heard, but obliges.
You give her a tight squeeze, pressing a kiss to her temple. “You’re gonna have an amazing day, baby girl,” you remind her.
“I know, Mommy.”
Eddie’s hug can only be described as bone-crushing, with Eliza letting out a dramatic grunt as he holds her.
“Eliza Munson, you are the smartest, bravest little girl I know,” he says, voice catching in his throat. “I want you to go out there and kick some a—butt,” he hurriedly amends, but not before earning a glare from you.
“Most importantly, be nice,” you emphasize, hoping your advice trumps Eddie’s little half-time pep talk.
“I will!” Eliza happily declares before following Miss Riley over to the cubbies.
Eddie looks back and forth from her to you. “That’s it?” he asks. “That’s all we get?”
“What did you want?” you ask as you slip your hand into your husband’s. “Want her to cry and beg you to take her back home?”
“Well, no.” At your disbelieving eyebrow raise Eddie shrugs and amends his statement. “Not entirely.”
“We got hugs and goodbyes,” you point out. “Ryan barely acknowledged us, and Luke gave you a Wet Willy. I think we should cut our losses.”
“I know,” Eddie says, letting out a defeated sigh.
You gently tug him in the direction of the door to exit. “She’ll be fine,” you reassure him with a whisper. “And she’ll be so excited to tell you all about it later.”
Eddie nods, and just as the two of you are about to walk out the door, something rams into Eddie’s legs. He looks down to see Eliza grinning up at him, little arms wrapped around his knees.
“What’s up, Sweet Pea?” he asks, suddenly worried that something’s wrong. Was someone mean to her? Did she forget her lunch at home?
She jumps like a little jumping bean until she’s right in front of the two of you.
“I love you!”
Your heart swells and the pressure of tears is heavy behind your eyes. There’s no way you can look at Eddie because clocking his emotion will absolutely send you over the edge.
Eddie’s already tearing up though and has a bright smile on his face. “We love you too, Liza Bean,” he tells her. “So much.”
She giggles and you scoop her up in your arms. “We love you more than anything.”
You and Eddie press kisses to her cheeks at the same time, and Eddie blows a raspberry with his, making her giggle.
Once you set her down, Eliza blows you both a kiss before skipping over to a table where a few kids are drawing, already settling in.
Eddie wipes at his eyes as the two of you step out of the classroom and into the hall. “That’s what I wanted,” he admits with a tearful chuckle.
You wrap your arms around one of Eddie’s and lay your head on his shoulder. “You okay?” you ask him.
“No.” He sighs when you press a reassuring kiss against his shoulder. “I’m just trying to keep it together for your sake,” he says.
At his words, you pull away to look at him, eyebrows raised. “This was you holding it together?” you ask.
“Oh, this could’ve been way worse, babe.”
You chuckle as he slips his hand into yours, knowing that he’s likely telling the truth.
The two of you take one last look inside the classroom and see Eliza talking and laughing with a little girl and boy at her table.
“Come on,” you say, patting the back of Eddie’s hand with your free one.
With a reluctant sigh, Eddie starts to walk with you towards the exit.
“And I know Miss Riley is younger than me but don’t get any ideas.” You smirk and nudge his shoulder with your own, trying to joke around and cheer him up a bit.
Eddie puts his hands up in defense. “Hey, she’s a teacher. I only go for babysitters.”
The late summer morning is hot as you make the journey back to your car. Still the gentleman as always, Eddie opens your door for you.
“Man,” he shakes his head as you slip into the passenger’s seat. “I can’t believe my baby is in preschool.”
He closes your door and walks around to his side, giving you time to open your purse and pull out a small object, hiding it beneath your hands in your lap. He starts the car, though you’re fairly certain your heartbeat is louder than the engine.
“Well,” you start before clearing your throat. Eddie looks over at you and there’s suddenly a million butterflies not only in your stomach, but throughout your whole body. “She’s not going to be the baby for long…”
You hand Eddie the test, watching as his expression shifts from sadness to confusion to awe as he stares at the two pink lines.
“You’re pregnant?” The excitement in his voice rivals that of a kid on Christmas morning.
“I’m pregnant,” you confirm, grinning with your own excitement. The emotions that you've been trying to corral all day finally come out, relief and giddiness flowing through you as you tell your husband what you've been dying to amongst all the other chaos of the day.
Eddie lunges across the center console to wrap you up in his arms, letting the positive test drop into his lap. “Holy shit, princess.”
“I know,” you say with a giggle.
Eddie’s still in shock, grinning from ear to ear and rubs his hands over his face. “We’re gonna have another baby,” he says, just to hear it aloud.
“And just think,” you say, “you get to do this first day of preschool thing again.”
His nose wrinkles at that prospect. “Maybe I’ll just homeschool this one.”

part one: https://www.tumblr.com/erooca/724971592933834752/daycare
Tumblr media
ever since you met ellie, you started seeing her more around your campus. every once in a while, y’all would go study together or maybe grab a coffee, but she’s never invited you back to her dorm before, at least not until right now.
like the gentleman she is, she held the door open and you walked in, instantly getting hit with the scent of ellie. specifically a nice, light scent of tobacco vanilla, which felt very on point for the freckled girl.
her dorm was small, smaller than yours since she had one to herself, while you shared with roommates. all that was in here was a bed, a desk, a mini fridge, storage, and a door leading to a bathroom.
her back wall was filled with little sketches everywhere. you knew she liked to draw, but you had no idea it meant this much to her. you took in all the drawings, examining them one by one. you see sketches of horses, dinosaurs (no surprise there), sunsets and just a lot of landscapes in general, and you see a few of an older looking man. you assume it’s her father.
ellie is watching you nervously as you examine all her drawings. she was scared as shit that you were finally in her dorm, but she also had a tingling feeling in her heart because you were surrounded completely by her and only her at the moment. she could get used to this.
it had been two weeks since her first day at the daycare. for two whole weeks, her thoughts have been plagued by you. she was loving it. she loved spending a full eight hour shift with you. just to see you, she would even come in five or ten minutes early.
she wasn’t very secretive about her crush on you. she did a lot of things for you. if you went on break earlier than her, she’d pick you up something to eat and would forbid you from paying her back. she would also buy things you had mentioned you needed for the classroom. one time, she even brought you a candy bar since she noticed you weren’t as energetic as your usual self.
even after all these gracious gifts, you were oblivious. it drove ellie insane. she really didn’t want to have to confess it out loud to you. she was really hoping you’d just take the hint and ask her out yourself. ellie has a bit of a hard time with rejection and she can’t imagine pouring out her feelings to you just for you to tell her you didn’t feel the same about her.
“hey.. is this one of king’s drawings?” you said, pointing at a colorful and bright picture. it had two stick figures with a hell of a lot of scribbles.
“oh yeah, he said he drew it for me,” ellie smiled, reliving the memory. king had told her it was a drawing of her and him hanging out together. ellie asked if she could keep the drawing and of course king said yes.
“that’s so sweet,” you smiled brightly. you were so happy ellie already made a strong connection with one of the students. the best part about working with kids is seeing the way you influence them and make them better humans.
ellie nodded.
“so, did ya’ wanna order pizza and watch a movie?” ellie asked.
“that sounds like a perfect way to relax after a week of working.”
you guys settle onto ellie’s bed (since there’s no couch) watching a random movie on netflix waiting for the pizza.
it was a really good night. you wish you could spend every night like this.
the next monday, you were eagerly waiting for ellie to enter the classroom door. you were so excited to see her. you guys had such a great time on saturday, and you couldn’t wait to be in ellie’s presence again.
when the door opened, all the children screamed out ellie’s name, getting up to go give her a hug.
“ellie!! guess what my mom did this weekend!!” a blonde girl named charlie asked.
“i went to the park yesterday ellie!!” pippa told her.
“hey! hey! ellie!” another kid called for attention.
ellie laughed and listened to each of the kids one by one. it warmed your heart so much seeing your students gathered around ellie, telling her stories and giving her hugs. you felt like you could burst from the warmth that spread throughout your body.
when she was finished, she got up and locked eyes with you. she greeted you and that was when you noticed two starbucks cups in her hands. she sheepishly handed one of them out to you.
“ellie, you shouldn’t have done this,” you said, taking the cup from her even though it contradicted your words.
“gotta get a coffee for my favorite coworker,” her lips rose into a half smile.
you brought the drink up to your lips and sipped. you’ve had starbucks countless times, but this one tasted different. it tasted amazing and you know it’s because it was ellie who bought it for her. you thanked her.
the day continued on as usual. while you were outside, you watched as the kids ganged up on ellie to chase her and take her to “jail”. you watched her run, taking the game a little too seriously. it made you think how she’d probably survive a zombie apocalypse, if it ever happened.
she easily got cornered and king tugged her hand, leading her to the fence. some of the other kids did a locking motion, acting as though ellie was chained to the fence.
“don’t get out!!!” one of the boys, william, said.
you made your way over, innocently.
“how’s jail?” you ask.
“oh, ha ha,” she said sarcastically, then her eyes lit up, as if she had a great idea, “hey.. unlock me!” she said, glancing at her hands.
“you do realize you aren’t actually locked in, right?” you ask, laughing.
ellie scoffs. you follow through with her request anyway, motioning an unlocking gesture. then ellie bolted.
