i just had one of the luckiest battles I've ever seen. With a Rattata. For context, I'm trying to beat all the master trainers in my Pokemon Let's Go Eevee save file. The ratatta I'm using isn't level 100 (close, it was 91 i believe). Most of my strategy, as with most master trainers, is to use toxic, but I also had facade for the other trainer's rattata that had thunder wave.
Turn one happens and I exchange a toxic for a thunder wave. Annoying, but I knew i would be dealing with paralysis. I attempt to use substitute on the following turn but the enemy is faster and hits a headbutt into my -def hasty rattata. My rattata survives from a low damage roll (which I later found out was a 6.2% chance) and I am unable to get the substitute up. I think that it's the end right then and there, because I'm paralyzed, do not outspeed, and would need to hit several protects in a row to wait for the toxic poison to kill the other rattata.
My rattata, sensing my panic, uses the power of friendship to break through paralysis so it's no longer an issue (20% chance). I have a small flicker of hope but know that the enemy is still too healthy, even after I protect once from a headbutt. Protect has a 50% chance of working and i would need to get it twice. I click protect. By some miracle protect goes off and guards against another headbutt. I look at this rattata, as if to say "You don't have to do this, soldier. The battle's over. You can give up."
My rattata sees this. Sees how I tell it that it doesn't need to be a hero. That I can just try the battle over again. But something refused to give. Was this to demonstrate that he was the most powerful? Was this an act of defiance as defeat held him in its crushing jaws? Was this rattata trying to prove something? Whatever this was, this wasn't the place for him to die.
I click Facade expecting the other rattata to outspeed and end the showdown. But my rat is faster. Facade connects. But the enemy has invested stats in defense, so even if I do outspeed, which was something that could have never been done without the paralysis being broken through by sheer willpower, it would be in vain because the enemy would survive my blow. I would lose either way. I watch the hp bar slowly go down from its place in the yellow to red, and then to empty. EMPTY.
By some miracle the toxic poison put it in the range to be taken out with facade. And I won.
I checked the odds after the battle. I'm not the best at math so you can call me out if I'm wrong, but the 6.2% chance for a low damage roll from the enemy, followed with a 20% chance of status being broken through with the friendship mechanic, and a 50% chance of protect working twice in a row results in a 0.62% chance of recreating the events that happened in that battle. Joey would be proud of this rattata. Truly in the top 1% of rattatas.

My personal theory as to why Ash's Pikachu won't evolve is because he knows he's an abnormal sort of Pikachu, as implied by Team Rocket early on in the show, and also implied by Ash's Pikachu pulling off certain moves and feats no other Pikachu could ever do. Something to do with his genetics or something, I don't know. Anyway, if he were to evolve, his abnormalities would be cancelled out, and he'd be a regular Raichu instead of being an abnormally strong Pikachu. It'd actually be a DOWNgrade instead of an UPgrade. I also think the Pikachu and the Eevee from the Let's Go games are the same way.
I like that headcanon better than Pikachu's idiotic sense of pride…
And this might just be me, but I also think Pikachu's abnormalities are also the reason his Level seems to reset after certain major events (at the start of every region or after the end of every region). Pikachu's Level resetting is the tradeoff for his immense power.

I do have to say, despite being a game that I didn't really care about, LPGE did have some great presentation. (I'd say it was our nicest-looking game on the Switch up until Legends or SV.) I feel like I was a bit overly harsh towards it when it was coming out.
I loved the updated character and Gym interior designs, the Legendary cutscenes were really cool, it had the best following Pokemon (later games just didn't handle that aspect as well), it was really cute how you could style your partner Pokemon, and I really enjoyed them adding characters like Archer, Green, and Mina for more seasoned players. It felt like it had a good amount of charm to it, and an effort to make it feel like a different experience (aside from the GO mechanics).

I found out Giovanni has a persian painting and IMMEDIATELY recognized it as a play on Ingres' Grande Odalisque which is a painting of what is highly debated between being either a Turkish or Persian woman.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He has a painting of a Persian based on a painting of a Persian.
*quick art history side note that the debate isn't about her origins, the painting is intended to be depicting a Turkish woman but the Persian Empire did include the part of Turkey she is supposed to be from and the debate is about whether its supposed to aesthetically be strictly 1800s Turkey or if its intended to allude to the aesthetics European artists at the time used to depict the Persian Empire

