I find it intellectually riveting—nay, anthropologically spellbinding how the phrase “shipping real people is gross” only ever seems to escape the lips of those morally panicked individuals when the ship in question is Larry. Ah yes, the ancient art of selective sanctimony. A tale as old as heteronormativity.

Like, where was this moral grandstanding when the internet descended into collective hysteria over Haylor, a coupling that lasted roughly the same amount of time it takes to microwave a burrito? Or when Elounope was treated like a royal marriage forged by the gods of coordinated pap walks? Not a murmur. Not even the faint rustling of a hypocrite’s conscience.

But the minute someone so much as breathes the word “Larry,” people start clutching their pearls like Victorian debutantes confronted with ankles.

Apparently, concern for the psychological sanctity of celebrities only activates when two men are involved. Fascinating! Positively textbook! Freud is doing the Macarena in his grave.

And let’s be abundantly clear: Larry is not and hasn’t been “just a ship” since like…2012? This is not your average, garden-variety “they’d be cute together” scenario. This is a multi-layered, intertextual, slow-burn epic spanning over a decade, filled with mirrored lyrics, shared wardrobes, matching tattoos, suspicious silences, and the kind of emotionally-charged eye contact that could power a small European village.

We’re not shipping. We’re conducting a longitudinal queer study with PowerPoint presentations, Excel spreadsheets, and footnotes. Our thesis is due. MLA format. Peer-reviewed by Tumblr.

And the most mind boggling part? There is objectively more compelling, tangible, eyebrow-raising evidence that Harry and Louis are together than there ever was for Louis and Eleanor. Whose vibe resembled two wax figures posing for a Sears catalogue titled “Heterosexuality: We Swear.” Meanwhile, H&L were out here singing at each other like star-crossed lovers in a tragic musical sponsored by Modest management and Syco entertainment.

But sure, we’re the ones who need psychological evaluation.

And the absolute audacity of people dissecting one side-eye in a red carpet photo of a straight couple and calling it proof of eternal love, then turning around and calling Larries “delusional” for noticing literal patterns that have spanned an entire decade… it’s giving hypocritical rococo goblin.

If you genuinely believe shipping real people is wrong, then please kindly evacuate from every straight ship tag with the urgency of a possum in a Whole Foods. But don’t masquerade as the Patron Saint of Privacy while gleefully reposting Haylor edits with “All Too Well (10 min version)” playing in the background.

It’s not about ethics. It’s about comfort. And queer love stories—especially the ones they tried to bury under PR and denial—make people uncomfortable.

So no, we’re not “invading privacy.” We’re just exceptionally observant, chronically online, and possibly a little feral. But also? Right.

Animorphs book club book 5:

My friends and I speedran the first 4 books to get to the fifth one and catch up with the book club. We finally finished book 5 today.

Finally we're all caught up and on schedule and so at last we can deliver our thoughts and opinions. The most important one being our PowerPoint essay titled "Why giving a pink glittery cabriolet and a hazelnut cappuccino to Visser 3 would solve everything", in this essay we will-

Anyway. Back to book 5. The ant event was...intense. Intense and brutal. Especially the scene in the bathroom. I find it really cool how it's becoming more and more apparent that the only semi-objective source on the kids' traits and behaviour are each of them themselves. I mean, Marco nor Cassie have a good grasp on Rachel. Nobody but Rachel has a good grasp on Rachel. Neither Jake nor Cassie understand Marco. Only Marco understands Marco. So on and so forth.

The books try to hammer down the fact that the kids are one way, but that the perceptions of them are that way and then another way and then yet another way. Even more interestingly, the books (so far) make it so the perceptions of others don't shape each of the kids but go against their "true nature". I mean, sure, Marco does say that he makes jokes so often partly because someone has to lighten the mood, but he sees it as something that doesn't become a part of him but as a...performance? Obviously it is also his coping mechanism, but he plays it up (very deliberately). That's interesting, because to me, so far, it seems that where other stories would assert that you are nothing but others' perceptions of you and that there really isn't a real or important line between your perception of yourself and others' perception of you, Animorphs draws that line and the perceptions are something that's unreliable and decidedly "not you". If that makes sense.

I actually had another thought about the ants but ngl now I think it's stupid so whatever.

TPOT 13 thoughts (spoilers of course)

This was a very well-done one!

