Shadow and Shade Casting List (Part 1)

(IF YOU ARE TAGGED IN THIS IT IS BECAUSE YOU EITHER ASKED TO BE TAGGED IN THIS SERIES AND I WANNA KEEP YOU IN THE LOOP OR YOU’RE ON PERMANENT TAGS!!)

So I’m the type of person that likes to put a face to a name so I’m making this “casting list” to help y’all visualize the other Gods and Goddesses (Nyx’s children and siblings) for Shadow and Shade. This is my interpretation and how I see them. You of course will play yourself/Nyx and the Avengers will obviously play themselves!!

This took a lot of time and effort when it came to finding information and it was hard to find the abilities/powers and homes of like one or two so I had to come up with that myself based off of their title.

There are more characters but I will be posting in parts so the post doesn’t get too cluttered!!

Zoë Kravitz as Hemera, Goddess of Daytime:

Daughter of Nyx, also a Protogenoi

Abilities:

-Pyrokinesis (can launch projectile blasts of flame at opponents. Can appear and disappear in columns of flames)

-Photokinesis (create illusions, hallucinations, light shields, force fields, project healing energies, blasts light to impale or blind enemies for some time/ or forever)

Home: Tartarus, during the night

Personality/Traits: Since she is literally your (Nyx) opposite, you two argue and bump heads a lot. As the Goddess of Daytime she is very bubbly. Many Olympians adore her for her positive outlook on everything. She is known to be naïve here and there and because of that she can be tricked easily. She has a kind heart unlike some of her siblings.

Quote: “Then Mother, somehow, all by herself, had me, Hemera, I am Day. Us two never got along because we are as different as... well, you know”

Keirsey Clemons as Styx, Goddess of Hatred and the River boundary between Earth and the Underworld:

Also daughter of Nyx (I know some myths say she’s the daughter of Oceanus and Tethys but not in this)

Abilities:

-Hydrokinesis: as a river nymph, she possesses a considerable about of power over and control over her river.

-Toxikinesis: Just like her river, she can burn away souls.

-She’s a Binder of Oaths: she has the power to bind an oath of the Gods and punish those who break them.

-Odikinesis: as the Goddess of Hatred, she can sense, insight and remove hatred.

-Power Bestowal: She can bestow incredible power to mortals, giving humans the power to physically challenge a God/Goddess.

-Necromancy: can summon souls of those who have broken oaths, to her aid, as their souls belong to her in Death.

Home: the Underworld.

Personality/Traits: She is filled with hatred but can be nice if those around her are nice to her. She is a pessimist.

Quote: “For thousands of years, you mortals have been throwing in everything as you come across- hopes, dreams, wishes that never came true. Irresponsible waste management, if you ask me,”

Ashleigh Murray as Keres, Goddess of Violent Death:

Daughter of Nyx. The Keres (singular, Ker) are actually multiple deathly female spirits but come to one when personified, her race is a Daimon which means spirit in Greek. The Keres are the Greek version of Valkyries as they are both war spirits that fly over battlefields and choose those to be slain.

Abilities:

-Death Empowerment: She feeds off death, which means her power increases when people die.

-Poison: She has a deadly poison that only the power of a God, Titan, or similar being can heal.

Home: the Underworld

Personality/Traits: Keres is very dark. She loves dark humor, she dislikes Hemera and Philotes for their happy go lucky attitude. She is very pessimistic and stand offish. She loves making games of the lives of mortals with her brother, Moros.

Quote: “I am full of rage. Die in pain!,”

Vanessa Morgan as Akhyls, Goddess of Misery and Poisons:

Daughter of Nyx. Also a protogenoi.

Abilities: 

-Toxikinesis: As Goddess of poisons, she has absolute control and divine authority over poison.

-Death Mist Control: death mist is a supernatural force. It shrouds demigods and mortals from the presence of monsters

Home: Tartarus near the Night Mansion/Palace

Personality/Traits: Has self-esteem issues. She’s a complete sadist. She trusts no one.

Quote: “Minor Goddess? I was old before the titans were born. I was old when Gaia first woke. Misery is eternal. Existence is misery. I was born of the eldest one- Night and the grandchild of Chaos”

Sierra McClain as Oizys, Goddess of Depression , Anxiety and Grief:

Daughter of Nyx. Momus, is her twin brother.

Abilities:

-absolute power over pain, suffering, misery, anxiety and depression.

-able to cause her enemies absolute mental and physical anguish

-can make healed wounds feel as if they’ve never healed, causing opponents considerable pain.

-can control mental/emotional misery and sorrow at will, either lowering its severity or boosting it.

-can perpetuate a state of distress, this forces the opponent/victim to focus solely on sorrow and misery in their mind, making them panic.

-empowered by the pain of those around her.

Home: Tartarus

Personality/Traits: She is confident as fuck but she hates the life that was given to her. She hates causing others pain and distress, especially if they are innocent and don’t deserve it. She is a pitiful Goddess and often looks back and sometimes regrets her decisions. She hates fixing them so often she’ll leave them to rot. 

Quote: “The truth is... I feel broken inside. Intoxicated with madness, in love with sadness,”

Kat Graham as Philotes, Goddess of Affection, Friendship and Sex:

Daughter of Nyx. Minor Goddess. She is a force of good things. Literally the odd ball (other than Hemera) of the family because all her siblings are evil and then there’s her. But they protect the hell outta her!

Abilities:

-she is a sexual and spiritual guide to those in need

-can be a seductress/femme fatale

-able to bring love, civility and refinement into the world around her through her value of relationship and deep caring.

-can control love between two people

Home: Tartarus but mostly finds herself on Earth having affairs with mortals.

Personality/Traits: She’s offended by life-destroying offerings (blood sacrifices). Loves dressing sexy or not dressing at all tbh. She’s charming, a big extrovert, adores being the center of attention, and she loves love! She loves bringing people together and has a thing for playing match maker. The topic of sex is casual to her, EXTREMELY flirtatious. She is very sensual, loves everything about the body and being in touch with one’s sexuality.

Quote: “Through me, we can discover our strength, enlighten our minds, own our bodies and celebrate our emotions,”

Logan Browning as Eleos, Goddess of Compassion, Pity and Mercy:

Daughter of Nyx.

Abilities:

-able to induce and manipulate feelings of compassion, mercy and pity.

-gains strength from feelings and acts of kindness

-able to induce intense feelings of compassion, mercy and pity in her opponents

-She can enter a frenzy in which she has no compassion, mercy or pity for a while. When in this state, she can’t distinguish who is friend, foe or an innocent bystander

-can curse an opponent’s weapon with feelings of compassion and kindness, so that it heals wounds instead of causing them.

-can heal injuries on her or others’ bodies by performing acts of kindness.

-can remove any compassion, kindness etc from a person and/or animal, causing them to fight.

Home: Athens

Personality/Traits: She isn’t happy often tbh but always willing to show kindness. She’s shy, vulnerable and “weak”. As she is the Goddess of compassion, she is often sad. She hates attention and hates to be approached by people.

Quote: “Compassion and tolerance are not a sign of weakness but a sign of strength. So put on tender mercy and kindness as if they were your clothes,”

Race-reversed casting is having all white characters be played by PoC actors and vice versa to allow actors to play roles they couldn't have played otherwise. Sir Patrick Stewart invented the concept.

Okay, I looked it up, and honestly it sounds like Patrick Stewart just really wanted to play Othello.

So, I'm gonna say a few things, the first being this: race is a not a two-point system. It's not a binary. Grouping all people of color into one category and positioning all them against white people in the same manner and on the same strata is a futile and useless way to approach race and racial inequality, in any sphere. It's not literally black and white-- therefore, there is no such thing as, in Stewart's words, a photo negative.

