Maths, Gender, And a Number Bigger than the distance to Kepler 22-B
heads up this is loooong
so i was thinking about xenopronouns (pronouns which are impossible for humans to pronounce, mostly used by therians and otherkin. eg. a pronoun that is a lion's roar, bird chirp, or alien language, etc.) while trying to fall asleep. well, i thought, couldn't an example of a xenopronoun be a normal pronoun set, like she/her, but with a different coloured font? well. i got to thinking. how many colours are there? well it depends on what format you use. an RGB colour has 255 ✕ 255 ✕ 255 colours. that comes out to 16,581,375 different colours. HSV on the other hand, has 3,600,000 different colours (360 ✕ 100 ✕ 100). but why stop there? underlines! bold! italics! the possibilities are (almost) endless! (btw im gonna stick with the rgb colour list, because it's a bigger number and i, an idle game player, find that cool) well. im just going to stick with the stock word formatting options (bold, italics, underline, strikethrough, subscript, and superscript). all of these options can be toggled all together, with the exception of superscript and subscript. now. how do we calculate that? well we take how many options there are (8, not counting the subscript and superscript (we'll get to that)) and multiply that by our number of colours. this gives us 132,651,000. we quickly multiply that by 3, to get our full total formats. 397,953,000. now i could say something sappy about how there are infinite combinations of letters, to make infinite pronouns, but that's boring in my opinion. so. there are 149,186 unicode characters (in the current version). sure, not all of them can be made into bold, or some don't have italics. who cares? they still have the italics information. or the bold information. you get the point. well. we take our amount of format options, and multiply that by the amount of unicode characters. 59,369,016,258,000. fifty nine trillion, three hundred and sixty nine billion, sixteen million, two hundred and fifty eight thousand different combinations. now. to make these into pronoun sets. to make this easier for myself, im gonna cap the maximum length of one of these at 7 characters, and the minimum at 1 (invisible characters are cool, like U+2064 or U+2063, for example). each set will be in the format of "she/her/hers", so that means each of the sets will be between 3 and 21 characters long (forward slashes are excluded). i wasn't sure how to do this with a calculator, so i did it by hand. or at least, i was going to. then i realized "wait the way im doing this is shit, and i could very easily have calculated this like the way you calculate how many different states a combo lock has. 343 different combinations of characters. we multiply that by the amount of characters we have, and boom. the total amount of robot pronouns. 20,363,572,576,494,000. twenty quadrillion, three hundred and sixty three trillion, five hundred and seventy two billion, five hundred and seventy six million, four hundred and ninety four thousand. now. most of these will be unintelligible messes of characters in different colours.
i may as well repeat the final number that i got. 20,363,572,576,494,000. think about that. if you want to put that into perspective, there are approximately 100,000,000,000 stars in the milky way galaxy (at a lowball. it goes up to around 400,000,000,000). or, 3,154,000,000 seconds in a century. (im gonna put these numbers up next to each other at the end of this, under the cut, just to help you look at them.
(up to date (as of writing)) (most of these are approximates btw) (distances are in kilometres)
"Pronouns": 20,363,572,576,494,000 Kepler 22-B's Distance: 6,055,000,000,000,000 Distance of All Human Veins: 772,485,120,000,000 Cells in the Body: 30,000,000,000,000 Elon Musk's Net Worth: 205,200,000,000 Stars in the Milky Way: 100,000,000,000 Baby Shark's Views: 14,118,385,910 Earth's Population: 8,100,000,000 Seconds in a Century: 3,154,000,000 Listens my Friend has to Sum 41: 18,306
if this looks like shit... lmao? i guess. it was formatted for web view. idk how it looks on mobile, don't care to check. (Yes i did put elon musk there because i hate him and want to point out how fucking rich he is and i think that we should kill him) (yes i did put my friend's Sum 41 scrobbles there to make fun of him)

i feel like when making megamix they couldn't decide if they wanted it to be for people who already like rhythm heaven or people who are new to it. like. the fact that it's mostly returning games suggests the former. but the existence of prequels suggests the latter. baffling to me-

martin o'donnell panel notes (he broke down the Halo CE theme with a music analysis youtuber 12Tone)
was for mac showcase
no audio engine - had to play it in sync manually via audio
knew they wanted orchestra + singing
orchestra: 4 violin 2 cello
vocals: him + 3 guys who did mr clean jingle
backing tracks (percussion etc) were samples
they wanted gregorian/ancient from the start
the start hook-y melody decision (the chant):
4 phrases inspired by....... yesterday paul mccartney.... in dorian scale
dorian scale recap: just the minor scale except a raised 6th (lowkey removes the somber darkness and makes it more ambiguous towards excitement(?))
q: why?
a: atmosphere for halo - ancient+epic+mysterious
he friends with koji kondo and other composers
most music was platform dependent back then (understandable, 8bit and other restrictions) - he didn't like those limitations so mostly jumped in when Halo / Mac / late 90s music could be more like Film
big cello fan
*deserved
Halo CE theme breakdown:
Vibe - ancient+epic+mysterious obv but then
check it out - it was NOT really a fully fledged idea intentionally at first, not even meant to be THE Halo theme - originally it was just a Showcase piece for the Mac World. Funny how that works out!!!!
master chief was originally Future Soldier (more of a hero unit back when the game was a 3rd person strategy one) before he was actually a character
Original Game Goal was Seamless World (1999 pretty insane to think abt - even tho it is more common now [with BotW and RDR2])
original request - 2 or 3 minutes LOL (they didn't know what the demo length was gonna be). So he writes a 3 minute track that has smushiness at the start and back so that nothing is missing (yeah the melody is Slow like that)
Showcase ended up being 3 minutes, good. The structure might not have been that [vague] / smushy if he worked more directly with the demo's sequencing and length.