“HEY! they let ellie out! get both of them!” one of the kids yelled.
now both of you were running for your lives from a big group of three year olds.
once you guys came inside, you had lunch, and then nap time. when the kids woke up, you opted to do floor toys and just keep them all on the colorful alphabet rug.
you sat with the children, watching them build with the duplo legos. they were each having you look at what they made. you praised them each time, suggesting they add a different colored block or make it taller. soon, you felt a bit tired so you laid down onto the carpet.
this turned out to be a bad idea when half of your students rolled on top of you, leaving you no room to even move. all you could hear was the sounds of your three year olds giggling, as they tortured you.
you called out for help from ellie but was met with the response of laughter coming from her.
wow. your own friend. you thought up your revenge plan quickly, “everyone!!!” you shouted, catching their attentions, “go give ellie a kiss!!”
“what? no- no,” but it was too late. the kids ran up to her, giving her kisses on her arms and hands. a few even gave her a kiss on the cheek.
“payback,” you smirk at her, watching as she’s trying to control the kids now.
“oh you’re evil,” she responds, playfully narrowing her eyes at you.
the rest of the day went by fast, but this time ellie wasn’t leaving when you got down to less kids. maria had asked that you go through all the cleaning duties with her that are required for closing. you agreed, obviously excited to spend even more with her. you decided to wait until all the children were gone to start teaching it. it would allow you to give ellie your full focus.
all the kids were called to leave one by one and soon it was 6:00 and all the kids had went home. it was just ellie and you in the room. you could already feel the intense butterflies moving through you. god, your crush had gotten bad.
ignoring the feeling in your stomach that was so extreme it almost hurt, you showed ellie the closet.
“so we keep the vacuum and broom in here, and all of the cleaning chemicals. there’s bleach water, soapy water, floor spray, and a bathroom cleaner,” you explain to ellie.
you went inside to pull out the vacuum but with a mighty tug, the vacuum wouldn’t come loose. it was stuck in between the children’s mats. you said a naughty word but kept trying.
“here, let me help,” ellie said from outside the closet, stepping inside.
“wait! don’t let the door—“
click
“shut..”
“oh fuck. did i just lock us in here?” ellie asked, wide eyed as soon as she heard the click of the lock.
“uhh.. yeah. you did. it’s alright, i’m sure someone will find us soon,” you said, hopeful.
the closet wasn’t super tight, but it definitely wasn’t spacious. you were a little too close to ellie for comfort. you could already feel your heart racing. someone better find you guys soon, or you might have a heart attack.
“i’m gonna see if maybe i can like.. jam the door open,” you said, trying to switch spots with ellie so you were closer to the door. you couldn’t ignore the way your skin touched hers in an effort to get across.
you started wiggling the handle with all your might, trying to move it up, down, and side to side. it wasn’t budging.
“try moving it like this,” ellie had found her way right behind you. she rested her hand on the door handle where yours was. your pinkies overlapped and ellie started jiggling the handle too.
you looked to your side and noticed she had her other hand resting on the door, for support, to the right of your head. she was basically leaning over you, trapping you within her arms.
“yeah we’re not getting out of this any time soon,” ellie states, letting her hand rest on the door knob.
you finally turned around to face her and it both hit you how close you both had gotten. your back was against the door and she was right in front of you, only maybe a foot away.
ellie felt a dust of pink wash over her cheeks as she realized how close she was to you. she hadn’t meant to position you like this, but she wasn’t complaining.
ellie was keeping her eyes locked with yours and neither of you guys made an attempt to move. you could hear as her breath was moving more rigid.
it was becoming too much for you, and you glanced down, forcing your head to look at the ground. you tried to relax your heart that seemed as though it was clawing out of your chest.
a soft hand rose to the bottom of your chin, and pulled it upwards, forcing you to look back at ellie.
“don’t.” ellie whispered, not taking her eyes off of you.
you don’t think you’ve ever desired someone as much as you desired ellie right now. you were so close to grabbing her face, giving her as many kisses as she deserved, but instead you stood still, frozen under ellie’s dominant position.
ellie took the hand from your chin and moved it to gently tuck a wisp of hair behind your ear, “wanna see your pretty face…” she let her hand rest on her cheek.
your whole face turned a blushy color at her words. how was this girl you met only a few weeks ago making you sink into a puddle?
“ellie..” you breathed out, scanning her face, trying to decipher any thought she might have. from up this close, you could see how irregular her pattern of freckles were. how they were different shades of the same color. you could count them all from this position, and you happily would.
“can i please kiss you?” ellie asked, in almost a puppy dog voice.
you didn’t trust yourself with your voice right now (hell, you’d probably accidentally propose to her), so you gave a sweet nod.
she took a step closer to you, bodies mere inches from colliding, she watched your eyes and glanced to your lips.
“are you sure?” she asked, wanting to confirm that this is genuinely what you wanted. her eyes went back up to yours and she searched them.
instead of answering, you moved forward closing the gap. your soft lips met with her chapped ones. ellie made a noise of surprise at your sudden movement, but easily got comfortable, kissing you back.
she pulled back after a moment, but stayed close to your face.
“holy fuck,” she breathed out, trying to regain any sense of herself she had previously.
before you had a chance to say anything, she reconnected her lips with yours. she placed her hands on your hips, pulling you in closer. you crossed your hands around her neck. you don’t ever think you’ve felt this kind of rush before. all you knew was that you wanted ellie closer. you wanted to be surrounded by her completely. now that you’ve kissed her once, you don’t think you’ll ever be able to stop kissing her.
she slowly started kissing along your jawline, and then trailing her lips down your neck. you giggling at the sensation from the way it tickled your skin.
ellie liked the way your throat felt under her mouth. she continued to leave soft kisses all on you. you could feel your hunger for her grow stronger and stronger.
just then the door swung open, leaving you to fall on the ground, and ellie tumbling over you. you both groaned in pain.
maria stood in front of you two’s lying bodies. she cleared her throat awkwardly. it was obvious she saw what you guys were doing before you fell.
“i’m not gonna talk about what i just saw, but how many times have i told you not to let that door shut??” maria said, only acting angry to wash away the awkward feeling of walking in on her (basically) niece making out with one of her best workers.
“it was my fault, maria. i let the door close,” ellie said, taking the blame. she stood up from the ground, and then held out a hand to you. you gladly took it and she pulled you up.
maria sighed in frustration, “don’t let it happen again, and get this room clean. we lock up in 15 minutes.”
as soon as she leaves the room, you erupt in giggles, thinking of how shocked maria’s face was. ellie joined your laughter, just now realizing how silly the situation had become.
knowing there wasn’t any time left to dilly-dally, you two sped cleaned the room.
you hoped the next couple days would be full of more closet kisses, more of those loving looks ellie had given you today, or even wishful touches throughout the hours.
unknown to your knowledge, ellie was planning on giving you every single one of those for the rest of her life.

“My eyelids are heavy, but my thoughts are heavier.” - Unknown
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You couldn't begin to express how grateful the late nights were less late now that the club was out of guns and drugs. The only downside was that Jax and the rest of the Sons were now just mechanics, they had cars to fix and taxes to file, not meeting deadlines meant parts didn't get bought and paychecks weren't written.
Anxiety still lingered when Jax was away at night, a hold off from the worry that the next phone call would deliver the worst news one could get. Tonight was one of those nights, even though you knew Jax was safe, your brain wouldn't quiet.
The sound of a door opening drew you from your thoughts, "What are you still doing up? It's almost one."
You shrugged, "The usual. I can't sleep when your side of the bed is cold. Your dinner is in the microwave."
Jax gave you a soft smile, "Lucky me because I'm starving. Sit with me while I eat?"
You nodded, "That's my plan." Jax hurried to the kitchen and warmed his dinner before sitting next to you at the dining table, "Did you get all your work done?"
"You bet, and I've got the whole weekend off so we can sleep in." You could smell the faint hint of oil on his clothes.
"That's great news, you know how much I love our lazy mornings." If you were lucky, Abel would be there too, between you and Jax.
"You and me both darlin. How was work?" He must have been hungry, half the food was already gone.
"The usual." You yawned and Jax reached across the table to hold your hand, "I'm sorry, I guess I was just waiting for you to get home."
Jax shook his head, "I'm almost done here. I'll hop into the shower then I'll be all yours."
You sighed, "That sounds perfect."
"How did Abel go at daycare today?" Jax loved all the pictures Abel drew for him, his locker, his office and his workstation were full of them.
You smiled, "He had lots of fun today, they got a new water table and he went wild. I had to throw his tiny little shoes in the wash, that's how much fun he had."
Jax chuckled, "I'll pick him up on Monday, I can't have you having all the fun darlin."
"Sure, he loves it when you go and get him." You went to take Jax's empty plate from him, but he yanked it away.
"I'll do that darlin." He rushed it to the sink before drying it and putting it away. Once that was done and he had wiped over the kitchen one last time, he walked back over to you and stretched out his hand, "Shall we?"
You nodded and took his hand, "We shall."
The trip to the bedroom was quick, and then Jax was stripping off and hopping into the shower, "You wanna get ready for bed darlin?"
You sighed, "I guess I better try and keep a routine, brushing my teeth and washing my face again won't hurt."
Steam filled the room as Jax washed the day away and smirked when he caught you staring at him through the shower glass, "See something you like darlin?"
You nodded, "You know I do Teller."
The shower flicked off and he stepped out, wrapping the towel around his waist before stopping by the kiss you on the cheek on his way to the bedroom to get dressed.