Second, this sort of "reversed" adaptation only makes sense for a well-established, widely known piece such as Othello. It wouldn't be subversive or transgressive if it wasn't within that sort of framework, and even then, I question the value, given the motive.

As a classically trained Shakespearean actor, Stewart had wanted to play the titular character in Othello but stated that when he got to the point in his career where he felt he was experienced enough to play it, it had become no longer socially acceptable for white actors to put on blackface to play the role. Pack it up, grandpa.

Lastly-- I'm generally in favor of breaking up majority-white casts and narratives, but I'm also, as a basic rule, against altering the race of non-white characters. So, to take it back to Marvel-- if someone made a Young Avengers adaptation, they could cast actors of color for Kate or Cassie, but they couldn't cast a white actor for Eli or the twins. They also shouldn't cast a non-Black actor for Eli, for example.

Nothing is ever truly color-blind-- if you change a characters apparent race or ethnicity, through casting or redesign, you will probably have to put some thought into recalibrating that character's backstory and perspective. It might not always be a major change, but it's important to keep in mind. There are also some characters whose whiteness is an intentional part of their narrative, and characters whose actions or politics ought not to be projected onto people of color. For example, I think that Professor Xavier is an inherently and necessarily white character-- his privileged background, centrist politics, and deeply shady behavior as a flawed leader of the early mutant movement make the most sense if he's an old-money white guy. Does that makes sense?

You probably didn't ask for all of that, but those are my thoughts on racially swapping, recasting, or reinterpreting characters. For characters of color--stay true to who that character is. By all means, open up initially-white roles to actors of color, but don't do it without taking the needs and nuances of your newly imagined character into consideration.

And don't make up excuses to whitewash important, historical Black roles just because you're mad that blackface is no longer acceptable. G-d. What a disappointment.

X-Men Abridged: 1975

The X-Men, those super dramatic mutants that have sworn to protect a world that hates and fears them, are a cultural juggernaut with a long, tangled history. Want to unravel this tapestry? Then read the Abridged X-Men!

(X-Men 94 - 96) - by Chris Claremont, Len Wein and Dave Cockrum

You think I won’t automatically be able to include a powerful Storm-moment in every instalment? Watch me. Claremont is a much bigger Storm-fan than I am. (X-Men 96)

So, originally, the plan for the All-New X-Men would’ve been very different: the series would have remained Giant-Sized and it would’ve come out four times per year. This format would have allowed enough room to split focus between thirteen team-members. However, when the Krakoa-issue turned out to be crazily uncannily astonishingly popular, the series became a bi-monthly series. This necessitated some changes, especially in the roster.

Also, there’s this new writer? Chris Claremont? idk man, he seems a little dramatic

The first thing this new kid on the block does, is clean house: he jettisons almost all of the original X-Men, except for Cyclops. In a tear-filled goodbye, we finally get our first on-panel kiss between Jean and Scott. Fucking finally, only took you twelve years, but also: aw.

C’mon Scott, you can try long distance! Consider the benefits, like not having to look at your girlfriend dressing like a Hart-of-Dixie villain. (And don’t think you’re off the hook, Lorna. You look like a Christmas ornament) (X-Men 94)

Sunfire, surprising no-one, also leaves. (For real this time.) I’ve always wondered what the original plan for him would have been, but considering there are two other grumpy and angry rebels on the team (Thunderbird and Wolverine), I understand why Shiro would be a little redundant. It is a shame that it’s a POC that gets discarded, especially considering what happens later.

No time for absent souls, let’s get into the plot! Thunderbird desperately wants to prove himself, while Scott wants him to show some restraint. They butt heads and T-bird gets hurt during training. Despite his injury, he insisting he joins the team on their next mission! Because it’s the Avenging Ex-X-Man Beast who calls for aid.

I love that Beast brushes aside this almost entirely new team of X-Men just as easily as my aunt brushed aside the new boyfriend I brought home for Christmas. (X-Men 94)

As an aside, I’m assuming y’all know what happened to the Beast: in the Avengers, he experimented on himself and turned himself furry and blue. One of his most iconic moments! (And it didn’t even happen in an X-Men comic.)

Count Nefaria has once again allied himself with a team of silly super-villains and invaded the NORAD (North-American Air Command) in order to ransom the entire world with nuclear weapons. When the X-Men approach, Count Nefaria shoots them from the sky and we get one of the hallmarks of Claremont’s writing: the sometimes unnecessarily DRAMATIC CLIFFHANGER! Because the issue ends as the X-Men plummet to their FOR SURE INEVITABLE deaths…

Except, you know, Colossus doesn’t really do falling damage and Storm and Banshee can fly.

Look, realistically, all of them would’ve hit the ground somewhere around Kurt’s second sentence. (X-Men 95)

When everyone is safely down, Nightcrawler teleports inside the base and lets the rest of the X-Men in. Colossus gets to shine by protecting the rest of them from bullets, while Storm washes the hypnotized soldiers away with a quick flood. They fight the Ani-Men but the two X-Men who haven’t had the time to shine… are promptly knocked out.

“Gort wanted to take out that mutant, so Gort just threw the first thing Gort could find.”

“Which was?”

“Another mutant.” (X-Men 95)

Banshee and Thunderbird perform pretty poorly, while the other X-Men try and stop the Doomsday Clock that Nefaria started.

It’s a little confusing how the clock is stopped - somehow, all the fighting and ruckus in the base stopped the clock from going to zero, preventing the launching of the nukes? Seems like a design flaw, US government! Anyway, the Doomsday Clock is not the focus of this story, not really: this is a story about John Proudstar and his desperate need to prove himself. In order to stop Count Nefaria from escaping, the heretofore useless John jumps on his plane and begins tearing at it.

It’s a foolish plan. The plane ascends and begins to smoke while John keeps pulling off bits and pieces. Banshee gives chase, screaming at Thunderbird to get the fuck off that thing (laddie). But…

Just like John, Charles doesn’t recognize a hopeless situation when he’s right in the middle of it and is just as unwilling to let go. (X-Men 95)

Now, John Proudstar is not entirely unproblematic as a character. With Storm, they get things mostly right, especially considering what decade this was and how white Marvel was. Thunderbird, on the other hand, veers dangerously close to becoming a nasty indigenous stereotype, especially considering his outfit and attitude. Claremont will redeem himself in the future by writing much better characters that are Cheyenne and Apache - Forge, Mirage, Warpath - but as it stands now? John is barely a flat character and it’s a shame that, after writing out Sunfire, the first character to die is also a POC.

And yet, despite the fact that this storyline is Claremont’s first X-Men attempt, and despite the fact that it’s uneven, over-dramatic and has a silly villain, it still takes balls to kill a member of a barely established team. (Especially considering the time and age.) And, while the plotting is a bit thin, the moment where Xavier feels Thunderbird die is pretty effective.

The next story is a lot more typically Claremont, and a lot better. Back in Westchester, Emo!Scott, in all his failure-as-a-leader, someone-died-on-my-watch anguish, damages a cairn when he lets loose. Randomly, this is a capstone to some demonic dimension and Scotty accidentally unleashes a demon.

Can´t you imagine this scene being a lot funnier if the yellow panels are just Claremont shouting at Cyclops? Can’t you?! Can’t you?! (X-Men 96)

Meanwhile, Stephen Lang, an anti-mutant army-man, wants to kick off Project Armageddon, which builds on themes established by the Trasks. Michael Rossi, a colonel who gets imported from the Ms. Marvel-lines Claremont was working on before, wants to hear none of this, so Stephen has a little accident arranged.

Back in the mansion, a surprise new addition to the cast arrives!

Maybe housekeeper was one of the identities Moira X had tried out in a previous life, before quickly realizing that being a scientist would better suit her purposes. (X-Men 96)

Her welcome is rudely interrupted by the arrival of the demon!