epic stuff had to be more upbeat - the higher pace one was lowkey irish jig themed
Panelist / Audience vibe that we received from Halo theme: kind of Lonely? Solitude / "ozymandias" style.
before focusing on Future Soldier - the alien planet that he was being chased in and getting into the Warthog, turned out that way
great things abt art -> a lot of meaning is emergent (not originally intended) but that doesn't mean that it CAN'T add depth
he personally conducted the chanting - gregorian chanting is monks in cathedral w/ reverb so no strict meter or tempo for what happens. bravado (vince) - give and take
surprised cat face "halo is a religious game" SO TRUE
Drums Breakdown:
- tone being low register - low DUKUKUKUD DUKUDUNKUN drums
- choice reasoning: "I thought they would be cool"
- rhythm: panelist relates it to america west side story drums
- compound rhythms (instead of splitting it to duples (2), split it into 3, but then overlay the 2 on that end of the measure)
- "polyrhythmic"
- first time it was written; first music was 4:4 with triplets
- then 12:8 and conducted in 4
- (sorry don't remember my high school music classes that much)
Strings Breakdown:
- dun dun dun DUNNN
- melodic structure is "simple," just starts low and goes high
- [kinda reminds me of Megalovania except that one walks down]
- "this makes a great metal piece if you've heard people do covers of it"
- (um YEAH MJOLNIR COVER⁉️)
- in college he did a paper on the inventor of leitmotif - symphany fantastique (referencing his enamored with)
- the melody for that song was complex
- you can't develop with a complicated leitmotif
- Harold in Italy - this next piece was short and could be developed
- "the effect of melody is something that gets in your head and stays in there" (easier to hook audience in)
- [like Megalovania]
- strings keep the compound meter that the drums introduced
- to get the drive and aggression and thrust (pause?) - he wrote the cellos to do the OCTIVE Jump and go back and forth. he wanted to hear the ROSIN
- not classical string playing method... When some people read the music they split the cellos! even though it's supposed to jump on the SAME cello. That's WIPPY
- sloppy in a good way (pause⁉️)
- [but yeah it's very human I agree and that makes the piece IT]
- next string line - the backing whole high notes violins crescendoing
- it's the same walk from E to A but then IT KEEPS GOING
- low cello - minor (not dorian) but then the high strings are back to dorian i.e. that one note C#
- gregorian usually not dorian(?)
- mo likes ambiguous scales - dorian scale and the likes are not so explicitly "minor is sad, major is happy"
- enjoys writing to stick specifically to a scale that gives you chords that are non common in contemporary music
- bringing dorian to the high strings after cello is basically a "we're so back" measure.
- he likes that it's a minor key with major subdominant and a minor dominant
- rock and roll influence
- snsnss
- second string phrase
- full sending irish jig - sea shanty vibe
- halo was a damn water level this whole time??
- tidbit: master chief is the highest noncommissioned role you could reach
-
vocals
- the high backing vocals are less gregorian but more wailing
- "idk why, but thought it would be more mysterious and alien to have gregoian monks and then adding arabic wailing"
- he asked if one of the singers could do that kind of chanting - this was the last thing recorded for the theme
- martin tried doing it and he was the one who actually kept it in
- he brought them two versions - wailing vs no wailing (bungie loved the wailing one) (martin was embarrassed because it was his high voice)
- [kind of like how megalovania has that countermelody near the end of the song]
rest of the song:
- the UPDOWN violins with no percussion
- harmony
- starts E Dorian then rhythm stop - the string melody is in G minor woah
- panelist: "why a weird chord"
- martin: "I don't know"
- audience: *claps*
- *he just wanted to move off the E
- since we weren't even in E minor in the first place, moving to G minor it's WOAH
last last segment
- looked at the parallel 4ths "dundundun dun"
- inner voice goes down a step, next voice goes up a step
- oblique and countering motion (this is starting to go over my head) makes cool chords as a result of changing the motion of the notes itself
- MUSIC........
- halo 2 OST takes influence from this kind of motion
- basically taking his piano playing style to cello / strings players and forcing motion, making them sweat
- diminution of original theme - it's two bars per thing but then it removes the second sustained bar (more energetic)
takeaways - sometimes your goat just does it
woke takeaways - only very slightly critical abt using gregorian/arabic chants just to add to the Uniqueness / "alien" feel even tho those are just like. Other People. (but it's so far detached and not meant to be a direct correlation, does it even count?)

So this blog is probably going to be just a bunch of barely-lucid ravings while I try to learn Unity. Should I call this a dev log? Is that the professional thing to do? Idk. I'm learning Unity. Making a guitar hero type thing where you practice polyrhythms. It's basically an excuse to learn fmod, but it's good Unity practice too. I have the base game working and a shell of a main menu. Still to do:
finish menu and flesh out options
make audio and hook it up through fmod
make actual sprites instead of default Unity UI elements and shapes
Well, here we go...

