The Rook x Observant Reader got even longer. I’m not even talking the current word count which is 39k. I’m talking I have more idea to fit in the end so the entire theme of the fanfic is more wholistic. Yes, there are core themes in this like real novels or short stories. There’s even foreshadowing. I intentionally use story structure to enhance the reader’s experience. I make sure that there’s no scenes that are not there for a reason. If I could take it out of the story and it would still make sense, I’ve banished it to the scrap pile.

I have no idea how this happened. I’m as surprised as everyone else. I’ve been in shock for the past 3 hrs.

Some of these things I didn’t even plan until I looked a little closer and analyzed it and went “oh my god! The parallels!” You’ll get it once you read it.

I wrote a little bit of the prequel to Material Girl (the No Squid Game AU). Gihun and Inho's first meeting.

Getting roundhouse kicked in the chest by a stranger in a SWAT uniform had not been on Seong Gihun’s horoscope that morning (or maybe that was what the vaguely threatening "you are going to get a reality check today" had meant), but here he was, lying on his back in one of those overcrowded emergency room cubicles the hospital sectioned off with light blue curtains for some semblance of privacy, with said stranger still in his SWAT gear and bulletproof vest looming over him.

“Hwang Inho,” His assailant introduced stiffly and rattled off a lengthy sequence of numbers.

“Eh?” They’d given Gihun something for the pain and it was making him a little dizzy.

“My name and badge number,” The man said, his jaw clenched tight as he advised, “you should lodge a formal complaint to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency when you are able to walk, sir.”

“Oh…ok.”

“Did you remember what I just said?”

Gihun’s head lolled. He blinked groggily at the figure dressed in all black. “Are you my nurse? This needle in my arm hurts. Could you blow on it?”

The man didn’t move.

“Please?” He whined, blinking back tears.

heeeeeeeey everyone, i am not dead and neither is this comic!

i got a little stuck trying to figure out how to handle chris draining the aqua ring. i definitely do not want to just… draw a panel by panel recreation of an re puzzle. no thanks 🤣. but it felt like maybe skipping a little too much to not mention it at all.

we shoooooould be timeskipping next time tho. chris has made his intentions clear so hopefully it will be less jarring when i just… go there.