More like Unholy Hannah, amirite? (X-Men 96)

Both Wolverine and Storm get their chance to shine, before Storm manages to restore the cairn and lock out the demon invasion. And this is where Claremont actually shines. He’s great at building concurrently running storylines, teasing future plots instead of making it a mishmash of X-Men being attacked by random villains. Furthermore, he actually uses action scenes to further the plot or give depth to his characters. Deftly, he introduces Wolverine’s berserker side and teases at Storm’s claustrophobia. Check it out:

Hey, James, I think your barbarian just unlocked the berserker rage feat. (X-Men 96)

Sure, Claremont sometimes makes the X-Men little more than a superhero soap opera, but he does it so well. We’re truly in a new era now. I can’t wait.

For Whom the Death Tolls: Thunderbird. One of the few X-Men for whom death is actually a sort of permanent state. Has he been spotted on Krakoa yet?

What could have been: Imagine X-Men if Sunfire or Thunderbird had taken the place of ‘angry loner’ on the team, instead of Wolverine. Also, I wonder why Claremont never bothered to connect the demons under the cairn to Limbo - the N’Garai are an entirely separate dimension. Maybe Westchester is just a hotbed of demonic activity.

What to read: None of it is truly pivotal, but X-Men 94 and 95 are hallmarks for the death of Thunderbird. X-Men 96 should be on your reading list if you’re a fan of Wolverine and Storm.

Some series I think people should read AKA Book Recs

Magonia - By Maria Dahvana Headley

My experience: This book is ALL sorts of weird. It’s has a strange writing style and there’s weird formatting and quirks that just add to the experience. Definitely not something you could read aloud because there’s elements that you just can’t say. The book OPERATES on the vibes you get from reading it.

Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children - Ransom Riggs

Synopsis:  A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of very curious photographs. It all waits to be discovered in Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. My experience: Definitely worth a read but definitely not for everyone. Uses semi-creepy images taken from auctions to illustrate a lot. More people have seen the movie than read the book. Please don’t trust the movie they couldn’t even get the names right. This fandom exists so don’t @ me it just deserves so much more love than it has. 

Legend - Marie Lu

My experience: I’ll admit I didn’t want to read this. More out of stubbornness than anything else because my sister forced me to. Bu it’s a REALLY good book. As the first in a trilogy it’s amazing. Marie Lu is one of my favourite authors. Which brings me to my next book

The Young Elites - Marie Lu

Synopsis:  I am tired of being used, hurt, and cast aside. Adelina Amouteru is a survivor of the blood fever. A decade ago, the deadly illness swept through her nation. Most of the infected perished, while many of the children who survived were left with strange markings. My experience: This series had me HOOKED. If you want moral endings and noble characters you may not like this one. Adelina has every reason to be angry and bitter and she makes it known. She has such a vague moral compass and even her powers are rooted in darkness and she succumbs to it, as much as she may try to run. The series is full of POC’s and amazing world building. If you want something outside of the usual story, I recommend this with no hesitation.

Rebel of the Sands - Alwyn Hamilton 

Synopsis:  Mortals rule the desert nation of Miraji, but mythical beasts still roam the wild and remote areas, and rumor has it that somewhere, djinn still perform their magic.  For humans, it’s an unforgiving place, especially if you’re poor, orphaned, or female. Amani Al’Hiza is all three. She’s a gifted gunslinger with perfect aim, but she can’t shoot her way out of Dustwalk, the back-country town where she’s destined to wind up wed or dead. Then she meets Jin, a rakish foreigner, in a shooting contest, and sees him as the perfect escape route. But though she’s spent years dreaming of leaving Dustwalk, she never imagined she’d gallop away on mythical horse—or that it would take a foreign fugitive to show her the heart of the desert she thought she knew.

My experience: This series again is absolutely incredible. I love the use of language and the world building and the characters. A lot of the world building was really close to my heart because it’s rooted in Arabic and Islamic traditions. Amani is one of the best characters I’ve ever read about and I only WISH I could buy the rest of the books soon.

okay here it is, part 1 of my sci fi tv and movies rec list! i’ve split it up into 2, kind of by tone and theme. these recs are on the lighter side. part 2 is for fans of darker sci fi. i could’ve gone on tbh but i had to draw the line somewhere. it’s not perfect but i hope you find something you like that you haven’t heard of! full titles, trigger warnings, and diversity/general notes under the cut. ask box open for any more specific questions!

If you liked STAR TREK and STAR WARS:

Black Mirror: USS Callister: (tw: simulated child loss, brief torture) coworkers get trapped inside their boss’s Star Trek spoof video game. It’s led by a white woman but the entire cast is pretty diverse (Michaela Coel!!!) and it’s critical of white edgelords. Dark moments balanced with funny!

Firefly: (tw: sexual harassment in one episode, sex worker phobia, Joss Whedon-ness) I think this one is more well-known; a small space crew travels the solar system taking on any weird jobs they can get. Two leading WOC, a black man, one interracial relationship.

Avenue 5: (tw: some dark humor, language) Star Trek meets the Titanic. Funny! I’ll leave it at that. 3 leading WOC, a canonically pan main character in a poly and interracial relationship.

Black Mirror: Be Right Back: (tw: grief, partner loss) a woman’s SO dies and she simulates his resurrection through a software that scans his social media accounts. This one isn’t diverse but it’s an hour of Domhnall Gleeson, if he’s your thing!

Stargate: (tw: 90s/00s racism/sexism) tbh I haven’t watched most of the content but I’d say it’s on par with a Star Trek kind of thing. SGA stars two or three POC in a cast of like 7 regulars.

If you liked PACIFIC RIM:

Black Mirror: Hang the DJ: (tw: none that I can recall) a man and woman fall in love via dating app. It doesn’t have monsters, but it’s an incredibly charming episode that exhibits some of Black Mirror’s best qualities imo and I think people who like the Raleigh/Mako dynamic will like what these two have!! Interracial relationship between a black woman and a white man; black woman is blink-and-you-miss-it bi, but still canonically bi.

Cloverfield (tw: violence/blood, frequent flashes, shaky cam): found-footage flick about aliens attacking New York. Basic and not too diverse but it has the huge monster appeal and I like the found-footage aspect.

Edge of Tomorrow: (tw: VB) Groundhog Day alien apocalypse. it’s Tom Cruise buuuuut you get to see Emily Blunt at her most “I’ll end you”-est so like? Worth it I think??

Arrival: (tw: child loss) aliens come to Earth to offer something to the humans. A little slow, but definitely a different take and some cool-looking aliens.

The Host: (tw: child loss) A girl gets kidnapped by a huge river monster. it’s in Korean and all the characters are Asian. Directed by Bong Joon-ho and starring Kang-Ho Song and Bae Doona!! Plus environmentalist commentary.

If you liked MARVEL and DC:

Misfits: (tw: sex, language, violence, rape) imagine one of those superhero teams like the Avengers except they’re all criminals who’ve given up on life and don’t actually care about making the world a better place. Chaotic stupid energy. Two black leads :)

Push: (tw: a few bloody scenes) Chris Evans before Cap?? Dakota Fanning before Twilight? Secret government experiments and black ops superpower organizations? You love to see it!

Fast Color: (tw: past drug use referenced) superpowers that pass down from generation to generation in a family of black women. Need I say more? Need I say any fucking more?!?!

Sense8: (tw: child loss, grief, lots of nudity and sex, drug use, language, infidelity) 8 people around the world start experiencing each other’s lives and borrowing each other’s skill sets. This is probably THE most intersectional and diverse show I have ever seen. An international cast and setting that reaches almost every continent, leading trans lesbian, multiple QPOC. Truly incredible and one of my absolute favorites.