back on the worshiping bravely default's soundtrack wagon, i do think it's really impressive how it manages to keep the old-school (4 main track pieces: melody/harmony/bass/percussion, chorus/bridge/chorus) videogame composition structure while composing tracks at far longer lengths.
a lot of video game music that doesn't hit as hard gets the pitfall of multi-harmony, which is excellent for easy listening, but can distract from action in some cases, and differing song structure which doesn't allow the song to feel "complete" unless you listen to it for a very long time. a videogame track taking 2-3 minutes to build up is absolutely outlandish unless it's literally the final boss track, and sometimes even then; you just won't be listening to it that long even if it's environmental music.
i think a lot about videogame music composition because it is a fairly unique genre type (maybe less so if you listen to a lot of jrock, though) that gained a lot of its defining features from the limitations of early systems (track limitation, memory limitation). and a lot of those features are excellent at immersing you in a game, which is the main function of VG music (it's of course excellent if it's also good to listen to outside of it, which bravely rocks, but it's not the main function).
idk i think that i was disappointed by a lot of VG music in the early-mid 10s with the rise of full orchestration before the realization that just fully orchestrating something doesn't recapture the mood, but in the current era, a lot of games are managing to recapture the traits that make vg music unique which i just think is neat.
of note is that i'm not a music theorist, just a normal classical musician, so i don't really know the correct terms other than man a lot of games have polyrhythm huh

album review; perfume's game
☆ 7.6/10
♡ released in april 2008
♡ j-pop
Finally, some good music! I’ve always been a fan of the (very) few perfume songs I’ve heard, and I’m so happy to say that their albums definitely don’t stray away from that notion either. As the first album I’ve heard from Perfume, not only did it match my expectations, but exceeded them in a way I didn’t think possible. My only “annoyance” is some of the songs dragged on just a biiiiiiit too long for my tastes, but with such outstanding music, I can let it slide.
A song by song review can be found underneath the cut. My favorite track is Butterfly. My least favorite tracks are Polyrhythm, Macaroni, Twinkle Snow Powdery Snow, and Puppy Love.
Polyrhythm -> 6/10
Plastic Smile -> 8/10
Game -> 8/10
Baby Cruising Love -> 7/10
Chocolate Disco -> 8/10
Macaroni -> 6/10
Ceramic Girl -> 7/10
Take Me Take Me -> 9.5/10
Secret Secret -> 8/10
Butterfly -> 10/10
Twinkle Snow Powdery Snow -> 6/10
Puppy Love -> 6/10

hi, i trust y'all've been well? we've been busy but we do have all halloween off of work. y'all's recommendations were stellar as always, runs in the family is one of those means-a-lot-to-everyone sorts of songs for us it's in a lot of our playlists. i have never heard sin shake sin before but the song eddie suggested sounds like something i should already have memorized, it's very good.
my suggestions for this evening are: wriggle by clipping. and worldwide torture by jazmin bean for billy, becky by be your own pet for steve (it reminds me of the shit that went down between you and hagan), you'll end up looking like the scary bitches by the scary bitches for eddie, my nocturnal serenade by yohio for kaz, redmageddon by sodikken for will, and my mom by kimya dawson for your jonathan (ik y'all've prolly heard it before but i've been in my feelings about 1981 lately and this is a song that Gets it).
dr. crane recommends gorehound by harley poe for poe.
Hello hello!!! We've been,, Eehhh. *gestures vaguely*. Okay I suppose. ZhfjzfjsHFJDJD. mental illness innit </3 HowEVER! ultimately we'll be just fine!!
Y'all deserve tht break off tbh we hope Halloween goes well for y'all!! omg!!
And!! Your recs are also absolutely wonderful as always!!! Very Very A+ Choices this time around!!,, tho yr choices are always A+ let's be real JFJDJDJJFFJ
semi related but Redmageddon sounds like something our Collector would also super enjoy omg,, we. Need to sit down and bingewatch T.OH sometime soon now that the final season is out (or. almost out?? @ sys check on that jfc JFJDJSJ) -Eddie
Here's our recs!!:
Celebrity Skin - Hole (my rec!!)
TOP TEN SONGS that give me gender euphoria. Cannot explain how. I think it's synesthesia related but i honestly don't knoe I just Really like the sound and colours of this song HFJSISKFKFK -Eddie
Pro Memoria - Ghost (Kaz's rec)
Another song that's ended up on many of our playlists, from what I'm seeing. We collectively quite like this band, especially their more quieter songs.
I don't quite have a Music Taste yet, but songs like this are definitely Good in my opinion! -Kaz
Attunement - Clipping. (Billy's rec)
oooookayyyy suicidal ideation tw for this one hdiaiskf
but uh!!!!! Clipping. holy shit!!!!!! we don't listen to them often but when we do we tend to listen to nothing else for a LoNG WHILE FJDJKF their songs are all so. Stimmy in a way!! Love love LOVE the way the lyrics r sung always tbh
especially with this song!! Really really fast which we love but the ambient noise in the background is also. Brain Scratchy! Polyrhythmic music in general is so brain scratchy JFJSJF -Billy
Spaceship - Art Sorority (Jonathan's rec)
This one's also a song that like,,, just Gets It, imo. Upbeat but kinda sad lyrics?? sign me tf up lmao. -Jonathan
The Song With Five Names - Will Wood, AND Miss Lucy Had Some Leeches - Emilie Autumn (Will's recs)
WAIT WE'RE ALLOWED TO RECC MORE THAN ONE SONG??????????? WHAT A GAME CHANGER! /LIGHTHEARTED
I've been driving everyone insane (word reclaimed!!) with The Song With Five Names™ and I dare say that it's My Capital S Song™ (a fuckin,, system thing basically uhhh if someone here has a Song™ it's basically like. super super SUPER important to them and tells others in-sys who they Are rlly. tl;dr just a Super Fcukifn Relatable Song X 10000000)
as for my second rec?? literally just me vibes tbh. sound-wise i mean. Ajdjkakfkf -Will
Voices - Shaman's Harvest (Both Steves' recs)
Okay I chose this one because of the beat and how it Sounds while younger Steve moreso chose it because of the Lyrics. overall a really good song tbh! -Steve🧋
Water Fountain - Tune Yards (Poe's rec)
eheeheeheee. Perhaps not quite yours or Dr. Crane's type of Music Of Choice? sorry in advance, but! We recently Remembered This Band Existed and Remembered THIS SONG Existed! And I! Am Quite Happy!