With his comfortable grey sweatpants on, he headed to the bed and flicked the heated blanket on your side before fluffing your pillow and peeling back the covers, "Hop in darlin."
You took your robe off and placed it on the chair, leaving you in just one of Jax's T-Shirts and a pair of panties, then climbed into bed with a sigh, "It's so much better with you here. Maybe we should get a cat so when you're not here, I'm not alone in bed."
Jax smiled, "I like that idea, we've got the room and it will be good for Abel to have a pet."
You reached over to the bedside table and picked up the bottle of the lavender lotion but before you could do anything, Jax took it from you, "Let me?"
You nodded, "I'd like that."
He started with your arms, rubbing the smooth cream in with broad, firm strokes, "What do we need for a cat? Food, water fountains, a few litter trays and toys. Hell, with Happy's help, we can have one by Monday."
He pinched your shirt and you pulled it over your head so he could do your shoulders next, "We need a bit more time than that. The kitty should have a catio, that will keep you busy over a few weekends and once that's build and the cat can enjoy the outdoors without killing anything we can get the kitty."
The corner of Jax's mouth ticked up as he moved to your chest and a thought came over him, "We can tell Abel can't we? He'll want to help."
Your eye grew heavy as you spun and his hands moved over your back, "Sure we can tell Abel. He'll want to name the kitten and he should come when we pick. Not that it means anything, the cat will pick us."
You returned to facing him and Jax moved to your legs, rubbing the ache out of your claves, "You've already said you'll let the cat on the bed so I only have one rule, he or she has to stay away from my kutte."
You chuckled, "You and I both know that's not going to happen, cats do what cats want."
Jax sighed and placed the bottle back in its spot before picking your book up, "I guess so. How are you feeling now darlin?"
You smiled, "Great, I'm ready to call it a night." You slid all the way into bed and placed your head on the pillow, "Will you read to me, I love the sound of your voice."
Jax looked over you fondly, "Of course, darlin, that was my plan when I picked up your book." You had been reading it to him for days, a sweet tale of a little robot in search of life on Mars who made friends with an alien.
"Rusty lifted his little arm and ticked as he handed the apple slice to his friend, 'Apples are one of human's favourite fruits, you should try some.' The alien took the slice from him with a squeak and ate it in one bite, then gave another squeak of approval at the sweet taste."
You snuggled closer to Jax and he wrapped his arm around your body, "The Alien squeaked again, then waved its arms before pointing to itself and then to Rusty. The series of squeaks that followed sounded like the robot's name and then another which must have been its own."
Your eyes felt so heavy as Jax continued, "It made sense when Rusty heard it for a second time, 'Your name is Eldredth? Tell me Eldredth, have you ever had chocolate? It is the best of the human's treats."
Jax smiled as he felt your chest rise and fall softly under his arm. He put the book and laid down next to you, pressing a kiss to your forehead and pulling the blanket up to your neck, "Good night Darlin, I love you."

Santa, Dreams, Wishes, and Presents in Buddy Daddies - SPOILERS!!
The way Santa, wishes, and dreams are presented in this series are quite interesting too. Miri never wishes for material items.
Tumblr media
In Ep. 1, she asks Santa to meet her Papa, in Ep. 11 she asks Santa for her Papas to finish their work soon and be at the Christmas Party.
Tumblr media
Neither Kazuki nor Rei had normal childhoods, so they never believed in Santa, but Miri did. Their dream to protect that is so sweet. Taking down Ryo, leaving the Org, and even Rei wearing the Santa outfit...it's all necessary for that dream to stay a reality for them.
Tumblr media
It's interesting how Santa almost works like some kind of higher power in the series, with the way Miri thanks him after she hugs Kazuki and Rei.
Tumblr media
And, I guess, in the eyes of children, Santa kinda is, right? An all magical being that gives you presents and wishes.
But, I can also easily see how this could morph into an issue when Miri gets older, specifically in her teen years that we see her entering in the Daughter Daddies part of the show.
We see Kazuki kind of fumbling and getting into a mess with his lies to Miri when they dropped her off at the daycare. Rei takes note of this as well, and is able to reel in the situation like he usually does with Kazuki.
Tumblr media
Rei sidesteps the issue as well, but he does provide Miri with a goal or something she can actively do for her mother, to keep her mind of of the fact that her mother wasn’t there (in person).
Tumblr media
During the Daughter Daddies part of Episode 12, we see that Miri knows her mother is dead, since she has her picture of her and talks to it (similar in a way to Tohru Honda from Fruits Basket, but likely not to the same extent).
Tumblr media
Kazuki does also mention doing “honest work” now with the diner, but that is a vague sentence. Miri is 14 years old now, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they told her that her mother died from cancer and that Kazuki used make money through gambling or something.
Tumblr media
Partial truths.
Raising a teen, especially a high school student, where the mood and atmosphere is different from a junior high school, is so vastly different from raising a toddler. There are different challenges that come with that. Handling hard truths and difficult topics, conversations, and the harshness of reality tends to be key aspects of this time period. Lots realizations about parents and coming to terms with things like that.
So, if Kazuki and Rei did keep the truth about Misaki’s death, their past jobs, and other such related things from Miri in order to preserve her “normal childhood,” then I can see that becoming a topic that could be explored in a potential season 2 or OVA series/episode. Kazuki and Rei struggling to approach the topic with Miri, Miri’s struggle to comprehend and understand it all, maybe even a desire on her part to meet her grandparents, learn more about Misaki, and etc.
There is so much potential there! And that’s just talking about potential dramatic stuff. There is also the more comedic every day stuff (their diner), Miri’s school life, and less intense aspects of raising a teen daughter, especially for two guys. There is a lot of room to explore.
And, of course, if those things never do get explored in an OVA, movie, or Season 2, then at least I know there will be fanfics about this stuff...There probably already are, lol.

Jee-Yuns' Playtime
Jee-Yun centric cause she needs love! She's adorable😭, also I'm basing her personality off Lily from Modern Family and the stories of her going to daycare/pre-school and meeting kids whilst getting into mischief. No coherent storyline, just funny tidbits I think would happen when she ultimately goes to school.
Tumblr media
After Jee-Yun turned four, Maddie and Chim decided she was ready for preschool(Hen convinced them too). The first few days had been great. The teachers and caretakers were super helpful and reported that she was on her best behavior. Wouldn't fuss when told no and wouldn't throw a tantrum when naptime was supposed to happen.
Everything was great. Till it wasn't. Which, okay, Maddie and Chim were dramatic, but to be fair they didn't expect her to be an imp this early. At least in front of others.
"She what?"
"She put a kid in time out." Mrs.Niamh answered smiling humorously.
"How?/Why?" The Buckley-Han parents wondered. Smiling brighter, trying not to laugh, Mrs.Niamh replied.
"He tried putting glitter on the floor and she caught him. Walked opposite of the room, yanked the glitter bottle out of his hands, and said, 'You'll get it back when you stop trying to sparkle the room! Go in the book corner!'." Makes sense. Jee-Yun hated glitter. It offended her to the core. One time Maddie tried putting some glitter in her fair for a small party with the firehouse crew and Jee ran to the garden hose and sprayed the glitter out of her hair.
Other parents would be mad, obviously, but Maddie couldn't help but be impressed that she efficiently undid her tight hair and didn't get her clothes wet. Gotta recognize the tenacity I guess.
-------------------------------------------
"Mason was crying today."
"Oh no, how come?"
"Someone put sand in his hair." The dead tone in her voice was surprisingly enjoyable for the adults. Especially with something random or just outright sad. She was like Lily from Modern Family. Except, not a little bitch. No shade to her though, she's iconic.
"Awh, poor Mason. Did you help him get it out?" The silence was the only answer Maddie received. Raising a brow, Maddie turned slightly to her kid in the living room. Who was sitting on the floor drawing random things on the coffee table. "Jee?"
"I might have, been the one to put it in his hair." Not looking up but slowly coloring the mini poodle she drew. Pursing her lips, Maddie huffed through her nose trying not to break. She needed to set an example.
"Oh. Why?"
"He was in the way." Maddie has a few weaknesses. This was one of them.
-------------------------------------------
Dropping off Jee-Yun and Nia along with the boys at Athena and Bobby's was an idea. Whether it was a good idea was still up to debate between Chim and Buck. Anyway, Christmas was three weeks away and Athena liked to decorate early so they wouldn't stress about it later. So she got Harry, Christopher, Denny, and the girls to help out.
While the Denny worked on the garlands, Chris and Harry helped the girls put the ornaments on the lower part of the tree. Athena was working on the taller bits. Nia was being organized, moving some around if it didn't look proportional in her brain. Jee-Yun on the other hand couldn't care less for symmetry.
Looking down Athena laughed at the scene beneath her. Chris was handing Jee ornaments while she placed them where she wanted. And what she wanted was 9 ornaments on the same branch. Taking a quick picture, Athena sent it to the family group chat and was bombarded with 'awes'.
-------------------------------------------
During Spring the kids were able to go outside and enjoy nature in the backyard of their daycare. Jee-Yun was playing with ladybugs she found in the grass in the corner while the other kids were running around near the jungle gym and swings.
When she felt something hit her head, she rubbed the top of it and looked around. A branch had fallen from the tree in front of her. Looking up at it, Jee-Yun wondered what it would be like to be that high up. So she set out to find out.
