Milgram stood in awe of the preserved, pristine steel interior. This chamber, once the ancient throne chamber of Sharanohiar, Soreil's Sharl haven, should have long rusted away after the ship's abandonment. And yet here it was, untouched as the day Lady Kanoyeel ordered it untouched. Not like he was there for any of it, but it was still a significant part of history, simply... erased. Or rather, forgotten. Left to lie, in favor of a brighter future.

Behind him, two Genom-Sharls, a set of tiger-like twins, stood at the ready. "You would be forgiven for believing so. This is one of the government's closest secrets." "But as it is the closest anyone in this day and age may get to the Surge Concerto Terminal, we saw fit to grant you access for this great endeavor. To reconnect with Ar Ciel is master Cosal's greatest wish."

The blue dragon gripped his ritual robes and took a deep breath as he walked out to the center of the room, scaled feet clacking against the cold floor with each step. A turn to the two envoys, and he was given a nod of acknowledgement.

Covered in red scales and eyes narrowed into draconic scales, Yuuki stood in the middle of the base of the Tower of Harvestasha. With help from the Tower herself, it was made into an amplifying field pouring all its strength into the aberrant - or rather, refined - Reyvaroid. Across from him was a legion of researchers devoting their all to his well-being and the execution of this song, its head researcher looking over his physical transformation with a discerning eye.

He looked back with a resolute, yet uncertain, gaze. Sure, they managed to open a way to Twisted Wonderland with much less than this, but that was only because Mickey and PHANTASIA itself was willing it so. This was an operation between two points in space-time directly in EXA_PICO's domain.

"No, but we don't exactly have the famed Sakia Lumei or - Wills forbid - the Briar Maiden herself, so I gotta take care of it."

Yuuki's passive chuckle was met with the encouraging uproar of everyone else, the head researcher in particular laughing with all aplomb. "Ace points for honesty, kid! Don't worry, we'll handle all the small details, so just do what feels natural. We're all green, YUUKI_TEIWAZ_AOTO_HARVESTASHA. Was paks ra reen yor hymmnos!"

A nod. Searching deep in himself, he began singing a most ancient prayer to sacred Singing Hill.

even now, twisted wonderland felt like a fever dream. a nice fever dream, but too far away compared to yuuki's apartment in sol cluster. but there were a few things that kept it in his mind:

for one, he could still perform twisted wonderland magic. no hymmnos, no chaining, just a wave of his pen and he could do magic. being in the range of his home tower also made blot deconstruction a cinch, not to say less of his... personal internal modifications.

speaking of, milgram! ever since yuuki came back, the chain between them was reinforced both by magic and the feelings they shared on those fateful nights. strong enough, as it so happened, to make video calls across literal light years. the concept still boggled his mind, and with how the chain between a reyvaroid and their genom "soulmate" apparently worked, they've slowly began to affect each other more than emotionally. red scales fit him quite nicely, even if it was only a few under his shirt.

so did other things, but let's not talk about it

but most importantly, his chains with everyone back at twisted wonderland. they held up as strongly as milgram's chain despite the extradimensional distance (though probably not to the same degree of intimacy), and he was still doing his part in figuring out how to visit again. video calls were out of the question, but hearing grim fussing over him put a smile on his face anyways.

a flick of the wrist, and he summoned the mickey imagination key. it still shone brightly in the crack of dawn, as pristine as the day he first conjured it from thin air.

You’d think that omegaverse aus would work really well for SVSSS, what with PIDW being a shitty internet porn series with 10,000 variations of sex pollen, but if you really try to rework the whole universe for abo you’ll find that it would actually crumble the very foundations of the series. This is due to the simple fact that the entire plot is spurred by Su Xiyan’s pregnancy, with her giving birth to Binghe alone while Tianlang-jun is imprisoned, but if the series was omegaverse there is no way in all hell that notorious dom sugar daddy masc Su Xiyan wouldn’t be the alpha to submissive and breedable omega Tianlang-jun. ANY other possibility is OOC on a world-breaking level. In this essay I will

Honestly this gets at my chiefest complaint/frustration/discomfort with fandom as a whole. Which is: in their rush to defend the artistic merit of fanworks I think a ton of people have really valorized transformation and remixing and reinterpretation in and of themselves, when imo those are all quite neutral actions. When done well, they can expand and build upon and subvert meaning in really powerful and thought-provoking (and fun!) ways. When done poorly, they are just as likely to flatten and oversimplify and decontextualize and completely erase meaning. The simple act of changing something does not imbue the choice to do so with creative validity. It is entirely possible for a cover song to be bad (or just boring!). To exactly the same degree that it is possible to transform a pretty shallow and straightforward work into something deeper and more nuanced and subversive, is possible to transform a work into a vastly shallower and less interesting shadow of itself. As with nearly everything in art, it's all about the execution!

But the second you voice this position (which should honestly be a pretty uncontroversial one imo), you get people shrieking at you about being gatekeep-y and pretentious and betraying the sacred fandom etiquette of Don't-Like-Don't-Read.

And like...listen. I was not raised in a barn. I am 150% capable of quietly back-buttoning out of a fanfic I think is bad or boring - which is exactly what I do when I encounter them - and I am obviously not advocating for stupid ships wars or any kind of harassment or leaving hatemail in people's AO3 inboxes. (Which some people will also accuse you of the second you say anything less than lavishly positive about fandom, in true piss-on-the-poor fashion.) Literally all I am saying is that you can't have your cake and eat it too - that if fandom and fanworks (in the broadest sense) have artistic merit then fandom and fanworks (in the broadest sense) are fair game for artistic critique. Which means, in practice, that I can go on my own blog and make a post exactly like this one - critiquing broad trends, or stating that some interpretations are bad actually, or pointing out that subverting or talking back to or reading against the grain of canon is very different from simply ignoring it, or saying "fandom's culture of collage/remix/fuck-canon-I-do-what-I-want can lend itself to to really creative and interesting art but also to a lot of really bland homogenized cut-n-paste art, not to mention some pretty troubling decontextualization." And that if you feel this rains on your personal parade, you are then free to DLDR by back-buttoning out of my blog and/or blocking me so you never have to see my hot takes again, rather than clamoring in my notes about how I should let people enjoy things.