It is very! Colourful and tasty—very much our synesthesia talking there, yes. Also gives good Brain Scratchies too! -Poe

I went with the tincture instead of smoking tonight. 4 drops. I don't know how much that is, honestly, the woman at the dispensary told me to do like 3-4 drops to start and so far I was doing like 2 and I haven't been feeling it. I did smoke earlier though, a lot, and played Session for a bit. I'm really enjoying it. It reminds me a lot of skating. Not just like... fantasy skating like Skate 3, where you do crazy tricks and go 100 mph... I can actually kinda replicate my current skate style. The speed I go, the tricks I can do, etc. Though the ingame character pops higher and rotates cleaner than I do.
It occurred to me a few tricks in that I should be recording. See, the game doesn't have a built-in clipping system. It has a sick in-game editor, with keyframing and different lenses and free cams and follow cams, manual cams, filters, camera wiggle, you name it. But I noticed last night that it didn't have an export feature... and my clips weren't being saved... So I lost all of last nights bank-to-ledge stall clips. But I fired up OBS and decided "fuck it" and recorded like 2+ hours of skating. I was thinking... dude, i should just share my entire raw session... of Session. Like, the entire unedited "stream", but in YouTube video form. Because I was still very anxious last night and I'm still VERY anxious about being high around other people, especially when being recorded. Still friction from unresolved trauma, that I'm still waiting for someone suitable to be there to help me practice so I don't have to dive into the deep end. This is good practice, but it's just not the same, honestly. So I didn't stream, I'm just not confident enough quite yet. But I did record. About halfway through, I realized that the music that was recording... while I really did enjoy it and it did come with the game... was going to get my video muted, or worse. I got frustrated. Then I switched the music over to my brothers stuff and recorded another hour and 15 minutes.
But at a certain point, the music just kinda... rubbed me the wrong way. It's obviously not bad, he's got talent. It just felt... dark. I wanted a more chill vibe and the vibe of the album I was listening to was very tense, frenetic and abrasive. Not that it's a bad thing, it was likely very intentional. But it rubbed my fur against the grain and I kinda wrapped it up there, because I didn't have other music to listen to. Honestly, after going through that experience, I would say that's a hallmark of a very successful song. High praise. I mean that genuinely. Isn't the point of music to elicit a strong reaction? And the mood chosen was tension, rough textures and dissonance? That's like... the anti-soothing. And I was seeking soothing and round wet basses and triplet polyrhythms. So we kinda butt heads at the end, but that's how it goes when you have limited options.
I think next time I'm going to reroute my browser audio to a different track and record that way, try to just record game audio. I still want the board sounds and all that, otherwise I'd just overdub.
Anyway, the idea with it was that I could do skate progression videos on youtube and instagram with skateboarding, snowskating and Session. As I learn new tricks in real life, I can learn them in Session... and vice versa? I'm sure it's easier to learn in the game because the pain factor is sorta brought out of the picture, but cross-pollinating creative inspiration there seems like a great idea all around. And the concept of progression and personal growth through skating has always been a theme I really want to put at the forefront. The resilience, persistence and confidence skating requires really does make skaters a unique breed. I need to stop making excuses not to skate. And I also need to not be so hard on myself, so... which do I do first? XD
I went to the doctors today. Finally. I have a skin problem, apparently it's a bacterial infection that's been recurring constantly for just shy of a year. Ever since I quit smoking cigarettes, like within two weeks of then. They prescribed me two antibiotics - topical and ingested. He told me I should see a dramatic improvement in 4-5 days, if I don't to call him. He rushed me out. But I mean, it was the end of the day in an Urgent Care, so I tried not to take it too personally. I had a mini-freakout later about the antibiotics - anxiety, a little panic. "What if the antibiotics wipe out my gut biome?" "What if they fuck up my immune system?" "If I got this bacterial infection from an environmental source, like my rotting roof or something, what's stopping it from coming right back? Or me becoming vulnerable to something else when my immune system rebounds?"
I used to have much more blind faith in doctors. Until they really fucked me over. Several times. False diagnosis with Epilepsy, had me on meds for I think close to a year for a neurological condition I didn't have. False diagnosis with Crohn's Disease, had me go in for an unnecessary colonoscopy at age 32. False diagnosis with Compartment Syndrome in an ER had nurses swarming in to prep me for either exploratory surgery to try to free the clot manually, or amputate my right leg at the knee - my choice.
I was wrestling with the idea. Like the choice of putting my life in danger, and I have to pull the trigger myself. Of course I don't want that. Of course I want more time to work on art and music and try to connect with people, and to love and live and learn! Who would care for my beautiful Maxine? I think that's what people call "catastrophizing"... Durr... It's not like taking a mega dose of antibiotics one time for a few days is going to outright kill me. Right?
Then I went to earlier this year. When I put my dog on an antibiotic regimen for a bit to get rid of Lyme. And then just a few months later, she just... wouldn't eat a banana, one of her favorite snacks. And collapsed on my spare mattress in my room. And within 24 hours she was dead. I'm crying. I miss her so much. This grief is still very raw, I don't want it to subside. I want it to stay, because it's a reflection of my love for her. How much she meant to me. We were literally inseparable.