Gripping the crevices of the tree as best she could she climbed up without letting any of her teachers notice. Once up to the top she looked around and saw the city buildings in the distance. Yawning, she realized she was tired and leaned backward on the tree closing her eyes. A small nap couldn't hurt, right?
It could be if your dad was a firefighter and your mom was a first responder. When the teacher noticed that the girl with purple shoes wasn't in her favorite corner of the classroom, she immediately informed someone. And that someone called 911. And the person who answered was May.
Who glanced over at Maddie enjoying her lunch peacefully. Yeah no, keep quiet for now till they get someone on it. And that they did, the 118 that is. Chim getting shot was less stressful than this. He was the one who convinced Maddie to leave his little girl at the daycare to relieve the stress on them and the team.
"Chim you gotta focus or you're staying near the truck," Bobby said firmly despite his worries building.
When arriving parents were already picking up their kids. Ignoring the children awing them, they walked over to the teacher who initially reported the missing girl.
"I only noticed till the last 30 minutes, how she slipped my view I don't know. She's always very outspoken!"
This was true. Jee-Yun was a force of nature that the world wasn't ready for.
"The last time I saw her was outside in the back near the jungle gym. I got distracted with other students." Chim didn't blame her, he didn't, but his dad mode was kicking up and he didn't want to be near her right now. Instead, he veered off with Ravi following him to look around the fence to ensure none of it was clipped or open.
As the others called out, Hen looked up at the rustle in the leaves. Getting directly underneath she looked up and saw little feet dangling.
"Jee!" She yelled out multiple times gathering the attention of her team.
"No sarang, ireona!" Chim yelled in Korean waking up the girl successfully. Rubbing her eyes, she looked down and saw her family beneath her.
"Hi, Daddy!"
Breathing out a sigh of relief, the team got the ladder and got her down.
"Wanna explain why you gave your teacher a heart attack by climbing a tree?"
"I wanted to know what it would be like to be a branch. And I was sleepy."
Laughing at her explanation, the teacher thanked them, farewelled the 2/3 Buckley-Han duo, and left. Putting Jee-Yun in the fire truck was a fun car ride back to the station.
When they told the story to Maddie back home, they all laughed while watching Turning Red. Chim couldn't help but compare the girl in overalls to his passionate and blunt daughter.

CHAPTER 5
You don’t see Joel for two weeks after that. Not that you have been actively avoiding him or anything, but both your dad and Joel have been working like dogs so they haven’t planned a get together. Sarah is over most days though, just to hangout while she’s out of school for the summer. You’re not technically ‘babysitting’ her, you were never asked to, more so just spending time together. She keeps saying she is too old for a babysitter. You don’t think she is too old for one, but she is very mature for her age. I guess that’s why Joel lets her be in the house alone while he’s at work. It’s one day in the middle of June when it hits you. You were binge watching ‘Degrassi’ with Sarah at your house when you started to feel a knot in your stomach. You know this feeling all too well, but it hasn’t paid you a visit in a long while. When you were a teenager you began struggling with depression. It started to get better a couple years ago, but it still hits you sometimes. You think about why you’re feeling this way, if there is a reason. Then, you remember the date: June 17th. You knew there was something off about today, it’s the day your mother passed away 19 years ago. Gosh, that seems so long ago. It hurts even more not knowing entirely what you’re missing, you were only 3 when she passed.
You turn toward Sarah, “Hey, Bear, I’m not feeling too good. You think we can postpone this to another day?”
“Sure. Are you okay?” She asks.
“Yeah, I’m fine. Just a stomach bug.”
“Okay, feel better!”
Sarah gets up to go back home. Right after she leaves you turn the tv off and go upstairs. There’s a hole in your chest today, and you feel the need to desperately fill it. You take a shoe box out from under your bed that has mementos of her. You open to find her old hair tie, a few photos of you and her together, and her old necklace. Not much, but it’s the best you could do considering you were a toddler when she died. It was sudden, her death. A car accident on her way home from work. Your dad told you that you were at daycare, she was supposed to pick you up on her way home. You wished you had known that morning that you would never see her again, you would’ve given her a million hugs and kisses and said goodbye. You take out the pictures and lay on your bed. You look at them for a minute before holding them to your chest and beginning to cry.
You’re not sure how long you stayed in bed, crying, trying desperately to remember her. But it felt like forever. ‘I wish my dad were here’, you think. He always knows how to make you feel better. But he’s at work and you don’t know when he’ll get back. You pick up your phone and dial his number. The phone rings.
“Hello?” Your dad answers.
“Hey, dad. I’m, uh, I’m having a really hard time today.” You say sniffling through the phone.
“I know, hun. Me too. I miss her.”
You don’t even have to say why you’re having a hard time, he knows what today is. Maybe he didn’t mention it hoping you wouldn’t notice.
“When will you be home?” You ask.
“I don’t know, maybe around 8. I’m trying to get out of here as quickly as possible.”
You and your dad would always spend this day together every year, I guess with his new job he wasn’t able to get the day off.
“Okay.” You say softly.
“It’s okay, honey. Take deep breaths, drink water and cuddle with Obie until I get home. Call me again if you need me.”
“I love you, dad.”
“I love you too.”
You both hang up the phone.
You really did try what your dad suggested. The only thing that helped was cuddling with Obie. But he kept getting too hot cuddling and would jump off the bed. You cry yourself to sleep at some point and dream of her. You love your dreams, they always seem so vivid and real. You see your mom standing in front of you smiling. She reaches her hand to your face and touches your cheek, it’s almost like she’s actually touching you.
You jolt awake and realize that you actually do feel something on your cheek. You turn your head to see Joel a few inches away from you sitting on the edge of your bed, taking away his hand. He must’ve swiped away a tear with one of his thumbs while you were sleeping. You look around, it’s dark except for the dim light in your room. You have no idea what time it is.
“Joel? Why are you here?” You sit up in your bed.
“Your dad asked me to check on you, he’s stuck at work for about another hour.” He responds in a low voice. You’ve never heard him speak so softly.
You look around puzzled, “How did you get in?”
“He told me where the hide-a-key was.”
“Oh.” You respond. As you’re both just sitting on the bed, silence fills your ears. You’re not sure what to say. You’re not sure if he wants you to say anything.
He looks down at the pictures next to you on your bed, the pictures of your mom and you as a baby. He looks back up at you and pauses.
“I knew her, you know.” He says.
“Really?” You ask intently. Your dad must have told him what today was.
“Yeah, I met her when your dad and I were still in college. Your dad called me up one day and told me that I just have to meet this girl he’s been seeing. He told me he was going to marry her someday. I met her that night and, gosh, they were so in love. I knew after that he was going to. Marry her, I mean.” He kept his voice soft and comforting. You’ve never seen this side of Joel before.
“What was she like?” You ask, wanting to know more about her personality.
“Very outgoing, happy, and was super funny. She could even make me laugh.” He says smiling.
You chuckle at his description of her. A tear starts to roll down your cheek, you wish you had gotten to see her like this.
“Everyone liked her, no matter what.” He continues.
He pauses. “You two are similar in that way.”
You scoff. “Trust me, not everyone likes me. Not even you.”
“What do you mean?” He asks, cocking his head to the side.
“You hate me. It’s obvious.”
“I could never hate you.”
You both sit and look at each other for a second. You’re a bit confused, how he could act a certain way toward you then say this. It’s like he forgot to put on his protective mask or something.
You hesitate. “Can I ask you a question?”
He nods his head. “Sure.”
You hesitate again. “The, uh… picture of me…. in your wallet. Why do you have it?”
You hope to god you don’t regret asking this question. This could get very awkward.
“What picture?” He asks.
“The one in the back of your wallet, me on my graduation day.” You quickly clarify, “I wasn’t snooping, well maybe a bit… but Sarah asked me to get your bank card so we could order a pizza.”
He looks down at the floor for a moment before turning back to you.
“Your, uh, dad sent me it in the mail. He said he was so proud of you. I don’t know, you just looked so…” he looks to the side of you, trying to find the words.
“Beautiful, happy. I knew I wanted it to be with me wherever I go.” He meets your gaze.
“Do you… ever look at it?” You ask.
“Only when I’m having a bad day. Which seems to be a lot.” He answers half-smiling.
You sit there, hands in your lap, trying to process the words coming out of his mouth. Then you realize that he just called you beautiful, you didn’t even acknowledge it.
“Wait… you think I’m beautiful?” You ask looking back up at him.
“If I didn’t, I’d be an idiot.”
You decide, without giving it much thought, that you’re going to try to kiss him. You lean in slowly. When he notices you leaning in, he leans in response to meet your lips. It’s just a peck, at first. A small kiss. You attempt to pull away, as you’re getting no indication that he is enjoying this. When you’re about an inch from his face and he notices you pulling away, he puts his hand up to hold the side of your neck and pulls you back. It is then that he swipes your bottom lip with his tongue, as if to ask for permission. You allow him entrance and he explores your mouth with his tongue. It’s a gentle kiss at first, but then hunger starts to grow. He goes even deeper in your mouth, and bits your lip softly. You whimper quietly in his mouth in response. You want more. And you want it now. As he’s still kissing you, you reach your hand to place it on his knee. When he does not protest and continues exploring your mouth, you slowly move your hand higher and higher up his thigh. Right when you get to the bulge in his jeans, he pulls his mouth away abruptly.