Jupiter Ascending: (tw: bees) I actually don’t really like this movie but I do think it has its appeal and I appreciate how much it is just unabashedly itself. Don’t take it too seriously! The cast is kinda wild too--Mila Kunis, Eddie Redmayne, Sean Bean, Channing Tatum!!! And it’s by the Wachowskis, AKA the two trans sisters who did The Matrix and Sense8!

If you liked THE HUNGER GAMES:

Gattaca: (tw: implied body modification, trichophobia, eugenics) in a society that discriminates against genes, a man with a heart condition assumes another’s identity in order to achieve his dream of becoming an astronaut. I love this movie. It’s very moody and soft with a really compelling dynamic between the two leading men which I’ve always read as gay.

Snowpiercer: (tw: VB, minor cannibalism) yet another winner from Bong Joon-ho, who’s surprised? All of humanity lives on a train in which all the cars are stratified by class. This is my favorite of all the movies from all the Chrises. Evans is by far my favorite Chris for this!!! It also features Octavia Spencer and Kang-Ho Song! Piping hot class war tea pre-Parasite.

V for Vendetta: (tw: torture, I don’t remember a lot of the details sorry!) I haven’t watched this movie in a minute so I don’t remember how much I actually liked it, but I thought it was worth mentioning because it’s a classic dystopian movie.

Children of Men: (tw: infertility, childbirth, VB) humanity has lost the ability to procreate for 2 decades until one day a resistance group discovers a pregnant woman. Holy crap so much extremely relevant and prescient commentary on immigration, race, class, and refugee crises!!!

Akira: (tw: disturbing imagery, objectification, nudity) I don’t really remember this one much either? But it’s Japanese, there’s biker gangs, and it’s super weird.

The 100: (tw: VB, kill your gays/POC trope, suicide, torture, child loss) 100 juvenile delinquents are dropped onto Earth and chaos ensues. I think most people know that this show is plagued with issues but it really does have a special place in my heart and I think it changed the conversation and standards re: the treatment of wlw in genre fiction. It starts off cheesy and slow but the stakes are SO high all the time and it’s full of thought-provoking ethical dilemmas.

Summary: Stacy, an intern at Stark Industries, is told to give Peter Parker some pictures from his Germany “trip.” / You are auditioning for the role of Stacy in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. During your last callback, you have to do a chemistry read with Tom Holland.

You smiled. “Hi, I’m looking for Peter Parker. I was told he’d be here for Academic Decathlon practice.”

The young man nodded. “Yes, he’s right over there.”

“He might quit though!” One of the girls shouted. “You never know.”

“He did quit band,” another one added. When everyone looked at her with knowing eyes, she only raised an eyebrow. “I’m observant.”

You tilted your head. “What can you observe about me then?”

She tilted her head and looked you up and down. “Type A, private school, intern.”

“You can call me Stacy.”

“Michelle.”

“Anyway, Peter?”

“That’s, uh, me. I’m Peter.” He looked shorter in pictures. His layers of clothing hid the superhero muscle you knew was underneath. His backpack was on the floor, and if anyone stared closely enough, it wasn’t a standard backpack. It wasn’t the patches or the pins that made it special. No, it was the plastered web fluid on the corner, perhaps from a misfire or leftover from when he webs it to walls. 

You cleared your throat and as you walked to Peter you purposely brushed your foot against the misplaced webs to smear it, turning it effectively into a smudge or stain. 

You handed Peter the folder. “Ms. Potts told me to give this to you.”

“Ms. Potts?” Peter took the folder and smiled at it. “What is it? Why-”

“Pictures,” you said. “From the last intern conference.”

He blinked a few times, and for a split second, you could see Peter’s face contort in confusion. There was no such thing as a Stark intern conference. With one look at you and your tale-telling expression, he nodded. “Yeah, yeah the, uh, conference, that I was at. With you, of course. Cause you’re also an intern.”

“Yes, in the research department,” you helped.

“Yeah!” He laughed. “And I met you at the conference...”

You laughed. “Stacy.”

“Right, Stacy. I remember that.”

You laughed. “You know, for a Stark mentee, you have pretty bad memory.”

“I’m just trying my best.” Peter shrugged.

“Hey, it’s all good. We all are.” You leaned in close to whisper. “You might wanna not leave webs on your backpack, though.”

Peter’s eyes widened. He leaned down and whispered back, “You, uh, saw webs on my backpack? That’s, I mean, that’s insane.”

“Mhm.” You tilted your head. “Mr. Stark told me about what you do for your internship.” Peter Parker held his breath, but you just smiled. “Helping out at the Avengers Compound must be exciting.”

“You know, you don’t have to help Parker,” another boy said, a smug smirk on his face. “We know his Stark internship is boring as hell. Not to mention, he’d probably never meet any of the Avengers.”

“Hm.” You hummed and held out your hand. Peter put the envelope in your hands. “Do you mind, Peter?”

“Not really. What are you-”

You opened the envelope and grabbed the first picture. A printed picture of Peter with Black Widow. She was staring at the camera, clearly amused by Peter’s attempt to get a selfie with her. As you suspected, Peter wasn’t in the suit. It was after whatever happened in Berlin. So, his eye was forming a bruise, if you looked very closely, but he had this infectious smile, so it was easy to overlook. 

Almost. You couldn’t believe that the kid you just met, that stuttering, clumsy kid, was Spider-Man. How could a fifteen-year-old do all this? Sure, you had a similar-ish schedule. But your internship was in the research department. You reviewed simple calculations and offered an idea or two. Sometimes, you got to see Ms. Potts walk through the hallways. She said hi to you once.

You squealed when she left.

Those were your exciting moments. 

Peter’s exciting moments was fighting other superheroes and chasing bad guys and swinging through New York.

You glanced at Peter. That kid with a nervous smile was really something.

“Black Widow?!” screeched the kid with that smug look on his face. Well, he had a smug look on his face. It dropped when he saw that Peter really had met the Avengers. He reached out for the envelope, but you pulled them away and handed them back to Peter. “Sorry, here you go.”

He laughed. “That was amazing.”

“It was nothing.” You glanced at that annoying kid, and you couldn’t help but giggle that escaped your lips. “Plus, that was really satisfying, not gonna lie.”

“Still,” Peter insisted, “I could never do that.”

You scoffed. “Please! I know you do braver things.” 

He laughed and looked around, as if trying to hide the fact that his cheeks were turning a slight pink. “I, uh, I mean… not with that.” He shrugged. “I don’t know.” 

You nudged him. “Hey, don’t worry about it. But, if you ever wanna talk, they call me Stacy. And I intern in the labs at Stark Tower. My boss is really nice and lets me take breaks when I need it, or if a friend visits.”

Peter nodded. “I might swing by.”

Your jaw dropped. “Did you just-” You hit him again. “I hate you. I rescind my offer.” You picked up your things. 

Peter laughed. “Hey, what? That was uncalled for! Stace!”

You laughed. “See ya, Peter.” You saluted him with two fingers and left for your internship. Couldn’t leave precious biotech sims and cell cultures by themselves after all.

Tom was stunned for a moment. You were good. You held this confident air around you when you played Gwen. Sure, other girls have too, but you did it with such grace. At that moment, he could see the entire franchise’s span with him and you on the posters. Sure, you didn’t look like the Gwen Stacy from the comics, but you were her in every sense. Sharp, clever, graceful, kind. 

Your eyes met his. When Tom didn’t say anything, you looked through the script. “Sorry, is it my line?”

“No!” He cleared his throat. “Uh, you did a great job.”

You sighed. “Oh, good.” You laughed. “Thank you. You did a great job, too.”

“Alright, thank you, (Y/n). If you got the part, you should get a call from us within the next two weeks.”

