On Jordan's pronouns..

So the show has openly referred to Jordan as "Bigender" not necessarily "non-binary" (not to say that only non-binary people choose to use they/them pronouns) and we've seen Jordan's friends and loved ones use she/her, he/him and they/them pronouns without any corrections from Jordan.

From that, I think it's clear that Jordan is comfortable with all three pronouns being used. I would go further and say, when using gendered pronouns, Jordan seems to prefer them to mirror how they are presenting.

So more or less, he/they when they're in their masc form and she/they when they are in their fem form. Which is reflective of the experience of some of the genderqueer/gender fluid people I've known irl.

In fact, the only instance of true misgendering we see towards Jordan is in episode 3, from their parents. Essentially, their dad intentionally ONLY uses he/him pronouns, regardless of Jordan's form. And in that instance, there is the added context of the fact that Jordan's father openly rejects Jordan's fem identity.

I bring this up to say, that there's a very annoying behavior I've noticed where anytime someone refers to Jordan using a gendered pronoun, people either jump down their throat or rudely correct them to *they, as if they are intentionally misgendering Jordan.

To some extent, I understand the desire to come to Jordan's defense because the majority of the world is very transphobic, and people want to nip any potential misgendering in the bud.

But I think it is also harmful.

I've seen a lot of discourse about the inherent transmisogyny of people who exclusively refer to trans women and other binary transpeople by "they" pronouns only, as a way to still not acknowledge part of their identity.

There's nothing wrong with using "they" exclusively for Jordan (I do that in my fics too. Just cuz it's easier), but the whole point of pronoun discourse is to get people to actually take the time to respect people's chosen pronouns and understand how it relates to their identity. And when people are genuinely trying to do that in good faith, but people are jumping down their throat and insisting they only use a blanket "they" because of the off chance that you're assuming they're trying to misgender a fictional character, I think it's actually less progressive than people think.

Like yes, call out misgendering and point out when people are actively trying to assign a specific gendered identity to Jordan; but actually take the time to figure out if that is what the person is doing first.

I've been seeing a growing backlash towards Neo-pronouns and any identities outside the gender binary, and I feel like this level of over-correction directly feeds into that sentiment.

Has anyone noticed the same thing? Or maybe have a different interpretation of Jordan's pronoun usage?

TLDR: Since, some people have misunderstood the point of this post-

Jordan uses multiple pronouns.

It is okay to use gendered pronouns for Jordan as long as it's done with proper discretion.

Use context to figure out if someone is actually trying to misgender Jordan before aggressively correcting their pronoun usage.

Forcing people to use a blanket "they" pronoun for a genderqueer person/character, who uses more than one pronoun is *not* progressive.

How does his everyday life look like? What kind of problems does he face? Can you understand how he feels? Can you understand his hopes, his dreams, his grief? Or can you only try?

How much life experience does he have? Is it comparable to yours?

If not, then how big is the gap between you?

Is he your age and are you figuring life out together as a team?

Is he just a couple of years older? Stronger and wiser, but still easily relatable? Or maybe he's older, but a hopeless mess of a man?

Is he an incomprehensibly older being whose age you cannot possibly relate to, but who still manages to find some common ground with you?

And maybe he's younger? For example, are YOU a hundreds of years old entity while Sans is just a common mortal man?

Just some simple examples, I tried not to be too specific. Possibilities are endless.

For those wondering, I just stumbled upon the answer as to why bdubs hasn't uploaded! I checked his account for a video and saw he had a stream up, and assumed he might answer the question I'm sure more than just me had on stream- why wasn't he uploading his limited life episode?

For one, it's a lot of editing- Etho was in the stream and made a joke about it taking 8 hours. As Bdubs himself said, it's a three hour recording session, and you have to run through those three hours at least twice to get the content you would want. That on top of the fact that in order to not make the content entirely boring and repetitive, you have to leave your group / team on purpose often, so you can get solo content or other interactions. Bdubs said there's a lot of roles to play- actor, writer, editor, etc (not that it's scripted- he was just using a metaphor) and that he just wanted to play the one role of actor. The upside of this is that he gets to spend time hanging out with people the whole session, and we will see all his best moments highlighted in other people's videos as is!

The downside of this, of course, is we don't get his perspective. That being said, he mentioned he's considering uploading it all in one video at the end of the series, to get some of his viewpoints on things. It's not a definite, but it's a possibility.

Overall it makes sense and it gives him time and energy to work on other projects, so I figure it's worth it.

If you wanna log in to participate in a event that fine, I get for some CC's purgatory 2 isn't lore (I mean it clearly is, but some players are choosing not to involve it in their lore.) But when you've made the discussion not to take part in the lore you can't ask about it on screen.

I literally got confused when someone told me bad had a reason and to check there lastest reblog, thinking the book gave them the reason and apologising, this fully left me thinking that the residents where told to return home until I was discussing with someone else and realized I fully misread that (I need to wear my glasses more TBh)

But this play apart of the problem because what I except was a lore reason and I went looking for it, just to find out later there is no lore reason bad just calls himself vactionbadboy halo when he wants to log in.

Look I get playing purgatory for fun, I get wanting to log in to see your friends, Tubbo did it, and Pac did it; but the difference with them being they made up a reason to be there (the boat didn't leave) is a completely valid reason.

