okay this took me much longer than i expected it to; i've been fully mentally occupied by a very long RP, but hopefully i'll be back again shortly, w/ more entropyverse!

spy ♤ sniper ♡/◇ scout

im thinking so hard about the potential for a sniperspy dynamic before RED is formed wherein spy is needlessly rude and demeaning towards sniper due to his young inexperience in the field & generally more animalistic nature compared to how spy and his 'colleagues' carry themselves.

obviously, spy has absolutely no obligation to take sniper under his wing, but he has no need to antagonize him either. some guy who's a perfect stranger who maybe had a couple of messy hits and botched jobs when first starting out but overall has proved his worth time and time again, just for spy to continue to treat him condescendingly

and obviously that isn't the only factor in sniper's issues as we see his disagreements with his own family about his career choice, but i think it definitely adds to his whole "professionalism" gimmick wherein he sees himself as his job title first and as a person second.

he isolates himself even further than just regular introverted awkwardness and instead crafts himself into a tool to kill, convinces himself he doesn't need any human connection whatsoever because he will be mocked for it, because it gets in the way of his work.

and i think once sniper finds out about spy being scout's father, regardless of whether sniper and scout are romantically or platonically involved, he would see his own experience with spy and be thankful scout was SPARED from that. at the same time, he points out to spy he failed as a father, not once but TWICE -- directly and indirectly.

if spy has any issue with the way that either of them behave, any issue with scout's loud personality or sniper's standoffish nature, he has only himself to blame for the role he played in influencing them whether he was involved in their life or absent from it.

and i think he would struggle so hard with that. he doesn't have a nurturing bone in his body, and his failures are a testimony to that, but he refuses to admit that it's his fault, at least outwardly. i think he would have a crisis over how he tainted two people who had so much more to look forward to in life.

sniper could have climbed the ranks and been internationally recognized and feared. he could have left the business altogether and done something else with his skillset (proper game hunting or even wildlife photography). all he needed was a little encouragement and support.

scout could have been a professional in sports, whether baseball or track. he could have had actual confidence behind his false ego. he could have done something other than take on more and more questionable jobs just to support his ma.

spy taked out his anger with himself on the both of them and in turn pushes them further away because he will never be satisfied with what is versus what could have been and it tears him apart.

Sniperspy in my mind (and partly in the comics) have this solidarity of being complete Loners in comparison to their team. I see this kind of compatibility with them where they can finally have someone with the same “get it done efficiently” mindset that a lot of the other mercs don’t have or have less of.

The ISTJ INTJ solidarity is real and they encompass it perfectly. Spy is like *this guy is so weird and has no class but I can totally get behind his dedication to efficiency* and Sniper is like *this guy is frivolous and attention-grabbing but he is an expert at keeping his emotional distance* and like. they are both attracted to eachother because of that. they have finally found this other person who they can see themselves in.

but then they have the problem of no attachments. but… what happens when theres nothing about the persons character/personality you disagree with? sure there are differences in lifestyle but it’s not too drastic. Sure Sniper likes hunting while Spy would prefer looking through clothes magazines, but there’s no difference in moral lifestyle. It’s like, theres finally someone they can both let their guard down around because neither of their guards *actually* go down. They’ll still be alert, no matter the situation.

so, they go on a few couple road-trips around the west coast/midwest. they find ease around eachother, they have similar views, they can make fun of the same people, and they can find an escape from their jobs.

Then, here comes the problem for Spy. Keeping yourself detached has always been a typical strategy for spies, but does it really apply to everyone? Theres this dedication to keeping yourself a shrouded mystery, because no matter how earnest someone says they are when keeping secrets-you can never completely tell. And hes always had this way in relationships (romantic or platonic) where he’s with someone, then he cuts it off. no questions answered, no calls taken, no letters returned to sender. He’s gone. It’s the way of things as a spy, right? The job is done, the relationships are done. But, is this a dance he’s going to be wanting to do until he dies? Theres only so much time in a man’s life. (and a smoking one at that, but i digress)

He likes fancy clothes, he likes chance, he likes problem-solving, and he likes planning. He likes it so much that he’s willing to put his own life in the hands of his own mind, and his abilty to act on instinct.

Now, with this new indefinite contract where he battles alongside 8 other men in various locations across the globe in a decade old fued between two brothers, he wonders if he’ll even need to *cut the ties* of this job/era in his life.

he has one of the most innovative and smartest doctors at his dispense to heal any disease or wounds he has, he has good pay, and freedom to be his own person *in the most mysterious way possible* and he gets to boss around and insult his coworkers with no repercussions from the employer. He lives in a constant state of planning against his own clone! (which he believes to be the best candidate to fight against)

So when this like-minded wilderness man comes to save him from his social boredom, should he stop himself from forming an attachment? It’s only human after all, emotional bonds are a pillar in human nature. But, is it worth it to give into something he hasn’t been with for at least 20 years just because he *thinks* he won’t have any other job? He truly believes, if he does allow himself to have strong emotional connection with Sniper, he may never be able to cut the tie, he’ll get too attached.