It starts with Firey and Leafy. I mean I love Leafy to pieces and I CAN get into Fireafy but it's feeling overexposed lately with BFDIA 13 and now in a season they aren't even in. I want to see more of Leafy without Firey. Speaking of which One takes her and leaves us hanging. It seems like when there are Fireafy interactions it is Leafy that falls behind. In fact I'd say Leafy is better off with One than Firey! I do like the 5b music (Evil Leafy?)

What's up with the Robot Flower figure? Hey they're using a Stapy for posters :) This windstorm is worse than BFDI 5. I like the Two-shaped key. I forgot how much I disliked Four's voice. Stapy saying aww seriously was darling. X is nice. I voted for Liy so it's nice to see her join but I would prefer a BraceLiy debut to PENCIL who is in BFDIA!

Two is so unserious for having them pick teams based on names instead of membership. Ouch for Pencil! Liy was right to choose BAGGED over people she doesn't like! Golf Ball's concern for fairness always gets me. Two crying over feeling rejected... poor them.

TV using BFDI 15 Announcer saying Hello as his greeting made me wistful. Pencil being dependent and Pillow ripping Donut? So messy. TB saying "missing three" made me think Three would walk in. Pillow being safe is good because I VTS'd her. Liy got the Two-shaped key!!! Ouch for Barf Bag :( I hope she gets more BFDIA face time.

Basketball being safe is good because I VTS'd her. I would rather Donut be barfed on to be remembered. I love how TV celebrates being safe; he is moving way up in the rankings with these clips. ROBOTY??? Two in Bottle is adorable, and I prefer Bottle being safe to Needle because Needle is in BFDIA. But I liked Peneedle!

NOT THE FISH MONSTER!!! And Four and X just fluffing off to some beach (with 9shades) sent me. Oh there's the Seinfeld bassline as heard in 5c. I want to see how One plays with Needle and Barf Bag! I like the different angles of Liy being seen. THE GOIKY DRAGONS??? AND DIFFERENT TYPES OF FISH MONSTER?

The challenge is to stop One's creatures. Why is TWO on the THIRD floor? Two snoring in 2's instead of Z's is so cute. And a sleeping pillow aww. Pencil is so unhinged here and she wants to start a cross-team alliance! GB and Donut being destabilized without Barfy is interesting.

I love that TB speaks for TV's powerpoint slides. Pen and bottle eating popcorn aww. AND THE DAVID WILL BE DEAD! I kind of like Snowball using Icy to freeze the monsters out. And Booktaggy fighting them looks really cool. I think RF has a point killing those bugs, and her messing with her teammates is darling.

Eraser turning the fish monsters against each other reminds me of something but I can't remember it. YF going Scribblenauts for CloudYAY and I love it. LIY WITH THE TWO KEY!!! I thought that shot of the inanimate bottle would lead to something like II2 but no, Bottle just did something only a Bottle can do!! Yay for object specific tasks!

We get to see some recommenbies. GB calls Donut a first boot and I kind of like the theme of him never living it down. It was a SETUP! The other two were CoinPin! INCOME TAX RETURN DOCUMENT MENTIONED!!! I love TV getting wheels to distract David.

Finally the two robots interact! Liy using her previous pact membership to curry favor is so iconic. Pixel TB <3 PILLOW WITH THE FLAMETHROWER!!! Even dragons can do the dodging pattern lol. I chose to interpret the "private moment" line as Book thinking Gaty and RF were kissing.

RF stabbing Gaty with Pin was awesome! And the view from her cracked screen was one of those moments. She uses her petals as fan blades! The bacon and egg face was adorable and so is marker eating foam. RF DREW HERSELF A HAPPY FACE??? AND SHE MOVES INSTANTANEOUSLY LIKE EL??? She just killed battery D: Fanny taking down RF...

ONE IS SO UNHINGED XD and Book with the little gamecube was great. TAGGY PEW PEW! Basketball signs with a footprint lol. Basketbot... aww... Due to my strong beliefs about bodily autonomy I think Basketball changing RF would have been okay if she just used the BFB Flower.

I like how GB now seems to want TB to save her. eepy david :3 Pencil is so spiteful so now Taggy and Book are at risk of leaving despite their awesomeness. I liked the shot of the dragon on the David though. Fanny grinding up bugs in her fan and Basketball being bounced around are more fun object reminders. And the recovery centers talking using their screens are always cute!