Do you have like a list of all of your ‘cross generation interactions’ that you’ve thought of or made?
The wordings hard but like how you headcanon Drayton to have a crush on Raihan, do you have more stuff like that cause it’s some of my favorite things
I scoured my posts and put everything I've posted so far here!
Kieran and Emmet know each other. They're sort of friends? It's complicated.
Sonia has admired Professor Juniper's work for a long time. When Juniper reached out to Sonia to ask about her own research, Sonia almost passed out.
For their honeymoon, Lenora and her husband went to Lumiose City. After effectively taking over for a tour guide at the Lumiose Museum, they tried to hire her on the spot.
Grusha and Brycen are pen-pals.
During that party where Nemona met Lacey and challenged Clay, he actually did battle her. After she beat him, he mailed her his gym badge.
A lot of Clay's family still lives in Sinnoh, so he visits frequently. He loves the Sinnoh Underground and knows Roark and Bryon well.
Gladion and Professor Juniper got in contact to discuss the similarities between type: null and genesect. She dragged N into it and the two of them were pretty vital to helping Gladion figure out what to do with Aether Paradise after the mess Lusamine left it in. Gladion really looks up to them both.
The Aether Foundation funds a lot of research into studying artificially created pokemon like genesect. Since genesect are too aggressive for most trainers to handle and too dangerous to be left on their own, quite a few of them have been rehabilitated at Aether Paradise.
N has befriended quite a few ultra beasts who can't return home through Gladion and Aether Paradise.
Brycen met Diantha before she became champion through their acting careers. She once fifted him an amaura egg.
Piers is a fan of Roxie's music.
Colress went to Area Zero and met the AI professor before the time machine was shut down. He pocketed a few paradox pokemon for his troubles.
Lenora treated Cynthia to a battle and a private tour of her museum when she visited Unova in BW1 and the two had a giant nerd fest together. Steven made Cynthia promise to bring him to meet Lenora next time she visited- and she did, during the Pokemon World Tournament.
Bianca once tried to study the Abyssal Ruins, but after realizing something was down there with her she decided some things are better left alone. The stranger with a togekiss who was a little too interested in the plates Bianca had found also didn't help.
Juliana, Florian, and Kieran went to Nimbassa City on a BBA League Club fieldtrip to the Gear Station Battle Subway. After they had to leave early due to Crispin's motion sickness, they spent the rest of the day dressing up their pokemon in the Musical Theater. This was all three's first time in Unova.
Virizion felt sorry for Iron Leaves for being ripped away from their world by a human's folly, and more or less adopted them into the Swords of Justice. Keldeo was excited to have an underclassman. They parted on incredibly good terms after encountering Iron Boulder and Iron Crown, where Iron Leaves decided to go with them.
Professor Rowan wants to strangle Professor Oark with a coat hanger, a sentiment he is completely oblivious to.
Fantina's father is from Kalos but she has never actually been there herself.
Barry and Nate are exes.
After Cogita was released from her curse and eventually died, Enamorus went to Galar with Professor Laventon where she cycles through human disguises. She's currently living as Opal.
Gladion wears a Piers t-shirt under his hoodie.
Nemona owns a poster of Red and Blue used to promote the Alola Battle Tree.
Penny religously read Lillie's "my mom sold me to Champion Cynthia" fics.
Drayton skips class to read Riahan x reader rpf.
Hau was a huge fan of Champion Rei (transmasc Dawn) before he dissappeared, and still is even after the fact.
Drayton caught his duraladon while travelling to Galar for a Pokemon World Tournament held in the region.
Penny and Marnie are t4t e-girlfriends.
Florian was injured by Eternatus during the SwSh endgame.
Aaand a few more for you!
Maxie and Archie have an ex-evil team support group. N, Anthea, and Concordia are part of it. Clavell got in contact with them over Team Star.
Cynthia and Steven are extremely tight. Complete ride or die. Cynthia was the best man at Steven and Wallace's wedding.
Nanu has arrested Grimsley twice.
Mina met Burgh on a trip to Unova, and they still keep in contact. Burgh makes Mina send him pictures of Totem Ribombee.
When Reshiram was travelling the world with N, Hilda, and Hilbert, Reshiram became kind of universally hated by almost every legendary he met.
Ethan was attacked by Mewtwo as a kid. Red and Leaf were there.
Professor Rowan once took Lucas on a research trip to Hoenn where they studied with Professor Birch.
Gloria and Hop's families went on a vacation to Alola together.
After SwSh, Gloria begins attending Uva/Narajna Academy.
Tulip and Elesa have worked together before.
Kieran is a gigantic Iris fanboy.
Bede and Penny had a giant feud and dramatic friend breakup over Tumblr. No mutual was safe from the fallout.
The battle facility leaders have a pretty tight-knit community.
AZ visited Cogita on occasion.

After actually playing Let's Go Eevee, I think people should apologize to this game. Is it perfect? No. Is the limitation on solely the original 151 plus Alolan forms and Meltan + Melmetal frustrating, as well as the fact that once you export Pokémon to another game they can never return? Yes, it is.
But this game is cute and whimsical! And has the best walking system for Pokémon in the entire series. Every single species stays within close range of the protagonist and isn't left behind. That's important to me. AND this is not limited to the Pokémon in the lead - you can CHOOSE which one is out and about!
Why? Why can we not choose in SwSh or SV, games which were released after LGPE??

The Let's Go games are so cute that it almost makes you forget that you're running around in someone else's body and lying about your identity to their best friend wherever you go
(Granted you didn't MEAN to hijack this random kid's life but I have serious questions about the Pikachu/Eevee that dragged you here. Why can they travel through dimensions via television. What made them choose you. Are they secretly the real gods of their world)

Pokeshipping Week 2023
Day 1: First Date
I'll be honest, I'm actually still working on the themes even as I post this. 😅 Can't really explain why, but just letting everyone know that any tardiness on my part is something I take full accountability for. Forgive me!
First date is to an amusement park~! But whoops, looks like someone lost balance! Hopefully there's a first aid kit in that backpack of his, otherwise Ash will be dealing with a pretty bad sting~

Okay so now the count of Obviously Isekai Pokemon games is up to 3:
Pokemon Mystery Dungeons - the entire series is counting as one for this because it's one of THE biggest parts of the plot. Because you, a human, from a world of humans, wake up as a Pokemon in a world where humans are myth. (If we ignore secondary versions and remakes, this still makes about 5 titles alone and yes that includes the JP-only ones.)
Pokemon Legends Arceus - while it could be read as simply time travel, the dialogue options and the opening can suggest that you are a normal human from a normal world where Pokemon is a fictional setting. Because honestly, that phone looks like normal real world tech not some weird Pokeworld tech.
Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee - yes the intro could be a dream sequence where the starter hops out of the tv and then lures you in like you're Alice through the Looking Glass, but then after your character stares at his/her hands in disbelief before being called out by the Rival for acting weird.
(If we count NPCs then this would include Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire where a character from a different Pokemon game gets yeeted into the ORAS timeline, and of course there's PLA with a certain choo choo trainer but PLA isn't clear on if its alt timeline or time travel but either way PLA already has the PC.)