“I have to go.” He says breathing heavily.
“What, why?” You pull your hand away.
He doesn’t answer, he just stands up and begins walking to your bedroom door.
“Joel!” You call out his name. He again does not answer and he slams the door behind him. You then hear him close the front door.
You sit there, confused and wanting more.

OKAY SO I'VE BEEN THINKING
What's wrong with the organization asking for information about Kazuki and Miri?
I mean Rei's father already knows that they live together (if he saw that picture then he might have guessed that Miri lives with Kazuki and Rei lives with him so Rei lives with Miri too right?) and it's not like Kazuki has some dark secrets either.
As we know Rei's father ordered to kill Rei's mentor because they had evidence that he had feelings for his girlfriend (they were holding hands, he showed affection in public places)
Tumblr media
(I also believe that Yuzuko's death was not accidental) In Kazuki's case it took them at least 1 year to find proofs that he cared about her and only then they got rid of her.
This means they can't just kill whoever they want, they need to be sure that this person might put in danger loyalty of a member of organization.
Taking all of this into account, i have a theory about what can happen in the next episode.
Kyutaro would inform Rei about the picture and tell him something like "don't panic they have nothing on you they don't know whether you guys care about each other or not and they won't hurt Kazuki or Miri if there's no evidence that you care about them"
(here you might have a question "But what about Kazuki? They can see that he cares about Miri!" Well yes but I think Rei's father (who wanted info on Kazuki and Miri in the first place) more worried about Rei and his bond with them and how it can affect him so his (Rei's father's) number one priority would be finding out if Rei have attachment to them. It's not like he ignore Kazuki's love for Miri, it's just not his priority right now)
And so I think Rei would have to act cold and emotionless around them especially in public places and guess what? It's sports day!
Tumblr media
Imagine this, Rei have to attend Miri's competition at the daycare, because he doesn't want to upset her, but he can't cheer for her or show any kind of emotions, because he understands there's possibility that he's being watched.
At this point it sounds more like fanfic but also imagine this, Kazuki's like "Rei, why aren't you cheering for Miri? I know you're not that emotional but you're acting too cold, even for yourself. I thought you care about us!" or something idk and Rei just can't tell him the reasons. So much angst potential.

(part 1 of 2)
🔙 Chapter beginning ⬅ Previous chapter • Next part ➡ 📝 About the story and characters
The whole chapter (with bigger pictures!) can be found on Blogger already ;) Check the Blogger post for a short recap too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Parenting is finally getting easier. The first six months were challenging, every day felt a thousand hours long. Now she's not crying that much and we can actually go to places and…"
Tumblr media
River knew close to nothing about parenting but patiently listened to Sara's venting. She believed she owed her that after rejecting her as a romantic partner — even though River had said they would have not future together.
Tumblr media
They had gone for a walk a few times and it had started to become a weekly routine.   "And before you say I should ask for help," Sara said, "I have asked and Kody has helped a lot but ultimately, I'm alone. With Bayu of course, but you know what I mean."
Tumblr media
"I… guess," River said. Sara seemed ready to change subjects so River asked: "What are your plans about school?"   "I'll go back. I'm still not 100% certain if dentistry is my thing but I have no other ideas, so… Not until next year, though. I want Maya to be a little older before daycare."
Tumblr media
"Understandable," River said even though she knew nothing about babies in daycare.   Sara smirked. "Nice of you to listen to me babbling about parenting. I know it can't be your favourite subject but it sure is nice to vent. Maya isn't much of a conversational partner yet. Thank you."
Tumblr media
"Hey I'm always interested in listening to my friends! Whatever the subject!"   "In that case… I do have another thing on my mind."
Tumblr media
Sara dug her phone out and opened the browser.   "Check this out," she said after navigating to a certain news site. "Some theatre critic has visited The Bats's rehearsal."
Tumblr media
River quickly scanned the article to find the worrying part. For two long paragraphs, the critic had wondered if hiring Harrison Stacks to direct the musical was a risk worth taking. Some of his work had been astounding flops. This was neither new nor worrisome for River; her father's reputation as a wild card was well-known. It was the next paragraph about the actors that had made Sara uneasy.
Tumblr media
The leading actors (Bayu Wardhana and Jaylah Ortega) have impeccable chemistry, the article read. Watching them embrace each other and sing about love, I felt I was interrupting an actual couple getting ready for bed — if you know what I mean. It was so intense it was almost umcomfortable... I felt warm and fuzzy inside — and I don't mean in my heart! If the whole musical is like this, I'm going to see it multiple times!
Tumblr media
"Hmmmm… Have you asked him about this?"   "He says it's just a job. That Jaylah is just a colleague and that I should be proud of him being so good at his job. I mean, of course I am. And I know he is truly charming and charismatic, I wouldn't be here pushing a pram if he wasn't…" Sara sighed. "But… I don't know…"
Tumblr media
River hadn't realised Sara cared about Bayu so much. She had thought they had only an arrangement to give Maya a stable family, not a true romantic relationship. Maybe that had been the case at the beginning but Sara was quick to fall in love. River wondered if Bayu was on the same page.
Tumblr media
River wasn't sure of what to say. Her sister Brook was working in the production as the head makeup designer. When asked about the musical, Brook had fussed about how sweet Bayu was, always giving compliments, and how he was liked by everyone. And he was cute for someone so short (Brook's words!). River wasn't going to repeat her report.   "Brook works on the production, remember? She would tell me if there's anything to know. She couldn't resist spilling the beans."
Tumblr media
Sara sighed again. "I must have been overreacting. I'll try to focus on other things."   River knew how hard it was to not think about something bothersome. In that morning, her hands had felt… different. Like she couldn't fully control them. She shuddered.
Tumblr media
Sara's phone vibrated demandingly. "Ugh, it's mom. She has tried to call me many times already, I'll need to take this."
Tumblr media
And immediately, Little Maya was awake. She wasn't happy about it. "Wah! Wah! WAAAAAAH!"   Sara let out a hopeless sigh. "Could you hold her? This shouldn't take long."
Tumblr media
River gulped. Her hands did still feel shaky but it wasn't something she felt like sharing. "I… I think I might have a cold coming. I shouldn't touch her…"   Sara looked her suspiciously and River coughed. "Fine. Can you at least rock the pram and talk to her?"   "…Sure."
Tumblr media
"Yes, mom? You indeed hear Maya crying. No, a friend is looking after her. Well, she's trying her best."   Sara walked further and River couldn't hear her over Maya's cries.
Tumblr media
"There there, little one, look how beautiful and blue the sky is."   But Maya wasn't interested in watching the sky.
Tumblr media
"Hey now, I'll buy you ice cream," River tried and Maya's crying toned down a bit. "When you'll get older, of course. Your mum wouldn't probably appreciate me getting you ice cream now... Anyway, in the future, you'll get the biggest sundae, any flavour you want, with whipped cream, sprinkles, chocolate sauce... A shiny tiny umbrella on it..."
Tumblr media
She came up with a dozen more toppings and Maya fell asleep again.   "Good one, River, no child can resist ice cream," River whispered to herself. "How does Sara do this all day every day? Mothers are really something."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Notes: I think I have wondered which language Kody and Sara talk with their mom in some previous chapter's notes but I can't remember to what conclusion I came (I should write stuff like this down...). Maybe Sim!Japanese because even though she was born in Sulani, she sort of detests the place. Thinks it's not classy enough for her 🙄

The timeskip is IMMENSE! I was expecting the next chapter to take place in perhaps Feb/March, but as some other people have pointed out, Fathers' Day is celebrated in June in Japan. That's wild!
(Also, doesn't this mean that Miri should be out of daycare and starting her formal education?)
On the one hand, skipping 6 months makes a lot of sense: we get the sense that the Organisation is very big and very powerful, so it would be ridiculous if the Buddies Who Were Formerly Daddies were able to take it out overnight — they'd need time to plan and get their ducks in a row (hurhur). I think Kyuu-chan is also going to be instrumental in taking out the Organisation; he does carry a lot of cards, after all.
That's... assuming that Rei is planning a long game and looking to take the Organisation down. In Episode 8, he asked Suwa Shigeki to give him time. And so, Rei's taken nearly a year to wrap up loose ends — but what are those loose ends now that Miri is out of the picture? Are Rei and Kazuki still in the swanky pad at the start of Episode 11... or have they already moved out?
My guess is that Rei is given the order to kill Kazuki. Obviously, Rei isn't going to be out to kill Kazuki — but he will have to demonstrate that he's 'serious' about the new mission and so, I think he'll opt for shooting Kazuki in the shoulder. I think Ogino is too ruthless to leave Kazuki with a non-fatal wound.
As much as I love Rei's place, it is nice that the pair move out — ultimately, when they're reunited with Miri, they can make a fresh start in a new home that has no ties to the Organisation.
LET'S GOOO!!

Panic at the Pizzaplex!
After being freed from Vanny, Vanessa would rather try to avoid reminders of the whole experience. However, a chance encounter late one night at the Pizzaplex will make that difficult.
Trying something new here. This story is based on “Idea 10″ from @halogenrobotics ‘s list of ideas.
Anyways, here it is. It’s a bit long for a Tumblr post, so most of it is under the read more.
Edit: Made a slight change to the first paragraph.