NOT THE CLUMSY TENNIS BALL!!! BH still rules for stopping the storm instead of winning. And I kind of hate that we didn't get a Leafy appearance with One so we'll have to live with this torment fo a while.

i really want to ask how do you draw sayaka and the others like that?? (the style)

Oh, hello. I think my style is generally too broad and inconsistent for me to give a visual guide on [unless you point out a specific piece that you wish to know how it came about, and if you do feel free to let me know] since a style can cover a lot of things, but the core elements of it are:

1) Using a textured brush, especially pencil-based ones. Or anything that allows you to freely sketch and has more shading opportunities. Then you fill in your works like you’re using a coloured pencil. The trick is to have fun with it.

2) The eyes are a crucial component to the character.

Sayaka’s eyes should have a tired weight to them, or look like a fish-eye. Or anything bleak and dead, because she seems to think she is like that. Madoka’s eyes are wide and round like the tbh creature. Homura can have similar eyes to Sayaka, but I like to give the former swirly patterns in her pupils if she’s feeling particularly devilish that day. Kyoko’s eyes are sharp and cutting. Sometimes I like to mix all of them together and break my own guidelines [Sayaka can look cutting, Kyoko can look tired]. You can draw them however you like since a style is personal, but that’s just the way I draw The Gang [yet to figure out how to draw Mami properly].

3) Have a bunch of different inspiration ideas and source materials. Sometimes style is more than visuals, it’s also feeling. Drawings are typically based on “sentiment” anyways. Have a Pinterest board if you want a more organised collection that you can tangibly revisit from time to time.

My main inspirations for the style are the titular Gekidan Inu Curry, but I also generally like looking at the illustrations for children’s story books and artistic posters. I think at one point I was inspired by a PowerPoint presentation of all things. I also like a lot of “childlike” things such as dolls and toys. You can take a lot of different things you like and blend them together to achieve a large variety of results. I have a laundry list worth of muses to learn from.

4) Colour choices and shapes. The oddity of some Madoka Magica scenes is how the colour pops out in nonsensical ways that capture your attention. Of course, mixed media has a hand in it, but it rarely sticks to one consistent colour palette. There’s black and red, green and pink. I like using blue, green and red for Sayaka, purple, black and white for Homura…It’s also important to play around with the shapes and patterns you can present in the overall composition. You can always go for a less chaotic and harmonic piece with balanced colours, but I like to push contrast to the limit and flash bang every user who has the misfortune of scrolling through my gallery.

That’s really about it for “style” I think…I’m aware it’s not exactly the clearest explanation a person can give…if it’s too vague for a post, maybe I’ll make an actual visual guide if others also want it…u_u

oh! but of course you can ask, it’s okay!

i cut out pngs of the pattern i had created beforehand and duplicated it twice. that much is obvious i think

then i plugged them into keynote (which is apple’s lame imitation of powerpoint) and animated them to move in separate directions!

after that, i recorded my screen when playing the frame and cropped it, thus making a video of the animation.

now the last part is embarrassing because in order to make an animated header you need to use a gif? and the only thing that came to mind where to convert videos into gifs was?? viber?? the chatting app?? if you look really closely there’s a tiny watermark in one of the corners which sucks but it already took me so long to make i didn’t have the nerves to look for any other alternatives

so yeah! tldr i animated it in a presentation app, recorded the screen and converted that into a gif

You may be loud, but gods if Karlach doesn’t give you a run for money in terms of energy. All that time with no way to physically express how she’s feeling about people she’s made up for it vocally and through body language. She absolutely peppers kisses along the tattoos that she can touch, tracing fingers and making patterns alongside them like she’s imagining even more art decorating your skin beneath her touch. Mutters about how breathtaking you are the whole time, eyes almost glowing as she takes in every curve and edge of your tattoos as though she’s trying to memorize every inch of you. Your tattoos are a little window to your soul, and Karlach will let you talk her ear off about them if you’re up for it. Safe to say most of the day will be full of her pointing to a new tattoo and wanting to hear you talk about when you got it and why no matter how small.

Would get oddly worried about your friend group at first, but only because she doesn’t wanna feel like she’s just jumping straight into your friendship circle. They’re your friends and she’d love to be their friends too and get to know them! After all they’re your friends so they must be damn good people. She ends up worrying over nothing though. By the first couple meetings Karlach would be the life of the party and your friends would absolutely love her just as much as you do. She’s the kind of girlfriend that checks in with the council known as the group chat to coordinate surprises for you and double check gift ideas.