You nodded. “Thank you so much for the opportunity.” You shook hands with Sarah Finn and Jon Watts. Then, you smiled at Tom and held out you hand. “And it was nice meeting you, Tom.”

“Yeah, yeah, you too.” He shook your hand. “Hopefully, we can see each other soon.”

“Definitely.”

Just as you approached your car, the man you played opposite of ran outside of the building and called your name. 

You rubbed your tired eyes and smiled. “Yes?”

“Sorry, uh,” Tom stuttered as he tried to catch his breath. You assumed it was from running, but in truth, the actor was just trying to compose himself long enough to talk to you without sounding like an incoherent mess. So, Tom shook his head and stood up straight. “Sorry, I just forgot to ask for your number.”

You blinked a few times. “Right. Of course, you need my number.” He did not need your number, but you were too tired, and perhaps you were supposed to swap numbers. It must’ve slipped your mind. He handed his phone to you, and you typed in your number. 

“Uh, thanks. So sorry about that,” Tom apologized again.

You shrugged. “No problem. It’s nice meeting you.” You laughed. “Again.”

“Yes. Lovely meeting you.” He smiled. “Well, I can’t keep you. Have a nice day.”

“You, too.”

It wasn’t until a few weeks later, much after the two-week deadline, did you realize that Tom was too fit to be out of breath from a very short run. So, that meant there was another reason why the actor wasn’t his calm self. He did gaze at you after the scene had finished. Was it possible…

No. It wasn’t. And even if it was, it didn’t matter. You weren’t going to see him again.

And even if you and he crossed paths again for another project or for an awards show, you were both actors. Cameras and gossip magazines took your privacy away. It’d be too complicated. So, no use in thinking about it.

Your phone rang. The area code was familiar. Maybe it was another open audition. You answered, “Hello, (Y/n) (Y/l/n) speaking,” and grabbed your planner just in case.

“Hi, it’s Tom.”

“Oh, hi!” You smiled widely at the sound of his voice. When you realized it, you pursed your lips. “Uh, what is it?”

“I just wanted to congratulate you!”

Congratulate you? On what? 

The pen fell from your hands. He couldn’t mean. You hadn’t received a call from the casting director. Or your agent yet. “Congratulate me?” you gasped.

“Oh, uh, check your messages.”

“My what?”

“Check your texts. I sent you something.”

You opened his text to find a link. You clicked on it. It read, “The New Cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming - What We Know”. First, a paragraph on Tom Holland and his reprise of his role as Spider-Man. Then, Zendaya who was casted but no details on the person she plays. Jacob Batalon playing Ned, RDJ playing Tony Stark, Marisa Toomes as Aunt May, Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan, and then your name. 

“New and upcoming actress, (Y/n) (Y/l/n) has been cast, but little is known about the character she will play. While Laura Harrier has been confirmed to be Liz Allen, the popular teenager Peter can’t stop thinking about, there is no indication of whether or not (Y/l/n) will be a major character in the film.”

“I got the part,” you whispered. You were cast. That meant that you were given the role you auditioned for. Oh god, you were going to be Stacy!

“I got the part!” you screamed.

“Yeah, you did!” Tom shouted. “Congratulations! You deserve it!”

“Oh my god!” You laughed and shouted, “I’m Gwen Stacy!”

Tom laughed. “Sh!” he teased. “Spoilers!”

You pressed your hand against your chest as if that could calm your racing heart. “Oh, god, I can’t believe this.”

“Really? Your audition was perfect.” He sighed. “I can’t wait to start working with you.”

Working with Tom Holland, the new Spider-Man. It was a dream come true. It didn’t matter how he looked at you when your scene was done or how handsome he was, you were going to part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with an amazing leading man and cast. No matter what happened, this was going to change your life. 

With a dreamy smile, you admitted, “I can’t wait either.”

My very first Spidey review

This is my first and probably my last review, because I’ve never reviewed anything in my entire life and I’m afraid I might do a bad impression. DX

Okay, we will be taking a look at one of the most forgotten, yet very underrated pieces of Spidey media in webdom history (made it up myself plz forgive me >///<); 

The Amazing Spider-Man BBC radio drama from 1995. 

Oh boy, here’s a gem that’s been forever omitted by Spidey fans all over the globe. Radio plays were kind of a big deal back then, but now that we’re in the Smart Phone era, most people would rather watch pictures that move. 

Now THIS, of all cartoon TV series and live action movies I’ve watched, none of them have ever formulated the spirit of the Silver Age comics than this audio drama has done! It adapts the original sixties comics so well, with a few abridged twists to make it more appealing to a nineties audience. Following ASM #1, #3, #4, #5, and #17! There’s a lot of swearing and violence, but only on a PG-13 level. Without the mention of “fuck.”

It recreates Peter’s origin better than any other origin story that attempted to recite Amazing Fantasy #15. Boy’s an outcast, gets bit, doesn’t stop crime, Uncle dies, takes responsibility. This origin story relies on the same material, but is more emphasized, and again, abridged. WARNING: Spoilers ahead! Peter gets bit, falls ills, spazzes into a physical break down. Boy wanted to be a hero at first, realized nobody ever gave a flying fuck about him. Peter wins wrestling match, doesn’t get the greens. Ben sees Spider-Man as a jerk (after letting a killer lose on purpose), thinks his nephew is a real hero, boy gets guilt washed all over him. Peter arrives at the scene of the crime, Uncle is shot right in front of him. Peter stays in show biz after avenging his Uncle’s killer, gets run out of show biz by the Hitler-stace newspaper man.

The drama also features subplots with the Fantastic Four. They’re completely unnecessary but they’re actually quite entertaining. They know how to work their way into the stories. And while we never got to see a real on-screen Spider-Man/Human Torch interaction, this is closest we’ve got! It even sums up some SpideyTorch vibes. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

As far as the characterizations go, they’re really well done! Peter is a nerdy, timid wallflower, Betty is a nervous wreck, May is fragile yet independent, Flash is the stereotypical cliche bully with a heart of gold, and JJ is good ol’ JJ. No saying for Liz, cuz she’s kinda bland. The villains, although may be a little over the top, can be both threatening and hilarious. Oh, I almost left out Peter’s persona, Spider-Man himself! Where do I begin? Well, a few things for sure; he’s clumsy, childish, and thinks he can be a little shit as much as he wants just because his face is hidden! XD I’m not kidding! He’s more adorkable than his MCU’s incarnation! I LOVE HIM! However, this Spidey don’t fuck around thou! Piss him off real good, and he’ll beat your ass senseless as a method of coping with his teenage rebellious phase! O_O (Goddamn, boi!!!)

The voice acting is really on-spot! Terrific and convincing, I might say! Especially William Dufris, the voice behind Peter Parker/Spider-Man. To my surprise, William almost sounds a lot like Christopher Daniel Barnes, whose done a lot of voice work for Spidey around the ‘90s. William is well-known for his roles as Arsène Lupin III from the Lupin The 3rd English dubs, and... Bob. ...Bob the Builder. ...the US version of Bob the Builder. ._.

Heh, I’ve listened to this about a hundred times now, and still haven’t tired. This is a must-have for Spider-Man fans, with great stories, characterizations, and awesome music scores! The best thing about it being only audio is that you can visualize the characters anyway you like! Imagine, Peter can be a POC, some of the cast can be POC, fat, or dressed how you want them to dress! Let your imagination go wild! The whole play available on YouTube and each part is at least one hour long.

PAIRING: T’challa x Reader ft Black Panther Characters

GENRE: Fluff, eventual Angst

REQUEST: T'challa fic where he’s bringing the reader to see wakanda for the first time ever and she’s worried that his family and advisors and the general public won’t accept her bc she’s an outsider (is non poc okay?)