So maybe it brought that back up. Maybe I PTSD'd out there because I have very strong emotions, and that was the strongest bond I have ever experienced. And reconnecting with something tangentially associated with her (antibiotics), and then having my brain connect that to (sudden unexpected death) just made it a very visceral emotional connection to my experience to her. Maybe that's what happened there.
Here's my work. If anyone wants to fucking get on my ass about "not having a job" or whatever... THIS is my work. I explore the human psyche, from within the human psyche, and identify why the fuck we do what we do. At very least why I do what I do. I mean, that's really all you can do with any sense of certainty, right?
Weird how so many therapists and psychology professors I have encountered in my life are so utterly oblivious of their own thoughts, habits and shortcomings. Likely because they've spent their whole life scrutinizing the habits and behaviors of others. Looking outwards like aliens landing on a new planet and studying the local wildlife. Never looking inwards, because... well... who has the time?! XD
Guess what motherfuckers! I've got nothing but time! And I think it's a big part of being a poet, artist, musician - I'm stalling up on my elaboration here, I'm struggling to find a way to articulate it properly. I got Devin Townsend's book, I never knew he wrote one, it was free! I read the first chapter and it was illuminating and also very frustrating at some parts, as to be expected in a book about creativity and building a career in that field, and working with your inspiration and all that. I was going to add a part about... intention with art. I don't want to generalize that a big part of being a poet, artist or musician for everyone is about introspection and pure honesty. Maybe others have other goals, and they can absolutely be successful. I guess I'm just speaking from my own experience, my own goals and maybe others who are similar to me.
See, I have always wanted to be the guy who paints his dreams. The guy who gives really good advice and genuinely gets to know you at a deep enough level to do so. Who writes stream-of-consciousness poetry, and lyrics. It's not all of who I am, but it's a big enough and unique enough part that I feel it's a very dominant part of my personal story. Of the identity I have cultivated, and some of my strongest assets. It's when I feel the most accomplished. I go back and read my dream journals from years ago and I chuckle and start analyzing. I can picture a lot of them, in my mind's eye. I've always wanted to develop the skill to translate that well to paper. Maybe I need to make more general career goals (at least art/drawing-wise) and maybe that should be one of them.
I think at some point before I sidebarred like 3 times... I was talking about how understanding the human psyche works is my work. Exploring. Exploring my psyche, exploring the woods, exploring new art/craft mediums, exploring a new game or digital world. It's where I feel most alive! It's why I leaned towards streaming/YouTube. I don't know any other career where I would be able to switch mediums whenever my inner muse decides. "Hey, today we're gonna do some research on the origins of Gobekli Tepe, then later we're gonna watch the new A Happy Medium skate movie, then we're gonna play Rimworld and check in with our lone wanderer for a few hours, then maybe we'll cool down late night with some tarot readings and chatting while listening to chill music and drawing?" Now THAT is my kind of stream. That is what I'm gunning towards right now. I just need to cultivate this confidence shit.
So here's the big one that got reopened last night. I was thinking it while brushing teeth, so you know it's gonna sneak its way in here. I feel like a spoiled brat. And I get treated like one. I don't want my mom singled out here, internally or expressively, I have been treated this way by several people in succession following my pledge to fully intertwine art and content creation. I got a few people just looking at me like "get a real job", "you wouldn't be able to do this if you had kids", "you wouldn't be able to do this if it weren't for your parents". That kind of shit. As though the implication there is that I should quit and give up after 15 years of working through massive insecurity and self-esteem issues enough to get a solid body of diverse work under my belt. I should just... not do YouTube or stream... because someone else had kids. And is... jealous? Envious? I know there's a difference between those two, but I don't know what the difference is. Is that really as simple as that is? That those people, who used to be friends, were so jealous that I had the confidence (they could find the resources, I guarantee it, I would have helped them) to pursue my passion and specialty full-time, that they would outright refuse to support it... and whisper in my ear regularly that my life and talents would be better put into... what? Working at a graphic design company? I mean, they rarely answered that specifically when I tried to figure out what they are seeing that I'm not. Maybe those are just reflexes I talk to in those cases, I don't know...
But I have "Stockholm Syndrome" written on my big whiteboard in the other room for a good reason. When I get saturated in the concept that I am spoiled, picky, "beggars can't be choosers", that kind of thing? I start to believe it. Because my inner critic, my anti-confidence, my insecurity, my inner self-judgement. He loves that narrative. He thinks it fits to the T. When he gets fed that narrative and starts parroting it, and he becomes the dominant voice dictating self-image? That's when bad shit happens. That's when I stop streaming. That's when I give up on books and screenplays and scripts and game concepts and stories and painting ideas. All of it. Because I should be doing labor instead. I should not be drawing, or playing games, or watching videos, or playing music, or any of these childish things. I should be working.
I'm glad to have overcome that demon tonight. It was not something I did alone, in fact the bulk of the work was not done by me. I hope it can last, because the tug of war around all these tattered relationships, going from close to old friends... all the way to bitter enemies... overnight... it's just too much for me to handle right now, especially when I don't have a social life outside of it.
I want to embrace the light of today. Not linger on the scars. I have a history of overlooking recurring problems and forgiving things way too easily, it's my Achilles' Heel. But I think it's the right call today.
