RANPO IS MORE JEALOUS THAN POE.

There, I said it! Sure Poe is jealous but only of how many friends Ranpo had. Poe isn't nearly as possessive as any of you make him out to be. Look at Poe not giving two shits that Ranpo is hugging and tickling another man directly in front of him.

You know who is possessive? Ranpo. He threatens to "destroy the crux of the existence" of the first man Poe is interested in that isnt him. Mushitarou embarrasses Ranpo in front of his boyfriend and he takes it so hard he starts giving ✨️Fyodor Realness ™️✨️ (sjjdjdkdkd why is this canon). Arguably the most vicious he's been the whole series. It isn't just that the agency took a loss, they take losses all the damn time. If I had a dollar for every time someone in this series was a hair away from death I COULD BUY EVERY VOLUME OF THIS MANGA (and a few light novels).

And when another man is living for days in Poe's mansion (the horror)

Ranpo gives Poe MEANINGFUL gifts and PRAISE IN FRONT OF MUSHITAROU.

No! You don't understand, Ranpo answered in an interview he would never give anyone gifts because he doesn't need to or want to.

He gave Poe gifts he KNEW would mean a lot to him and absolutely nothing to Mushi literally just to prove a point. the point that they are wayyy closer and Mushi could never compare. Poe has done so much more for much less, candy was unnecessary for ANYYYY other reason. It's giving jealous wife, it is sounding a lot like, "You may be currently living in his house but I am his everything."

Personally I like the idea that Ranpo and Poe are both privately snarling at Mushitarou in a jealous rage and he's like, "I don't want him! YOU CAN KEEP HIM! YOU CAN KEEP EACH OTHER!"

like yeah maybe tlj would have been subversive or whatever if finn and poe had been completely different characters. and also white men. but finn and poe already WERE subverting what was typical of star wars (and like pop culture in general) by being men of color in these hero roles. like okay a han solo type getting too confident and fucking up and learning he was wrong WOULD be flipping our expectations but poe never WAS a han solo type, at least not in the way tlj/rian johnson framed him to be.

it is just so clear that rian johnson had this idea in his head for a ~different/unexpected/whatever~ take on star wars but he had to force every single existing character into a new shape to fit what they needed to be for his story with NO regard for who they already were and absolutely no care for how he was stereotyping, demonizing, and humiliating men of color in order to fit his ~vision~

ranpo gets carsick very easily and it takes him quite some time to recover from it but he absolutely refuses to put down that book bc “i’m bored ed. you’re driving sooooo slowly.”

“but ranpo-san it’s not my fault. the speed limit is very low.”

and ranpo will scoff and whine and maybe even throw a small tantrum about the “stupid speed limits. stupid road. stupid laws. why can’t we just teleport like that mykola/nikolai guy does” but will definitely refuse to close the book and now they have to pull over bc ranpo has to throw up (spoilers: he probably can’t)

(i also hc that since he eats LOTS of snacks, his body is very used to nauseas so he just… can’t throw up anymore)

and poe knows he can’t throw up but he still pulls over every single time and holds ranpo’s hair very fucking patiently while he tries to throw up like an angry child

and maybe at some point, ranpo thinks poe might get annoyed bc poe can be squeamish (is this the right word???) but actually poe doesn’t mind it that much bc it’s ranpo. it’s not his fault. it’s just his body being a bitch.