A/N: Oh god I think I liked writing this one a bit too much. Decided to split this one into two (or three!) parts as I don’t want to waffle on. And about the poc!reader aspect, and this goes for my other writings, but it seriously is up for interpretation to any viewer/reader. When people read, we all imagine different things, so I’ll leave it to the readers. But enjoy!

As the sun began to set, T’challa and I sat on the verandah, cuddling in the cozy hammock I had installed when I first bought the house. It wasn’t everyday that I got a whole two days with my boyfriend, who also happened to be a King with a long list of duties to fulfil, so I had to take every opportunity I had to spend with him. 

T’challa ran his fingertips through my hair gently as I laid my head on his chest, sighing in content. He chuckled at this. ‘Comfortable?’ 

‘Very,’ I said before looking up at him as he just shook his head, placing a kiss to my lips briefly, wrapping his arms around me more tightly. 

However after a period of silence, I looked up again to see his forehead creased in thought as he stared out towards the sunset just beyond the hill. 

‘A penny for your thoughts kind sir?’ Once again T’challa chuckled, sitting up a bit taller as he finally spoke. ‘You know how I’m going back to Wakanda in a few days?’

I nod at this, also sitting up properly to face him before he took my hands into his, placing with my fingertips gently, ‘T’challa whats wrong?’

‘Nothing at all, it’s just-I wanted to ask if you would like to join me when I return to Wakanda.’ I sat in shock at this, my hands falling limp in his as he held them a little tighter as I fell silent, ‘Are you all right my love?’

‘Yes but-you want me to what?’ I said incredulously, finally looking up at him. He only chuckled at this, ‘I want you to come back to my home and meet my family! I mean we’ve been dating for a couple of years now, and they are getting quite curious about you and when they’ll finally meet you.’

I gulped at this. I had been worried that this situation would soon arise for conversation between us. Due to the events that had taken place in Wakanda almost a year before with T’challa’s cousin, Erik, I had been worried that the people would not take too kindly to more strangers entering its boundaries, especially the tribes. 

I most certainly did not want to upset the amazing work that T’challa had done the in past year and make things worse. 

‘Y/N?’ I looked up at him at this, sighing. ‘T’challa it is something I’ve wanted more than ever. And I really want to meet your family I really do. But do you really think it’s a wise idea that someone like me comes and visits?’

‘What do you mean? Your an incredible human being! What’s there not to love?’ He said as he caressed my cheek lovingly which I leant into. 

‘Only because you make me feel like one everyday … but that’s not the point. What I mean is that I don’t want to ruin all the hard work you’ve established in the past year,’ I pull away his hand, only to watch as his eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

‘The reason why you and I took such long break in between seeing each other was so you could focus on stabilising your country, its resources and its people’s safety. I mean do you rally think that they’d accept someone like me?’

T’challa smiles suddenly, almost shocking me, but he just leans down and kisses each of my hands firmly, ‘I love you for your consideration Y/N, but I would like the people, but most importantly my family to finally meet the woman I adore and treasure.’

I also smile at his words, looking away bashfully as he just chuckles at my reddening cheeks. I look back up at him before nodding with a large smile, ‘Take me on a journey your Majesty.’

It was almost a week later when I found myself in the midst of my bedroom, packing a suitcase with all my essentials for the trip the night before the day of our flight. T’challa had told me to pack light as most of the things I would need would be provided when I arrived in Wakanda. 

I looked down at the photos of my family. I had come from two simple parents who owned their own bakery throughout my life. I was an only child, but my parents were the greatest friends any child could’ve asked for. 

However they were snatched up from me during the civil war that had occurred between the Avengers due to Zemo. His bomb going off at the just in front of the UN representative building in Vienna, but also the sidewalk where my parents had been walking while on their holiday. 

I had received the news from T’challa himself, promising that he would bring vengeance upon the man who had occurred such a terror. However he returned to me a few months later, telling me that revenge was not a path that he could take, and as much as I wanted it, I knew it at that moment that it wouldn’t change anything. 

‘Oh Mum, Dad, how I miss you both so much. So much has happened since you passed. Tomorrow I will be going to the home country of T’challa. I wish you could’ve met him, he’s so kind. And yes Mum he’s a King, and yes Dad he gets in trouble with the law at times for running around in a Panther suit. But he’s more than that, he’s a kind, young man full of ambition and dreams for his people.’ 

I said as I ran my fingertips over the young faces of my parents before placing the photo in my bag, ‘He was the best thing that happened to me after you both died. His light brought me out of grief during a time I’d never see it again.’

‘And she was the best thing that ever happened to me,’ I turned at this to see T’challa leaning against the doorframe with a gentle smile before making his way over and sitting beside me. 

He took up the photo frame into his own hands, his smile widening at the sight of my parent’s photo, ‘Mr and Mrs Y/L/N, you raised such a beautiful young woman, one that captured my eye the moment I met her. She works tirelessly to help others around her, is kind to all, and loves her enemies no less than anyone else.’ 

T’challa turned his attention to me now as tears streaked down my face, wiping them away with his thumb gently, ‘Your parents would be so proud of you.’ 

I smile at his words, gripping his hand back, ‘And your father would be so proud of you for what you have accomplished. I just wish I could’ve met him to thank him for raising such a compassionate son, but I guess I can tell your Mother that.’ 

It was his turn to smile, pushing away the wisps of hair that had gotten in my face before placing a firm kiss to my lips, running his hand through my hair before placing it at my neck, keeping me in place. I pulled away slowly, caressing his cheek gently before getting back to packing. 

It was moments like this that I appreciated the time we were given alone. T’challa could read me like an open book, as could I to him, knowing when something was obviously wrong. 

But more than that, we were so comfortable in each other’s company that we could talk about anything. Any topic was allowed. And it was great! As two different people from different cultures, it helped each of us gain a greater understanding of one another as individuals, and as a couple so we could face multiple situations with a different outlook.

‘Darling?’ My eyes slid up slowly as a kiss was placed to my forehead, the blurry image of T’challa all dressed and ready swam in my view, ‘Its time to wake up now.’

The room was still cast in darkness and I knew instantly that it was still in the very early hours of the morning. T’challa had wanted us to travel early so we could reach their at least after midday. And it meant more time to rest on the flight over.

I smiled tiredly at Okoye as she greeted me with a bow, ‘Sister Y/N, it is so good to see you again.’

‘Okoye how many times have I said to call me Y/N, were friends!’ She chuckled at this, embracing me briefly before turning to T’challa, ‘Your Majesty everything is ready for our departure.’

‘Very well then Okoye, take us home,’ The King said as looked down at me with an excited smile. I was out like a light the moment my head hit T’challa’s shoulder as we took off. It was several hours later when I was gently shaken awake my T’challa once more who had a massive smile on his face now, ‘Look out the window.’

I turned my head at this, my eyes widening as we glided peacefully over a mountain to come face to face with one of the most beautiful cities I had ever seen.

I took it all in, the tall buildings glinting and sparking against the sunlight, the trains, the tiny dots of children running around what looked to be schools. It all just seemed so perfect. I looked back at T’challa in awe, ‘Its incredible!’