Vanessa sighed as the doors to the Pizzaplex opened in front of her. It had only been a couple days since the events that had transpired there. All the animatronics were still being repaired in the maintenance room, which somehow made the empty building feel even emptier. She wasn’t looking forward to going back to a place that held such painful memories. She anxiously tugged at the sleeve of her uniform, the feeling of the heavy fabric against her skin becoming more and more uncomfortable with each passing moment. She paused just in front of the main doors, taking a deep breath. Just get in, get it over with, get out. Get in, get it over with, get out... She quickly straightened her posture and smoothed the wrinkles on her sleeve, then walked through the beckoning doors.
As soon as she entered the building, her senses were being assaulted by the atmosphere of the Pizzaplex. There were advertisements plastered on all the bright screens. Everything was colored in brilliant neon as far as the eye could see. The scent of new plastics and the lingering smell of dozens of different kinds of snack foods formed an odd and familiar amalgamation that filled the room. Music from half a dozen different stores poured into the main lobby, clashing with the music already playing over the main speakers and forming a cacophony of mismatched sounds and rhythms.
Vanessa closed her eyes and tried to focus on her breathing. Get it over with, get out. Get it over with, get out. She heard slow footsteps approaching behind her. She opened her eyes and turned back to look at Gregory, his face blank as he glanced around the lobby. He glanced at his Fazwatch and adjusted his backpack before looking up at Vanessa. After a moment or two, Vanessa shook her head and smiled at Gregory.
“Right,” she turned towards him, pulling a spare security card and some spare passes out of her pocket, “I guess I’ll just... let you go off and do your own thing then...” She handed him the card and passes, with just enough clearance to let him into places like one of the various arcades scattered about the building and some of the other attractions. She knew he could probably find a way into those places anyways, but it would be safer, and would end with less property damage, if she just gave him the clearance needed to enter.
“Yeah, I guess so...” They stared at each other for a few moments as the building began to still, with most of the shops now starting to close down for the night. After a few more awkward moments, Vanessa clicked her tongue and turned away from Gregory, starting to venture deeper into the Pizzaplex.
“Well, I should probably check in and get to work,” She turned to glance back at Gregory. “If you need anything, let me know and... uh... have fun.” She paused for a moment. “And please, try to stay out of trouble...” Gregory huffed and rolled his eyes at her before meandering further into the Pizzaplex. After he left, Vanessa turned back towards the main office and went over to check in.
The first half of Vanessa’s shift was fairly boring. She checked the stores in the lobby after they had closed, making sure everything was locked and accounted for and making sure no one was hiding in the back storerooms, then moved on to the shops and party rooms at the daycare and the theater, and finally proceeded on to the main atrium.
The atrium was bright and colorful, plastered floor to ceiling with ads and pictures of the animatronics, the star attractions of the Pizzaplex. Despite the vibrant atmosphere, the overwhelmingly familiar scenery put Vanessa on edge as she wandered the first floor. She took a deep breath. Get it over with, get out… She sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose.
“I can’t wait to get my old job back,” she muttered to herself. She slowly continued through the first floor of the atrium, occasionally bumping into a staffbot or two along the way. Although most of the major attractions had been shut down for the night, the area was still filled with an interesting mix of music and sound effects pouring into open space around her.
Vanessa quickly turned her head as she heard one of the doors behind her open, and out of the corner of her eye she saw something quietly dart into one of the side halls connecting the various attractions. She held her breath for a moment, contemplating what to do next. That wasn’t a staffbot… She took a step back, realizing that the only thing that it could have been was a person. She felt her heartbeat start pounding faster in her chest as she stared at the slowly closing door. Would she have to deal with a dangerous intruder? Would she have to follow this stranger into the dark hallways that wound like a maze through the entire Pizzaplex? Would she really have to do this all alone?
She tightly shut her eyes before taking a few deep breaths, trying to slow down her heartbeat. Get it over with… get out… She opened her eyes and hesitantly walked over to the door, pausing for a moment with her hand hovering over the door handle. If there is someone in here, might as well try and figure out what they’re doing here… I guess… She huffed anxiously before pulling open the door and quickly walking through.
The halls smelled musty and stagnant, the walls mostly dismal gray concrete. A few sections were plastered with colorful posters, all of them with the smiling faces of the animatronics, most captioned with some half-baked slogan or warning about workplace safety. She wandered through the halls, trying her best to keep her footsteps quiet, though she could hardly hear them over the sound of her heartbeat thumping in her ears. Get it over with… get it over with… She pulled at the hem of her sleeve anxiously, her breathing slow and deliberate as she tried to stay calm. She slowly turned the corner, and stopped dead in her tracks.
A little girl was standing at the other end of the hall, facing away from her. Her light pink sweater stood out in stark contrast to the dark gray walls. Her blonde pigtails bounced as she skipped over to one of the other posters on the wall, admiring all the bright colors and giggling at the characters on the posters. Behind her, she dragged a worn-looking Chica plush, covered in dust from the hallway floors. She continued to wander from poster to poster, completely unaware of Vanessa’s presence.
Vanessa stared wide-eyed at the child, her heartbeat pounding louder and louder in her ears as her surroundings narrowed, her focus fixed. She could feel a tightness in her chest as she slowly blinked, her heartbeat going faster and faster with each second. She blinked again, and when she opened her eyes, the world was tinted red. No… She looked down at herself, and immediately felt her entire body tense up. She was wearing a patchwork costume, the hand stitching and the pattern unmistakable. No no no no… She raised a shaking gloved hand up to her face, struggling to breathe. No… this… this isn’t possible… She felt her breathing getting heavier as she turned her hand over and over again. I-I got rid of it… I-I BURNED it… this isn’t possible! She brought her other hand into her view and felt her heart skip a beat when she saw the glinting metal of the blade she held in her hand.
Her focus snapped back in front of her when she heard muffled sobs in the shadows. The room was different from the hallway she had just been in. It was dark and smelled of iron and old, rotting cardboard. There were shelves on either side of her filled with boxes, so much so that the shelves sagged under their weight. And, backed into the corner of the room was the little girl in the pink sweater, her eyes red and tears streaming down her face. Vanessa’s heart broke when she looked at the little girl. She was clutching her arm, blood seeping between her fingers, and her Chica plush was on the ground in front of her, spattered with blood and slashed open, spilling its stuffing onto the floor.
Vanessa attempted to back away and drop the knife, trying to salvage the situation or at least avoid causing more harm, but nothing happened. She struggled and fought as much as she could, but her body didn't respond. Instead, against her will, she painfully took a step forward. No no no stop! A sickening, familiar cackle echoed in the room around her. She tried to fight against herself as she took another step forward, each movement agonizing as Vanny forced her to advance. Stop! She took another step, her head forcibly tilting to the side as she stared into the terrified child’s eyes. Stop! Please, stop! Vanny’s laughter filled the room, much louder than humanly possible as the echo was distorted in the hollow bars on the shelves, creating a dull ringing as the metal shook.
“Let’s have some fun!” She lunged forward and grabbed the child by the arm, pulling her closer as she raised the knife in her other hand. STOP! Every muscle in her body ached and burned as she tried in vain to fight back. STOP! PLEASE STOP! Vanessa shut her eyes so tight that it hurt, the little girl’s screams and Vanny’s maniacal laughter ringing in her ears, until both abruptly ended with a loud thud.
“Ouch!” Vanessa opened her eyes, her ears still ringing. She was back in the hallway, still frozen in place. The little girl had tripped on her untied shoelaces and had fallen onto the ground. She got back up, giggled, and trotted off down the hall away from Vanessa, oblivious to Vanessa standing at the other end of the hall.
Vanessa stood, paralyzed and unable to move. Get out… She struggled to breathe, her heart beating so strong she felt like it could break through her ribs at any moment. Get out… She began to tremble, her hands cold and clammy. Get out. The sounds and music from beyond the hallways faded into static and were drowned out by the loud thumping echoing through her chest and pounding in her ears. Get out! She took a step back. GET OUT! GET OUT! GET OUT!
She turned on her heel and sprinted towards the door back to the main atrium. As soon as she burst through the door, the sights and sounds became overpowering, disorienting her. Her eyes darted around, looking for a way out, looking for a way to get away. The bright lights and vibrant neons blurred her surroundings. She couldn’t tell where she was anymore. Seeing no other option, she picked a direction and ran. Everything began to blur together as she ran aimlessly, hoping to run into something she could recognize. Her stomach was tying itself in knots, and she felt a tightness in her chest as her breathing got faster and faster. All she could hear was her thundering heartbeat and the sound of her footsteps.
Suddenly, she slipped on a freshly mopped section of the floor. She gasped as her feet disappeared from beneath her, sending her crashing to the cold tiled ground. The shock was just enough to bring her surroundings slightly back into focus. As she quickly got back to her feet, she saw a familiar sight. In the hallway in front of her, there was a door to one of the security offices.
She stumbled through the door, slamming and locking it behind her. She stared at the door for a moment, slowly backing into the corner. She slid down the wall and curled up into a ball on the floor, her knees held tightly against her chest as tears streamed down her face, her crying muffled by her hands as she curled in on herself.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” she murmured to herself. She stared wide-eyed at the blank space in front of her, her breath shaky as she shivered and trembled. She felt her throat tense as she tried to hold back tears and stay quiet, but after a moment she completely broke down and sobbed loudly, the sound muffled as she held her face in her hands.