I hope this next month can be like old times, but brought up to modern speed. I miss jamming out with my brother. I miss texting people. I miss sharing my poetry and sitting on my porch and introducing people to the ducks. There's only one left now, I don't know if they migrated or something, but there's a muskrat too I think, looks like one at least, it's definitely not a beaver. I miss just... sharing my life with people. And this life's days are numbered. And I try to reconnect with family to take advantage of these limited days. But... the world is too hectic for them to find ways to make it work. Even living just 5 minutes away. But at least my mom is going to help me sort my stuff, we got back on the same page with that, and she actually seems excited to be involved. She actually seems to see it as the compliment and act of intimate trust that it is.
It's an amazing feeling to be seen, and understood. I cherish it.
Sun's here, time for sleep.

random rhythm heaven facts i know off the top of my head for some reason
uh i’m bored so. have random rhythm heaven facts that i just. know. for some reason.
despite being the only game in the series to not have any lyrical remixes, ds is tied with fever for the most original lyrical songs, with each having five. ds has thrilling! is this love?, love ooh ooh paradise, young love rock n’ roll, struck by the rain, and that’s paradise; fever has tonight, lonely storm, dreams of our generation, i love you my one and only, and beautiful one day.
i emphasize “original” because without that, megamix beats fever and ds, having around eleven lyrical songs in total; only counting original lyrical songs, megamix has three (tokimeki no story/lush remix’s music, i’m a lady now/honeybee remix’s music, and um. whatever machine remix’s song is. in the english version though it only has one original lyrical song).
tengoku has four lyrical songs: karate man’s song (which like. idk if it even has a name- does it get name privileges-), the bon odori, honey sweet angel of love, and wish - can’t wait for you.
the fastest song is in ds; big rock finish c’s bpm is 290. the second fastest is also a ds game, namely remix 4, with,,, i believe 222 bpm?
the slowest game is built to scale and built to scale 2; at their slowest, their bpm is 60.
while endless games’ bpm is all over the place due to speeding up, clap trap literally has no (or at least no known) bpm. somehow.
no i don’t know anything about music.
i do, though, know remix 10′s bpm off the top of my head. it’s 166 in case you were curious. remix 10 ds’ bpm is 160. remix 6,,, it’s 138.7 or something like that? idk the exact decimal number. left-hand remix’s bpm is 120 i think. i have no idea on right-hand remix’s. and final remix starts at 160 bpm, increases to 170 at the end, and finally, ends at 180 bpm.
i have memorized the controls for literally every game. no i will not list them here because that’d take too long.
lockstep is the only ds keep-the-beat game to not have flick controls.
barelys (early/late inputs that are too early/late to count as hits) usually count as misses, but there’s a few exceptions to this:
some games will have barelys allow you to pass the practice, but then not actually count in the game itself. the main offender of this is flipper-flop. flipper-flop’s barelys make it so hard to perfect dear god-
in ds, three games’ perfect campaigns count barelys as hits, those being shoot-’em-up, frog hop, and lockstep. despite this, they still count as misses when playing normally, meaning you can get a perfect that wouldn’t be a superb. that always happens to me when i play lockstep 2.
most games have clear indicators for when you got a barely, though some are relatively similar to a miss, but some games have literally no indicator of barelys. unsurprisingly, all but one are in ds:
the games in question are glee club (sometimes; i’m guessing it’s when it’s still a barely but it’s right on the line between barely and early/late hit) moai doo-wop, love lizards, space soccer, and, in fever, shrimp shuffle. this means that a perfect campaign can end despite everything seeming completely fine. (sometimes you can tell you got it wrong, but it can be difficult, personally the only one i can tell in is shrimp shuffle and also space soccer sometimes).
barelys always count as misses in megamix. due to this, barelys mess up perfects on shoot-’em-up, frog hop, and lockstep. yet for some reason, barelys still let you pass flipper-flop’s practice. i have no idea why since in literally every other instance they’re a fail, but they do.
there’s like three beats for keep-the-beat games (games where you have to press a/tap/whatever every beat). this is easily seen in megamix’s final remix, where there’s a part where it smoothly transitions between flock step, frog hop, and bunny hop, and then cues you into marching orders (which is likely just due to the bunny hop part ending with a long jump).
the main beat is shared between almost every keep-the-beat game. all the undeniable keep-the-beat games use it.
rhythm rally and air rally,,, i think both have the same beat? i don’t know though. i don’t know if either of them can even count as keep-the-beat games tbh.
donk-donk and shrimp shuffle both have unique beats, which i guess brings it up to four different beats.
yet again, no, i do not know what any of this means.
there’s eight karate man games (both of tengoku’s, both of ds’, both of fever’s, and both of megamix’s original karate man games). a karate man game has appeared in literally every game and i don’t know why.
fan club’s bpm is like 132 or something like that? i mean that’s at least what rhythm heaven remix editor says the “ooh”’s bpm is at i think. it might be 162. i really don’t remember.
i’ve memorized the entirety of remix 10, remix 10 ds, and remix 6. so that’s a thing. though sometimes remix 6 messes me up when i’m just trying to remember it without playing. i can’t memorize megamix’s medley remixes for the life of me.
i’ve also memorized remix 8 because of course i have, who’s surprised at this point?
quiz show is a game that exists. it’s interesting in that you don’t have to follow rhythm at all. it’s a repeat-after-me game, but all that matters is that you press the button(s) the same amount of times.
it also ends if you get a question wrong, and unless it was the last one, that gives you an immediate try again. it’s one of three games to end prematurely, the other two being the night walk games (night walk 2 can also end prematurely).
it only has music playing at the beginning for some reason.