He chuckles at this, wrapping his arm around me as we looked back out the window together, placing his lips against her ear gently, ‘Y/N, welcome to Wakanda.’

so if you are bitter bout mcu what are your unpopular opinions?

so a few people have actually asked me this since i said something vague about mcu yesterday haha so i figured i’ll just make a big long post under the cut and i am sorry if anyone takes this offensively, i just have to rant about some of this stuff so read at your own risk (spoiler i get mad and it is longgggg)

I do also want to say i love the mcu despite its many problems and i do my best to separate it from the comics because i understand a movie/tv show can’t develop characters the same way decades of comics can and different versions of their personalities/backstories are okay but still there is some corruption i can’t take

First off - the maximoffs. Like … no! I really am not a fan of the mcu versions. I could deal with their new personalities/upbringings if it wasn’t at the expense of their ethnicity. Like for those of you that don’t know, the maximoffs are jewish and romani, they are basically whitepassing pocs and they were very poor and are even children of holocaust survivors … so how the fuck and why the fuck did they volunteer to work for hydra ?!?! just completely corrupting everything that made them who they were is so disrespectful and to make them fucking work for A NAZI ORGANIZATION is not a small personality/backstory change, it goes against everything from the original characters.

Wanda maximoff also just walked into the avengers with barely any accountability for her actions, yes she had to deal with the pain of what she caused at the beginning of civil war but hardly anyone is bringing up the fact that she toyed with bruce/hulk in aou which caused so much damage and very likely resulted in a loss of many civilian lives, how is no one realizing it is her fault ?! she was pardoned for everything she did when tony was painted as villain WHY

Also in civil war i was more on tony’s side, i do think that cap was right in thinking that they shouldn’t be solely controlled by the government because sometimes there are fights they need to do that they wouldn’t necessarily be allowed to go to. B U T they do have to understand the effects of their often reckless actions. Yes they are saving the world but they could very well destroy it by not taking accountability for the damage they cause.

And okay civil war, like really? I just think it was forced and happened too fast, i know it can’t be like the comics always, but the civil war in the comics actually served a real purpose and in the mcu it was just like 12 people fighting in a parking lot ??

Also the villainization of tony is just … NO. like stop please. Tony makes mistakes, he does as everyone does and yes they are colossal ones too - i mean ultron for just one example. But he should not be seen as a villain for trying to protect the world. He saw infinity war coming a mile away and everybody was upset about it. Ultron was a disaster yes, but how is it that tony wasn’t pardoned when wanda and bucky were? I am not trying to say bucky shouldn’t be pardoned, because he was rightfully forgiven as he had no control over what hydra made him do, but wanda did … and she isn’t really apologizing or realizing the effects of some of her actions so … why is everyone pissed at tony??

And god okay i’m gonna be brief with mcu nat because ugh but just fuck scar jo and get her out of my sight, black widow deserves a solo movie with an actually talented actress who isn’t trying to steal minority roles alongside bucky barnes, i refuse to believe a black widow movie with no bucky could ever work

Guardians of the galaxy … jesus they did my babies dirty. Mcu peter quill … i don’t really like him and maybe it is because i’m not super fond of chris “i have a gun arsenal” pratt but tbh i just think they portray quill as a dick who can be misogynistic and a has a very delicate ego. His changed backstory was meh which i can live with but he is so fragile with his masculinity and it demeans gamora. I do like gamora and peter together but it would be so much better if he wasn’t always trying to be better than her or got offended anytime she was smarter or a better fighter than him (which is always sooo). Then mantis was done dirty she should not be some slave to a weird planet man ?? i think pom is a wonderful mantis but she was given crap to work with because mantis is a celestial being like an actual GODDESS  so why is she working for a planet ??? and drax ugh he is not an idiot like mcu portrays him i’m so bitter about that

I understand why scott lang was chosen to be ant man over hank pym i mean if paul rudd was going to be scott it makes perfect sense. Hank is also just … i don’t quite know how to describe hank other than controversial i guess but that’s another story, and scott would come off waaaaay better to audiences as ant man, the thing i am just so mad about is the fact that janet was practically erased from the avengers. I mean please don’t get me wrong i love hope van dyne and a young janet shouldn’t be falling in love with scott, but i just wish they could have at least included the REAL janet, not michelle pfiefer (no offense to michelle either because she’s doing great with what she’s given) being an old knock off janet, and not even like her own movie (which would be fucking fantastic though) but like janet gave so much of her life to the avengers and was a founding member. A FOUNDING MEMBER. And her purpose in the mcu was basically just to give hank manpain like whyyyyyyyyyy

And CLINT! God clint barton was screwed over, comics clint is amazing and is 80% deaf (he has a frickin hearing aid!!) and loves dogs and coffee and pizza and i could even handle jeremy renner being this version of clint, i don’t really have a problem with jeremy but i hate that marvel just made him be loki’s slave for awhile then just randomly give him a family AHA PUH LEASE MARVEL clint barton is a hoe (okay not really a hoe but he has been romantically involved with many of the super ladies) he would not have some secret family also with someone not in the same business as him, and also clint is a survivor of abuse and represents someone with a disability and mcu took all of that away from him ughhh

Okay and spider-man … i think smhc was a great movie and tom is so cute and pure and an amazing peter parker but … why? Like why were we given a THIRD peter parker when we could have fucking had miles morales ?! for those of you who don’t know miles morlaes, he is black and is spiderman in a different universe (the ultimate universe) and so i mean marvel come on if you’re going to put in a new spiderman why couldn’t it be miles? And i mean this with no offense to tom but i just wish we could’ve had a poc lead sooner and now we get into the spiderverse as the introduction to miles which also don’t get me wrong, i am very excited about that movie but to me it just seems like we won’t have a great shot at getting miles in the mcu if they do a series of new animated films about the spiderverse

And doctor strange ugh the whitewashing just ugh and then stephen too like idk benedict cumberbatch is an amazing actor but stephen was made so arrogantly in mcu and he comes off as this hotshot doctor who did it for money and to show off how amazing he is but he actually became a doctor because he witnessed his sister’s death and then soon after his mother died

And then the whitewashing of the ancient one jesusssss the ancient one is not some eccentric white woman, the ancient one is an asian man … i could even understand making the character a woman as the only other female character would be rachel mcadams’s character (she was so unimportant i don’t even know her name whoops) but do not take away the asian identity !!

And iron fist man … it just sucked, there’s really not much more to say

Then elektra fucking natchios was done SO DIRTY elodie yung is the absolute best elektra, i can’t imagine anyone else playing her and she did so well for the shit she was given but they decided to take a route that made her a sociopath ?? i mean i am okay with the changed backstory but elektra just doesn’t go around killing people for the fun of it like she does it because she has been through a lot and wants to take bad people out of the world like the ones that killed her father and yes maybe she is a little misguided and lost but still she doesn’t think killing people is a fun thing to do on a saturday night like why marvel ?? and just the black sky thing was weird … never a thing in the comics but whatever

And also okay … i love peggy carter and i loved hayley atwell being peggy but sharon is ultimately cap’s main love interest and is the main woman in all of cap’s storylines. And sharon was set up SO well but because stucky fans are ruthless sharon doesn’t even exist anymore and i’m so bitter about that, emily vancamp was a great agent 13 and marvel actually did a great job of bringing her into the universe in catws but look what happened, everyone forgot about her and are obsessed with peggy instead … which as i said, i’m not trying to diss peggy or hayley because i loved agent carter and her in catfa, but everyone decided sharon was nothing compared to peggy and i just don’t see why we can’t have both ??

Another thing … why vision? Like why the heck was vision put into the mcu it really doesn’t make sense to me i mean i think paul bettany is great but he just .. why this weird robot? i’m guessing to bring more in about the infinity stones but still idk because that didn’t really happen ??