I can see them going home and then later being drag back to the boat by the incompetent egg Island workers, but jumping back and forth to the island in the middle of purgatory is problematic.

If you don't want to take part in the lore then don't, don't ask questions about what's happening lore wise (on stream he can always inquire in dms ) , don't do things on the Island that messes with other people's lore or breaks the immersion make it easy for the actual people who care about the lore; Ie: fan fiction writers, artists, role players (I am all these things) to pretend you're not there!

This sounds dumb but I genuinely, when lore is happening take note of every little the to go "how can I explain this in lore, how could I enhance this in lore" to help with my fan art or fan works.

Genuinely I have a list of game mechanics,(chat, tabs list, death messages) and have written ways to explain them in lore, so you can imagine my annoyance when someone who isn't supposed to be involved ask questions fresh of a lore event.

I think the confusion to add to it is that Phil has been trying to do more improv on the spot right now rp; like leaving cuucurhoo the notice of the eye guy and keeping his webcam on until a big event ( and I love him for that, genuinely I love lore so much because it feeds art and fan fiction)

But I feel like im being taken a fool when someone who isn't technically supposed to be there asks questions about something they're not supposed to be awear of and even bounces of it like they're in lore "yeah it looks like we're going to war with you guys." we who? You're supposed to be Vacation halo, you aren't in purgatory right, if so how did you get home?!

Get what I'm saying? It sucks because everyone else so far seemed to-do A decent job of staying out of lore if they want to visit some committing to not coming back to the island at all (cough* bolas *cough ) .

If you don't wanna take part in the lore don't complicate the already existing lore, it annoynes me greatly.

I don't mind the attenting events so much, it's the fail rping of discussing something you shouldn't know not long after it happened. (Metagaming)

I once said this on Twitter and got a LOT of backlash for it, but I think it's worth saying. Piper McLean is not hyper-femme. She's not even femme. Piper McLean is a butch sapphic woman. Though there's no problem with portraying her in pink or doing "girly" things every once in a while, if everyone is doing it all of the time, it creates a fandom misinterpretation of the character. It erases her identity as butch. Yes, she improved her internalized misogyny. No, that does not mean that she has become femme or "feminine." Part of feminism and eliminating internalized misogyny is the realization that women have the choice of how they want to present. Piper presents in a more androgynous/masc way. That's how she is, and I don't think all fanart of her should misrepresent her in such a way.

Aventurine’s culture being based on Romani culture does not mean that every single aspect of Romani culture applies to his in-game culture. Hoyo as a company has shown many times in the past that they will pick and choose different parts of a culture to create their in-game cultures. They are not saying that every single part of a culture is meant to be represented, they’re just taking inspiration, there’s a difference. Not only would it break immersion to see a real life culture depicted in-game, but imagine how offensive it would be if they got something wrong? Imagine how hypercritical we would all be of them?

Aventurine is NOT Romani, he is Sigonian, a fictional culture that is based on the real world Romani culture, but is NOT the same thing. They will have overlaps, but they will also have differences. They are NOT one and the same.

Saying that just because something is Romani it must ALSO apply to Aventurine makes no sense because he ISNT Romani. Please let’s remember to separate our real lives when talking about these fictional characters. You can assume and hope and guess and think that maybe a certain aspect of Romani culture might also apply to him? But it’s not a fact, it’s a headcanon, please don’t treat it as canon.

At the end of the day we will never know what aspects of the Romani culture hoyo intends to be part of the Sigonian culture, but that’s why headcanons are fun. You can pretend all you like! Just remember it won’t make it any more canon.

Today I had the best time volunteering for a teaching project (which is led by our chief vascular surgeon).

That is, apart from the fact that we ran into some of our abdominal surgery attendings, who gave me a massive (verbal) side-eye for technically hanging out with the vascular surgeons in my free time. (Some of them don’t really see eye to eye, both medically and personally).

I want to buy a sticker from your shop, but shipping (to Canada) is down as $22 before tax. May I ask why it costs so much to ship a single sticker? Is it Etsy being weird, or does it really cost that much to send an envelope over the border?

I'm not trying to be snarky or passive aggressive or anything, I'm genuinely just kind of befuddled atm.

A fair question honestly! USPS sets the rates for international shipping, and shipping to canada really is about that expensive 😭 I considered sending stickers via envelopes, but 1. if I send them with a stamp (less than $2) they don't have tracking, and etsy Does Not Like That. I gotta send packages with shipping to qualify for star seller, plus it covers your ass in case USPS loses it. and 2. apparently it's illegal to send merchandise internationally in envelopes!! so sadly we're all stuck dealing with the super crazy international rates. I don't like it either because as someone who deals in trinkets, people generally do not want to pay $16 for a charm that costs $12, and they especially don't want to pay that for a sticker that costs $4... I would ABSOLUTELY have way more international sales if USPS wasn't fucking us with the prices but it's out of my control dssdjkfjksdf

I give this advice a lot, but if you don't want to pay international shipping (or just live in a country I don't ship to myself), you can borrow the address of a friend that lives in the states and they can forward it to you! I don't actually know if this is cheaper, but some people have said it is. it's def cheaper for stickers though if your friend uses a stamp!
