found the old display book where i stored my second (and longest)(and unfinished) fanfic and i’ll have you know the highlight was Severus stabbing a dragon in the throat with a poisoned dagger to save Hogwarts, in front of everyone 🙌🏻

he was able to jump on the dragon because he had ✨angel wings✨ black covered in ebony feathers, of course 🖤

and every chapter had deep poetic introductory quotes bc i was a dramatic teenager.

Trying to create a planet with plenty of trees growing out of the water, like deep water and all that. Trees in the middle of the lakes of up to 200m depth. What would I need for that?

Tex: So trees are trees (in an exceptionally reductive sense) because they photosynthesize with sunlight, grow very tall in order to out-compete the other plants that also do this, and have a woody bark known as xylem that manages their vascular system (Wikipedia). I’m not actually certain if trees can withstand being underwater their entire lifespans, because I’m assuming xylem requires water primarily on the inside and not the outside in order to properly function.

The only trees I know of that come close to what you’re suggesting are mangroves, but those inhabit an intertidal zone (Wikipedia).

What aspect of trees are you wanting to emulate? The height, the comparative size to other flora of similar scope in their microenvironment, something else? Species tend to hyperspecialize to their niche environment, so broaching aquatic versus terrestrial boundaries is much more difficult than even saline versus non-saline aquatic environments. Aquatic environments are very… mobile, in comparison to terrestrial counterparts. Trees take a long time to grow, and have the ecological room to do so because their long lifespans have numerous benefits for other species in their environment. The marine food chain is heavy on the predatory trophic levels rather than the photosynthetic trophic level, so trees as a concept don’t have a reasonable, contextually-adequate space to evolve and thrive (Wikipedia).

Field course update #18 I think now, FOSSIL DAY

I am going to make these few posts really short for now because I am very tired and busy and also pretty behind with these posts. This is from two days ago now, we saw some Devonian aged rocks and fossils too! This is at Howard Falls in PA.

I am super into paleontology so this was super interesting and fun for me to just look around. We were measuring strat columns which I also really liked :)

Soon I will post more info for this area and even my start column I made when I get it back. It was the first time I ever did it and I am pretty proud of it!

Not much to comment on today. Technology was really fun. I'm getting myself there in terms of study habits. Was frantically doing Geography homework that's due tomorrow because I forgot we had homework. My propagules are still (mainly) propagating.