Now, for Sniper, there’s this dilemma where he’s never had a relashionship to cut off. His parents passed pretty recently, and he’s feeling lonely! How are you supposed to brush off the feeling that you could have a genuine connection with someone like you? Maybe… just keep up the battlefield rivalry and keep getting pissed at this annoying invisible guy who keeps ruining your shots by stabbing you in the back, but then, theres this belief that he’ll always be there to mess up your plans, and that is still a sense of security. How is it that Sniper should have no connections strong enough to deter him from planning to kill them, but still mentally function as a person?

In my mind, Sniper and Spy found eachother at the perfect spot for connection, they are both starting to question their own needs, even if it’s in different ways. Sniper lost something, and Spy hasn’t had something for a long time, but is just now questioning it.

It’s a scary dance for both of them, of course, but it’s not a dance to easily keep yourself from doing. It’s the most emotionally invested either of them have been in a romantic relationship, so how you just end it? how do you just say “no, no more.” and then see the person you know you love on the battlefield and not say anything?

thoughts on sniperspy specifically?

A classic! If you want a good spicy rivalship then they have you covered, haha. I've seen them range from dark obsessive murder guro to domestic tsunderes, they can really do it all. They have a really fun antagonistic dynamic that's a lot of fun to play with, whether they're banging or just hanging out together platonically. Spy's such an aloof snob and Sniper is a filthy weirdo so it's a lot of fun to see how they tweak each other. They've always been a rather popular ship even way back in the day and there's a reason why, they're great counterpoints to each other and in-game they're always interacting with each other in some way. Well really, mostly Spy is hunting Sniper, it's unlikely for a Sniper to be hunting a Spy unless they're fighting after a failed backstab, but you know what I mean. Sometimes when there are too many Snipers hassling my team I think "where are all the Spies?? Killing Snipers is their job!" to myself. I can't really judge though, I'm a terrible Spy lol.

I also love screenshots of Spies about to kill a Sniper that's killed you. Getting sniped always sucks but the bot crisis has made it REALLY frustrating, so it's very satisfying to see a Spy about to get revenge for you, haha. I even have a screenshot of my own!

sniper is an evil class Anyway, some of my favorite bits of fanart for them are Sniper winning Spy toys at a shooting gallery, this one where Spy can't tell if Sniper is threatening or flirting with him, this one with them walking in the heat, and this one with Sniper covering his unmasked face.

SCOUT: My personal favourite is ScoutPauling lol. A basic bitch answer, I know. But I think they're so cute in a dorkxdork kinda way. DemoScout is a close second too.

SOLDIER: For me, it's probably SoldierZhanna. I'm sorry, they're just perfect for each other. Dumbass 4 dumbass or something. I also have soft spots for SoldierSpy and SoldierMedic. I don't mind DemoSolly, but I personally prefer them as besties; their platonic bon is seriously underrated.

PYRO: SniperPyro. I'm sorry. It's my first TF2 ship and I will love it if it kills me.

DEMOMAN: I am a demofan of the Demoman, alright? This man is sooooooo shippable, everyone ship with him is just absolutely perfect. DemoScout, DemoSolly, DemoSniper...but my personal favourite is DemoSpy. I love it so much. Best TF2 ship of all time in my biased as hell opinion.

HEAVY: Can you be on TF2 Tumblr and not love HeavyMedic? Okay, confession time: I like Spoovy more. Sorry guys, but Spoovy will always reign supreme over HeavyMedic for me.

ENGINEER: Funnily enough, I actually don't think about Engie in terms of being shipped a lot. IDK, I just never really thought about it, or he's just paired offscreen with a minor and irrelevant OC because the plot demanded it. I do like HeavyEngie, whether in a romantic or platonic context. It's just soooooo cozy to me.

MEDIC: DemoMedic. I wasn't kidding when I said Demo was the most shippable guy.

SNIPER: Back on the SniperPyro train! I get the appeal for SniperSpy, I just prefer them as vitriolic best buds. Anyways, if I had to pick a second Sniper ship, it'd be SniperHeavy.

SPY: DemoSpy! DemoSpy! DemoSpy!

MISS PAULING: ScoutPauling, once again for the reasons I listed for Scout. I'm sorry, they're just too adorable.

ZHANNA: Again, back on the ZhannaSoldier hype train.

MERASMUS: I don't really ship Merasmus with anyone, but I will admit that Soldier x Merasmus is realllllllly fucking funny.

i know i've posted this like three times, now, but i believe i have finally finished editing & messing w/ this story, so here it is again in all its glory: the entropyverse!

after hating this first chapter for the longest time, i've finally gone line-by-line & tweaked / edited the whole thing.

it should read much smoother now, & maybe introduce the characters a bit better than the original did.

however, if you didn't like it the first time, you probably still won't.

but i do, at least - & that's what's important. :p