Read her your poetry. Sure she can read it herself, but what’s more romantic than hearing your partner read their own works aloud like you wrote it just for them? Will literally curl up with you so close that if her engine wasn’t just bright enough to read what you’re writing you’d have to give her a playful nudge for nearly blocking out the light. She’ll happily read your writing too, though if you’re looking for in depth criticism our girl ain’t gonna give it to you. She loves all of the things that you write and will tell you just that, and no amount of kisses in the world will change her view on that.

Karlach always cheers you on during any kind of board game with the same energy as she takes on everything, which is very very loud and excited. Any game that starts out quiet with her around lasts that way for about two minutes before she breaks in with a none too quiet whisper in your ear asking what your play is and who’s winning. Girl’s got the spirit, though the other players might get thrown off by that rambunctious attitude of hers.

haha, i finished up disco elysium and then had an internal crisis for like 3 days Thinking About It. i sent a very long earnest fan mail to the developers with the same sentiments, but, that was unfortunately after they'd already been quietly fired from the studio (game development is a weird and bizarre industry), so i assume they never saw it, unfortunately. some of the quotes from the game have been rattling around in my head more now, since i got into more activism and stuff since october.

the game genuinely made me more aware of this shared pattern of how people react to imperial control and corrupt regimes, i didn't otherwise think my experience and family history was similar to how people felt in eastern europe - fully different continent and culture, but so much was the same, and i'd never seen that in a video game before.

also there are a lot of really interesting female characters - i think it's neat that they're written as having interiority and all kinds of motivations and nuances, but you also see the way that the main protagonist perceives them in a particular way because he's a man and somewhat biased. like the society in the game is misogynistic, but the writers are clearly aware of that and writing women as fully realized people existing in the society, rather than obliviously writing it like "here are my three Girl characters. Naive Innocent Victim. Perfect Girlboss. Horrible Mean Bitch," and calling it a day

Storyboard and Production Process

In order to have a better idea of the setting and actions that were going to play in the 2 minutes video, I took care of the storyboard. The movements are going to be very simple: the audience is simply going to be lifted up, first by floating in water and subsequently by a magical statue hand. We still need to properly take a look at the actual timing of all the actions, but we know that everything is going to be quite slow. Given the fact that the whole video is going to take place into a single place only, we need to time every little movement carefully so that the viewer doesn't get bored too easily.

I also thought to provide an external view of what is going to happen. However, talking about it with Saint, we figured that it might be better to include at least two "moving statues" on opposing sides of the scene so that the movement can be visible from all the POVs of the dome. This will not impact our workload too much, since we are going to use the same modelled 3D sketch of the statue that one of my groupmates already made in Blender and just readjust it a bit, to make it look like a different character.

These two different designs carved into the stone were made by me to be placed on the underwater walls that are present at the beginning of our sequence. I drew the compositions on Photoshop and merged them with already existing brick and wall textures from the Unreal Engine software. I tried using different wall patterns with the same drawing in order to achieve the best effect possible, but I think we are going to make the final decision once we place the water element on top of it. Just to be clear, the subjects of these drawings were originated by a bit of research with regards to the culture of the ancient Babylon, to keep the theme going throughout the whole video.

For this week, we also prepared a drafty and simple presentation, to show the rest of the class how much we progressed over the last week. I think this was a very nice way to "pressurize" us and to show our updates in front of classmates and professors, even new ones! Actually having to explain what the thought process is behind an idea and what the actual choices were toward a specific strategy can really help the group understand what the following steps might be and what the project is lacking. The constant confrontation made the whole assignment feel more professional and it gave us the motivation to push through the days and surpass our limits as a team.

Even though we made the first draft of presentation all together as a group, I volunteered to take care of the following versions after the first rehearsal. First of all, I love presentations because they allow my creativity to come through with new fonts and artistic styles, secondly, I wanted to take some "weight" off of the 3D guys' shoulders. I knew this was not really a priority, but I knew this little thing was not going to take any time away from my parts of the project and I knew it had to be taken care of. Moreover, I believe that the visual way that a team presents its work can be really important. Especially in a future a maybe more professional situation, the visuals present on the PowerPoint and the way that you express an idea can really make the difference in the perception of the idea and on the final win.