After her crying quieted to little more than a whimper, she rubbed her shoulders and picked at the fabric of her uniform, her eyes closed as she tried to calm her breathing. She felt very sore, her muscles still tense. She sighed and wiped her tears on her sleeve, the damp spots showing up clearly on the white fabric.
Her eyes snapped open when she heard a knock on the door. She glanced at her fazwatch. It was nearly the end of her shift already. She cleared her throat and took a deep breath, trying her best to hide the fact that she had been crying before she responded.
“Yes?” Her voice was still very shaky and strained, her response sounding very forced.
“Uh… Vanessa? Are you… okay?” Gregory paused for a moment, giving her some time to respond.
“I’m fine,” Vanessa croaked, holding back more tears. She heard Gregory shifting around on the other side of the door for a moment. Suddenly, she heard the card scanner ding on the other side of the door, and quickly tried to compose herself. She straightened her posture and wiped the remaining tears from her eyes as Gregory walked into the room, a look of concern and confusion in his eyes.
“I think you accidentally called me with your fazwatch…” Gregory held up the watch on his wrist, making Vanessa freeze for a second. “So… what’re you doing in here? And… why are you crying?” Vanessa took a deep breath, picking at the hem of her sleeve.
“I… It’s… There’s… there’s a… a-” She tried to continue, to explain, but the words got stuck in her throat. She could feel more tears flowing down her face. She couldn’t fight it anymore, and she covered her face before bursting into tears.
Gregory took a step back, unsure of what to do. After a moment, they heard a faint noise. Then, the room fell silent. Gregory looked up. The monitors in the office were tuned in to some of the security cameras from around the pizzaplex. One of the monitors displayed footage of the back hallways, and he could see a little girl in a pink sweater sitting on the floor, playing with a Chica plush. The sound of her giggling could be heard coming from the screen.
“A… kid?” He glanced over at Vanessa. She was staring at the floor, picking at her sleeves, avoiding looking at the monitors. “You’re scared of a kid? Why?” He glanced back at the monitor. “I don’t understand… What’s so scary about a little kid?” Vanessa shut her eyes, thoughts and memories running wild in her head.
“I…” She hugged her knees close to her chest, trying to force the words out. “I… I can’t be responsible for another one…” She buried her face in her arms. “I can’t… I-I don’t want to hurt another kid…” Her voice lowered to almost a whisper. “I can’t… I can’t… I can’t,” She repeated over and over again.
“What? Why would-” Gregory paused, his eyes wide when the realization hit. “...Oh…” He looked over at Vanessa. She continued to cry quietly in the corner, hugging herself and seemingly trying to take up as little space as possible. Gregory cautiously walked over to her, before sitting down on the floor beside her.
After a long moment of silence, Vanessa could hear Gregory rummaging around in the backpack she had packed with snacks and stuff for him. He hesitantly patted her shoulder, and she slowly glanced towards him, her eyes red from crying.
“Here,” he held out a bottle of water. “Trust me, it helps.” She took the bottle of water, and Gregory scooted over on the floor to give her some space as she calmed down. Gregory looked through his bag again while Vanessa took a drink of water. He held out a pack of fruit snacks, offering them to Vanessa. She shook her head, taking another sip of water after wiping the tears from her eyes with the edge of her sleeve. Gregory shrugged and put the snacks back in his bag. They sat in silence for a few moments, giving Vanessa some time to catch her breath.
“Look,” Gregory turned to Vanessa, “I know this is scary.” Vanessa glanced at him after a moment or two. “But we do have to do something about this.” Vanessa took a deep, shaky breath.
“I can’t…” She held her head in her hands. Gregory thought for a moment, wrinkling his nose up and tilting his head, creating an odd expression as he tried to think of a way to help. Then, he looked over at Vanessa and gave her a slight smile.
“What if I go with you? Would that help?” Vanessa looked over at Gregory. Why was he so calm about this? Shouldn’t he be afraid of her? What if she tried to hurt him? A million questions ran through her mind. She didn’t want to go out there alone, but she was worried about having Gregory come with her.
“I don’t know if that’s a good idea…” Gregory looked over at Vanessa.
“If you’re worried you’ll hurt me or something, I can tell you that I know you won’t. Besides, even if something does go wrong, I think I can handle it.” He stood up and threw his backpack over his shoulder. “I made it through 6 hours here being chased around by Her and a bunch of crazy robots! This is nothing compared to that.” Vanessa stayed tucked into the corner, still worried and not entirely convinced.
“But what if She comes back?” Gregory paused. Vanessa ran a hand through her hair as she looked up at the ceiling. “I can’t stop her…”
“I don’t think she will come back.” Gregory readjusts his backpack as he heads towards the door. “Even if she does, I think I could handle it.” He opens the door and turns back towards Vanessa. “So, ready to go take care of this?” She stares at him for a moment, then she sighs and picks herself up off the floor.
“Okay… let’s get this over with…” She walked through the door, Gregory following close behind her.
The two of them made their way back to the main section of the atrium, stopping on the second floor balcony to look around and see if they could find the little girl.
“Hm… hold on, let me check something…” Gregory looked down at his fazwatch and pushed a couple buttons on the screen, eventually ending up on the screen where he could view the security cameras. “Oh, sweet, I can still use the cameras from here!” After a few minutes of flipping through the different cameras, he pointed at the screen and looked up at Vanessa. “Looks like she’s still in the back hallways. Come on, let’s go!” They headed down the escalator towards the main floor, Gregory leading the way. Once they reached the main floor, Gregory ran towards the door to the hallways.
Vanessa stood frozen at the base of the escalator. She could feel her heart starting to beat faster once again. She felt paralyzed, all the noise starting to become overwhelming once again. Get out. Get out. Get out. Get-
“Vanessa?” Vanessa shook her head and blinked a few times. She looked down at Gregory, now walking back towards her. “Are you okay?” She tried to focus on her surroundings and tried to calm herself down, but it wasn’t working.
“This may sound… a bit strange… but…” She took a deep breath and closed her eyes, embarrassed. “Could you… hold my hand? Please?” She looked over at Gregory, even more embarrassed after seeing his shocked expression.
“Uh… yeah, sure.” He walked over and held Vanessa’s hand, leading her towards the door.
“Thank you…” He glanced at her and shrugged, a slight smile on his face.
“I really don’t mind. If it helps, it helps.” Gregory opened the door, the familiar and unwelcoming scene of gray concrete walls and still air stretching out before them. The bright lights and overpowering music faded away as they walked slowly into the darkness.
It was very dark, seemingly even darker than it had been earlier when Vanessa found the girl. After a moment of blindly wandering, Gregory took a flashlight out of his bag. It was dim and needed to be recharged, but it would have to do. He navigated them through the maze of identical corridors, stopping only for a moment when there was a branch-off in the hallway before continuing.
After a few minutes, they could hear the little girl giggling nearby. Vanessa took a few deep breaths as they got closer, trying to keep herself calm. They turned a corner, and wandering down the middle of the hallway, they saw the little girl. She turned to look at Gregory and Vanessa, smiling and waving at them.
“Hi!” She looked back at the posters on the wall, lifting up the Chica plush to look at them as well. Vanessa took a deep breath, then she smiled softly as the girl faced her once again.
“Hello there, what’s your name?” The little girl smiled and wandered to the posters on the wall once again.
“Alice.” She held her Chica plush up to one of the posters before turning back towards Vanessa, holding the plush up towards her and waving its hand. “And this is Chica!” Vanessa waved at the Chica plush.
“Hello, Chica!” The little girl giggled and hugged the plush close to her, messing with the bow on top of its head. “Well, Alice, my name is Vanessa, and this is Gregory.” She waved a hand towards Gregory. “So, Alice…” She knelt down to Alice’s eye level. “It’s awfully late for you to be here. Are you here with someone?”
“My uncle brought me here.” She sat down by Vanessa, still fiddling with the bow on the Chica plush. “We were playing hide and seek! I waited for a long time, but waiting is boring, so I stopped hiding.”
“I see…” Vanessa stayed silent for a moment, trying to think of a way to handle this situation. “Alice, do you happen to know your mom or dad’s phone number?” Alice looked up at Vanessa, a proud smile on her face.
“Yeah! Mommy told me I had to remember it!” Vanessa sighed, relieved that there was an easy solution.
“That’s great!” Vanessa stood up, brushing the dust off of her pant legs. “How about we go wait in the main office in the lobby while I call your mom? I can get you some crayons or something if you want!”  Alice jumped up and down in excitement, then followed beside Vanessa and Gregory as they walked back towards the main atrium.
After they had all made it to the main lobby, Vanessa set out some paper and some crayons for Alice to doodle on while she called her parents. Gregory shared some of his snacks and decided to draw with Alice, chatting away about their favorite animatronics. Vanessa stepped out of the room to get some quiet while she made the call. She put in the number, and after a second, she could hear someone on the other end.
“Hello?” A woman answered, her voice calm and quiet.
“Hello. My name is Vanessa, I’m the night guard here at Freddy Fazbear’s Mega Pizzaplex.” Nothing but silence came from the phone. “I was given this number by your daughter, Alice.”
“Alice?” She paused for a moment, her calm demeanor fading. “What’s going on?”
“Well, it seems that she was left behind before closing time.” There was a brief pause before she heard a sharp gasp from the phone.
“WHAT?!” Vanessa nearly dropped the phone as she pulled it away from her ear, the mother’s voice so loud that it hurt. She quickly responded, the woman on the other end now anxiously stumbling on her words.
