Ceramic bottle modeled in the form of a standing feline, decorated with resist-painted motif. Gallinazo style (aka Virú culture), NW Peru, Early Intermediate Period, c. 200 BCE - 600 CE. Spotted at the American Museum of Natural History NYC.

PS: this vessel may depict the Peruvian subspecies of Pampas Cat aka Northern Colocolo (Leopardus colocola garleppi). The Andean Mountain Cat (Leopardus jacobita) is also often suggested, but their range is more southern and higher elevation than where the Virú were? Also note the stripier legs on the Colocolo similar to the ceramic:

Happy to report: all sketches for Part 2 are complete! 🫡 🥳

*Phew* 😮‍💨 sketching is my favorite part but it's also like 85-90% of my work time/process, so I'm thankful it's done at last 😩 Now I just gotta finish the lineart (yuck) and coloring (yay) and add all the dialogue and sfx bits (ohno)

I would post another preview here but I've honestly posted all the little panel previews I would dare to for Part 2 (and besides, I wanna save some surprises you guys to see in the finished pages 🤭)

I do hope you guys will like it 👉👈; I admit I'm a little nervous that it's been so long that it's not really going to live up to expectations 😅

Gentle touches on faces, and back against the wall. Both of them outside, away from whatever party was happening. A small blush, and both give a little giggle.

"It's true! And this time it's not the alcohol."

Another childish giggle and a silly kiss on the cheek.

"you can't say I love youuu...what if you regret it in the morning?"

A shake of the head.

"Wait really?"

A quick nod and a shy smile. Then kisses. One after the other as they both smiled. God what was happening? Drunken rambles that's all. It couldn't be anything else.

"wow.. damn. Okay. Cool. Cool!"

Blurred thoughts as the music was muted through the walls. Red and warm faces, pressed against eachother to hold one another up. His hands never staying in one place. Waist, hips, one petting their hair, the other gently holding the small of their back.

"I'm pretty? Nope. You're the pretty one."

Starting to get needy. He could feel it. God. Not right now. Absolutely not. But with them? It felt so right. Mushed up thoughts from the alcohol, unable to process all his thoughts. Another set of little quiet giggles, would he fall asleep before anything happens?? They're not all the others, who wouldn't care that he's tired. Letting him fall asleep, caring for him. Sleeping right by his side.

"mmm...I love you...'m so glad nothing bad happened tonight."

Both of them laying on a bed, maybe his. Maybe a friends bed. Didn't matter. The music didn't stop him from falling asleep instantly when his head hit the pillow. Sleepy stares, and moving his arm over their own torso. How on earth could this man sleep with music practically blasting the walls down?

"Love you, Kyle. I hope you don't regret it in the morning."

Milestone Monday

April 15th is National American Sign Language (ASL) Day, observed annually to celebrate the ASL community and its contributions to inclusivity, and to encourage folks to learn the language. Regarded as a natural language, sign language has likely existed for as long as there has been a need to communicate, however, the emergence of ASL is largely credited to Thomas Gallaudet (1787-1851) founder of the American School for the Deaf. Uniting deaf children from the western hemisphere the American School for the Deaf was fertile soil for language contact, developing ASL from French Sign Language, village sign languages, and home sign systems. Today, more than a half-million people throughout the United States use ASL to communicate as their native language. 

In recognition of the day, we’re sharing another book from our Historical Curriculum Collection the Basic Pre-School Signed English Dictionary published by Gallaudet College Press in 1973. Signed English features drawn signs with written instructions to represent 975 words most frequently used by and with pre-school children. The editors also include sign markers and the American Manual Alphabet to be used in conjunction with the vocabulary, encouraging a language that is adaptable and offers a more complete English model of communication. 

Signed English was edited in part by Harry Bornstein and Karen Saulnier who worked on several signing books for young readers throughout the 70s, 80s, and 90s, and illustrated by Jack Fennell and Ann Silver.