did i mention it got into megamix instead of an actually good game? instead of an actual rhythm game? in rhythm heaven?
megamix’s english dubbing sucks.
they seemingly had a low budget, so i will cut them some slack, but that doesn’t stop the fact that it’s terrible.
the title cards for games use the same few fonts, while in previous games they nearly all had original fonts.
none of the original songs got dubbed. instead they’re just instrumental. and dear god do i hate it. thus, with english audio, the only remix song is i’m a lady now, which is in english in all versions.
space dance and marching orders. just,,, space dance and marching orders. dear god.
luckily, and possibly due to the dubbing, megamix has the option to change between english and japanese audio. i have no idea if that’s only in the english version or if it’s in other languages’ translations, but it’s nice either way.
ds just straight-up lies to you. at the beginning of the game, it says it’s completely controlled with the touch screen, but then in the game right before remix 10, the r-button is used.
due to this rockers 2 sucks on emulator.
ds has too many repeat-after-me games, i can think of five off the top of my head. ds’ repeat-after-me games also aren’t even that good? moai doo-wop sucks, shoot-’em-up and love lab are fine i guess, i like freeze frame, and drummer duel’s pretty fun (though i’m pretty sure it’s just spam? is this spam heaven now? where did the rhythm go?).
this probably doesn’t make sense to like ninety percent of you. 😔

We always look forward to your thoughts about each and every Nakata album release, and we know that we've seen the partiality of them about PLASMA (album) here. I guess you may take the floor and share to us your overall or detailed thoughts about the album. Either way is fine. :)
I don't generally enjoy talking about Perfume releases because their audience is touchy (there was some minor attempted drama last month because of my commentary on Spinning World? or something? lmao idek anymore) but since you asked and since I apparently love attention... 🥴
The singles for this era were very heavily J-pop, moreso than they've done in the past, and having not read any press for any of those releases I don't know their explanation for the shift in style (if they provided one). It's a strong appeal towards mainstream tastes; on PLASMA they're safer than they've ever been as a pop group and they were already very safe to begin with. These singles naturally led to a very poppy album with no big dance track moment and also little new content to pick from: most of the Polygon Wave EP being dropped unceremoniously onto this is a bit of a slight. Granted it provides much-needed balance against things like Saisei and Sayonara Plastic World, but that just gives the impression that there could've been a Polygon Wave LP (full-length album) that got cut down into an EP -- they did say in late 2020-ish Nakata made all the songs that eventually were the EP + meager new offerings on PLASMA. I'm splitting hairs about this basically because I would prefer an album made from scratch (this will never happen with them tho) but I also think their fans would rather hear fresher material with an album. And also in this industry you don't, like, release a mini-album and then put those songs on an album later lmao...
Bear in mind I'm not saying they had no J-pop in their sound at all -- the core of this group is a balance between elements that are palatable to a non-electronic-music-listening audience and elements that are not. I just think they've swung harder in one particular direction this time than they have before. Nobody really discussed the fact that Polygon Wave was presented with an entire chunk missing as its de facto, public-facing incarnation; what a huge contrast from Polyrhythm which has an almost completely forgotten "extra short edit" and a fun #inspirational story about how Nakata went to Tokuma HQ and lobbied for them to not excise his CD-skip-esque polyloop bridge… It's just weird for me lol.
But yeah anyway, the track order here is more up-and-down that their usual as a consequence of the contrast. PLASMA (intro) is somber and ~mysterious~ and sets the stage for… Time Warp? Lmao this is why it's not really worth talking about J-pop albums in a serious context, they're just not planned and created as standalone works 90% of the time, they're always functionally singles compilations with bonus material and serve as a basis for a live tour… He knows this and he's talked about it plenty and I think he tried here to tie things together and even it out, but he can't just leave off A-sides like Saisei, Flow, and Time Warp that completely break the mood (and genre). What I'm left asking myself is if this was always such a glaring issue in their albums or if it's more pronounced here because they serve me stock-standard idol-y Saisei and then go back to their normal selves in the following track. Like I love GAME to death but does it hold up as an album? Or was it just the new songs that made it so incredible?
(Someone's going to say "well this just shows they can do a diverse range of styles," like yea I guess, but they did it before in a way that wasn't so…glaring. Like Nakata could've just sold Time Warp, Saisei, and Plastic World to any run-of-the-mill J-pop act. I think the only other song in their discography that's similar is Puppy love, and that was cute and fine as a feel-good album cap, but…)
At this point I probably sound like I hate PLASMA and I don't, it's just not an album to me. It feels as if nothing was released at all: the intro is two minutes of unremarkable ambience, Time Warp has barely audible modifications, Mawaru Kagami appears here in an inferior (though more album-oriented) form. Drive'n The Rain is clearly the only standout album-specific track, but that's…one song. I disqualified Spinning for being pre-release but I could be nice and say it and Drive'n are good. (I don't want to talk about Hatenabito. It isn't worth the words and it shouldn't have been released. Lol.)
However I am entertained by stuff like Spinning World and Drive'n for the self-indulgence of it all production-wise. (I'd praise Saisei for the same but no amount of sleek music producing can counteract the sheer corniness.) They're also different and mature in a way that feels "right" for them. But it'd be nice if they could someday overcome their lifelong intimidation and actually work with Nakata on their music or, better yet, do what should've been done many years ago and threaten their company to allow them to work with other music producers… I don't understand why they're permitted concert-only pieces by other people but can't canonize this music in release format. I actually really enjoyed this performance at their little tech demo showcase with music done by Kurotaki Setsuya. I don't think they're gaining much from having that "exclusively produced by Nakata Yasutaka" aspect in their marketing. And there are only so many things one person can draw with the materials provided, though he's done well with a sort of return to form with Polygon Wave.