“Don’t worry, she’s fine, she’s waiting in the front office. Would you or someone else be able to come pick her up?” After a moment, she heard the woman take a deep breath.
“I’m on my way.” Her tone was harsh, her anger seeping into every word. After she hung up the phone, Vanessa poked her head back into the office.
“Okay, Alice, your mom is on her way to pick you up, okay?” Alice nodded and hummed in acknowledgement, not looking up from her drawings. Vanessa closed the door and continued to wait in the lobby, occasionally looking through the window into the office to check on the kids. After the security doors opened, she looked through the glass doors and saw a woman running towards the Pizzaplex. She burst through the doors, out of breath and very clearly distressed. She walked up to Vanessa after a brief pause to try and catch her breath.
“Vanessa?” Vanessa nodded.
“Yes, that’s me. You’re here to pick up Alice?” The woman let out a deep sigh, brushing her hair out of her face.
“Yes, I am. Thank you so much for the call.” Vanessa smiled and led her to the door to the main office. As soon as the door opened, Alice jumped up and ran over to hug her mother.
“Hi, mommy!” Her mother knelt down and scooped her up into a tight hug.
“Hello, sweetheart!” She let go of Alice and looked her over, letting out a sigh of relief when she saw she was okay. “I’m so sorry I didn’t pick you up sooner!” Alice giggled.
“It’s okay, mommy. Vanessa let me draw with crayons!” Her mother smiled and picked her up, hugging her again.
“Well, at least you had fun.” She turned back to Vanessa. “I’m so sorry about this. Her uncle can be… forgetful sometimes. Thanks again for the call.” She walked back towards the front doors, Alice sleepily rubbing her eyes and waving to Vanessa and Gregory as her mother carried her. “I swear I’m going to kill that airheaded idiot,” she muttered quietly to herself as she walked through the doors.
Vanessa stood in the lobby, staring at the doors after they left. She sighed, relieved that everything turned out okay. Everything turned out okay… She smiled as she watched the sun rising, the light sending colorful reflections onto the walls around her. Everything is okay. She’s okay. She closed her eyes, letting herself enjoy the warmth that was now enveloping the empty Pizzaplex. I’m okay…
“Vanessa? Is everything okay?” She looked over her shoulder to see Gregory walking towards her, packing what was left of his snacks back into his bag.
“Yeah… everything’s okay.” She smiled, all the worry and anxiety melting away. “Come on, let’s get out of here.”
As they approached the doors, Vanessa paused for a moment and smiled. A happy melody played over the lobby speakers, and the sun continued to shine brighter and brighter through the open doors, bathing the entire space in a warm glow. For the first time in a long time, Vanessa was hopeful that things would get better.

bright beginnings pt. 3
so many things have happened that led me here, and i’m glad they did because i don’t know what i’d be doing if i wasn’t here.
pairing: single dad!joseph quinn x fem!reader  wc: 1.3k  warnings: swearing i guess? nothing drastic
part two • part four
“where’s jordan?”
“in her room on the phone with shawn, is everything okay?”
“i need to talk to her.”
without as much as a hello to your aunt, you kicked off your sneakers barely remembering to take off your purse and put it next to the front door before tripping your way upstairs, stopping abruptly in front of your cousin’s door. jordan was your life line. and in times like this one, where you didn’t know what the fuck to do, she was the person you needed to talk to.
“jordan.” knock knock knock, “jordan.” knock knock knock. “jordan.” knock knock--
jordan spoke up through the closed door. “can it wait?”
“it's a lowkey sos moment.”
“shit, shawn i’ll call you back babe, okay? okay, love you.” moments later, the door flew open. “are you okay?”
you pushed past your cousin, sitting on her bed. “i think my boss is flirting with me.”
“i’m sorry… what?”
“and i might have invited him out for drinks on friday.”
jordan pulled a face, trying to wrap her mind around everything. “i feel like we skipped ten chapters here.”
“i only met him this morning.”
“yes, we definitely missed some chapters. i’ll fetch the bacardi, yeah? tell me everything.”
jordan reached down into her wardrobe drawer, pulling out a bottle of bacardi she kept in there for times like this. she sat down on the bed next to you, both of you sitting criss-cross applesauce as your knees touched. she poured herself a nice glass of coke, or as jordan liked to call it, a fizzy, the bacardi going in seconds later. as that was happening, you were trying to figure out where to begin. she had known you were working at the daycare for a while, about five months now to be exact, but to what extent your job was, you weren't sure she knew.
“where do you want me to start?”
“from the beginning.”
“okay but like, the beginning beginning, or the beginning?”
“just tell me the story already!” she playfully pushed your shoulder.
“so, bright beginnings. i got hired what, five months ago now? by a dude named john. old dude, probably should have retired years ago, old. but he’s sweet, you know? lovely little fella.”
“yes, i was there the day you came home, i happened to be back from class early.”
“right. so flash forward to probably about two weeks ago, without warning this dude just retires. i mean, good for him but like, yikes. so me and the girls, our group chat is blowing up because we don’t have a boss, right?”
“right.”
“wrong.” you smirked. “unbeknownst to us, john had talked to his family friend’s ex husband to take over the daycare.”
“and he’s your new boss?”
“correct. so we didn’t know if we even had a boss for a while but like, we knew someone had stepped in because the office door was closed and john never closed the door. those two weeks go by and guess who gets sick today.”
“uh….”
“the twins. the ones that i adore. riley got sick. came down with a fever today. so i had to call her dad because her mom is an absolute piece of shit.”
“yes, we’ve been over this quite a few times.”
“you’ll never guess who her dad is.”
“a famous movie star?”
“no!” you hit her leg excitedly. “he’s the fucking boss!”
“no way.”
“yes way. he was stuck in the office working on get this, divorce papers.”
“okay, so he’s single. what’s his name, lets look him up.”
“joe. uh.. joe quinn. are you sure you want to-”
“i know i want to, darling. i’m the queen of facebook stalking- oh my fucking god, he is hot!”
you looked over to jordan’s phone, which had his facebook pulled up. his profile picture was him with the twins, and his banner was a picture of what seemed to be the three of them on a walk, but it was most definitely professionally taken. he had a few public posts, mainly about the daycare and how much progress it was making, and a few from what looked to be his university days. the first thing jordan did was go to his about me section, scrolling straight to when his birthday was. january 26th. an aquarius. a lot of his public tagged posts were with either julia from when they were together- and it seemed she had already forgone quinn and went back to her maiden name - and a few from a guy named wesley. before you could protest, jordan clicked on wesley’s profile, going straight to his feed. it seemed he was close to wesley, as he was in a lot of the pictures with the twins as well.
“so he’s single, has kids and has a social life. good to know.”
“and he’s hot! what’s stopping you, y/n?” jordan looked over to you with a wild look in her eyes.
“he’s my boss, jordan, that’s what.”
“then why are you flirting with him?”
“i don’t know!” you dramatically flopped back onto the bed, your arm draping over your eyes. “i really don’t know! i’ve never done this before.”
“flirted? i damn well know you’ve flirted with multiple men before.”
“flirted with my boss, jor. i don’t know what’s gotten into me! and fuck, i invited him out with the girls on friday and-”
“okay so it’s not just the two of you, the girls are going?”
“as of right now, it's me, lucille and lauren for sure. probably donna too, but she left earlier than we did so we’re not sure.”
“think of it this way, you can use it as an excuse to get to know your boss better.”
“over drinks?”
“did he say yes?”
“well he didn’t say no…” you trailed off. “fuck, he’s coming to drinks on friday isn’t he?”
“i’d like to think he would be, but you’ll have to tell me. you’re not backing out of this now, you invited him!”
“i’m not gonna back out of it.”
“this is you, y/n, you were gonna. i know that tone of voice.”
you rolled your eyes, pushing yourself up. “fine. i was gonna say last minute we had a family thing. fuck you for knowing me too well.”
“fuck you for being friends with me since we were two.” jordan rolled her eyes. “well, i’m beat, i’m going to bed.”
“no you’re not,” you gave jordan a pointed look as you walked to the door. “you’re gonna go stalk his facebook.”
“yeah, you’re right. i’ll let you know if i find anything important!”
                                                            ---
the morning came too fast for your liking, and you pulled up to bright beginnings nice and early, seeing as you were one of the three girls who were full time. you all took turns doing opening shifts, and lucky you, today was your day. it appeared you had gotten here before joe and the twins, meaning you had time to check your makeup and make sure you looked decent without being judged.
that was, until you heard a set of familiar giggles coming up the way.
“riley! thomas!” you bent down to their level and let them run into your arms. “good morning my angels!”
“sorry, i looked down for one second to try and find my keys and they took off running.”
“good thing i was here, huh?” you looked up to joe. “oh i already have my keys out, don’t worry. i just got here to open.”
“alright, angels, lets let ms. y/n open the door, okay? come to daddy.”
you got the door open and the kids ran inside, leaving you and joe. you looked at him, realizing in that moment he wasn’t wearing one of his normal suits.
“you’re wearing jeans.”
joe laughed. “can’t run after the fastest mile holder in a designer suit, now can i?” he paused. “you do your opening stuff, i’ll go play with the kids for a few. take your time, yeah?”
“yeah. i will.”
you went around to the desk to grab everything you need, a sly smile forming as you watched joe go into the play area to play with the kids.
yeah, you were fucked.