And rhodey … poor poor rhodey, the casting change was actually a pretty good idea because i think don cheadle is the perfect rhodey (with no offense to terrence howard’s version, i just think don cheadle should’ve been there from the start) but they didn’t really introduce him into becoming war machine at all, they just gave him a suit and were like boom you’re a superhero now go be an avenger ?? with barely any development to why ?? i demand a war machine solo movie please, we all damn well know don cheadle would be great and ryan coogler should direct it, we’ll have no tony (no offense to tony just no more white men) and we’ll get sam in there and they will be a fucking badass team

And i am so bitter that it took 10 FUCKING YEARS to not have a white male lead a movie … marvel you have so many amazing characters of so many different ethnicities and backgrounds and genders and sexualities like why is carol only coming in now and why did black panther just become a huge movie?! should’ve been there from the start ugh

In my eyes, the only flawless mcu pieces that i would never bash are thor: ragnarok, and black panther (and maybe runaways because we finally got our first canon lgbtq couple) and catws if scar jo wasn’t in it. Marvel needs to realize the success of these films, that taika waititi and ryan coogler are the best directors they have and should be directing more films *cough cough* GUARDIANS 3 *cough*

So wow … that’s a lot and it’s a lot of bashing marvel but i just … if you don’t know shit about the comics the mcu seems amazing like i was there once i didn’t start reading comics until a few years ago when i heard about the young avengers and i have loved the movies since iron man came out ten years ago, but the mcu is very corrupting of a lot of the best parts of these characters, and a lot of people don’t realize that

Thanks for letting me rant and as i have said i really don’t mean to offend anyone who is a fan of the mcu or (most of) the actors of the mcu because they’re just doing their job, so please realize a lot of this is my opinion, i’m just expressing how i feel about marvel and for the record, i do love the mcu i just don’t like a lot of what goes on behind the scenes.

• here’s why,, the fast and the furious franchise,, no matter how many people say it’s horrible,,, was so crucial for me growing up because it was the only big movie coming out where the cast was all poc and one white person,,, where it was based in a sense where the family is perceived as latin,,, where the places looked just like puerto rico,, where spanish songs would fill the tracklist,,, it was representation,,, imagine how much different i’d be if i just watched movies with white leads

• the avengers was my introduction with superheroes,,, in a sense ??? it’s something me and my father have in common (besides me looking EXACTLY like him) and it brings me closer to him. it’s also a part of my nerd side and my interests in stories and imagination and how cool powers are shdjdjd,,, it plays into my creativity and honestly marvel is much better than dc in movies i had to include this

• to all the boys i’ve loved before is recent,,, but- it showed me that there’s really nothing wrong with being so in love with love and so innocent yet not innocent and scared yet daring,, lara jean is really just,, such a cute character who’s completely herself and so innocent with her intentions and so filled with pure love that,,, it shows me i can be like that too,, without people thinking i’m annoying / trying to be someone i’m not / fake

Daughter of Nyx.

Abilities:

-control over hope and expectation

-can temporarily project her consciousness to locations where hope is especially strong

-can blind opponents with hope which falters their attacks

Home: Pandora’s Box, sometimes goes to Tartarus to spend time with her family

Personality/Traits: If anyone is an optimist through and through it’s her! Elpis is very uplifting and inspirational. She’s a natural-born leader and always tries to be the boss when her siblings fight and you’re away taking care of business. She’s such a motivational speaker and highly driven. She does not give up easily.

Quote: “I, Elpis, the Spirit of Hope, would not abandon humanity. Hope does not leave without being given permission. I can only be released by a child of man,”

Tyler James Williams as Aether, God of Light:

Son of Nyx. He rules over light and the upper skies. A Protogenoi

Abilities:

-Unparalleled Aerokinesis: air/wind manipulation and pure air generation.

-Advanced Psychokinesis: flight, teleportation, and telekinesis

-Nephelokinesis: can control and create clouds

-Atmokinesis: can control the weather conditions

-Photokinesis: absolute control over light

Home: Tartarus during the night. Up in the clouds with Hemera during the day.

Personality/Traits: Believe it or not, for a God with a big responsibility, he is childish! He can be a bit obnoxious but loves having a good time. He has a bubbly personality just like Hemera, they might as well be twins tbh. He’s really sweet and tries to brighten everyone’s day, literally.

Quote: “I am Aether. The light and air God, who can in fact, be a true air head”

Cameron Boyce as Moros, God of Doom:

Son of Nyx. His twin sister is Akhyls.

Abilities:

-can project an illusion of one’s possible doom

-can bestow false doom on someone (making them run into minor/weird accidents)

-can induce feelings of depression and/or pessimism

-becomes stronger in the presence of depression, pessimism, and gloomy people

-able to see when someone’s doom is near

Home: Tartarus

Personality/Traits: He becomes really excited when in the presence of people who are gloomy or depressed. He loves playing with people’s minds and enjoys causing fear. He loves dark things and while his siblings often have a splash of some sort of color in their room he does NOT. He loves his stuff black and dark. He is an absolute sadist, whether it be with actual sex or just causing people mental and psychological pain.

Kyle Forde as Hypnos, God of Sleep:

Son of Nyx. Twin brother to Thanatos.

Abilities:

-Somnokinesis: the ability to manipulate and control sleep functions of one’s self or others (astral projection, dream manipulation, nightmare manipulation, ability to cause one to not be able to sleep, subconscious manipulation, sleep inducement etc)

-Memory Erasure

-Flight

-Shapeshifting

-Hypnosis

Home: Tartarus

Personality/Traits: He’s not a villain or immoral but he is irresponsible af. If you’re looking for him you will most likely catch him sleeping! And boy is he lazy as well as cowardly.

Brandon Mychal Smith as Momus, God of Satire, Blame and Mockery:

Son of Nyx.

Abilities:

-able to create a field of energy around one to make them feel an incredible amount of guilt, embarrassment and self-pity.

-can ridicule his opponent so bad it lowers their battling skills

-can mock his opponent attacks and alter it against their will.

-enpowered when someone around him is mocked or ridiculed

-can induce laughter in others

Home: mainly roams on Earth but sometimes Tartarus

Personalitys/Traits: Momus whines A LOT! He’s really funny though, like he can barely go a minute without cracking a joke or mocking someone. Always blaming other people but never takes the blame for himself

Lance Gross as Geras, God of Old Age:

Son of Nyx. Such a mama’s boy tbh

Abilities:

-Senescence: power to accelerate a persons age

-can age an opponent, slowing them down

-can curse one with senility for time

Home: Tartarus

Personality/Traits: He’s usually really serious and isn’t too fond of mortals. He likes to stay to himself. He hates Momus’ mockery and doesn’t find things funny really.

Quote: “I am darker still! I dim the eyes and addle the brain. Every mortal fears old age!”

Brian J. White as Thanatos, God of Peaceful Death:

Son of Nyx. Keres’ opposite. Twin brother to Hypnos.

FUN FACT!: Thanatology, the scientific study of death, was named after him, as well as Thanatophobia, the fear of death.

Abilities:

-Necromancy: has absolute control over death and the dead (can call the souls of the deceased forward to aide them)

-Can kill someone with just a touch

-Doors of Death Control: can easily pass between the world of the living and the dead. (He refers to the “Doors of Death” as “The Doors of Me”

-Flight: with his huge dark wings he can quickly glide through the air, this in turn helps him capture escaped souls.

-Invisibility: he uses this so he doesn’t have to reap souls directly, instead he does so invisible.

-Can drain the life-force of his opponent, making them weaker and slower

-can see anyone’s lifespan but is forbidden to share that with the person.

-Shadow Travel: anywhere that is dark (such as shadows) he can easily and quickly travel through them.

-Soul Splitting: can split his soul to make more than one of him

Home: the Underworld

Personality/Traits: Thanatos is obviously undiscriminating. He is quite morbid even though he is the God of Peaceful Death. He favors the idea of omnicide (human extinction, which plays a big role in the story obviously) He shares a mutual hate for the other Gods and Goddesses as well as mortals. He doesn’t like spending time with his family. He likes all things quiet and peaceful believe it or not. As the God of Death, he hates the idea of people losing their lives violently, which is why he absolutely despises his sister Keres.

Quote: “To the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure. The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at anytime.”