But uh, I suppose it's fairly cohesive despite the whiplash track order. Future Pop was pretty cohesive too though, and we all know how their fanbase largely thinks of that album... For people who really get into saccharine J-pop melodies but also enjoy the quirky robo-chic that is (was?) this group's bread & butter this is probably a great album. I don't know! The poll results were pretty funny because the cornball bloc of songs ranked the worst, but I'm also aware that there are about ~5 people who still regularly check this blog and their preferences in his music may align with mine and skew the results. Elsewhere I've seen overall praise for it. I guess I generally agree that it's a step in a better direction for them; I am still left craving dance music and the small challenging components of Perfume that made them so fresh and interesting 10-15 years ago.

Hobbies that JJK characters tried and gave up on
Gojo: Doing voiceovers for commercials
To everyone’s disdain his voice was featured in a viral ad campaign for a popular instant ramen brand. These ads were everywhere on every platform and inescapable. It’s something he would like to do again.
Megumi: Mobile games
Megumi used to be a serious idle game player. He liked the strategy involved, learning the meta, the art, the routine it provided, and most importantly the fact that it didn’t take up too much of his time. However, after countless battles and much suffering in his real life, he started to resent the part of himself that liked these silly, childish things. He deleted them all from his phone a while ago.
Nobara: Classical Music Appreciation
In an effort to become a more refined and well rounded young lady, she decided to learn about the fathers of music. She learned all the Italian jargon; she bought CDs of Bach, Mozart, and Tchaikovsky; and she watched as many operas on YouTube as she could stand in an attempt to get excited about classical music. What she later came to terms with was that she found the genre utterly and irredeemably boring. She will never admit to this.
Yuji: Breakdancing
He never really had the time to go to conventional classes, but he used to stay up late to learn dances he saw online. There was a time when he thought he wanted to be a professional backup dancer, and was looking to join a crew before the whole Sukuna thing. He hasn’t had much time for the hobby since he enrolled in Jujutsu Tech.
Nanami: Drumming
Nanami had an emo phase in 2005 and not a soul on earth can convince me otherwise. He started learning drums in his sophomore year as a way to channel his anger and grief. There was a short period of time where he joined a band, but it was so rife with drama and bullshit that he vowed never to play in a group again. He was an early adopter of polyrhythms, and now he’s more of a jazz guy.
Maki: Woodworking
This started when the handle of her practice weapon broke. She had always toyed with the idea of making her own cursed tools, and figured that this would be a good first step. It was monotonous and time consuming, but she was prepared to power through and learn to love it. That was until she received a strongly worded voicemail from her mother telling her how embarrassing it was to have a daughter with such a masculine hobby.
Inumaki: Interior Design
Feng Shui and IKEA catalogues have always served as major inspirations for Inumaki. He loves peaceful, serene places where people can just relax in each other’s company. He hasn’t given up on this hobby per se, but already has his dream home completely planned out on Pinterest. He’s currently saving up money to buy insanely expensive designer furniture.
Panda: En Plein Air Watercolor Painting
The idea to paint never occurred to him until he saw a video about an Elephant’s painting being sold for tens of thousands of dollars. He was never very good at it, but it became a fun way to cool down after training. Because of this, most of his paintings are vignettes of the Jujutsu Tech Campus at sunset. He doesn’t really remember why he stopped. Principal Yaga still has a few of his works hanging in his office.
Yuta: Instagram
Yuta’s instagram is an account with a modest following. He doesn’t have any pictures of himself or the people he knows, just photos of foods, landscapes, and fun knick knacks he’s encountered during his travels. Initially it was a fun way for him to keep in touch with his classmates, but once his follower count reached 300 he got nervous and deleted the account.
Principal Yaga: Styling wigs for Drag Queens
Back in the day when he was younger, Yaga was involved in the underground drag scene. He started small, helping his friend curl and color their wigs, but it soon grew into a small business. He began taking commissions, and his wigs became more abstract, sculptural, and eye-catching as he got better at his craft. That playful style carried over to some of his earlier cursed corpse designs.
Shoko: Screenplay Writing
Shoko occasionally works as a forensic consultant on a few crime dramas. A producer encouraged her to write something based on her experiences, so she decided to give it a shot. The resulting screenplay had an excruciatingly convoluted plot and godawful dialogue, but Shoko found that she really enjoyed writing a story that confused and frustrated people. The producer gave her some constructive feedback, and she’s planning on starting her second draft soon.
Geto: Electronic Music Production
He saw The Matrix exactly one time in 2003 and has been looking for the same high ever since. Suguru started sneaking into raves, chatting with DJs, and buying as much production equipment and baggy pants that he could get his hands on. He liked the constant, almost meditative rhythm, and found that it helped him forget about the disgusting aftertaste in his mouth. But, after a certain event, he decided to cope uh differently.
Todo: Golf
Todo watched an episode of Takada’s show where she calls golf her favorite sport, so naturally he decided to master it. Todo is an absolute monster at golf - someone who could go pro tomorrow. However, he finds his local golf club insufferable. A stuffy group with no passion and no taste that are content to gamble on their own mediocrity. Disgraceful.
Mai: Cooking
Mai doesn’t care what food tastes like. She only learned how to cook because it’s what her family and future in-laws expect from her. When they ask her to help in the kitchen, she underseasons and overcooks the food so they won’t ask her to do it again.
